THISTLEDOWN RACE DAY OVERVIEW — AUGUST 26, 2026

Thistledown Racetrack in North Randall, Ohio opens its Wednesday afternoon card with eight races spanning a mix of claiming, optional claiming, and allowance conditions. The card is anchored by a pair of $50,000 claiming sprints and two allowance routes that should attract the sharpest horses on the grounds. Total handle will be supplemented by regional simulcast interest, and the card offers two natural Pick 4 sequences worth targeting for exotic players.

The card leans heavily toward sprint distances, with six of eight races contested at 1210 furlongs or 1320 furlongs on the main track. The two routes — Race 2 at 1760 furlongs and Race 3 at 1760 furlongs — give route specialists a rare midweek opportunity. Fillies and mares dominate several fields as indicated by the BUM condition tags, while BUN races indicate mixed company. Horseplayers should note that the two upper-level claiming races, Race 4 and Race 7, both carded at $50,000 for horses that have not won three lifetime, are the signature contests of the afternoon.

Trainer Emily Szczepanski sends out two in the opener, Jefferson Skerrett has mounts throughout the card for his family barn, and Loren Huepenbecker fields runners in four races. The Skerrett family operation — Jeffrey training, Jefferson riding — is a formidable combination at this level at Thistledown and should be respected whenever they appear. Jockey Fernando Salazar Becerra is in heavy demand, booked in five races, while David J. Haldar and Erik Barbaran also have multiple engagements.

WEATHER AND TRACK CONDITIONS

August 26, 2026 brings warm, partly cloudy conditions to the greater Cleveland metropolitan area. Temperatures at post time for the first race are projected in the low-to-mid 80s Fahrenheit, with humidity levels running moderate for this time of year. A stray afternoon shower cannot be entirely ruled out as a weak frontal system lingers to the west, but the probability of meaningful precipitation during the racing program is low. Winds are expected out of the southwest at 8 to 12 miles per hour, which should not significantly affect racing.

Thistledown's main track is listed as fast and is expected to remain so throughout the afternoon barring any unforeseen weather development. The strip has been receiving consistent maintenance through the summer meet, and recent patterns suggest a relatively consistent surface with no extreme bias reports filed. Track maintenance crews watered the strip overnight to address surface firmness, and the track is expected to be in excellent condition by the time the first field loads.

TRACK AND POST POSITION BIAS

Thistledown's one-mile oval plays to certain tendencies that experienced handicappers have documented over the course of the summer meet. In sprint races at 1210 furlongs, which make up the bulk of today's card, the starting gate is positioned on the far turn, meaning horses break from the chute and immediately navigate into the clubhouse turn. This configuration historically benefits horses with early speed that can establish position quickly, particularly those breaking from the inside half of the gate.

Post positions 1 through 4 in sprint races have shown a modest advantage in terms of clear path through the turn, though a horse breaking from post 1 must also contend with being squeezed against the rail in large fields. The most productive posts in 1210-furlong sprints at Thistledown over recent months have been posts 2 through 5, which offer a comfortable cushion from the rail without requiring excessive early move to secure position.

In route races at 1760 furlongs, the chute start on the backside gives horses more room to settle before the first turn, somewhat neutralizing post position advantage. Closers and stalkers have a reasonable opportunity in the two route races on today's card, though front-runners that can control fractions still hold a meaningful edge if the pace scenario falls their way.

On a fast track at Thistledown, speed has been consistently rewarded this summer, and any horse capable of securing the lead or pressing it within striking distance without burning excessive energy should be strongly considered. There is no evidence of an extreme outer post bias today, and no significant rail bias has been reported for this date.

RACE 1 — Post (12:50)/11:50/10:50/9:50 — 1210f | D | C | Clm 5000n3l | BUM | Purse $12,200

This opener is a six-furlong sprint for fillies and mares that have not won three lifetime, carrying a $5,000 claiming tag. Eight runners are entered, and the field has a spread of morning line prices suggesting a legitimate competitive race at the bottom of the claiming ladder. Early pace figures will be modest, and the winner here likely comes from the speed-favoring mold given the sprint distance and the track's tendencies.

Pace Analysis

The early pace picture in this field shows multiple potential speedballs. Little Value Added (POST 1), the morning line favorite at 2-1, should be involved near the front, and Sparkly (POST 2) from the same barn as Sthenic (POST 3) under trainer Emily Szczepanski is another speed-oriented type likely to contest early. Tale Of Lemonbelle (POST 4) from the Skerrett operation has been pointed at this type of race and should also have early foot. If multiple horses press the issue, the fractions could become contentious, opening a window for a presser or mild closer. The pace scenario here is genuinely contested, and a pace collapse benefiting a stalker is a realistic outcome.

Key Contenders

Little Value Added (POST 1) draws the rail and opens as the 2-1 morning line choice. As the chalk in a bottom-level claiming sprint, this filly carries the confidence of the morning line makers. Jose A. Bracho aboard gives the connections a capable handler who knows the Thistledown strip. Her inside draw is a double-edged sword in a field of eight — she gets the short trip around the turn but must avoid traffic through the clubhouse. If she can clear quickly and settle on the lead or just off it, she has a solid chance to wire this field.

