GATE ISSUES

Computes the difference between the gate call position and the post position for each of the last 5 starts where both values are available, and counts instances where the horse lost 3 or more positions at the break. A horse that consistently falls back from the gate faces a systematic disadvantage: it must cover extra ground, expend more energy to regain position, and often runs into traffic. Gate issues are particularly damaging in sprints where early position is decisive.
