Race Day Overview — Monmouth Park, Saturday, June 20, 2026

Monmouth Park kicks off the weekend with an eight-race Saturday afternoon card, first post set for 12:50 PM Eastern. The card is well-balanced between turf and dirt, with four races on each surface. Half the card is contested on the grass, and per reports, the rails are set at 12 feet, which is a meaningful number for pace and positioning purposes. The turf course figures to be in excellent shape heading into the weekend following what has been a productive early summer meet at the Jersey Shore.

The big news surrounding Monmouth this week centers on Baby Vino's dominant 10-length victory in the Pegasus Stakes last weekend, a result that has the barn of Lindsay Schultz rightfully excited about a potential Haskell appearance. That buzz carries into the weekend as bettors return to the Shore looking for the next big story. On the stakes front, Sunday's $100,000 Lady's Secret Stakes features Dry Powder, a Gun Runner filly dropping out of graded company after a productive 3-year-old campaign in 2025, targeting the $500,000 Molly Pitcher Handicap as her next objective. None of today's eight races are stakes-level, but the card provides plenty of legitimate handicapping challenges across a mix of claiming, optional claiming, and maiden claiming conditions.

Today's card features two optional claiming turf sprints at 1210 furlongs that anchor the middle of the card in Races 3 and 5, both carrying a purse of $51,875. The two maiden claiming turf routes at 1870 furlongs open and close the card on the grass. The two dirt claiming routes at 1320 furlongs in Races 2 and 4 offer lower-level maiden and straight claiming opportunities, while Races 6 and 8 round out the card as open older-horse claiming dashes at 1320 furlongs on the main track.

Weather and Track Conditions

Saturday, June 20, 2026 at the Jersey Shore looks to be another beautiful summer afternoon, consistent with the extended period of pleasant weather that has settled over the Monmouth Park area. Expect warm temperatures in the low-to-mid 80s with low humidity and light winds off the coast. No meaningful precipitation is anticipated for race day, which should keep the main track rated fast and the turf course in firm-to-good condition.

With the rail set at 12 feet, horses running on the turf today will need to travel slightly wider than inside runners would on a standard rail placement, but this configuration spreads the footing across a wider section of the course and generally results in a fair, consistent surface throughout the day. Turf course reports from the past two weekends at Monmouth have been favorable, with no significant soft or yielding readings reported. The grass should play firm to good, slightly favoring horses with tactical speed who can track a pace and produce a clean late kick rather than deep closers who need a softer surface to generate traction.

Track Bias and Post Position Analysis

On the Monmouth Park main track under fast conditions, the rail and inside paths have historically shown a modest speed-favoring bias over the course of the meet, particularly at the one-turn mile and sprint distances. Inside post positions at 1320 furlongs tend to benefit horses that break cleanly and establish position early, as the run to the clubhouse turn is relatively short from the gate. However, the bias is not so pronounced that outside closers are eliminated entirely, especially in races where multiple speed horses are drawn together and a contested pace develops.

On the turf course today at 1870 furlongs, the two-turn configuration over the grass means early position is important but not decisive. Horses drawn in the middle posts tend to fare well in turf routes at Monmouth, as they can settle into favorable tracking trips without getting trapped on the rail or forced extremely wide around both turns. The 1210-furlong turf sprint is a one-turn affair where inside posts can be slightly advantageous, particularly if a horse has tactical speed to secure a good position early. However, with the rail at 12 feet, even posts 5 through 8 are within a workable range.

In general, expect speed to be respected on the dirt today and tactical runners to have an edge on the grass. Horses with early foot that can settle are the profile to follow throughout the card.

RACE 1 — Post (12:50)/11:50/10:50/9:50 — 1870f | T | C | Clm 16000b | BUM | Purse $15,500

This opener is a claiming route for older fillies and mares at $16,000 claiming value, run at 1870 furlongs on the turf. It is a five-horse field plus two that shapes up as a small but competitive affair. The rail at 12 feet means turf route runners will need to navigate two turns with slightly more room than usual. This race figures to be contested at a measured early pace with horses settling and the race coming down to which horse holds form best in the final furlong.

Race 1

Pace Analysis

With Princess Summer (6) installed as the heavy morning line favorite at 1-1, she likely sets the tone for the pace discussion. The Mike Maker barn rarely sends out horses unprepared, and a 1-1 morning line in a small claiming turf field suggests the connections feel strongly about their chances. Whether she is a pacesetter or a stalker will shape this race considerably. El Ma'any (2) and Radar Loop (5), both trained by Mike Dini, represent a potentially tactical stable entry or near-entry that could control early positioning. More Vino Rosa (4) for Kelly Breen could press or stalk. The overall pace figure should be moderate, with the race likely to come down to the final turn in a group and produce a legitimate stretch run.

Key Contenders

Princess Summer (6) is the clear public choice and deserves her favoritism. Trainer Michael Maker is among the elite conditioners in the sport and regularly produces sharp turf runners at all levels of the claiming ranks. Luis Rivera Jr. gets the call, and he is among the more active and effective riders at the Monmouth meet. A horse trained by Maker at even money on the turf is a horse to take seriously regardless of conditions.

More Vino Rosa (4) draws interest as a Kelly Breen trainee, a barn that operates with strong efficiency at Monmouth. Pascacio Lopez has been a reliable rider at the meet and gets the mount. The name is obviously a nod to the current Monmouth buzz around Baby Vino, but connections here are looking for a real result.

