Ajax Downs — Race Day Overview — September 16, 2026

Ajax Downs returns to action on Wednesday, September 16, 2026, with a seven-race card of Quarter Horse and paint sprinting action on the Ontario oval. The card features a mix of maiden special weights, sprint index events, and allowance contests ranging from 110 feet to 350 feet, with purses spanning $11,500 to $14,000. The track's compact, lightning-fast format rewards horses with explosive early speed, clean breaks, and the athletic conformation suited to North America's premier Canadian Quarter Horse venue.

Today's card offers a strong cross-section of the Ajax Downs condition book. Races 1 through 4 are restricted to maidens and sprint index entrants, while Races 5 and 6 step up to allowance conditions. Race 7 rounds out the afternoon with a 250-foot sprint index worth $12,500. Trainer Joe Tavares saddles horses in six of the seven races, making him the dominant stable to watch all day. James Bogar and Jason Pascoe each have strong representation as well, with multiple entries spread across the card. Jockey Ismael Eluid Mosqueira is positioned for a high-volume day, drawing mounts in Races 1 through 6.

The Ajax Downs quarter horse circuit operates on a condensed format where fractions of a second separate winners from also-rans. Class distinctions at this level are subtle, and current form, gate ability, and trainer intent carry outsized weight in any sound handicapping approach. Connections that regularly campaign horses at Ajax Downs have a significant edge over horses making their first appearance at the track's unique short-course format.

Weather and Track Conditions — September 16, 2026

Mid-September in Windsor, Ontario typically brings comfortable fall racing conditions. For September 16, 2026, the forecast calls for partly cloudy skies with temperatures in the upper teens Celsius, roughly 65 to 68 degrees Fahrenheit. Light winds are expected from the northwest at 10 to 15 kilometers per hour, which should have minimal impact on sprint times. No significant precipitation is in the forecast leading into race day, suggesting the track surface will be fast and conducive to quick times.

Ajax Downs maintains a well-groomed dirt surface, and after a dry stretch leading into mid-September, the track is expected to be rated fast or good. A firm, consistent surface with a slight cushion typically favors horses that can achieve immediate traction out of the gate. No track maintenance alerts or surface anomalies have been reported for today's card.

Track Bias and Post Position Analysis

Ajax Downs is a short-course Quarter Horse track, and the geometry of its starting chutes creates distinct patterns that experienced handicappers have documented over multiple seasons. At distances of 220 feet and 250 feet, the inside posts carry a slight mechanical advantage due to the angle of the chute relative to the finish wire. However, at 300 feet and beyond, the advantage begins to equalize, and gate speed becomes the dominant factor rather than post position alone.

At 330 to 350 feet, outside posts are not a significant disadvantage when the horse breaks cleanly, though a crowded start can send wider horses into immediate lateral movement that costs precious fractions. In maiden sprint index events, horses breaking from posts 4 and 5 at the 220-foot and 250-foot distances have shown a competitive strike rate at Ajax Downs, suggesting the bias is not as severe as at some comparable short-course venues.

On a fast surface, speed is rewarded absolutely. There is no pace scenario at these distances that benefits a closer; every horse must fire from the gate and sustain that effort to the wire. The track historically shows a slight lean toward the inside three posts at 220 and 250 feet but becomes more balanced at 300 feet and above. Outside post holders today at the shorter distances will need extra gate sharpness to overcome any slight disadvantage.

RACE 1 — Post (12:55)/11:55/10:55/9:55 — 300f | D | S | Md Sp Wt | BUN | Purse $13,000

Pace Analysis

At 300 feet on a fast track, this maiden special weight comes down to one question: which horse breaks the fastest and sustains it. With four horses sharing the 2-1 morning line, the race is wide open from a form perspective. Expect maximum early pressure from the gate with Jumpin Dashin Willie (POST 1), Goodlookingperry (POST 3), and Politically Intoit (POST 4) all capable of pressing from their respective positions. Stonecutter Form (POST 5) adds pace pressure from the outside. The lone horse with slightly more space at the 4-1 morning line is Chiseled Fate (POST 2), positioned to benefit if the field breaks unevenly.

Key Contenders

Jumpin Dashin Willie (POST 1) draws the rail in this maiden special weight, and under Cassandra Jeschke for trainer Chantelle Bourgeois, the connections have shown a consistent ability to prepare horses for their debuts on the Ajax Downs circuit. At 300 feet on the inside, this horse has the pure mechanical edge of the inside post, and Jeschke has been among the more reliable gate riders on the grounds. The 2-1 morning line reflects the confidence of the connections and the respect of the oddsmakers.

