Race Day Overview — Charles Town Races, Saturday, May 9, 2026

Charles Town Races presents an eight-race Saturday night card highlighted by the $75,000 Coin Collector Stakes in Race 7, the track's marquee event of the evening. The card opens at 7:00 PM ET and features a mix of maiden special weights, claiming races, and the overnight stakes, providing horseplayers with a full menu of wagering opportunities across dirt surfaces ranging from 990 feet to 1,870 feet.

The headline news entering Saturday is the Coin Collector Stakes, where The Big Lep (3) is installed as the even-money morning line favorite under trainer Anthony Farrior. As reported by The Racing Biz, one owner holds all or part of six of the eleven entrants in the race, creating an unusual ownership dynamic that will be worth monitoring in the wagering pools. Farrior, who appeared on the Charles Town Races Today podcast this week alongside announcer Paul Espinosa, enters the stakes with three horses: The Big Lep (3), Edy's Flame (6), and Mayorofgreencounty (7), plus Irish Jubalee (10). His stable is clearly the dominant presence in this race.

Also of note on Saturday's undercard is a pair of maiden special weight sprints — Race 5 for fillies and mares and Race 8 for fillies and mares — along with a maiden route in Race 1, two claiming events, and an optional claimer. Trainer Anthony Farrior also saddles Market Watch (3) and Keen Talent (4) in the opener, further demonstrating his presence across the full card.

Weather and Track Conditions — Charles Town, May 9, 2026

Charles Town Races sits in Jefferson County, West Virginia, where May evenings can shift quickly from pleasant to unsettled. The forecast for Saturday, May 9 calls for mild temperatures in the mid-60s at post time, with partly cloudy skies and low humidity. No significant precipitation is expected through the evening hours, which points toward a fast main track for the majority of the card.

Charles Town's main track is a tight four-turn oval measuring 6.5 furlongs. The surface drains reasonably well, and with no recent rain in the forecast, conditions should remain consistent from the first post to the final race. Horseplayers can plan accordingly for speed-friendly footing.

Track and Post Position Bias Analysis

Charles Town's intimate oval creates some of the most pronounced pace and post position tendencies in American racing. The track is famously front-speed oriented — horses that get to the front or sit close to the pace consistently outperform closers at virtually every distance. The short run to the first turn at Charlie Town means that inside post positions carry a significant advantage in short sprints, particularly at the 990-foot distance where the field barely has time to settle before negotiating the turn.

At 990 feet, posts 1 through 4 have historically produced a disproportionate share of winners. The rail and post 2 are especially potent when a horse has early foot, as they can save ground through all four turns of the tight circuit. Posts 5 through 8 are workable if a horse has elite gate speed and can clear to the inside, but wide runners face serious trouble.

At the 1,540-foot distance, the bias softens slightly but early pace still dominates. Horses that press the leader from the second or third position routinely outlast pure front-runners at that distance, making the “stalker” trip the most profitable setup.

In the 1,870-foot route, the extended run down the backstretch allows for more tactical racing, and closers have a marginally better chance than in the sprints. Still, a horse that goes wire-to-wire from a favorable post is never to be discounted at this track.

Jockeys with strong knowledge of the Charles Town oval — Arnaldo Bocachica, Reshawn Latchman, Sunday Diaz Jr., J.D. Acosta, and Denis Vicente Araujo — consistently leverage these biases better than riders less familiar with the track's quirks.

RACE 1 — Post (7:00)/6:00/5:00/4:00 — 1870f | D | S | Md Sp Wt | BUN | Purse $33,900

This maiden special weight route at 1,870 feet opens the card and figures to be a true test of stamina for a group of likely first-time starters or lightly raced maidens. With Anthony Farrior sending out two of the seven horses, the barn will have significant influence on how the race is run. The $33,900 purse is attractive for a maiden route, and the quality of the morning line suggests a competitive but beatable field.

Race 1

Pace Analysis

With Policy Change (5) and Keen Talent (4) both at 2-1, pace figures to be genuinely contentious early. Keen Talent (4) under Arnaldo Bocachica is expected to establish forward position from the rail-adjacent post 4. Policy Change (5) with Rodriguez is likely to press or match that pace. Scar Nose (6) at 4-1 is another forward-running type who may not allow a slow pace. If three or more horses battle for the lead around Charles Town's tight turns over 1,870 feet, the race could set up for a closer or a pace-presser who saves ground. The distance is long enough that a speed duel early would compromise the principals.

Key Contenders

Keen Talent (4) is the morning line co-favorite at 2-1 and draws the critical post 4 for trainer Anthony Farrior, who is one of the most accomplished conditioners at the Charles Town oval. Bocachica is a premier rider at this track and gives the horse every chance to establish a comfortable lead without expending unnecessary energy. Farrior's horses consistently run well as favorites, and having the top jockey aboard at the co-lowest odds makes this the logical top selection.

