Race Day Overview — Gillespie County Fairgrounds (GIL), July 18, 2026

Gillespie County Fairgrounds in Fredericksburg, Texas hosts what promises to be a full and competitive Saturday card featuring ten races across distances ranging from 250 feet to one mile and five eighths (1,320 feet in Quarter Horse measure). The card is anchored by a pair of stakes races — the $30,000 open stakes sprint at 350 feet in Race 6 and the $35,000 Texas Thoroughbred Breeders stakes route in Race 8 — giving horseplayers a rich mix of short Quarter Horse dashes and longer Thoroughbred routes to dissect. The card opens at 2:00 PM local time with a 350-foot maiden special weight for all ages, and the stakes action begins in the afternoon stretch. Racing at GIL is a compact regional circuit featuring a tight-knit group of trainers and jockeys, many of whom appear across multiple races today, which creates meaningful angles for players who track connections closely.

Two names dominate the trainer standings at this meet: Joe Uriegas and J.R. Caldwell. Uriegas saddles runners in five races today, while Caldwell sends out three horses in Race 8 alone. On the jockey side, Victor Manuel Urieta Jr., Diego Contreras, and Eliazar T. Vera are the busiest riders on the card and bear close attention throughout the afternoon. The stakes in Race 6 draw some of the more recognizable regional names in Quarter Horse competition, with connections from Vallejo Racing, Trainer Noe Rios, and Trainer Joseph Manucy presenting interesting head-to-head matchups.

No major scratches or late changes have been announced as of post time for the opener. Bettors should monitor the changes board at the track, particularly in the sprint races, as late scratches in short-field sprints can dramatically reshape the wagering landscape.

Weather and Track Conditions

Fredericksburg, Texas in mid-July is characteristically hot and dry. Conditions on July 18, 2026 are expected to follow the typical Hill Country summer pattern — sunny skies, temperatures climbing into the upper 90s Fahrenheit by mid-afternoon, with humidity levels moderate by Texas standards. Winds out of the south-southwest at 10 to 15 miles per hour are forecast, which is not unusual for this region and should not materially affect the sprint races, though it is worth noting for the longer Thoroughbred routes in Races 7 and 8.

The Gillespie County Fairgrounds track is a straightforward quarter-horse-style dirt oval. Given the prolonged dry stretch typical of the area in July, the main track surface is anticipated to be fast and firm. No significant rainfall has been reported in the Fredericksburg area leading into the weekend, supporting the expectation of a sealed, hard-packed dirt surface. A fast track at GIL tends to favor horses with early gate speed who can break clean and establish position immediately — an especially critical factor in the ultrashort 250-foot and 300-foot dashes on this card.

Track Bias and Post Position Analysis

At Gillespie County Fairgrounds, post position bias is significant in the sprint races and largely irrelevant in the longer Thoroughbred routes. In races at 250 feet, 300 feet, and 350 feet, the race is essentially decided in the first two strides out of the gate. Horses that break sharp from inside and middle posts typically hold a slight advantage in the straightaway sprint format, as they avoid the wider arc that outside posts must negotiate through the chute. However, at GIL specifically, the gates are set to allow a relatively even break across all posts on a straight course, so the premium shifts heavily to gate ability and reaction time over post position alone.

In the short sprint races (Races 1, 2, 3, and 6), horses with strong gate records and early jump — regardless of post — are the primary selection filter. On a firm, fast track, any horse that is flat-footed at the break loses a deficit that simply cannot be recovered in 350 feet or less.

For the longer races in Races 4, 5, 7, and 8, inside posts provide a more tangible advantage in terms of saved ground, though horses with enough tactical speed to stalk a moderate pace from second or third position are also well-positioned. The rail at GIL in July tends to be sound and not sloppy, so the inside path is generally favorable.

RACE 1 — Post 2:00 — 350f | D | S | Md Sp Wt | AON | Purse $11,500

Pace Analysis

At 350 feet, pace analysis condenses to a single explosive burst. Every horse in this field will be at or near top speed within a handful of strides. The race will go to whichever runner shows the most consistent gate speed. With ten horses entered, the key question is who breaks cleanest. The morning line suggests a tight three-way battle at the top of the market between Jmg Oak Dulce (POST 4) at 2-1, Bolting Thru Fire (POST 1) at 3-1, and Eagle Desire (POST 7) at 4-1. The outside posts — Forsplay (POST 8), Kj Neon Moon (POST 9), and Bella C (POST 10) — face the most ground to cover, though on a straight track this is a modest disadvantage rather than a prohibitive one.

Key Contenders

Jmg Oak Dulce (POST 4) is the morning line favorite at 2-1, trained by Raul Rodriguez Jr. and piloted by Oliver E. Martinez. Rodriguez Jr. is a consistent regional conditioner who regularly delivers maiden winners at this circuit. Post 4 is an ideal striking position in a 350-foot dash — clean break access with no traffic concerns. Martinez has been a reliable and active rider at GIL meets and is comfortable in short sprint scenarios. The combination of favorable post, competent connections, and morning line favoritism makes this filly or colt the horse to beat.

Bolting Thru Fire (POST 1) draws inside under trainer Carlos B. Sanchez and jockey Eleazar Rivera Hernandez. Sanchez is one of the more active conditioners at this meet and sends out runners across the card today, suggesting confidence in his stable's form. Post 1 is a double-edged sword in sprint racing — a clean break from the inside rail can be a significant advantage, but if the horse dwells in the gate, there is no room to recover. Rivera Hernandez is a capable sprint rider who knows how to coax early speed, making this horse a legitimate threat at 3-1.