Goodlookingperry (POST 3) represents trainer Joe Tavares, who dominates this circuit with numbers that are difficult to ignore. Jockey Brian Bell gives this horse a capable pilot with strong track familiarity. The 2-1 morning line is fair for a Tavares-trained debut runner at this level, and the middle of the gate at 300 feet is a comfortable position. Tavares runners are notoriously well-prepared on debut, and Goodlookingperry (POST 3) warrants respect as a co-favorite.

Politically Intoit (POST 4) rounds out the trio of 2-1 shots with trainer James Bogar and jockey Ismael Eluid Mosqueira, one of the busiest riders on the card today. Bogar is another established Ajax Downs conditioner who does not enter horses without confidence in their readiness. From post 4 at 300 feet, Politically Intoit (POST 4) has to break cleanly to avoid getting crowded between horses, but Mosqueira's experience in tight quarters is an asset.

Secondary Choices

Stonecutter Form (POST 5) is listed at 3-1 under trainer Daniel G. Stevenson and jockey Max Badal. The outside post at 300 feet is a mild concern in a five-horse field, as Stonecutter Form (POST 5) will need to break well to avoid being left at the gate while the inner horses establish their lines. Stevenson is a capable conditioner, and Badal is a reliable rider, but the combination of post and odds makes this a secondary option rather than a top play.

Longshots

Chiseled Fate (POST 2) at 4-1 under trainer Richard W. Kennedy and jockey Alexis Sanchez is the lone longer price in the race. Kennedy's stable can be spotted at value, and Sanchez is a competent rider who fires when the horse is ready. From post 2, Chiseled Fate (POST 2) has a clean look and could benefit if the three co-favorites cancel each other out. At 4-1 in a field of evenly matched co-favorites, Chiseled Fate (POST 2) offers mild exotics value as a potential price horse.

Selections

Win: Goodlookingperry (POST 3) Place: Jumpin Dashin Willie (POST 1) Show: Politically Intoit (POST 4)

Betting Strategy: With four horses at or near 2-1, this race is a prime candidate for an exacta box involving Goodlookingperry (POST 3), Jumpin Dashin Willie (POST 1), and Politically Intoit (POST 4). Including Chiseled Fate (POST 2) at 4-1 in a three-horse exacta key on top of your primary selection gives the exotic ticket some price insurance. Avoid Stonecutter Form (POST 5) on top in win wagering given the outside post at this distance.

RACE 2 — Post (1:22)/12:22/11:22/10:22 — 350f | D | N | SPI | BUN | Purse $11,500

Pace Analysis

At 350 feet, this is the longest sprint on the card and a sprint index event for non-winners. The extra distance compared to most of today's races does not dramatically change the dynamic, but it does give a fraction more time for positioning to matter. The pace will be uniformly fast from all five gates, with Srt The Final Cut (POST 2), Suge (POST 4), and Lil Mz Win (POST 5) all sharing the 2-1 line and likely to push aggressively from the break. Magic Guitar (POST 1) from the rail and Sixes Royal Maiden (POST 3) will need to match that early energy.

Key Contenders

Srt The Final Cut (POST 2) for trainer James Bogar and jockey Ismael Eluid Mosqueira is positioned perfectly from post 2. Bogar horses that draw inside posts at 350 feet frequently show well, and Mosqueira's gate presence is an asset at this distance. The 2-1 line reflects legitimate respect from oddsmakers, and this horse figures as one of the primary dangers in the race.

Lil Mz Win (POST 5) for trainer Scott Reid and jockey Alexis Sanchez is interesting from the outside at 5 horses deep. Reid is not as frequently represented on the card as Tavares or Bogar, which means when his horses enter, they often show better than their quiet presence suggests. Sanchez is among the more aggressive gate riders in today's colony, and Lil Mz Win (POST 5) at 2-1 from the outside post deserves respect, particularly if the inner horses have any issues at the break.

Suge (POST 4) represents the powerful Tavares barn with Jose Nabor Cruz aboard. Cruz is a capable substitute rider in the Tavares operation, and Suge (POST 4) from post 4 at 350 feet has a clean outside lane to work with. Tavares wins at a high rate with sprint index entrants, and Suge (POST 4) at 2-1 is a legitimate co-favorite.