Policy Change (5) draws directly outside of Keen Talent (4) and shares the 2-1 co-favorite billing under trainer Kevin J. Joy, a Charles Town stalwart whose barn has tremendous local knowledge. Rodriguez is a competent jockey at this circuit and will be instructed to secure early position. This horse represents the main speed threat and the primary rival to Keen Talent (4). The slightly wider post at 5 is a minor concern around this tight track, but Joy horses at similar prices tend to be live.

Secondary Choices

Scar Nose (6) at 4-1 for trainer Timothy Shanley with J. Stokes is the third betting choice and should not be overlooked. At 4-1, this horse may offer the best odds-to-ability ratio in the field if the pace scenario sets up correctly. Shanley is a competent Charles Town trainer, and a stalking trip from post 6 could keep this one fresh for a late run if the pace gets contentious.

Market Watch (3) at 5-1 is Farrior's second entry and rides with Reshawn Latchman, a jockey well-suited to Charles Town's demands. Having two Farrior horses in the field creates a tactical advantage — if one sets pace, the other can sit in a perfect stalking spot. Market Watch (3) from post 3 has a clean path to early position and should be included in exotic tickets at the price.

Longshots

Honor The Bull (2) at 12-1 and Knocking Luck (1) at 15-1 are both trained by Daniel W. Siculietano and were assigned to inexperienced jockeys — Yancapallo Gomocio Shirle and Ebow Warren III respectively. While Siculietano occasionally finds the winner's circle at Charles Town, both horses open at prices that reflect limited expectations. Mustwinagenda (7) at 20-1 for trainer Keturah E. Obed-Letts draws the outside post, which is a significant disadvantage at 1,870 feet on this tight oval. All three can be safely downgraded for win wagering.

Selections

Win: Keen Talent (4) Place: Policy Change (5) Show: Scar Nose (6)

Betting Strategy: Keen Talent (4) is the play on top in an exacta keyed over Policy Change (5) and Scar Nose (6). A trifecta box of Keen Talent (4), Policy Change (5), and Scar Nose (6) is the recommended approach at a modest investment. Market Watch (3) can be added as a fourth leg in trifectas for insurance given the Farrior barn advantage.

RACE 2 — Post (7:32)/6:32/5:32/4:32 — 1540f | D | C | Clm 10000n2l | BUN | Purse $19,600

This is a $10,000 claiming sprint for horses that have not won two lifetime races. The condition draws a competitive field of seven, with Sokota (3) as the heavy 1-1 morning line favorite for trainer Phillip Capuano. The $19,600 purse is modest, and the claiming price suggests horses of limited class, but the race still presents interesting wagering opportunities.

Race 2

Pace Analysis

Sokota (3) at 1-1 is expected to be on or near the lead from post 3, a perfect position for this tight Charles Town sprint. Ragtime Scribble (7) at 4-1 and York Tavern (1) at 3-1 are both likely to be forward, creating potential early pace pressure. If the pace is honest, the horse best positioned to stalk from second or third could sweep past tiring leaders in the stretch.

Key Contenders

Sokota (3) for trainer Phillip Capuano is the overwhelming favorite at 1-1 and gets Ebow Warren III. Capuano is an experienced claiming trainer whose horses tend to be well-prepared, and the post 3 draw at the 1,540-foot distance puts this horse in an ideal spot to control or press the pace. At 1-1, however, the win bet offers limited value and players should look to build exotics around this horse rather than back it straight.

York Tavern (1) at 3-1 for trainer Javier Contreras with Juan Mauricio Nunez has the rail post and early speed potential. Contreras runs a sharp barn at Charles Town and York Tavern (1) could overcome the slight disadvantage of the inside post if it breaks cleanly. At 3-1, this is the most logical single-digit price bet in the race outside of the favorite.

Secondary Choices

Ragtime Scribble (7) at 4-1 for trainer Jeff C. Runco with Arnaldo Bocachica is a horse worth watching. Runco conditions a winning stable and Bocachica's track knowledge gives every mount a tactical edge. Drawing the outside post 7 is a concern, but if this horse has early foot to clear to the lead or settle close, the outside draw matters less than it would for a pure stalker or closer.

Longshots

Paramount's Pick (6) at 10-1 for Kevin Joy gives the barn a second runner in this race alongside Doc Dallas (5) at 12-1. Joy sending two horses at these prices suggests neither is a primary stable move. Doc Dallas (5) with Jacqueline A. Davis is a modest price for a modest barn entry in this spot. Hidden Favor (2) at 15-1 for Timothy C. Grams and Tio Lino (4) at 15-1 for Joseph Pyke are both at double-digit odds that reflect their standing in the field. None of these four project as strong win candidates.

Selections

Win: Sokota (3) Place: York Tavern (1) Show: Ragtime Scribble (7)

Betting Strategy: With Sokota (3) at 1-1, the best approach is to use it as a key horse underneath in exactas and trifectas rather than backing it to win. An exacta saver of York Tavern (1) over Sokota (3) at 3-1 has merit if the pace sets up against the favorite. Trifecta: Sokota (3) and York Tavern (1) over Ragtime Scribble (7) and Paramount's Pick (6).

