Thorpedo Anna is a multiple Grade 1-winning American Thoroughbred racehorse. Born on January 28, 2021, this dark bay filly has captured the racing world’s attention with her exceptional talent and determination.
Background and Breeding
Thorpedo Anna was bred by Judy Hicks in Kentucky and is currently co-owned by Nader Alaali, Mark Edwards, Judy Hicks, and Magdalena Racing (Sherri McPeek). She is sired by Fast Anna out of the Uncle Mo mare Sataves, coming from the same mare family that produced Eskendereya.
Interestingly, she was named after a local Louisville swimmer, giving her a unique connection to the community beyond racing. The filly is trained by Kenny McPeek and has been ridden consistently by jockey Brian Hernandez Jr. throughout her career.
Running Style
Thorpedo Anna is characterized as a pacesetter/press the pace type of runner. Her typical racing strategy involves:
- Controlling the pace from or near the front of the field
- Drawing off unchallenged in the stretch when she has clear sailing
- Demonstrating exceptional heart and determination in tight finishes
Her versatility was evident in races like the Personal Ensign Stakes, where jockey Brian Hernandez Jr. kept her in a stalking position in third before making her move. As trainer Kenny McPeek noted, he prefers to keep her out of trouble rather than risk getting her blocked behind horses.
