Race Day Overview — Presque Isle Downs, Wednesday August 5, 2026

Presque Isle Downs returns for another mid-week card featuring eight races on the main dirt track, with post times beginning at 3:30 p.m. EDT. The card is a mixed bag of maiden claimers, open claimers, and allowance company, capped by a $33,000 allowance going a mile and three-sixteenths and the feature $31,000 maiden special weight sprint. This is a workmanlike Wednesday card at a track that has been generating consistent handle and sharp local competition throughout the summer meet.

The backdrop to today's racing includes the ongoing Churchill Downs Inc. corporate news that broke last week, with CDI announcing plans to potentially sell nine casino properties, including Presque Isle Downs. The news rattled CDI stock significantly, sending shares to their lowest levels in six years. While the racing operation continues uninterrupted and horsemen have not reported any changes to purse structures or race conditions, the long-term ownership picture at this venue remains uncertain. For bettors and horsemen, it is business as usual today, and the meet has continued to run smoothly under current management.

Monday's Satin And Lace Stakes Day card at the track produced sharp performances across the board, and handicapper Chance Rains correctly identified the winner Lost And Found in that feature. Several of the jockeys and trainers who performed well earlier this week return for today's card. Gaddiel A. Martinez is aboard in multiple races and enters the day in strong current form. The Ron G. Potts Jr. barn, which had two runners in Race 1 on Monday's card and continued producing, ships in a pair again today. Keep a close eye on trainer angles across the card, as several barns are firing live runners.

Weather and Track Conditions

Erie, Pennsylvania, sits along the Lake Erie shoreline, and August weather at Presque Isle Downs is typically warm and humid. For Wednesday, August 5, 2026, the Erie area forecast calls for partly cloudy to mostly cloudy skies with temperatures in the mid-to-upper 70s Fahrenheit at post time for the first race, climbing to near 80 degrees by mid-afternoon. There is a chance of scattered afternoon thunderstorms developing, particularly in the 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. EDT window, which could affect the later portion of the card. Track maintenance crews will be monitoring conditions closely.

The main track at Presque Isle Downs has been listed as fast for recent cards. Given the potential for afternoon precipitation, bettors should watch the official track condition reports as post time approaches, as any significant rainfall could shift the surface to good or sloppy conditions. The track at PID has a reputation for playing reasonably fair when fast, though the inside often holds a slight advantage in longer routes. If the surface gets wet, horses with prior wet-track form or those bred for off-track conditions move up considerably.

Track Bias and Post Position Analysis

Presque Isle Downs is a five-eighths-mile oval. On the main dirt surface during recent weeks of the summer meet, the track has shown a modest inside bias in routes, with horses able to get a clean early position along the rail holding a slight tactical edge. In sprints, early speed from inside posts has been advantageous, though the track does not excessively favor speed to the degree seen at some other tight ovals. Middle posts in sprints — posts three through five — have been performing well, and closers with enough pace to exploit are not completely shut out.

Post position becomes especially relevant in the two-turn routes on today's card, specifically Races 3, 6, and 7. In those races, horses breaking from the inside have a shorter run to the first turn and can settle into position without expending early energy. Outside posts in routes require wider runs and extra ground, which is a tax on stamina at any level. In the maiden routes on today's card, bettors should factor in post position as a secondary but meaningful variable when separating evenly matched contenders.

For the sprints — Races 1, 2, 4, 5, and 8 — early speed from middle-to-inside posts has been a consistent source of winners during the current meet. That said, closers with legitimate figures are not to be discarded, particularly in the deeper fields where front-end horses may compromise each other.

RACE 1 — Post (3:30)/2:30/1:30/12:30 — 1830f | D | M | Md 7500 | BUM | Purse $14,000

This opening race sends a six-horse field of maiden claimers down the main track going approximately one mile and an eighth, a distance that will demand genuine stamina from this bottom-rung group. At the $7,500 maiden claiming level, the quality is modest, but there are clear differences in the entrants worth exploiting. The Ron G. Potts Jr. barn is well represented here with two runners, a sign that the trainer is actively looking to break horses' maidens at this condition.

Pace Analysis

With six horses entered and the distance extended to one mile and an eighth, early pace is unlikely to be frantic. This is a route for maiden claimers, and slow early fractions are the norm. Any horse that can establish a comfortable position and sustain a measured pace into the stretch will have an advantage. Starlit Sky (Post 5) and Lazy Y Legacy (Post 6) figure to be the early pace factors based on their morning line positioning as co-favorites. If either gets loose on the front, they may be very difficult to catch given the caliber of opposition.

Key Contenders

Starlit Sky (Post 5) is trained by Ron G. Potts Jr. and draws a favorable middle post for a route. Potts has been one of the more active trainers on the current PID meet, and he runs two horses in this opener. STARLIT SKY draws the 2-1 morning line co-favorite and figures to be used on or near the early pace. Israel O. Rodriguez gets the mount, a jockey who has been consistent throughout the summer meet. In a race at this modest level, the Potts barn's ability to condition horses for specific race conditions is a meaningful edge, and STARLIT SKY is the logical top choice.