Secondary Choices

Eagle Desire (POST 7) at 4-1 is trained by Joseph D. Manucy, who also enters Just An Eagle (POST 3) in Race 6 later today, indicating the Manucy barn is in good form this weekend. Victor Manuel Urieta Jr. rides, and he is comfortably the leading rider on this card in terms of bookings. The outside post (7) is slightly wide but manageable on a straight course. A crisp break from Urieta Jr. could push this horse to the front immediately.

Kj Neon Moon (POST 9) at 6-1, trained by Jimmy Guerra Jr. and piloted by Claudio Ponce Aguilar, represents fair value if the favorites show any gate vulnerability. Guerra Jr. has solid maiden sprint experience in this region and occasionally springs longshot winners when his horses are fit. Post 9 is the wider draw but the price compensates.

Bella C (POST 10) at 8-1 trained by Joe Uriegas and ridden by Alejandro Landeros Zuniga rounds out the secondary tier. Uriegas' heavy presence today suggests a stable in good operational order, and Bella C (POST 10) at double-digit morning line prices could attract overlay attention if Uriegas' other runners fire today.

Longshots

Cowgirl Lyndi G (POST 2) at 15-1 trained by Octavio Saenz Jr. and ridden by Diego Contreras faces a tough assignment but Contreras is one of the better riders on the card and could sneak into the money if the top choices bump at the start.

I Run To U (POST 6) at 15-1 for trainer Jorge Rivas Correa and jockey H. Javier Hernandez is a mid-range longshot. Rivas Correa is capable of conditioning winners at this level, though 15-1 suggests this runner has not yet shown the gates works that inspire confidence.

Forsplay (POST 8) at 12-1 for Hector R. Osorio and Manuel Lara merits only token consideration given the outside draw and long price.

Face The Factz (POST 3) at 20-1 for Sergio Soto and Olvin Josue Martinez, Arribba (POST 5) at 20-1 for Jose Dolores Camacho and Eliazar T. Vera, and NOMBRE CHUT UP from Race 2 are all deep longshots with little realistic chance in a field of this depth. ARRIBB (POST 5) in particular faces a middle post but the price signals that connections do not expect a major effort.

Selections

Win: Jmg Oak Dulce (POST 4) Place: Bolting Thru Fire (POST 1) Show: Eagle Desire (POST 7)

Wagering strategy: Back Jmg Oak Dulce (POST 4) to win with a modest exacta box covering Bolting Thru Fire (POST 1) and Eagle Desire (POST 7) for the place slot. A trifecta key using Jmg Oak Dulce (POST 4) over Bolting Thru Fire (POST 1) and Eagle Desire (POST 7) over Kj Neon Moon (POST 9) and Bella C (POST 10) provides cost-effective coverage.

RACE 2 — Post 2:25 — 300f | D | S | Md Sp Wt | BUN | Purse $11,500

Pace Analysis

The 300-foot distance is the shortest on today's card and leaves virtually zero margin for error. Reaction time at the gate is the entire race. The morning line here is unusually compressed, with Fast Chilitos (POST 7) at 2-1 as the favorite, Krashotoole (POST 5) at 3-1 second choice, and Jr Separatist (POST 4) at 4-1 third choice. The three favorites occupy posts 4, 5, and 7 — a cluster of middle-to-outside posts that should yield a clean early flow if all break evenly.

Key Contenders

Fast Chilitos (POST 7) at 2-1 is the morning line choice trained by Jimmy Guerra Jr. with Victor Manuel Urieta Jr. aboard. Guerra Jr. sends this runner from post 7 with his leading rider, and at a short price of 2-1 the public clearly respects this horse's gate ability. Urieta Jr. being on the top choice in a 300-foot dash is notable — he would not accept this mount if he did not believe the horse could fire.

Krashotoole (POST 5) at 3-1 for trainer Carlos B. Sanchez and jockey Eleazar Rivera Hernandez mirrors the Race 1 setup — Sanchez again deploying his reliable sprint jockey from a middle post. Sanchez is clearly comfortable in these ultrashort maiden sprints and Krashotoole (POST 5) from post 5 is ideally positioned. At 3-1 this is the main danger to the favorite.

Secondary Choices

Jr Separatist (POST 4) at 4-1 for Joe Uriegas and Diego Contreras is a strong secondary choice. Uriegas knows this circuit intimately, and Contreras is a top-three rider on today's card. Post 4 is a prime breaking spot in a 300-foot race. The 4-1 price offers some value relative to the top two.

Sa The Purist Doyle (POST 8) at 6-1 for Carlos I. Mendoza and Oliver E. Martinez is the other horse worth tracking here. Post 8 is workable on a straight course, and Mendoza occasionally produces sharp performers from this barn at the regional level.

Longshots

Addicts Paintedwagon (POST 1) at 10-1 for Francisco J. Montiel and Alejandro Landeros Zuniga holds rail position but 10-1 suggests gate consistency has been an issue. Worth including in trifecta coverage only.

Texas Ghost Pepper (POST 9) at 10-1 for Jose Ivan Martinez and Aniceto Gomez offers fair odds from the outside. Gomez is a journeyman rider who can occasionally produce surprise efforts in short sprints.

Rode The Wave (POST 2) at 15-1 for Robert Monsivais and Ramirez Jr. Jr., Madero Cartel (POST 6) at 15-1 for Cleto Martinez Jr. and Eliazar T. Vera, and Spicy Corona N Lime (POST 10) at 20-1 for Jorge Rivas Correa and Luis Angel Maldonado are all deep outsiders with limited realistic prospects. Nombre Chut Up (POST 3) at 20-1 for Alex Hernandez and Paulina Ramirez rounds out the field at the bottom of the market.