Secondary Choices

El Ma'any (2) and Radar Loop (5) are co-owned or stablemates from the Mike Dini barn, a consistent Monmouth operation. Both are listed at 4-1 on the morning line. Sonny Leon picks up El Ma'any (2) and Samuel Marin takes Radar Loop (5). The Dini barn has shown an ability to place horses effectively in turf routes, and running two in the same field occasionally suggests each horse has a legitimate chance. El Ma'any (2) with Leon may be the one to side with of the two given the jockey edge.

Red Haired Gal (1) draws the rail and is listed at 12-1. Felix L. Flores-Coba is a local trainer who works quietly and occasionally springs a live one at a price. Luis M. Ocasio has been picking up mounts throughout the card today, suggesting he is active and hungry. The inside post in a turf route can be a mixed blessing, but if the pace unfolds favorably, she could save ground and be a factor.

Longshots

Power And Glory (3) at 10-1 for Glenn R. Thompson with C. Sutherland aboard is a classic short-priced longshot. Sutherland is busy today, showing up on multiple cards, and is worth tracking as a jockey who knows the course. Only You (7) at 6-1 for Jorge Delgado and Jose Antonio Gomez is another that merits consideration. Gomez is one of the more active riders on this card and Delgado trains a reasonable barn. At 6-1, Only You (7) is not a true longshot and could outrun the morning line.

Selections

Win: Princess Summer (6) Place: More Vino Rosa (4) Show: El Ma'any (2)

Betting Strategy: Princess Summer (6) is a legitimate single if you are building a multi-race ticket. She profiles as one of the stronger Maker-trained favorites you will see in a $16,000 claiming field. An exacta box with More Vino Rosa (4) and El Ma'any (2) underneath makes sense. If the price holds at 1-1, win wagering on Princess Summer (6) is reasonable, but the value in this race lies in the exacta and trifecta with the Breen and Dini runners filling the undercard.

RACE 2 — Post (1:24)/12:24/11:24/10:24 — 1320f | D | C | Clm 7500n3l | BUN | Purse $17,500

Race 2 is a one-mile dirt sprint for horses that have not won three races lifetime, carded at the $7,500 claiming level. Six horses make up this field, which is a competitive bottom-level claiming affair on the main track. The n3l condition limits the field to horses that are still building their record, and these types of races tend to be unpredictable because you are dealing with developing horses whose form can change quickly.

Race 2

Pace Analysis

Mambrino (5) is the public choice at 1-1, and the Jose Lozano Sanchez barn has been competitive at Monmouth this meet. If Mambrino (5) has early foot, he could clear to the lead and control things wire-to-wire. More Power (3) at 3-1 is also likely to be forwardly placed. Cassation (1) from the rail could be a pace factor as well. The pace sets up as potentially contested early, which could benefit a closer if one exists in the field. Real Blues (6) from the Kelly Breen barn might appreciate a hot pace.

Key Contenders

Mambrino (5) is the morning line favorite with Pascacio Lopez in the irons for trainer Jose Lozano Sanchez. The 1-1 price tag reflects genuine confidence in the horse's ability to handle this level, and Lopez is one of the sharper riders on today's card. In a race where experience matters, the favorite deserves full respect.

More Power (3) at 3-1 for Devon Dougherty with C. Sutherland is a horse that figures to be involved early. Dougherty is a trainer who competes regularly at Monmouth and knows how to spot a horse in the right spot. Sutherland is picking up mounts throughout the card, showing his current form is solid.

Secondary Choices

Real Blues (6) represents the Kelly Breen stable with Luis Rivera Jr., and the Breen-Rivera combination has been productive throughout this meet. Breen's horses are consistently well-prepared, and Real Blues (6) at 6-1 could be the value play in this race if Mambrino (5) is taken down in the early fractions. This is a horse to include in exactas and trifectas.

Cassation (1) from the rail with Ramon F. Moya draws inside and could save ground through the run to the first turn. Anthony Margotta Jr. trains a steady barn and Cassation (1) at 4-1 on the morning line could be competitive in a pace-contested scenario.

Longshots

Island Spirit (4) at 8-1 for Rory K. Huston and Christian Maragh is a horse to mention. Huston runs a consistent operation at Monmouth and Maragh is a capable rider. At 8-1, Island Spirit (4) could be a live longshot, particularly in a race where the pace shapes up hot and the closers get their chance.

Wild Jaime (2) at 12-1 for Wayne Potts with Noel Herman is likely a throwout at the morning line price unless significant stable support is noted at the windows. Potts trains a modest operation and Wild Jaime (2) will need significant improvement to compete here.

Selections

Win: Mambrino (5) Place: More Power (3) Show: Real Blues (6)

Betting Strategy: This is a race where keying Mambrino (5) on top in exactas with More Power (3) and Real Blues (6) underneath makes the most sense. The trifecta using Mambrino (5), More Power (3), Real Blues (6), and Cassation (1) in multiple combinations could pay nicely. If Mambrino (5) drifts above 5-2 at post time, he becomes an even better value play given the Breen runner at 6-1 looms as the primary danger.

RACE 3 — Post (1:54)/12:54/11:54/10:54 — 1210f | T | AO | OClm 15000n1x | BUN | Purse $51,875

Race 3 is the first of two identical condition optional claiming turf sprints at 1210 furlongs, offered for older horses that have not won a race other than claiming or are entered to be claimed for $15,000. At a purse of $51,875, this is among the better-paying races on the card and draws a full field of ten. The turf sprint at 1210 furlongs on Monmouth's course is a one-turn affair with a solid run from the gate to the first turn, making early position particularly important.

