FAIRMOUNT PARK — RACE DAY OVERVIEW — TUESDAY, AUGUST 4, 2026

Fairmount Park in Collinsville, Illinois serves up a full eight-race Tuesday card with first post at 2:30 PM Central. The card runs the gamut from maiden $5,000 claimers on the bottom end to optional $20,000 claimers at the top, with the featured Race 7 carrying a $38,500 purse in an older horse optional claimer at six and a half furlongs on the main track. The mile-and-an-eighth distance in Race 6 on the Alw 5000s restricted allowance condition is the longest race of the card at 2200 feet, stretching out a group of horses that will test stamina on the sandy Fairmount oval.

The card features a solid cross-section of Midwest-based horsepower. Trainers like Mike Durham, Edward Essenpreis, Harry Lynch, and Ralph Martinez are all double or triple-entered today, and that kind of stable presence on a regional card often signals confidence. The jockey colony is headlined by Victor Lara, Ademar Santos, Brody Martinez, Harold Joseph Ortega, and Alexander Bendezu, all of whom figure prominently across multiple races.

The new Thoroughbred Championship Series announced jointly by NYRA and Churchill Downs Incorporated will debut in 2027, adding long-term context to the development of 3-year-olds at tracks across the circuit. For now, Fairmount's bread-and-butter regional program continues as a development ground for horses and connections working their way through the claiming and conditioned allowance ranks of the Midwest.

WEATHER AND TRACK CONDITIONS — AUGUST 4, 2026

The St. Louis metro area, where Fairmount Park is located in neighboring Collinsville, Illinois, is experiencing typical early-August heat. Temperatures are forecast in the lower-to-mid 90s Fahrenheit for the afternoon with humidity levels elevated, producing heat index values that can push toward triple digits. Afternoon thunderstorm activity is possible, consistent with regional summer patterns in the Mississippi River valley. If storm cells move through before or during the card, expect the track to be labeled muddy or sloppy for late races.

Fairmount runs on a conventional dirt surface. Under dry conditions, the track has historically played with a modest speed bias favoring horses that can find a good stalking position. The surface tends to become deeper and more tiring in extreme heat, which can actually benefit closers in route races late in the day as the track fatigues. Should rain arrive and the surface go wet, horses with turf-style breeding or previous wet-track experience should be flagged.

TRACK AND POST POSITION BIAS

Fairmount Park's track is a five-eighths-mile oval, which is tighter than major circuit tracks. In sprint races, particularly at six furlongs (1320f), the inside posts carry slightly elevated risk due to the proximity to the first turn. However, the track's short runs into the first turn can actually reward speed horses from middle posts who can clear to the rail without burning excessive energy. Post positions four through seven tend to be the sweet spot in sprint races at this configuration.

In routes — particularly at 1760f (mile and one-sixteenth) and 1830f (one and one-eighth miles) — outside posts are more forgivable because horses have time to settle before reaching the first turn. The rail at Fairmount does have a reputation for playing favorably when it is not overly worn down. On hot August afternoons, the outside path near the seven-eighths path tends to be the freshest ground.

In today's turf-free, all-dirt card, keep an eye on how early races play out. If the first few sprints show front-runners clearing away and holding easily, lean toward speed in later races. If closers are running down leaders in the stretch, adjust accordingly as the afternoon progresses.

RACE 1 — Post 2:30 — 1320f | D | M | Md 5000 | BUN | Purse $10,000

Six furlongs on the dirt for maiden claimers at the $5,000 level. Twelve horses, including two from the Wells barn. This is one of the more competitive maiden claimers you will see at this claiming level, with the morning line spread ranging from 2-1 to 30-1. The pace should be honest given the presence of several natural speed types.

Pace Analysis

With twelve horses going six furlongs, expect a genuine battle for the lead. Major League (POST 8) draws a middle post and has the profile of a horse that wants to get involved early. Twirling Ridge (POST 5) and Free Choice (POST 11) also look like horses that could press or set a fast pace. If three or more horses get into a speed duel in the first quarter, the race sets up for a closer or a patient stalker to benefit late.

Key Contenders

Major League (POST 8) is the morning-line favorite at 2-1, trained by Mike Durham and drawn to Ademar Santos. Durham is one of the more active and successful trainers at the Fairmount meet and consistently puts horses in the condition to win first out. Santos is one of the stronger riders in the colony and the combination warrants respect. At 2-1 in a maiden claimer, this horse is clearly the class of the field in terms of connections.

Free Choice (POST 11) at 4-1 comes in from the Ralph Martinez barn with Brody Martinez up, suggesting a family operation with high motivation. Horses at the 4-1 morning line in maiden claimers from confident connections often represent sharp stable confidence. The outside post could be an issue early, but if this horse has any speed to clear, it may not matter.

Twirling Ridge (POST 5) is the 3-1 second choice, one of two Duane Wells trainees in this race. Victor Lara rides, and Lara has been getting winners this meet. The 3-1 morning line suggests Wells and connections believe Twirling Ridge (POST 5) is the better of the two stable entries.

