Track Surface & Bias

Retama Park's dirt surface typically plays fast and dry in midsummer evening cards, with recent meeting notes (July 31, 2026) describing a consistently quick, firm track favoring early speed. Inside to mid posts have shown a mild inside bias in the shortest sprints, with forwardly placed runners able to clear and control pace. Historically under these hot, dry conditions, front-runners and pace-pressers are advantaged, while deep closers generally require an above-average setup or class edge to get involved late.

Handicapper’s Edge

On today's dirt card, upgrade horses with strong gate speed, tactical early pace, and proven form over fast Retama dirt, especially from inside and middle draws.