Race 3

Pace Analysis

With ten horses going around one turn on the turf, early fractions can be unpredictable. Smithwick's Spice (3) and Superfractor (10) are co-favorites at 2-1 on the morning line, suggesting two distinct profiles are drawing equal support. Whether one of them is a pace factor or a closer will shape the race significantly. The Pauly Factor (8) at 4-1 and Really Quick (7) at 5-1 are both horses that could press or stalk the pace. Just Comply (2) at 6-1 from the Dini barn with Sonny Leon could be an early factor as well. This race figures to feature a competitive early pace with horses bunching through the turn and the race developing into a sprint to the wire in the final 2.5 furlongs.

Key Contenders

Smithwick's Spice (3) at 2-1 for Douglas Nunn with Jorge Luis Gonzalez is one of the co-favorites and deserves primary attention. Nunn is a trainer who knows how to spot turf sprinters at Monmouth, and a 2-1 morning line in a 10-horse field suggests legitimate confidence. Gonzalez is a live rider at the meet and the post position from the 3 hole is workable in a turf sprint.

Superfractor (10) at 2-1 for Ben Perkins Jr. with Jomar Torres draws the outside post, which in a turf sprint is less than ideal, but Perkins is a sharp conditioner who consistently sends horses to the gate ready to run. Torres is picking up several mounts today. The outside draw means Superfractor (10) will likely need a wide trip, but if the pace is contested and the rail path gets congested, a horse running freely on the outside has a chance.

The Pauly Factor (8) at 4-1 for Amelia J. Green with Luis Rivera Jr. is a horse to watch. The Green barn occasionally produces sharp turf runners at this level, and Rivera is among the top riders available on today's card. Post 8 is manageable in a one-turn sprint and The Pauly Factor (8) could benefit from a pace-pressing trip.

Secondary Choices

Really Quick (7) at 5-1 for Joan Milne with Pascacio Lopez is worth serious consideration. Milne trains a reliable operation at Monmouth and Lopez is one of the more effective jockeys at this meet. Running two in this race with Midnight Story (9) at 6-1 and Sutherland aboard, the Milne barn clearly feels these conditions suit both horses. Really Quick (7) with Lopez gets the nod as the more live of the two barn entries.

Just Comply (2) at 6-1 from the Mike Dini barn with Sonny Leon is a horse that Dini consistently places well on the turf. Leon is a capable rider and the 2 post is favorable in a turf sprint, allowing the horse to find a ground-saving trip without getting trapped behind traffic.

Midnight Story (9) at 6-1 also from the Milne barn with Sutherland is the second string behind Really Quick (7) but merits inclusion in trifectas and superfectas.

Longshots

Perrotto (4) at 6-1 for Sergio Rabadan with Jose Antonio Gomez is not a true longshot at that price but profiles as a secondary consideration. Rabadan runs a competitive operation at Monmouth and Gomez has multiple mounts today, suggesting he is in good form.

Vesparo (1) at 8-1 from the Rory K. Huston barn with Ramon F. Moya gets the rail and could be a factor if the pace sets up favorably. Inside posts in turf sprints have a slight advantage and Moya is capable of finding a stalking trip from there.

Midnight Story (9) has already been mentioned. Lecanto (5) at 20-1 for Cesareo Marquez with Ocasio is likely the race's longest shot and difficult to include in standard exotic wagers. T V Man (6) at 10-1 for James Frangella Jr. with Charlie Marquez is a mild longshot worth a token superfecta inclusion given the 10-1 morning line price.

Selections

Win: Smithwick's Spice (3) Place: The Pauly Factor (8) Show: Really Quick (7)

Betting Strategy: With ten horses, this race is a trifecta and superfecta opportunity. Use Smithwick's Spice (3) on top with The Pauly Factor (8) and Really Quick (7) to fill out the trifecta. Superfractor (10) is a clear danger despite the wide draw and should be included in superfecta coverage. An exacta box with Smithwick's Spice (3), The Pauly Factor (8), and Superfractor (10) is a reasonable approach for players who prefer exactas.

RACE 4 — Post (2:24)/1:24/12:24/11:24 — 1320f | D | C | Clm 5000b | BUN | Purse $15,500

Race 4 drops down to the $5,000 claiming level on the main track, one mile, for horses that have not been entered to be claimed in the past 90 days or are first-time starters. The “b” condition adds a layer of intrigue to this field. Seven horses line up for what figures to be a contested dirt sprint. This is a race where pace will be critical and the horse that gets a clean trip from a favorable post could control the outcome.

Race 4

Pace Analysis

Chuck Willis (3) and Crypto Man (5) are co-morning line favorites at 2-1, and both figure to be involved early. In a 1320-furlong main track race, early position from the gate is critical and a contested pace between these two could set up for Levee Was Dry (6) at 5-1 or Gowokegobroke (1) at 4-1 to close late. Syntactic (2) for Jose H. Delgado could also press the pace. The shape of this race hinges largely on whether Chuck Willis (3) or Crypto Man (5) is more forwardly positioned.