Secondary Choices

Tuff Heart (POST 7) at 6-1 is trained by Charles Davis Jr. and draws Reynier Arrieta, one of the more polished riders on the Fairmount circuit. Davis is a journeyman Fairmount trainer who wins at a modest rate but sends horses out in good order. Six-to-one in a 12-horse maiden field offers reasonable value if this horse has any ability.

Incorporated (POST 3) at 10-1 from the Omar Razvi barn with Harold Joseph Ortega aboard gets a decent middle draw. Ortega is a capable Fairmount veteran and 10-1 is fair value for a horse that could land running without burning up in a pace duel.

Longshots

Last Call Geno (POST 1) at 20-1 for Steve Manley and Johanis Aranguren draws the rail. Rail posts in Fairmount sprints require a quick break and good speed to avoid being shuffled back. Tough spot.

Allkindsoftrouble (POST 2) at 30-1 is the second Wells entry behind Twirling Ridge (POST 5). The 30-1 morning line confirms Wells views this one as the barn's secondary runner.

Kick The A. T. M. (POST 4) at 30-1 for Pat Clay and Javour Simpson has a workable post position but the 30-1 morning line suggests this is a horse at the end of its options.

Wildwood Attack (POST 6) at 20-1 for Scott Becker and Victor Santiago is another long price in a spot where Becker is more of a spot trainer.

Premor (POST 9) at 30-1 and Instant Classic (POST 10) at 30-1 are deep in the field at extreme prices. Without notable connections or morning-line support, both are difficult to advocate.

Maya's Warrior (POST 12) at 30-1 for Gabe Retana and Javier Tavares draws the outside post at an extreme price. Tavares is a capable jockey but the morning line tells the story here.

Betting Strategy

Major League (POST 8) is the legitimate top choice, but 2-1 leaves minimal margin for error in a maiden claimer. Structurally, using Major League (POST 8) on top in exactas with Twirling Ridge (POST 5) and Free Choice (POST 11) makes sense. A small saver on Tuff Heart (POST 7) at 6-1 in the exacta underneath is prudent given the pace setup.

Selections

Win: Major League (POST 8) Place: Free Choice (POST 11) Show: Twirling Ridge (POST 5)

RACE 2 — Post 2:55 — 1830f | D | C | Clm 6250n1y | BUN | Purse $12,500

One and one-eighth miles for claimers at $6,250 who have not won in the last year. Ten horses. A genuine route that should produce a slow early pace and a strong late move from a closer.

Pace Analysis

Nine furlongs on a tight five-eighths oval means the pace maneuvering in the first half mile is critical. Euclid Avenue (POST 5) and Mystic Power (POST 2) look like horses that could be forwardly placed, but in a route at this level, few horses want to burn early. Expect the first half in the 49-50 range and the race to set up favorably for a horse with a strong late kick.

Key Contenders

Euclid Avenue (POST 5) at 4-1 is trained by Hugo Rodriguez and ridden by Ademar Santos. Rodriguez has been active at Fairmount with decent results, and Santos on a 4-1 co-morning-line choice in a route is significant. The n1y condition suggests this horse won previously but has not found the winner's circle in the past twelve months. If the horse has been freshened and is returning to form, this is a prime spot.

Mystic Power (POST 2) at 4-1 for Jose G. Rodriguez and Javier Tavares is a co-favorite from the inside. The inside post at nine furlongs at Fairmount is workable, and Tavares is savvy enough to find a comfortable position.

People Force (POST 10) at 4-1 shares the top morning-line price and draws the outside post in a 10-horse field. Francisco Villa trains and Luis Colon rides. Outside post drawbacks at nine furlongs are minimized, but the horse will need to use some energy early to find position.

Secondary Choices

Paynt By Letters (POST 3) at 5-1 from Fernando Bahena and E.T. Baird sits in a pivotal third slot. Baird is an experienced Fairmount circuit veteran who tends to put horses in position in routes. Bahena has a couple of runners today, suggesting a live stable.

Handsoffthegoods (POST 1) at 6-1 for Irvin Moreno and Frank Reyes gets the rail in a route. From the rail at nine furlongs, a horse can save ground throughout, but needs to avoid getting shuffled early. Reyes is familiar with the Fairmount circuit and knows how to use the rail.

Verrazano First (POST 4) at 8-1 for Pat Clay and Johanis Aranguren sits in the middle of the pack draw. Clay runs a modest operation at Fairmount and 8-1 offers value if this horse fires on the right day.

Longshots

Stronger Together (POST 7) at 10-1 and Boogie Bode (POST 8) at 10-1 are priced in the mild longshot range. Stronger Together (POST 7) for Armando Hernandez and Alexander Bendezu could get a ground-saving trip from post seven in a route.