Lazy Y Legacy (Post 6) shares the 2-1 morning line and comes out of the Aaron M. West barn with Oscar Villarreal in the irons. The outside post in this route is slightly less favorable than STARLIT SKY's post five draw, but at this level, class differences matter more than post position nuances. LAZY Y LEGACY figures as a genuine co-favorite and cannot be dismissed. Handicappers have pointed to this horse as a main rival to the Potts trainee.

Secondary Choices

Rewardann'swarrior (Post 1) is the other Potts runner in this field, breaking from the rail at 4-1. The inside post in a long route cuts down on early ground but also boxes a horse in if traffic develops. REWARDANN'SWARRIOR at 4-1 offers some value if the trainer decides to use this horse as a pace helper for the barn's other entry, though in maiden claiming events at this level, barns rarely sacrifice one runner for another. Both Potts horses are likely to run their own race.

Cole's Valentine (Post 4) trained by Ralph N. Baez with Rosario Montanez up shares the 4-1 morning line and breaks from a middle post. Baez is a steady presence at PID and keeps his stock in form. COLE'S VALENTINE has enough support to be considered a legitimate threat for the show spot at minimum.

Longshots

No Solution (Post 3) trained by Kevin Monday with Gaddiel A. Martinez up is priced at 8-1. The horse's name is admittedly amusing at this level, but Martinez is a live rider on any given day, and 8-1 represents fair value if the horse has been working well. English Indy (Post 2) out of the Randall Russell barn with David Delgado up is priced at 12-1 and is the longest shot on the board. At 12-1 in a six-horse field, ENGLISH INDY offers minimal exacta value unless there is a significant trainer or workout angle that elevates the horse above its price.

Betting Strategy

Use Starlit Sky (Post 5) on top in exactas with Lazy Y Legacy (Post 6) and Rewardann'swarrior (Post 1). In the trifecta, box those three or use Starlit Sky (Post 5) on top with Lazy Y Legacy (Post 6) and Cole's Valentine (Post 4) underneath.

Selections

Win: Starlit Sky (Post 5) Place: Lazy Y Legacy (Post 6) Show: Rewardann'swarrior (Post 1)

RACE 2 — Post (3:57)/2:57/1:57/12:57 — 1320f | D | M | Md 7500 | BUM | Purse $14,000

Seven runners enter this six-furlong sprint for maiden claimers, and it represents a deeper and more competitive field than the opener. The $7,500 maiden claiming level remains at the bottom of the condition scale, but there are legitimate pace questions here with multiple speed horses in the gate.

Pace Analysis

This field is notably more pace-heated than Race 1. Hot Gamer (Post 3), Foggy Bar Blues (Post 2), and Cats Gone Estray (Post 7) all figure to want to be involved early based on their connections and morning line positioning. If multiple horses contest the early fractions in a six-furlong dirt sprint, the pace could set up beautifully for a closer. Thy Name Is Woman (Post 4) and Hawkeyejet (Post 6) may be the beneficiaries if the speed horses burn each other up.

Key Contenders

Hot Gamer (Post 3) is trained by Ron G. Potts Jr., who already saddles two horses in Race 1 and keeps his hot hand going with this runner. At 2-1 on the morning line, HOT GAMER is the betting favorite and gets Gaddiel A. Martinez, who is the most in-form rider on this card. The middle post in a six-furlong sprint is advantageous, and Martinez's ability to find a spot just off the early pace and pounce in the stretch is well documented at this track. This is a straightforward play.

Cats Gone Estray (Post 7) trained by John Guciardo is co-listed at 2-1 on the morning line and represents the outside post speed concern. H. Villa-Gomez takes the mount. At 2-1 from post seven in a six-furlong sprint, CATS GONE ESTRAY will need to work hard to clear to the front, which costs energy. However, if this horse has legitimate speed figures, the outside post is manageable in a sprint. Guciardo occasionally sneaks a live runner into these fields, and the shared morning line favorite status suggests tote action will sort these two out.

Secondary Choices

Foggy Bar Blues (Post 2) exits the Randall Russell barn with Carlos Barbosa up and is priced at 4-1. Russell has been active on this meet, and the inside-to-post-two draw in a sprint is workable. FOGGY BAR BLUES could be forwardly placed and may contest the early lead, making this horse relevant in pace-dependent scenarios.

Thy Name Is Woman (Post 4) out of the John Fennessy barn with Walber Alencar is at 4-1. Fennessy is another trainer with multiple entries on today's card, and this runner occupies a favorable middle post. If the pace heats up between the speed horses, THY NAME IS WOMAN could rally into a placing.

Longshots

Hawkeyejet (Post 6) trained by Lawrence Antus with Ciera Pruitt up is listed at 8-1 and merits attention. Pruitt is a competent rider and Antus has sent out live longshots on this meet before. At 8-1 in a seven-horse field, HAWKEYEJET makes sense as a trifecta inclusion. Dyna Mo Tastic (Post 5) trained by Rory Barron with Alex Gonzalez up is 15-1 and figures to be a major longshot in betting. Citizens Queen (Post 1) trained by Carol A. Skawinski with Allen M. up is also 15-1 from the rail. Neither of these horses projects as a serious win contender, but in a chaotic pace scenario, anything can happen at this level.

