Pick Pony Track Condition Report — Louisiana Downs, July 3, 2026

Track Surface & Bias

With hot midsummer conditions and no major recent rain indicated in the Shreveport area, the dirt (D) track at Louisiana Downs is expected to play fast to standard, favoring forwardly placed runners rather than deep closers. Inside posts on the dirt generally hold well when the surface is dry and tightly packed, giving a slight edge to speed and pace-pressers drawn inside to mid-gate. The turf (T) course, under firm, sun-baked conditions typical for early July, historically tilts toward stalkers and tactical mid-pack runners, with outside and mid posts performing reliably when the rail is at a customary setting.

Handicapper’s Edge

On the dirt, give extra consideration to horses with proven early speed or stalking style, especially those drawn inside or with the ability to secure position quickly into the first turn. On the turf, prioritize runners with tactical versatility and strong finishing kicks positioned in mid posts, while downgrading one-dimensional deep closers that may struggle to make up ground on a firm, efficient surface.