Selections

Win: Fast Chilitos (POST 7) Place: Krashotoole (POST 5) Show: Jr Separatist (POST 4)

Wagering strategy: Straight exacta Fast Chilitos (POST 7) over Krashotoole (POST 5) is the primary play. Also key Fast Chilitos (POST 7) over Jr Separatist (POST 4) as a backup ticket. In trifecta play, use Fast Chilitos (POST 7) and Krashotoole (POST 5) on top with Jr Separatist (POST 4) and Sa The Purist Doyle (POST 8) filling the bottom.

RACE 3 — Post 2:50 — 250f | D | S | Md Sp Wt | AON | Purse $13,500

Pace Analysis

The 250-foot dash is pure explosion — the race is over before most fans have focused their binoculars. Gate break and early stride length are everything. At $13,500, this is the richest of the three opening maiden sprint races, attracting a competitive ten-horse field. The morning line installs Elegant Prize (POST 10) as the 2-1 favorite despite the widest post in the field, which speaks strongly to handicapper confidence in this runner's raw speed. Azooms Goldeye (POST 6) at 3-1 and Our Favorite Cowboy (POST 8) at 5-1 round out the early market.

Key Contenders

Elegant Prize (POST 10) at 2-1, trained by Martin Rodriguez and ridden by Victor Manuel Urieta Jr., is the public choice despite breaking from the 10 post. In a 250-foot race on a straight track, post position disadvantage is minimized more than in any other distance in racing. Urieta Jr. continues his dominant presence on today's card, and the combination of this jockey and trainer Rodriguez — who has won at this level — makes Elegant Prize (POST 10) the clear morning line anchor. The price will likely compress further by post time.

Azooms Goldeye (POST 6) at 3-1 for Ricardo Aguirre and Nestor Duran is ideally positioned from post 6 and offers legitimate competition. Aguirre has produced capable sprinters at this regional level and Duran is a competent short-distance pilot. This horse will attract substantial money and the exacta with Elegant Prize (POST 10) is a popular play.

Secondary Choices

Our Favorite Cowboy (POST 8) at 5-1 for Jimmy Guerra Jr. and Claudio Ponce Aguilar is the third key runner. Guerra Jr. is active and in-form today with multiple entries, and post 8 is manageable in a 250-foot dash. At 5-1 this offers decent value if the top two blunder at the gate.

El Fenix Boi (POST 7) at 6-1 for Jorge E. Rubio and Luis Angel Maldonado is a reasonable secondary selection at a fair price. Rubio is a capable regional trainer and post 7 adjacent to Our Favorite Cowboy (POST 8) sets up an interesting inside-outside dynamic in the final strides.

Streakin Jess Flair (POST 4) at 8-1 for Carlos B. Sanchez and Eleazar Rivera Hernandez continues Sanchez's busy day. From post 4 with his preferred sprint rider, this horse cannot be entirely dismissed at a price.

Longshots

Maybell 94 (POST 3) at 10-1 for Hector R. Osorio and Jose R. Herbert offers a mid-range longshot price that provides trifecta coverage value.

Nicki Nicole (POST 5) at 12-1 for Jacobo Mejia and Rigoberto Camarillo Ortega is a speculative inclusion in exotic coverage only.

Jb Queen Blue (POST 2) at 15-1 for Raul Rodriguez Jr. and H. Javier Hernandez is a horse to watch only in superfecta plays given the price.

Thirty Six Proof (POST 1) at 20-1 for Katherin Villa and Edwin Alejandro Ortega and Strawberrie Buzz (POST 9) at 20-1 for Antwain Ernest Franklin and Ruben Delarosa Jr. are the field-fillers here and are included in exotic play only as fifth and fourth choices in cost-effective superfecta combinations.

Selections

Win: Elegant Prize (POST 10) Place: Azooms Goldeye (POST 6) Show: Our Favorite Cowboy (POST 8)

Wagering strategy: The 2-1 favorite price on Elegant Prize (POST 10) makes straight wagering a thin value proposition. The better play is an exacta box covering Elegant Prize (POST 10) and Azooms Goldeye (POST 6) while keying Elegant Prize (POST 10) over Azooms Goldeye (POST 6), Our Favorite Cowboy (POST 8), and El Fenix Boi (POST 7) in the exacta. Trifecta coverage: Elegant Prize (POST 10) and Azooms Goldeye (POST 6) on top, with Our Favorite Cowboy (POST 8), El Fenix Boi (POST 7), and Streakin Jess Flair (POST 4) completing the bottom.

RACE 4 — Post 3:15 — 880f | D | S | Md Sp Wt | BUN | Purse $15,500

Pace Analysis

Race 4 shifts to the longer format of 880 feet — a half-mile distance where pace analysis becomes genuinely meaningful. With eight horses entered, the field is manageable. I Tiz Divine (POST 3) at 2-1 and Promise Me Money (POST 7) at 3-1 are clearly the two horses the handicappers have separated from the field. The pace question here is whether Promise Me Money (POST 7) stalks or pressures, and how I Tiz Divine (POST 3) handles early pressure. Mr Big Sexy (POST 1) at 4-1 from the inside could set a modest pace that sets up the closers if the field is even slightly slow to develop.

Key Contenders

I Tiz Divine (POST 3) at 2-1 is the morning line choice, trained by Steve Roubion and ridden by Victor Manuel Urieta Jr. Roubion is a respected conditioner who has won at multiple Texas circuit venues, and when he drops a horse into a maiden special weight route at this level, it typically comes well-prepared. Urieta Jr. riding at 2-1 again reinforces the public confidence here. Post 3 is excellent in a half-mile event, giving the rider options to dictate or stalk. This is the horse to beat.

