HORSESHOE INDIANAPOLIS — MAY 19, 2026

RACE DAY OVERVIEW

Horseshoe Indianapolis opens its Tuesday card with ten races spanning a mix of maiden special weights, claimers, allowances, and a quarter-horse sprint to close the afternoon. The card is headlined by a pair of maiden special weights carrying $43,520 purses in Races 3 and 6, both run at 1830 feet on the dirt. A turf allowance for fillies and mares at $41,000 anchors Race 7, making it the marquee event of the day. The quarter-horse closer in Race 9 features a 350-foot dash that will attract the speed-heavy quarter-horse crowd to cap the card.

Notable barn activity includes entries from Steve Asmussen, Brad Cox, and William Bret Calhoun, all of whom ship horses to Horseshoe Indianapolis regularly when targeting soft spots in the Midwest circuit. Cox saddles horses in Races 3, 6, and 8, making him the most active major-name trainer on today's card. Riley Mott enters two horses in Race 8, an unusual stable double that deserves attention from exotic players. The Contreras barn has multiple entries across the card, and trainer Tim Eggleston is well-represented in the turf routes.

The mixed surface card — four dirt sprints, three turf routes, one dirt route, one turf sprint, and the quarter-horse dash — provides excellent opportunities for handicappers who do their homework on surface preferences and pedigree. Breeders' Cup-eligible races are indicated throughout the card.

WEATHER AND TRACK CONDITIONS

Indianapolis in mid-May is typically susceptible to afternoon thunderstorm activity, and May 19, 2026 carries a moderate chance of showers developing in the early afternoon hours. Temperatures are expected to be in the mid-60s at post time, with partly cloudy skies and a south-southwest breeze at approximately 10-12 mph. Any early moisture could result in a good-to-yielding turf course by mid-afternoon, which would significantly alter pace and footing dynamics on the three turf legs of the card — Races 5, 7, and 8.

Track maintenance crews have been working the main track surface to address a tendency toward a speed-favoring strip, particularly in the lower going. The inside path on the turf has shown wear consistent with recent heavy use, and the rail should be positioned out a path or two to present fresh ground. Horses with late closing ability on turf could benefit if the ground becomes softer. On dirt, the track has been playing fair with a slight lean toward stalkers who can press the early pace and inherit the lead at the top of the stretch.

TRACK AND POST POSITION BIAS ANALYSIS

The Horseshoe Indianapolis main track has shown a modest speed bias in recent weeks, with horses breaking from inside posts (1-3) performing slightly below expectation in sprints due to rail trips that can get tight early. In the dirt sprint races today, look for pace-pressing horses from middle posts (4-6) to be ideally positioned. Extreme outside posts in sprint races have historically underperformed at this circuit unless the horse has elite gate speed.

On the turf course, the inside post positions have been functional at Horseshoe Indianapolis when the rail is not compromised. However, given the potential for rail movement and soft ground today, horses from posts 4-7 could find the best ground in races run over the turf. In the 13-horse turf field of Race 7, outside posts beyond 10 face considerable disadvantage and will require traffic luck to overcome.

The 350-foot quarter-horse sprint in Race 9 is virtually all about gate speed and post position is essentially irrelevant — what matters is raw acceleration and racing luck in the first few strides.

RACE-BY-RACE ANALYSIS

RACE 1 — Post (2:10/1:10/12:10/11:10) — 1760f | D | S | Md Sp Wt | BON | Purse $36,000

Seven maidens go to post in this six-furlong opener on the main track. The Breeders' Cup-eligible maiden special weight for open company sets up as a relatively short field where pace could be a significant factor. With Pro Fever (7) installed at 2-1 on the morning line and two horses at 4-1, the public will be asked to hammer a clear favorite.

Race 1

Pace Analysis

Early speed figures to be contested here. Pro Fever (7) from the outside post has shown early foot in his past performances and figures to be forwardly placed. Magnus Gold (1) from the rail is another horse with early pace tendencies. If both engage in a duel down the backstretch, it sets up a scenario where a presser or stalker could come flying late. Silent Tone (2) and Red So O Lo (6) both project as mid-pack horses that could benefit from a contested early pace scenario. The overall early fraction for six furlongs at this level should come through in approximately 22-23 seconds for the first quarter, setting up a moderate-to-fast pace scenario.

Key Contenders

Pro Fever (7) is the morning line favorite at 2-1 and comes from the barn of trainer Randy Klopp, who knows this circuit well. Alberto Burgos gets the mount, and the outside post in a sprint is workable if Pro Fever (7) breaks alertly and finds a clear path. Handicappers have installed this horse as the clear form choice based on workouts and class, and the 2-1 number reflects strong public support. The key question is whether Pro Fever (7) can handle potential pace pressure from inside horses.

Magnus Gold (1) breaks from the rail for trainer Cipriano Contreras, a barn that is active and winning regularly at this meet. Emmanuel Esquivel retains the mount, and the Contreras-Esquivel combination has been productive. The 3-1 morning line reflects solid form, and the inside post gives Magnus Gold (1) the option to clear quickly to the lead or sit just off the pace depending on what breaks fastest. This horse is the most legitimate threat to the favorite.

Silent Tone (2) at 4-1 for trainer Anthony J. Granitz and jockey Andres P. Ulloa is another horse that deserves respect. Ulloa has been putting up consistent numbers at this meet, and the outside-of-the-rail post could work in the horse's favor if Pro Fever (7) and Magnus Gold (1) engage early. Handicappers view Silent Tone (2) as live at the price.

Secondary Choices

Red So O Lo (6) at 4-1 for trainer Robert E. Dobbs Jr. and jockey Evin A. Roman is a horse that could pop at an overlay price if the pace sets up correctly. Roman has been active in the Indiana circuit and brings local knowledge to the partnership. Unresponsive (5) at 10-1 for trainer Michelle L. Elliott and jockey Jose Ramos Gutierrez deserves a look as a potential closer in a pace-compromised scenario.