Key Contenders

Chuck Willis (3) at 2-1 for Silvino Ramirez with Christian Maragh is one of the co-favorites. Ramirez is a trainer who competes regularly in this tier of the claiming ranks and clearly feels Chuck Willis (3) is well-spotted here. Maragh is a solid rider and post 3 gives the horse room to find its preferred running style.

Crypto Man (5) at 2-1 for Alexis Delgado with Pascacio Lopez is the other co-favorite. Lopez continues to be one of the busiest and most effective riders on this card, picking up quality mounts across the board. Crypto Man (5) from post 5 has a clean look and the horse should be forwardly placed.

Secondary Choices

Gowokegobroke (1) at 4-1 for Jorge Delgado with Sutherland from the rail is worth watching. Delgado is a regular Monmouth trainer and the rail in a dirt route at 1320 furlongs can be a subtle advantage if the horse breaks cleanly. Sutherland continues his busy day.

Syntactic (2) at 6-1 for Jose H. Delgado with Jose Antonio Gomez is a horse that could be forwardly placed alongside the co-favorites. Gomez is active throughout the card today and Syntactic (2) at 6-1 is a legitimate exacta consideration.

Levee Was Dry (6) at 5-1 for Pompeyo Gomez with Noel Herman is the type of horse that could benefit from a pace-heated scenario. If Chuck Willis (3) and Crypto Man (5) knock heads early, Levee Was Dry (6) has a chance to swoop late.

Longshots

Awesome For Sure (4) at 10-1 for Joann Bertone with Kendry Rivera is a mild longshot in a deep bottom-level claimer. Bertone runs two horses in today's card and Awesome For Sure (4) is the lesser of her entries. Latin Spice (7) at 12-1 for Jeffrey A. Poole with Samuel Marin is likely the longest shot in the race and difficult to include in standard wager structures.

Selections

Win: Crypto Man (5) Place: Chuck Willis (3) Show: Levee Was Dry (6)

Betting Strategy: The two 2-1 co-favorites create an unusual morning line situation. Keying one over the other in exactas is a legitimate approach. Crypto Man (5) with Lopez gets a slight edge given the jockey advantage. An exacta with Crypto Man (5) on top of Chuck Willis (3), Gowokegobroke (1), and Levee Was Dry (6) is the play. A trifecta using those four horses in wheel format could produce a solid payout.

RACE 5 — Post (2:54)/1:54/12:54/11:54 — 1210f | T | AO | OClm 15000n1x | BUM | Purse $51,875

Race 5 mirrors Race 3 in conditions — another 1210-furlong optional claiming turf sprint for older mares at $15,000 optional claiming, carrying the same $51,875 purse. This time, a massive 14-horse field goes to the gate, making this one of the most challenging handicapping puzzles on the card. With 14 horses going one turn on the turf, trip trouble, post position, and pace positioning become even more critical. The “M” designation confirms this is for fillies and mares.

Race 5

Pace Analysis

Fourteen runners in a one-turn turf sprint creates enormous pace complexity. La Resolana (5) at 3-1 appears to be the morning line public choice and the Sanchez barn has been active at the meet. One Fine Wine (7) at 4-1 for Patrick B. McBurney with Sonny Leon and Air Masque (9) at 4-1 for Ben Perkins Jr. with Jose Antonio Gomez are also early favorites. D' Tiger Lily (11) at 4-1 for Tony Wilson also carries that price. With four co-favorites at 4-1 and a race this large, pace is virtually impossible to predict with certainty. Expect a contentious early pace with multiple horses rushing to secure position, which should set up for a horse that can relax and close ground on the turn.

Key Contenders

La Resolana (5) at 3-1 is the public choice, trained by Jose Lozano Sanchez with Pascacio Lopez in the irons. Sanchez-Lopez has shown solid results at this meet and La Resolana (5) from post 5 has a reasonable trip scenario in a large field. Lopez is clearly the busiest and most impactful jockey on today's card and is worth following wherever he rides.

One Fine Wine (7) at 4-1 for Patrick B. McBurney with Sonny Leon is trained by a conditioner who has done solid work with older fillies and mares on the Monmouth turf. Leon is a capable jockey and post 7 in a 14-horse turf sprint is workable if the horse can find a comfortable stalking position.

Air Masque (9) at 4-1 for Ben Perkins Jr. with Jose Antonio Gomez has caught the eye of multiple handicappers. Perkins trains a sharp stable and Gomez is one of the more effective riders at getting horses into contention in traffic-heavy turf sprints.

Secondary Choices

Red Head Italian (13) at 6-1 for Kelly Breen with Luis Ocasio is a horse to note. Breen is one of the more effective trainers at spotting horses in the right spots and Red Head Italian (13) at 6-1 in a 14-horse field could be among the better values on the board. The outside draw from post 13 is a concern, but Breen horses tend to find their way.

Golden Ring (12) at 6-1 for Sergio Rabadan with Jorge A. Vargas Jr. is another 6-1 shot worth including in exotics. Rabadan runs a consistent operation and at 6-1 in this field, Golden Ring (12) represents a potential overlay if Breen and Perkins horses attract the most attention.

D' Tiger Lily (11) at 4-1 for Tony Wilson with Jose Antonio Gomez — note that Gomez is listed on both Air Masque (9) and D' Tiger Lily (11) in the morning line. If a jockey switch occurs, the horse retaining Gomez likely gets the nod in the barn's opinion as well. Both should be followed closely at scratch time.