Promise Me Money (POST 7) at 3-1 for Jayde J. Gelner and Rene Diaz is the most likely threat. Gelner also trains Little Lee (POST 1) in Race 5, suggesting an active stable. From post 7, Promise Me Money (POST 7) will need a clean beginning to avoid traffic, but Diaz is a capable route rider who can navigate. The 3-1 price offers legitimate value if Roubion's favorite encounters any trouble.

Secondary Choices

Mr Big Sexy (POST 1) at 4-1 for Jesse Sauceda and Ramirez Jr. Jr. is the inside post pace-setter candidate. If Mr Big Sexy (POST 1) breaks cleanly and establishes early position, he controls the tempo and could wire this field at a competitive price.

Harvey's Love (POST 2) at 6-1 for Danny Pish and Luis L. Vivanco is a reasonable secondary selection. Pish trains multiple horses on today's card and is clearly active and engaged at this meet. Post 2 is solid and Vivanco is a capable rider for a distance race.

Longshots

Cibolo Vision (POST 5) at 8-1 for James E. Jolley and Paulina Ramirez is the best-priced longshot with realistic placement prospects. Jolley is an experienced hand who prepares horses methodically, and Cibolo Vision (POST 5) at 8-1 could surprise in the exacta.

Followmeifyoucan (POST 4) at 10-1 for Dale A. Swift and Eliazar T. Vera and Texano Hero (POST 8) at 10-1 for Joe Uriegas and Diego Contreras are the other double-digit chances. Uriegas deploying Contreras on Texano Hero (POST 8) at 10-1 in a longer format is a mild interest angle — if Uriegas is primarily focused on his sprint horses today, this entry may be secondary in terms of barn resources, but the combination deserves respect.

No Regret (POST 6) at 15-1 for Anthony John Mulheron and Benavides D. is the longest price on the board in this race and is a realistic superfecta inclusion at best.

Selections

Win: I Tiz Divine (POST 3) Place: Promise Me Money (POST 7) Show: Mr Big Sexy (POST 1)

Wagering strategy: Straight win bet on I Tiz Divine (POST 3) is viable at 2-1 if you are confident in Roubion's form. The better value play is an exacta using I Tiz Divine (POST 3) and Promise Me Money (POST 7) in both directions for a box. Trifecta key: I Tiz Divine (POST 3) on top, with Promise Me Money (POST 7) and Mr Big Sexy (POST 1) in the middle, and Harvey's Love (POST 2), Cibolo Vision (POST 5), and Texano Hero (POST 8) completing the bottom.

RACE 5 — Post 3:40 — 880f | D | C | Clm 5000n2l | BUN | Purse $10,600

Pace Analysis

The lone claiming race on the card is a $5,000 claimer at 880 feet for horses that have not won two lifetime races. This is a field of limited runners with modest class levels. Blinknumissit (POST 7) opens as the 2-1 favorite, and the combination of Holiday Lines (POST 4) at 3-1 and Alla Te Espero Mr (POST 6) at 4-1 — both from the Uriegas barn — creates an interesting stable entry dynamic. When a trainer saddles two horses in the same race, watch for the one that draws the stronger jockey, which in this case is Diego Contreras aboard Alla Te Espero Mr (POST 6) over Eliazar T. Vera on Holiday Lines (POST 4). At this class level, pace scenarios can be volatile, and a front-running type that gets loose on the lead could wire the field.

Key Contenders

Blinknumissit (POST 7) at 2-1 for Aracely Mejia and Luis A. Huaman is the morning line choice. Mejia is a capable conditioner at this circuit level and Blinknumissit (POST 7) from post 7 with Huaman gives this horse tactical flexibility. At $5,000 claiming level, the favorite at 2-1 is not a strong overlay, but the public has spoken and this horse deserves respect.

Alla Te Espero Mr (POST 6) at 4-1 is the more interesting of the two Uriegas entries given that Diego Contreras — Uriegas' go-to rider on this card — takes the mount. Post 6 adjacent to the favorite creates the possibility of a classic Uriegas speed duel setup that could benefit a closing type.

Secondary Choices

Holiday Lines (POST 4) at 3-1 is the other Uriegas horse ridden by Eliazar T. Vera. Given Contreras' appointment on Alla Te Espero Mr (POST 6), Holiday Lines (POST 4) may be the secondary stable runner, but Vera is a capable enough jockey to win at this level. From post 4, Holiday Lines (POST 4) has inside positioning and could stalk a pace scenario set by others.

Eternal Mischief (POST 5) at 6-1 for Juan Carlos Ortega and Paulina Ramirez is an interesting secondary selection at a fair price. Ortega is an active conditioner and post 5 provides central positioning. At 6-1, Eternal Mischief (POST 5) represents value if the Uriegas pair tangle with each other.

Longshots

Little Lee (POST 1) at 8-1 for Jayde J. Gelner and Victor Manuel Urieta Jr. is the most intriguing longshot here. Gelner also runs Promise Me Money (POST 7) in Race 4 with Urieta Jr. aboard. If Promise Me Money (POST 7) wins Race 4, connections come into Race 5 with momentum, and Little Lee (POST 1) at 8-1 with a fresh Urieta Jr. aboard is a horse worth including in exotic coverage.

Quiet Melody (POST 3) at 8-1 for Jonathon Boxie and Benavides D. is paired with stablemate Imperial Dynasty (POST 2) at 15-1, also from Boxie. The cheaper stablemate price on Quiet Melody (POST 3) suggests Boxie prefers this runner and Benavides D. is a capable rider to deliver at the claiming level.