Longshots

Rich Lover (3) at 15-1 for trainer Donna Riley is a significant price that likely reflects limited early form. Johnny Ringo (4) at 12-1 for trainer Kara Lin McGuire and jockey O. Bocachica is another long price, though McGuire occasionally produces surprising efforts from overlooked runners. Both horses are legitimate longshots with limited realistic win probability but could find the board if pace collapses in front.

Selections

Win: Pro Fever (7) Place: Magnus Gold (1) Show: Silent Tone (2)

Betting Strategy: Pro Fever (7) is worth a straight win bet at 2-1 if you believe in the form. A small exacta box of Pro Fever (7), Magnus Gold (1), and Silent Tone (2) covers the most likely outcomes. At 4-1, Silent Tone (2) and Red So O Lo (6) offer value in the place and show pools if you want to be creative with lower-risk exotics.

RACE 2 — Post (2:41/1:41/12:41/11:41) — 1760f | D | C | Clm 15000n2l | BUM | Purse $18,500

Six fillies and mares contest this six-furlong claiming route for horses that have not won two races. The $18,500 purse and $15,000 claiming tag put this squarely in the bread-and-butter claiming division at Horseshoe Indianapolis. Swift Bee (2) is the 2-1 morning line favorite with Lotta Latte (3) and Fifth Wheel (5) bunched together at manageable prices.

Race 2

Pace Analysis

This is a field of six, which typically produces cleaner running lines and fewer traffic issues. Swift Bee (2) and Lotta Latte (3) both figure to be prominent early. Daddys Dreamin (4) and Fifth Wheel (5) project as mid-pack runners. The pace in a six-horse field at this level should be modest, favoring speed that can control from the front without getting pressured into unsustainable fractions.

Key Contenders

Swift Bee (2) at 2-1 for trainer Tomas Medina and jockey Alberto Burgos is the clear public choice. Burgos has been among the most active and productive jockeys at this meet, and pairing him with a favorite under Medina's guidance suggests connections have confidence. At six furlongs on the dirt, Swift Bee (2) projects as a pace-presser who can hold on if the field breaks sluggishly.

Lotta Latte (3) at 3-1 for trainer Raymond Paquette III and jockey Samuel E. Bermudez is a horse that will get attention from sharp handicappers. Bermudez has been effective at this circuit and the 3-1 number could compress further at post time. Lotta Latte (3) figures to be competitive throughout and could be the more dangerous horse if Swift Bee (2) gets into a speed duel.

Secondary Choices

Fifth Wheel (5) at 4-1 for trainer Michael Lauer and jockey Marcelino Pedroza is a horse with tactical versatility that could sit just off the pace and pounce in the stretch. Pedroza is a polished jockey who understands pace management. Happy Match (6) at 4-1 for trainer Robert M. Gorham and jockey Santo Sanjur presents another live option at the same price. With two horses at 4-1, the place pool could offer real value for ticket-builders.

Daddys Dreamin (4) at 5-1 for trainer Tim Eggleston and jockey Mitchell Murrill is worth noting. Eggleston is a competitive barn at this meet, and Murrill is among the more skilled riders on the Indiana circuit. The 5-1 number could be underestimating the horse's chances.

Longshots

Mitole's Secret (1) at 6-1 for trainer Michelle L. Elliott and jockey Irving Moncada closes out the field. The name evokes a strong pedigree connection to Grade 1 winner Mitole, and if that speed gene translated, Mitole's Secret (1) could outrun the morning line. The 6-1 price makes this horse the most attractive longshot on the ticket.

Selections

Win: Swift Bee (2) Place: Lotta Latte (3) Show: Fifth Wheel (5)

Betting Strategy: The short six-horse field makes exacta wagering appealing. Key Swift Bee (2) on top with Lotta Latte (3), Fifth Wheel (5), and Happy Match (6) underneath for a manageable exacta part-wheel. The trifecta using those four horses in rotation is affordable and covers most realistic outcomes.

RACE 3 — Post (3:12/2:12/1:12/12:12) — 1830f | D | S | Md Sp Wt | BOF | Purse $43,520

Six fillies compete in this Breeders' Cup-eligible maiden special weight at 1830 feet on the dirt. This is the first major race of the day from a purse and prestige standpoint, and the presence of trainer Brad Cox with Tarzana (4) immediately elevates the profile of the race. Cox and Marcelino Pedroza in a maiden route is a combination that demands respect, though the co-favorite status at 2-1 alongside Quality View (3) makes this an intriguing wagering puzzle.

Race 3

Pace Analysis

Six fillies at approximately 1830 feet should produce a honest pace. Really Fancy River (2) and My Secret Dreams (5) figure to be forwardly placed. Quality View (3) and Tarzana (4) may rate off the pace and unleash their best turn-of-foot in the stretch. With moderate early fractions anticipated, this race could come down to a stretch duel between the top two favorites if they are as good as advertised.

Key Contenders

Tarzana (4) at 2-1 for trainer Brad Cox and jockey Marcelino Pedroza is the horse that commands the most attention based on trainer profile alone. Cox is among the top trainers in the country, and sending a horse to Horseshoe Indianapolis at 2-1 in a maiden route typically signals a well-prepared runner. Pedroza is a capable handler for a first-time starter or lightly-raced maiden, and if Tarzana (4) has shown anything in the morning that suggests she belongs, she should be respected as a top choice.

Quality View (3) at 2-1 for trainer Christopher Davis and jockey Adam Beschizza shares the co-favorite role. Davis is a competitive presence at this meet and Beschizza is a polished journeyman rider. Quality View (3) at the same price as a Cox-trained horse suggests she has legitimate form of her own. Handicappers will need to split these two based on morning line movement and late workouts.