Tale Of Lemonbelle (POST 4) represents the Skerrett family operation, with Jeffrey training and Jefferson riding. This combination is respected throughout the Cleveland circuit, and when they double up like this it demands attention. The 4 post gives a clean trip, and if this filly has been pointed at this spot, she may be sitting on a big effort. She deserves significant respect at 4-1 on the morning line.

Secondary Choices

Sparkly (POST 2) is one of two Szczepanski runners in this race, with Jerome J. Innis up. At 4-1, she is a logical price play if the two stablemates end up competing against each other and diluting support. Running for the same trainer as Sthenic (POST 3), bettors should note the stablemate dynamic — if connections show a preference, one of these two could be significantly bet off the morning line.

Airforce Lightning (POST 5) at 5-1 from the Rey Juarez-Mendoza barn with Erik Barbaran up is a horse to consider. Barbaran has multiple mounts today, suggesting he is riding in form, and a 5-1 price in a field this competitive at the claiming level offers genuine value. The five post is a workable draw in the context of this field.

Longshots

Sthenic (POST 3) is the second Szczepanski entrant at 10-1, with Luis Alberto Batista in the irons. As the longer-priced stablemate, she is harder to use in exotics unless one has a strong read on which of the two fillies is the preferred runner. Neblina (POST 8) at 8-1 from the Rodney C. Faulkner barn with David J. Haldar presents an intriguing outside draw. Faulkner is active throughout today's card with Haldar riding several of his horses, suggesting the barn is firing on all cylinders. Ruby River (POST 7) at 12-1 and Guyana's Eclipse (POST 6) at 12-1 are logical toss candidates in a small-field sprint, though at these prices, either could be included on the bottom of trifectas to cover.

Selections

Win: Tale Of Lemonbelle (POST 4) Place: Little Value Added (POST 1) Show: Airforce Lightning (POST 5)

Betting Strategy: The Skerrett family combination makes Tale Of Lemonbelle (POST 4) the top selection here at a workable 4-1 price. Build trifectas with Little Value Added (POST 1) and Tale Of Lemonbelle (POST 4) on top, spreading to Sparkly (POST 2), Airforce Lightning (POST 5), and Neblina (POST 8) underneath. This is not a race to attack aggressively from a win perspective given the modest purse and the stablemate complication with the Szczepanski runners.

RACE 2 — Post (1:20)/12:20/11:20/10:20 — 1760f | D | CO | OClm 8000 | BUN | Purse $20,000

Race 2 is a one-mile optional claimer at $8,000 for horses of both sexes. This is one of the two route races on the card and the only optional claiming route. The $20,000 purse is reasonable for this level at Thistledown, and eight runners make up a solid field. Route races at Thistledown give pace scenarios time to develop, and the 1760-furlong trip plays well for horses that can rate off the early pace and sustain their run.

Pace Analysis

Hilarious Affair (POST 6) opens as the 2-1 morning line favorite and will likely dictate terms in this route. The Lopez-trained runner with Fernando Salazar Becerra up is well positioned to control the pace from post 6 if sent forwardly. Puff'smagicdragon (POST 3) from the Jeff Radosevich barn is another figure to watch in terms of pace. If Hilarious Affair (POST 6) gets an uncontested lead at reasonable fractions, she could be very difficult to run down. A pace duel would benefit closers, specifically Rose's Pepino (POST 8) and potentially Patriarchal (POST 5).

Key Contenders

Hilarious Affair (POST 6) is the clear morning line choice at 2-1, and for good reason. Trainer Elias Lopez has the runner ready, and Salazar Becerra's booking here on the even-money side of the card suggests confidence from the connections. In a one-turn mile at Thistledown, a horse that can control the fractions from a middle post is in an ideal tactical position. This horse has to be respected at the top of every exotic ticket.

Dr Schuster (POST 2) is an intriguing 4-1 shot from trainer Robin Schuster — a trainer who also shares the horse's name, suggesting a deeply personal investment in this animal's success. Brandon Tapara rides. At 4-1, this horse could represent overlay value if the morning line is close to accurate for the rest of the field. The two post sets up well for a stalking trip in a route.

Secondary Choices

Puff'smagicdragon (POST 3) from Jeff Radosevich with Erik Barbaran is the 5-1 third choice. Barbaran is active all day, and Radosevich is a capable conditioner at this level. From post 3 in a one-mile route, this horse gets a clean early trip and could stalk Hilarious Affair (POST 6) into the stretch. Rose's Pepino (POST 8) at 4-1 from Robert L. Inman with Bailey Weatherly up is a legitimate contender. Outside posts in route races at Thistledown are not a significant disadvantage, and a horse that can relax early and close into a pace battle has a fighting chance.