Secondary Choices

Magic Guitar (POST 1) for trainer Chantelle Bourgeois and jockey Cassandra Jeschke draws the rail. At 350 feet, the inside post is not the disadvantage it might be at shorter distances, and Jeschke's experience at Ajax Downs gives this horse a chance to sit closest to the rail and control the inside lane. The 3-1 morning line is fair, and Magic Guitar (POST 1) fits comfortably as a secondary exotics inclusion.

Longshots

Sixes Royal Maiden (POST 3) at 4-1 for trainer Jason Pascoe and jockey J.B. Botello is the price horse in this field. Pascoe saddles multiple horses throughout the day, and Botello is his preferred rider, suggesting confidence in this runner's readiness. At 4-1, Sixes Royal Maiden (POST 3) can be included in exotic structures at a price that improves ticket returns if it fires.

Selections

Win: Srt The Final Cut (POST 2) Place: Suge (POST 4) Show: Lil Mz Win (POST 5)

Betting Strategy: The three co-favorites at 2-1 make straight win wagering low-value. Focus on exacta combinations using Srt The Final Cut (POST 2) and Suge (POST 4) on top, keying back to Lil Mz Win (POST 5) and Magic Guitar (POST 1). A small win bet on Sixes Royal Maiden (POST 3) at 4-1 adds upside to a tight exacta structure.

RACE 3 — Post (1:49)/12:49/11:49/10:49 — 330f | D | N | SPI | BUN | Purse $12,000

Pace Analysis

Five runners at 330 feet in a sprint index event for non-winners. The three co-favorites at 2-1 — Leanintoimperialhint (POST 1), Favorite Interest (POST 4), and Drouillard (POST 5) — will all push hard from the gates. The rail horse Leanintoimperialhint (POST 1) has the advantageous post at this distance and will look to establish position immediately. One Fabulous Wave (POST 3) at 3-1 adds a third potential speed threat, making this a full-field speed duel where the best breaker wins.

Key Contenders

Leanintoimperialhint (POST 1) draws the coveted rail for trainer James Bogar and jockey Ismael Eluid Mosqueira. At 330 feet, post 1 provides a mechanical advantage, and the Bogar-Mosqueira combination has been effective on the Ajax Downs circuit throughout the meeting. This horse is co-favored at 2-1 and is the prime Win selection in a race that sets up well for the rail.

Favorite Interest (POST 4) for trainer Jason Pascoe and jockey J.B. Botello is another 2-1 shot that figures prominently. Pascoe is sending multiple horses across today's card under Botello, and when a Pascoe horse draws co-favorite odds, the stable is typically confident. From post 4, Favorite Interest (POST 4) will need a clean break to avoid being at a positional disadvantage against the inside horses, but Botello's gate skills are sound.

Drouillard (POST 5) represents the Tavares stable with Cruz. The outside post at 330 feet is the least preferred position, and Drouillard (POST 5) will need exceptional gate speed to offset any disadvantage. At 2-1, the market does not discount the outside post heavily, which could mean this horse has shown outstanding gate ability in morning preparation.

Secondary Choices

One Fabulous Wave (POST 3) for trainer Paul Garrison and jockey Max Badal at 3-1 is the best-priced secondary option. Garrison is a less-represented conditioner on today's card, which makes his runners worth examining at a price. Post 3 at 330 feet is a neutral position, and Badal is a capable rider who can maximize gate efficiency. One Fabulous Wave (POST 3) fits as a value play in exactas at the 3-1 price.

Longshots

Ms Fixin To Win (POST 2) at 4-1 for trainer Bob Broadstock and jockey Ramiro Sanchez Castillo is the lone longer price. Broadstock is not absent from today's card entirely, and when this barn enters a horse in a sprint index event at Ajax Downs, they have shown the ability to be competitive. Ms Fixin To Win (POST 2) from post 2 has a clean position between the rail and the middle of the field. At 4-1, it offers the best price in a race full of compressed morning line odds.

Selections

Win: Leanintoimperialhint (POST 1) Place: Favorite Interest (POST 4) Show: One Fabulous Wave (POST 3)

Betting Strategy: Key Leanintoimperialhint (POST 1) on top of exactas with Favorite Interest (POST 4) and One Fabulous Wave (POST 3). Consider including Ms Fixin To Win (POST 2) in a trifecta structure in third position for upside at the 4-1 price. The outside draw of Drouillard (POST 5) makes it a lower-confidence win selection despite Tavares's strength.

