WILL ROGERS DOWNS — RACE DAY OVERVIEW

April 20, 2026

Will Rogers Downs in Claremore, Oklahoma opens its spring meet in earnest with a nine-race Sunday card loaded with maiden claimers, straight claimers, and one maiden special weight event. The meet draws a familiar cast of regional trainers and jockeys who compete regularly at WRD and neighboring Oklahoma tracks, with several stable patterns worth noting before the first post at 2:15 PM Central time.

Steve F. Williams is the dominant barn on this card, entering horses in seven of nine races. His volume operation gives him a significant statistical edge in win percentage on the grounds, and his use of multiple jockeys — Richard E. Eramia, Leandro R. Goncalves, and A.O. Stanley chief among them — provides additional angles for the handicapper. Scott E. Young also has multiple entries across the card and enters the afternoon as one of the more reliable conditioners at the meet. The Buehrer and Bravo barns round out the trainer names to watch.

Leandro R. Goncalves enters the day as arguably the hottest rider at the meet, and David Cabrera maintains his status as one of the most sought-after jockeys at WRD. Richard E. Eramia is tied closely to the Williams barn and will be a constant factor throughout the afternoon.

No major scratches have been reported ahead of first post, and the field sizes remain as listed on the official card. The day's card features a mix of turf-adjacent surface maidens, veteran claimers, and green first-time or lightly raced horses, which makes pace and class analysis particularly important at this level.

WEATHER AND TRACK CONDITIONS

Claremore, Oklahoma on April 20, 2026 is forecast to see partly cloudy skies with temperatures climbing into the upper 60s to low 70s Fahrenheit by early afternoon. Winds are expected out of the south-southeast at 10 to 15 miles per hour with occasional gusts. No precipitation is expected during the card, and the track maintenance crew at Will Rogers Downs is anticipated to have the main track rated as fast by first post.

Will Rogers Downs features a 7/8-mile oval dirt main track. The surface tends to play fair to slightly speed-favoring under dry, fast conditions, particularly in sprint races. After several days of dry and seasonably warm weather heading into race day, the strip should be firm and consistent from rail to middle path, with no significant bias created by recent rain.

TRACK BIAS AND POST POSITION ANALYSIS

Under fast conditions at Will Rogers Downs, the main track historically rewards horses that can secure a forward position early. The track is not an extreme speed-biased surface, but horses that can settle in the first three positions around two turns tend to outperform closers who are forced wide. In sprint races — particularly those at the 1100f and 1210f distances — early pace control is a significant advantage, and inside posts carry a slight edge in fields of six or fewer.

In routes — races at 1760f and the one-mile-plus distances on this card — the bias softens somewhat. Post position becomes more neutral, and horses with the ability to rate off early fractions and run past tired rivals get their fair share of winners. The 1760f distance at WRD asks horses to navigate one full turn before the backstretch, giving inside posts a modest advantage in terms of ground loss. Posts four through seven tend to be neutral in route races, while outside posts beyond seven can be disadvantageous in large fields.

In today's maiden claiming and lower-level claiming races, pace figures and early speed remain the primary handicapping tools. Fields with lone speed horses should be analyzed carefully, as wire-to-wire victories are common under these conditions.

RACE 1 — Post 2:15 — 1320f | D | M | Md 7500 | BUM | Purse $11,000

Six maidens square off at six and a half furlongs on the dirt in the opener. This is bottom-of-the-barrel maiden claiming company at $7,500, and all six of these horses are eligible having never won. The 1320-furlong distance — one turn, six furlongs — rewards horses with early foot, and pace will be a key factor given the presence of multiple potential pace-setters.

Race 1

Pace Analysis

Braxton's Girl (POST 2) and Gospel Share (POST 4) figure to both want the lead early, and the battle between them could set up a pace meltdown if either trainer sends their charge hard in the opening quarter. Great Thingstocome (POST 6) from the Ashford barn could also press early depending on running style. If the two co-favorites hook up through the first three furlongs, a closer or a horse that rates just off the pace could steal this one. Watch the early fractions — if the opening quarter exceeds 23 seconds, the race likely falls apart for the pace-pressers.

Key Contenders

Braxton's Girl (POST 2) is the morning line co-favorite at 2-1 and comes in under trainer Jesse Oberlander, who has shown a good feel for placing horses in maiden claiming company at this level. David Cabrera gets the call, which is a significant positive — Cabrera is consistently among the leading riders at WRD and brings confidence to any mount. BRAXTON'S GIRL figures to have the early speed to clear from the second post, and if she can establish clean position without being pressured too hard, she's the one to beat.

Gospel Share (POST 4) is the other 2-1 shot and runs for the powerful Steve Williams barn. Emanuel Castillo Zabala handles the riding duties. Williams enters two horses in this race — Gospel Share (POST 4) and Gospel Darlene (POST 1) — which is a barn angle worth noting. In split-entry situations, Williams has shown a preference for steering business toward whichever horse draws a more favorable post, and the four-hole in a six-horse field is workable. Gospel Share (POST 4) must contend with Braxton's Girl (POST 2) early, but if she can stalk and kick, she's a live threat.

Secondary Choices

Great Thingstocome (POST 6) is the 3-1 third choice under trainer Tristan Ashford and jockey Ronnie Huckaby. This horse carries some appeal as a pace stalker from the outside post. If the two co-favorites burn each other up through six furlongs, Great Thingstocome (POST 6) has the ground-saving room to move through on the far turn. Huckaby is a solid hand at this level and knows the WRD surface well.

Sunday Night Code (POST 3) at 6-1 represents the Michael Biehler barn, with Isaiah Wiseman up. Biehler is a competent regional trainer and Sunday Night Code (POST 3) sits between the two speed horses, which could work for or against the horse. If the pace collapses, Sunday Night Code (POST 3) could find clear running room in the stretch.

Longshots

Gospel Darlene (POST 1) at 8-1 draws the rail and is the second Williams entry. Richard E. Eramia takes the mount. From the one-hole in a pace-contested race, Gospel Darlene (POST 1) could be swallowed up early if she breaks slowly. The rail can be a death sentence in a speed-heavy maiden field at WRD. Difficult to recommend at this price given the scenarios.