Longshots

Rock The Red (POST 7) at 6-1 from Nestor R. Rivera with Alexander Chavez is a usable price for exotics. Rivera also has More Than Five (POST 4) in this race at 10-1 — note the Rivera stablemate angle. Patriarchal (POST 5) at 6-1 from Caryn Vecchio with Jefferson Skerrett could fire at a price in a route that suits a closer. Aye Aye Sir (POST 1) at 12-1 is the longest shot in the field and difficult to recommend unless the pace becomes truly suicidal. More Than Five (POST 4) at 10-1 would need a pace collapse and an extremely favorable pace setup to factor.

Selections

Win: Hilarious Affair (POST 6) Place: Dr Schuster (POST 2) Show: Puff'smagicdragon (POST 3)

Betting Strategy: Hilarious Affair (POST 6) is the straightforward play here. In the exacta, wheel Hilarious Affair (POST 6) over Dr Schuster (POST 2), Puff'smagicdragon (POST 3), and Rose's Pepino (POST 8). A small trifecta box using those four runners makes sense given the wide-open nature of the underneath finishers.

RACE 3 — Post (1:50)/12:50/11:50/10:50 — 1760f | D | A | Alw 29700n2x | BUM | Purse $29,700

The first allowance race of the afternoon is restricted to fillies and mares that have not won two allowance races. The $29,700 purse is a meaningful step up from the claiming races, and the six-horse field is compact but competitive. This is a one-mile route for mares, and the allowance condition — n2x — means these runners should have class credentials that the claiming horses earlier cannot match. Cloud Storage (POST 2) and Riobella (POST 6) share the 2-1 morning line, creating a co-favorite scenario that should be examined closely.

Pace Analysis

With six fillies and mares entered, the pace dynamics should be manageable. Cloud Storage (POST 2) under trainer Benny R. Feliciano and jockey R. Feliciano — another trainer-family jockey combination — will likely dictate or press the pace from post 2. Carmel Rose (POST 4) could also be involved early depending on running style. Riobella (POST 6) from Kim Puhl figures to come from off the pace in this spot. The question is whether the early fractions will be honest enough to give the closers a reasonable shot, or whether Cloud Storage (POST 2) can control the pace and hold on. Kissin Cash (POST 5), also from the Puhl barn, creates another stablemate scenario with Riobella (POST 6) that needs monitoring.

Key Contenders

Cloud Storage (POST 2) shares the favorite role at 2-1. The Feliciano family combination — trainer Benny R. Feliciano with jockey R. Feliciano — speaks to confidence and familiarity with the runner. Post 2 in a six-horse route is a dream draw, allowing the filly to find a clean path early and control the shape of the race. In a field with only six runners, a front-runner in good form with a friendly draw is extremely difficult to beat.

Riobella (POST 6) is the second 2-1 co-favorite, trained by Kim Puhl with L.A. Gonzalez up. Puhl is a crafty conditioner who does well with allowance fillies at this level, and she sends out two horses in this race. The 6 post in a six-horse route means Riobella (POST 6) has the widest draw but plenty of room to settle. If she has more natural ability than her stablemate Kissin Cash (POST 5), she should emerge as the top Puhl option.

Secondary Choices

Carmel Rose (POST 4) at 4-1 from Anthony Stephen with Mauro Cedillo represents the main challenger to the two favorites. A 4-1 price in a competitive allowance field for fillies and mares is legitimate value if this runner has been training forwardly. The middle draw is solid, and Cedillo is a capable handler for this class.

Kissin Cash (POST 5) at 4-1 is the second Puhl entrant, and the stablemate dynamic deserves scrutiny. If Puhl believes Riobella (POST 6) is her top runner, Kissin Cash (POST 5) may be on the card to add pace or simply take her own shot. Jefferson Skerrett rides, which is noteworthy — the Skerrett name is attached to quality efforts throughout this card.

Longshots

Toastmaster (POST 1) at 6-1 from Timothy Hamm with Rocco Bowen is a horse to consider at a price in a small field. With only six runners, there are no true throwouts, and a 6-1 opener could drift in a short field. Aunt Mo (POST 3) at 12-1 from Dale Carrington with Laureano Sosa is the longest price in the field and a difficult inclusion in win/place tickets, though she could fill out underneath in trifectas at a price.

Selections

Win: Cloud Storage (POST 2) Place: Riobella (POST 6) Show: Carmel Rose (POST 4)

Betting Strategy: The 2-1 co-favorite scenario is tricky. Cloud Storage (POST 2) gets the better draw and should be listed first on win tickets. The exacta pairing of Cloud Storage (POST 2) over Riobella (POST 6) will be heavily bet but is a legitimate outcome. Use Carmel Rose (POST 4) and Kissin Cash (POST 5) in trifectas to diversify. In Pick 3 or Pick 4 sequences, using both 2-1 favorites in this race to cover is reasonable given the low cost of coverage.

RACE 4 — Post (2:20)/1:20/12:20/11:20 — 1210f | D | C | Clm 50000n3l | BUN | Purse $32,000

Race 4 is the first of two $50,000 claiming sprints on the card, open to horses of both sexes that have not won three lifetime. The $32,000 purse is the highest on the card until the closing allowances, making this a pivotal race for handicappers. Six runners enter the gate, and the field features a pair of morning line co-favorites that split the market evenly.

