Mahoning Valley Race Course presents an eight-race card for Monday, March 2, 2026, with first post at 12:15 PM EST. The card is headlined by the OTBO Sales Graduate Race Stakes in the first race, a $50,000 stakes event restricted to Ohio-bred three-year-olds that have passed through an OTBO sale ring. The card also features the day's marquee race in Race 7, a $40,900 allowance for Ohio-bred three-year-old fillies at 5 1/2 furlongs that brings together Brad Cox-trained Kontiki (4) and the impressive local winner Miss Elecktra (1) from the Jason DaCosta barn.

The card is rounded out by two maiden special weight events (Races 3 and 8), three claiming races at the $5,000 level (Races 2, 4, and 5), and a $7,500 claiming event at one mile (Race 6). Field sizes are manageable, ranging from six to nine runners, which should provide good tactical opportunities.

The Buckeye Pick 6 sequence spans Races 3 through 8, and the Pick 3, Pick 4, and Pick 5 multi-race wagers at Mahoning Valley carry an attractive 15% takeout rate, significantly lower than the 22.5% rate on single-race exotics.

The scratch watch bears monitoring: O G Mr. Brightside (1) in Race 1 was scratched by stewards on February 16; Spectacular Tango (6) in Race 3 was scratched by the veterinarian on February 12; Living In Style (3) in Race 4 was scratched by stewards on February 1; Trikitraki (3) in Race 5 was scratched by stewards from a cancelled race on February 10; and Cindy's Last Song (5) in Race 8 had a gate issue on February 9. Be sure to check the live entries before wagering, as any of these could scratch again.

Weather and Track Conditions

As of the early morning report from Youngstown-Warren Regional Airport, the temperature was 18 degrees Fahrenheit under mostly cloudy skies with light winds of 5.8 mph. Temperatures will climb steadily through the afternoon, reaching 38 degrees by the 1:00 PM post and topping out around 41-42 degrees by the mid-to-late afternoon races. Skies will transition from overcast in the morning to partly cloudy and eventually mostly sunny by the 3:00 PM post for Race 7.

No precipitation is expected during the racing hours. The overnight period into Tuesday brings an icy mix and light snow, but the track should remain dry for today's entire card. Given the recent freeze-thaw cycles common in March at this latitude, the surface could have a sealed or firm quality early in the card as frozen ground thaws under the warming afternoon sun. The cold morning start followed by a gradual warm-up suggests the surface may play firm and fast initially, potentially becoming slightly looser in the later races as the sun softens the top layer.

Track condition at post time will be the key variable. Recent racing at Mahoning Valley this winter has frequently taken place over sloppy surfaces, but today's dry forecast should produce a track trending toward fast or at least good.

Track Bias and Post Position Analysis

Mahoning Valley generally plays as a speed-favoring dirt course, particularly at the standard six-furlong sprint distance. Horses on or near the lead entering the turn hold a measurable advantage in most races. The stretch run is relatively short, making it difficult for deep closers to make up ground unless the pace is exceptionally hot.

In sprints, inside to middle post positions carry a mild advantage, allowing runners to save ground into the single turn while maintaining tactical options. Horses drawn wide must work harder to secure position, which can be costly when pace pressure develops.

For the one-mile route races (Races 2 and 6), the two-turn configuration at Mahoning Valley makes inside post positions even more valuable, as horses breaking from outside gates must navigate two turns while losing ground. Posts 1 and 2 carry a notable edge provided the horse has enough tactical speed to avoid getting shuffled back.

However, the winter months introduce a complicating factor. Freeze-thaw cycles can produce a dead rail, creating what handicappers describe as an outside flow bias where paths two to four off the fence become the preferred running lanes. Early-race observation is critical: if inside horses underperform with clean trips in Races 1 and 2, an outside-lane preference is likely in play for the remainder of the card.

On days when the track is sealed due to cold weather, the surface can act as a speed highway, giving front-runners an even stronger advantage. This is an important factor to monitor given today's cold morning start.

