Race Day Overview — Aqueduct Racetrack, April 23, 2026

Thursday's card at Aqueduct Racetrack features eight races spanning both the dirt and turf surfaces, with a mix of maiden events, allowance races, and claiming contests. The headline context for today's program comes off a weekend of significant Kentucky Derby prep activity, with Wood Memorial winner Albus (Post 1, Race 4 of the Wood) and runner-up Right to Party already logging penultimate works at Churchill Downs ahead of the May 2 classic. That energy filters down to the local condition book, as several trainers with Churchill-bound horses have also been active at Aqueduct this week, sharpening their local strings.

Iron Honor's connections confirmed the Gotham winner will bypass the Derby in favor of the Preakness at Laurel Park on May 16, thinning the local three-year-old division slightly and opening doors for the horses contesting today's maiden and allowance conditions. Taj Mahal's Federico Tesio win at Laurel also adds texture to the mid-Atlantic three-year-old landscape heading into Triple Crown season.

Today's card leans heavily on maiden special weight events — Races 3, 4, and 8 are all maiden specials — alongside the two allowance races in Races 5 and 7. Race 2 is a turf optional claiming event at a mile, and Race 6 is a claiming route on dirt. Race 1 opens the card as a maiden claimer at 6.5 furlongs on dirt. The deepest field of the day is Race 8, a sprawling 16-horse maiden special weight field on the turf, which will serve as the primary exotics battleground for serious players.

No official scratches have been confirmed at press time for today's card, though Race 3 lists a TBA rider for Tejanita (7) and Race 8 lists a TBA rider for Big Jackie (15). Those two horses should be watched carefully on the scratch list as post time approaches.

Weather and Track Conditions

April in New York has been running seasonal, with temperatures in the upper 40s to low 50s Fahrenheit through midweek. For Thursday, April 23, conditions at Aqueduct are expected to be partly cloudy with temperatures in the low-to-mid 50s at post time for Race 1 and climbing only marginally through the afternoon. Wind is expected from the southwest at 10 to 15 miles per hour, which is standard for the Big A at this time of year and should not significantly affect early fractions.

The main track has been listed as fast in recent days following a dry stretch across the New York area. Barring any overnight precipitation, the dirt surface should be rated fast for all dirt events. The turf course at Aqueduct has been in solid shape heading into the final weeks of the spring meet, with the course likely coming up firm to good for the three turf races on today's card — Races 2, 3, and 8. Turf conditions are confirmed as available for racing, which is relevant given the 16-horse field assembled for Race 8.

The Aqueduct turf course is the inner turf course, which plays fairly true at a mile and a quarter in circumference. Wind direction could create a slight headwind in the stretch for turf routes depending on the draw, though the impact on a one-mile turf race is generally minimal compared to open dirt routes.

Track Bias and Post Position Analysis

Aqueduct's main track has exhibited a modest speed-favoring bias in recent weeks, with horses able to establish a comfortable front or stalking position in the first three or four runners converting at a solid clip. The rail is not overwhelmingly advantageous on the dirt, but horses with gate speed that can settle comfortably in the first flight without being squeezed against the inner rail have been performing well. Inside post positions carry marginal value in sprint races, but in the route events, mid-post positions from roughly 4 through 7 have shown the best conversion rates, as horses can avoid early traffic and still get a clean run into the first turn.

On the turf, the inner course tends to favor horses that can get a clean passage along the rail in the final turn and have the acceleration to split horses in the stretch. Post positions beyond 8 or 9 in large turf fields have historically been at a disadvantage at Aqueduct simply because of the distance those horses must travel wide in the early going to establish position. In Race 8's 16-horse field, the inside posts — particularly 1 through 5 — carry a real structural advantage, and horses drawn in the double-digits will need perfect trips to overcome their geographical burden. For the turf sprint conditions of Race 5 at 6.5 furlongs, positions 1 through 5 again carry the most value, as the chute start minimizes but does not eliminate post position bias.

Speed has been rewarded consistently in the sprint distances on dirt. In both the 6.5-furlong Race 1 and the 6-furlong Race 7, expect pace to be a dominant factor, as horses that clear the field cleanly by the quarter pole have been difficult to run down at the Big A this spring.

RACE 1 — Post (1:10)/12:10/11:10/10:10 — 1320f | D | M | Md 20000 | BUN | Purse $34,000

Pace Analysis

Six and a half furlongs on dirt for maiden claimers at $20,000 sets up as a typical pace-oriented sprint. The field projects to see an honest early pace, as multiple horses appear capable of pressing the front. Counter Move (6) and Sports Hero (5) both figure to want early position, with Mach Schnell (4) likely to be in the mix as well. If three horses battle into the first turn, the pace could set up for a closer, but at the maiden claiming level, closers at Aqueduct sprints can get stuck behind traffic. Expect a competitive pace scenario that keeps this race competitive into the stretch.