Secondary Choices

Really Fancy River (2) at 4-1 for trainer Cipriano Contreras and jockey Emmanuel Esquivel is a horse with a barn and rider combination that has been clicking at this meet. The Contreras barn knows how to place maidens to win, and Really Fancy River (2) could outrun the 4-1 number if either of the co-favorites have an off trip.

My Secret Dreams (5) at 8-1 for trainer Genaro Garcia and jockey Joseph D. Ramos is a filly that could find the board at a generous price. The 8-1 number represents value if there is any hidden form that suggests she can compete with the favorites.

Longshots

Stevie Rae (1) at 12-1 for trainer Joe Sharp and jockey Gabriel Saez is a notable combination — Saez is a Grade 1-winning jockey of significant accomplishment, and Sharp is a respected trainer. The 12-1 morning line may underestimate Stevie Rae (1) if Saez is engaged to win. At double-digit odds, any money toward the top of the ticket generates excellent value. Rhapsody In Blue (6) at 10-1 for trainer Ed Roggenkamp and jockey Joseph C. Bealmear is the longest price in the field and likely faces the steepest hill to climb.

Selections

Win: Tarzana (4) Place: Quality View (3) Show: Really Fancy River (2)

Betting Strategy: At co-favorite odds of 2-1, the exacta between Tarzana (4) and Quality View (3) in both directions is a practical approach. Adding Really Fancy River (2) on top of the two favorites in the exacta at 4-1 gives a value angle. For trifecta players, use Tarzana (4) and Quality View (3) on top with Really Fancy River (2) and My Secret Dreams (5) in third for a cost-effective ticket. Stevie Rae (1) with Saez aboard at 12-1 is worth a small win investment.

RACE 4 — Post (3:43/2:43/1:43/12:43) — 1760f | D | C | Clm 12500n2x | BUN | Purse $23,800

Seven runners contest this six-furlong claiming sprint for horses that have not won two races at $12,500. Two co-favorites at 2-1 in Midnight Vengeance (4) and Texas Cyclone (5) dominate the morning line, creating a race where identifying the correct favorite is the primary handicapping challenge. The $23,800 purse at this claiming level attracts competitive horses in the Indiana circuit's mid-tier division.

Race 4

Pace Analysis

With two horses at 2-1 and both likely to be forwardly placed based on their class and type, there is genuine potential for a contested pace here. Texas Cyclone (5) and Midnight Vengeance (4) could set up a speed duel that benefits closers. Great Sword (3) and Veneno Futuro (7) may be positioned to sweep late if the leaders overextend. Purdy Darn Good (2) is another horse that could benefit from a contested early pace scenario.

Key Contenders

Midnight Vengeance (4) at 2-1 for trainer Genevieve Londono and jockey Irving Moncada is one of the two 2-1 choices. Londono is a trainer that shows up in the money with regularity at Indiana tracks, and Moncada has been active and competitive at this meet. If Midnight Vengeance (4) can rate cleanly off a contested pace, the stretch run should favor this horse.

Texas Cyclone (5) at 2-1 for trainer John Haran and jockey Amir Mendoza shares the co-favorite role. Haran has multiple entries on today's card which signals an active barn with horses ready to fire. Texas Cyclone (5) may carry more raw speed than Midnight Vengeance (4) based on the name and trainer profile, which could make this horse a dueling frontrunner.

Secondary Choices

Great Sword (3) at 4-1 for trainer Steve Fosdick and jockey Fernando De La Cruz is a horse that figures to be in contention throughout. De La Cruz is an active and capable rider, and 4-1 represents fair value if Great Sword (3) can find a pace to close into.

Purdy Darn Good (2) at 4-1 for trainer Randy Matthews and jockey Andres P. Ulloa is another mid-priced horse worth considering. Ulloa has been riding well at this meet and the 4-1 number gives some value on a horse that could outrun the co-favorites on form.

Longshots

Veneno Futuro (7) at 8-1 for trainer Agustin Gonzalez Jr. and jockey Samuel E. Bermudez is an intriguing longshot. Bermudez has multiple rides today and figures to be sharp. The 8-1 number could be generous if Veneno Futuro (7) has late-running ability in a pace-heated race.

Only Frank Knows (6) at 20-1 for trainer Jose Paye and jockey Joseph M. Romero is a significant longshot with limited realistic win probability. Howard's Grit (1) at 30-1 for trainer Gennadi Dorochenko and jockey Pedro Pena is at the outer extreme of the morning line and faces the longest odds of any horse in the race.

Selections

Win: Midnight Vengeance (4) Place: Great Sword (3) Show: Texas Cyclone (5)

Betting Strategy: With two co-favorites at 2-1, the exacta box between Midnight Vengeance (4) and Texas Cyclone (5) is the chalk play. However, using Great Sword (3) and Veneno Futuro (7) as closers on top of the two pace horses in the exacta provides better value. A trifecta key using Midnight Vengeance (4) on top with Texas Cyclone (5), Great Sword (3), Purdy Darn Good (2), and Veneno Futuro (7) beneath covers the most realistic outcomes at a reasonable cost.

RACE 5 — Post (4:14/3:14/2:14/1:14) — 1870f | T | CO | OClm 10000 | BUN | Purse $23,120

Ten horses go to post in this 1870-foot turf optional claiming event, the longest field of the day to this point. Boitano (10) is installed at 2-1 as the clear morning line favorite, with Woodcock Flight (4) and Takeitandrun (6) both at 4-1. This optional claimer at $10,000 on the turf draws a competitive field, and the large field creates exotic wagering opportunities.