Bar Hoppin Billy (POST 9) at 12-1 for Ricardo Aguirre and Luis L. Vivanco is a credible outside longshot. Aguirre also trains Azooms Goldeye (POST 6) in Race 3, suggesting a multi-race participation day. Midnight Hunter (POST 8) at 20-1 for Jorge Rivas Correa and H. Javier Hernandez and Imperial Dynasty (POST 2) at 15-1 are realistic superfecta fillers only.

Selections

Win: Blinknumissit (POST 7) Place: Alla Te Espero Mr (POST 6) Show: Holiday Lines (POST 4)

Wagering strategy: The claiming race is tricky value-wise given the overlapping Uriegas stable. The primary exotic play is a trifecta using Blinknumissit (POST 7) on top over Alla Te Espero Mr (POST 6) and Holiday Lines (POST 4) in the middle with Eternal Mischief (POST 5) and Little Lee (POST 1) completing the bottom. If you believe in the Uriegas angle, an exacta box covering all three top selections — Blinknumissit (POST 7), Alla Te Espero Mr (POST 6), and Holiday Lines (POST 4) — is a manageable cost play.

RACE 6 — Post 4:05 — 350f | D | N | Stk 30k | BUN | Purse $30,000

Pace Analysis

The $30,000 open stakes sprint at 350 feet is the first marquee race of the afternoon and draws ten horses with legitimate stakes credentials in the Texas regional Quarter Horse scene. Vp Dash For Texas (POST 5) at 3-1 and La Cholula (POST 10) at 4-1 share the top of the market with Just An Eagle (POST 3) at 4-1 as co-third choice. In a stakes sprint of this caliber, every horse in the field will have demonstrated gate ability to enter, and the key differentiators are class edge and drawn post relative to breaking pattern. Mrs Pyc Painted Nova (POST 8) at 5-1 adds another legitimate stakes performer to a deep and competitive field.

Key Contenders

Vp Dash For Texas (POST 5) at 3-1 for trainer Noe Rios and jockey Nestor Duran is the morning line favorite. Post 5 is ideal in a ten-horse stakes sprint — clean air, no traffic concerns, and central positioning. Rios is an established trainer in Texas Quarter Horse circles, and the VP prefix on the horse's name suggests a well-bred, well-supported operation. Duran has the right type of aggressive early-speed style for this distance, and at 3-1 this is the horse around which to structure most exotic tickets.

La Cholula (POST 10) at 4-1 for trainer Shae L. Cox and jockey Ramirez Jr. Jr. is co-favorite despite the wide outside post. In a stakes sprint at 350 feet, an outside post can actually be an advantage for a horse that breaks explosively, as there is no interference risk from inside horses. Cox is a capable trainer who knows how to have a horse ready for a stakes effort, and Ramirez Jr. Jr. is a strong sprint jockey with multiple appearances on today's card.

Secondary Choices

Just An Eagle (POST 3) at 4-1 for Joseph D. Manucy and Raul Padilla Hernandez Jr. represents a clear Manucy stable pattern — the trainer also runs Eagle Desire (POST 7) in Race 1, giving the barn two bites at the apple with an “eagle” theme today. Just An Eagle (POST 3) from post 3 is well-positioned and Manucy's confidence in the stakes division is evident from multiple entries today. The 4-1 price is fair.

Mrs Pyc Painted Nova (POST 8) at 5-1 for Randy Read and Claudio Ponce Aguilar is a stakes-caliber runner at a price that slightly exceeds the top market choices. Read is a competent stakes trainer and PYC bloodlines suggest pedigree appropriate for this level. From post 8, AGUILAR needs a clean break to overcome the wide draw, and at 5-1 this horse offers genuine value.

Jackson Davis 747 (POST 9) at 10-1 for Octavio Saenz Jr. and Eliazar T. Vera is the most interesting mid-range price in the stakes field. Saenz Jr. is active today with multiple entries, and Vera continues to collect quality mounts throughout the card. At 10-1, Jackson Davis 747 (POST 9) could represent excellent exacta or trifecta value if the favorites encounter any traffic.

Longshots

I Do Not Recall (POST 7) at 8-1 for Richard Washington and Victor Manuel Urieta Jr. warrants attention. Urieta Jr. taking a stakes mount at 8-1 is a meaningful signal — this jockey has been strategically placed throughout the card and would not accept a stakes booking without confidence in the horse.

Miss Nely (POST 4) at 12-1 for Cleto Martinez Jr. and Diego Contreras offers a solid jockey-trainer combination at a long price. Contreras has multiple strong rides today and Martinez Jr. is capable at this level.

Vp Wired To Win (POST 1) at 20-1 for Ricardo Alonso Vallejo and Angel A. Fierro and Hot Lota (POST 2) at 20-1 for Francisco E. Rodriguez and Edwin Alejandro Ortega are the deepest outsiders in the stakes field and are realistic inclusions only in cost-effective superfecta plays.

Vp Gravel Pit Dancer (POST 6) at 15-1 is the second Vallejo entry alongside Vp Wired To Win (POST 1), and the stable typically focuses its primary attention on one runner when splitting entries. Handicappers generally view Vp Dash For Texas (POST 5) as the more capable of the Vallejo-adjacent runners given the tighter morning line price.