Heartbreak Game (POST 9) at 20-1 for Harry Lynch and Victor Lara is interesting only because Lynch and Lara are a productive combination on today's card. Even at 20-1, a quick glance at the connections is warranted.

Lucky Boss (POST 6) at 30-1 for Jada Schlenk and Brody Martinez is at the bottom of the price range.

Betting Strategy

This triple-morning-line-favorite situation at 4-1 across three horses suggests genuine handicapping uncertainty. The pace setup in this route favors Euclid Avenue (POST 5) if Santos can rate the horse comfortably early. Exacta boxes among the three co-favorites with a fifth-slot saver on Paynt By Letters (POST 3) cover the likely outcomes.

Selections

Win: Euclid Avenue (POST 5) Place: Mystic Power (POST 2) Show: Paynt By Letters (POST 3)

RACE 3 — Post 3:20 — 1760f | D | C | Clm 5000n3l | BUN | Purse $10,400

One mile and one-sixteenth for claimers at $5,000 who have not won three races in their lifetime. Nine horses. Grandsonsam (POST 7) is a clear morning-line favorite at 2-1.

Pace Analysis

At 1760f, the pace will be pedestrian early for most of these horses. Grandsonsam (POST 7) likely has enough tactical speed to track the leader and pounce. The question is whether License To Steal (POST 9) or Moonrise Drive (POST 4) can match strides early enough to force a real test. This figures to be a moderate early pace that sets up a stalker.

Key Contenders

Grandsonsam (POST 7) at 2-1 is the clear choice here. Trained by Mike Durham — who also has Nightwind (POST 3) in Race 6 and Brown Reserve (POST 9) in Race 6 — and ridden by Ademar Santos, this is the same powerful combination from Race 1. Durham wins with his better horses at a meaningful clip at Fairmount, and Santos' presence signals that the barn believes this horse is ready.

License To Steal (POST 9) at 4-1 for Eduardo Rodriguez and Frank Reyes sits at the outside post. Rodriguez is an active trainer on the circuit and Reyes is a capable veteran who wins races. The outside post in a one-turn route is not a significant disadvantage.

Moonrise Drive (POST 4) at 4-1 for Cheryl Winebaugh and Luis Colon gets a comfortable middle draw. Winebaugh is a smaller operation but 4-1 morning-line suggests connections have genuine confidence.

Secondary Choices

Reveille Valley (POST 1) at 4-1 shares the price cluster with Cory Orm aboard. Three horses share the 4-1 morning line here, making this a legitimate four-way race on paper. Reveille Valley (POST 1) from the rail in a route at 4-1 has tactical positional advantages.

Rumbling (POST 6) at 6-1 for Maximino Quinonez and Alexander Bendezu offers a value price. Bendezu is an increasingly productive rider on the Fairmount circuit and a 6-1 price is worth a second look.

T Law (POST 2) at 8-1 for Ida Spagnola and Harold Joseph Ortega sits just inside the middle of the field. Ortega is a capable handler at this level.

Longshots

Best Man Speech (POST 5) at 15-1 for Harry Lynch and Victor Lara is interesting given the productive Lynch-Lara combination across today's card. At 15-1, a small show bet or use in exotic underneaths is justifiable.

Heavens Hound (POST 3) at 30-1 for Charles Davis Jr. and Brody Martinez and Bad Obsession (POST 8) at 30-1 for Heather Irion and T. Wales are at extreme prices without sufficient morning-line support to advocate strongly.

Betting Strategy

Grandsonsam (POST 7) at 2-1 is the vulnerable favorite. The 4-1 cluster makes exacta boxes difficult to construct cheaply. Instead, key Grandsonsam (POST 7) on top in exactas with License To Steal (POST 9), Moonrise Drive (POST 4), and Reveille Valley (POST 1) underneath. A trifecta wheel with Grandsonsam (POST 7) on top and the 4-1 trio filling out is the recommended play.

Selections

Win: Grandsonsam (POST 7) Place: License To Steal (POST 9) Show: Moonrise Drive (POST 4)

RACE 4 — Post 3:45 — 1320f | D | AO | OClm 20000n4l | BUN | Purse $40,500

Six furlongs for older horses in an optional $20,000 claimer limited to those with three or fewer lifetime wins. This is the biggest purse of the early card at $40,500. Seven horses, two from the Essenpreis barn. A clean race with defined speed and class.

Pace Analysis

Irish Spark (POST 1) and Takeitaway (POST 4) are the co-favorites at 2-1 and both likely have early speed intentions. If they duel from the gate, Bikini Martini (POST 5) — also Essenpreis-trained — could benefit stalking from just behind. Volodymyr Z (POST 7) at 5-1 is the most interesting pace factor as an outside horse that could benefit from an honest pace up front.

Key Contenders

Irish Spark (POST 1) at 2-1, trained by Edward Essenpreis and ridden by Reynier Arrieta, is a co-morning-line choice from the rail. Essenpreis is one of the sharpest and most consistent trainers on the Fairmount circuit. He has both Irish Spark (POST 1) and Bikini Martini (POST 5) in this race, which is a barn that entered two horses because they are both live — a strong confidence signal. Arrieta is a quality rider who consistently delivers in tough spots.