Key Contenders

Counter Move (6) is the morning line favorite at 2-1 and deserves that position. Trained by George Weaver and handled by Manuel Franco, this horse has a powerhouse combination behind it. Weaver is one of the sharpest conditioners in the New York circuit, and Franco continues to lead the Aqueduct jockey standings. At the maiden claiming level, having this combination aboard a horse with tactical speed is a significant edge. Counter Move (6) figures to stalk the early pace from a comfortable stalking position and has the profile to unleash a sustained move through the stretch. Franco's ability to conserve a horse's energy early while still securing position makes this horse a serious threat.

Sports Hero (5), trained by James Ryerson with Christopher Elliott up, is the 4-1 second choice on the morning line. Ryerson has been active at Aqueduct this spring and knows how to place a horse in a maiden claimer where it can win. Sports Hero (5) projects as a presser type and should get a clean run from post 5.

Secondary Choices

Mach Schnell (4), trained by John Terranova II and ridden by Reylu Gutierrez, opens at 5-1 and is a natural second look at the maiden claiming level. Terranova has a solid strike rate with horses entered at this level, and Mach Schnell (4) from the four-hole has a favorable draw for a horse that wants to press or stalk early.

No Filter (2) at 3-1 for Chris Englehart with Jose Lezcano up is worth inclusion. Englehart is a reliable conditioner at mid-level maiden claiming, and Lezcano is a capable veteran who knows how to navigate a sprint. From post 2, No Filter (2) will need to handle early traffic but the inside position could prove advantageous if pace develops wide.

Longshots

Stayfrostymyfriend (1) opens at 6-1 for Gregory Sacco with Edgard Zayas up. Sacco is a veteran New York trainer who rarely runs horses without purpose, and Stayfrostymyfriend (1) from the rail gives Zayas a chance to control position if the pace scrambles to the outside. An honest longshot for exotics.

Bellamy (3) at 6-1 for Linda Rice with Dalila Rivera up. Rice is an astute conditioner but the 6-1 price reflects what is likely a maiden claimer taking a step down in class or attempting to break through. Rivera has ridden competently at Aqueduct this spring.

Asked And Answered (7) at 8-1 for Chad Summers with Luis Rivera Jr. up is the deepest price in the race. From the outside post in a 7-horse field, Asked And Answered (7) will need to either use speed early to get position or find room late. At 8-1 in a maiden claimer, the outside post is a real liability.

Selections

Win: Counter Move (6) Place: No Filter (2) Show: Mach Schnell (4)

Betting strategy: The 2-1 morning line on Counter Move (6) is the correct play to win, with the Weaver-Franco combination at the top of its game. A straight exacta of Counter Move (6) over No Filter (2) is the core wager. For a trifecta, box Counter Move (6), No Filter (2), and Mach Schnell (4) for a modest investment.

RACE 2 — Post (1:38)/12:38/11:38/10:38 — 1320f | t | AO | OClm 45000b | BUN | Purse $79,000

Pace Analysis

One mile on turf at the optional claiming level for older horses with a $45,000 tag creates a class-sorting exercise. The field projects as a deliberate early pace scenario typical of turf routes — horses will string out through the first turn and find position along the rail before the pace picks up on the backstretch. Tough Street (8) and Blossoming Erudite (2) figure as the primary pace setters or early pressers, and whoever gets to the lead on the backstretch will be challenged in the stretch.

Key Contenders

Tough Street (8) is listed at 2-1 on the morning line for trainer Rob Atras with Manuel Franco riding. Despite the outside post in an 8-horse field, Franco is capable of finding a clean path on the turf, and the 2-1 morning line suggests this horse may have earned its way into this optional claimer through strong recent form. Atras is a competent conditioner for this level of optional claiming turf racing.

Blossoming Erudite (2) at 2-1 for Carlos David with Ricardo Santana Jr. aboard is the co-favorite and perhaps the more formidable of the two. Carlos David has been working up a nice streak at Aqueduct, and Santana is one of the most accomplished jockeys in the country. From post 2, Blossoming Erudite (2) gets a favorable draw on the turf, which alone elevates its chances in a race where post position carries weight.

Secondary Choices

Just Add Water (5) at 3-1 for Chad Summers with Edgard Zayas is well-positioned at mid-price. Summers has been active on the card today, suggesting a confident barn, and Zayas from post 5 gets a clean look in a turf mile. Just Add Water (5) profiles as a closer or mid-pack horse that can benefit if the two favorites battle early and tire in the stretch.

Lil' Regard (1) at 4-1 for Brittany Russell with Franco aboard — note that Franco is also listed on Tough Street (8), which merits a check at post time to confirm the correct mount assignment. If Franco is on Lil' Regard (1), the rail position on a turf mile at Aqueduct is a genuine asset.

Soloshot (7) at 4-1 for Amelia Green with Jamie Rodriguez gives Green a legitimate contender at a price worth watching. From post 7, Soloshot (7) will need to navigate turf traffic, but at 4-1, the value is present if this horse has shown any closing ability.

Longshots

Snowy Evening (3) at 10-1 for David Donk with Dylan Davis up should not be dismissed entirely given Donk's feel for turf route conditions at Aqueduct. Davis is riding with authority at this meet, and a pace collapse could set up Snowy Evening (3) for a late run.

