Track Surface & Bias

CTD's card is scheduled for dirt. The tight 4½-furlong oval at Charles Town generally rewards tactical speed and efficient ground-saving, with the inside paths often firmer than the middle and outside lanes. Expect a fast, fair-to-mildly speed-favoring surface, giving front-runners and stalkers an advantage—particularly from inside or middle posts—while wide closers may need a genuinely strong pace to overcome extra ground.

Handicapper’s Edge

Give added preference to horses showing early speed, tactical versatility, and an ability to secure position without covering extra ground. Treat deep-closing runners cautiously unless the opening races show a pronounced pace collapse or a clear outside-lane advantage.