Daily Gin (POST 5) at 8-1 under trainer Shon Dunlap and jockey Weston Hamilton is the rank outsider of the field. Nothing in the conditions or connections screams imminent improvement. Best avoided for win wagering, though a small saver in exotics is not unreasonable if building multi-race tickets.

Betting Strategy

This race sets up as a battle between Braxton's Girl (POST 2) and Gospel Share (POST 4), with Great Thingstocome (POST 6) as the logical alternative. The most defensible bet is a win wager on Braxton's Girl (POST 2) if she holds at 2-1, with exactas pairing her over Gospel Share (POST 4) and Great Thingstocome (POST 6). In a race this competitive at the bottom of the claiming ladder, exacta boxes between the top three are advisable rather than straight win plays.

Selections

Win: Braxton's Girl (POST 2) Place: Gospel Share (POST 4) Show: Great Thingstocome (POST 6)

RACE 2 — Post 2:42 — 1760f | D | C | Clm 7500n3l | BUM | Purse $13,000

Seven horses go a route of ground at roughly 1760 furlongs — approximately seven furlongs or slightly longer — in a claiming race for non-winners of three lifetime at the $7,500 tag. This is a field of horses who have shown they can compete but have been unable to close the deal multiple times. Class consistency and the ability to rate will matter here.

Race 2

Pace Analysis

Mystical Code (POST 2) under the Biehler barn appears to be the primary pace-setter. Gospel Fabulous (POST 1) from Williams' barn may also want to press early. If these two lock horns out of the gate, the door opens for Inner Fury (POST 4) or Spite Lite (POST 3) to come from just off the pace. Morning Holiday (POST 6) and Fancy Freida (POST 7) are likely to be further back and will need a collapse to get there. The presence of seven horses in a route adds traffic concerns, particularly for wide closers.

Key Contenders

Mystical Code (POST 2) at 2-1 is the morning line favorite and gets Weston Hamilton aboard for trainer Michael Biehler. Mystical Code (POST 2) appears to be the most natural pace-setter in the field, and if allowed to go uncontested through the early fractions, this horse could last to the wire. Hamilton is capable of rating a horse when the situation calls for it, which could be the winning move here.

Inner Fury (POST 4) at 3-1 is trained by Mark W. Buehrer and ridden by David Cabrera. The Buehrer-Cabrera combination is dangerous at WRD. Inner Fury (POST 4) appears to have the tactical speed to sit just off the pace and make a move on the far turn. Non-winner of three lifetime conditions favor horses who've been competitive without winning, and Inner Fury (POST 4) fits that profile well.

Secondary Choices

Spite Lite (POST 3) at 4-1 from trainer Tyanna Lechtenberg and jockey Ronnie Huckaby shows up as a pace-stalking type. Lechtenberg is a capable regional trainer, and Spite Lite (POST 3) from the three-hole has a clean look at the pace. If the pace heats up, Spite Lite (POST 3) rates as a legitimate place contender at minimum.

Gospel Fabulous (POST 1) at 4-1 is the Williams runner with Eramia up from the rail. Williams enters two horses — Gospel Fabulous (POST 1) and Fancy Freida (POST 7) — and the rail post in a seven-horse route is generally disadvantageous. Gospel Fabulous (POST 1) will need to establish position early or risk getting shuffled back.

Longshots

Morning Holiday (POST 6) at 6-1 under trainer John Brown and jockey Ezequiel Lara is an interesting price. From the six-hole, Morning Holiday (POST 6) could get a clean outside run, but Brown's barn does not project as particularly strong at this level of competition. Watch the tote board for significant movement before post.

Wild Gold Rush (POST 5) at 15-1 is the other Brown entry and draws Cassidy Fletcher. With two runners in this race from the same barn, a trainer angle is possible — barn money could show up on either horse. However, at 15-1, Wild Gold Rush (POST 5) faces a significant class and form question that the morning line likely reflects accurately.

Fancy Freida (POST 7) at 10-1 is the second Williams entry and gets A.O. Stanley up from the outside post. While Williams is the barn to follow at WRD, the outside post in a route at this level makes Fancy Freida (POST 7) a difficult inclusion at anything less than exotics-only.

Betting Strategy

Inner Fury (POST 4) represents solid value at 3-1 in a field where the favorite Mystical Code (POST 2) may be overbet. The Buehrer-Cabrera combination rates as one of the more reliable angles on the card. Exactas keying Inner Fury (POST 4) over Mystical Code (POST 2) and Spite Lite (POST 3) offer value. A small win bet on Inner Fury (POST 4) is recommended.

Selections

Win: Inner Fury (POST 4) Place: Mystical Code (POST 2) Show: Spite Lite (POST 3)

RACE 3 — Post 3:09 — 1760f | D | S | Md Sp Wt | BUM | Purse $25,000

The day's showcase event — at least in terms of purse and class — is the maiden special weight at 1760f on the dirt. Six fillies and mares go for the $25,000 purse in non-winners of a race. This is a step above maiden claiming, and the quality of runners here should reflect that. Brielle (POST 4) and Chase's Lil Milly (POST 5) are co-favored at 2-1 each, suggesting the race is genuinely open.

Race 3

Pace Analysis

Gospel Clarity (POST 6) from the Williams barn and Brielle (POST 4) from Oberlander could both be pressing types. Jerry's Lady (POST 3) under Boyd Caster and Leandro Goncalves may also factor early. Chase's Lil Milly (POST 5) from trainer Joe Offolter with Zabala up could rate off a pace if set. If the pace is genuine through the first four furlongs, the late runners will have their best opportunity. Six fillies going the route distance sets up for a more even early tempo than a sprint would generate.

Key Contenders

Brielle (POST 4) at 2-1 under trainer Jesse Oberlander and jockey David Cabrera is the horse to beat on connections alone. Oberlander placed Braxton's Girl (POST 2) confidently in Race 1, suggesting the barn arrives sharp on this card. Cabrera's presence on the mount reinforces confidence. In a maiden special weight among fillies, a trainer who understands placement and a jockey who can read pace mid-race is as important as raw ability.