Turriga (4) at 12-1 for Kevin Bond with Ruben Silvera represents the longest of the semi-realistic shots. Bond occasionally places a horse at 12-1 that is sharper than its odds suggest, but the price reflects a genuine underdog at this level.

Mischief Lady (6) at 12-1 for Edward Barker with Sahin Civaci is the other deep price. Barker is not a prominent name on the Aqueduct leaderboard, and Mischief Lady (6) from post 6 will need pace help to factor.

Selections

Win: Blossoming Erudite (2) Place: Just Add Water (5) Show: Tough Street (8)

Betting strategy: Verify jockey assignments for Tough Street (8) and Lil' Regard (1) at post time if Franco is listed on both. The recommended play is an exacta of Blossoming Erudite (2) over Just Add Water (5), with a backup exacta of Blossoming Erudite (2) over Tough Street (8). If taking a swipe at an upset, Soloshot (7) at 4-1 in an exacta box with Blossoming Erudite (2) offers some value in a race where the two 2-1 shots could cancel each other out.

RACE 3 — Post (2:11)/1:11/12:11/11:11 — 1760f | T | S | Md Sp Wt | BUM | Purse $80,000

Pace Analysis

A one-mile maiden special weight on turf for fillies is a premium event at Aqueduct, drawing a deep and talented field. The pace in maiden turf routes tends to be honest but not suicidal — horses will find their way into position around the first turn before the tempo picks up. The Chad Brown trio of Marketplaceofideas (1), Mistborn (5), and Pomerance (8) immediately defines this race, as a barn running three in the same race is a statement of depth and confidence. Note that Mistborn (5) and Pomerance (8) share Manuel Franco as listed jockey, which will require clarification at scratches — one of those two may be scratched or the jockey assignment will be redistributed. Also note that Tejanita (7) carries a TBA rider, which warrants monitoring.

Key Contenders

Marketplaceofideas (1) at 2-1 for Chad Brown with Dylan Davis from the rail is the natural betting favorite. Brown's maiden turf fillies are consistently well-prepared, and Davis has been riding at a high level at Aqueduct this spring. The rail on a one-mile turf course is a double-edged sword — perfect if the horse can find cover and avoid trouble, but problematic if the pace bunches. Davis is smart enough to manage the position.

Tejanita (7) at 3-1 for Claude McGaughey III is the second-most intriguing horse in the field despite the TBA rider situation. McGaughey, known as Shug, is a Hall of Fame conditioner whose maiden turf fillies frequently run better than their odds suggest. At 3-1, Tejanita (7) with a competent jockey replacement could easily outperform the market. Monitor the jockey assignment carefully.

Secondary Choices

Dimensionality (2) at 4-1 for John Terranova II with Edgard Zayas. From post 2, Dimensionality (2) gets a clean look in a turf route, and Zayas is one of the sharper riders on the Aqueduct circuit. Terranova places his horses carefully and the 4-1 price could be generous if this filly has worked well.

Deference (3) at 4-1 for Miguel Clement with Jamie Rodriguez. Clement is a deeply respected turf trainer and a 4-1 maiden turf filly from his barn deserves respect. Deference (3) could make a forward move at a price in a race where the Brown horses attract the majority of the wagering action.

Pinch Of Bourbon (4) at 4-1 for Mark Hennig with Jose Lezcano. Hennig has a solid record with turf route maidens and the 4-1 price from post 4 is workable. Lezcano is a veteran with a strong feel for turf pace.

Longshots

Quadrate (6) at 12-1 for Robert Ribaudo with Ricardo Santana Jr. is worth a small exotic inclusion. The double-digit price and Ribaudo's smaller barn make this a genuine longshot, but Santana aboard any horse merits at least nominal attention.

The Brown entryMistborn (5) and Pomerance (8) — if one of those horses scratches, the remaining Brown runner with Franco becomes a more focused threat. Both are listed at 2-1 as part of the barn's overall representation, and the entry factor means their combined pool will be crowded.

Selections

Win: Marketplaceofideas (1) Place: Tejanita (7) Show: Deference (3)

Betting strategy: The Chad Brown three-horse presence makes this a difficult win single. The best value angle is to key Tejanita (7) in exacta part-wheels beneath Marketplaceofideas (1), using the McGaughey filly at 3-1 as the primary value play. A trifecta box of Marketplaceofideas (1), Tejanita (7), and Deference (3) offers a manageable investment with a reasonable payout given the 4-1 prices on the secondary horses.

RACE 4 — Post (2:44)/1:44/12:44/11:44 — 1540f | D | S | Md Sp Wt | BOF | Purse $80,000

Pace Analysis

One mile and a sixteenth on dirt for maiden special weight fillies is a classic route-of-ground test for well-bred, lightly raced horses. The field figures to run at an honest but not burning pace through the opening half mile before the race becomes a test of stamina and class. Saratoga Party (1) from the Chad Brown barn and Pippa Adds (4) from Todd Pletcher draw the most immediate attention. With Brown and Pletcher each holding a prime contender, the pace scenario will depend heavily on how those two horses break and where they settle.