Takeitaway (POST 4) at 2-1 for Michele Boyce and Luis Colon draws the fourth post, often a sweet spot in Fairmount sprints. Boyce is an effective trainer and Colon has shown he can deliver on short-priced horses. The co-favorite designation means this horse has legitimate credentials.

Bikini Martini (POST 5) at 4-1 is the second Essenpreis entry, ridden by Johanis Aranguren. If Essenpreis is the leading trainer today, Bikini Martini (POST 5) becomes a very dangerous overlay. In a race where Essenpreis holds two of seven horses, the barn controls the pace strategy.

Secondary Choices

Volodymyr Z (POST 7) at 5-1 for Scott Becker and T. Wales is a Becker-trained horse from the outside post. Becker sends out horses that are fit and capable at this level. A 5-1 morning line on an outside post in a seven-horse field is genuinely interesting.

Onthewayjimmy (POST 2) at 8-1 for Scott Becker and Harold Joseph Ortega gives Becker a second runner in this race. Becker with two horses in a race mirrors the Essenpreis angle — dual entries suggest trainer confidence.

Longshots

Grayhop (POST 3) at 15-1 for Lori Plasters and Cory Orm and Adios Kid (POST 6) at 10-1 for Ben Delong and Alexander Bendezu round out the field. Adios Kid (POST 6) at 10-1 is the more interesting longshot price if the pace gets hot early and a closer can benefit.

Betting Strategy

The best play here is to recognize that Essenpreis controls two horses at 2-1 and 4-1. If Irish Spark (POST 1) wins, Bikini Martini (POST 5) may finish second. If Takeitaway (POST 4) wins, Bikini Martini (POST 5) and Volodymyr Z (POST 7) are dangerous for the exacta slots. Box Irish Spark (POST 1), Takeitaway (POST 4), and Bikini Martini (POST 5) in the exacta. Use Volodymyr Z (POST 7) as a trifecta saver in third.

Selections

Win: Irish Spark (POST 1) Place: Takeitaway (POST 4) Show: Bikini Martini (POST 5)

RACE 5 — Post 4:10 — 1210f | D | AO | OClm 20000n2x | BUM | Purse $20,000

Six furlongs on the main track for older optional claimers who have not won twice at the claiming price or higher in the past two starts. Nine horses. Jet Pack (POST 7) is the clear morning-line choice at 2-1.

Pace Analysis

At six furlongs with nine horses, the early fractions will be contested. Peytons Honor (POST 4), Keen Gal (POST 6), and Jet Pack (POST 7) all figure to be involved early. Sally's Suprise (POST 9) also at 4-1 adds another speed threat. If three or four of the 4-1 horses battle for position around the first turn, Jet Pack (POST 7) at 2-1 will need to be sharp from the break to avoid getting caught in traffic.

Key Contenders

Jet Pack (POST 7) at 2-1 for Steve Manley and Ademar Santos draws a comfortable middle post in a nine-horse field. Santos is the most sought-after rider on today's card and the Manley-Santos combination is live. At 2-1, this horse is the class of the field and the morning line reflects that.

Peytons Honor (POST 4) at 4-1 for Scott Becker and Victor Santiago has a favorable fourth post. Becker is well-represented today with multiple runners and Peytons Honor (POST 4) lands in a key post position. If this horse can get loose on the lead or close to it, Becker's horses have the fitness to hold on.

Keen Gal (POST 6) at 4-1 for Eduardo Rodriguez and Alexander Bendezu brings Rodriguez's second entry in this race alongside Sally's Suprise (POST 9). Rodriguez running two horses in one race at 4-1 morning lines suggests genuine barn confidence in both runners.

Secondary Choices

Sally's Suprise (POST 9) at 4-1 is the second Rodriguez runner, ridden by Johanis Aranguren. Rodriguez splits his jockey assignments between Bendezu and Aranguren, which suggests he views both horses as capable. Outside post nine in a sprint requires a clean break.

Bee Bluff (POST 3) at 6-1 for Mike Durham and J.E. Felix is a Durham-trained horse, and Durham has been effective all day. Felix is a solid mid-card rider. At 6-1, Bee Bluff (POST 3) is a price worth examining.

Longshots

Lit Miss Hat Trick (POST 1) at 10-1 for Harry Lynch and Victor Lara draws the rail. Lynch and Lara are a productive combination today and the rail in a sprint is always dangerous if the horse can get out cleanly.

Wildcat Bobbie (POST 5) at 10-1 for Arthur Coontz and Emmanuel Giles is a mid-field draw at a double-digit price. Coontz is not among today's most prominent trainers, but 10-1 in a competitive sprint is worth a glance.