Selections

Win: Vp Dash For Texas (POST 5) Place: Just An Eagle (POST 3) Show: Mrs Pyc Painted Nova (POST 8)

Wagering strategy: The stakes sprint is the card's centerpiece for exotic wagering. An exacta box covering Vp Dash For Texas (POST 5), La Cholula (POST 10), and Just An Eagle (POST 3) is the primary play. For trifecta construction, key Vp Dash For Texas (POST 5) and La Cholula (POST 10) on top over Just An Eagle (POST 3) and Mrs Pyc Painted Nova (POST 8) in the middle, with I Do Not Recall (POST 7) and Jackson Davis 747 (POST 9) completing the bottom. A small win bet on I Do Not Recall (POST 7) at 8-1 with Urieta Jr. aboard is worth a speculative play.

RACE 7 — Post 4:30 — 1210f | D | N | GCFAMdnClc25k | BUN | Purse $25,000

Pace Analysis

Race 7 is a maiden claimer at $25,000 — the longest distance of the card at 1,210 feet (just over seven furlongs by Quarter Horse measurement). This shifts the race profile entirely from the sprint format. Pace becomes a genuine factor, and stamina will be tested more meaningfully than in any previous race on the card. Smarty's Back (POST 5) at 2-1 and Maggies Mission (POST 1) at 3-1 are clearly the two horses that handicappers have separated from a field of eight. Cinco Blake (POST 7) at 4-1 rounds out the top three in the market. The presence of longer-distance types from trainers like Tom Gavin, Carlos Turrubiartes, and Steve Roubion suggests a legitimate route race with genuine pace dynamics.

Key Contenders

Smarty's Back (POST 5) at 2-1, trained by Tom Gavin and ridden by Alejandro Medina, is the morning line choice. Gavin is a seasoned conditioner who specializes in longer distance horses and is respected at the Texas regional level for preparing routes horses. Post 5 in a route maiden race is central and comfortable, giving Medina options to track or press. At 2-1 the price is firm and likely to shorten further by post time.

Maggies Mission (POST 1) at 3-1 for Carlos Turrubiartes and Aniceto Gomez draws the rail in a seven-plus-furlong maiden claimer. The inside post in a route race is genuinely advantageous at GIL — saved ground throughout the run is meaningful at this distance. Turrubiartes is active at this meet and Gomez has multiple mounts today. At 3-1, Maggies Mission (POST 1) is the main danger to the favorite.

Secondary Choices

Cinco Blake (POST 7) at 4-1 for Eric W. Schneider and Ramirez Jr. Jr. is the third choice in the market. Schneider also trains Champagne Stooper (POST 4) in Race 8, suggesting an active barn today. Ramirez Jr. Jr. has been one of the busier jockeys on the card, and at 4-1 Cinco Blake (POST 7) represents fair value in a route maiden claimer.

Chief Brown (POST 6) at 5-1 for Steve Roubion and Victor Manuel Urieta Jr. is a strong secondary selection. Roubion also trains the Race 4 favorite I Tiz Divine (POST 3), giving the barn a big afternoon if both fire. Urieta Jr. continues to collect prime stakes and feature mounts, and from post 6 Chief Brown (POST 6) has a clean path to the rail through the early stages of the run.

LIL BIT UNBRIDLED (POST 8) at 6-1 for J.R. Caldwell and Rene Diaz is worth noting. Caldwell enters three horses in Race 8 and is clearly the dominant trainer on the back side of today's card. If Caldwell is confident enough to run LIL BIT UNBRIDLED (POST 8) in the maiden claimer ahead of his Race 8 runners, this horse has likely been prepared with care.

Longshots

Wanna Rock (POST 4) at 10-1 for Danny Pish and Luis L. Vivanco is a fourth-tier selection that could hit the board at a price in an exotic. Pish runs multiple horses today including in Race 8.

Slappy (POST 2) at 15-1 for Cleto Martinez Jr. and Diego Contreras is a horse Contreras has accepted a booking on at a long price, which is mildly encouraging for exotic coverage.

Carry The Flag (POST 3) at 20-1 for Dale A. Swift and Eliazar T. Vera is the longest price on the board and a realistic superfecta inclusion only.

Selections

Win: Smarty's Back (POST 5) Place: Maggies Mission (POST 1) Show: Chief Brown (POST 6)

Wagering strategy: In the route maiden claimer, pace dynamics can produce surprise finishers. Box an exacta covering Smarty's Back (POST 5), Maggies Mission (POST 1), and Cinco Blake (POST 7). Trifecta key: Smarty's Back (POST 5) and Maggies Mission (POST 1) on top over Cinco Blake (POST 7) and Chief Brown (POST 6) in the middle with LIL BIT UNBRIDLED (POST 8) and Wanna Rock (POST 4) completing the bottom. At 4-1, Cinco Blake (POST 7) is a strong win-bet alternative to the short-priced top two.

RACE 8 — Post 4:55 — 1320f | D | N | TexTbBrdrs35k | BUN | Purse $35,000

Pace Analysis

The $35,000 Texas Thoroughbred Breeders stakes closes the card with the richest purse of the afternoon and a full one-mile distance. J.R. Caldwell saddles three runners in this race — Too Much Action (POST 7), Berry Mischievous (POST 6), and Bobby Brinkley (POST 2) — making Caldwell the de facto powerhouse trainer in the closing stakes. The morning line installs Too Much Action (POST 7) at 2-1 as the clear choice, with Berry Mischievous (POST 6) at 4-1 as the second Caldwell runner of consequence and Bobby Brinkley (POST 2) at 3-1 as the public's second choice. The pace scenario at one mile will be shaped by whether the speed horses Jolly Samurai (POST 8) or Painted Lad (POST 5) set a legitimate tempo, or whether the Caldwell trio controls the early fractions.

