Sovereignty remains atop the leaderboard while Thorpedo Anna climbs the rankings.

Saturday’s racing card at Saratoga Race Course delivered exceptional entertainment with five consecutive Grade 1 races, headlined by Sovereignty’s commanding performance in the $1.25 million DraftKings Travers Stakes. The Kentucky Derby and Belmont Stakes winner entered as a heavy 3-10 favorite and justified the confidence with a dominant 10-length victory over Bracket Buster in a field of five runners.

Under jockey Junior Alvarado, who has partnered with Sovereignty for all six career victories, the colt earned a 112 Equibase Speed Figure for his Travers romp. Hall of Fame trainer Bill Mott indicated plans to point Sovereignty toward the $7 million Longines Breeders’ Cup Classic, setting up what could be a defining race for the season’s championship honors.

Sovereignty maintains his commanding position atop the Equibase purse earnings leaderboard with $5,692,020 in 2025 earnings, extending his lead to more than $2 million over second-place Journalism.

Reigning Horse of the Year Thorpedo Anna delivered another stellar performance in Saturday’s Grade 1 Personal Ensign Stakes, edging Dorth Vader by a nose in a thrilling stretch duel. The victory marked her fourth graded stakes win of 2025 and seventh career Grade 1 triumph. The Personal Ensign triumph elevated Thorpedo Anna three positions on the overall earnings leaderboard to fifth place, with yearly earnings reaching $1,564,750. She continues to lead the older female division, maintaining her strong position for potential Horse of the Year honors.

The racing action extended beyond Saratoga, with Charles Town hosting the $1 million Charles Town Classic on August 22. Banishing, a 5-year-old gelding by Ghostzapper, secured his second consecutive stakes victory with a 2¼-length triumph under Tyler Gaffalione for trainer David Jacobson.

Banishing’s consistent excellence throughout 2025 has produced four wins and four seconds, all in stakes company. This remarkable record propelled him nine positions up the leaderboard to fourth overall and second in the older male division, with earnings of $1,566,730.