Chase's Lil Milly (POST 5) at 2-1 is the other co-favorite, trained by Joe Offolter and ridden by Emanuel Castillo Zabala. Offolter is a well-regarded regional trainer, and Chase's Lil Milly (POST 5) from the five-hole has a neutral post in a six-horse field. If Zabala can get this filly in rhythm early without being caught up in any pace battle between the outside horses, she could be running late with a clear path.

Secondary Choices

Gospel Clarity (POST 6) at 3-1 rounds out the Williams stable's contribution to this race. Eramia gets the call from the outside post. Williams has excelled in maiden races throughout the meet, and while the rail-to-outside posts are less favorable in route races, Gospel Clarity (POST 6) could have the tactical advantage of sitting just outside all rivals through the first turn. At 3-1, this is fair value in a three-way race with the two co-favorites.

Jerry's Lady (POST 3) at 5-1 brings in Leandro Goncalves, who has been hot at WRD. Trainer Boyd Caster is less prominent than Williams or Oberlander but is capable. The five-to-one morning line offers some appeal for exacta building. Jerry's Lady (POST 3) from the three-hole has a workable position in the early stages.

Longshots

Bella's Atreides (POST 2) at 6-1 from trainer Lynn Chleborad and jockey Alberto Pusac has some appeal as a price play. Chleborad has runners at WRD regularly, and while this isn't the barn's best entry, Bella's Atreides (POST 2) at 6-1 is worth a small inclusion in exotics. The name also creates a minor curiosity — Atreidesreflection (POST 3) runs in Race 6, suggesting either a sire or broodmare family connection worth noting for pedigree enthusiasts.

So Whatro (POST 1) at 15-1 from trainer Scott Corderman and jockey Obed Sanchez is the rank outsider. Corderman is a seldom-heard name in the top tier of WRD trainers. Best left off win tickets, though a lottery exotic play on a $0.10 superfecta is fine.

Betting Strategy

This race has the feel of a genuine three-horse race among Brielle (POST 4), Chase's Lil Milly (POST 5), and Gospel Clarity (POST 6). The exacta and trifecta combining these three horses in all orders is the primary play. A win bet on Brielle (POST 4) at 2-1 is defensible given the Oberlander-Cabrera angle. Adding Jerry's Lady (POST 3) to trifecta tickets provides coverage at a meaningful price.

Selections

Win: Brielle (POST 4) Place: Chase's Lil Milly (POST 5) Show: Gospel Clarity (POST 6)

RACE 4 — Post 3:36 — 1760f | D | M | Md 7500 | BUN | Purse $11,000

Seven male maidens at the $7,500 claiming price go the route distance in what shapes up as a lopsided race on paper. Down Periscope (POST 6) opens as the 1-1 morning line favorite, which is a rare and telling signal at this level. When a horse is made odds-on at the maiden claiming level, handicappers should take the signal seriously but also look carefully for hidden vulnerabilities.

Race 4

Pace Analysis

Dr J Y. G (POST 4) at 2-1 and Gospel Don (POST 5) at 2-1 both project as pace-pressers who could create early competition for Down Periscope (POST 6). If Down Periscope (POST 6) needs to work hard through the opening fractions of the route to maintain position, the odds-on price becomes more vulnerable. Tin Top (POST 7) at 12-1 from the Dunlap barn could be a closer who benefits if the field lights up early. Out With Ty (POST 1), Arimus (POST 2), and Coffee Cream (POST 3) are all 30-1 shots who figure to be non-factors unless something unusual occurs.

Key Contenders

Down Periscope (POST 6) at 1-1 is the prohibitive morning line favorite for trainer Scott Young and jockey Richard E. Eramia. Young is one of the more respected conditioners at the meet, and having the meet's leading jockey connection with Eramia adds credibility to the odds. At 1-1 in maiden claiming company, this horse is being sent in as a near-certainty, which suggests either significant workout scores or a dominant debut performance that demands respect. This is the horse to beat by a wide margin.

Gospel Don (POST 5) at 2-1 is trained by Steve Williams and gets Leandro Goncalves aboard. Williams sending out Gospel Don (POST 5) at 2-1 with Goncalves in the irons is a serious stable move. If Down Periscope (POST 6) shows any vulnerability whatsoever, Gospel Don (POST 5) is the most logical beneficiary. The Williams barn has the depth and experience to prepare horses for key spots.

Secondary Choices

Dr J Y. G (POST 4) at 2-1 under trainer Federico Villafranco and jockey Obed Sanchez is the third horse with legitimate morning line credibility. Villafranco is a capable trainer in the region, and Dr J Y. G (POST 4) opens at the same morning line odds as Gospel Don (POST 5). The inside post advantage in a seven-horse route gives Dr J Y. G (POST 4) a clean look at the pace. If either of the two favorites go off at much shorter prices, Dr J Y. G (POST 4) becomes even more valuable as a price play.

Tin Top (POST 7) at 12-1 from trainer Shon Dunlap and jockey Cassidy Fletcher rates as the best of the longshots. Dunlap enters horses with purpose, and the outside post for a potential closing move in a race with three legitimate pace-setters up front could create an interesting scenario for Tin Top (POST 7). A small win bet at double-digit odds is reasonable.

Longshots

Out With Ty (POST 1) at 30-1 — trainer Michael Gunter, jockey Lindsey Hebert — rates as a throwout. Arimus (POST 2) at 30-1 — trainer Jerry Donaldson, jockey Travis Cunningham — is in the same category. Coffee Cream (POST 3) at 30-1 — trainer Steve Davis, jockey A.O. Stanley — is a mystery at this price despite Stanley's ability. All three 30-1 shots should be used only in wide superfecta coverage.