Race 1 — OTBO Sales Graduate Race Stakes

6 Furlongs, Dirt. Purse $50,000. Ohio Bred 3-Year-Olds (OTBO Sales Graduates). 12:15 PM EST.

Post Time: 12:15 PM

Morning Line: Dynamic Vision (4) 1/1, Mshawish'girl (6) 5/2, Legal Jargon (5) 3/1, O G Mr. Brightside (1) 10/1, Loco Coco (2) 12/1, Oak Mirna (3) 20/1

Pace Analysis

This looks like a race with moderate early pace. Dynamic Vision (4) has shown the ability to be forwardly placed and should control the tempo from the inside portion of the field. Mshawish'girl (6) also has tactical speed and could press from the outside. Legal Jargon (5) may sit just off the leaders and try to close. With the speed bias at Mahoning Valley sprints, the horse who secures the lead without heavy pressure has the edge.

Key Contenders

Dynamic Vision (4) towers over this field. Trained by Robert C. Cline, this filly won a stakes race last time out and carries the highest rating in the field at 62. She is listed as the 1/1 morning line favorite for good reason — she is a proven distance winner at this track and is far and away the class of this group. John McKee has the call from post 4, an ideal position in a six-horse field. The only concern is the very short price, but on talent alone, she is the one to beat.

Mshawish'girl (6) is the logical second choice at 5/2. Also trained by Cline, this filly broke her maiden recently and is a course-and-distance winner, making her dangerous in her own right. Victor R. Fernandez rides from the outside post 6, which is acceptable in a small field. She is the main challenger if Dynamic Vision (4) falters.

Secondary Choices

Legal Jargon (5) is the third choice at 3/1 on the morning line. Trained by Robert M. Gorham with Erik Barbaran in the irons, this gelding showed improvement on debut and could take another step forward here. Rated 50, he sits between the top two and the rest of the field in terms of ability. If the pace gets hot up front between the two Cline runners, Legal Jargon (5) could benefit from a closing move.

Longshots

O G Mr. Brightside (1) at 10/1 is trying first-time blinkers, which is always worth noting. However, this gelding is on the scratch watch after a stewards scratch on February 16 and has a lower rating. Loco Coco (2) at 12/1 and Oak Mirna (3) at 20/1 are the longest prices on the board and appear outclassed in this spot.

Betting Strategy

Dynamic Vision (4) is a deserved heavy favorite in a small, weak field. The issue is that she may go off near even money, offering little wagering value on a straight win bet. The better play is to key her on top in exactas and trifectas. An exacta of Dynamic Vision (4) over Mshawish'girl (6) and Legal Jargon (5) is the most likely outcome. A small trifecta keying Dynamic Vision (4) on top with Mshawish'girl (6), Legal Jargon (5), and O G Mr. Brightside (1) underneath provides coverage at modest cost.

Selections

Win: Dynamic Vision (4)
Place: Mshawish'girl (6)
Show: Legal Jargon (5)

Race 2 — Claiming $5,000

1 Mile, Dirt. Purse $12,200. Fillies and Mares 3YO and Up (n3L). 12:43 PM EST.

Post Time: 12:43 PM

Morning Line: Shady Nights (6) 2/1, Small Town Heroine (4) 5/2, Hazard Pay (1) 3/1, Marmara (3) 9/2, Lady Giuliana (2) 8/1, Shipshewana (5) 10/1

Pace Analysis

This is a one-mile two-turn event with a smaller field of six. Inside posts are at an advantage due to the two-turn configuration. Several of these fillies have tactical speed, and the pace should be moderate. Hazard Pay (1) from the rail could use that advantageous inside draw to secure position early. Small Town Heroine (4) should also be forwardly placed. Without a confirmed deep closer in the field, horses near the lead should control the outcome.

Key Contenders

Small Town Heroine (4) is the pick of handicappers despite being listed at 5/2 on the morning line behind Shady Nights (6). Trained by Ricardo Bailey with Rocco Bowen aboard, she has never won three races but is taking on soft competition here. Bailey has two entries in this race (also training Hazard Pay (1)), giving this barn a strong chance to win.

Hazard Pay (1) draws the rail in a two-turn mile, which is a significant advantage. Also trained by Bailey with T.D. Houghton riding, she has shown competitiveness in recent starts. The inside post should allow her to save ground through both turns. Handicappers give her a solid chance at 3/1.

Secondary Choices

Shady Nights (6) is the 2/1 morning line favorite, trained by Justine Eder with Angel I. Diaz in the irons. While favored on the line, she draws the widest post in a route race at Mahoning Valley, which works against her. She will need to overcome the outside draw in a two-turn mile, which is a legitimate concern.

Marmara (3) at 9/2 is trained by Manuel Vlaun with Chelsey Keiser aboard. She draws a middle post that should give her tactical options. This is a live middle-odds contender who could sneak into the exotics.