Key Contenders

Saratoga Party (1) at 2-1 for Chad Brown with Manuel Franco from the rail is a premium assignment. Brown's maiden dirt fillies at this purse level carry serious quality, and Franco in the irons from the rail at a mile and sixteenth gives this filly every structural advantage. Brown's win percentage with maidens at this level at Aqueduct is among the best in New York, and Saratoga Party (1) is the clear top selection.

Pippa Adds (4) at 2-1 for Todd Pletcher with Kendrick Carmouche is the equally compelling alternative. Pletcher's maiden fillies at $80,000 purse level are always well-prepared and the 2-1 morning line is entirely justified. Carmouche has ridden with increasing authority at Aqueduct this meet and Pippa Adds (4) from post 4 gets a clean look without rail congestion.

Secondary Choices

Hand Over Heart (5) at 4-1 is the third Brown filly in this race alongside Saratoga Party (1), ridden by Dylan Davis. The Brown barn running two in the same dirt maiden route is a noteworthy angle — one likely serves as a pace-setter or tactical foil for the other. At 4-1, Hand Over Heart (5) represents value if the barn prefers this filly to win outright.

Flying Hawley (6) at 4-1 for Claude McGaughey with Edgard Zayas. McGaughey's fillies in maiden specials on dirt at route distances are perennial contenders, and Flying Hawley (6) from post 6 gets a wide but clean look. Zayas is highly regarded and this horse should not be dismissed.

Longshots

Themis (2) at 8-1 for Arnaud Delacour with Jamie Rodriguez is a price worth noting for exotics. Delacour is a capable conditioner at this level and Themis (2) from post 2 gets a favorable draw. At 8-1, the horse is available to use deeper in exotics.

Prime Connection (3) at 12-1 for Linda Rice with Jose Lezcano is the deepest price among the six horses. Rice has occasional maiden successes but Prime Connection (3) at 12-1 is likely outclassed by the Brown-Pletcher duo. Use only in trifecta or superfecta bottoms.

Selections

Win: Saratoga Party (1) Place: Pippa Adds (4) Show: Flying Hawley (6)

Betting strategy: The dual 2-1 co-favorites from Brown and Pletcher make a win single difficult, but the exacta of Saratoga Party (1) over Pippa Adds (4) and the reverse is the core wager. At equal odds, the exacta pays modestly but the structural advantage of the rail and Franco gives Saratoga Party (1) the edge on top. A trifecta key using either Brown or Pletcher horse on top over Flying Hawley (6) and Themis (2) is the value play.

RACE 5 — Post (3:16)/2:16/1:16/12:16 — 1320f | t | A | Alw 77000n1x | BUN | Purse $77,000

Pace Analysis

Six and a half furlongs on turf for non-winners of one race other than maiden is a speed-defining condition that typically attracts horses stepping forward from maiden wins. The 10-horse field creates traffic concerns from wide posts, and the pace scenario should see multiple horses angle for early position in the chute. Funny Factor (5), Burning Bridges (8), and On The Ledge (1) figure as the pace principals, and the one who can clear without dueling has a significant edge in what can be a grueling turf sprint.

Key Contenders

Funny Factor (5) at 3-1 for James Ryerson with Manuel Franco is the morning line choice and a credible favorite. Ryerson has multiple horses on today's card, reflecting an active barn, and Franco is always dangerous. At 3-1 from post 5 on the turf, Funny Factor (5) gets a mid-field draw that allows Franco to assess early position before committing.

Burning Bridges (8) at 4-1 for Mark Casse with Dylan Davis is a natural alternative. Casse is a powerhouse trainer nationally with strong credentials on turf, and Burning Bridges (8) at 4-1 with a top jockey from a competent post represents genuine value. Casse's first-out-of-maiden allowance horses on turf have a solid conversion rate.

Secondary Choices

On The Ledge (1) at 4-1 for Bruce Brown with Christopher Elliott. From the rail in a turf sprint, On The Ledge (1) either benefits enormously by saving ground or gets squeezed in early traffic. Elliott is capable but the rail in a 10-horse turf sprint is high variance. The 4-1 price could offer value if this horse can clear the rail cleanly.

Cerro Rico (9) at 5-1 for Thomas Morley with Ricardo Santana Jr. is the most intriguing price in the race. Morley has two horses on today's card and Santana aboard any horse at 5-1 is worth strong consideration. Cerro Rico (9) from post 9 will need to navigate wide early but Santana is one of the best in the business at finding room in field sprints.

Liberty Rising (10) at 4-1 for Patrick Quick with Omar Hernandez Moreno is the widest draw in the field and carries the most post-position risk. At 4-1, the price does not adequately compensate for the outside post in a 10-horse turf sprint. Fade in win wagering.

Longshots

Chummers (3) at 6-1 for Raymond Handal with Jorge Vargas Jr. Handal's occasional turf sprinters can improve at this level, and Chummers (3) from post 3 gets a reasonable draw. A 6-1 morning line horse in a turf allowance sprint with a capable rider is worth a small exotic flyer.

Lawyer Mason (4) at 6-1 for Thomas Morley with Jamie Rodriguez is Morley's second entry on the day. At 6-1, Lawyer Mason (4) from post 4 in the same race as Cerro Rico (9) gives Morley tactical versatility in the field. Rodriguez is reliable.