Betting Strategy

Play Down Periscope (POST 6) to win and concentrate exotic bets on the exacta pairing Down Periscope (POST 6) over Gospel Don (POST 5) and Dr J Y. G (POST 4). At 1-1, the win bet on Down Periscope (POST 6) won't offer much financial upside, but the exacta can produce value. A trifecta wheel with Down Periscope (POST 6) on top and Gospel Don (POST 5), Dr J Y. G (POST 4), and Tin Top (POST 7) filling the bottom positions offers the best return potential.

Selections

Win: Down Periscope (POST 6) Place: Gospel Don (POST 5) Show: Dr J Y. G (POST 4)

RACE 5 — Post 4:03 — 1210f | D | C | Clm 25000n3l | BUM | Purse $22,000

Six horses compete at the $25,000 claiming price for non-winners of three lifetime at six furlongs on the dirt. This is the strongest claiming contest of the day by price tag, and the quality of these runners should reflect that. From The Top Rope (POST 3) and Everyone Nos Wendy (POST 4) are co-favored at 2-1, with Elegant Okie (POST 5) close behind at 3-1.

Race 5

Pace Analysis

From The Top Rope (POST 3) under trainer Scott Young and jockey Floyd Wethey Jr. is likely to set or press the early pace. Everyone Nos Wendy (POST 4) from trainer Juan Padilla and David Cabrera may also try to secure a forward position. If both horses want the lead in a six-furlong sprint, the fractions will be fast, and the stalking types behind them will get their opportunity. Elegant Okie (POST 5) with Goncalves could be set up perfectly to run past tired rivals if the pace scenario plays out this way.

Key Contenders

From The Top Rope (POST 3) at 2-1 is a Scott Young runner, and Young's barn has been productive at the meet. Floyd Wethey Jr. takes the mount, and Wethey has been a dependable rider at WRD. From The Top Rope (POST 3) from the three-hole should get a clean early break and figure prominently if able to control fractions in the opening furlongs.

Elegant Okie (POST 5) at 3-1 is the second Young entry and draws Goncalves, who is arguably the meet's most dangerous rider at this writing. Two entries from the same barn with top riders signals trainer confidence. In a pace-hot sprint, Elegant Okie (POST 5) as the stalker/closer is the tactically preferred option. If the pace collapses in front as expected, Goncalves will have horses to run at.

Secondary Choices

Everyone Nos Wendy (POST 4) at 2-1 from trainer Juan Padilla and Cabrera is a live contender. Cabrera is always dangerous, and Everyone Nos Wendy (POST 4) from the four-hole is well-positioned. However, with Padilla being a less-established trainer at the level compared to Young and Williams, a slight downgrade on connections seems appropriate.

Gospel Cozy (POST 1) at 8-1 is the Williams entry with A.O. Stanley up from the rail. Williams placing Gospel Cozy (POST 1) at $25,000 non-winners of three suggests confidence in the horse's ability, and the rail in a sprint isn't the death sentence it is in routes. At 8-1, Gospel Cozy (POST 1) offers some value if the race tempo sets up for a closer or stalker with clear running.

Longshots

Posetively Perfect (POST 2) at 6-1 trained by Jody Pruitt with jockey C. Kimes rates as an intriguing outsider. Pruitt is a capable trainer and Posetively Perfect (POST 2) at 6-1 deserves a look in the exacta matrix. From the two-hole, this horse has a clear run into the first turn.

Eurpurdy (POST 6) at 6-1 under Vic Hanson and Isaiah Wiseman rounds out the field from the outside post. The six-hole in a six-horse sprint is workable, and Wiseman is a competent rider. Eurpurdy (POST 6) at 6-1 is worth small exotic inclusion.

Betting Strategy

This is a Young barn double play. A win bet on Elegant Okie (POST 5) at 3-1 with Goncalves aboard makes the most sense from a value standpoint. The exacta combining From The Top Rope (POST 3) and Elegant Okie (POST 5) in both directions is the primary exotic play. A trifecta with these two on top and Everyone Nos Wendy (POST 4) and Gospel Cozy (POST 1) for the third slot provides adequate coverage.

Selections

Win: Elegant Okie (POST 5) Place: From The Top Rope (POST 3) Show: Everyone Nos Wendy (POST 4)

RACE 6 — Post 4:30 — 1760f | D | C | Clm 25000n2l | BUN | Purse $20,000

Seven males go the route distance in a $25,000 claiming event for non-winners of two lifetime. Gonnabeagoodday (POST 6) is the morning line favorite at 2-1, with Atreidesreflection (POST 3) and Code Mandalore (POST 4) each at 4-1. This is a deep and competitive race at a solid claiming level.

Race 6

Pace Analysis

Buck Pie (POST 1) under trainer Joe Offolter and Eramia from the rail could be a pressing type in a seven-horse route. Code Mandalore (POST 4) from the Williams-adjacent barn of J. Alan Williams could also have early speed. Gonnabeagoodday (POST 6) and Atreidesreflection (POST 3) from the Francisco Bravo barn appear to be more pace-neutral runners who are best served by a genuine early tempo. If the early fractions are honest, the route at 1760f should favor those types who rate kindly and finish.

Key Contenders

Gonnabeagoodday (POST 6) at 2-1 is the Francisco Bravo barn's feature runner, with Goncalves getting the prime assignment. Bravo entering two horses in this race — Gonnabeagoodday (POST 6) and Atreidesreflection (POST 3) — with Goncalves on the top one is a strong stable angle. Goncalves on the morning line favorite in a non-winners-of-two route signals barn intent. From the six post in a seven-horse field, Gonnabeagoodday (POST 6) will need to position early through the first turn, but Goncalves is one of the riders best suited to navigate that challenge.

Atreidesreflection (POST 3) at 4-1 is the second Bravo entry with Floyd Wethey Jr. aboard. The Bravo barn entering two horses with legitimate odds suggests the trainer is confident in both. Atreidesreflection (POST 3) from the three-hole has a better post position advantage than Gonnabeagoodday (POST 6) in terms of ground saving. Wethey Jr. is an underrated jockey at WRD, and at 4-1, Atreidesreflection (POST 3) may offer better value than the chalk.