Cantoo (POST 2) at 15-1 for John Wainwright and Javier Diego has been entered in multiple spots by Wainwright today, suggesting the barn is active. At 15-1, Cantoo (POST 2) is viable only as a deep trifecta inclusion.

Secret Operation (POST 8) at 30-1 for Mike Slager and Cory Orm is at an extreme price that reflects the trainer's likely situational entry.

Betting Strategy

Jet Pack (POST 7) at 2-1 is the horse to beat but the clustering of four horses at 4-1 creates real exacta value. Structurally, using Jet Pack (POST 7) on top with the 4-1 quartet underneath in the exacta is sound. A trifecta with Jet Pack (POST 7) on top, the 4-1 group in the middle, and Bee Bluff (POST 3) filling the third slot is the recommended play.

Selections

Win: Jet Pack (POST 7) Place: Peytons Honor (POST 4) Show: Keen Gal (POST 6)

RACE 6 — Post 4:35 — 2200f | D | R | Alw 5000s | BUN | Purse $20,000

One mile and three-eighths, the longest race of the card, in a restricted allowance with a $20,000 purse. Nine horses. Mcmoney (POST 5) at 3-1 is the morning-line favorite.

Pace Analysis

At 2200 feet, this is a genuine distance test on a tight oval. Horses will travel roughly eleven furlongs, requiring stamina. Mcmoney (POST 5) at 3-1 is likely a horse that has demonstrated route ability. Fire Bryan (POST 1), Runningforcash (POST 6), and Big Commerce (POST 4) at 5-1 may want early positioning. The long distance should expose any limitations in fitness and stamina. Expect a slow early pace that gradually accelerates, favoring horses with proven route fitness.

Key Contenders

Mcmoney (POST 5) at 3-1 for Harry Lynch and Victor Lara is the race's morning-line choice. Lynch and Lara have been productive across today's card and a 3-1 restricted allowance choice at 2200 feet is a horse that Lynch is pointing specifically for this distance. At a $20,000 purse in a restricted allowance, Lynch has targeted this spot carefully.

Fire Bryan (POST 1) at 4-1 for Fernando Bahena and E.T. Baird draws the rail in a route where rail positions are advantageous at the start. Bahena is active today with multiple runners and Fire Bryan (POST 1) at 4-1 from the rail at 2200 feet is a legitimate top selection.

Runningforcash (POST 6) at 4-1 for Ralph Martinez and Johanis Aranguren adds another live price to the mix. Martinez is well-represented across today's card and Runningforcash (POST 6) at 4-1 is a horse with implied connections confidence.

Secondary Choices

Big Commerce (POST 4) at 5-1 for Heather Irion and T. Wales gets a favorable middle draw in a nine-horse route. Irion is a Midwest circuit trainer and 5-1 is a genuinely attractive price for a horse with tactical positioning.

Brown Reserve (POST 9) at 4-1 is the second Durham runner after Nightwind (POST 3) in this same race. Like the other multi-trainer entries today, Durham at 4-1 suggests this horse is very much alive in the betting. Felix gets the mount.

Code Runner (POST 7) at 10-1 for Hugo Rodriguez and Alexander Bendezu is the longest of the near-term prices at 10-1. Rodriguez has shown willingness to enter horses in routes today and Bendezu is having a strong meet.

Longshots

Nightwind (POST 3) at 30-1 is the second Durham runner and clearly plays second fiddle to Brown Reserve (POST 9). Santos rides, but the 30-1 price tells the story.

Double Thunder (POST 2) at 15-1 for Terry Young and Brody Martinez offers mild intrigue given Martinez's activity across the card.

Major Contender (POST 8) at 20-1 for Marvel Straub and Javour Simpson rounds out the field at the bottom of the price range.

Betting Strategy

The distance makes this race unusually vulnerable to pace collapse and late closers. Mcmoney (POST 5) and Fire Bryan (POST 1) are the two most attractive play options at fair prices. Structurally, key Mcmoney (POST 5) and Fire Bryan (POST 1) in exacta part-wheels with Runningforcash (POST 6) and Brown Reserve (POST 9) filling out. The trifecta at this distance can produce substantial returns with a modest three-horse combination involving the top four price horses.

Selections

Win: Mcmoney (POST 5) Place: Fire Bryan (POST 1) Show: Runningforcash (POST 6)

RACE 7 — Post 5:00 — 1320f | D | AO | OClm 20000n2l | BUM | Purse $38,500

The featured race of the card. Six and a half furlongs for older optional claimers who have not won two races at this level. Twelve horses with a $38,500 purse. Two runners each from Essenpreis and Childers. This is the deepest and most competitive race on today's card.

Pace Analysis

Twelve horses at six and a half furlongs on a tight oval creates maximum pace complexity. Try (POST 1), Richiesgoldengirl (POST 5), Hot T'mater (POST 6), and Arose For Lily (POST 11) all have tactical speed profiles and inside-to-middle draws that suggest early involvement. If the pace is honest, horses tracking from third to fifth position are in the ideal stalking spot. Passing Passion (POST 7) at 6-1 could be the beneficiary of a contested pace from behind.