Betting Strategy

Hot Gamer (Post 3) over Cats Gone Estray (Post 7) is the primary exacta play. In the trifecta, include Thy Name Is Woman (Post 4) and Foggy Bar Blues (Post 2) as key underneath choices. Hawkeyejet (Post 6) is a worthwhile trifecta saver at 8-1.

Selections

Win: Hot Gamer (Post 3) Place: Cats Gone Estray (Post 7) Show: Thy Name Is Woman (Post 4)

RACE 3 — Post (4:24)/3:24/2:24/1:24 — 1430f | D | C | Clm 25000b | BUN | Purse $22,000

Five older horses compete in this $25,000 claiming route going approximately one mile and three-sixteenths. This is the highest-claiming price on the card and represents genuine class. With only five runners, the field is tight and every horse must be evaluated carefully.

Pace Analysis

Five-horse claiming fields at this level typically feature measured early fractions, as jockeys are mindful of setting up their horses for the stretch run in a longer route. Braggart Joe (Post 5), the morning line favorite at 2-1, is the horse most likely to dictate terms based on his connections. The five-horse short field means there is less early speed pressure, and a pace-setter who can control fractions without being pressured may be nearly unbeatable.

Key Contenders

Braggart Joe (Post 5) trained by Scooter Davis with Antonio A. Gallardo up is the 2-1 morning line choice and occupies the outside post in a five-horse field going a route. Davis is a capable trainer at PID, and Gallardo is reliable in route races. From post five in a short field, BRAGGART JOE can settle into a comfortable spot and make one sustained run. At this claiming level, Davis typically has his horses fit and ready, and the morning line price reflects legitimate top-choice status.

Lets Get It On (Post 2) out of the J. Michael Rogers barn with Gaddiel A. Martinez up is 4-1. Rogers is a respected trainer at this claiming level, and Martinez gives the horse a significant riding edge. From post two in a route, LETS GET IT ON can get a clean trip and save ground on the turn. The Martinez factor alone makes this horse dangerous at 4-1.

Expresso Bay (Post 3) trained by Brandon L. Kulp with Taylor Kingsley up is also at 4-1. Kulp has been steadily competitive with his claimers this summer, and Kingsley has been improving her numbers at PID. This horse represents the third live option at the same price, making the exacta structure very appealing.

Secondary Choices

Fistfulofmoney (Post 4) trained by Kevin Rice with Carlos Barbosa up is listed at 4-1. Rice is one of the more active trainers on this card, with multiple starters across the day. At 4-1 with Barbosa up, FISTFULOFMONEY cannot be ignored in a five-horse field where every runner theoretically has a path to the winner's circle.

Longshots

Ready Set Cairo (Post 1) trained by Michael C. Pappada with Israel O. Rodriguez up is 8-1. Pappada is another multiple-entry trainer today, and the rail post in a route is a double-edged draw. READY SET CAIRO at 8-1 is worth a small trifecta inclusion but is not a win contender on current morning line positioning.

Betting Strategy

Use Braggart Joe (Post 5) as the top choice but play the exacta broadly. With three horses at 4-1, this is a race built for exacta boxes or a trifecta using the top four with Ready Set Cairo (Post 1) as the shot in the show hole. A $1 trifecta box of Braggart Joe (Post 5), Lets Get It On (Post 2), and Expresso Bay (Post 3) is recommended.

Selections

Win: Braggart Joe (Post 5) Place: Lets Get It On (Post 2) Show: Expresso Bay (Post 3)

RACE 4 — Post (4:51)/3:51/2:51/1:51 — 1320f | D | C | Clm 5000b | BUM | Purse $12,000

Six horses square off in this six-furlong sprint at the $5,000 claiming level, which is among the lowest claiming prices on the card. These are veteran campaigners who have seen better days, but this type of race can still produce sharp betting opportunities when the right trainer and jockey angle aligns.

Pace Analysis

Multiple horses in this field have demonstrated front-running tendencies. The six-furlong distance favors early speed, and with cheap claimers, the pace often gets away from the field quickly only to collapse in the stretch. Sparkling Silver (Post 4) is the 3-1 morning line choice and likely to be on or near the lead. Whether the early fractions are honest or slow will determine whether a closer can get involved.

Key Contenders

Sparkling Silver (Post 4) trained by John Fennessy with Allen M. up is the 3-1 morning line chalk. Fennessy enters multiple horses on today's card and clearly has his stable in good working order. The middle post is ideal for a six-furlong sprint, and Allen M. has ridden consistently for the barn. SPARKLING SILVER at 3-1 is a legitimate top choice in this modest company.

