Pick Pony Track Condition Report — FAR, July 18, 2026
Weather Forecast
For Faro (FAR) today, the forecast calls for a maximum temperature around 30°C and a minimum near 18°C, with humidity ranging roughly 36–86%. Rain chances are low (under 5%), and UV levels are very high around midday. Winds are expected to be light to moderate onshore/sea-breeze type flow, generally off the nearby coast through the afternoon.
Track Surface & Bias
With dry, warm conditions and minimal rain expected, the dirt (D) surface at FAR should play fast to moderately fast, tightening up as temperatures rise through the afternoon. Historically under firm, dry Faro-type conditions, inside to mid posts tend to be acceptable, but there is often a slight lean toward forwardly placed runners and pressers who can secure position early and stay out of kickback. On a dry, sun-baked dirt surface with little moisture, sustained late closers may need an honest or above-average early pace to fully impact, particularly in sprints, while tactical speed and horses able to travel comfortably within a few lengths of the lead are typically advantaged.
Handicapper’s Edge
Given the likely fast, dry dirt and limited precipitation, prioritize early speed and tactical pressers, especially in shorter races where gate position and the first 200–400 meters are critical. Look more skeptically at deep-closing types in large fields unless race shape projects strong pace pressure up front, and give extra credit to runners with proven form over firm, fast dirt and the ability to break alertly and hold a rail or just-off-rail tracking trip.