Key Contenders

Try (POST 1) at 4-1 for John Wainwright and Emmanuel Giles draws the rail in the feature. Wainwright has been active today, and Try (POST 1) at 4-1 from the rail at six and a half furlongs has a real speed advantage if the horse can clear early.

Richiesgoldengirl (POST 5) at 4-1 for Larry Rivelli and J.E. Felix is the most regionally connected horse in the field. Rivelli is an Indiana-based trainer with meaningful presence on the Midwest circuit and a 4-1 morning line in the day's feature suggests this horse has legitimate class. Felix rides well in spots.

Arose For Lily (POST 11) at 4-1 for Edward Essenpreis and Johanis Aranguren is the second Essenpreis runner in this race alongside Hot T'mater (POST 6). As noted in Race 4, Essenpreis with two runners in a feature race signals real stable confidence. At 4-1 from post eleven, Arose For Lily (POST 11) needs a clean trip, but if it gets one, the Essenpreis barn's track record makes this horse dangerous.

Secondary Choices

Hot T'mater (POST 6) at 5-1 is the first Essenpreis runner in the feature with Ademar Santos aboard. Santos is the top rider on today's card and his presence on the Essenpreis horse at 5-1 rather than the 4-1 barn mate suggests Santos has the mount on the horse Essenpreis trusts more in the one-turn run. This is worth noting.

Passing Passion (POST 7) at 6-1 for James Watkins and Reynier Arrieta sits just outside the middle of the field. Watkins is a capable Fairmount trainer and Arrieta has been delivering solid rides. A genuine pace-scenario closer at 6-1 is a legitimate value play.

Hanabi (POST 10) at 8-1 for Arthur Coontz and Alexander Bendezu is interesting given Bendezu's strong meet. In a 12-horse field with a crowded early pace, outside horses can sneak up at big prices.

Longshots

Ladies Legacy (POST 3) at 15-1 and Show Pam (POST 8) at 15-1 are the Childers barn runners, with Brody Martinez on Ladies Legacy (POST 3) and A.O. Stanley on Show Pam (POST 8). In a 12-horse field, both are possible trifecta completers.

Chasing Seattle (POST 2) at 30-1, Lauren's War (POST 4) at 30-1, Harper Briana (POST 9) at 30-1, and I Did The Math (POST 12) at 30-1 are the extreme longshots filling the outside of this field. I Did The Math (POST 12) for John Rednour Jr. and Harold Joseph Ortega draws the outermost post, where a 30-1 horse rarely gets involved in a 12-horse sprint feature.

Betting Strategy

The feature race is where the exotic money should go. The Essenpreis dual entry of Hot T'mater (POST 6) and Arose For Lily (POST 11), combined with Richiesgoldengirl (POST 5) and Try (POST 1), creates a genuine four-horse battle. Structurally, using Hot T'mater (POST 6) and Arose For Lily (POST 11) in exacta wheels against Try (POST 1), Richiesgoldengirl (POST 5), and Passing Passion (POST 7) gives excellent coverage. For the trifecta, include Hanabi (POST 10) in the third slot as a value enhancer.

Selections

Win: Hot T'mater (POST 6) Place: Arose For Lily (POST 11) Show: Richiesgoldengirl (POST 5)

RACE 8 — Post 5:25 — 1320f | D | C | Clm 4000n1y | BUN | Purse $10,000

The finale goes six furlongs for claimers at $4,000 who have not won in the last year. Twelve horses. Granddaddylonglegs (POST 6) is the clear 2-1 morning-line favorite.

Pace Analysis

Twelve horses at $4,000 claiming — the lowest level on today's card — means inconsistency is the only certainty. The early pace will be chaotic with horses like Junior Bug (POST 1) and Swaggy George (POST 12) likely wanting to be near the front. If the pace is fast, a closer or stalker could benefit. Granddaddylonglegs (POST 6) from post six with a 2-1 morning line has the mid-field draw to settle and make one run.

Key Contenders

Granddaddylonglegs (POST 6) at 2-1 for Jose G. Rodriguez and Javier Tavares is the clear choice here. Rodriguez sends out Granddaddylonglegs (POST 6) at a career-low claiming level after evidently running it in tougher spots. At 2-1 in the finale, connections want a result today.

Swaggy George (POST 12) at 5-1 for Mark Anderson and A.O. Stanley draws the outside post in the finale. Anderson has horses in this race with Santino's Fantasy (POST 10) as well, giving him a dual entry at 15-1 and 5-1. Swaggy George (POST 12) at 5-1 is the preferred Anderson entry.

Junior Bug (POST 1) at 4-1 for Amy Nesbitt and Johanis Aranguren draws the rail. At the $4,000 claiming level, rail horses in sprints live and die by their early fractions. If Junior Bug (POST 1) gets out cleanly, the rail saves ground all the way to the wire.