Cherokee Chatter (Post 1) trained by Cathy Carr-Rozantz with Gaddiel A. Martinez up is 4-1 from the rail. The inside post in a sprint can be a speed horse's best friend if the horse breaks sharply and clears to a comfortable lead. Martinez is the card's most in-demand jock today, and Carr-Rozantz is a trainer who conditions horses for specific race conditions. This is a legitimate threat to the favorite.

Secondary Choices

Miss M M (Post 2) trained by Moises Valdez with Walber Alencar up is 4-1. Valdez runs two horses on today's card in this same race — Miss M M (Post 2) and Waterloo Sunset (Post 3) — which is an interesting trainer angle. When a trainer doubles up in the same race, the question of which horse is the “main” runner always surfaces. At 4-1 versus 8-1, MISS M M appears to be the barn's primary hope.

Shorty Mac (Post 6) trained by Ralph N. Baez with Addiel J. Ayala up is 4-1. Baez has been active on this meet and keeps horses competitive even at the bottom claiming levels. The outside post is not ideal in a sprint, but SHORTY MAC at 4-1 is worth including in exotics.

Longshots

Waterloo Sunset (Post 3) is the second Valdez runner at 8-1 and could be a pace factor from post three. At 8-1 in a six-horse field, this horse offers trifecta value if the barn's inside runner gets into trouble. Rainbow Ship (Post 5) trained by Richard L. Genovese with H. Villa-Gomez up is 8-1 and is the other price horse in this field. At the $5,000 level, any horse with a motivated rider and fresh legs is capable of surprising.

Betting Strategy

Lean toward Sparkling Silver (Post 4) to win, but use Cherokee Chatter (Post 1) across in exactas. At this level, trifecta boxes are affordable and recommended. A $1 box of Sparkling Silver (Post 4), Cherokee Chatter (Post 1), and Shorty Mac (Post 6) covers the three most likely price points.

Selections

Win: Sparkling Silver (Post 4) Place: Cherokee Chatter (Post 1) Show: Shorty Mac (Post 6)

RACE 5 — Post (5:18)/4:18/3:18/2:18 — 1320f | D | S | Md Sp Wt | BUN | Purse $31,000

This six-furlong maiden special weight for fillies and mares represents the best-quality sprint on the card. The $31,000 purse draws a competitive six-horse field, and maiden special weight runners at this level can be legitimately talented horses on the way up. This race deserves more analytical attention than the maiden claiming events on the undercard.

Pace Analysis

War Profiteer (Post 5) is the 2-1 morning line chalk and figures to be the dominant pace factor. Sticktotheplanman (Post 1) at 3-1 could pressure the favorite from the inside if the horse is forwardly run. If these two lock into a duel through the early fractions, it sets the table for Loan Me A Dime (Post 2) or Lee The Cabby (Post 4) to close from just off the pace. The pace shape of this race is the critical handicapping question.

Key Contenders

War Profiteer (Post 5) trained by Scooter Davis with Antonio A. Gallardo up is the 2-1 morning line favorite. Davis has been live with his maiden special weight runners throughout this meet, and Gallardo is a competent rider who handles both pace setters and closers effectively. From post five in a six-horse sprint, WAR PROFITEER can find a comfortable position and use natural ability to dominate this field. This is the race's top selection.

Sticktotheplanman (Post 1) trained by Michael C. Pappada with Rosario Montanez up is 3-1 from the rail. Pappada is one of the more active trainers on today's card, entering horses in multiple races. Montanez provides capable guidance from the inside post, and in a maiden special weight sprint, the rail draw can be used aggressively to secure an early lead. This is the main threat to War Profiteer (Post 5).

Secondary Choices

Loan Me A Dime (Post 2) out of the Ron G. Potts Jr. barn with H. Villa-Gomez up is 4-1. Potts is clearly the hot trainer of the current meet with multiple live starters across the card, and LOAN ME A DIME represents his best runner in the highest-quality sprint of the day. At 4-1, this horse offers value if Potts has the horse firing. Villa-Gomez is a reliable partner for this barn.

Lee The Cabby (Post 4) trained by Kevin Rice with Gaddiel A. Martinez up is also 4-1. Rice is another multiple-entry trainer on this card, and having Martinez up on any horse in any race at PID right now is an immediate upgrade. At 4-1 in the best sprint of the card, LEE THE CABBY deserves serious consideration. Martinez's ability to rate a horse and find a clean trip from post four in a six-horse sprint is precisely the type of tactical ride that wins maiden special weight races.

Longshots

Fuoco (Post 6) trained by Thomas Jude Farone with Taylor Kingsley up is 7-1. In a six-horse maiden special weight sprint, 7-1 represents legitimate overlay territory if this horse has been working well. Kingsley has been improving steadily this summer at PID, and a morning line of 7-1 still implies a meaningful chance. So Grand (Post 3) trained by Scooter Davis with Israel O. Rodriguez up is 10-1. Davis doubles up in this race with So Grand (Post 3) and War Profiteer (Post 5), and the 10-1 price on SO GRAND suggests it is the secondary barn runner. That said, Rodriguez is a capable jockey, and 10-1 in a six-horse field is always worth a trifecta flier.