RACE 3 — Post (8:02)/7:02/6:02/5:02 — 1540f | D | AO | OClm 15000n1x | BUN | Purse $29,800

An optional claiming event at $15,000 for horses that have not won a race other than maiden, claiming, or starter. The $29,800 purse is decent for the condition, and the field of seven includes two co-favorites at 2-1. This race has a legitimate double-figure price winner possibility if the chalk falls short.

Race 3

Pace Analysis

Social Chic (6) at 2-1 and Youthinkthatsfunny (4) at 2-1 are both expected to be competitive early. Social Chic (6) with Ebow Warren III under Jeff Runco is a likely pace factor from post 6. Youthinkthatsfunny (4) under Reshawn Latchman for trainer Michael E. Jones Jr. figures to press. Royal Pain (1) at 4-1 from the rail has the natural advantage of the inside post in this sprint. If multiple horses contest the pace, a stalker sitting just off the speed could benefit in the stretch.

Key Contenders

Youthinkthatsfunny (4) at 2-1 for trainer Michael E. Jones Jr. with Reshawn Latchman is one of the two co-favorites. Jones is a productive Charles Town trainer and Latchman is an excellent fit for the oval. Post 4 is comfortable for a horse that figures to press or stalk from a forward position. This horse's name is awkward but its odds suggest legitimate ability, and the trainer-jockey combination warrants serious respect.

Social Chic (6) at 2-1 for trainer Jeff C. Runco with Ebow Warren III is the other co-favorite. Runco has been running a live stable at Charles Town and Warren is improving as a rider at this circuit. Post 6 is slightly wide for this tight track at 1,540 feet, but if Social Chic (6) can clear to a comfortable position early, the outside draw becomes irrelevant.

Secondary Choices

Royal Pain (1) at 4-1 for trainer David L. Walters with Denis Vicente Araujo gets the favorable rail post and Araujo is one of the sharper jockeys at this track. At 4-1, this horse offers real value if the pace devolves into a speed duel between the two co-favorites. A fresh trip from the rail with Araujo navigating the turns could produce a winning performance at a very playable price.

Big Joe B (2) at 8-1 for trainer Michael G. Atkins with Christian Maldonado is a double-digit ticket candidate at a price that could produce value in exactas and trifectas if either co-favorite underperforms.

Longshots

Robbielikeshim (3) at 12-1 for Michael E. Jones Jr. with Jeiron Barbosa is the trainer's second entry and gives Jones added tactical leverage. At 12-1, this horse is a longshot ticket addition for deep trifectas and superfectas. No Love For Juba (5) at 10-1 for trainer Adam King with Christian Hiraldo and Rocket Appeal (7) at 15-1 for King with Justin M. Lewis round out the field. King runs two horses here, but both are at significant odds and are more useful in exacta and trifecta bottom spots than as win contenders.

Selections

Win: Youthinkthatsfunny (4) Place: Royal Pain (1) Show: Social Chic (6)

Betting Strategy: Youthinkthatsfunny (4) is the top choice, but at 2-1 the win bet is marginal. Exacta: Youthinkthatsfunny (4) and Royal Pain (1) with Social Chic (6). Trifecta box: Youthinkthatsfunny (4), Royal Pain (1), Social Chic (6) with Royal Pain (1) as a potential upset winner at 4-1 if the two favorites duel. The $4 exacta of Royal Pain (1) over Youthinkthatsfunny (4) is worth a play as a saver.

RACE 4 — Post (8:32)/7:32/6:32/5:32 — 990f | D | AO | OClm 25000b | BUN | Purse $36,600

A 990-foot optional claimer at $25,000 on the board for a competitive field of eight. This is the most sprint-biased race on the card, and post position will play an enormous role. Pork Chop Pete (7) is the morning line favorite at 2-1 for trainer Javier Contreras with Sunday Diaz Jr.

Race 4

Pace Analysis

At 990 feet on the Charles Town oval, the first 100 feet out of the gate may determine the winner. Pork Chop Pete (7) from post 7 will need to show exceptional early speed to overcome the wide draw in this format. Captivated Drama (5) and Hey Boots (8) both at 4-1 figure to be speed-forward horses. Moonlit Notion (4) at 4-1 from post 4 and Talkin Pharoah (6) at 5-1 from post 6 are positioned to stalk. The inside posts — Arden'sluckytobe (1) and Super Kick (2) — are live if either has the gate speed to fire from the rail.

Key Contenders

Pork Chop Pete (7) at 2-1 for trainer Javier Contreras with Sunday Diaz Jr. is the morning line favorite, and Contreras runs a sharp barn at Charles Town. Diaz Jr. is experienced at this oval and knows how to navigate the wide draw in a 990-foot sprint. The question is whether Pork Chop Pete (7) can break fast enough to avoid traffic from post 7. Contreras is the type of trainer who places horses correctly, and the 2-1 morning line is not an accident.