Key Contenders

Too Much Action (POST 7) at 2-1 for J.R. Caldwell and Rene Diaz is the morning line favorite and the most straightforward selection on the card. Caldwell's decision to keep his best jockey booking — Diaz — on this runner over his two stablemates signals that Too Much Action (POST 7) is the primary Caldwell horse. From post 7 in a one-mile stakes, the horse has room to position without early traffic pressure. The 2-1 price will likely be below 2-1 by post time given the stakes attention.

Bobby Brinkley (POST 2) at 3-1 for Caldwell and Victor Manuel Urieta Jr. is the second Caldwell horse with a legitimate win chance. Urieta Jr. taking the mount on Bobby Brinkley (POST 2) rather than the 2-1 choice is an interesting split — Caldwell clearly views this horse as a genuine contender, not just a pace factor. Post 2 is excellent in a one-mile stakes, saving ground throughout the trip. If Too Much Action (POST 7) draws extra traffic from outside runners, Bobby Brinkley (POST 2) slipping along the rail could steal the race.

Secondary Choices

Berry Mischievous (POST 6) at 4-1 for Caldwell and Adrian X. Morales rounds out the three-pronged Caldwell attack. Morales is the third choice among the three jockeys assigned to Caldwell's horses, suggesting Berry Mischievous (POST 6) is the secondary stable option. However, in a three-horse barn entry, Caldwell horses can collapse the field — if Too Much Action (POST 7) and Bobby Brinkley (POST 2) set up the pace, Berry Mischievous (POST 6) could inherit the lead late.

Jolly Samurai (POST 8) at 6-1 for Danny Pish and Luis L. Vivanco is the most interesting non-Caldwell runner in the race. Pish has been active all day and Jolly Samurai (POST 8) from post 8 could establish early pace in a one-mile stakes and present a genuine early challenge. At 6-1, a Pish winner in the closing stakes would pay decently.

Longshots

Team Gormley (POST 1) at 8-1 for Danny Pish and Alejandro Medina gives Pish a two-pronged attack in the closing stakes — Team Gormley (POST 1) from the inside and Jolly Samurai (POST 8) from the outside. If Pish has his horses sharp, one of them could hit the board and provide value.

Painted Lad (POST 5) at 8-1 for Fortunato Sanchez-Pozos and Eliazar T. Vera is a capable longshot with a solid jockey. Vera has collected strong mounts throughout the afternoon and a stakes finish at 8-1 would cap a productive day.

Lil Sweet Thang (POST 3) at 12-1 for Jonathon Boxie and Ramirez Jr. Jr. and Champagne Stooper (POST 4) at 15-1 for Eric W. Schneider and Luis A. Huaman are realistic trifecta and superfecta fillers. Schneider's presence in both Race 7 and Race 8 suggests an active double-race day, but Champagne Stooper (POST 4) at 15-1 is outgunned by the Caldwell stable.

Selections

Win: Too Much Action (POST 7) Place: Bobby Brinkley (POST 2) Show: Jolly Samurai (POST 8)

Wagering strategy: The closing stakes with a three-horse stable entry is a scenario that rewards structured exotic play over straight betting. An exacta box covering the three Caldwell horses — Too Much Action (POST 7), Bobby Brinkley (POST 2), and Berry Mischievous (POST 6) — captures the most likely outcome. However, to include value, add Jolly Samurai (POST 8) to the trifecta bottom as the non-Caldwell horse most likely to secure a piece. The ideal trifecta play: Too Much Action (POST 7) and Bobby Brinkley (POST 2) on top over Berry Mischievous (POST 6) and Jolly Samurai (POST 8) in the middle with Team Gormley (POST 1) and Painted Lad (POST 5) completing the bottom.

Jockey Notes and Insights

Victor Manuel Urieta Jr. is the leading rider on today's card by number of mounts and quality of assignments. He rides in Races 1 (EAGLE DESIRE, POST 7), 3 (ELEGANT PRIZE, POST 10), 4 (I TIZ DIVINE, POST 3), 5 (LITTLE LEE, POST 1), 6 (I DO NOT RECALL, POST 7), 7 (CHIEF BROWN, POST 6), and 8 (BOBBY BRINKLEY, POST 2). This is a remarkable card-long presence. When a jockey is booked this heavily at a regional meet, it indicates trainer confidence across multiple barns and is a meaningful handicapping signal. Urieta Jr. rides morning line favorites or second choices in Races 3, 4, 7, and 8, and accepting a stakes mount in Race 6 at 8-1 on I Do Not Recall (POST 7) suggests more confidence in that runner than the morning line reflects.

Diego Contreras rides in Races 1 (COWGIRL LYNDI G, POST 2), 2 (JR SEPARATIST, POST 4), 4 (TEXANO HERO, POST 8), 5 (ALLA TE ESPERO MR, POST 6), 6 (MISS NELY, POST 4), 7 (SLAPPY, POST 2), and 8 is not listed for Contreras. His best opportunities are Jr Separatist (POST 4) in Race 2 and Alla Te Espero Mr (POST 6) in Race 5, where he rides for trainer Joe Uriegas, his primary book. When Contreras and Uriegas connect, the combination demands respect regardless of price.

Eliazar T. Vera rides throughout the card for multiple trainers and is perhaps the most versatile rider on the grounds today. His Race 5 mount Holiday Lines (POST 4) and Race 8 mount Painted Lad (POST 5) are both worth watching as potential overlay value.

Ramirez Jr. Jr. appears to be the fourth leading rider today, with mounts in Race 2, 4, 6, 7, and 8. His Race 8 booking on Lil Sweet Thang (POST 3) at 12-1 is a pass, but his engagement on La Cholula (POST 10) in the Race 6 stakes is worth following given the quality of that runner.