Betting Strategy

War Profiteer (Post 5) to win, with Sticktotheplanman (Post 1) and Lee The Cabby (Post 4) covering in exacta. The trifecta using War Profiteer (Post 5) on top over Sticktotheplanman (Post 1), Lee The Cabby (Post 4), and Loan Me A Dime (Post 2) is the recommended structure. Fuoco (Post 6) at 7-1 is a viable trifecta saver in a race where one front-runner may falter.

Selections

Win: War Profiteer (Post 5) Place: Lee The Cabby (Post 4) Show: Sticktotheplanman (Post 1)

RACE 6 — Post (5:45)/4:45/3:45/2:45 — 1830f | D | C | Clm 5000b | BUN | Purse $14,000

Seven horses go a route of ground at the $5,000 claiming level, and this is one of the trickiest races on the card. The extended distance in cheap claiming company produces a wide range of outcomes. Horses that have demonstrated willingness to sustain a run over a longer trip are critical to identify here.

Pace Analysis

Maynard (Post 5) is the 2-1 morning line favorite and likely to be the dominant force in this route. Del Rayo (Post 1) at 3-1 represents the main pace competition from the inside post. If these two hook up early over the long route, closers such as Drunkle (Post 3) and Drunk On Sake (Post 4) could be setting up for late runs. The two-turn distance favors horses who can settle and sustain, not horses who burn early energy securing the lead.

Key Contenders

Maynard (Post 5) trained by Ralph N. Baez with Rosario Montanez up is the 2-1 chalk and gets a favorable post for a two-turn route. Baez has multiple runners today, and his horses have been consistent in claiming company throughout the summer. Montanez is a competent route jockey, and the middle post five draw allows MAYNARD to settle early before committing to a run. At 2-1 this is the horse to beat.

Del Rayo (Post 1) trained by John Fennessy with Walber Alencar up is 3-1 from the rail. Fennessy has multiple runners today and enters DEL RAYO alongside stablemate R Admiral (Post 2). The Fennessy barn clearly has a strong opinion about this race to double up, and DEL RAYO at 3-1 from post one can hug the rail and save significant ground in a route. This is the morning line's second choice and a legitimate threat to MAYNARD.

Secondary Choices

Drunkle (Post 3) trained by Kevin Rice with Carlos Barbosa up is 4-1. Rice has multiple entries today, and DRUNKLE represents his route horse in this field. The post three draw is workable in a seven-horse route, and Barbosa is capable of stalking the pace and pouncing in the stretch. At 4-1, DRUNKLE is a live secondary choice.

Drunk On Sake (Post 4) trained by Scooter Davis with Israel O. Rodriguez up is 4-1. The coincidental adjacency of Drunkle (Post 3) and Drunk On Sake (Post 4) in the gate makes for an amusing pairing. Davis has WAR PROFITEER in Race 5 and DRUNK ON SAKE here, demonstrating the barn's busy schedule. Rodriguez is capable, and middle posts in routes tend to produce clean trips.

Longshots

R Admiral (Post 2) is the second Fennessy runner at 6-1. Being part of a barn that is doubling up is a positive sign, and if Del Rayo (Post 1) draws the early pressure, R Admiral (Post 2) could benefit from a clean trip just to the outside of the pace battle. At 6-1, R ADMIRAL is worth including in trifectas. Camilo (Post 6) trained by Katy Cheeks with Antonio A. Gallardo up is 8-1 and represents an interesting longshot angle. Cheeks is not a high-volume trainer, which sometimes means entries are well-spotted. Smokin' Hot (Post 7) trained by Michael C. Pappada with Gaddiel A. Martinez up is 12-1 and cannot be completely dismissed with Martinez in the irons, even at that price in a route. In a seven-horse claiming route at $5,000, anything can happen in the stretch.

Betting Strategy

Use Maynard (Post 5) as the key, with Del Rayo (Post 1) as the main exacta partner. In trifectas, use Drunkle (Post 3) and R Admiral (Post 2) as versatile underneath choices. Camilo (Post 6) at 8-1 is the trifecta saver.

Selections

Win: Maynard (Post 5) Place: Del Rayo (Post 1) Show: Drunkle (Post 3)

RACE 7 — Post (6:12)/5:12/4:12/3:12 — 1430f | D | A | Alw 33000n1x | BUN | Purse $33,000

Eight horses compete in this $33,000 allowance at one mile and three-sixteenths, making it the card's marquee event. The n1x condition means these horses have not won a race other than maiden or claiming, so they are non-winners of one allowance race at any time. This is a quality field by PID standards, and the allowance level is a genuine test. The two-turn route will separate horses with true stamina from those who were beneficiaries of soft pace in shorter races.

Pace Analysis

With eight horses going a two-turn route, the pace is expected to be moderate to honest. Thorn Of Hearts (Post 6) is the 3-1 morning line choice and likely represents the class of the field. City Tripper (Post 1) and Lord Of Mischief (Post 5) at 4-1 each figure to be involved in the early running. Runningforjoy (Post 7) at 4-1 adds another legitimate mid-race threat. The pace dynamics of this race are complex, and horses drawn outside will need to work harder to find their preferred running position over the extended distance.