Hey Boots (8) at 4-1 for trainer Michael E. Jones Jr. with Jeiron Barbosa draws the outermost post, which is a genuine concern at 990 feet. However, Jones is a productive trainer and at 4-1 this horse deserves serious consideration if it has the speed to clear the field early. Barbosa has shown improvement at Charles Town.

Captivated Drama (5) at 4-1 for trainer Sherry L. Jackson with W. Cullum draws post 5, a workable position for a horse with early speed. Jackson is a competent conditioner at this track and the even-4-1 morning line suggests solid preparation.

Secondary Choices

Moonlit Notion (4) at 4-1 for trainer Timothy C. Grams with L.C. Reynolds draws the key post 4. Grams is a winning Charles Town trainer and post 4 at 990 feet is as good as it gets for ground-saving. If Moonlit Notion (4) has competitive gate speed, this post position could produce a surprising winner.

Talkin Pharoah (6) at 5-1 for trainer Michael E. Jones Jr. with J.D. Acosta is another Jones trainee — giving the barn two horses in this race alongside Hey Boots (8). Acosta is one of the most reliable riders at Charles Town and can maximize the trip from post 6.

Longshots

Super Kick (2) at 10-1 and Springhawk (3) at 15-1 are both Kevin Joy trainees. Joy running two horses at these prices is a barn depth signal more than a barn move. Arden'sluckytobe (1) at 20-1 for trainer Diana L. McClure with Justin M. Lewis has the rail post but the 20-1 morning line suggests limited ability at this level.

Selections

Win: Pork Chop Pete (7) Place: Moonlit Notion (4) Show: Captivated Drama (5)

Betting Strategy: At 990 feet, speed from inside posts usually wins, but Pork Chop Pete (7) is backed by one of the sharper local trainers. Exacta: Pork Chop Pete (7) over Moonlit Notion (4) and Captivated Drama (5). Include Talkin Pharoah (6) in trifectas given Acosta's reliable horsemanship from post 6.

RACE 5 — Post (9:02)/8:02/7:02/6:02 — 990f | D | S | Md Sp Wt | BUM | Purse $32,900

A maiden special weight sprint for fillies and mares at 990 feet. This is a full field of eight and could be the most competitive race on the card for pure value. Great Fiber (3) at 3-1 is the morning line choice for trainer Timothy C. Grams.

Race 5

Pace Analysis

With eight fillies breaking from the gate at 990 feet, pace will be frenetic in the early stages. Great Fiber (3), Ain't No Angel (5), and Jumping Jada (6) — all at 4-1 or better — figure to show early speed. The two Grams horses, Great Fiber (3) and Ain't No Angel (5), could combine to control the fractions for the stable. If one sets pace and the other stalks, Grams has a significant tactical advantage. The 990-foot sprint at Charles Town will once again favor early speed from inside posts.

Key Contenders

Great Fiber (3) at 3-1 is the morning line favorite for Grams with Maximo Chilo. Post 3 is an excellent position for this sprint and Grams clearly has confidence in this horse as the stable's top selection at the lowest price. Chilo has been riding regularly at Charles Town and should give this filly every chance to fire.

Ain't No Angel (5) at 4-1 is Grams' second entry with Jose Montano. At a tick higher odds than Great Fiber (3), this filly represents excellent value if the stable is sending two live horses. Montano is competent at this oval and post 5 is workable if Ain't No Angel (5) shows good gate manners.

Jumping Jada (6) at 4-1 for trainer Tim Collins with J. Stokes is an equal morning line price to Ain't No Angel (5) and will need early foot from post 6. Collins is a consistent Charles Town trainer and at 4-1 this filly demands inclusion in all exotic wagering.

Secondary Choices

Beautiful Noise (4) at 4-1 for trainer Ronney W. Brown with Moises Santaella draws the ideal post 4 for this distance. Brown is a seasoned Charles Town conditioner and Santaella is a quality rider. Post 4 with early speed ability could make Beautiful Noise (4) a very dangerous runner despite the shared 4-1 morning line with two other horses.

Stella's Candy (2) at 6-1 for trainer Tonya M. O'Neill with Rodriguez draws post 2 and has a natural inside advantage. At 6-1, this could be the best value in the race if she shows anything resembling early speed from the favorable draw.

Longshots

Luft To Run (1) at 8-1 for trainer Lewis E. Craig Jr. with Julio Jorge has the rail, which is coveted at this distance. However, the 8-1 morning line suggests the rail advantage alone is not enough to make this filly a strong contender. I'd Rather Not (7) at 12-1 for trainer William Earl Atkins with Jacqueline A. Davis and Hey Nigh Teen (8) at 12-1 for trainer Michael Sandoval with F. Peltroche are both at double-digit odds and are primarily useful as trifecta and superfecta fill-ins.