Longshots

Lady Giuliana (2) at 8/1 represents the Skerrett father-son jockey-trainer combination. She draws a favorable inside post and could outrun her odds if the pace sets up. Shipshewana (5) at 10/1 is trained by Robert M. Gorham but appears a step below.

Betting Strategy

This race offers more wagering value than Race 1. The Bailey barn has two shots with Small Town Heroine (4) and Hazard Pay (1), making a Bailey exacta (in either order) an interesting play. Key both Bailey runners on top of the trifecta with Shady Nights (6) and Marmara (3) filling out the bottom. Given the post position disadvantage of Shady Nights (6), she may drift to a more attractive price than her 2/1 morning line.

Selections

Win: Small Town Heroine (4)
Place: Hazard Pay (1)
Show: Marmara (3)

Race 3 — Maiden Special Weight

6 Furlongs, Dirt. Purse $31,800. Ohio Bred Maiden Fillies and Mares 3-6 YO. 1:11 PM EST.

Post Time: 1:11 PM

Morning Line: Spectacular Tango (6) 8/5, Exponentially (3) 2/1, Dollar Dance (4) 9/2, Honor Quest (2) 6/1, Justworthashot (5) 8/1, Tier Ones Legacy (1) 10/1

Pace Analysis

There should be moderate pace here with several runners showing tactical speed. Spectacular Tango (6) has been forwardly placed in her races and could look to press the pace. Exponentially (3) typically sits mid-pack. Dollar Dance (4) has shown the ability to stalk and close. In a maiden race with horses still learning their craft, the pace scenario is less predictable. Watch for Spectacular Tango (6) to try to steal it on the front end, especially if first-time blinkers sharpen her focus.

Key Contenders

Spectacular Tango (6) is the 8/5 morning line favorite, trained by David Wolochuk with Chelsey Keiser riding. She narrowly missed out last time and gets first-time blinkers today, which is a significant equipment change that often brings improvement. Her rating of 41 is solid for this group, and the formscan tabs her as the horse to beat. However, she is on the scratch watch after a veterinarian scratch on February 12, so confirmation of her entry is essential before wagering.

Exponentially (3) at 2/1 is the most intriguing horse in this race. Trained by national-caliber conditioner Michael J. Maker with Luis Raul Rivera aboard, this five-year-old mare has the backing of a top operation rarely seen at the Mahoning Valley maiden level. She has shown form at this track with multiple placings (including third and seventh-place finishes in recent starts) but has not been able to break through. The Maker name carries weight, and this mare may be ready for a breakthrough.

Secondary Choices

Dollar Dance (4) at 9/2 is trained by Saul M. Morales with Fernando Salazar Becerra riding. She has been knocking on the door with several placed efforts and was selected as a BRISnet spot play for this race. Her consistency gives her a strong chance to hit the board, and she could surprise at a decent price.

Honor Quest (2) at 6/1 is trained by Robert M. Gorham with Erik Barbaran in the irons. With a rating of 43, she actually has the highest number in the field and could improve. This is a contender who should not be dismissed.

Longshots

Justworthashot (5) at 8/1 has shown some ability but carries the lowest rating (28) and faces a tough ask. Tier Ones Legacy (1) at 10/1 has been struggling in her recent starts, finishing well back in her last two outings.

Betting Strategy

This is the start of the Buckeye Pick 6 sequence (Races 3-8). If Spectacular Tango (6) scratches, Exponentially (3) becomes the clear favorite. The race sets up as a good spread in multi-race wagers. Use Exponentially (3) and Dollar Dance (4) as the primary tickets, with Spectacular Tango (6) included if she draws in. An exacta box of Exponentially (3), Spectacular Tango (6), and Dollar Dance (4) is a reasonable play.

Selections

Win: Exponentially (3)
Place: Spectacular Tango (6)
Show: Dollar Dance (4)

Race 4 — Claiming $5,000

6 Furlongs, Dirt. Purse $15,400. Fillies and Mares 3YO and Up. 1:39 PM EST.

Post Time: 1:39 PM

Morning Line: Mali Bali (1) 5/2, G'day Lady (4) 3/1, Remember Me (6) 5/1, Princessofthenorth (2) 6/1, Living In Style (3) 15/1, O Shaughesey (5) [no line listed]

Pace Analysis

Mali Bali (1) from the rail should be able to use her inside draw to control the pace in this sprint. G'day Lady (4) carries top weight at 126 lbs and has enough speed to sit close. The pace should be honest but not suicidal in a short field. The rail draw favors Mali Bali (1), especially at a track that rewards inside speed.