RACE 4 — Post (2:16)/1:16/12:16/11:16 — 220f | D | N | SPI | BUN | Purse $13,000

Pace Analysis

The shortest sprint on the card at 220 feet produces the purest gate-to-wire race of the day. At this distance, there is no pace scenario, no trip considerations, and no room for error. All five horses must break explosively. Ivory Queen (POST 5) draws the outside in a five-horse field, which at 220 feet is the least desirable position on the card. The two Tavares horses, Ivy League Sugarbaby (POST 2) and My Royal Swinger (POST 3), are positioned to dominate the center of the starting chute, which is historically productive at this distance.

Key Contenders

Ivy League Sugarbaby (POST 2) gives trainer Joe Tavares his characteristic central-position advantage in the 220-foot sprint, with Brian Bell aboard. Bell is reliable, and the Tavares double entry at 2-1 each signals confidence from the barn. At 220 feet, Sweet Kara (POST 1) and Ivy League Sugarbaby (POST 2) share the most advantageous posts, but the Tavares connection tips the scales toward Ivy League Sugarbaby (POST 2) as the top selection.

Perryokie (POST 4) for trainer Bob Broadstock and jockey Ramiro Sanchez Castillo at 2-1 is the third co-favorite at a post that sits just outside the middle. Broadstock has competitive horses in today's card, and Perryokie (POST 4) from post 4 at 220 feet needs a strong break to overcome the slight post disadvantage relative to the inside horses. The 2-1 odds are market-generated confidence.

My Royal Swinger (POST 3) is the other Tavares horse, ridden by Corry Beland. From post 3, the horse occupies the absolute center of the gate in a five-horse field. Beland is a capable replacement rider in the Tavares barn, and My Royal Swinger (POST 3) at 2-1 is a genuine threat. The trainer's ability to have two competitive 2-1 shots in the same race says much about the depth of the Tavares operation.

Secondary Choices

Ivory Queen (POST 5) at 3-1 for trainer Jason Pascoe and jockey J.B. Botello draws the outside at 220 feet, which is the most challenging position on the card at this distance. Ajax Downs data at 220 feet consistently shows the outside post yielding a lower win rate than the inner four. Pascoe and Botello are capable, and Ivory Queen (POST 5) may have the raw ability to overcome the positional challenge, but the combination of post and distance makes this horse a secondary rather than top selection.

Longshots

Sweet Kara (POST 1) at 4-1 for trainer Jason Pascoe and jockey D.I. Benitez draws the rail. At 220 feet, the rail is actually a favorable post, and 4-1 in this spot represents genuine value. Pascoe has a pair of horses in this race, and the higher odds on Sweet Kara (POST 1) compared to Ivory Queen (POST 5) is somewhat counterintuitive given the post advantage. Benitez is a capable gate rider, and Sweet Kara (POST 1) at 4-1 is the best price play in Race 4. Trifecta and exacta inclusion is strongly recommended.

Selections

Win: Ivy League Sugarbaby (POST 2) Place: My Royal Swinger (POST 3) Show: Sweet Kara (POST 1)

Betting Strategy: Box Ivy League Sugarbaby (POST 2), My Royal Swinger (POST 3), and Sweet Kara (POST 1) in an exacta. The value in this race is Sweet Kara (POST 1) at 4-1 from the rail position — a prime single-win wager at a price that the morning line may underestimate given post position dynamics. A trifecta box using posts 1, 2, and 3 is an efficient way to cover the most likely top-three finishers.

RACE 5 — Post (2:43)/1:43/12:43/11:43 — 110f | D | A | Alw 13000b | BUN | Purse $13,000

Pace Analysis

The 110-foot allowance sprint is the shortest race at any distance possible in organized racing. At this distance, the race outcome is decided almost entirely at the break. There is no room for recovery from a bad start; the race is effectively over at the moment the gates open. Elvis The Famous (POST 4) at 2-1 is the clear market leader in a six-horse field that also includes Chasing Butterflies (POST 1) and Lights Dynasty (POST 6) at 3-1 and 4-1, respectively. The spread of distances from post 1 to post 6 matters significantly at 110 feet, where post 6 is a notable challenge.

Key Contenders

Elvis The Famous (POST 4) for trainer Bryn Robertson and jockey Ismael Eluid Mosqueira is the morning line favorite at 2-1. Robertson is a capable trainer at this level, and Mosqueira's ability to time the break at 110 feet is critical. Post 4 in a six-horse field at this distance sits in a workable middle position. The 2-1 odds signal a significant edge over the field in terms of perceived ability, and Elvis The Famous (POST 4) earns the top selection in this allowance sprint.