Selections

Win: Great Fiber (3) Place: Ain't No Angel (5) Show: Beautiful Noise (4)

Betting Strategy: The Grams barn sending two horses in a maiden sprint at 3-1 and 4-1 is a potent angle. Exacta: Great Fiber (3) over Ain't No Angel (5), Beautiful Noise (4), and Jumping Jada (6). Trifecta box: Great Fiber (3), Ain't No Angel (5), and Beautiful Noise (4). Stella's Candy (2) at 6-1 with the inside draw is worth adding to deeper trifecta combinations.

RACE 6 — Post (9:32)/8:32/7:32/6:32 — 1430f | D | C | Clm 15000n2l | BUN | Purse $21,900

A $15,000 claiming sprint for horses that have not won two lifetime races. Nine horses draw into this race, creating a wide-open field. Arie Ferrari (7) at 3-1 for trainer Jeff Runco is the morning line choice, and Blameitonmyroots (5) at 4-1 for trainer Javier Contreras provides competitive depth.

Race 6

Pace Analysis

With nine horses at 1,430 feet, pace will be competitive but the race is long enough to allow a stalker to operate. Arie Ferrari (7) at 3-1 and Blameitonmyroots (5) at 4-1 are both expected to be on or near the pace. Roark (9) at 4-1 for Brown with Ebow Warren III from the outside post is a concern from a positioning standpoint but a live horse. Legendary Sky (3) at 5-1 for Brown could set a comfortable pace from post 3. The inner posts again have the natural Charles Town advantage.

Key Contenders

Arie Ferrari (7) at 3-1 for trainer Jeff Runco with Jahnxander Raspaldo is the morning line choice and Runco's operation has been in good form. Post 7 is slightly wide for the 1,430-foot distance but Runco knows this track and will have this horse positioned correctly. Raspaldo has been an improving rider at Charles Town and gives Arie Ferrari (7) a capable pilot.

Blameitonmyroots (5) at 4-1 for trainer Javier Contreras with Sunday Diaz Jr. is a very dangerous combination. Contreras and Diaz Jr. have a productive working relationship at this track, and post 5 is a comfortable draw. At 4-1, this may be the best value on the race relative to ability.

Secondary Choices

Roark (9) at 4-1 for trainer Ronney W. Brown with Ebow Warren III is one of two Brown horses in this race alongside Legendary Sky (3). Drawing post 9 is a significant handicap at any Charles Town distance, but Brown is sharp and Warren has track knowledge. A clean trip from the outside would be required.

Legendary Sky (3) at 5-1 for Brown with Moises Santaella draws post 3, a much better position than stablemate Roark (9). If one Brown horse is the stable choice, the inside draw makes Legendary Sky (3) the more attractive option at comparable odds.

Trust The Climb (1) at 6-1 for trainer Michael E. Jones Jr. with J.D. Acosta has the rail and one of the top jockeys at the meeting. The 6-1 morning line on a Jones-Acosta combination from post 1 is potentially underlay-free value.

Longshots

Good Intentions (4) at 6-1 for trainer Anthony M. Rideout II with Reshawn Latchman draws post 4 and represents solid value at the price. Latchman is a top rider and post 4 at 1,430 feet is a competitive position. Kvellion (6) at 15-1 for trainer Kristy Gazzier with Julio Jorge has long odds that reflect modest expectations. Buster The Bully (2) at 20-1 for trainer Michael E. Sterling with G. Larrosa is a significant underdog. Mr Mahomes (8) at 12-1 for trainer Cynthia E. McKee with Juan Mauricio Nunez is another longshot fill-in.

Selections

Win: Blameitonmyroots (5) Place: Arie Ferrari (7) Show: Trust The Climb (1)

Betting Strategy: Blameitonmyroots (5) at 4-1 with the Contreras-Diaz Jr. combination is the top value play in this race. Exacta: Blameitonmyroots (5) and Arie Ferrari (7) boxed. Trifecta: Blameitonmyroots (5) and Arie Ferrari (7) over Trust The Climb (1), Legendary Sky (3), and Good Intentions (4). Roark (9) can be used in superfecta fill positions at low cost.

RACE 7 — Post (10:02)/9:02/8:02/7:02 — 990f | D | N | CoinClctr75k | BON | Purse $75,000

The $75,000 Coin Collector Stakes is the centerpiece of the Charles Town Saturday card. Eleven horses go to the gate at 990 feet in what is nominally a sprint but functions as a test of gate speed, post position savvy, and tactical horsemanship around this tight oval. The ownership story is the most significant narrative — as reported by The Racing Biz, one owner controls all or part of six entrants in this field, a circumstance that will undoubtedly affect wagering pools and tactical decisions.

Anthony Farrior is the dominant training presence with four horses: The Big Lep (3), Edy's Flame (6), Mayorofgreencounty (7), and Irish Jubalee (10). Jay P. Bernardini saddles A Ok (1) and Abundant Energy (4). Ronald G. Sigler sends out Tricks R For Juba (5) and Maskedandmummed (9).