Key Contenders

Thorn Of Hearts (Post 6) trained by Michael C. Pappada with Carlos Barbosa up is the 3-1 morning line favorite. Pappada has been one of the most active trainers on today's card with multiple entries, and THORN OF HEARTS represents the barn's primary allowance runner. Post six in an eight-horse route is manageable, and Barbosa has demonstrated ability in allowance-level routes this summer. The morning line favorite status in the card's top race is well-earned. This is the top selection.

Lord Of Mischief (Post 5) trained by Cathy Carr-Rozantz with H. Villa-Gomez up is 4-1 from post five. Carr-Rozantz also has CHEROKEE CHATTER in Race 4 and City Tripper (Post 1) in this same race, giving the trainer significant representation in the card's feature. LORD OF MISCHIEF at 4-1 from a comfortable middle post gets Villa-Gomez, who has been active for multiple barns today. This horse must be respected as one of the primary dangers to the chalk.

Runningforjoy (Post 7) trained by Leland Hayes with Gaddiel A. Martinez up is 4-1. Martinez is simply the best rider available at PID today and gets a mount in the card's top race. Hayes is not a high-volume trainer, which often means entries are selectively placed in races the barn believes it can win. The combination of Martinez and a selectively entered horse from a smaller barn is a classic winning angle. Runningforjoy (Post 7) is a serious threat and may be the best value at 4-1 in this race.

Secondary Choices

City Tripper (Post 1) trained by Rory Barron with Taylor Kingsley up is 4-1 from the inside post. The rail in a two-turn route at PID has shown a modest bias edge, and Barron is a capable trainer at this level. CITY TRIPPER is part of the cluster of 4-1 horses that makes this race highly competitive for exotic wagering.

Via Della Spiga (Post 8) trained by Adam Rice with Antonio A. Gallardo up is 6-1. Rice is another trainer with multiple entries today, and this horse draws the outside post in a long route. The ground lost from post eight in a two-turn route is significant, but at 6-1 with Gallardo in the irons, VIA DELLA SPIGA is live for a placing if the race is run at a slow early pace that allows the field to compress on the far turn.

Longshots

Frosty Beer (Post 3) trained by Pavel Matejka with Israel O. Rodriguez up is 8-1. Matejka is not among the higher-volume trainers on this card, but Rodriguez is competent and this horse's post three draw is workable in a route. At 8-1, FROSTY BEER is worth a trifecta inclusion. Stanz Coming (Post 2) trained by J. Michael Rogers with Victor Severino up is 12-1. Rogers also saddles LETS GET IT ON in Race 3, and the 12-1 price on STANZ COMING suggests this is a secondary runner for the barn. Wicked Genius (Post 4) trained by John Fennessy with Allen M. up is also 12-1. Fennessy has multiple entries today, and WICKED GENIUS at 12-1 in an eight-horse allowance field is the longest longshot worth a small saver bet in the fourth position of the trifecta.

Betting Strategy

This race is ideal for exotic wagering. The $33,000 purse and eight-horse field make the trifecta and superfecta highly attractive. Use Thorn Of Hearts (Post 6) as the top key, with Runningforjoy (Post 7), Lord Of Mischief (Post 5), and City Tripper (Post 1) as the primary underneath choices. In the trifecta, a $0.50 key of Thorn Of Hearts (Post 6) over those three underneath in any order is the recommended structure. Include Via Della Spiga (Post 8) as a wider saver.

Selections

Win: Thorn Of Hearts (Post 6) Place: Runningforjoy (Post 7) Show: Lord Of Mischief (Post 5)

RACE 8 — Post (6:39)/5:39/4:39/3:39 — 1830f | D | C | Clm 6250n2l | BUM | Purse $14,000

The card closes with an eight-horse claiming route at the $6,250 level for horses that have not won two races lifetime. The n2l condition is an important filter — these are horses with limited wins, which means the form is less established and the pace figures are sometimes unreliable. The longer route distance adds another layer of uncertainty, making this a race to approach carefully with small, well-constructed exotic plays.

Pace Analysis

Undergrad (Post 1) is the 3-1 morning line favorite, and the rail post in a route is a useful starting position. Channel Me In (Post 2) and Golden Dogecoin (Post 3) share the 4-1 price and figure to be in the early mix. With multiple horses wanting to settle early in a route, the pace should be measured, setting up a genuine stretch battle among horses with modest credentials. Collective Nation (Post 5) at 4-1 adds a fifth viable contender, making this one of the most wide-open races on the card.

Key Contenders

Undergrad (Post 1) trained by Adam Rice with Gaddiel A. Martinez up is the 3-1 morning line choice. Rice is extremely active on today's card, and pairing his top route horse with Martinez in the card's final race is a deliberate move. The rail post is an asset in a two-turn route, and Martinez will be able to dictate terms or track the early pace from an inside ground-saving position. This is the most logical top choice in a murky closing race.

