Don’t forget , , and !

Santa Anita Park presents a nine-race card featuring a mix of starter optional claiming, open claiming, allowance optional claiming, a graded stakes sprint down the hillside turf, and maiden races that create several key form and pace scenarios across both turf and dirt. The Grade 3 San Simeon Stakes in Race 3 is the feature event, drawing a compact but high-quality group of turf sprinters down the 6½-furlong hillside course. The remainder of the program includes multiple Cal-bred features on turf and dirt, as well as competitive claiming and starter events that provide depth and variability across the card.

Recent meet trends point to solid participation from major local barns, with several runners coming out of key races earlier in the meet or returning from short freshenings with strong work patterns, particularly for leading turf outfits. Handicappers have identified Races 1, 3, 7, and 9 as particularly strong from a form and value perspective, with notable opinions about pace and class advantages in those events.

Weather and Track Conditions

Weather forecasts for the Arcadia area call for a dry, sunny afternoon with temperatures in the upper 70s to near 80 degrees and light winds around 5 mph, creating ideal racing conditions. After earlier-season wet weather, the pattern has shifted to clear skies, and both the main track and turf course are expected to be in standard fast and firm condition. The synthetic training track has absorbed much of the workload during prior storms, helping to preserve the main track's consistency on race days, and all turf races, including the hillside event, are expected to remain on grass.

Track Bias and Post Position Bias

Recent data indicate that the Santa Anita main track has been playing relatively fair, with a mild preference toward horses with tactical speed, particularly in sprints from 6 to 7 furlongs where forward runners and pressers have a slight edge. In dirt routes at a mile and beyond, pace-pressers and stalkers just off the lead have performed best, while rail-speed has occasionally been dangerous when able to control a moderate pace.

On turf, the hillside 6½-furlong course, used in Race 3, has continued to reward mid-pack or tracking types who can sustain a long, well-timed run through the course's undulations and across the dirt crossing. Inside posts on the hill are not a major disadvantage, though middle draws can make it easier to secure ideal stalking position. In flat turf sprints and routes, inside to mid posts (1–7) have shown a modest statistical edge, but trip and pace have usually been more decisive than post alone.

Race Notes and Contenders

Race 1 – Starter Optional Claiming – 6 Furlongs Turf

Pace projects as moderate with limited committed early speed, favoring tactical runners capable of sitting near the front. Nikolina (2) has tactical speed and exits a maiden win that positions her well to either control or press a soft pace against largely late-running rivals. Rehearsal (3) cuts back from routes and brings a strong late kick and class level suitable for this starter condition.

Skatingthroughlife (4) is a consistent mare who fits the level and has enough tactical pace to track the leaders and finish reliably in the money. Wildfire Princess (1) can secure an inside stalking trip but tends to be more of an underneath type. Not A Sinner (6), Lady Maryann (5), and Rich Of Joy (7) all shape as mid-pack to deeper closers who may be pace-dependent and better suited to minor awards in a race without obvious early speed.

Race 2 – Claiming – 1 Mile Dirt

In this small five-horse field, pace dynamics are heavily tactical, with Rousing Jewel (1) and Perfect Life (4) likely to vie for or share the lead and A Rousing Babe (5) tracking just behind them. Rousing Jewel (1) fits the 10,000 claiming condition well and benefits from the rail and a rider who can secure an advantageous inside trip. Tiergarten (2) is an older mare with grinding stamina who can take advantage if the leaders soften each other.

A Rousing Babe (5) is a pressing type who should get a favorable outside-stalking position, and Perfect Life (4), though lightly raced, owns enough speed and upside to serve as another pace factor or stalker. Love Our Family (3) appears more as an underneath contender, needing improvement and a favorable trip to threaten the top positions.

Race 3 – San Simeon Stakes (G3) – 6½ Furlongs Downhill Turf

The San Simeon has a compact but deep six-horse field where pace should be honest but not extreme, with Sumter (1), Gran Oriente (4), and Seal Team (5) likely to contest forward positions. Seal Team (5) returns from a layoff as a lightly raced but class-proven turf horse whose recent works and connections suggest readiness for this sprint distance, and he profiles as a tactical stalker with a strong finishing punch. Sumter (1) is a versatile stakes performer with inside speed and an experienced hill rider, giving him a ground-saving trip and the option to control or press the pace.

Genius Jimmy (3) is a consistent runner with a reliable late kick who fits on figures and can capitalize if the Mandella pair underperform or the pace is stronger than anticipated. Sorrento Sky (6) has mid-pack tactical speed and represents a dangerous secondary contender for a barn that does well with turf imports and adaptable runners. Quereme Pass (2) and Gran Oriente (4) bring stakes credentials but appear a notch below the top two on overall profile, though both are capable of hitting the board with suitable trips.

Race 4 – Claiming – 1 Mile Dirt

This non-winners-of-three claiming mile features multiple forward types in Malibu Rocks (1) and Mighty Kai (3), with Dark Marcus (2) and Mongolian Max (4) capable of stalking just behind and Elegant Life (5) and Last Call Paul (6) sitting mid-pack. Mighty Kai (3) combines tactical speed and route stamina, making him well-positioned to either press or sit just off Malibu Rocks (1) before making a move. Last Call Paul (6) has an outside post and a stalking style that should allow him to track the primary speed and launch late.

