Pick Pony Track Condition Report — Delaware Park, May 20, 2026

Weather Forecast

Conditions are expected to be seasonably mild with afternoon highs in the low-to-mid 70s°F, a modest chance of scattered showers, and light to moderate winds generally in the 8–15 mph range, most likely with a west to southwest component. Any passing showers should be brief, but keep an eye on late card moisture if cells move directly over the track.

Track Surface & Bias

On a dry or only lightly damp Delaware main track, recent “At a Glance” data for this meet (May 13–16) show sprints at 5.5f tending to favor inside posts and early speed, while 6f dirt races have been a bit fairer to stalkers from middle posts. Routes on the dirt mile have recently offered little advantage to wire types, with pressing and stalking styles typically doing better once the field sorts itself out into the first turn. If showers are light and the surface stays fast to “good,” expect a mild lean to forwardly placed runners in sprints, with posts 2–6 generally ideal, and a more balanced, trip-dependent profile in routes.

Handicapper’s Edge

Given the recent bias, lean slightly toward horses with tactical speed rather than deep closers, especially in 5.5–6f dirt races, and upgrade runners drawn toward the middle inside. In routes, put extra weight on horses that can secure a comfortable stalking trip and have previously finished well at a mile over this surface, as late momentum has been more reliable than trying to take them gate to wire.