Chasing Butterflies (POST 1) for trainer Richard W. Kennedy and jockey Alexis Sanchez draws the rail at 110 feet, which is among the most important post advantages on the entire card today. At distances this short, the rail horse has the most direct path to the wire, and Kennedy has shown the ability to have horses ready at the allowance level. Sanchez is quick at the break. Chasing Butterflies (POST 1) at 3-1 from the rail is a genuine co-top selection and offers value relative to the favorite.

Secondary Choices

Lights Dynasty (POST 6) for trainer Joe Tavares and jockey Brian Bell draws the outside in a six-horse field at 110 feet. Tavares is the dominant trainer on the card, but the outside post at 110 feet is a significant liability. Bell would need a hair-trigger break and no stumble at all to offset the post disadvantage. At 4-1, the Tavares name tempts, but the post situation makes Lights Dynasty (POST 6) a secondary rather than primary selection.

All Outta Sugar (POST 2) for trainer Bob Broadstock and jockey Ramiro Sanchez Castillo at 5-1 draws post 2, just outside the rail. At 110 feet, post 2 is an excellent position, and the 5-1 price offers genuine exotics value if this horse can match the gate speed of the favorites. Broadstock has shown the ability to have competitive runners at the allowance level, and All Outta Sugar (POST 2) at 5-1 is a recommended trifecta inclusion.

Longshots

Chamacas Rocket (POST 3) at 10-1 for trainer Jason Pascoe and jockey J.B. Botello is a price play from a functional middle post. Pascoe fires horses at value prices occasionally, and Chamacas Rocket (POST 3) at 10-1 is worth a small win ticket alongside exotics coverage. Phil Jefferson (POST 5) at 15-1 for trainer Paul Garrison and jockey Max Badal is the longest shot on the card in this race. Garrison is lightly represented today, and the 15-1 price reflects the market's limited confidence. Phil Jefferson (POST 5) is an unlikely winner but can be included in deeper trifecta structures for minimal additional cost.

Selections

Win: Elvis The Famous (POST 4) Place: Chasing Butterflies (POST 1) Show: All Outta Sugar (POST 2)

Betting Strategy: Single Elvis The Famous (POST 4) on top in win, and use a part-wheel exacta with Chasing Butterflies (POST 1) and All Outta Sugar (POST 2) underneath. A trifecta key with Elvis The Famous (POST 4) on top, Chasing Butterflies (POST 1) second, and All Outta Sugar (POST 2) and Lights Dynasty (POST 6) third offers solid coverage. The 110-foot distance makes this the highest-variance race on the card — consider limiting exposure while maximizing the Chasing Butterflies (POST 1) exacta underneath at 3-1.

RACE 6 — Post (3:10)/2:10/1:10/12:10 — 330f | D | A | Alw 14000n2y | BUN | Purse $14,000

Pace Analysis

The featured race of the afternoon is a 330-foot allowance for horses that have not won twice in their careers. The top purse on the card at $14,000 brings out a competitive five-horse field with three horses sharing the 2-1 morning line. Cg Mega Spy (POST 1), Snow Moose (POST 2), and Had To Be Relentless (POST 3) are all at 2-1, with Spy For The Senate (POST 4) at 3-1 and Jjjohnnypopper (POST 5) at 4-1. The class of this field above the sprint index events means form is more defined, and pace figures will be more meaningful. All five horses are expected to break hard, with the inside posts holding a marginal edge at 330 feet.

Key Contenders

Cg Mega Spy (POST 1) for trainer Scott Reid and jockey Cassandra Jeschke draws the rail in the day's richest race. Reid horses showing up at co-favorite odds in the feature event deserve serious consideration, and Jeschke has proven capable of piloting horses to victory in the marquee races at Ajax Downs. The rail at 330 feet is advantageous, and Cg Mega Spy (POST 1) at 2-1 is the morning line's primary beneficiary of post position.

Had To Be Relentless (POST 3) for trainer Bryn Robertson and jockey Ismael Eluid Mosqueira is the third co-2-1 shot in this race. Robertson has been effective at the allowance level, and Mosqueira is the busiest rider on the card today — finishing up a long afternoon in the feature race. Post 3 at 330 feet is a neutral position, and Had To Be Relentless (POST 3) benefits from a clean, unobstructed path. The Robertson-Mosqueira combination has shown results at this distance and condition, making this horse the top selection in the feature.

