Pick Pony Track Condition Report — Los Alamitos, October 17, 2026
Weather Forecast
Sunny and hot conditions are expected, with a high in the low-to-mid 80s. Dry northeast to east winds should be noticeable, with stronger gusts possible across Southern California; no meaningful precipitation threat is indicated.
Track Surface & Bias
With a dry, fast dirt surface and no recent rain expected, Los Alamitos should favor speed, tactical position, and runners able to secure the lead or sit just off it. Inside-to-middle posts may offer the cleanest trip, while wide-drawn closers could lose ground unless the pace becomes unusually demanding. Strong offshore winds add some uncertainty, particularly for horses exposed on the outside.
Handicapper’s Edge
Give extra credit to front-runners and stalkers with proven dirt speed, especially those drawn near the inside or middle. Downgrade deep closers and wide posts unless the race projects a contested pace or the horse has demonstrated the ability to handle fast, demanding conditions.