Pace Analysis

Jac's Doe Maker (POST 1) and Tyson's Lil' Star (POST 6) share the 2-1 morning line, and their running styles will largely determine how this race is run. If both are speed horses, the pace could be honest and potentially set up a closer. Tough Cat (POST 3) at 4-1 with Jose A. Bracho is another pace factor from post 3. A three-way early battle in a six-furlong sprint at $50,000 claiming would be significant and could open the door for Kettle Coalmine (POST 5) if it has any tactical ability.

Key Contenders

Jac's Doe Maker (POST 1) from Ivan Vazquez with Chelsey Keiser gets the rail draw and co-favorite status at 2-1. Keiser is a capable rider at this level, and Vazquez has pointed this runner at this spot. A rail draw in a six-horse sprint can be an asset on a fast track at Thistledown — if this runner can break cleanly and find the fence early, she controls her own destiny.

Tyson's Lil' Star (POST 6) from Valerie K. Shanyfelt with L.A. Gonzalez shares the 2-1 morning line from the outside post. Gonzalez has multiple mounts today. The six post in a six-horse sprint means this runner may need to work a bit wide through the turn, which costs ground, but an advantaged horse at this level can overcome a wide trip if she is the class of the field.

Secondary Choices

Tough Cat (POST 3) at 4-1 from Joe M. Poole with Jose A. Bracho is the most logical threat to the two favorites. Bracho is also aboard Little Value Added (POST 1) in the opener, suggesting he is riding in good form this afternoon. A 4-1 price on the third choice in a six-horse field is fair market value, and Tough Cat (POST 3) from post 3 gets a perfect trip stalking the early pace.

Kettle Coalmine (POST 5) at 6-1 from Rodney C. Faulkner with David J. Haldar is the Faulkner stable runner in this field. The trainer-jockey duo is active all day, and at 6-1, Kettle Coalmine (POST 5) offers a meaningful price boost over the chalk if the pace collapses in the final furlong.

Longshots

After Sunrise (POST 2) at 10-1 from Wilson C. Langley with D.L. Parker is a significant price in a short field and difficult to endorse on win tickets. However, at 10-1 in a six-horse field, including her underneath in trifectas costs very little. Silver Zapper (POST 4) at 15-1 from Loren Huepenbecker with Erik Barbaran is the longest price on the board. Huepenbecker does have multiple runners on today's card, but 15-1 in a six-horse field suggests the morning line maker views this runner as well below the class of the favorites.

Selections

Win: Jac's Doe Maker (POST 1) Place: Tough Cat (POST 3) Show: Kettle Coalmine (POST 5)

Betting Strategy: The rail post gives Jac's Doe Maker (POST 1) a slight edge over Tyson's Lil' Star (POST 6) in terms of trip efficiency. Key the exacta both ways between the two co-favorites with Tough Cat (POST 3) in trifectas. At 6-1, Kettle Coalmine (POST 5) is the best value play in this race as a show investment and an underneath inclusion in trifectas.

RACE 5 — Post (2:50)/1:50/12:50/11:50 — 1210f | D | C | Clm 7500n2y | BUN | Purse $17,400

Race 5 is a six-furlong claiming sprint at the $7,500 level for horses that have not won two races within a year. This condition produces competitive, often unpredictable races at minor tracks, as the eligibility restriction means all entrants are relatively lightly raced winners. Six runners enter, and Fact Not Fiction (POST 1) opens as the 2-1 morning line choice.

Pace Analysis

Fact Not Fiction (POST 1) from the Skerrett family operation should be the controlling speed here from the rail. With Jefferson Skerrett in the irons, this runner gets an experienced handler who will attempt to dictate terms from post 1. May Mayhem (POST 4) at 3-1 is the second choice and will likely be the primary pace pressurer. If both go at it early in a six-furlong sprint, Worthy Opponent (POST 3) and Gottomakeithappen (POST 5) become live closer options.

Key Contenders

Fact Not Fiction (POST 1) is the Skerrett barn entry with all the right credentials — top barn, top rider, favorable draw, and short morning line price. In a six-horse sprint for horses that haven't won two races in a year, a barn in top form pressing all the right buttons should be respected at 2-1.

May Mayhem (POST 4) at 3-1 from Jeff Radosevich with L.R. Rivera is the second choice and the primary threat. Radosevich has multiple runners today, and Rivera is getting live mounts throughout the card. From post 4, this runner gets a clean trip and can either press or stalk depending on the early fractions.

Secondary Choices

Worthy Opponent (POST 3) at 4-1 from Candace M. Huffman with Rocco Bowen is a legitimate secondary choice. Bowen is a capable jockey at this level, and Huffman finding a spot for this runner at 4-1 in a six-horse field suggests confidence. Gottomakeithappen (POST 5) at 4-1 from Gary L. Johnson with D.L. Parker is the other 4-1 runner. Johnson sends out horses at multiple points on the card, and a 4-1 price with a capable rider is worth including in exacta and trifecta combinations.