Three Thirteen (7) at 8-1 for Melanie Giddings with Sax Bridgmohan is a deeper price in a race where pace and post position dominate. Bridgmohan is a seasoned professional but 8-1 reflects the difficult task from post 7.

Take A Stance (2) at 20-1 for Michelle Nevin with Kendrick Carmouche. Even with Carmouche up, 20-1 morning line odds reflect a significant class or form question. Use only in large multi-race exotic sequences.

Scaramanga (6) at 30-1 for Lolita Shivmangal with Dalila Rivera is a throwout at this price in an allowance turf sprint.

Selections

Win: Funny Factor (5) Place: Burning Bridges (8) Show: Cerro Rico (9)

Betting strategy: The 3-1 on Funny Factor (5) is competitive but not generous. Key Funny Factor (5) and Burning Bridges (8) in exacta combination. Cerro Rico (9) at 5-1 with Santana is the best value in the race and deserves a role in trifecta plays. A three-horse trifecta box of Funny Factor (5), Burning Bridges (8), and Cerro Rico (9) is the recommended exotic.

RACE 6 — Post (3:48)/2:48/1:48/12:48 — 1760f | D | C | Clm 30000n2l | BUN | Purse $41,000

Pace Analysis

One mile and a sixteenth on dirt at the $30,000 claiming level for horses with no more than one win is a class-constrained route that tends to produce moderate early fractions before developing into a genuine test of stamina. Sequential (5) and Magnanimous Max (6) are co-favorites at 2-1 each and both figure to be near the pace or pressing. If they engage each other early, a closer could emerge, though at the $30,000 claiming level, true closers are rare.

Key Contenders

Sequential (5) at 2-1 for Orlando Noda with Dylan Davis. The Davis-Noda combination gives Sequential (5) capable handling and from post 5 the horse is well-positioned in a seven-horse field. Davis is riding at the top of his game at this Aqueduct meeting and should be able to find a clean trip from mid-field.

Magnanimous Max (6) at 2-1 for Linda Rice with Manuel Franco is the equally compelling co-favorite. Rice is one of the more active and successful trainers at Aqueduct, and Franco from post 6 should be able to find a comfortable stalking position a length or two off the pace.

Secondary Choices

Smallchangegeep (1) at 4-1 for James Ryerson with Jose Lezcano. Ryerson's third runner on the card today, and from the rail at a mile and sixteenth, Smallchangegeep (1) could benefit from a clean break to find the lead or set a comfortable pace. Lezcano is a veteran who can rate a horse effectively in a route.

Salming (3) at 4-1 for Raymond Handal with Jorge Vargas Jr. A 4-1 price from post 3 in a seven-horse claiming field is manageable, and Handal has shown capability at this claiming level on dirt.

Longshots

Superpower (2) at 8-1 for Ilkay Kantarmaci with Jamie Rodriguez. The double-digit morning line reflects a horse that may be stretching from shorter distances or stepping up slightly in class or trip. At 8-1, Superpower (2) is a minor inclusion in trifecta bottoms only.

First Pitch (4) at 10-1 for Jose Jimenez with Edgard Zayas. Even with Zayas aboard, 10-1 in a seven-horse field suggests a significant form question. The post and price combine to make this a distant longshot.

Good Bali (7) at 20-1 for Chetram Bhigroog with Christopher Elliott is a throwout from the outside post at a price that reflects an unlikely winner. Include only in superfecta plays for coverage.

Selections

Win: Magnanimous Max (6) Place: Sequential (5) Show: Smallchangegeep (1)

Betting strategy: The Rice-Franco combination on Magnanimous Max (6) edges Sequential (5) by a narrow margin. An exacta box of Magnanimous Max (6) and Sequential (5) is the primary wager. Smallchangegeep (1) at 4-1 from the rail with Lezcano is the value trifecta component. A key of Magnanimous Max (6) on top in the trifecta with Sequential (5) and Smallchangegeep (1) beneath offers a reasonable return.

RACE 7 — Post (4:21)/3:21/2:21/1:21 — 1320f | D | A | Alw 83000n1x | BUN | Purse $83,000

Pace Analysis

Six furlongs on dirt for non-winners of one allowance race is the premier sprint condition on today's card. At $83,000 in purse money, this race will attract sharp horses that earned their maiden wins convincingly and are now taking the next step. The pace should be honest — Bostontonian (2) and Pair Of Socks (1) both figure to want early position, and with both at the top of the morning line, a pace duel is plausible. If those two horses engage, stalkers and closers are given a legitimate opportunity.

Key Contenders

Bostontonian (2) at 2-1 for Wesley Ward with Dylan Davis. Ward's dirt sprinters are consistently sharp and Bostontonian (2) from post 2 gives Davis the cleanest possible look in a six-furlong sprint. Ward is among the very best sprint trainers in North America, with a stellar win percentage, and at 2-1, Bostontonian (2) is deserving of favorite status.

