Pick Pony Track Condition Report — Delaware Park, July 9, 2026

Track Surface & Bias

Delaware Park's dirt (D) surface is traditionally a fair-to-mildly speed-favoring track, with front‑runners and pace‑pressers holding an edge, especially at common sprint distances (5½f–6f) and the one‑mile route. Inside to mid posts tend to be slightly preferred on dirt sprints, as horses can secure position quickly into the relatively tight first turn. On the turf (T) course, historical patterns show a more neutral to slightly closer‑friendly profile, particularly at route distances where saving ground early and producing a sustained run from just off the pace has proven effective under typical “good/firm” summer footing.

Given typical early‑July conditions and recent cards run over fast dirt and good turf at Delaware Park, today's configuration is expected to play largely standard: speed should remain dangerous on dirt, while stalkers and well‑timed closers can be very competitive on turf provided they avoid wide, ground‑losing trips.

Handicapper’s Edge

On the dirt, lean slightly toward horses with tactical speed drawn from the inside to mid gates, especially in sprints where securing the rail or tracking just behind the lead is an advantage. On the turf, give extra consideration to runners with proven ability to settle, save ground, and finish, as typical Delaware Park summer turf footing rewards efficient trips and sustained late momentum.