Key Contenders

Mali Bali (1) is the morning line favorite at 5/2, trained by Saul M. Morales with Fernando Salazar Becerra in the irons. Drawing the rail in a six-furlong sprint is ideal at Mahoning Valley, where inside speed is rewarded. She showed recent form and gets the ideal trip setup. Handicappers are unanimous in supporting her as the top choice.

G'day Lady (4) at 3/1 is trained by Jevon D. Crumley with Chelsey Keiser aboard. She carries top weight of 126 lbs but has the quality to overcome the impost. She has distance form and should be close to the pace throughout.

Secondary Choices

Remember Me (6) at 5/1 is also trained by Crumley, giving this barn two chances. Alexander Crispin has the mount from the outside. She could offer some value at a price.

Princessofthenorth (2) at 6/1 is trained by Johanna Urieta with Irwin J. Rosendo riding. She draws favorably in post 2, just outside Mali Bali (1), and could benefit from a ground-saving trip.

Longshots

Living In Style (3) at 15/1 is on the scratch watch and has been struggling. O Shaughesey (5) with Agustin Bracho aboard is trained by Jose Bracho Jr. and appears up against it here.

Betting Strategy

Mali Bali (1) is the logical single in this race for multi-race wagers if looking to save tickets. For exactas, key Mali Bali (1) on top with G'day Lady (4) and Remember Me (6) filling out the underneath spots. In the Pick 6, this is a race to try to single or go narrow.

Selections

Win: Mali Bali (1)
Place: G'day Lady (4)
Show: Remember Me (6)

Race 5 — Claiming $5,000

6 Furlongs, Dirt. Purse $15,400. 3YO and Up (Ohio Registered Foals Preferred). 2:07 PM EST.

Post Time: 2:07 PM

Morning Line: Poppy's Pride (2) 5/2, Unpredictable Bay (5) 3/1, Trikitraki (3) 7/2, Smokin' Hot (6) 4/1, Blue Max (1) 9/2, I'll Figure It Out (4) 8/1, Dream Knight (99) [no line listed]

Pace Analysis

This is the most competitive race on the card with a full field of seasoned claimers. There is significant early speed signed on. Blue Max (1) from the rail has tactical speed. Poppy's Pride (2) also shows pace. Trikitraki (3) has the ability to press or stalk. Smokin' Hot (6) closed to finish second last time. This sets up for a contested pace that could benefit a stalker or closer, though the Mahoning Valley speed bias still makes front-runners dangerous. The key question is whether Trikitraki (3) starts — he is on the scratch watch.

Key Contenders

Trikitraki (3) at 7/2 was the BRISnet spot play selection for this race. Trained by Jay P. Bernardini, a former leading trainer at this meet, with Erik Barbaran aboard, this seven-year-old gelding won his last start impressively on February 12 at 5 1/2 furlongs in sloppy conditions, defeating Smokin' Hot (6) in that race. He carries the highest rating among the group at 85 and has proven himself in this class. The only concern is the scratch watch from a cancelled race on February 10, so confirm his entry.

Poppy's Pride (2) at 5/2 is the morning line favorite, trained by Caryn Vecchio with Fernando Salazar Becerra riding. He won last time out over course and distance with a rating of 88, the highest in the field. A horse who won last out at the same track and distance always demands respect.

Secondary Choices

Unpredictable Bay (5) at 3/1 is trained by Nestor R. Rivera with Alexander Chavez aboard. He has a course-and-distance form record and a rating of 85. Handicappers have him as a top choice, and he offers a solid each-way option.

Smokin' Hot (6) at 4/1 is trained by Justin Radosevich with Jose A. Bracho riding. He finished a close second in his most recent start behind Trikitraki (3) on February 12. He could turn the tables if the pace scenario plays differently today.

Longshots

Blue Max (1) at 9/2 draws the rail, which helps. Trained by Kevin Buttigieg with Angel I. Diaz, he has the post position advantage in a sprint and a rating of 84. He is not truly a longshot but offers value if the pace collapses. I'll Figure It Out (4) at 8/1 is trained by the Skerrett father-son team and won on November 4 but has been inconsistent since. Dream Knight (99) has no listed morning line and comes from the also-eligible list.