Trainer Notes and Insights

Joe Uriegas is the dominant trainer on today's card with five runners entered across the racing program. In Race 1, Bella C (POST 10); Race 2, Jr Separatist (POST 4); Race 4, Texano Hero (POST 8); Race 5, Holiday Lines (POST 4) and Alla Te Espero Mr (POST 6). The dual entry in Race 5 is the most strategically interesting pattern. When Uriegas runs two horses in the same race at the claiming level, his choice of jockey signals which runner gets the primary focus. Diego Contreras on Alla Te Espero Mr (POST 6) versus Eliazar T. Vera on Holiday Lines (POST 4) suggests Alla Te Espero Mr (POST 6) is the stable's leading choice.

J.R. Caldwell controls Race 8 with three horses: Too Much Action (POST 7), Berry Mischievous (POST 6), and Bobby Brinkley (POST 2). With Rene Diaz on Too Much Action (POST 7), Victor Manuel Urieta Jr. on Bobby Brinkley (POST 2), and Adrian X. Morales on Berry Mischievous (POST 6), Caldwell has deployed his A-team for the card's richest race. If one of the top-priced riders wins the race on a Caldwell horse, the other two Caldwell runners almost certainly collect a share of the purse. Caldwell's stable is clearly the center of gravity in today's closing stakes.

Danny Pish runs four horses today: Harvey's Love (POST 2) in Race 4, Wanna Rock (POST 4) in Race 7, Team Gormley (POST 1) in Race 8, and Jolly Samurai (POST 8) in Race 8. The double entry in Race 8 parallels the Caldwell pattern, and between Team Gormley (POST 1) and Jolly Samurai (POST 8), the public should watch for signs of morning workouts or barn activity that signal Pish's primary focus.

Carlos B. Sanchez runs three times today — Bolting Thru Fire (POST 1) in Race 1, Krashotoole (POST 5) in Race 2, and Streakin Jess Flair (POST 4) in Race 3 — all paired with jockey Eleazar Rivera Hernandez in the sprint races. This is a classic regional trainer pattern of targeting the early sprint card with his preferred rider. If Sanchez and Rivera Hernandez connect early in the day, the momentum is worth tracking.

Jimmy Guerra Jr. entries in Races 1, 2, and 3 also follow the sprint-heavy pattern, with Eagle Desire (POST 7), Fast Chilitos (POST 7), and Our Favorite Cowboy (POST 8) all in the opening sprint sequence. Victor Manuel Urieta Jr. rides Fast Chilitos (POST 7) in Race 2 and Our Favorite Cowboy (POST 8) in Race 3 for Guerra Jr., then switches to other barns for the feature races. This jockey-trainer combination in consecutive races is worth monitoring.

Best Wagering Strategies and Value Plays

The single most attractive card-long wager is a Pick 4 constructed around the four strongest individual race conclusions of the afternoon. The sequence of Races 5 through 8 offers both defined favorites and meaningful value alternatives.

In the Pick 4 covering Races 5 through 8, anchor with Blinknumissit (POST 7) in Race 5, use a saver with Alla Te Espero Mr (POST 6) as a secondary key. In Race 6, spread across Vp Dash For Texas (POST 5), Just An Eagle (POST 3), and La Cholula (POST 10) given the competitive stakes field. In Race 7, single Smarty's Back (POST 5) or use Smarty's Back (POST 5) with Maggies Mission (POST 1). Close the sequence in Race 8 with Too Much Action (POST 7) and Bobby Brinkley (POST 2). This ticket structure — one horse in Race 5, three in Race 6, two in Race 7, two in Race 8 — creates a 12-combination Pick 4 that covers the most likely outcomes while including realistic value.

The best single-race value play on the card is Bobby Brinkley (POST 2) to win in Race 8. At 3-1 with Victor Manuel Urieta Jr. aboard and the inside post advantage in a one-mile Thoroughbred stakes, the horse is attractively priced relative to stablemate Too Much Action (POST 7). If Caldwell's barn fires, Bobby Brinkley (POST 2) could easily be the one to catch first.

In the stakes sprint of Race 6, I Do Not Recall (POST 7) at 8-1 with Urieta Jr. is the best overlay play of the afternoon. A jockey of Urieta Jr.'s card-level dominance accepting a stakes mount at 8-1 is a flag that the horse may be better than its morning line suggests. A small win bet and exacta coverage using I Do Not Recall (POST 7) underneath Vp Dash For Texas (POST 5) and La Cholula (POST 10) is an excellent value-oriented play.

For the sprint sequence of Races 1 through 3, the best three-race Pick 3 coverage is: Jmg Oak Dulce (POST 4) or Bolting Thru Fire (POST 1) in Race 1 over Fast Chilitos (POST 7) or Krashotoole (POST 5) in Race 2 over Elegant Prize (POST 10) or Azooms Goldeye (POST 6) in Race 3. This four-combination Pick 3 is affordable and covers the most defensible outcomes across the opening sprint card.

The day's best trifecta play remains Race 8, where three Caldwell runners could fill the ticket but paying the full exacta box on all three plus a non-Caldwell runner like Jolly Samurai (POST 8) creates meaningful upside if the closing stakes produces a surprise. A $1 trifecta box covering Too Much Action (POST 7), Bobby Brinkley (POST 2), Berry Mischievous (POST 6), and Jolly Samurai (POST 8) runs 24 combinations and could return substantial value if any non-Caldwell horse sneaks into the frame.