Race 7

Pace Analysis

Eleven horses breaking from the gate at 990 feet on the Charles Town oval creates one of the most chaotic pace scenarios in the sport. The Big Lep (3) at 1-1 is the even-money choice and posts from the favorable post 3 draw. Ryan's Run (11) at 2-1 for Jeff Runco with Bocachica is the other primary market choice but faces the widest post in the field. Irish Jubalee (10) at 6-1 with Acosta and Tricks R For Juba (5) at 5-1 with Araujo are also likely speed horses in a race where early fractions will be frantic.

Post position in a full-field 990-foot sprint on this oval is nearly as important as the horse's talent. Posts 1 through 5 have a pronounced advantage over posts 6 through 11, yet The Big Lep (3) sits in a dream spot at post 3.

Key Contenders

The Big Lep (3) at 1-1 for Anthony Farrior with Arnaldo Bocachica is the clear public choice and a deserving one. Even-money at Charles Town usually reflects a genuine class edge, and Farrior — operating with multiple horses in this race — will have a clear stable plan. Post 3 is near-ideal for a 990-foot sprint. Bocachica is the best jockey at this track and has the experience to manage a chaotic early pace from the inside. The concern is the even-money price in an eleven-horse field where pace mayhem is inevitable.

Ryan's Run (11) at 2-1 for trainer Jeff Runco with Bocachica is listed at post 11 — but Bocachica appears on both The Big Lep (3) and Ryan's Run (11) in the morning line, indicating a jockey change will occur before post. Based on morning line pricing, Bocachica is most likely committed to The Big Lep (3) and Ryan's Run (11) will receive a replacement rider. At 2-1 from the widest post in a full-field 990-foot sprint, Ryan's Run (11) faces a daunting task regardless of rider. However, Runco's barn is live and this horse's talent level may transcend the draw.

Irish Jubalee (10) at 6-1 for Farrior with J.D. Acosta is a fascinating Farrior entry at a price that could offer genuine value given the even-money attention focused on The Big Lep (3). Post 10 is another wide draw concern, but Acosta is the consummate Charles Town professional and knows how to work in traffic. If Farrior has schooled Irish Jubalee (10) to the inside quickly, this price could look very generous in hindsight.

Secondary Choices

Tricks R For Juba (5) at 5-1 for trainer Ronald G. Sigler with Denis Vicente Araujo draws post 5, the last of the comfortable inside positions in an eleven-horse field. Araujo is a capable rider and Sigler sends out Maskedandmummed (9) as a companion horse — suggesting the barn has more than casual interest. At 5-1, Tricks R For Juba (5) is the most attractive non-Farrior value bet in the race.

Abundant Energy (4) at 8-1 for Jay Bernardini with B. Whitacre draws post 4 and is positioned to stalk early from the inside. Bernardini also trains A Ok (1) at 15-1, giving the barn a dual presence. At 8-1, Abundant Energy (4) is worth including in exotic wagering if the pace devolves into a speed duel between the market horses.

Longshots

My Max (2) at 12-1 for trainer Cynthia E. McKee with Juan Mauricio Nunez draws post 2, an advantageous position. McKee's barn has shown flashes of competitiveness and the inside draw could allow My Max (2) to get a ground-saving trip. A Ok (1) at 15-1 for Bernardini with Wesley Ho has the rail, which is always live at 990 feet, but the 15-1 morning line reflects limited expectations. Edy's Flame (6) at 15-1 and Mayorofgreencounty (7) at 15-1 are Farrior's “other two” entries at prices that suggest they are tactical horses designed to set pace for The Big Lep (3) rather than primary win candidates. Theycallhimgoldie (8) at 20-1 for trainer Dewayne C. Johnson with Moises Santaella and Maskedandmummed (9) at 15-1 for Sigler with Antonio Lopez are fill-in exotics at best.

Selections

Win: The Big Lep (3) Place: Tricks R For Juba (5) Show: Irish Jubalee (10)

Betting Strategy: The Coin Collector Stakes is the marquee wager of the night. The Big Lep (3) at 1-1 is unplayable straight at those odds in an eleven-horse sprint with multiple speed horses. The best strategy is to use The Big Lep (3) on top of Tricks R For Juba (5), Irish Jubalee (10), and Abundant Energy (4) in exactas. A trifecta key of The Big Lep (3) on top with Tricks R For Juba (5), Irish Jubalee (10), Abundant Energy (4), and My Max (2) filling second and third positions is the recommended play. Ryan's Run (11) must be confirmed with the actual assigned jockey before wagering — the post 11 draw makes it a trifecta-bottom candidate at best.

RACE 8 — Post (10:32)/9:32/8:32/7:32 — 990f | D | S | Md Sp Wt | BUM | Purse $32,900

The final race of the night is a maiden special weight sprint for fillies and mares at 990 feet. Apicturesworth (4) at 2-1 for trainer Ollie L. Figgins III and Jane N Margo (7) at 2-1 for trainer Kevin J. Joy share the favorite billing. A field of eight closes out the card.