Betting Strategy

This is the most contentious race on the card and the key spread race in the Pick 6 sequence. Use Trikitraki (3), Poppy's Pride (2), and Unpredictable Bay (5) as the A horses, with Smokin' Hot (6) and Blue Max (1) as B horses. A trifecta box of the top three is reasonable, and adding Smokin' Hot (6) for a superfecta key makes sense.

Selections

Win: Trikitraki (3)
Place: Poppy's Pride (2)
Show: Unpredictable Bay (5)

Race 6 — Claiming $7,500

1 Mile, Dirt. Purse $14,900. 3YO and Up (n4L, Ohio Registered Foals Preferred). 2:35 PM EST.

Post Time: 2:35 PM

Morning Line: All My Life (3) 8/5, Tetched (6) 2/1, Pittsburgh (1) 5/2, Citizen (4) 10/1, Royally Flushed (5) 12/1, Finistere (7) 15/1, Kykeon (2) 20/1

Pace Analysis

Another one-mile two-turn event where inside posts matter. Pittsburgh (1) draws the rail and has enough tactical speed to take advantage of that draw. Tetched (6) typically races on or near the lead. All My Life (3) draws a middle post. The pace should be moderate with two or three runners contesting the lead, setting up a potential race-long battle between the top three in the betting.

Key Contenders

Tetched (6) at 2/1 is trained by Anthony Farrior with Luis Raul Rivera in the irons. He has been consistent in this class, winning multiple races at Mahoning Valley including a score on January 5. He was favored in a February 10 race and rates next best in the formscan. Handicappers across multiple platforms peg him as a top choice. His consistency makes him dangerous.

All My Life (3) at 8/5 is the actual morning line favorite. Trained by Caryn Vecchio (who also has Finistere (7) in this race) with Angel I. Diaz riding, this four-year-old gelding carries a rating of 83, the highest in the field. His most recent form has been inconsistent with DaCosta previously training him, but the class edge is there. He also gets first-time blinkers, which could be the key to unlocking his potential.

Secondary Choices

Pittsburgh (1) at 5/2 draws the coveted rail post in a two-turn mile. Trained by Robert C. Cline with Victor R. Fernandez aboard, he narrowly missed last time and has course-and-distance form. The inside draw is a tangible advantage in this configuration. Do not dismiss him.

Longshots

Citizen (4) at 10/1 is trained by Craig Sweeting and has a rating of 68, making him a clear class drop below the top three. Royally Flushed (5) at 12/1 and Finistere (7) at 15/1 are longer shots. Kykeon (2) at 20/1 is the rank outsider.

Betting Strategy

The top three — All My Life (3), Tetched (6), and Pittsburgh (1) — are clearly the class of this race. In the Pick 6, this is a three-horse spread at most. An exacta box of the top three is reasonable. Pittsburgh (1) with the rail draw could offer the best value if All My Life (3) and Tetched (6) absorb the public money.

Selections

Win: Tetched (6)
Place: Pittsburgh (1)
Show: All My Life (3)

Race 7 — Allowance

5 1/2 Furlongs, Dirt. Purse $40,900. Ohio Bred Fillies 3YO. 3:03 PM EST.

Post Time: 3:03 PM

Morning Line: Kontiki (4) 4/5, Miss Elecktra (1) 5/2, Dunn's River (5) 5/1, All Pepped Up (3) 8/1, Striking Lady (2) 15/1, Perfect Angel (6) 20/1

Pace Analysis

This is the featured race of the day at the allowance level. Miss Elecktra (1) showed good tactical speed in her last win on February 17. Kontiki (4) has the class to be placed anywhere and could stalk or press. All Pepped Up (3) chased Miss Elecktra (1) last time. Dunn's River (5) has some speed. The pace should be honest with Miss Elecktra (1) likely leading or pressing, and Kontiki (4) sitting in a stalking position. The short stretch at 5 1/2 furlongs makes early position critical.

Key Contenders

Kontiki (4) is the dominant morning line favorite at 4/5. Trained by Brad Cox — one of the top trainers in North America with 22 wins from 70 starts in the last 21 days — this filly represents Stonestreet Stables and is by Midshipman, a sire known for producing precocious, two-time stakes winners. Kontiki (4) carries the highest rating in the field at 82 and has strong form from higher-level competition. She was beaten as the favorite last time, but the formscan expects a bounce-back effort. Fernando De La Cruz has the call from post 4.