Channel Me In (Post 2) trained by Justin R. Morrell with Carlos Barbosa up is 4-1 from post two. Morrell is a PID-based trainer with solid knowledge of local track conditions, and Barbosa has ridden well on this card. From post two, CHANNEL ME IN can sit just outside the rail horse and respond if Undergrad (Post 1) fades.

Golden Dogecoin (Post 3) trained by S. Matthew Kintz with H. Villa-Gomez up is 4-1. The horse's name will certainly generate attention in the paddock, and Kintz has the horse positioned at a competitive morning line price. From post three in an eight-horse route, GOLDEN DOGECOIN gets a clean early trip and Villa-Gomez is capable of rating a horse over the longer distance.

Secondary Choices

Collective Nation (Post 5) trained by Aldana Gonzalez with S. Spieth up is 4-1. Four horses sharing the 4-1 morning line makes Race 8 extremely competitive for exacta and trifecta wagering. Gonzalez is an active PID trainer and COLLECTIVE NATION at 4-1 from post five in a route is not to be overlooked. SPIETH has been competent this summer and this horse's middle post is useful.

My Angel Does (Post 6) trained by Alejandro Gomez with Allen M. up is 8-1. The 8-1 price in a field with so many evenly matched 4-1 horses suggests MY ANGEL DOES may be coming off a troubled trip or has shown inconsistent form, but at this level and distance, any horse with a capable rider and a motivated barn can produce a surprise.

Longshots

Floyness (Post 4) trained by J. Michael Rogers with David Delgado up is 10-1. Rogers has multiple entries today and FLOYNESS at 10-1 is likely the secondary barn runner. Dance On Air (Post 7) trained by Moises Valdez with Walber Alencar up is 12-1. Valdez also saddles Slainte Mhath (Post 8) in this same race, giving the trainer a double entry to close out the card. When a small barn doubles in the same route at this level, it often signals opportunistic placement rather than a pair of live runners. Slainte Mhath (Post 8) with Ciera Pruitt up at 12-1 is the second Valdez runner and offers minor trifecta value as a late closer from the outside post if the pace collapses.

Betting Strategy

Use Undergrad (Post 1) as the primary win horse, with Channel Me In (Post 2) and Golden Dogecoin (Post 3) covering in the exacta. The trifecta should include Collective Nation (Post 5) as a versatile underneath choice. My Angel Does (Post 6) at 8-1 is worth a small saver in the third spot.

Jockey Notes and Insights

Gaddiel A. Martinez is the standout rider on today's card, appearing in seven of the eight races. His mounts include No Solution (Post 3) in Race 1, Hot Gamer (Post 3) in Race 2, Lets Get It On (Post 2) in Race 3, Cherokee Chatter (Post 1) in Race 4, Lee The Cabby (Post 4) in Race 5, Runningforjoy (Post 7) in Race 7, and Undergrad (Post 1) in Race 8. The volume of quality mounts he receives from multiple top barns — including Rice, Rogers, Carr-Rozantz, and Hayes — confirms his status as the meet's leading or near-leading rider. When the top rider gets a live mount from a sharp trainer, that combination should carry significant weight in the analysis.

Carlos Barbosa is another active rider today, handling Foggy Bar Blues (Post 2) in Race 2, Fistfulofmoney (Post 4) in Race 3, Drunkle (Post 3) in Race 6, and Thorn Of Hearts (Post 6) in Race 7. The fact that Barbosa gets the call on Thorn Of Hearts (Post 6), the morning line favorite in the card's feature allowance, is a meaningful signal about the horse's readiness.

Israel O. Rodriguez rides Starlit Sky (Post 5) in Race 1, Ready Set Cairo (Post 1) in Race 3, So Grand (Post 3) in Race 5, Drunk On Sake (Post 4) in Race 6, and Frosty Beer (Post 3) in Race 7. The Potts barn clearly trusts Rodriguez with their best route horse in the opener, and his presence across multiple races gives him solid opportunities to produce winners throughout the card.

H. Villa-Gomez is active in Races 2, 4, 5, 7, and 8, with mounts including Cats Gone Estray (Post 7) in Race 2, Rainbow Ship (Post 5) in Race 4, Loan Me A Dime (Post 2) in Race 5, Lord Of Mischief (Post 5) in Race 7, and Golden Dogecoin (Post 3) in Race 8. The Cats Gone Estray (Post 7) mount in Race 2 is a co-favorite assignment that speaks to the rider's current standing.

Taylor Kingsley has been mentioned as an improving rider at this meet, drawing mounts in Races 3, 5, and 7 including Expresso Bay (Post 3), Fuoco (Post 6), and City Tripper (Post 1). The CITY TRIPPER assignment in the $33,000 feature is the biggest opportunity of the day for Kingsley. Ciera Pruitt has mounts in Races 2, 4, and 8, including Waterloo Sunset (Post 3) and Slainte Mhath (Post 8). Pruitt has been steadily building her book at PID and is worth tracking as a meet progresses.