Snow Moose (POST 2) for trainer Jason Pascoe and jockey J.B. Botello at 2-1 is the second Pascoe runner in this race alongside Spy For The Senate (POST 4). When Pascoe enters two horses in the same allowance event and both draw competitive morning line odds, it reflects a stable with genuine depth. From post 2, Snow Moose (POST 2) has a clean inside look and Botello will navigate the traffic scenario effectively. This horse is a legitimate co-top choice.

Secondary Choices

Spy For The Senate (POST 4) at 3-1 for trainer Jason Pascoe and jockey Brian Bell is the fourth horse in the race. Bell has been effective throughout the card today, and Spy For The Senate (POST 4) from post 4 has a direct outside path in a five-horse field. The 3-1 price is fair for a horse one tick below the co-favorites in market assessment, and Spy For The Senate (POST 4) is a worthwhile exacta inclusion underneath the top three.

Longshots

Jjjohnnypopper (POST 5) at 4-1 for trainer Daniel G. Stevenson and jockey Max Badal draws the outside in the feature. As the one clear price horse in the race, Jjjohnnypopper (POST 5) offers value if the inside horses encounter any interference at the break. Stevenson and Badal have been around the Ajax Downs circuit long enough to know how to prepare a horse for a 330-foot allowance sprint, and at 4-1, Jjjohnnypopper (POST 5) is a legitimate trifecta and exacta inclusion.

Selections

Win: Had To Be Relentless (POST 3) Place: Cg Mega Spy (POST 1) Show: Snow Moose (POST 2)

Betting Strategy: The feature race warrants increased investment. Key Had To Be Relentless (POST 3) on top in a win single and use a three-horse exacta box with Cg Mega Spy (POST 1), Snow Moose (POST 2), and Had To Be Relentless (POST 3). Include Jjjohnnypopper (POST 5) in trifecta structures in the third position for a potential price score. A trifecta box of posts 1, 2, and 3 followed by a key of Had To Be Relentless (POST 3) on top into posts 1, 2, 4, and 5 provides solid overall coverage.

RACE 7 — Post (3:37)/2:37/1:37/12:37 — 250f | D | N | SPI | BUN | Purse $12,500

Pace Analysis

The card closes with a seven-horse sprint index at 250 feet — the largest field of the day. At 250 feet, seven gates produce the most crowded start on the card, and the likelihood of interference at the break is elevated compared to five-horse fields. Inside posts maintain value at 250 feet, and Pagranas Boy (POST 1) and Ice Witch (POST 2) both draw favorable spots. Magic In Wonderland (POST 3) at 3-1 is the morning line leader by a meaningful margin over the field. The pace will be universally fast, with the cleanest break determining the outcome.

Key Contenders

Magic In Wonderland (POST 3) for trainer Richard W. Kennedy and jockey Alexis Sanchez is the morning line favorite at 3-1 in the finale. Kennedy has proven capable of producing winners at sprint index level, and Sanchez is a strong closer at the gate who can time the break effectively. Post 3 in a seven-horse field at 250 feet is one of the best draws possible, and Magic In Wonderland (POST 3) at 3-1 is the top selection to close out the card.

Double Dashin Corona (POST 4) for trainer Bob Broadstock and jockey Ramiro Sanchez Castillo at 4-1 is the co-second choice alongside Aspen T (POST 7). From post 4, Double Dashin Corona (POST 4) has a clear outside lane in the center of the field, and Broadstock's horses have shown up at value in sprint index events. At 4-1, this horse represents the best exacta play underneath Magic In Wonderland (POST 3).

Secondary Choices

Aspen T (POST 7) for trainer Joe Tavares and jockey Jose Nabor Cruz at 4-1 draws the outside post in a seven-horse field. As discussed throughout today's card, Tavares horses are consistently well-prepared, and Cruz is a capable rider for the barn. However, post 7 at 250 feet is the most challenging draw on the closing card, and while the Tavares connection demands respect, the outside post tempers enthusiasm for win wagering. Aspen T (POST 7) is better suited as an exacta and trifecta inclusion than a win single.

Ice Witch (POST 2) at 5-1 for trainer Dan Giles and jockey D.I. Benitez draws an excellent post in the day's final race. Giles is among the less-represented trainers on today's card, but Ice Witch (POST 2) from post 2 in a seven-horse field at 250 feet has an ideal position. At 5-1, this horse is the best-value exacta play in Race 7 and deserves consideration as a longshot win play.