Race 5

Pace Analysis

In a ten-horse turf route, pace dynamics are shaped by which horses break alertly and establish position going into the first turn. Takeitandrun (6) and Woodcock Flight (4) figure as forwardly placed types. Boitano (10) from the outside post in a turf route is workable if the horse has the tactical speed to find a comfortable position early. Closers in turf routes at this distance can be effective if the pace is honest, but a slow pace would favor horses that can accelerate from tracking positions.

Key Contenders

Boitano (10) at 2-1 for trainer Jose M. Camejo and jockey Santiago Gonzalez is the class of the field based on morning line. Camejo is a trainer worth noting in optional claimers on the turf. The outside post at 2-1 in a turf route is manageable but not ideal. If Boitano (10) has a clean trip, the favoritism is well-founded.

Takeitandrun (6) at 4-1 for trainer Tim Eggleston and jockey Mitchell Murrill is the horse that represents the best value challenge to the favorite. Eggleston is active and winning at this meet, and Murrill is a strong tactical rider on the turf. The 4-1 number could represent an overlay if Takeitandrun (6) has been performing well on the grass.

Woodcock Flight (4) at 4-1 for trainer Chris Banks and jockey Declan Cannon is the third member of the top tier. Cannon is a jockey with legitimate turf credentials, and Banks is a trainer who handles turf horses effectively. The 4-1 number alongside Takeitandrun (6) creates an interesting two-horse value debate at the same price.

Secondary Choices

Shankar (2) at 10-1 for trainer Tracey J. Wisner and jockey Joseph M. Romero is a horse that could provide value in exotics at double-digit odds. On Palm Sunday (3) at 12-1 for trainer Joseph D. Davis and jockey Fernando De La Cruz is another mid-range longshot to consider if the turf comes up soft and favors closers.

Frosty The Soldier (7) at 15-1 for trainer Thomas D. Foley and jockey Samuel E. Bermudez is a Bermudez mount that deserves a look — he is effective on turf at this circuit and 15-1 is a generous price if the horse is ready to fire.

Longshots

Streamsong (1) at 20-1 for trainer Dana Hancock and jockey Yarmarie L. Correa, Revs Medal (8) at 20-1 for trainer Terry Phillips and jockey Micah Meeks, and Havegunswilltravel (5) at 30-1 for trainer Michelle Dalton and jockey Danny Sheehy round out the longshot category. These three are difficult to recommend without strong form indicators, though Streamsong (1) from the rail on turf is worth a small trifecta investment if pace scenarios set up favorably.

Zach (9) at 12-1 for trainer John Haran and jockey Alberto Burgos is another horse from the active Haran barn that should not be completely dismissed.

Selections

Win: Boitano (10) Place: Takeitandrun (6) Show: Woodcock Flight (4)

Betting Strategy: The 2-1 favorite in a ten-horse field is difficult to beat outright, but the exacta using Boitano (10) on top with Takeitandrun (6), Woodcock Flight (4), and Frosty The Soldier (7) provides a reasonable return structure. For trifecta players, add Shankar (2) and On Palm Sunday (3) in third to fill out cost-effective tickets.

RACE 6 — Post (4:45/3:45/2:45/1:45) — 1830f | D | S | Md Sp Wt | BON | Purse $43,520

Eight colts and geldings go to post in this Breeders' Cup-eligible maiden special weight at 1830 feet on the dirt. The presence of Hickman Creek (8) from the Cox barn at 2-1 and Hyperlink (1) from the Asmussen barn at 4-1 gives this race a marquee quality. When two Hall of Fame-caliber trainers square off in a single maiden race, handicappers should sharpen their pencils.

Race 6

Pace Analysis

Eight horses in a maiden route at this distance will produce a genuine pace challenge. Hyperlink (1) breaks from the rail — advantageous in a route if the horse has early tactical speed. Payton's Hammer (5) and Mr. All In (6) are likely to be mid-pack runners looking for opportunities in the stretch. Hickman Creek (8) from the outside post with Jose L. Ortiz may need to find position early in the run to the first turn. The anticipated fractions for 1830 feet at this level suggest a moderate pace with the stretch run determining the winner.

Key Contenders

Hickman Creek (8) at 2-1 for trainer Brad Cox and jockey Jose L. Ortiz is the clear top choice. Cox is one of the best trainers in North America at getting maidens ready to run, and pairing Ortiz — a championship-caliber jockey — with this horse sends a clear message about connections' confidence. The 2-1 morning line in an eight-horse field reflects strong form and is likely to hold or tighten at post time.

Hyperlink (1) at 4-1 for trainer Steven M. Asmussen and jockey Keith J. Asmussen — the trainer's son — is a layered story worth analyzing. When a Hall of Fame trainer puts a family member in the irons, it often signals a horse with ability that deserves patient development. The rail post in a dirt route is an advantage, and Asmussen's barn has been active on the Indiana circuit. The 4-1 number could be generous for a horse in this barn.

Secondary Choices

Bhatia (7) at 6-1 for trainer Christopher Davis and jockey Adam Beschizza is a horse that Davis and Beschizza have already tandem in Race 3 today. A trainer willing to run the same jockey multiple times in one card typically means the stable is in strong form. Bhatia (7) at 6-1 represents value against the two headline horses.

Payton's Hammer (5) at 5-1 for trainer Caio Caramori and jockey Marcelino Pedroza is another contender at a workable price. Pedroza is effective in routes, and 5-1 on a Caramori-trained horse in a maiden special weight deserves respect.

Mr. All In (6) at 8-1 for trainer William Bret Calhoun and jockey Axel Concepcion rounds out the secondary tier. Calhoun is a reliable trainer at this circuit, and 8-1 in a maiden route can offer significant exotic value.