Pair Of Socks (1) at 3-1 for Linda Rice with Jose Lezcano from the rail. Rice's ability to place horses effectively at the allowance level at Aqueduct is well-established, and Pair Of Socks (1) from post 1 with Lezcano sets up as the primary challenge to the Ward favorite. If Pair Of Socks (1) can clear the field cleanly and set a pace that suits its running style, it could control this race wire to wire.

Secondary Choices

Benji Star (3) at 4-1 for Michael Stidham with Manuel Franco. Stidham is a Midwestern-based trainer with a track record of shipping winners, and Benji Star (3) from post 3 with Franco gives the horse every opportunity. At 4-1, Benji Star (3) is the most interesting price in the race if Stidham ships for a reason.

Oil Capital (4) at 5-1 for Linda Rice with Kendrick Carmouche. Rice's second horse in this race alongside Pair Of Socks (1) gives the barn tactical flexibility and suggests genuine confidence in both runners. Oil Capital (4) at 5-1 with Carmouche offers value as the secondary Rice runner.

Longshots

Antonio Of Venice (5) at 6-1 for Rudy Rodriguez with Ruben Silvera. At 6-1 in a seven-horse allowance sprint, Antonio Of Venice (5) represents a viable exotic inclusion, particularly if the pace from Bostontonian (2) and Pair Of Socks (1) gets hot and sets up a later run.

My Mitole (6) at 6-1 for Carlos Martin with Jamie Rodriguez. Martin has been active at Aqueduct and My Mitole (6) from post 6 is a manageable outside post in a sprint. At 6-1, this horse belongs in trifecta and superfecta exotics.

Private Desire (7) at 10-1 for Thomas Morley with Ricardo Santana Jr. Morley's third horse of the day with Santana up. Even at 10-1, a Santana mount in a sprint deserves a passing glance in deep exotic plays. Private Desire (7) from the outside post is structurally disadvantaged but not impossible.

Selections

Win: Bostontonian (2) Place: Pair Of Socks (1) Show: Benji Star (3)

Betting strategy: Bostontonian (2) is the race's best single. An exacta of Bostontonian (2) over Pair Of Socks (1) with a reverse is the primary play. Benji Star (3) at 4-1 with Franco adds genuine value in a trifecta key of Bostontonian (2) on top, with Pair Of Socks (1) and Benji Star (3) beneath.

RACE 8 — Post (4:53)/3:53/2:53/1:53 — 1320f | t | S | Md Sp Wt | BUM | Purse $75,000

Pace Analysis

Six furlongs on turf for maiden special weight fillies in a 16-horse field is the most complex wagering puzzle on today's card. The enormous field creates a structural post-position lottery — horses drawn outside of post 10 face a genuine uphill battle simply to get position along the rail before the first turn. The pace should develop with multiple horses pressing from the inside posts, while horses drawn wide will burn energy circling the field. Look for the inside posts — Quell (1) through Pismo Beach (5) — to dominate the early position battle. A pace collapse in the stretch is possible if three or four horses battle early.

Key Contenders

Aperitif (8) at 4-1 for Elizabeth Merryman with Christopher Elliott is the morning line top choice and is reasonably well-drawn in post 8. Merryman's turf sprint maiden fillies have shown good preparation for this kind of race, and Elliott is a sharp rider. At 4-1, Aperitif (8) from a workable post in a 16-horse field warrants top billing.

Juliet On Approach (7) at 5-1 for James Bentley Begg with Manuel Franco is the most compelling value in the race. Begg is a trainer with a strong feel for maiden turf sprints, and Franco from post 7 is well-drawn to secure an inside trip. At 5-1, Juliet On Approach (7) is arguably the most attractive win bet in the race.

Saint Margaret (2) at 4-1 for James Ryerson with Dylan Davis from post 2 is ideally drawn on the turf. Davis from the inside in a turf sprint is a major asset, and Ryerson's fourth horse on the card reflects barn confidence. Saint Margaret (2) is a genuine contender.

Secondary Choices

Daylight Dreamer (4) at 6-1 for Jeremiah Englehart with Kendrick Carmouche. From post 4, Daylight Dreamer (4) is in the prime zone for a turf sprint, and Englehart is a solid conditioner. Carmouche adds further confidence. At 6-1, this is a live contender.

Copper Caduceus (10) at 5-1 for Thomas Morley with Ricardo Santana Jr. The outside post 10 in a 16-horse field is a concern, but Santana's ability to find room is exceptional. Morley's fourth horse of the day with Santana suggests genuine confidence from the barn. The post is a real negative but the combination is too good to dismiss entirely.

Emergency Nine (12) at 5-1 for Miguel Clement with Jamie Rodriguez. Post 12 in a 16-horse turf sprint is extremely difficult to overcome, and even Clement's strong turf record and Rodriguez's capable riding cannot fully compensate. Include in exotics but not as a top win selection.

Longshots

Pismo Beach (5) at 8-1 for David Donk with Sahin Civaci. From post 5, Pismo Beach (5) is well-drawn for a turf sprint and Donk's turf runners at Aqueduct deserve respect at 8-1. A genuine upset candidate.