Miss Elecktra (1) at 5/2 is the local hope from the Jason DaCosta barn. She won impressively at this course on February 17, drawing clear to beat All Pepped Up (3) as the 13/8 favorite. DaCosta scored a notable one-two finish at Mahoning Valley on January 2 and has been active at the meet. Alexander Chavez rides from the rail, which is an acceptable draw at 5 1/2 furlongs. She is a course-and-distance winner and the proven commodity in this field at this venue.

Secondary Choices

All Pepped Up (3) at 8/1 is trained by Robert M. Gorham with Fernando Salazar Becerra riding. She finished second to Miss Elecktra (1) on February 17 and has a distance win to her name from November 24 when she was a dominant 1/3 favorite. If she can improve upon that runner-up effort, she could fill out trifectas.

Dunn's River (5) at 5/1 is trained by Ricardo Bailey with T.D. Houghton aboard. She is a course-and-distance winner and has a right to be in the mix, though her rating of 50 puts her below the top two.

Longshots

Striking Lady (2) at 15/1 is also trained by Bailey and has shown some form at the distance. Perfect Angel (6) at 20/1 is a DaCosta runner with a rating of 58 but faces a steep class challenge against Kontiki (4) and Miss Elecktra (1).

Betting Strategy

This race presents a classic class versus form scenario. Kontiki (4) has the highest class level and the top national trainer, but she was beaten as the favorite last time and is shipping in from a different base to compete at a small Ohio track. Miss Elecktra (1) has won here impressively and has the home-court advantage. At 5/2, Miss Elecktra (1) represents the better wagering value against a short-priced Kontiki (4). An exacta with both on top in both directions is the play. A trifecta keying Kontiki (4) and Miss Elecktra (1) on top with All Pepped Up (3) and Dunn's River (5) filling third is a strong structure.

Selections

Win: Kontiki (4)
Place: Miss Elecktra (1)
Show: All Pepped Up (3)

Race 8 — Maiden Special Weight

6 Furlongs, Dirt. Purse $31,800. Ohio Bred Maidens 3-6 YO. 3:31 PM EST.

Post Time: 3:31 PM

Morning Line: Bumper Sticker (4) 5/2, Wild Domain (1) 3/1, Ripman (9) 4/1, See Ya Alligator (8) 5/1, Silver B B (2) 8/1, Dynamic Victory (7) 10/1, Kettle Coalmine (6) 12/1, Cindy's Last Song (5) 15/1, Lucy's First Song (3) 20/1

Pace Analysis

This is the largest field of the day with nine declared runners. The pace could be contentious with several horses likely looking to go forward. Wild Domain (1) draws the rail and should be placed on or near the lead early. Bumper Sticker (4) has pace ability from a mid-draw. Ripman (9) is drawn wide and may need to use some energy to get into position. The large field and wide outside draws for some key contenders could create traffic trouble, favoring horses with inside posts or clean early trips.

Key Contenders

Wild Domain (1) at 3/1 is trained by Jason DaCosta with Luis Alberto Batista in the irons. He gets first-time blinkers today, which is a key equipment addition for a horse that has been consistently placed but unable to break through in six career starts. The formscan tabs him as the one to beat based on his placed form. He has finished second and third repeatedly, and the blinker addition could be the catalyst for a maiden-breaking effort. The rail draw is favorable.

Bumper Sticker (4) at 5/2 is the morning line favorite, trained by Robert M. Gorham with Erik Barbaran riding. He has shown promise in higher-class races and carries a rating of 40. Gorham is a reliable local trainer, and this horse has enough form to justify his position at the top of the market. Handicappers from multiple outlets support him as the pick.

Secondary Choices

Ripman (9) at 4/1 draws the far outside post in a nine-horse field, which is a disadvantage in a six-furlong sprint at Mahoning Valley. However, this three-year-old gelding has a weight advantage (118 lbs vs. 126 for the older horses) and carries the highest rating in the field at 49. If he can overcome the wide draw, he has the talent. Trained by Richard Zielinski with Brandon Tapara, he is a live contender despite the post.

See Ya Alligator (8) at 5/1 finished a good second last time out and is trained by Christian Flores with Angel I. Diaz aboard. He draws post 8, which is wide but not as extreme as post 9. He could outrun his odds.