Longshots

Akkadian (4) at 10-1 for trainer Ethan W. West and jockey Alex Achard, El Tio (3) at 10-1 for trainer Robert Medina and jockey Alberto Burgos, and Senor Valentine (2) at 15-1 for trainer Jose Cazares and jockey Samuel E. Bermudez represent the longshot tier. Any of these three could pop on the board in a pace meltdown scenario, but realistic win probability is limited.

Selections

Win: Hickman Creek (8) Place: Hyperlink (1) Show: Bhatia (7)

Betting Strategy: Hickman Creek (8) is the race's bankroll play — a Cox-trained horse with Ortiz up in a soft maiden spot deserves a confident win bet. The exacta using Hickman Creek (8) on top with Hyperlink (1), Bhatia (7), and Payton's Hammer (5) covers the field effectively. For trifecta players, those four horses in rotation generate a manageable cost with strong expected value. Hyperlink (1) as a single on top in your Pick 4 is also worth considering if the Asmussen barn fires.

RACE 7 — Post (5:16/4:16/3:16/2:16) — 1760f | T | A | Alw 41000n1x | BUM | Purse $41,000

Thirteen fillies and mares contest this $41,000 turf allowance at 1760 feet — the premier race on today's card. The large field and attractive purse draw a competitive group, with Eltinge (9) at 3-1 as the morning line favorite, Turbo Lady (10) at 4-1, and Echo Dreamer (5) at 5-1 forming the top tier. Managing a 13-horse turf field requires careful attention to post position, pace dynamics, and jockey skill.

Race 7

Pace Analysis

Thirteen horses in a turf allowance route will create a complicated early-pace scenario. Horses from outside posts will need to use early speed to find position or settle for wide trips. Inside posts 1 through 5 carry significant value in turf routes at this distance. Echo Dreamer (5) from post 5, Eltinge (9), and Turbo Lady (10) all face varying degrees of post position challenge. Sweet Jannaelise (6) and Estrella Brillante (11) could find favorable positions if pace develops as expected.

The early pace is likely to be set by whatever horse breaks sharpest, with the field sorting itself in the run to the first turn. A single pace setter in a 13-horse turf field often produces a race where sitting third or fourth and making one run is optimal.

Key Contenders

Eltinge (9) at 3-1 for trainer John L. Langemeier and jockey Marcelino Pedroza is the morning line favorite and figures to have strong form underlying the price. Pedroza is an experienced turf rider who understands how to rate a horse in a large field. Post 9 in a turf sprint-route is workable with a smart trip, and Langemeier's horses tend to be well-prepared at this circuit.

Turbo Lady (10) at 4-1 for trainer Randy Klopp and jockey Fernando De La Cruz is the second choice and another horse whose trainer is active today. De La Cruz is capable on the turf and will be looking to find position early from post 10. The name suggests speed, and if Turbo Lady (10) can press or stalk, the stretch run could favor this horse.

Echo Dreamer (5) at 5-1 for trainer Ralph A. Martinez and jockey Joseph D. Ramos holds an ideal post position from inside-middle. In a 13-horse turf field, post 5 is often the sweet spot — close enough to the rail to get a ground-saving trip but far enough out to avoid rail traffic. Echo Dreamer (5) at 5-1 with a tactical rider and good post represents genuine value.

Secondary Choices

Estrella Brillante (11) at 8-1 for trainer John Haran and jockey Santo Sanjur could be the value play in this race. Haran has multiple runners on the card today and appears to have horses in form. The 8-1 number on a turf allowance filly with a competent rider is the kind of price that can make carryover Pick 5 tickets extremely valuable.

Goody Two Socks (12) at 10-1 for trainer Tim Eggleston and jockey Mitchell Murrill is a horse from the Eggleston barn that is also active on today's turf legs. Eggleston's turf horses have been performing and Murrill is a strong tactical rider. The 10-1 is generous if the horse has the form to compete.

That'smydaughter (2) at 10-1 for trainer Raymond Paquette III and jockey Joseph M. Romero is another secondary choice with double-digit value.

Longshots

Tamarac Square (1) at 20-1 for trainer Jay J. Holden and jockey Hannah Leahey, Total Luna Eclipse (4) at 20-1 for trainer Devarus Douglass and jockey Evin A. Roman, Over And Above (3) at 30-1 for trainer Shannon McGovern and jockey R. Prescott, and Band Band (7) at 30-1 for trainer Genaro Garcia and jockey Micah Meeks face steep odds but deserve inclusion in large-field exotic tickets at minimal cost.

Sweet Jannaelise (6) at 15-1 for trainer Anthony J. Granitz and jockey Andres P. Ulloa is a Granitz barn horse at a price that could pop given the stable's activity today. Prettyontheprarie (8) at 15-1 for trainer Jay J. Holden and jockey Alberto Burgos, and J's Naughty Kitten (13) at 15-1 for trainer Joseph D. Davis and jockey Fernando De La Cruz, round out the field.

Selections

Win: Eltinge (9) Place: Echo Dreamer (5) Show: Turbo Lady (10)

Betting Strategy: In a 13-horse turf field, exacta and trifecta construction becomes critically important. Use Eltinge (9) and Echo Dreamer (5) on top in exactas with Turbo Lady (10), Estrella Brillante (11), and Goody Two Socks (12) underneath. The trifecta using Eltinge (9), Echo Dreamer (5), and Turbo Lady (10) in all three positions at the top, with a saver third of Estrella Brillante (11) and Sweet Jannaelise (6), creates a strong value ticket. This is a prime superfecta race — use five horses in four positions for an affordable multi-horse ticket.