Longshots

Nambiti (POST 2) at 8-1 from Richard Zielinski with Fernando Salazar Becerra is a useful inclusion in trifectas at a strong price. Salazar Becerra is heavily booked today and brings credibility to any mount he takes. Mutiny (POST 6) at 8-1 from Ricardo Bailey with Jason Simpson is the outside price play in this field. At 8-1 in a six-horse sprint, Mutiny (POST 6) could hit the board in a pace-pressured race.

Selections

Win: Fact Not Fiction (POST 1) Place: May Mayhem (POST 4) Show: Worthy Opponent (POST 3)

Betting Strategy: The Skerrett operation sending Fact Not Fiction (POST 1) from the rail at 2-1 in a short field is a legitimate straight play. Key exactas of Fact Not Fiction (POST 1) over May Mayhem (POST 4), Worthy Opponent (POST 3), and Gottomakeithappen (POST 5). Trifectas using those four runners are manageable in cost and cover the most likely outcomes.

RACE 6 — Post (3:20)/2:20/1:20/12:20 — 1210f | D | C | Clm 5000n2y | BUM | Purse $12,600

Race 6 drops to $5,000 claiming for fillies and mares that have not won two races in a year. Six runners enter, and the market is split between two 2-1 co-favorites: Tizzy Jojo (POST 2) and Miss Foxann (POST 6). This is a typical bottom-level claiming sprint for mares, and the outcome will likely come down to which co-favorite gets the better of the early pace scenario.

Pace Analysis

Tizzy Jojo (POST 2) figures to be pressing speed from post 2, and Miss Foxann (POST 6) from the outside will need to find her spot around horses. If Tizzy Jojo (POST 2) can control the pace, she may be very difficult to catch. Blazing Zenna (POST 1) with Jefferson Skerrett could also factor in the early speed battle. The pace shape of this race depends largely on how aggressively these runners are handled in the first quarter.

Key Contenders

Tizzy Jojo (POST 2) is the co-favorite at 2-1 from Gary L. Johnson with Fernando Salazar Becerra up. The combination of an in-form rider with a well-placed trainer in a favorable post position makes Tizzy Jojo (POST 2) the logical top choice. Johnson has runners throughout the card, and Salazar Becerra's heavy book today suggests he is riding sharp.

Miss Foxann (POST 6) is the other 2-1 morning line favorite, trained by Julie A. Pappada with Rocco Bowen up. From the outside post in a six-horse field, this filly needs a clean break and some room to develop her run. Bowen is capable, and if Pappada has this filly ready to fire, the outside post will not be an insurmountable challenge.

Secondary Choices

Principia (POST 3) at 4-1 from Marco Ccamaque with Chelsey Keiser is the main midfield threat. Keiser is active throughout the card, and a 4-1 price in a six-horse sprint represents fair value. Lady Loves Money (POST 4) at 4-1 from Jevon Crumley with Angel I. Diaz is the other 4-1 runner. The middle draw is comfortable, and this filly could be a closing threat if the leaders press each other.

Longshots

Blazing Zenna (POST 1) at 12-1 from Joseph P. Mahan with Jefferson Skerrett is an interesting inclusion. Skerrett riding at 12-1 is either a sign of a horse that needs the race or a potential sleeper if the barn has found something. At 12-1, she deserves a small inclusion in trifectas. Tall Girl (POST 5) at 8-1 from Jose A. Romero with Miguel L. Martinez rounds out the field. Neither longshot appears strong enough to win but could surprise in the show hole in a pace-contested sprint.

Selections

Win: Tizzy Jojo (POST 2) Place: Miss Foxann (POST 6) Show: Principia (POST 3)

Betting Strategy: Tizzy Jojo (POST 2) gets the better draw and a top booking in Salazar Becerra. Key her on top of exactas over Miss Foxann (POST 6), Principia (POST 3), and Lady Loves Money (POST 4). The co-favorite exacta between Tizzy Jojo (POST 2) and Miss Foxann (POST 6) is the logical result, but at short prices, look for value in the trifecta by including Principia (POST 3) and Lady Loves Money (POST 4) underneath.

RACE 7 — Post (3:50)/2:50/1:50/12:50 — 1210f | D | C | Clm 50000n3l | BUM | Purse $32,000

The second $50,000 claiming sprint of the afternoon is restricted to fillies and mares that have not won three lifetime. Six horses enter, and two share the morning line favoritism at 2-1: Mandalay Sky (POST 1) and Her Own Shadow (POST 5). This is one of the premier races on the card, and the quality of these fillies should be the highest on today's program among the claiming divisions.

Pace Analysis

Mandalay Sky (POST 1) from the Israel Flores barn with Fernando Salazar Becerra gets the rail in a six-horse sprint. If this filly has front-running tendencies, she is in a perfect position to clear immediately and settle on the lead. Her Own Shadow (POST 5) from Jeff Radosevich with L.R. Rivera comes from a trainer who is active all day and may have different tactical attributes. Biondettisnitemare (POST 4) from the Faulkner barn with David J. Haldar is another figure who could be involved near the pace. If the two favorites have opposing running styles — one front-runner and one stalker — the pace picture resolves cleanly. If both want the lead, the fractions could be contentious.

