Hall of Fame trainer Steve Asmussen gets 11,000th win at Remington Park with son Erik in the saddle.

Steve Asmussen made history this past Saturday night, October 12, 2025, by becoming the first trainer in North American racing history to achieve 11,000 career victories. The milestone victory came at Remington Park in the eighth race when Beau Soleil, a 4-year-old Alternation filly owned by Clark Brewster, won by a neck under jockey Erik Asmussen – Steve’s own son.

The Historic Night

Asmussen entered Saturday’s program at Remington Park with 10,997 career wins and achieved the milestone through a remarkable family affair. His son Erik rode all three of Steve’s winners that evening, capturing victories in the second, third, and eighth races. The first two wins brought Steve to 10,999 victories, setting up the historic moment in race eight when Beau Soleil crossed the finish line first.

The achievement held special significance as a multigenerational family accomplishment. In a post-race interview, Asmussen reflected on how his career began with his father riding for him, and now his sons Keith and Erik continue the family tradition. Erik’s role in delivering the 11,000th win made the milestone particularly meaningful, with Steve noting how the night was “a family deal from beginning to end”.

Despite reaching this unprecedented milestone, the 58-year-old Hall of Fame trainer remains focused on the future. Asmussen expressed that he feels “like we’re in the middle and have a whole bunch left,” indicating his continued ambition and drive. The trainer emphasized his gratitude to his team, owners, and horses who made this achievement possible.

Remington Park Dominance

The milestone victory occurred at a track where Asmussen has established extraordinary dominance. He has won an unprecedented 19 training titles at Remington Park, with an all-time leading 1,331 total victories at the Oklahoma City track. Currently leading the standings with 29 wins this season, Asmussen is pursuing his 20th seasonal title as the current meeting continues through December 20.