Trainer Notes and Insights

Ron G. Potts Jr. enters three runners today — Rewardann'swarrior (Post 1) and Starlit Sky (Post 5) in Race 1, plus Hot Gamer (Post 3) in Race 2. Potts has been among the most active and productive trainers at PID this meet, with multiple winners in recent days including runners on Monday's stakes card. The double entry in Race 1 is worth monitoring for any late jockey changes or equipment additions that could signal the barn's preferred runner.

Michael C. Pappada enters four horses today across Races 1, 5, 6, and 7: Ready Set Cairo (Post 1) in Race 3, Sticktotheplanman (Post 1) in Race 5, Smokin' Hot (Post 7) in Race 6, and Thorn Of Hearts (Post 6) in Race 7. The 3-1 morning line favorite in the card's biggest race is Pappada's headline entry, and Thorn Of Hearts (Post 6) should be treated as a serious win contender.

John Fennessy is another high-volume trainer today, entering Thy Name Is Woman (Post 4) in Race 2, Sparkling Silver (Post 4) in Race 4, Del Rayo (Post 1) and R Admiral (Post 2) in Race 6, and Wicked Genius (Post 4) in Race 7. The double entry in Race 6 is particularly interesting. Fennessy barns typically run honest races, and the 3-1 and 6-1 pricing suggests Del Rayo (Post 1) is the preferred runner with R Admiral (Post 2) as a secondary chance.

Scooter Davis saddles Braggart Joe (Post 5) in Race 3, War Profiteer (Post 5) and So Grand (Post 3) in Race 5, and Drunk On Sake (Post 4) in Race 6. Davis is clearly comfortable doubling up in maiden special weight company for Race 5, and War Profiteer (Post 5) at 2-1 is clearly his primary runner there.

Kevin Rice is one of the most active trainers on the card, entering horses in Races 3, 5, 7, and 8. His runners include Fistfulofmoney (Post 4) in Race 3, Lee The Cabby (Post 4) in Race 5, Drunkle (Post 3) in Race 6, and Undergrad (Post 1) in Race 8. The decision to put Martinez aboard Undergrad (Post 1) in the closing race highlights this as a key Rice runner.

Moises Valdez enters three horses — Miss M M (Post 2) and Waterloo Sunset (Post 3) in Race 4, plus Dance On Air (Post 7) and Slainte Mhath (Post 8) in Race 8. The double entry in Race 4 and Race 8 on the same card suggests Valdez is keeping his stock busy and hoping to land in the right spots.

Best Wagering Strategies and Value Plays

The best single bet on the card is Lee The Cabby (Post 4) in Race 5. The combination of Gaddiel A. Martinez and a Kevin Rice barn entry in the card's best sprint at 4-1 represents genuine overlay territory. War Profiteer (Post 5) at 2-1 is the legitimate morning line favorite, but in a six-horse maiden special weight sprint with multiple price threats, 4-1 on a sharp jockey-trainer combination represents strong value.

The Race 7 allowance trifecta is the most lucrative exotic opportunity on the card. With three horses at 4-1 and the 3-1 favorite in an eight-horse field, there is legitimate depth for trifecta payouts in the $50 to $150 range if a modest price horse hits the board in the third position. The structure of Thorn Of Hearts (Post 6) on top, Runningforjoy (Post 7) second, and Lord Of Mischief (Post 5) or City Tripper (Post 1) third at 50 cents is the recommended play. Including Via Della Spiga (Post 8) as a fourth saver adds minimal cost for meaningful coverage.

For Pick 3 players, the sequence Races 5-6-7 is ideal. War Profiteer (Post 5) in Race 5 is the strongest single on the card, Maynard (Post 5) in Race 6 is a manageable favorite, and Race 7 offers multiple live horses for the third leg. A Pick 3 of War Profiteer (Post 5) single in Race 5, Maynard (Post 5) and Del Rayo (Post 1) in Race 6, and Thorn Of Hearts (Post 6), Runningforjoy (Post 7), and Lord Of Mischief (Post 5) in Race 7 gives solid coverage at a reasonable investment.

For exacta value, the Race 3 five-horse claiming route with four horses at 4-1 is a prime target. If Braggart Joe (Post 5) wins at 2-1, the exacta with Lets Get It On (Post 2) at 4-1 could return $18 to $25 for a $2 investment, which is solid value. The alternative exacta of Lets Get It On (Post 2) over Braggart Joe (Post 5) is worth a smaller investment as a saver.

The closing Race 8 is the hardest race on the card to solve, with four horses sharing the 4-1 price and two longshots from a trainer doubling up. Conservative bettors should focus their capital on Races 5 and 7 and treat Race 8 as a trifecta box race rather than a win single. A $1 trifecta box of Undergrad (Post 1), Channel Me In (Post 2), Golden Dogecoin (Post 3), and Collective Nation (Post 5) — four horses, four combinations — costs $24 and covers the most logical price points in the closing race.

Finally, watch the weather closely as the afternoon progresses. If the track shifts to good or sloppy conditions ahead of Races 6 through 8, reassess horses with demonstrated wet-track form and be cautious about backing heavy favorites who have shown no preference for an off surface.