Key Contenders

Mandalay Sky (POST 1) is a fascinating top choice. Getting the rail with Fernando Salazar Becerra in a six-horse field for fillies at the $50,000 claiming level is an ideal setup. Trainer Israel Flores has targeted this spot, and Salazar Becerra's willingness to ride rail posts throughout this card indicates confidence in these runners. If she breaks cleanly and secures the lead, she could be very difficult to beat.

Her Own Shadow (POST 5) at 2-1 from Jeff Radosevich has been one of the most consistent trainers on today's card. With L.R. Rivera, who is getting multiple mounts today in a clear display of Thistledown confidence, this filly from post 5 has every chance to stalk or press whatever pace scenario develops. Radosevich fillies at this level have been competitive throughout the Thistledown summer meet.

Secondary Choices

Biondettisnitemare (POST 4) at 4-1 from Rodney C. Faulkner with David J. Haldar represents the Faulkner stable's best chance in this race. Faulkner and Haldar have multiple entries today — the trainer is sending runners with confidence. At 4-1 in a six-horse field, Biondettisnitemare (POST 4) from post 4 is in an excellent tactical position regardless of pace scenario.

Midnite Kings Fate (POST 2) at 6-1 from Loren Huepenbecker with Brandon Tapara is a usable price. Huepenbecker has runners all afternoon and clearly has the stable firing. At 6-1 for a trainer in this kind of volume, there is likely a reason for the longer price, but she should not be dismissed in trifectas.

Longshots

Ron Dah Lou (POST 6) at 8-1 from Kristina M. Tumblin with Jefferson Skerrett is a price play worth noting. Skerrett on a longshot at this level has occasionally been a profitable play throughout the Thistledown summer, as the family barn will sometimes pick up a live outside mount when the opportunity exists. Salute The Ghost (POST 3) at 10-1 from Huepenbecker with T.D. Houghton completes the field. The barn has both Salute The Ghost (POST 3) and Midnite Kings Fate (POST 2) in this race, giving them double coverage but diluting support for both horses.

Selections

Win: Mandalay Sky (POST 1) Place: Her Own Shadow (POST 5) Show: Biondettisnitemare (POST 4)

Betting Strategy: Mandalay Sky (POST 1) with Salazar Becerra from the rail in a six-horse filly sprint is the most compelling single play on the afternoon card. Key her on top of win bets, exactas, and trifectas. The exacta of Mandalay Sky (POST 1) over Her Own Shadow (POST 5) is the chalk play — at 2-1 prices, the return will be modest but the probability is high. Spread underneath to Biondettisnitemare (POST 4) and Ron Dah Lou (POST 6) for a bigger trifecta payout.

RACE 8 — Post (4:20)/3:20/2:20/1:20 — 1320f | D | A | Alw 35800n1x | BUM | Purse $35,800

The closing race is the richest on the card at $35,800 and carries the most prestige of the afternoon. This is a seven-furlong allowance sprint restricted to fillies and mares that have never won an allowance race. Seven runners enter, and Queen Kitty (POST 6) opens as the 2-1 morning line favorite under the Huepenbecker barn. This race serves as the anchor of any Pick 4 or Pick 5 wager from the middle of the card and deserves thorough analysis.

Pace Analysis

With seven runners over seven furlongs, the pace scenario is more complex than the shorter sprints earlier in the card. Queen Kitty (POST 6) from post 6 and Come On Arlene (POST 7) at 3-1 from post 7 both sit on the outside half of the gate. Fortheloveofbonnie (POST 2) with Jose A. Bracho could be a pace factor from inside. Jilly Runs Deep (POST 1) from Huepenbecker's barn with T.D. Houghton may add early pace as well. If the Huepenbecker barn fires both Queen Kitty (POST 6) and Jilly Runs Deep (POST 1) forward aggressively, the fractions could get sporty over seven furlongs, opening up the closer angle for Come On Arlene (POST 7) or Bionic Saint (POST 4).

Key Contenders

Queen Kitty (POST 6) is the morning line favorite from the Huepenbecker barn, ridden by Brandon Tapara. Huepenbecker sends four horses on today's card, and Queen Kitty (POST 6) carries the most positive odds marker. In a seven-furlong allowance for maiden winners seeking their first allowance score, the $35,800 purse brings out capable runners, and a barn in top form has to be trusted at this level. The 6 post in a seven-horse field is workable.

Come On Arlene (POST 7) at 3-1 from Robert C. Cline with Fernando Salazar Becerra is the most intriguing single play on the entire card. Salazar Becerra has been booked in five races today and is clearly the hot rider at Thistledown on this date. His mount on Come On Arlene (POST 7) at 3-1 in the richest race of the day represents outstanding value. Cline-trained runners have been competitive at this level throughout the meet, and a morning line of 3-1 for the best jockey on the card in the biggest race of the afternoon is a price overlay.