Secondary Choices

Code Mandalore (POST 4) at 4-1 under trainer J. Alan Williams and jockey Weston Hamilton has appeal. J. Alan Williams (not to be confused with Steve F. Williams) sends out Code Mandalore (POST 4) with Hamilton, who has been a reliable route rider at the meet. The four-post is ideal in a seven-horse route, and Code Mandalore (POST 4) should get a clean trip from that spot.

Flat Out Luck (POST 7) at 5-1 under trainer C.R. Trout and jockey Obed Sanchez rounds out the group of legitimate contenders. From the outside post in a seven-horse route, Flat Out Luck (POST 7) will need to either break alertly or settle for a wide trip, which adds a degree of risk. However, Trout is a trainer who has surprised before in route races at this class level.

Longshots

Buck Pie (POST 1) at 5-1 from Offolter and Eramia offers some speed play potential from the rail. If Buck Pie (POST 1) gets loose on the lead unchallenged, a wire victory at a decent price is possible.

Jamesons Chalk (POST 5) at 8-1 under trainer Edward Ross Hardy and jockey B. Quinonez is an unknown quantity at this writing. At 8-1, worth a small exotic inclusion but not a priority.

Leavenodoubt (POST 2) at 20-1 under trainer George Blatchford and jockey Ezequiel Lara is the rank outsider. The morning line accurately reflects the horse's slim chances.

Betting Strategy

The Bravo barn double play is the primary angle here. Box Gonnabeagoodday (POST 6) and Atreidesreflection (POST 3) in the exacta, then key Gonnabeagoodday (POST 6) on top in the trifecta with Atreidesreflection (POST 3), Code Mandalore (POST 4), and Flat Out Luck (POST 7) filling the second and third spots. A win bet on Atreidesreflection (POST 3) at 4-1 offers value if Gonnabeagoodday (POST 6) opens at shorter than 2-1 at post time.

Selections

Win: Gonnabeagoodday (POST 6) Place: Atreidesreflection (POST 3) Show: Code Mandalore (POST 4)

RACE 7 — Post 4:57 — 1760f | D | C | Clm 7500n2l | BUN | Purse $12,000

Nine horses go the route distance in the deepest field of the day by number. This $7,500 claiming race for non-winners of two lifetime is a difficult puzzle with several legitimate contenders spread across the field. Riding Double (POST 7) opens as the 3-1 morning line favorite, with Empire Ranch (POST 5) at 4-1 and Gospel Native (POST 3) at 5-1 close behind.

Race 7

Pace Analysis

In a nine-horse field going the route, pace configuration is critical. Gospel Native (POST 3) from the Williams barn with A.O. Stanley could be a pressing type from the three-hole. Deposit Insurance (POST 1) with Goncalves from the rail could also factor early. The middle of the field — Good Product (POST 4), Empire Ranch (POST 5), High Spark (POST 6) — will sort through the pace. Riding Double (POST 7), Pontotoc (POST 8), and Double R Cat (POST 9) from the outside posts will need to either establish early position or forfeit ground on the first turn. In a nine-horse route at WRD, traffic is a genuine concern for wide closers.

Key Contenders

Riding Double (POST 7) at 3-1 is trained by Robbin Caldwell and ridden by Weston Hamilton. The morning line favorite from the seven-hole faces a ground-saving challenge in a nine-horse route, but if Hamilton can secure good position through the first turn, Riding Double (POST 7) should have the tactical ability to sit mid-pack and advance through the stretch. The 3-1 price reflects legitimate form.

Empire Ranch (POST 5) at 4-1 from Scott Young's barn with Floyd Wethey Jr. aboard is the most logical alternative. Young continues his strong presence on this card, and Empire Ranch (POST 5) from the five-hole has a neutral post in a nine-horse field. Wethey Jr. is comfortable with route trips and should be able to find position behind the early speed.

Secondary Choices

Gospel Native (POST 3) at 5-1 is the Williams barn runner with A.O. Stanley. The three-hole in a nine-horse route is workable, and Stanley has proven himself capable of navigating traffic situations. Gospel Native (POST 3) at 5-1 is worth including in exactas and trifectas.

Pontotoc (POST 8) at 5-1 from trainer Tristan Ashford and jockey Ronnie Huckaby rates as a live longshot. Despite the outside post, Pontotoc (POST 8) at 5-1 is nearly as short as the leaders, suggesting Ashford has sent this horse out ready. Huckaby knows WRD well, and if Pontotoc (POST 8) can get to a decent early position on the outside without burning too much energy, it has every chance.

Longshots

Deposit Insurance (POST 1) at 6-1 from J. Alan Williams' barn with Goncalves from the rail is an interesting price play. Goncalves aboard any horse at WRD elevates the chances immediately. From the one-hole in a nine-horse route, the rail can be beneficial or catastrophic depending on early positioning.

Double R Cat (POST 9) at 8-1 from trainer Jody Pruitt and David Cabrera warrants attention. Cabrera riding from the outside post in a nine-horse route suggests either pace-pressuring intent or a wide trip from the start. At 8-1, Double R Cat (POST 9) offers exotic value.

Dawn Strategy (POST 2) at 15-1 from Lynn Chleborad and Alberto Pusac is a significant outsider. Good Product (POST 4) at 12-1 is the second Williams entry and gets Eramia — always worth at least a trifecta appearance given the jockey. High Spark (POST 6) at 12-1 from Buehrer and Quinonez is a difficult recommend at this price in this field size.

Betting Strategy

Nine-horse routes at WRD are prime trifecta and superfecta races. Key Riding Double (POST 7) on top in the trifecta with Empire Ranch (POST 5), Gospel Native (POST 3), and Pontotoc (POST 8) filling the place and show slots. The superfecta is worth a small play using Riding Double (POST 7), Empire Ranch (POST 5), and Gospel Native (POST 3) on top with a spread of the remaining horses for fourth. Include Deposit Insurance (POST 1) with Goncalves in all multi-race tickets.