Longshots

Lil Phyler (POST 5) at 7-1 for trainer Jason Pascoe and jockey J.B. Botello is a trifecta inclusion at a useful price. Pascoe is active throughout the card, and BOTELLO rounds out the day aboard one of Pascoe's longer-priced entries. At 7-1, Lil Phyler (POST 5) can be added to trifecta tickets cost-effectively. Rushn Spice (POST 6) at 15-1 for trainer Chantelle Bourgeois and jockey Cassandra Jeschke is the longest price in the finale. The outside post adjacent to post 7 and the 15-1 odds indicate the market has little confidence in this runner. Jeschke is capable, but Rushn Spice (POST 6) is best left out of all but the deepest superfecta structures. Pagranas Boy (POST 1) at 10-1 for trainer Marcus Froud and jockey Corry Beland draws the rail, which is a significant advantage at 250 feet. Froud is not heavily represented in today's card, but the rail draw at 10-1 makes Pagranas Boy (POST 1) a standout longshot play. This horse's post position alone gives it better prospects than the morning line suggests, and a small win wager alongside trifecta inclusion is recommended.

Selections

Win: Magic In Wonderland (POST 3) Place: Double Dashin Corona (POST 4) Show: Ice Witch (POST 2)

Betting Strategy: Key Magic In Wonderland (POST 3) on top in win and exactas. Use a trifecta part-wheel with Magic In Wonderland (POST 3) on top, Double Dashin Corona (POST 4) and Ice Witch (POST 2) in second, and Aspen T (POST 7), Lil Phyler (POST 5), and Pagranas Boy (POST 1) filling the third spot. A small win single on Pagranas Boy (POST 1) at 10-1 from the rail is the best longshot play to close the card.

Jockey Notes and Insights

Ismael Eluid Mosqueira is the standout rider to follow on September 16, drawing mounts in six of seven races. His book includes Politically Intoit (POST 4) in Race 1, Srt The Final Cut (POST 2) in Race 2, Leanintoimperialhint (POST 1) in Race 3, Elvis The Famous (POST 4) in Race 5, Had To Be Relentless (POST 3) in Race 6, with only the finale off. Riders with this volume of quality mounts at a one-track meet typically show elevated win percentages simply due to opportunities. Mosqueira's gate timing at Ajax Downs's ultrashort distances is a genuine skill, and connections booking him across the card signal cross-stable confidence.

Alexis Sanchez rides for multiple barns today, including Chiseled Fate (POST 2) in Race 1, Lil Mz Win (POST 5) in Race 2, Chasing Butterflies (POST 1) in Race 5, and Magic In Wonderland (POST 3) in Race 7. Sanchez is particularly strong at gate timing, and the fact that three different trainers — Kennedy, Reid, and Kennedy again — are booking her reflects a strong reputation for reliability at the break. Sanchez on Magic In Wonderland (POST 3) in the finale at 3-1 is a high-confidence pairing.

Cassandra Jeschke rides for Chantelle Bourgeois and Scott Reid across the card. Her mounts include Jumpin Dashin Willie (POST 1) in Race 1, Cg Mega Spy (POST 1) in Race 6, and Rushn Spice (POST 6) in Race 7. The Cg Mega Spy (POST 1) ride in the feature race is her best opportunity of the day, as the rail in a 330-foot allowance with Reid's confidence behind it is a prime spot.

J.B. Botello serves as Jason Pascoe's primary rider throughout the card, appearing in Races 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, and 7. Botello's ability to execute Pascoe's instructions at the break makes him a reliable piece of the Pascoe racing operation. His busiest day aligns with Pascoe's heaviest representation on the card.

Max Badal rides five races on the card, including One Fabulous Wave (POST 3) in Race 3 and Jjjohnnypopper (POST 5) in the feature. Badal rounds out the regular riding colony at Ajax Downs and is a capable option in the middle of the odds spectrum.

Trainer Notes and Insights

Joe Tavares is the trainer story of the day, saddling runners in six of seven races. His entries span the full range of conditions, from sprint index to allowance, and span distances from 220 to 350 feet. The Tavares operation typically shows a win percentage well above the track average, and multiple connections across the card — Cruz, Bell, and Beland — trust this barn to put forward competitive horses. Specifically notable are the double entries in Race 4 with Ivy League Sugarbaby (POST 2) and My Royal Swinger (POST 3), and the presence of Suge (POST 4) in Race 2 and Drouillard (POST 5) in Race 3. Lights Dynasty (POST 6) in Race 5 and Aspen T (POST 7) in Race 7 close out a dominant day for the barn. When Tavares enters horses in the same race, handicappers should assess each on individual merit rather than simply following the barn blindly — but the outside posts today (DROUILLARD in Race 3, ASPEN T in Race 7) temper enthusiasm slightly.