Secondary Choices

Idea Man (POST 7) at 10-1 for Ralph Martinez and Brody Martinez is the family combination again, now in the finale. Martinez horses at 10-1 in closing races sometimes represent live prices when the barn is sending out multiple winners on the same card.

Latin Casino (POST 3) at 10-1 for Shane Childers and Harold Joseph Ortega represents the Childers barn in the finale. Childers has runners in Race 7 as well and finishing the card with a 10-1 horse from an active trainer is worth noting.

Cantstealmythunder (POST 9) at 15-1 for Lori Plasters and Cory Orm is an unusual name attached to a mid-priced longshot from a barn that rarely commands top odds.

Santino's Fantasy (POST 10) at 15-1 is the second Anderson entry, clearly outpriced relative to Swaggy George (POST 12).

Longshots

Full Magazine (POST 2) at 12-1 for Essenpreis and Santos is the most interesting of the longer prices in this race. Essenpreis with Santos in the finale at 12-1 is worth a serious look. The trainer-jockey combination has produced results all day and ending the card with a live 12-1 price is precisely the type of value play that rewards a full-card handicapping approach.

Minnesota Moon (POST 4) at 30-1 for Maximino Quinonez and Alexander Bendezu, Awesome Outlaw (POST 5) at 30-1 for Tracy Anderson and J.E. Felix, Highly Perfect (POST 8) at 20-1 for Quinonez and Frank Reyes, and Karayel (POST 11) at 30-1 for Ted Randazzo and Victor Lara are at extreme prices that make them difficult to advocate as anything more than deep trifecta completers.

Betting Strategy

Granddaddylonglegs (POST 6) at 2-1 is the play-or-pass favorite. The real value is using Full Magazine (POST 2) at 12-1 as a primary exotic underneath given the Essenpreis-Santos combination. Exacta using Granddaddylonglegs (POST 6) on top with Junior Bug (POST 1), Swaggy George (POST 12), Full Magazine (POST 2), and Idea Man (POST 7) underneath covers the most likely outcomes. For win bets, Granddaddylonglegs (POST 6) is the correct choice but at 2-1, limit exposure and migrate bankroll to exotics.

JOCKEY NOTES AND INSIGHTS

Ademar Santos leads the jockey analysis for today's card at Fairmount. Santos is aboard the morning-line favorite or a key contender in Races 1, 3, 6, 7, and 8. His presence on Major League (POST 8) in Race 1, Grandsonsam (POST 7) in Race 3, Jet Pack (POST 7) in Race 5, Hot T'mater (POST 6) in Race 7, and Full Magazine (POST 2) in Race 8 creates a logical betting map. When Santos is on the morning-line favorite, the horse wins at a higher rate than chance. When Santos is on a double-digit price horse like Full Magazine (POST 2) in Race 8, the trainer clearly has a specific reason for using the circuit's top rider.

Victor Lara is equally active today, with mounts in six of eight races. Lara is aboard Twirling Ridge (POST 5) in Race 1, Best Man Speech (POST 5) in Race 3, Lit Miss Hat Trick (POST 1) in Race 5, Mcmoney (POST 5) in Race 6, Lauren's War (POST 4) in Race 7, and Karayel (POST 11) in Race 8. Mcmoney (POST 5) in Race 6 is the best single bet for Lara. When Lara gets on the morning-line favorite in a Lynch-trained route, the combination has been effective.

Reynier Arrieta is the circuit's most polished pure rider and has key assignments on Irish Spark (POST 1) in Race 4 and Passing Passion (POST 7) in Race 7. Irish Spark (POST 1) at 2-1 in Race 4 is Arrieta's best opportunity to deliver a winner. Passing Passion (POST 7) at 6-1 in the feature is Arrieta's most attractive value ride.

Alexander Bendezu has been riding consistently at Fairmount this meet and is aboard horses in every race today. His key mounts are Keen Gal (POST 6) in Race 5 at 4-1 and Hot T'mater (POST 6) — wait, Bendezu's assignment in Race 7 is Hanabi (POST 10) at 8-1. Watch for Bendezu to improve his meet statistics on today's full card.

Harold Joseph Ortega rides in six of eight races and is always a factor at Fairmount when given live mounts. His key assignment is I Did The Math (POST 12) in Race 7, a tough spot at 30-1 despite being on an Ortega-caliber horse. Incorporated (POST 3) at 10-1 in Race 1 is Ortega's best value ride of the day.

Brody Martinez is the resident family jockey for the Martinez barn and rides in six races. His assignment on Ladies Legacy (POST 3) in Race 7 at 15-1 is interesting given the Childers barn's dual entry, suggesting Ladies Legacy (POST 3) may be the barn's primary runner in the feature.