Slick Merlin (3) at 5-1 for Charles Spina with Charlie Marquez is a trainer that runs two in this race alongside Last Flag Flying (4) at 8-1 with Jomar Torres. Spina clearly feels this distance and surface suits his horses. Slick Merlin (3) at 5-1 from the 3 post is the more attractive of the two stable entries based on draw.

Longshots

Lidia Rose (8) at 8-1 for Rory K. Huston with Ramon F. Moya is worth superfecta consideration. Huston consistently runs well-prepared horses on the Monmouth turf and Lidia Rose (8) could be a live outsider at that price.

Speightfulelection (1) at 8-1 for Devon Dougherty with Christian Maragh draws the rail, which in a 14-horse turf sprint can be extremely challenging early as horses rush for position. However, if the pace becomes heated and Speightfulelection (1) gets a clean trip along the inside, the rail could become an advantage late.

Blue Moon Tide (10) at 8-1 for Eddie Owens Jr. with Luis Rivera Jr. is a mild longshot backed by a solid jockey. Rivera has been one of the better performers at this meet and a horse at 8-1 with that rider warrants at least superfecta inclusion.

Sea Maiden (14) at 8-1 for Sergio Rabadan with Sonny Leon draws the extreme outside in a 14-horse field. The wide draw is a significant disadvantage in a one-turn turf sprint and Sea Maiden (14) would need a near-perfect trip to overcome it. Difficult to recommend for standard wagers.

I Can Explain (2) at 20-1 for Riquelvis Grullon with Luis Ocasio and Purple Lu Lu (6) at 20-1 for Joann Bertone with Kendry Rivera are the two outsiders and will need significant improvement to factor. Last Flag Flying (4) at 8-1 for Spina with Torres is in the same boat as Slick Merlin (3) but is the secondary Spina entry.

Selections

Win: La Resolana (5) Place: One Fine Wine (7) Show: Air Masque (9)

Betting Strategy: With 14 horses in a one-turn turf sprint, this is a prime superfecta race. Use La Resolana (5), One Fine Wine (7), Air Masque (9), and Red Head Italian (13) as your primary four and spread into Slick Merlin (3), Golden Ring (12), and Blue Moon Tide (10) as deeper options. The exacta in this race will likely pay well given the large field and four co-favorites. A wheel of La Resolana (5) over the field in the exacta is a reasonable, if expensive, approach. Trifectas and superfectas are the primary play.

RACE 6 — Post (3:26)/2:26/1:26/12:26 — 1320f | D | CO | OClm 12500 | BUN | Purse $21,000

Race 6 is an open older horse optional claiming sprint at 1320 furlongs on the dirt for $12,500 optional claiming value. Seven horses make up the field, and the “O” designation means the field is mixed gender. Just Relax (6) is the heavy morning line favorite at 2-1 for trainer Michael V. Simone with Pascacio Lopez, continuing a theme on this card of the Lopez-trained favorite combination.

Race 6

Pace Analysis

Just Relax (6) at 2-1 is the horse to beat and the pace analysis starts with her. President Z (3) at 3-1 for Wayne Potts with Sonny Leon is also likely to be forwardly placed. Foil (1) from the rail for Pompeyo Gomez with Noel Herman could also factor in the early pace. If Just Relax (6) is on the lead, this race may be straightforward. If President Z (3) and Foil (1) press her, the pace could set up for Electric Eel (4) or Pogi (5) to close.

Key Contenders

Just Relax (6) at 2-1 is the clear public choice and for good reason. Michael Simone is a trainer who competes effectively at the $12,500 optional claiming level and Lopez on the favorite is a difficult combination to beat at Monmouth this meet. This horse deserves to be a single in multi-race tickets.

President Z (3) at 3-1 for Wayne Potts with Sonny Leon is the most logical danger. Potts fields two horses today across the card and President Z (3) at 3-1 is the type of price that can produce an exacta payout with some value attached. Leon is a solid rider and knows the Monmouth course.

Secondary Choices

Pogi (5) at 4-1 for Silvino Ramirez with Samuel Marin is worth considering. Ramirez ran Chuck Willis (3) in Race 4 and runs Pogi (5) in Race 6, showing a busy day for the operation. Pogi (5) at 4-1 from post 5 has a workable draw and if the pace is contested, this horse could close late.

Electric Eel (4) at 6-1 for Anthony Margotta Jr. with Luis Rivera Jr. is the secondary consideration. Margotta is a solid Monmouth barn and Rivera is one of the better riders at the meet. Electric Eel (4) at 6-1 could be a value play if Just Relax (6) goes off at a short price.

Foil (1) at 5-1 for Pompeyo Gomez with Noel Herman from the rail is a pace factor. Herman has been picking up mounts throughout the card and Foil (1) at 5-1 from the inside has an underrated chance if the pace becomes contested and this horse conserves energy.

Longshots

Beware Of Pride (2) at 8-1 for Joann Bertone with Joezer Rangel is a mild longshot. Bertone runs three horses today across multiple races and Beware Of Pride (2) with Rangel at 8-1 is a superfecta inclusion at best.

My Mamba (7) at 15-1 for Bertone with Kendry Rivera is the longest shot in the race. Two Bertone entries at 8-1 and 15-1 in the same race suggests the barn is spreading its chances rather than presenting a primary target. My Mamba (7) is a throwout at the price.