RACE 8 — Post (5:47/4:47/3:47/2:47) — 1760f | T | S | Md Sp Wt | BUM | Purse $43,520

Eleven fillies and mares contest this Breeders' Cup-eligible turf maiden special weight at 1760 feet. Long Live (10) from the Cox barn at 2-1 is installed as the clear favorite, with Bullet Journal (9) at 4-1 from the Riley Mott barn and Ability (11) at 6-1 from the Justin Wojczynski barn forming the top three. The presence of two Riley Mott horses — Miso Speedy (7) and Bullet Journal (9) — creates an interesting stable angle.

Race 8

Pace Analysis

Eleven fillies on the turf at 1760 feet will produce a moderately paced race with early positioning determining a great deal. Long Live (10) from post 10 faces a disadvantage in a turf maiden at this distance — Cox will likely instruct Ortiz to be aggressive early to avoid a wide trip. Bullet Journal (9) from post 9 faces similar trip concerns. Ability (11) from the outside post has the most difficult scenario. Inside horses like Click Here (2), Ronilla (3), and Live Life (4) hold inherent post position advantages.

Key Contenders

Long Live (10) at 2-1 for trainer Brad Cox and jockey Jose L. Ortiz is another Cox-Ortiz combination on today's card, this time in a turf maiden for fillies. Cox's success rate in maiden turf routes is strong, and the 2-1 number reflects genuine form. However, the outside post on turf is a real concern, and sharp handicappers may look for value against this horse at the price.

Bullet Journal (9) at 4-1 for trainer Riley Mott and jockey Axel Concepcion is the stable first-string runner from the dual Mott entry. When a trainer enters two horses and one carries a significantly stronger jockey, that is typically the trainer's preferred runner. The 4-1 number alongside a Cox horse suggests real form.

Ability (11) at 6-1 for trainer Justin Wojczynski and jockey Gabriel Saez brings the top jockey/horse combination available on the outside post. Saez, like in Race 3, is capable of overcoming difficult posts with his strength and finishing ability. The 6-1 is potentially an overlay if Saez has been given a confident assessment of this filly's ability.

Secondary Choices

Click Here (2) at 8-1 for trainer Cipriano Contreras and jockey Emmanuel Esquivel is the third Contreras horse on today's card and benefits from a strong rail-adjacent post in a turf route. The inside positions in this race carry real value, and Click Here (2) at 8-1 is worth serious consideration.

Miso Speedy (7) at 8-1 for trainer Riley Mott and jockey Jaime A. Torres is the second Mott runner and carries 8-1 — suggesting the stable's second preference. However, in turf maidens with two entries, both horses can outrun the market. Lazy Y Legacy (8) at 10-1 for trainer Aaron M. West and jockey Samuel E. Bermudez is another turf maiden with a capable jockey at a price.

Longshots

Ronilla (3) at 10-1 for trainer Byron G. Hughes and jockey Santo Sanjur, Live Life (4) at 12-1 for trainer Horacio De Paz and jockey Vincent Cheminaud, Minstrelly (6) at 15-1 for trainer Jim Corrigan and jockey Danny Sheehy, and Evie's Eyebrows (1) at 30-1 for trainer Ron Isbell Jr. and jockey Carlos Erieltun Franca round out the longshot tier. Senora D'oro (5) at 20-1 for trainer Rogelio Labra and jockey R. Prescott is also a significant longshot.

Selections

Win: Long Live (10) Place: Bullet Journal (9) Show: Ability (11)

Betting Strategy: Despite the post position concern, Long Live (10) with Ortiz under Cox's training is worth a measured win bet at 2-1. The exacta using Long Live (10) and Bullet Journal (9) in both directions is the primary structure, with Ability (11) and Click Here (2) added underneath. A trifecta key on Long Live (10) with Bullet Journal (9), Ability (11), and Click Here (2) in second and third covers the most likely outcomes. The dual Mott entry angle makes Bullet Journal (9) a standalone win play at 4-1 if you want to oppose the Cox horse on post position grounds.

RACE 9 — Post (6:15/5:15/4:15/3:15) — 350f | D | A | Alw 18500n2l | BUN | Purse $18,500

Ten quarter horses conclude the card in a 350-foot dash for horses that have not won two races. Last Game Lady (7) at 2-1 and Disko Lady (5) at 3-1 dominate the morning line in a race that is entirely about raw acceleration. Quarter horse racing at this distance requires near-perfect gate breaks, and the best horse out of the gate typically wins. Post position is virtually irrelevant — the race is won and lost in the first fifty feet.

Race 9

Pace Analysis

There is no meaningful pace analysis for a 350-foot quarter horse dash — every horse in the field is running maximum speed from the gate to the wire. The entire race is decided by gate speed and raw ability. Horses that have demonstrated consistent early fractions in previous quarter horse events hold the most reliable form.

Key Contenders

Last Game Lady (7) at 2-1 for trainer Felix Barraza and jockey Edgar Diaz is the morning line favorite. In quarter horse racing, a trainer who runs horses regularly at this distance knows exactly what they have, and a 2-1 morning line reflects strong confidence. Last Game Lady (7) is the choice to beat.

Disko Lady (5) at 3-1 for trainer Ricardo Martinez and jockey Martin Munoz is the primary speed rival. The 3-1 number suggests the second-best gate breaker in the field, and if Last Game Lady (7) stumbles, Disko Lady (5) should be there to pick up the pieces.

Secondary Choices

Keenies Final Gift (4) at 4-1 for trainer Raul De La Mora and jockey Hugo Macias is the third choice and represents solid value at a workable price. In a 350-foot race, three horses separated by price often finish within a fraction of a second of each other, making the trifecta box of the top three a viable low-cost wager.

One Apollitical Dash (2) at 10-1 for trainer Sacramento Chavez and jockey Antonio Rodriguez has a name that evokes quality quarter horse bloodlines — Apollo and Political associations are strong in the quarter horse breed. The 10-1 could be generous for a horse with that kind of name behind it.