Longshots

Silver B B (2) at 8/1 draws post 2, right next to Wild Domain (1), and is trained by Stephen J. Richards with Alexander Chavez riding. He is an interesting newcomer type. Dynamic Victory (7) at 10/1 trained by Agustin Gonzalez Jr. has a rating of 41 and has some appeal at a price. Kettle Coalmine (6) at 12/1, Cindy's Last Song (5) at 15/1 (on the scratch watch for a gate issue), and Lucy's First Song (3) at 20/1 are the rank outsiders.

Betting Strategy

This is the final leg of the Buckeye Pick 6 and a wide-open maiden race. Wild Domain (1) with the blinker addition and rail draw is the value play against the morning line favorite Bumper Sticker (4). Use at least three or four horses in multi-race sequences. An exacta box of Wild Domain (1), Bumper Sticker (4), and Ripman (9) is a strong foundation. In the superfecta, add See Ya Alligator (8) and Dynamic Victory (7) for depth.

Selections

Win: Wild Domain (1)
Place: Bumper Sticker (4)
Show: Ripman (9)

Jockey Notes and Insights

Fernando Salazar Becerra has a busy day with mounts in Races 1, 3, 4, 5, and 7, including key contenders Dollar Dance (4) in Race 3, Mali Bali (1) in Race 4, Poppy's Pride (2) in Race 5, and All Pepped Up (3) in Race 7. He has been a go-to rider at Mahoning Valley this season and showed his skill when guiding DaCosta's Gallant Groom to a debut win on January 2.

Erik Barbaran rides three horses today including Legal Jargon (5) in Race 1, Honor Quest (2) in Race 3, and the important Trikitraki (3) in Race 5 as the BRISnet spot play, plus Bumper Sticker (4) in Race 8. His connection with the Gorham and Bernardini barns gives him quality mounts throughout the card.

Alexander Chavez has three key mounts: Unpredictable Bay (5) in Race 5, Miss Elecktra (1) in Race 7, and Silver B B (2) in Race 8. His assignment on Miss Elecktra (1) in the featured allowance race is notable, as he guides the main local hope against the Brad Cox invader.

Luis Raul Rivera picks up the mount on the Maker-trained Exponentially (3) in Race 3 and the consistent Tetched (6) in Race 6. Rivera is an experienced hand at this circuit and has the tools to get the best from both runners.

Angel I. Diaz has mounts in Races 5, 6, and 8, including the morning line favorite All My Life (3) in Race 6 and See Ya Alligator (8) in Race 8. He carries a reliable strike rate and is worth following in the exotics.

Luis Alberto Batista rides both Wild Domain (1) in Race 8 and Perfect Angel (6) in Race 7 for the DaCosta barn. Batista has been the leading jockey at prior Mahoning Valley meets and his connection with DaCosta is a strong indicator of stable confidence.

Fernando De La Cruz has the high-profile assignment aboard Kontiki (4) in Race 7 for Brad Cox. De La Cruz has accumulated over $1.2 million in earnings for 2026 nationally and brings a professional's touch to this Ohio allowance.

Rocco Bowen rides Small Town Heroine (4) in Race 2 for Ricardo Bailey. Bowen has been competitive in the jockey standings at Mahoning Valley and has won titles at multiple tracks.

Trainer Notes and Insights

Brad Cox is the most accomplished trainer on the card. His national operation boasts 22 wins from 70 starts over the last 21 days entering today's card. He sends Kontiki (4) to Race 7 for Stonestreet Stables, and his presence at a small Ohio track signals confidence. Cox has previously won Grade 1 races nationally and his involvement elevates the class of this allowance considerably.

Jason DaCosta has been an active force at Mahoning Valley during the 2025-2026 winter-spring meet. He scored a notable one-two finish on January 2 with Gallant Groom and Suzie Q's Sister. His recent form shows wins with Gunner Gabriel (January 21), Cool Couple (January 13), and Miss Elecktra (February 17). He runs Miss Elecktra (1) and Perfect Angel (6) in Race 7 and Wild Domain (1) in Race 8. The first-time blinkers on Wild Domain (1) are a key move from his barn.

Robert M. Gorham is one of the most active trainers on today's card with runners in five races: Legal Jargon (5) in Race 1, Shipshewana (5) in Race 2, Honor Quest (2) in Race 3, All Pepped Up (3) in Race 7, and Bumper Sticker (4) in Race 8. Gorham is a perennial contender for the training title at Mahoning Valley and his volume gives him multiple chances to score.