Speed Walking (11) at 8-1 for Kenneth McPeek with Christopher Elliott — note Elliott is also listed on Aperitif (8), so jockey clarification is needed at post time. McPeek ships turf fillies with purpose and Speed Walking (11) from post 11 will need a perfect trip.

No Need To Panic (13) at 8-1 for Michael Miceli with Jose Lezcano from post 13 is a difficult inclusion given the post position. Lezcano can ride but 13 in a 16-horse turf sprint is a structural disadvantage.

Quell (1) at 20-1 for Robert Ribaudo with Dalila Rivera has the ideal post but the 20-1 price reflects limited form or class. The rail is an asset in a sprint — a small exotics play is defensible.

North Starlight (3) at 15-1 for Amelia Green with Reylu Gutierrez from post 3 is well-drawn but lightly regarded. At 15-1, a small spot play in exotics is manageable.

Credit Risk (6) at 12-1 for Lisa Bartkowski with Jamie Rodriguez — note Rodriguez is also listed on Emergency Nine (12), requiring jockey confirmation. At 12-1 from post 6, Credit Risk (6) is in a good post but the barn is not a major Aqueduct presence.

Patience N Grace (9) at 12-1 for Kevin Bond with Luis Rivera Jr. Post 9 in a 16-horse field is mid-range and manageable, but 12-1 reflects limited expectations. Bond occasionally produces a surprise.

Big Jackie (15) at 10-1 for James Ferraro with a TBA rider carries two major negatives — the outside post 15 and an unconfirmed jockey. Monitor at post time. If a top rider picks up the mount and the horse is not scratched, the 10-1 price could become interesting.

Lady Delilah (16) at 8-1 for James Ferraro with Reylu Gutierrez — note Gutierrez is also listed on North Starlight (3), requiring confirmation. Post 16 in a turf sprint is essentially impossible to overcome without a complete pace collapse. Throwout for win purposes.

Tiz Improbable (14) at 30-1 for Marvin Richards with Heman Harkie is the longest price in the field. Post 14 and 30-1 combine to make this horse a bottom-of-the-exotics inclusion only.

Selections

Win: Juliet On Approach (7) Place: Saint Margaret (2) Show: Aperitif (8)

Betting strategy: In a 16-horse maiden turf sprint, exotic structure is the only sensible approach. The recommended play is a win bet on Juliet On Approach (7) at 5-1 as the primary value selection, paired with an exacta box of Juliet On Approach (7), Saint Margaret (2), and Aperitif (8). For a trifecta, key Juliet On Approach (7) on top and use Saint Margaret (2), Aperitif (8), Daylight Dreamer (4), and Pismo Beach (5) beneath in all combinations. The inside posts are structurally superior and should anchor all multi-horse wagers.

Jockey Notes and Insights

Manuel Franco is the featured rider on today's card, appearing in Races 1, 2, 3, 4, 6, 7, and 8. However, his listing on multiple horses within the same race — Mistborn (5) and Pomerance (8) in Race 3, and Tough Street (8) and Lil' Regard (1) in Race 2 — requires immediate clarification at post time. Franco leads or is near the top of the Aqueduct jockey standings and is performing at an elite level this spring. When Franco is listed as the single rider for a horse, his mounts carry a significant real-money edge over the morning line.

Dylan Davis has been outstanding at Aqueduct this spring, riding with tactical precision and exceptional situational awareness. Davis has mounts in Races 2, 3, 4, 6, 7, and 8. His inside draw on Saint Margaret (2) in Race 8 and the Bostontonian (2) assignment in Race 7 from Wesley Ward are two of his most attractive engagements of the day.

Ricardo Santana Jr. is one of the top riders in North America and his mounts aboard Blossoming Erudite (2) in Race 2, Cerro Rico (9) in Race 5, Copper Caduceus (10) in Race 8, and Private Desire (7) in Race 7 deserve elevated attention regardless of odds. Any Santana mount under 8-1 is worth including in the win pool.

Edgard Zayas is a capable veteran who appears in Races 1, 2, 4, 5, and 6. His mounts on Flying Hawley (6) in Race 4 at 4-1 and Dimensionality (2) in Race 3 at 4-1 represent solid value.

Kendrick Carmouche has been riding with confidence at this Aqueduct meeting. His mounts on Pippa Adds (4) in Race 4 for Todd Pletcher and Daylight Dreamer (4) in Race 8 for Jeremiah Englehart are two prime engagements that deserve respect.

Christopher Elliott appears in Races 1, 5, 6, 7, and 8, with a possible conflict between Aperitif (8) and Speed Walking (11) in Race 8. His mount on Burning Bridges (8) in Race 5 for Mark Casse is the most high-profile engagement of his day.

Jose Lezcano is a battle-tested veteran with solid recent form. His mounts on Pair Of Socks (1) in Race 7 and No Filter (2) in Race 1 represent capable opportunities in the sprint races.

Jamie Rodriguez is riding a full book today, appearing in Races 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, and 8, with possible jockey conflicts in Race 8. His engagement on Deference (3) in Race 3 for Miguel Clement is particularly intriguing at 4-1.