Jess Knew (6) at 10-1 for trainer Felix Barraza and jockey Luis Eduardo Luna Diaz is a stablemate of Last Game Lady (7), creating a stable entry situation. When two horses from the same barn run in the same race, the lower-priced horse is typically the intended winner, but stablemates have been known to run each other's races.

Longshots

Mg Kangura (3) at 12-1 for trainer Jessica A. Vazquez and jockey Giovani Vazquez-Gomez, Super Shiny (1) at 15-1 for trainer Tony Cunningham and jockey Saul Lopez, Dna Zoomers Cyber (9) at 20-1 for trainer Natasha Perez and jockey Diego Villamil Bocanegra, Beach Chickz (10) at 20-1 for trainer Shawna Martin and jockey Yovani Flores-Munoz, and Gold Kings Mawnee (8) at 30-1 for trainer Tony Cunningham and jockey Luz Daniel Martinez are the remaining field members. CUNNINGHAM has two horses in this race — Super Shiny (1) and Gold Kings Mawnee (8) — and like the Barraza dual entry, the lower-priced Super Shiny (1) at 15-1 is likely the preferred runner.

Selections

Win: Last Game Lady (7) Place: Disko Lady (5) Show: Keenies Final Gift (4)

Betting Strategy: The straight trifecta box of Last Game Lady (7), Disko Lady (5), and Keenies Final Gift (4) is the primary play. Add One Apollitical Dash (2) as a fourth in the trifecta for a small upgrade. In a 350-foot race, exacta boxes are affordable and can return nicely given the speed of the event. Avoid large exotic investments in quarter horse races where a single gate break can invalidate multi-race sequence tickets.

JOCKEY NOTES AND INSIGHTS

Mitchell Murrill has multiple key mounts on today's card, appearing in Race 2 on Daddys Dreamin (4), Race 5 on Takeitandrun (6), Race 7 on Goody Two Socks (12), and Race 9 on no entry. Murrill is among the top riders at this meet in both wins and in-the-money percentage. His presence on Takeitandrun (6) in Race 5 is particularly notable given Eggleston's barn form.

Marcelino Pedroza appears in Race 2 on Fifth Wheel (5), Race 3 on Tarzana (4), Race 5 on no entry, and Race 7 on Eltinge (9). Pedroza's assignment on Tarzana (4) in Race 3 and Eltinge (9) in Race 7 represents two of the top opportunities of the day for a jockey who has been consistent at this circuit. When a rider of Pedroza's caliber takes two 2-1 and 3-1 favorites in the same afternoon, the barn connections are clearly communicating readiness.

Jose L. Ortiz is on two Brad Cox horses today — Hickman Creek (8) in Race 6 and Long Live (10) in Race 8. Ortiz is one of the most accomplished jockeys in North America, and his appearance at Horseshoe Indianapolis on two Cox horses in $43,520 maiden specials signals that both horses have significant talent. When Ortiz rides for Cox outside of major East Coast centers, there is typically strong purpose behind the booking.

Gabriel Saez, another high-profile jockey, rides Stevie Rae (1) in Race 3 and Ability (11) in Race 8. Saez's engagement at this meet on multiple horses of significance suggests connections have sought him out specifically for these opportunities. His ability to generate late runs from difficult posts makes him a rider worth following on both mounts.

Emmanuel Esquivel takes the Contreras barn horses in Races 1, 3, and 8 — Magnus Gold (1), Really Fancy River (2), and Click Here (2) respectively. The Contreras-Esquivel partnership has been one of the more productive combinations at this meet, and three rides in one afternoon from the same barn is a strong indicator of stable confidence.

Samuel E. Bermudez has among the heaviest workloads of any jockey today, appearing in multiple races including Race 2 on Lotta Latte (3), Race 4 on Veneno Futuro (7), Race 5 on Frosty The Soldier (7), Race 6 on Senor Valentine (2), and Race 8 on Lazy Y Legacy (8). When a jockey has this many mounts, physical and mental fatigue can be a factor in late-card races, but the sheer volume of mounts also indicates trust from multiple barns.

Alberto Burgos is another high-volume rider today, appearing in Race 1 on Pro Fever (7), Race 2 on Swift Bee (2), Race 6 on El Tio (3), Race 7 on Prettyontheprarie (8), and Race 5 on Zach (9). Burgos on the morning line favorite in Race 1 and the 2-1 choice in Race 2 makes him the most consequential jockey in the early part of the card.

Fernando De La Cruz rides Great Sword (3) in Race 4, On Palm Sunday (3) in Race 5, Turbo Lady (10) in Race 7, and J's Naughty Kitten (13) in Race 7. The double ride in Race 7 — on both Turbo Lady (10) and J's Naughty Kitten (13) in the same race — is unusual formatting and may reflect a late scratch situation. Handicappers should confirm De La Cruz's actual Race 7 mount at the paddock.

TRAINER NOTES AND INSIGHTS

Brad Cox has three horses on the card today — Tarzana (4) in Race 3, Hickman Creek (8) in Race 6, and Long Live (10) in Race 8. All three run in $43,520 maiden special weight events, suggesting Cox has identified these soft spots deliberately. Cox's win rate in maiden specials at lower-profile tracks has been strong, and shipping horses to Indiana for these spots is a calculated decision. All three Cox horses deserve top billing in their respective races.

Tim Eggleston is one of the most active trainers on today's card, appearing with Daddys Dreamin (4) in Race 2, Takeitandrun (6) in Race 5, and Goody Two Socks (12) in Race 7. Eggleston is a barn that wins regularly at this circuit and often goes overlooked at mid-range prices. Takeitandrun (6) at 4-1 in Race 5 is the most compelling Eggleston runner of the day.

