Counts starts in the last 10 races at today's diStance (within ±220 yards) where a stretch position and finish position are both recorded. FADES_LATE fires when the horse finished in a worse position than its stretch call in 60% or more of those starts. This pattern indicates a horse that routinely runs out of oxygen or muscle glycogen in the final furlongs at today's distance. Unlike a single bad race, a consistent fading pattern across multiple starts at the same distance is a reliable predictor of the same outcome today.