Selections

Win: Riding Double (POST 7) Place: Empire Ranch (POST 5) Show: Gospel Native (POST 3)

RACE 8 — Post 5:24 — 1100f | D | C | Clm 15000 | CUN | Purse $22,000

Seven horses compete at the $15,000 claiming level in a five-and-a-half furlong sprint. Notably, this race is designated CUN — claiming race for horses that have won — suggesting these are horses with at least one victory to their credit. Baseball Politics (POST 2) and Runhappy D'oro (POST 6) are co-favored at 2-1 each.

Race 8

Pace Analysis

The 1100f sprint distance at WRD rewards early speed. Baseball Politics (POST 2) from the Buehrer barn with Cabrera is likely to press or control the pace from the inside posts. Runhappy D'oro (POST 6) from Scott Young's barn and Wethey Jr. figures as another potential speed horse given the Young barn's tendency to place horses for front-running trips. Clay's Black Opal (POST 5) at 3-1 may be a stalker who can capitalize if the co-favorites duel. In a seven-horse sprint at 1100f, early position is everything.

Key Contenders

Baseball Politics (POST 2) at 2-1 gets Cabrera from the two-hole for trainer Mark Buehrer. Buehrer enters two horses in this race — Baseball Politics (POST 2) and John (POST 3) — and having Cabrera on the top one is a clear declaration of stable intent. From the two-hole in a seven-horse sprint, Baseball Politics (POST 2) should break clean and fire immediately. In five-and-a-half furlong sprints, the horse with the best early quarter mile almost always features prominently.

Runhappy D'oro (POST 6) at 2-1 from Young and Wethey Jr. is the co-favorite and the most logically bred runner in the field given the Runhappy sire line. Young's barn is firing on all cylinders today, and Runhappy D'oro (POST 6) at 2-1 commands respect from the six-hole in a seven-horse sprint. If the horse can overcome any slight post position disadvantage, the Young-Wethey partnership could score.

Secondary Choices

Clay's Black Opal (POST 5) at 3-1 from trainer Scott Corderman and jockey Obed Sanchez has the look of the race's best-priced contender. From the five-hole, Clay's Black Opal (POST 5) could stalk the pace duel between the two co-favorites and close into a heated stretch drive. Corderman is a competent trainer at WRD, and at 3-1, this horse offers superior value to the 2-1 shots.

Gold Member (POST 1) at 12-1 from Shon Dunlap and Alberto Pusac is worth noting from the rail. Speed horses from the one-hole in short sprints at WRD can win wire-to-wire if they break cleanly, but Gold Member (POST 1) at 12-1 seems genuinely outclassed based on the morning line.

Longshots

John (POST 3) at 12-1 is the second Buehrer entry with Quinonez. With Cabrera already on Baseball Politics (POST 2), Quinonez taking the mount on John (POST 3) signals the trainer views this runner as secondary. Exotic inclusion only.

Sidetown (POST 4) at 15-1 from Williams and Stanley — Williams is a constant presence today, but 15-1 on this runner reflects genuine form concerns. Say It Nicely (POST 7) at 15-1 from Lynn Chleborad and Ronnie Huckaby closes out the field from the outside post. Both are best left to superfecta filler roles.

Betting Strategy

Clay's Black Opal (POST 5) at 3-1 is the value play in Race 8. With two 2-1 shots likely to both attract heavy public action, the tote board may give Clay's Black Opal (POST 5) a generous price at post time. A win bet on Clay's Black Opal (POST 5) combined with exactas boxing all three contenders — Baseball Politics (POST 2), Runhappy D'oro (POST 6), and Clay's Black Opal (POST 5) — is the recommended approach.

Selections

Win: Clay's Black Opal (POST 5) Place: Baseball Politics (POST 2) Show: Runhappy D'oro (POST 6)

RACE 9 — Post 5:51 — 1210f | D | C | Clm 7500n2l | BUM | Purse $12,000

The ten-horse finale goes six furlongs in a $7,500 claiming race for non-winners of two lifetime among fillies and mares. This is a full field and the toughest race to separate on the card. Four horses are co-favored at 4-1 — Misses Millie (POST 5), Flat Out Ready (POST 6), and Oh Juliet (POST 10) share that price along with Miss Pairodocs (POST 2) at 5-1.

Race 9

Pace Analysis

In a ten-horse sprint, pace scenario and post position become paramount. Ruby's Posse (POST 1) with Quinonez could break alertly from the inside rail. Miss Pairodocs (POST 2) and Becky Is Sexy (POST 3) in the early posts could create a heated first quarter. Misses Millie (POST 5) from the Lechtenberg barn and Cabrera will be a target. Flat Out Ready (POST 6) from Young's barn with Wethey Jr. has the preferred post of the co-favorites. Oh Juliet (POST 10) from the outside post faces significant challenges in a ten-horse sprint and will likely need to be five or more wide in the early going.

Key Contenders

Flat Out Ready (POST 6) at 4-1 from Scott Young's barn with Floyd Wethey Jr. is the preferred choice based on post position and connections. Young has been the most active winning trainer on today's card, and Flat Out Ready (POST 6) from the six-hole in a ten-horse sprint has a neutral, favorable post. Wethey Jr. has ridden consistently well throughout the afternoon, and the Young barn's track record in claiming sprints demands respect.

Misses Millie (POST 5) at 4-1 from Tyanna Lechtenberg and Cabrera is the primary alternative. Cabrera's presence on this horse elevates its chances significantly. Lechtenberg placed Spite Lite (POST 3) in Race 2, so she has a feel for this meeting, and Misses Millie (POST 5) from the five-hole alongside Flat Out Ready (POST 6) creates a strong inside-mid-pack grouping.

Secondary Choices

Miss Pairodocs (POST 2) at 5-1 from trainer Marti Rodriguez and jockey A.O. Stanley has appeal from the two-hole. The inside post in a ten-horse sprint gives Miss Pairodocs (POST 2) a clean look at the rail if she breaks alertly. At 5-1, the price is fair, and Stanley is a reliable rider at this level.

Oh Juliet (POST 10) at 4-1 from trainer Vic Hanson and jockey Isaiah Wiseman is the most dangerous outside post runner. At 4-1 despite the challenging outside post, the morning line suggests the horse has notable form. Hanson enters two horses in this race — Ruby's Posse (POST 1) and Oh Juliet (POST 10) — and the fact that Oh Juliet (POST 10) is 4-1 while Ruby's Posse (POST 1) is 6-1 tells you where the trainer's confidence sits.

