Pick Pony Track Condition Report — Lone Star Park, May 15, 2026

Track Surface & Bias

With spring temperatures and generally dry seasonal patterns in Grand Prairie, the main dirt (D) at Lone Star Park most often plays fair to mildly speed-favoring when listed Fast. Inside-to-middle posts (1–6) typically hold a small advantage in two-turn routes, while sprints can see outside pace players in the clear run well if they break sharply. If any moisture lingers in the surface from recent weather, that bias can tilt more toward forwardly placed runners, with deep closers needing an honest or contested pace to get involved late.

For the turf (T), when the course is listed Firm to Good, Lone Star traditionally rewards tactical speed and stalking types who can sit within a few lengths of the lead and make a sustained run turning for home. Rail settings matter here: with the rail out, saving ground and drawing inside becomes more valuable; with the rail at zero, wide, circling trips can be more successful, especially in fuller fields. In general, extreme off-the-pace styles are less reliable on this turf unless there is a clear pace meltdown.

Handicapper’s Edge

Give extra consideration to horses with proven success on or near the lead on the dirt, especially those drawn toward the inside in routes and capable of breaking cleanly in sprints. On the turf, upgrade tactical stalkers with good early position and riders known for securing the rail and timing a single sustained move, while downgrading one-run closers who rely on unusually fast fractions to be effective.
