Track Surface & Bias

The dirt (D) surface at HCN is expected to play fair to mildly speed-favoring, with a slight historical lean toward front-runners and pace-pressers securing an advantage if the track remains dry and tightly packed. Under typical mid-summer conditions, the main track tends to reward horses that can secure position early and maintain momentum, while deep closers often need an above-average pace meltdown to get involved.

Inside-to-mid posts are generally preferred on the dirt, as saving ground around the turns and avoiding wide trips has historically produced better outcomes than outside, wide-launching trips.
