Emerald Downs – news and races for August 15, 2025

All racing at Emerald Downs on Friday, August 15, 2025 has been cancelled due to severe weather conditions. Track officials made the decision on August 14th citing concerns over forecasted heavy rainfall, with weather services predicting up to an inch of rain in a short period, potentially falling right before or during Friday night’s scheduled race card.

The forecast showed an 80% chance of rain at 4pm escalating to 99% chance by the scheduled 7pm first race post time, reaching 100% probability until approximately 11pm Friday night. Track VP Jack Hodge emphasized that safety was the primary concern, stating they didn’t want to risk starting a race card only to cancel it mid-program.

Makeup Plans

To compensate for Friday’s cancellation, Emerald Downs is planning extra races on Friday, August 22 and Saturday, August 23. The weekend of August 16-17 was expected to feature excellent racing conditions with temperatures in the 70s and significantly reduced rain chances.