Ricardo Bailey doubles up in two races: Hazard Pay (1) and Small Town Heroine (4) in Race 2, and Striking Lady (2) and Dunn's River (5) in Race 7. Having two runners in a race gives this barn tactical flexibility and increases its chances. Watch the board action on Bailey's entries for clues about which one the stable prefers.

Robert C. Cline also doubles up in Race 1 with Dynamic Vision (4) and Mshawish'girl (6), plus has Pittsburgh (1) in Race 6. His two entries in the stakes opener make him the trainer most likely to win the day's richest race.

Jay P. Bernardini, a former leading trainer at Mahoning Valley, sends out Trikitraki (3) in Race 5. Bernardini won his seventh career training title at this track in 2023 and remains a consistent presence. The BRISnet spot play on Trikitraki (3) aligns with the confidence this barn typically inspires.

Michael J. Maker has Exponentially (3) in Race 3. Maker is a nationally prominent trainer whose appearance in a Mahoning Valley maiden special weight is noteworthy. If this mare is close to ready, the Maker name alone adds credibility to her chances.

Caryn Vecchio has four entries across the card: Poppy's Pride (2) and Dream Knight (99) in Race 5, and All My Life (3) and Finistere (7) in Race 6. Her volume gives her multiple angles, with Poppy's Pride (2) and All My Life (3) being the primary hopes.

Best Wagering Strategies and Value Plays

The overall card structure offers several clear strategies for the sophisticated handicapper.

The Buckeye Pick 6 (Races 3-8) is the centerpiece wager of the day. The optimal approach is to single or go narrow in the races with strong favorites and spread in the contentious races. Race 4 (Mali Bali (1)) is the best single candidate. Race 5 is the widest race on the card and requires at least three to four horses. Race 7 can be played with two (Kontiki (4) and Miss Elecktra (1)). Race 8 needs at least three (Wild Domain (1), Bumper Sticker (4), and Ripman (9)).

A suggested Pick 6 ticket structure at the $0.20 base:

Race 3: Exponentially (3), Spectacular Tango (6), Dollar Dance (4) — 3 horses
Race 4: Mali Bali (1) — 1 horse (single)
Race 5: Trikitraki (3), Poppy's Pride (2), Unpredictable Bay (5), Smokin' Hot (6) — 4 horses
Race 6: Tetched (6), Pittsburgh (1), All My Life (3) — 3 horses
Race 7: Kontiki (4), Miss Elecktra (1) — 2 horses
Race 8: Wild Domain (1), Bumper Sticker (4), Ripman (9) — 3 horses

Total combinations: 3 x 1 x 4 x 3 x 2 x 3 = 216 combinations at $0.20 = $43.20

The best value play of the day is Miss Elecktra (1) in Race 7 at 5/2 on the morning line. Against a short-priced Kontiki (4), she offers legitimate win value as a proven course-and-distance winner coming off an impressive victory. If the board pushes Kontiki (4) down to even money, Miss Elecktra (1) could drift to 3/1 or better, making her an overlay.

The second-best value play is Wild Domain (1) in Race 8 at 3/1 on the morning line. The first-time blinker addition from the DaCosta barn, combined with the rail draw and consistent placed form, makes him a strong candidate to finally break his maiden at a fair price.

In Race 5, Trikitraki (3) at 7/2 as the BRISnet spot play offers value, especially if Poppy's Pride (2) absorbs the majority of the public money as the 5/2 favorite. Trikitraki (3) beat Smokin' Hot (6) impressively last time and has the running style to benefit from the Mahoning Valley speed bias.

The daily doubles offer further angles. The Race 1/2 double pairing Dynamic Vision (4) with Small Town Heroine (4) and Hazard Pay (1) gives exposure to the Bailey barn's strong position in Race 2 off a near-certain Race 1 winner. The late double connecting Race 7 and Race 8 pairing Miss Elecktra (1) with Wild Domain (1) would be an all-DaCosta double that could pay handsomely if both come through at their morning line prices.

The Pick 5 (Races 4-8) at its 15% takeout rate is worth targeting. Using Mali Bali (1) as a single in Race 4, spreading Race 5 widely, going three deep in Race 6, two deep in Race 7, and three deep in Race 8 creates a manageable ticket with favorable takeout math.