Jason Pascoe is second in terms of volume, with horses in five races and multiple entries in Race 4 and Race 6. Pascoe's double in Race 6 with Snow Moose (POST 2) and Spy For The Senate (POST 4) in the feature event is notable. Pascoe trainers tend to peak at the end of the card, and a strong finish to Race 6 or Race 7 would not be surprising from this stable.

James Bogar has key horses in Races 1, 2, and 3. His connection to Mosqueira throughout the first half of the card gives this barn strong jockey support. Bogar's Leanintoimperialhint (POST 1) in Race 3 from the rail is the most compelling Bogar entry of the day.

Chantelle Bourgeois saddles runners in Races 1, 2, and 7, typically working with Jeschke. The Bourgeois barn is a steady presence at Ajax Downs without the volume of Tavares or Pascoe, making individual entries more targeted rather than carpet-bombed across conditions.

Richard W. Kennedy sends out horses in Races 1, 5, and 7, with the Race 7 entry Magic In Wonderland (POST 3) being the most compelling. Kennedy horses at allowance and sprint index conditions in the back half of the card have shown the ability to deliver.

Bryn Robertson saddles Elvis The Famous (POST 4) in Race 5 and Had To Be Relentless (POST 3) in Race 6. Both are co-favorites, suggesting Robertson's horses are arriving at peak fitness heading into the September portion of the meet.

Best Wagering Strategies and Value Plays

The Pick 4 connecting Races 4 through 7 is the marquee sequence for serious exotic players today. The recommended singles and spreads are as follows: In Race 4, single Ivy League Sugarbaby (POST 2) while including Sweet Kara (POST 1) as a secondary. In Race 5, single Elvis The Famous (POST 4) or spread to include Chasing Butterflies (POST 1). In Race 6, use Had To Be Relentless (POST 3) and Cg Mega Spy (POST 1) as a two-horse key. In Race 7, spread to include Magic In Wonderland (POST 3), Double Dashin Corona (POST 4), and Ice Witch (POST 2). A Pick 4 ticket using two selections in Race 4, two in Race 5, two in Race 6, and three in Race 7 costs a modest investment for a potential multi-race payout that could exceed $200 to $500 on a $1 base ticket if one or two prices land.

The best single-race value play on the card is Sweet Kara (POST 1) at 4-1 in Race 4. The rail at 220 feet is historically among the most advantageous positions at Ajax Downs, and 4-1 against a pair of Tavares co-favorites and a Broadstock co-favorite is a price the market may not fully reflect. A straight win wager on Sweet Kara (POST 1) is the strongest overlay of the card.

The best longshot play is Pagranas Boy (POST 1) at 10-1 in Race 7. The rail in a seven-horse field at 250 feet is a structural advantage that the 10-1 price underestimates. Froud horses at this odds level from an inside post have fired before at Ajax Downs, and a small win wager combined with trifecta inclusion makes Pagranas Boy (POST 1) the closing-day price play.

For daily double players, the Race 6 and Race 7 daily double combining Had To Be Relentless (POST 3) with Magic In Wonderland (POST 3) is a clean two-horse win ticket at odds that should produce a solid return given both are morning line favorites. Alternating the ticket to include Cg Mega Spy (POST 1) in Race 6 with Magic In Wonderland (POST 3) in Race 7 adds coverage at modest additional cost.

The exacta in Race 5 deserves attention. Chasing Butterflies (POST 1) at 3-1 from the rail at 110 feet underneath Elvis The Famous (POST 4) at 2-1 is a clean, high-probability ticket. The reverse — Chasing Butterflies (POST 1) on top over Elvis The Famous (POST 4) — is the upset play worth a half-unit given the rail advantage at 110 feet.

Overall card strategy: Follow Mosqueira and Sanchez as the volume riders, respect the Tavares stable while noting outside post liabilities, and look for value wherever Pascoe or Kennedy horses appear at prices of 3-1 or better. The best win singles of the day are Had To Be Relentless (POST 3) in Race 6 and Magic In Wonderland (POST 3) in Race 7. The best value play is Sweet Kara (POST 1) in Race 4. The best exotic structure is the Pick 4 from Races 4 through 7.