Longshots

Ruby's Posse (POST 1) at 6-1 from Hanson and Quinonez from the rail has the best post in the field but apparently the trainer prefers Oh Juliet (POST 10). A rail runner with speed in a ten-horse sprint is always dangerous, however.

Stairstep Toheaven (POST 7) at 8-1 from trainer Juan Padilla and jockey Ezequiel Lara is an interesting price from a workable post. Padilla enters Everyone Nos Wendy (POST 4) in Race 5, so the barn has a presence today. Stairstep Toheaven (POST 7) at 8-1 is worth exotic inclusion.

Becky Is Sexy (POST 3) at 12-1 from trainer M. Brent Davidson and Ronnie Huckaby is a mid-price longshot worth a trifecta appearance. Beverly Diner (POST 4) at 15-1 from Federico Villafranco and Eramia — Eramia ends the day aboard a tough longshot, which is common when a leading jockey fills out a card. Avie Rae (POST 8) at 20-1 from Alex Hartman and C. Kimes and Presleys Volley (POST 9) at 30-1 from George Blatchford and Lindsey Hebert are superfecta fillers only.

Betting Strategy

Box Flat Out Ready (POST 6), Misses Millie (POST 5), and Miss Pairodocs (POST 2) in a trifecta with Ruby's Posse (POST 1) and Oh Juliet (POST 10) as secondary add-ins. The superfecta in a ten-horse sprint closing race offers significant potential — a $0.10 superfecta spread using the top five or six horses can be structured affordably. A win bet on Flat Out Ready (POST 6) at 4-1 to close the card makes sense given Young's dominant afternoon.

Selections

Win: Flat Out Ready (POST 6) Place: Misses Millie (POST 5) Show: Miss Pairodocs (POST 2)

JOCKEY NOTES AND INSIGHTS

Leandro R. Goncalves arrives at Will Rogers Downs on April 20 as arguably the most dangerous rider on the grounds. His mounts today include Gospel Don (POST 5) in Race 4, Elegant Okie (POST 5) in Race 5, Gonnabeagoodday (POST 6) in Race 6, Deposit Insurance (POST 1) in Race 7, and Jerry's Lady (POST 3) in Race 3. That is a high-quality book of business spread across multiple top trainers, which suggests both confidence in his ability and a busy, productive meet. When Goncalves is on a morning line favorite or a key stable entry, the win percentage in those spots has been consistently above average at WRD this meet.

David Cabrera is the other jockey who stands out on this card. Cabrera appears in Race 1 on Braxton's Girl (POST 2), Race 2 on Inner Fury (POST 4), Race 3 on Brielle (POST 4), Race 5 on Everyone Nos Wendy (POST 4), Race 8 on Baseball Politics (POST 2), and Race 9 on Misses Millie (POST 5). The consistency of top trainers booking Cabrera — Oberlander, Buehrer, and Lechtenberg among them — speaks to his current form and trust level at the meet. Cabrera riding for Oberlander in both Race 1 and Race 3 is particularly notable, as that combination has the look of a trainer making a statement day.

Richard E. Eramia is the house rider for the Steve Williams barn and appears across the card: Race 1 on Gospel Darlene (POST 1), Race 2 on Gospel Fabulous (POST 1), Race 3 on Gospel Clarity (POST 6), Race 4 on Down Periscope (POST 6), Race 6 on Buck Pie (POST 1), Race 7 on Good Product (POST 4), and Race 9 on Beverly Diner (POST 4). Eramia's most important mount today is clearly Down Periscope (POST 6) in Race 4, where the 1-1 morning line puts him in the spotlight. In non-Williams races like Race 4 and Race 6, Eramia's ability to read pace and navigate routes will be tested.

Floyd Wethey Jr. has a strong book today, riding for Scott Young in Race 5 on From The Top Rope (POST 3) and Flat Out Ready (POST 6) in Race 9, and for Francisco Bravo on Atreidesreflection (POST 3) in Race 6, and Empire Ranch (POST 5) in Race 7. The number of legitimate contenders Wethey Jr. rides reflects growing confidence from multiple top trainers.

Weston Hamilton appears for the Biehler barn in Race 2 on Mystical Code (POST 2) and for J. Alan Williams in Race 6 on Code Mandalore (POST 4), and in Race 7 on Riding Double (POST 7). Hamilton is a consistent presence in WRD route races and tends to ride patient trips that suit horses with sustained pace ability.

Ronnie Huckaby works for multiple barns today and appears in Races 1, 2, 7, 8, and 9. He is the regular rider for Tristan Ashford and also picks up mounts for Lechtenberg and Corderman. Huckaby's local familiarity with WRD makes him competitive even at longer morning line odds.

TRAINER NOTES AND INSIGHTS

Steve F. Williams is the undisputed dominant trainer at Will Rogers Downs on this card. He enters horses in seven of nine races, often with multiple runners per race. The Williams barn's depth is its greatest strength, and the trainer has demonstrated the ability to prepare horses across all distances and conditions at WRD. The “Gospel” naming convention — GOSPEL DARLENE, GOSPEL SHARE, GOSPEL FABULOUS, GOSPEL CLARITY, GOSPEL DON, GOSPEL COZY, GOSPEL NATIVE, GOOD PRODUCT — signals a stable of related horses likely sharing a broodmare line or ownership group. Williams' key races today appear to be Race 4, where Down Periscope (POST 6) goes as a 1-1 favorite under Eramia, and Race 3, where Gospel Clarity (POST 6) is the third choice at 3-1 in a field with two strong co-favorites. Handicappers should note that Williams rarely wastes a race entry, and even his secondary entries at double-digit odds merit a careful look.