Race 8

Pace Analysis

At 990 feet with two morning line co-favorites from posts 4 and 7, pace could be contentious. Apicturesworth (4) with Sunday Diaz Jr. is well-positioned from post 4. Jane N Margo (7) with Rodriguez for Joy from post 7 will need to show gate speed to overcome the wide draw. Miss Fortunate (5) at 5-1 from the adjacent post 5 could press the inner favorites. Ur Fabulous (2) at 6-1 for Joy with Jahnxander Raspaldo from post 2 gives the barn a tactical inside presence. If Jane N Margo (7) and Ur Fabulous (2) both represent Joy stable bullets, the barn controls the early shape of the race.

Key Contenders

Apicturesworth (4) at 2-1 for trainer Ollie L. Figgins III with Sunday Diaz Jr. gets the ideal post 4 draw at 990 feet. Figgins is a recognized Charles Town trainer and Diaz Jr. is at his best in these short sprints where gate position is paramount. At 2-1, this is the slight advantage in the co-favorite billing based on post position alone.

Jane N Margo (7) at 2-1 for trainer Kevin J. Joy with Rodriguez faces the same post position concern as any wide draw at 990 feet. Joy, however, is a top Charles Town trainer who places horses correctly, and a 2-1 morning line on a Joy horse in a maiden sprint is not casual. Rodriguez is experienced on this circuit. The barn's second horse Ur Fabulous (2) at 6-1 gives Joy a potential tactical companion.

Secondary Choices

Miss Fortunate (5) at 5-1 for trainer Ryan A. Gillespie with Jacqueline A. Davis draws post 5 and figures to be in the mix early. Gillespie is a competent conditioner and at 5-1 this filly offers value against the two co-favorites. Lookinforjoybaloo (3) at 8-1 for trainer Kelton Brown with Gerald Almodovar draws post 3, a favorable position at this distance, and the 8-1 price may underestimate the inside advantage.

Longshots

Ur Fabulous (2) at 6-1 for Joy with Raspaldo from post 2 is the inside Joy option and actually may be underpriced relative to Jane N Margo (7) if Joy's primary bullet is riding from post 2 with better positioning. Midnight Spin (1) at 10-1 for trainer Roland P. Clement III with J.D. Acosta has the rail draw and Acosta's competence, making this an interesting longshot at double digits. Tiz A Monster (6) at 15-1 for trainer Tabitha M. Wilhelm with Maximo Chilo is a deeper longshot for superfecta purposes. Cajun Prime (8) at 30-1 for trainer Victor M. Espinosa with Jose Y. Diaz is the longest shot on the card and essentially a token entry.

Selections

Win: Apicturesworth (4) Place: Jane N Margo (7) Show: Miss Fortunate (5)

Betting Strategy: Post position gives Apicturesworth (4) the edge over Jane N Margo (7) at equal odds. Exacta box: Apicturesworth (4) and Jane N Margo (7). Add Miss Fortunate (5) into trifectas. Ur Fabulous (2) at 6-1 from post 2 for Joy is a live trifecta inclusion at a price, especially if the stable's primary attention is split between two runners. Midnight Spin (1) at 10-1 with Acosta and the rail is a small trifecta saver.

Jockey Notes and Insights

Arnaldo Bocachica is the standout jockey at Charles Town Races and gets the most important call of the night aboard The Big Lep (3) in the Coin Collector Stakes. Bocachica's intimate knowledge of this tight oval is unmatched among the regular riders, and he consistently converts on short-priced favorites as well as delivering upset victories when placed on live longer-priced runners. On tonight's card he also appears on Keen Talent (4) in Race 1 and Ragtime Scribble (7) in Race 2. His presence on a horse at any price is an automatic upgrade.

Reshawn Latchman is the second-tier elite at this oval, with wins across multiple conditions and distance configurations. Latchman rides Market Watch (3) in Race 1, Youthinkthatsfunny (4) in Race 3, and Good Intentions (4) in Race 6. His ability to rate horses through the tight turns and find openings in traffic is a consistent asset.

J.D. Acosta is one of the most reliable jockeys at Charles Town and gets several key mounts tonight, including Trust The Climb (1) in Race 6 — a potentially undervalued combination — Irish Jubalee (10) in the Coin Collector Stakes, Talkin Pharoah (6) in Race 4, and Midnight Spin (1) in Race 8. Acosta's professionalism and track savvy make every mount a serious consideration.

Sunday Diaz Jr. is the primary choice of trainer Javier Contreras and rides Pork Chop Pete (7) in Race 4, Blameitonmyroots (5) in Race 6, and Apicturesworth (4) in Race 8. Diaz Jr. has a productive record at this track and his short-sprint expertise is particularly valuable in the 990-foot events.

Denis Vicente Araujo rides Royal Pain (1) in Race 3 and Tricks R For Juba (5) in the Coin Collector Stakes. Araujo is experienced at Charles Town and provides sharp tactical work in sprint races.