Secondary Choices

Bionic Saint (POST 4) at 5-1 from Rodney C. Faulkner with David J. Haldar is an interesting midfield contender. The Faulkner-Haldar combination has been active throughout the card, and a 5-1 price in a quality allowance sprint is fair value. From post 4, Bionic Saint (POST 4) can stalk the early pace and make her run at the quarter pole.

Jilly Runs Deep (POST 1) at 4-1 from Huepenbecker with T.D. Houghton is the stablemate of Queen Kitty (POST 6). The barn sends two in this race, and the 4-1 price on the longer-priced stablemate suggests Queen Kitty (POST 6) is the preferred runner. Still, Houghton is a capable rider who has been on the Huepenbecker runners all day, and if Jilly Runs Deep (POST 1) can control the pace from the rail, she could wire this field.

Longshots

Fortheloveofbonnie (POST 2) at 6-1 from Justin Radosevich — note the distinction from Jeff Radosevich — with Jose A. Bracho is a price play. Bracho has been busy all day and rides well in sprints. At 6-1, Fortheloveofbonnie (POST 2) is a legitimate trifecta inclusion. Stacy Ellen (POST 3) at 8-1 from Richard Zielinski with Mauro Cedillo and Greek Boutique (POST 5) at 15-1 from Jose A. Romero with Miguel L. Martinez round out the bottom of the market. Stacy Ellen (POST 3) at 8-1 can be used underneath in trifectas and superfectas. Greek Boutique (POST 5) at 15-1 is a tough sell even in superfecta formats given the field quality.

Selections

Win: Come On Arlene (POST 7) Place: Queen Kitty (POST 6) Show: Bionic Saint (POST 4)

Betting Strategy: The value play of the day is Come On Arlene (POST 7) at 3-1. Salazar Becerra's presence on the best-priced quality runner in the richest race is the defining angle of the afternoon. Win and place bets on Come On Arlene (POST 7) are justified. Key the exacta of Come On Arlene (POST 7) over Queen Kitty (POST 6), with a reverse ticket as insurance. Trifectas using Come On Arlene (POST 7) and Queen Kitty (POST 6) on top over Bionic Saint (POST 4), Jilly Runs Deep (POST 1), and Fortheloveofbonnie (POST 2) should generate a satisfying return.

JOCKEY NOTES AND INSIGHTS

Fernando Salazar Becerra is the standout rider today with bookings in five races — Race 2 on Hilarious Affair (POST 6), Race 5 on Nambiti (POST 2), Race 6 on Tizzy Jojo (POST 2), Race 7 on Mandalay Sky (POST 1), and Race 8 on Come On Arlene (POST 7). A rider with this volume of quality mounts on a single card is typically in a hot stretch, and his placements in key races throughout the afternoon suggest the top connections view him as the go-to pilot. His bookings on Mandalay Sky (POST 1) in Race 7 and Come On Arlene (POST 7) in Race 8 are particularly significant given those are the most competitive races of the day.

Jefferson Skerrett carries the dual weight of being both a riding member of the family's training operation and an in-demand jockey for outside barns today. His mounts include Tale Of Lemonbelle (POST 4) in Race 1 for the family barn, Patriarchal (POST 5) in Race 2, Kissin Cash (POST 5) in Race 3, Fact Not Fiction (POST 1) in Race 5, Blazing Zenna (POST 1) in Race 6, and Ron Dah Lou (POST 6) in Race 7. The volume of rides and the cross-barn bookings indicate strong respect for his abilities across the Thistledown jockey colony.

David J. Haldar rides for trainer Rodney C. Faulkner throughout the card — More Than Five (POST 4) in Race 2, Kettle Coalmine (POST 5) in Race 4, Biondettisnitemare (POST 4) in Race 7, and Bionic Saint (POST 4) in Race 8. When a trainer consistently books the same rider across multiple races on a single card, it speaks to a trusted partnership. The Faulkner-Haldar combination deserves consistent attention throughout the afternoon.

Jose A. Bracho rides in three races — Little Value Added (POST 1) in Race 1, Tough Cat (POST 3) in Race 4, and Fortheloveofbonnie (POST 2) in Race 8. Bracho's presence on the morning line favorites and top contenders in multiple races confirms his standing in the Thistledown riding colony. His mount on Tough Cat (POST 3) in Race 4 is particularly appealing at 4-1.

Erik Barbaran has mounts in Race 1 on Airforce Lightning (POST 5), Race 2 on Puff'smagicdragon (POST 3), and Race 4 on Silver Zapper (POST 4). The Race 4 mount at 15-1 is difficult to endorse, but his other two rides are live at fair prices.

TRAINER NOTES AND INSIGHTS

Loren Huepenbecker is the volume trainer of the day, with runners in four races — Aye Aye Sir (POST 1) in Race 2, Silver Zapper (POST 4) in Race 4, and a pair each in Races 7 and 8. In Race 7, Midnite Kings Fate (POST 2) and Salute The Ghost (POST 3) both carry the Huepenbecker name. In Race 8, Jilly Runs Deep (POST 1) and Queen Kitty (POST 6) give the barn two shots at the richest purse of the day. A trainer entering two horses in the same race is signaling confidence in multiple runners, but bettors should identify the preferred horse — in Race 8, Queen Kitty (POST 6) at 2-1 versus Jilly Runs Deep (POST 1) at 4-1 suggests Queen Kitty (POST 6) is the barn's top option.