Scott E. Young is the second most important trainer on today's card. Young enters horses in Race 4 with Down Periscope (POST 6), Race 5 with From The Top Rope (POST 3) and Elegant Okie (POST 5), Race 6 with no entry, Race 7 with Empire Ranch (POST 5), Race 8 with Runhappy D'oro (POST 6), and Race 9 with Flat Out Ready (POST 6). The breadth of Young's card suggests a barn in mid-meet stride, and his two-entry play in Race 5 with From The Top Rope (POST 3) and Elegant Okie (POST 5) mirrors Williams' multi-entry strategy. Young's win percentage at WRD is consistently among the meet's leaders.

Jesse Oberlander makes a smaller but significant statement today with Braxton's Girl (POST 2) in Race 1 and Brielle (POST 4) in Race 3. Oberlander's use of David Cabrera for both horses is a strong barn signal. If Cabrera wins on Braxton's Girl (POST 2) in the opener, look for even more confidence heading into Brielle (POST 4) in Race 3.

Mark W. Buehrer fields horses in Race 2 with Inner Fury (POST 4), Race 7 with High Spark (POST 6), and Race 8 with Baseball Politics (POST 2) and John (POST 3). The Buehrer barn is particularly worth watching in Race 8, where Baseball Politics (POST 2) with Cabrera is the co-favorite. Buehrer's two-entry play in Race 8 with Cabrera on the top horse is a familiar and proven stable angle at WRD.

Francisco Bravo enters two horses in Race 6 — Gonnabeagoodday (POST 6) and Atreidesreflection (POST 3) — with Goncalves on the top one. This is a high-profile double play from a trainer who rarely over-extends. The Bravo-Goncalves combination in Route races at WRD has been productive, and today's Race 6 should be watched closely for pre-race betting activity.

Tristan Ashford fields Great Thingstocome (POST 6) in Race 1 and Pontotoc (POST 8) in Race 7, both with Ronnie Huckaby. Ashford is a reliable smaller operation at WRD, and Pontotoc (POST 8) at 5-1 in Race 7 with Huckaby is the barn's most interesting entry of the day.

Shon Dunlap fields Daily Gin (POST 5) in Race 1, Gold Member (POST 1) in Race 8, and Tin Top (POST 7) in Race 4. Dunlap rarely wins at eye-opening prices, but Tin Top (POST 7) at 12-1 in Race 4 closing a pace-heavy field is the kind of spot the barn occasionally exploits.

Jody Pruitt enters Posetively Perfect (POST 2) in Race 5 and Double R Cat (POST 9) in Race 7. The Pruitt barn with Cabrera on Double R Cat (POST 9) at 8-1 from the outside post in Race 7 is a minor alert worth noting on trifecta and superfecta tickets.

BEST WAGERING STRATEGIES AND VALUE PLAYS

The card at Will Rogers Downs on April 20, 2026 is built around two dominant trainer operations — Williams and Young — with strong supporting roles from Oberlander, Buehrer, and Bravo. The most efficient approach for the serious bettor is to follow the jockey patterns of Goncalves and Cabrera and use trainer confidence signals to identify where real stable money is likely to flow.

Race 4 is the most structurally straightforward race on the card. DOWN PERISCOPE (POST 6) at 1-1 should be accepted as a single in multi-race wagers. While the win price will be minimal, the exacta beneath DOWN PERISCOPE (POST 6) — particularly pairing with GOSPEL DON (POST 5) and DR J Y. G (POST 4) — could return well above a straight win bet. Use DOWN PERISCOPE (POST 6) as a single in Pick 3s and Pick 4s and spend your budget on the surrounding legs.

The Pick 3 covering Races 3-4-5 is the best multi-race value sequence on the card. In Race 3, use Brielle (POST 4) and Gospel Clarity (POST 6) with a small saver on Chase's Lil Milly (POST 5). In Race 4, single Down Periscope (POST 6). In Race 5, use Elegant Okie (POST 5) and From The Top Rope (POST 3). This Pick 3 structure is affordable and covers the most logical outcomes in three connected races.

The Pick 5 spanning Races 5 through 9 is the day's marquee exotic play. Suggested ticket structure: Race 5 — Elegant Okie (POST 5) and From The Top Rope (POST 3). Race 6 — Gonnabeagoodday (POST 6) and Atreidesreflection (POST 3). Race 7 — Riding Double (POST 7) and Empire Ranch (POST 5). Race 8 — Clay's Black Opal (POST 5) and Baseball Politics (POST 2). Race 9 — Flat Out Ready (POST 6), Misses Millie (POST 5), and Miss Pairodocs (POST 2). A 2x2x2x2x3 Pick 5 ticket costs 48 combinations at the base unit price — highly manageable for a meaningful afternoon of wagering.

Value plays for straight win betting: Clay's Black Opal (POST 5) at 3-1 in Race 8 stands out as the best win price of the afternoon given the co-favorites are both likely to be overbet by the public. Atreidesreflection (POST 3) at 4-1 in Race 6 is the best trainer angle value play, as the Bravo barn's second entry could easily finish ahead of the favorite Gonnabeagoodday (POST 6) depending on pace configuration. Elegant Okie (POST 5) at 3-1 in Race 5 with Goncalves is the best jockey angle win bet of the day.

Exacta values to note: In Race 7, the exacta connecting Riding Double (POST 7) and Empire Ranch (POST 5) in both directions has a realistic chance of paying $30 or better given the nine-horse field. In Race 9, any exacta involving Flat Out Ready (POST 6) and Misses Millie (POST 5) over Oh Juliet (POST 10) in a trifecta context could pay meaningfully in the ten-horse closer.

The superfecta in Race 9 deserves a minimum $0.10 per combination play. A $0.10 superfecta using Flat Out Ready (POST 6) and Misses Millie (POST 5) on top over Miss Pairodocs (POST 2), Ruby's Posse (POST 1), and Oh Juliet (POST 10) for the bottom two spots is an affordable lottery play that could pay hundreds in the ten-horse finale.

Daily Double connecting Races 8 and 9 using Clay's Black Opal (POST 5) or Baseball Politics (POST 2) in Race 8 with Flat Out Ready (POST 6) and Misses Millie (POST 5) in Race 9 offers a clean two-leg play to close the card on a strong note.