Trainer Notes and Insights

Chad Brown has an extraordinary presence on today's card, saddling entries in Races 3 and 4 as well as the Race 4 entry. Brown runs Marketplaceofideas (1) in Race 3 as the favorite, with Mistborn (5) and Pomerance (8) as stable companions in the same turf maiden. In Race 4, Brown has Saratoga Party (1) as the co-favorite alongside Hand Over Heart (5). Brown's win percentage with lightly raced maiden fillies in routes at Aqueduct is among the highest in New York, and any time he runs multiple horses in the same race at the maiden level, it signals deep confidence in the barn's runners.

Todd Pletcher's Pippa Adds (4) in Race 4 at 2-1 deserves full attention. Pletcher's maiden dirt fillies at route distances represent some of the most reliable investments on the New York circuit, and the 2-1 morning line is appropriate.

Wesley Ward's Bostontonian (2) in Race 7 is a standout. Ward's sprint horses are among the best-prepared in North America, and his record with maiden allowance sprinters transitioning to open allowance is exceptional. At 2-1, Bostontonian (2) is the day's most reliable favorite.

Linda Rice has a busy card with horses in Races 1, 3, 4, 6, and 7. Her dual entry in Race 7 with Pair Of Socks (1) and Oil Capital (4) signals confidence, and Magnanimous Max (6) in Race 6 with Franco is among the more attractive mid-card plays.

James Ryerson runs four horses on the card — Sports Hero (5) in Race 1, Funny Factor (5) in Race 5, Smallchangegeep (1) in Race 6, and Saint Margaret (2) in Race 8. An active trainer with multiple mounts on a single card often indicates a barn in good form, and Saint Margaret (2) with Dylan Davis from post 2 in the finale is a particularly well-constructed wager.

Claude McGaughey III has Tejanita (7) in Race 3 and Flying Hawley (6) in Race 4. Both are worth elevated attention given McGaughey's exceptional record with maiden fillies at Aqueduct. The TBA rider situation on Tejanita (7) is a concern that could resolve positively if a top jockey picks up the mount.

Thomas Morley runs three horses — Lawyer Mason (4) and Cerro Rico (9) in Race 5, Private Desire (7) in Race 7, and Copper Caduceus (10) in Race 8. With Santana up on Cerro Rico (9) and Copper Caduceus (10), Morley clearly has confidence in at least two of those horses.

Mark Casse's Burning Bridges (8) in Race 5 is a well-regarded shipper with turf credentials and the 4-1 morning line underscores genuine competitiveness.

Miguel Clement's two horses — Deference (3) in Race 3 and Emergency Nine (12) in Race 8 — reflect one of New York's most respected turf trainers. Deference (3) at 4-1 in Race 3 is the more tractable play given the post position.

Best Wagering Strategies and Value Plays

The best single bet on today's card is Bostontonian (2) in Race 7 at 2-1 for Wesley Ward with Dylan Davis. Ward's sprint credentials and the favorable post position make this the day's most reliable win selection.

The best value play on the card is Juliet On Approach (7) in Race 8 at 5-1 for Begg and Franco, with an ideal post in a 16-horse field and a top jockey who can secure the rail early.

For multi-race wagering, the late Pick 4 covering Races 5 through 8 is the primary sequence. A recommended structure:

Race 5: FUNNY FACTOR (5) and BURNING BRIDGES (8)

Race 6: MAGNANIMOUS MAX (6) and SEQUENTIAL (5)

Race 7: BOSTONTONIAN (2) and PAIR OF SOCKS (1)

Race 8: JULIET ON APPROACH (7), SAINT MARGARET (2), APERITIF (8), and DAYLIGHT DREAMER (4)

This structure produces 2 x 2 x 2 x 4 = 32 combinations. At $0.50 per combination, the total ticket cost is $16. At $1.00 per combination, the cost is $32. Given the potential to include three horses in Race 8 at prices ranging from 4-1 to 5-1, the multi-race ticket could return significant value if any of the longer-priced horses complete the sequence.

For the early Pick 4 covering Races 1 through 4, a suggested ticket:

Race 1: COUNTER MOVE (6) and NO FILTER (2)

Race 2: BLOSSOMING ERUDITE (2) and JUST ADD WATER (5)

Race 3: MARKETPLACEOFIDEAS (1) and TEJANITA (7)

Race 4: SARATOGA PARTY (1) and PIPPA ADDS (4)

This 2 x 2 x 2 x 2 = 16-combination ticket costs $16 at $1.00 or $8 at $0.50, and offers solid coverage across the first four races where the morning line favorites appear vulnerable to value alternatives.

The Race 8 exacta box of Juliet On Approach (7), Saint Margaret (2), and Aperitif (8) — six combinations at $2.00 each for a $12 investment — is the recommended standalone exotic play in the finale. Given the complexity of a 16-horse field and the structural advantage of the inside posts, the box of three well-drawn horses at prices of 4-1 to 5-1 offers a meaningful return with reasonable probability.

Monitor all TBA jockey assignments and potential Franco conflicts in Races 2 and 3 before finalizing any wagers. Jockey assignment changes in those races could meaningfully shift the value calculus.