Selections

Win: Just Relax (6) Place: President Z (3) Show: Pogi (5)

Betting Strategy: Just Relax (6) is a strong single candidate at 2-1 for players building multi-race tickets. An exacta with Just Relax (6) on top of President Z (3) and Pogi (5) is the play. Electric Eel (4) deserves inclusion in trifectas. If Just Relax (6) goes off below 2-1, the value shifts toward a small exacta box using President Z (3) and Pogi (5) as the primary alternative investment.

RACE 7 — Post (3:56)/2:56/1:56/12:56 — 1870f | T | M | Md 16000 | BUN | Purse $15,000

Race 7 is the turf route maiden claiming race at 1870 furlongs for horses seeking their first career win at the $16,000 maiden claiming level. Ten horses make up the field, mixing first-time starters or horses that have been trying to break their maiden at this level. Turf route maiden claiming races are among the most difficult to handicap because of the variability of first-time starters and the inconsistent form of horses that have been repeatedly maidens.

Race 7

Pace Analysis

Jet Off (9) at 2-1 is installed as the morning line favorite, trained by George Weaver with Samuel Marin. Weaver is a well-regarded conditioner and a 2-1 favorite in a maiden turf route deserves respect. Restless Passion (5) at 4-1 for Mike Dini with Pascacio Lopez is also a notable entry. One Bid (6) at 4-1 for Timothy A. Hills with Charlie Marquez and All The Luck (8) at 4-1 for Patrick B. McBurney with Sonny Leon are also co-favorites at 4-1. Beck's Dreamer (10) at 4-1 for Wayne Potts with Luis Rivera Jr. rounds out the co-favorites at 4-1, making this a race with five horses sharing that same morning line range, suggesting the field is legitimate.

Key Contenders

Jet Off (9) at 2-1 for George Weaver and Samuel Marin is the clear public choice. Weaver is a New York-based trainer who regularly sends competitive horses to the New Jersey circuit and his maiden turf runners deserve respect. From post 9, Marin will need to find a comfortable trip in what figures to be a tactical affair, but Weaver horses are typically ready to compete off the first few starts.

All The Luck (8) at 4-1 for Patrick B. McBurney with Sonny Leon is a horse to watch. McBurney is a consistent Monmouth trainer and Leon on an McBurney maiden is worth noting. Post 8 in a turf route is manageable and All The Luck (8) could stalk the pace and close.

One Bid (6) at 4-1 for Timothy A. Hills with Charlie Marquez is another co-favorite worth considering. Hills trains a quiet but effective operation and MARQUEZ has been active on today's card.

Secondary Choices

Restless Passion (5) at 4-1 for Mike Dini and Pascacio Lopez is the Dini barn's entry on the turf today. Dini runs multiple horses throughout the card and this is his featured maiden runner. Lopez is the busiest rider of the day and on a Dini horse at 4-1, this is a legitimate contender.

Beck's Dreamer (10) at 4-1 for Wayne Potts with Luis Rivera Jr. is the final co-favorite. Rivera has been one of the more active and successful riders on this card and Potts sends two horses to the gate today in Races 6 and 7. Beck's Dreamer (10) from post 10 is the widest of the co-favorites but Rivera should find a comfortable outside path.

Hurricane Jerry (2) at 6-1 for Charles Spina with Jomar Torres is worth mentioning. Spina also saddles horses in Race 5 and runs a busy card. Hurricane Jerry (2) at 6-1 on the turf at 1870 furlongs is a legitimate trifecta candidate.

Longshots

Matty B Good (4) at 8-1 for Joseph W. Mazza with Noel Herman is a mild longshot. Mazza is a trainer who works quietly at the meet and Matty B Good (4) at 8-1 could outrun that price if the conditions suit.

Charlie Hustle (1) at 15-1 for Jose H. Delgado with Luis Rivera Jr. — note that Rivera is also listed on Beck's Dreamer (10), suggesting a potential jockey change. The horse that retains Rivera should be followed closely. Pretty Sixxy (3) at 15-1 for Riquelvis Grullon with Ocasio is a longshot in a wide-open maiden field. Gaborone (7) at 15-1 for Rudy R. Rodriguez with Jose Antonio Gomez is also a throwout at the morning line price.

Selections

Win: Jet Off (9) Place: All The Luck (8) Show: Restless Passion (5)

Betting Strategy: Jet Off (9) is a legitimate single for Weaver fans, but in a maiden turf route with five horses at 4-1, the race invites horizontal wagering. An exacta box using Jet Off (9), All The Luck (8), One Bid (6), and Restless Passion (5) is a reasonable approach. Trifectas using those four with Hurricane Jerry (2) and Beck's Dreamer (10) in deeper positions makes sense. This race is better attacked in the Pick 4 or Pick 5 than with heavy win wagering given the competitive morning line.

RACE 8 — Post (4:28)/3:28/2:28/1:28 — 1320f | D | CO | OClm 12500 | BUM | Purse $21,000

The closer is a 1320-furlong main track optional claiming sprint for older fillies and mares at $12,500 optional claiming value. Six horses make up this manageable field to close the card. Unsolved Mystery (4) is the heavy morning line favorite at 1-1 for trainer Luis Rivera Jr. with Jorge A. Vargas Jr. in the irons. Charlie's Beauty (3) at 2-1 for Juan Carlos Avila with Pascacio Lopez is the main danger, and the race figures to be a two-horse affair unless one of the others can outrun the morning line.

