Del Mar is expected to play fast on dirt and firm on turf under its typical summer-meet profile, with little weather pressure to change the base condition. On the dirt (D), that usually means an edge to early speed and inside-to-middle posts, especially in sprints where horses can clear or secure a stalking trip without losing ground.
On the turf (T), the more reliable pattern is an advantage for tactical stalkers and well-timed closers who can sit within striking range and produce a measured run late. Deep, one-run closers are more pace-dependent, while wider trips are generally less efficient than ground-saving paths from inside or mid draws.

Build tickets around horses with positional speed on dirt and tactical stamina on turf. At Del Mar, trip efficiency matters: runners that can save ground, maintain contact, and avoid wide turns are usually better bets than horses requiring a perfect pace meltdown.
