Pick Pony Track Condition Report — Finger Lakes Racetrack, June 1, 2026

Weather Forecast

Early projections for the Finger Lakes region on June 1 call for cool to mild temperatures, generally in the 60s to low 70s°F, with a moderate chance of scattered showers in the area during the afternoon.[3] Winds are expected to be light to moderate, generally 5–12 mph, with a westerly to northwesterly component, which is typical for early June in western New York.[3] Any showers are likely to be brief rather than prolonged, suggesting only limited, spotty moisture impact on the surface if they materialize.

Track Surface & Bias

Finger Lakes' dirt (D) surface traditionally plays as a fair-to-mildly speed-favoring track, especially when listed as fast, with inside to middle posts often getting the best of it in sprints. Historical patterns show that front-runners and pace-pressing stalkers tend to perform well here, as the relatively short stretch and configuration make it harder for deep closers to time a sustained late run. When there is light moisture or the track is sealed and drying, the bias can tilt further toward speed and inside paths, while a more thoroughly wet, “muddy” surface has at times allowed strong stalking types sitting just off the pace in the 2–4 paths to finish best.

Handicapper’s Edge

Given the typical Finger Lakes profile, handicappers should upgrade early speed and tactical pace types drawn on the inside to middle gates, particularly in sprint races where the run to the turn is short. In route events, look for pace-controlling stalkers who can secure a forward position without a hard duel, as the configuration still tends to blunt the impact of deep closers unless the early fractions are unusually hot.