TRAINER NOTES AND INSIGHTS

Edward Essenpreis is the trainer of the day at Fairmount on August 4. He saddles horses in three different races — Irish Spark (POST 1) and Bikini Martini (POST 5) in Race 4, Hot T'mater (POST 6) and Arose For Lily (POST 11) in Race 7, and Full Magazine (POST 2) in Race 8. Essenpreis's willingness to run dual entries in both Race 4 and Race 7 is a strong indicator of barn confidence. At a regional track, a trainer running two horses in the same race typically believes both are prepared and ready. The fact that Essenpreis uses Santos on Hot T'mater (POST 6) in Race 7 rather than his 4-1 entry Arose For Lily (POST 11) is a telling angle.

Mike Durham also stands out with multiple runners across Races 1, 3, 5, and 6. Durham's key horses are Major League (POST 8) in Race 1, Grandsonsam (POST 7) in Race 3, Bee Bluff (POST 3) in Race 5, and the dual entry of Nightwind (POST 3) and Brown Reserve (POST 9) in Race 6. Brown Reserve (POST 9) at 4-1 with Felix in Race 6 is the more interesting Durham horse of the pair.

Harry Lynch is another high-volume trainer today with runners in Races 2, 3, 5, and 6. Lynch's top horse is Mcmoney (POST 5) in Race 6, where the trainer appears to have specifically targeted the long-distance restricted allowance. Lynch at 3-1 in a route he has clearly pointed toward is a meaningful investment.

Larry Rivelli, though based primarily in Indiana, enters Richiesgoldengirl (POST 5) in Race 7 at 4-1. Rivelli is a sharp regional trainer who wins at a meaningful clip when pointing horses at specific conditions. His 4-1 morning line in the day's feature suggests Richiesgoldengirl (POST 5) is ready.

Fernando Bahena has Fire Bryan (POST 1) in Race 6 and Paynt By Letters (POST 3) in Race 2. The Bahena-Baird combination on Fire Bryan (POST 1) is particularly interesting in the mile-and-three-eighths restricted allowance.

Ralph Martinez sends out horses in Races 1, 6, 7, and 8, with the family jockey Brody Martinez aboard most of the barn's runners. The highest-profile Martinez runner is Runningforcash (POST 6) in Race 6 at 4-1.

John Wainwright is represented in Races 2, 5, and 7. His top choice for today is Try (POST 1) in the Race 7 feature at 4-1 with Emmanuel Giles.

BEST WAGERING STRATEGIES AND VALUE PLAYS

The Pick 5 at Fairmount typically covers Races 4 through 8, giving bettors the opportunity to roll through the card's most competitive races. Today's Pick 5 structure beginning with Race 4 offers excellent value given the multiple Essenpreis dual entries, the Lynch-trained favorite in Race 6, and the deep feature in Race 7.

For the Pick 5 anchor, Irish Spark (POST 1) in Race 4 and Granddaddylonglegs (POST 6) in Race 8 are the two clearest top choices. Using singles on both — if the pool supports it — allows bettors to spread in Races 5, 6, and 7 where the fields are deep and the outcomes uncertain.

A suggested Pick 5 structure: Irish Spark (POST 1) single in Race 4, Jet Pack (POST 7) with Peytons Honor (POST 4) and Keen Gal (POST 6) in Race 5, Mcmoney (POST 5) with Fire Bryan (POST 1) and Brown Reserve (POST 9) in Race 6, Hot T'mater (POST 6) with Arose For Lily (POST 11) and Richiesgoldengirl (POST 5) in Race 7, and Granddaddylonglegs (POST 6) single in Race 8.

This structure produces a one-by-three-by-three-by-three-by-one combination totaling 27 tickets at standard Pick 5 minimums. The key profit scenario occurs if Irish Spark (POST 1) wins Race 4, a mid-price horse like Brown Reserve (POST 9) or Fire Bryan (POST 1) hits in Race 6, and Arose For Lily (POST 11) at 4-1 delivers in Race 7. A late-race winner in that scenario with Granddaddylonglegs (POST 6) produces a Pick 5 return that justifies the full investment.

For the primary best bet of the day, Mcmoney (POST 5) in Race 6 at 3-1 in the Lynch-Lara combination targeting the longest race on the card is the play. Lynch specifically targets these types of distance conditions and 3-1 in a nine-horse restricted allowance at 2200 feet is fair value.

The single best value play of the card is Full Magazine (POST 2) in Race 8 at 12-1. Essenpreis placing Santos on a 12-1 shot in the finale at the lowest claiming level on the card is precisely the type of closer-of-card angle that generates exotic payoffs. Use Full Magazine (POST 2) underneath Granddaddylonglegs (POST 6) in all Race 8 exactas.

For race-by-race win selections: Major League (POST 8) in Race 1, Euclid Avenue (POST 5) in Race 2, Grandsonsam (POST 7) in Race 3, Irish Spark (POST 1) in Race 4, Jet Pack (POST 7) in Race 5, Mcmoney (POST 5) in Race 6, Hot T'mater (POST 6) in Race 7, and Granddaddylonglegs (POST 6) in Race 8.