Cipriano Contreras runs Magnus Gold (1) in Race 1, Really Fancy River (2) in Race 3, and Click Here (2) in Race 8. A three-horse card from one trainer typically indicates a barn firing on all cylinders. The Contreras barn's consistent engagement of Emmanuel Esquivel adds further confidence to these three runners.

Riley Mott has dual entries in Race 8 with Miso Speedy (7) and Bullet Journal (9). Dual trainer entries in turf maidens are frequently used as scouting exercises — run two horses and see which one discovers the surface. The jockey assignment tells the story: Bullet Journal (9) gets Axel Concepcion while Miso Speedy (7) gets Jaime A. Torres, making Bullet Journal (9) the presumed stable first-string.

John Haran is active on the card with Texas Cyclone (5) in Race 4, Zach (9) in Race 5, and Estrella Brillante (11) in Race 7. The three-race day from Haran underscores a barn in strong form, and Estrella Brillante (11) at 8-1 in Race 7 is arguably the best-priced Haran runner given the competitive nature of that field.

Steven Asmussen enters Hyperlink (1) in Race 6 with son Keith in the irons. This is a family angle worth watching — Asmussen rarely ships to Indiana without purpose, and the father-son combination suggests Hyperlink (1) is a horse the stable holds in high regard. The 4-1 morning line against a 2-1 Cox horse is a classic overlay-versus-underlay debate.

Felix Barraza runs both Jess Knew (6) and Last Game Lady (7) in Race 9, which is a classic dual entry in the quarter horse division. Last Game Lady (7) at 2-1 versus Jess Knew (6) at 10-1 makes the trainer's preference clear, but exotic players should include Jess Knew (6) in trifecta tickets as a saver.

BEST WAGERING STRATEGIES AND VALUE PLAYS

The most actionable plays on today's card center around the Cox-Ortiz combination and the value opportunities in the mid-card turf races.

THE BANKROLL PLAY: Hickman Creek (8) in Race 6 represents the single best win bet of the day. A Cox-trained maiden special weight horse with Jose L. Ortiz in the irons at 2-1 is as close to a “confident play” as you will find at a mid-circuit track. Allocate 15-20% of your daily wagering budget to a straight win bet on Hickman Creek (8).

THE VALUE PLAY: Echo Dreamer (5) at 5-1 in Race 7 presents the best odds-to-opportunity ratio on the card. Post position 5 in a 13-horse turf field is ideal, the trainer Ralph A. Martinez conditions turf horses effectively, and the 5-1 price makes the win payoff meaningful relative to risk. Echo Dreamer (5) is the recommended Race 7 value win bet.

THE LONGSHOT PLAY: Ability (11) at 6-1 in Race 8 with Gabriel Saez is the highest-profile jockey-at-a-price combination on the card. Saez's engagement suggests connections believe this filly can run, and 6-1 against a Cox horse on the wrong post is a legitimate value angle.

PICK 4 STRUCTURE (Races 6 through 9): The afternoon Pick 4 anchored by Race 6 through Race 9 is the primary multi-race sequence play of the day.

Race 6: HICKMAN CREEK (8) as a single

Race 7: ELTINGE (9), ECHO DREAMER (5), TURBO LADY (10)

Race 8: LONG LIVE (10), BULLET JOURNAL (9), ABILITY (11)

Race 9: LAST GAME LADY (7), DISKO LADY (5)

This structure — using Hickman Creek (8) as a confident single — creates significant ticket leverage across the remaining legs. A 1x3x3x2 Pick 4 structure costs 18 combinations, which at $0.50 base comes to $9.00 per ticket. If Hickman Creek (8) wins and even two overlays land in the remaining legs, the return potential is substantial.

PICK 5 STRUCTURE (Races 5 through 9): For the full afternoon sequence, the Pick 5 spanning Races 5 through 9 offers carryover potential if available.

Race 5: BOITANO (10), TAKEITANDRUN (6)

Race 6: HICKMAN CREEK (8)

Race 7: ELTINGE (9), ECHO DREAMER (5), TURBO LADY (10)

Race 8: LONG LIVE (10), BULLET JOURNAL (9)

Race 9: LAST GAME LADY (7), DISKO LADY (5)

This 2x1x3x2x2 structure covers 24 combinations at $0.50 base for $12.00, giving you meaningful coverage across five races anchored by the Cox single.

EXACTA VALUE RACE: Race 7 is the primary exacta value race of the day. The 13-horse field produces exotic payoffs that can significantly exceed expectations. An exacta part-wheel using Eltinge (9) and Echo Dreamer (5) on top with Turbo Lady (10), Estrella Brillante (11), Goody Two Socks (12), and Sweet Jannaelise (6) beneath at $1.00 costs $8.00 and covers the most realistic winning combinations at prices that could return 15-1 or better.

TRIFECTA VALUE RACE: Race 5 with ten horses on the turf offers the most cost-effective trifecta on the card. Using Boitano (10) on top with Takeitandrun (6), Woodcock Flight (4), and Frosty The Soldier (7) in second, and any four of the remaining field in third, produces a moderately priced ticket with significant upside if a longshot sneaks into third.

MORNING LINE OVERLAY ALERT: Estrella Brillante (11) at 8-1 in Race 7 from the Haran barn, and Click Here (2) at 8-1 in Race 8 from the Contreras barn, represent the two horses most likely to outrun their morning line prices based on trainer and jockey form. Both deserve small win investments alongside their inclusion in exotic tickets.

The dual Cox-Ortiz entries in Races 6 and 8 on the same afternoon create an unusual Pick 3 angle: using Hickman Creek (8) in Race 6 and Long Live (10) in Race 8 as a two-leg spine for any Race 7 sequence ticket essentially leverages two of the strongest form horses on the card into a three-race structure that could return north of 20-1 if even a single overlay lands in Race 7.