Malibu Rocks (1) is a rail-speed type who can be dangerous if he is able to control the fractions but has shown some vulnerability in the final furlong under pressure. Mongolian Max (4) is a mid-pack runner with some upside for a barn that occasionally scores at nice prices in these claiming routes. Dark Marcus (2) and Elegant Life (5) project more as underneath players, with Elegant Life (5) receiving a weight break that might help him hang on for a share if he can stay within range.

Race 5 – Allowance Optional Claiming – 6 Furlongs Turf (Cal-bred)

This large 11-horse Cal-bred turf sprint has multiple early-speed and pressing types in Bro Bro (2), Dynodave (4), Its A Cinch (5), and Tiz's Harbor (10), setting the stage for a lively pace. Maury Wills (6) stands out as a tactically versatile contender from a leading turf barn, able to sit behind the speed and deliver a late run in a pace-rich scenario. Grazed (11) is an experienced older gelding with a strong late kick whose outside draw may help him avoid traffic and launch widest down the lane.

Its A Cinch (5) is a pace-pressing type who can stay on longer than many front-runners if he gets a clean trip. Chromeflash (1) must break alertly from the rail but can secure a ground-saving stalking position. Raging Waters (7) and Disko Tribute (8) provide late-running depth, while Double Jab (9) and Tiz's Harbor (10) add additional pace and mid-pack threats. Frank Bullitt (3) appears to be a longer-price option with some potential to improve, making him of interest for minor awards in a strongly paced race.

Race 6 – Maiden Claiming – 6 Furlongs Dirt

This six-horse maiden claimer has a relatively straightforward pace picture, with Treximo (1) and Nash For Cash (2) likely to show early speed from inside posts, and Soi Ngern (4) and Charmz Away (5) pressing from the outside. Treximo (1) benefits from the rail draw and prior experience at the level, making him a logical pace presence and top contender if he breaks cleanly. Kid Dynasty (3) is positioned to improve and has a solid rider, projecting a stalking trip just behind the front group.

Nash For Cash (2) is a younger runner with a weight break who could be the quickest away and difficult to reel in if left alone on the lead. Soi Ngern (4), Charmz Away (5), and Cosmic Trail (6) all occupy roles as secondary or underneath contenders, with Cosmic Trail (6) having the advantage of an outside post and light weight which may help if the inside speed types tire late.

Race 7 – Allowance Optional Claiming – 1 Mile Turf

Race 7 is a deep and competitive turf allowance/optional claimer featuring a strong group of four-year-olds and older horses. Iron Man Cal (4) and Balladeer (5) are expected to contribute most to the early pace, with Namaron (2) and Tempus Volat (3) likely to stalk just behind them. Tempus Volat (3) exits a key Grade 2 Mathis Mile placing and brings that class into this softer allowance spot, combining tactical speed and a strong finishing kick that aligns well with the projected pace.

Iron Man Cal (4) is lightly raced with upside and could prove dangerous if allowed to control or attend a moderate pace on the front end. Namaron (2) has a ground-saving stalking style and should sit just behind the leaders along the rail. Lord Bullingdon (6), Deer District (8), Rastaman Vibe (9), Captain Choochies (7), Grogu (1), and Centrodelantero (10) are deeper closers or mid-pack runners with varying degrees of late kick and form, providing significant depth to the field. Grogu (1), in particular, has been noted as consistently competitive at the meet and can be a longshot factor if he works out a rail-skimming trip.

Race 8 – Allowance Optional Claiming – 6½ Furlongs Dirt (Fillies and Mares)

This compact six-horse filly and mare sprint features several pace players and mid-pack stalkers. Artisma (1) and No Cap (2) are likely to vie for control early from the inside posts, while Scary Fast Ride (3) can sit just off their flanks. Into The Hall (6) has a favorable outside draw and a versatile style that allows her to press or stalk while avoiding traffic, making her a key contender in what should be an honestly run race.

Scary Fast Ride (3) retains enough ability and tactical position to capitalize if the inside speeds weaken late. Oveta's Hobby (4) and Our Moonlight (5) are more mid-pack runners who may be better suited to picking up minor awards unless the pace scenario strongly favors closers.

Race 9 – Maiden Special Weight – 6 Furlongs Turf (Cal-bred 3yo Fillies)

The finale is a 14-horse Cal-bred maiden turf sprint and one of the deepest and most open races on the card. Several fillies project to contribute to a strong early pace: Grazeninthegrass (2), Kool Mariah (4), Up For The Hunt (7), A Great Shaking (8), Midnight Cowgirl (10), and possibly Jackpot Clover (12) all have speed to vie for early positions. Balaza (3) is identified by handicappers as a key filly with a stalking style and strong turf sprint connections, well placed to sit just behind the speed and launch a ground-saving rally from her inside-mid post.

Grazeninthegrass (2) from the inside brings speed and a positive turf barn, giving her a chance to control or press the pace while saving ground. Midnight Cowgirl (10) has tactical speed and comes from a barn with strong recent turf and sprint results, making her a major player despite the middle-outside draw. Kool Mariah (4) and She's No Quant (5) are secondary contenders, both capable of stalking and finishing if trips break their way.

A Great Shaking (8), Melba Montgomery (9), Jackpot Clover (12), Furia (11), Conquest Sue (13), and Danzing Daisy (14) provide depth as mid-pack or closing types who can pick up pieces or upset if the early fractions are hot and the field strings out. Ohmyom (1), Intuitivebynature (6), and Up For The Hunt (7) add further complexity, with Up for the Hunt (7) a potential pace-driven longshot who could hang on for a share if she breaks sharply and avoids excessive early pressure.