Race 8

Pace Analysis

With a 1-1 and a 2-1 horse sharing most of the public support, the pace depends largely on which of these two horses is the speed of the race. If Unsolved Mystery (4) and Charlie's Beauty (3) both want to be on or near the lead, the pace could get heated, setting up for FOIL — wait, in this race, La Vecchia Signora (2) at 4-1 could benefit from a contested early pace. Peggysue I Love U (1) at 20-1 and Don't Tell Tammo (5) at 15-1 are the outsiders and unlikely to factor in the early tempo.

Key Contenders

Unsolved Mystery (4) at 1-1 is the heavy public choice and hard to dismiss in a six-horse field at even money. Trainer Luis Rivera Jr. — the trainer, not to be confused with jockey Luis Rivera Jr. — has clearly placed this horse with confidence, and Vargas is a capable jockey. At 1-1 in a six-horse field, Unsolved Mystery (4) is as close to a win bet as you will see in a $12,500 optional claiming sprint.

Charlie's Beauty (3) at 2-1 for Juan Carlos Avila with Pascacio Lopez is the main danger. Avila fields both Charlie's Beauty (3) and La Vecchia Signora (2) in this race, and at 2-1 morning line, Charlie's Beauty (3) is clearly the stable's primary entry. Lopez has been the busiest and most effective rider on the entire card today and a 2-1 shot with Lopez is always worth serious consideration.

Secondary Choices

La Vecchia Signora (2) at 4-1, also from the Avila barn, is the second entry for that operation. With Kendry Rivera aboard at 4-1, this horse represents value if Charlie's Beauty (3) and Unsolved Mystery (4) are the primary subjects of public attention. If the pace becomes contested between the two public choices, La Vecchia Signora (2) could be the unexpected winner from a stalking trip.

Duela Dent (6) at 8-1 for Alberto Plaza with Charlie Marquez is the mild longshot of this small field. Plaza is a trainer who operates steadily at the lower claiming levels and Duela Dent (6) at 8-1 deserves at least a trifecta look if the price holds or improves at post time.

Longshots

Peggysue I Love U (1) at 20-1 for Tony Wilson with Jose Antonio Gomez is the longest shot in the field. Wilson had D' Tiger Lily (11) in Race 5 and Peggysue I Love U (1) in Race 8, making for a busy day for the barn. At 20-1 in a six-horse field, Peggysue I Love U (1) is a throwout unless she shows significant morning line drift or stable support.

Don't Tell Tammo (5) at 15-1 for Anthony Margotta Jr. with Ramon F. Moya is also difficult to recommend at the morning line price. Margotta is a consistent trainer but 15-1 in a small field is daunting.

Selections

Win: Charlie's Beauty (3) Place: Unsolved Mystery (4) Show: La Vecchia Signora (2)

Betting Strategy: While Unsolved Mystery (4) is the heavy public choice, Charlie's Beauty (3) with Lopez represents the better value play in this spot. An exacta box using Charlie's Beauty (3), Unsolved Mystery (4), and La Vecchia Signora (2) is the primary play. If Charlie's Beauty (3) wins, the exacta with Unsolved Mystery (4) underneath will not pay much, but the reverse — Charlie's Beauty (3) underneath Unsolved Mystery (4) — might pay a solid number given the 1-1 public choice on top. A trifecta key using either favorite on top with the other and La Vecchia Signora (2) in third is the recommended play.

Jockey Notes and Insights

Pascacio Lopez stands out as the jockey to follow on this card. Lopez has mounts in virtually every race today, including the favorites in Races 2, 5, 6, and 8, and key contenders throughout. His affiliation with the Jose Lozano Sanchez barn in Race 2 and Race 5, Michael Simone in Race 6, and Juan Carlos Avila in Race 8 indicates that top trainers are seeking him out consistently, a reliable indicator of current form. Lopez has established himself as one of the most effective and sought-after riders at the current Monmouth meet and bettors would be well-served to follow his form throughout the afternoon.

Sonny Leon picks up multiple mounts today across Races 1, 3, 4, 5, 6, and 7, showing he is also among the more active riders on the card. Leon is a seasoned veteran who has competed at major circuits and his presence on today's card at various price points adds credibility to the mounts he accepts. His partnership with Mike Dini in Races 1 and 3 is worth noting, as Dini and Leon have collaborated effectively at Monmouth.

Luis Rivera Jr. has a full book of mounts as well, appearing in Races 1, 3, 4, 6, 7, and 8. Rivera has been one of the more effective riders at this meet and is clearly operating in strong current form given the number of quality connections he has secured. His mount on The Pauly Factor (8) in Race 3 and on Just Relax (6) — wait, Rivera is not on Just Relax (6), he is on Electric Eel (4) in Race 6 — his overall book reflects a rider in form.

C. Sutherland appears on multiple mounts including Power And Glory (3) in Race 1, More Power (3) in Race 2, Gowokegobroke (1) in Race 4, and Midnight Story (9) in Race 5. Sutherland is a workhorse rider at this meet and his mounts across multiple trainers suggest he is in the regular rotation of connections who rely on him.

Jose Antonio Gomez picks up mounts in Races 1, 3, 4, 5, 7, and 8, showing he is also among the busiest riders today. Gomez notably appears on both Air Masque (9) and D' Tiger Lily (11) in Race 5, a potential conflict that could result in a jockey change before post time. Monitor this situation closely, as the horse that retains Gomez in Race 5 may have a form edge in the barn's opinion.

