Pick Pony Track Condition Report — Fairmount Park, May 26, 2026
Track Surface & Bias
With a dirt-only card (D) and typical late-spring conditions in the region, expect the main track to play fair-to-mildly speed-favoring, especially in sprint distances. Historically at Fairmount, forwardly placed runners—either clear front-runners or pace-pressing stalkers within a length or two of the lead—tend to hold an advantage on a dry, well-harowed surface, while deep closers generally need a strong early pace to get involved.
Inside posts are usually acceptable to slightly advantageous when the rail is tight and the surface is even, particularly for horses with enough tactical speed to secure position into the first turn. Wider posts can still be competitive, but horses breaking outside generally benefit from early speed to avoid losing ground into the turn or getting hung wide in the backstretch.
Handicapper’s Edge
Today's conditions point toward giving extra credit to early speed and tactical speed, especially in dirt sprints where the pace scenario looks manageable. In multi-race wagers and vertical exotics, consider leaning toward horses drawn inside to middle posts with proven ability to break well and stay involved early, while demanding a better price on deep closers who may be pace-dependent.