The Skerrett family operation, with Jeffrey training and Jefferson riding, fields Tale Of Lemonbelle (POST 4) in Race 1 and Fact Not Fiction (POST 1) in Race 5. Both runners hold morning line favorite or near-favorite status, and the family-trained, family-ridden angle at a track like Thistledown is a proven winning formula. Their runners deserve elevated respect.

Rodney C. Faulkner is another high-volume trainer today with Neblina (POST 8) in Race 1, More Than Five (POST 4) in Race 2, Kettle Coalmine (POST 5) in Race 4, Biondettisnitemare (POST 4) in Race 7, and Bionic Saint (POST 4) in Race 8. Five runners on a single card with the same jockey booked for most suggests the barn is firing. Bionic Saint (POST 4) in Race 8 at 5-1 is the Faulkner runner with the most intriguing price-to-quality ratio today.

Jeff Radosevich has three horses on the card: Puff'smagicdragon (POST 3) in Race 2, May Mayhem (POST 4) in Race 5, and Her Own Shadow (POST 5) in Race 7. His co-favorite Her Own Shadow (POST 5) in Race 7 is his most prominent runner and the one that demands the most respect. His Race 5 entry May Mayhem (POST 4) at 3-1 is also a legitimate player.

Kim Puhl sends out two in Race 3 — Kissin Cash (POST 5) and Riobella (POST 6) — and Guyana's Eclipse (POST 6) in Race 1. The double entry in Race 3 at 4-1 and 2-1 respectively is the signature Puhl angle of the day, and Riobella (POST 6) at 2-1 with L.A. Gonzalez looks like the preferred runner based on morning line positioning.

Gary L. Johnson trains Gottomakeithappen (POST 5) in Race 5 and Tizzy Jojo (POST 2) in Race 6. The co-favorite in Race 6, Tizzy Jojo (POST 2), is the barn's key runner and a legitimate top choice in that contest.

BEST WAGERING STRATEGIES AND VALUE PLAYS

The best single play on the card is Come On Arlene (POST 7) in Race 8 at 3-1 on the morning line. Salazar Becerra's booking on this runner in the richest race of the day — with the hot hand on the best-priced logical contender — is the defining value angle of the afternoon. A meaningful win bet and place bet on Come On Arlene (POST 7) is the recommended top play.

The best straight price play is Tale Of Lemonbelle (POST 4) in Race 1 at 4-1. The Skerrett family combination in the opener at 4-1 when the morning line maker felt the need to open the field's 2-1 chalk suggests there is genuine competition at the top. A 4-1 Skerrett barn runner is a realistic overlay.

For exotic wagering, the most productive sequence of the day is the Pick 4 covering Races 5 through 8.

In Race 5, use Fact Not Fiction (POST 1) and May Mayhem (POST 4).

In Race 6, use Tizzy Jojo (POST 2) and Miss Foxann (POST 6).

In Race 7, use Mandalay Sky (POST 1) and Her Own Shadow (POST 5).

In Race 8, use Come On Arlene (POST 7) and Queen Kitty (POST 6).

A two-by-two-by-two-by-two Pick 4 ticket covering this sequence costs sixteen units at the base wager and gives full coverage of the two most logical outcomes in each leg. Given the competitive nature of each leg and the likelihood that morning line prices will shift with wagering, this ticket offers a strong balance of coverage and potential payout.

For the Pick 3 covering Races 6 through 8, a single-key approach using Tizzy Jojo (POST 2) in Race 6, two horses in Race 7, and two horses in Race 8 produces a tight, manageable ticket. The combination of Tizzy Jojo (POST 2) over Mandalay Sky (POST 1) and Her Own Shadow (POST 5) over Come On Arlene (POST 7) and Queen Kitty (POST 6) produces a four-combination ticket at a reasonable investment.

The best trifecta construction of the day is in Race 8. Using Come On Arlene (POST 7) and Queen Kitty (POST 6) on top with Bionic Saint (POST 4), Jilly Runs Deep (POST 1), and Fortheloveofbonnie (POST 2) underneath gives excellent coverage in the richest race of the card. The presence of two Huepenbecker horses, the hot Faulkner stable, and the best jockey on the card on a 3-1 runner makes Race 8 the most fertile race for trifecta play on the entire card.

Watch for any late morning line moves before post time. If Come On Arlene (POST 7) is bet down below 5-2 or if Mandalay Sky (POST 1) drifts above 5-2, those are significant signals from the betting public worth incorporating into your final wagering decisions. The combination of Mandalay Sky (POST 1) winning Race 7 and Come On Arlene (POST 7) winning Race 8 as a same-day double is a satisfying outcome that the card fully supports based on the analysis above.