Rodriguez handles the high-profile mounts for trainer Kevin Joy tonight, including Policy Change (5) in Race 1, Stella's Candy (2) in Race 5, and Jane N Margo (7) in Race 8. Joy-Rodriguez combinations have a solid working relationship at this circuit.

Trainer Notes and Insights

Anthony Farrior is the dominant presence on this card by any measure. He saddles eight horses across the eight-race program — Market Watch (3) and Keen Talent (4) in Race 1, four horses in the Coin Collector Stakes including even-money The Big Lep (3) — and has been one of the most active and successful trainers in Charles Town's recent history. When Farrior sends multiple horses into the same race, the stable usually has a clear intended winner and the remaining horses serve tactical roles. In Race 7, The Big Lep (3) is the obvious intended winner, but Irish Jubalee (10) with Acosta at 6-1 may be more capable than the odds suggest.

Kevin J. Joy is the second most prominent trainer on the card, saddling runners in races 1, 2, 4, 5, 6, and 8. Joy has a deep bench at Charles Town and consistently places horses correctly in conditions that suit their profiles. His multiple entries in the same race — two horses in Race 2, two in Race 4, two in Race 8 — suggest a barn depth advantage rather than a specific stable move on any single horse.

Javier Contreras trains horses in races 2, 4, and 6 and is a reliable local conditioner with an excellent working relationship with Sunday Diaz Jr. The Contreras-Diaz Jr. tandem in Race 4 on Pork Chop Pete (7) and in Race 6 on Blameitonmyroots (5) are among the most trustworthy trainer-jockey partnerships on tonight's card.

Jeff C. Runco operates a consistently competitive stable at Charles Town and enters horses in races 2, 3, 6, and 7. His entry of Ryan's Run (11) in the Coin Collector Stakes at 2-1 is a significant market move that deserves attention despite the wide draw.

Michael E. Jones Jr. enters horses in races 3, 4, and 6, demonstrating the breadth of a full book of horses at this meeting. Jones is a productive trainer whose horses tend to be placed accurately, and his Race 3 entry Youthinkthatsfunny (4) at 2-1 is a legitimate co-favorite.

Timothy C. Grams trains Moonlit Notion (4) in Race 4, Great Fiber (3) and Ain't No Angel (5) in Race 5, and Hidden Favor (2) in Race 2. The double entry in Race 5 is the most intriguing Grams angle on the card, with both fillies at single-digit prices in a maiden sprint that could be a barn standout opportunity.

Ronney W. Brown saddles Legendary Sky (3) and Roark (9) in Race 6 as well as Beautiful Noise (4) in Race 5. Brown is a seasoned Charles Town trainer and his horses generally need to be taken seriously when positioned in favorable post draw situations.

Best Wagering Strategies and Value Plays

The signature bet of the evening is the Coin Collector Stakes in Race 7. Rather than betting The Big Lep (3) to win at 1-1 — a price that provides little margin for error in an eleven-horse sprint full of speed horses — the recommended approach is to structure exotic plays around the favorite while seeking value from Tricks R For Juba (5) at 5-1 and Irish Jubalee (10) at 6-1.

The single best value play on the card is Blameitonmyroots (5) at 4-1 in Race 6. The Contreras-Diaz Jr. combination from post 5 at 1,430 feet is a reliable formula, and 4-1 on a trainer of Contreras' caliber in a claiming race is a genuine overlay candidate.

For the Pick 4 spanning races 5 through 8, the structure should be built around value horses at multiple prices. Great Fiber (3) or Ain't No Angel (5) as a double in Race 5 for the Grams barn, Blameitonmyroots (5) or Arie Ferrari (7) in Race 6, a single on The Big Lep (3) or a double of The Big Lep (3) and Tricks R For Juba (5) in Race 7, and Apicturesworth (4) singled in Race 8 creates a workable Pick 4 ticket at moderate cost.

For the Pick 5 spanning races 4 through 8, add Pork Chop Pete (7) in Race 4 as the opening leg. A ticket of Pork Chop Pete (7) in Race 4, Great Fiber (3) and Ain't No Angel (5) in Race 5, Blameitonmyroots (5) in Race 6, The Big Lep (3) in Race 7, and Apicturesworth (4) in Race 8 provides a compact five-leg sequence at a manageable base cost. Adding Arie Ferrari (7) in Race 6 and Tricks R For Juba (5) or Irish Jubalee (10) in Race 7 as secondary horses expands the coverage at modest additional cost.

The Race 5 exacta pairing Great Fiber (3) over Ain't No Angel (5) at roughly 5-2 or better should pay a reasonable price given both are Grams horses and bettors may overlook the stablemate exacta as a deliberate stable strategy.

The best single-race bet on the card is Blameitonmyroots (5) to win in Race 6 at the expected 4-1 morning line price. If that horse drifts to 5-1 or higher in the pools, the bet becomes even more compelling.