Trainer Notes and Insights

Mike Dini is the busiest trainer on today's card, saddling horses in Races 1, 2, 3, 5, and 7. Dini's affiliation with Sonny Leon and his consistent presence throughout the card makes him the trainer to follow today. When Dini has multiple entries in a single race, as he does in Races 1 and 3, he clearly believes the conditions suit both horses, but handicappers should look for which one gets the more preferred jockey and draw as a signal of the barn's confidence.

Kelly Breen sends out runners in Races 1, 2, and 5, making the Breen barn another operation to follow. Breen has long been one of the premier trainers at Monmouth Park and her horses are consistently well-prepared. More Vino Rosa (4) in Race 1, Real Blues (6) in Race 2, and Red Head Italian (13) in Race 5 all represent legitimate live shots and the Breen-Lopez or Breen-Rivera combinations throughout the day are reliable indicators.

Joann Bertone runs horses in Races 4, 5, 6, and 7, making her a busy trainer on this card. Awesome For Sure (4) in Race 4, Purple Lu Lu (6) in Race 5, Beware Of Pride (2) in Race 6, and My Mamba (7) in Race 7 are all at various long prices, suggesting Bertone is spreading multiple horses and hoping one finds the right spot. At the prices listed, none of Bertone's entries warrant heavy wagering, but superfecta inclusions are reasonable.

Wayne Potts runs Wild Jaime (2) in Race 2, President Z (3) in Race 6, and Beck's Dreamer (10) in Race 7. At three different jockeys across three different races, Potts is looking for value across a wide range of the card. President Z (3) in Race 6 at 3-1 is his most attractive entry from a wagering perspective.

Sergio Rabadan fields Perrotto (4) in Race 3, Golden Ring (12) and Sea Maiden (14) in Race 5. Running two horses in the wide-open 14-horse turf sprint in Race 5 while also entering Perrotto (4) in Race 3 makes this a busy day for Rabadan. Golden Ring (12) at 6-1 in Race 5 is the most attractive of the three given the price and the somewhat more manageable draw compared to Sea Maiden (14) at post 14.

Rory K. Huston sends out Vesparo (1) in Race 3, Island Spirit (4) in Race 2, and Lidia Rose (8) in Race 5. Huston is a consistent trainer at this meet and his turf entries in Races 3 and 5 deserve respect at the prices offered.

Juan Carlos Avila fields two horses in the finale — La Vecchia Signora (2) and Charlie's Beauty (3) — which is a critical note. When a trainer runs two in the same race and has the choice of jockeys, the horse with the preferred rider is generally the barn's primary target. Pascacio Lopez on Charlie's Beauty (3) compared to Kendry Rivera on La Vecchia Signora (2) gives Charlie's Beauty (3) the edge in the barn's internal calculus.

Best Wagering Strategies and Value Plays

The most important single observation from today's card is Pascacio Lopez. He has mounts in the majority of races, frequently piloting horses at or near the favorite price. Following Lopez throughout the card is a legitimate multi-race wagering strategy. His mounts on Mambrino (5) in Race 2, La Resolana (5) in Race 5, Just Relax (6) in Race 6, and Charlie's Beauty (3) in Race 8 represent a formidable cross-section of public choices and potential value plays.

For the Pick 4 spanning Races 5 through 8, consider the following structure: La Resolana (5) over Just Relax (6) over Jet Off (9) over Charlie's Beauty (3) as your key horses in each leg. Spread in Race 5 using One Fine Wine (7) and Air Masque (9) as alternatives given the 14-horse turf sprint is the most volatile race on the card. In Race 7, spread to include All The Luck (8) and Restless Passion (5) alongside Jet Off (9). This provides coverage in the two most unpredictable legs while anchoring on the cleaner choices in Races 6 and 8.

For a Pick 3 spanning Races 6 through 8, key Just Relax (6) — Charlie's Beauty (3) or Unsolved Mystery (4) — against a spread in Race 7 using Jet Off (9), All The Luck (8), and Restless Passion (5). This is a manageable three-leg sequence that begins and ends with the two most likely winners on the card.

The best value exactas on the card are:

Race 3: Smithwick's Spice (3) over The Pauly Factor (8) and Superfractor (10) could generate a meaningful payout given the 10-horse field and co-favorites at 2-1.

Race 5: Any combination involving La Resolana (5) and One Fine Wine (7) or Air Masque (9) in the 14-horse field will pay a solid number. Exactas in large turf sprint fields almost always generate interesting prices.

Race 8: Charlie's Beauty (3) over Unsolved Mystery (4) is the primary exacta play of the finale. If Charlie's Beauty (3) wins, this exacta will pay a livelier number than the reverse given Unsolved Mystery (4)'s 1-1 morning line.

For trifecta players, Race 5 is the card's best investment given the 14-horse field and the near-certainty of an unpredictable result. Use La Resolana (5), One Fine Wine (7), and Air Masque (9) in the first three positions and spread four or five additional horses underneath including Red Head Italian (13), Slick Merlin (3), and Golden Ring (12). A 3x5x7 trifecta structure in Race 5 will cost between $30 and $60 depending on the number of combinations, but the potential payout in a 14-horse turf sprint could be substantial.

The card's most playable single is Just Relax (6) in Race 6. Michael Simone's horse at 2-1 in a seven-horse optional claiming sprint with Lopez in the irons against a relatively modest field is as close to a bankable result as you will find on a Saturday afternoon Monmouth card. Use Just Relax (6) as your anchor in multi-race tickets and build outward from there.
