Pick Pony Track Condition Report — LEG, May 17, 2026
Track Surface & Bias
The dirt (D) surface at LEG typically plays fair to mildly speed-favoring when maintained on the drier side, with an edge to forwardly placed runners who can secure position early without being used too hard. Inside-to-middle posts often hold a slight advantage in route races, as saving ground into the first turn is key, while sprints can see a bit more balance across the draw when the track is well-harrowed. Historically, stalkers sitting just off the pace tend to finish best late when the surface is rated “fast,” especially in fields with multiple committed front-runners.
Handicapper’s Edge
Given the expected profile, give extra credit to horses with tactical speed who have shown the ability to sit second or third and finish, rather than pure need-the-lead types or deep closers. In multi-race wagers, lean toward runners drawn in the inner to middle gates in dirt routes, and downgrade one-dimensional closers unless there is clear, substantial pace pressure signed on.
