Emphatic turned a demanding pace setup into a breakthrough moment for Brendan Walsh, accelerating past the leaders on Keeneland's far turn before holding off the fast-closing Miss Monica to win the $2 million Breeders' Cup Juvenile Fillies (G1) by 1 1/2 lengths. The victory kept the Gainesway Stable and Andrew Rosen color-bearer perfect through four starts and finally gave Walsh a Breeders' Cup win in his 14th attempt. The Breeders' Cup's official race report confirmed the result and connections.
Tyler Gaffalione placed Emphatic just behind Lexi's Charm, who carved out sharp fractions of :22 3/5 and :45 4/5 under Umberto Rispoli. That positioning proved decisive. When Gaffalione asked on the far turn, the daughter of Nyquist quickly separated from the field, opening what appeared to be a winning margin before Miss Monica recovered from a troubled beginning. The final time for 1 1/16 miles on a fast track was 1:42 2/5, and Emphatic returned $7.32 to win.
Miss Monica's runner-up finish deserves substantial credit. The 2-1 favorite was bumped by Rum Twist after breaking inward and stood 10th of 12 down the backstretch. Flavien Prat kept her composed, launched an inside rally and got within striking range, but even that recovery could not overcome the head start supplied to Emphatic. Bob Baffert, Miss Monica's trainer, said the filly had run an “incredible race,” while acknowledging that the winner could not be given that much advantage.
Emphatic arrived with the strongest recent résumé in the field. Her first three victories came by a combined 13 1/4 lengths, and she had already handled both two-turn racing and the Keeneland surface in the Oct. 2 Darley Alcibiades Stakes (G1). That prior experience mattered in a race where Lexi's Charm supplied genuine pressure and the favorite encountered immediate adversity. Emphatic's ability to track, produce a powerful middle move and still finish after the early pace is a more meaningful form signal than an easy wire-to-wire score.
The result also gave Walsh a long-awaited championship breakthrough. His previous 13 Breeders' Cup starters had produced no better than a third-place finish, with his earlier near-misses including fourth-place efforts in the 2025 Distaff and Juvenile Fillies Turf. “I'm really ecstatic,” Walsh said in the official Breeders' Cup report, crediting Gaffalione and the team that developed the filly.
Manuka Honey finished third, 8 1/4 lengths behind Miss Monica, while Domain Expansion was fourth. Emphatic now enters the winter as an early Kentucky Oaks prospect, although the next test will be converting her high-class juvenile speed and Keeneland experience to a longer spring campaign. For now, her unbeaten record, Grade 1 wins at Keeneland and demonstrated ability to win from just off the pace make her one of the most credible early leaders of the 2027 3-year-old filly division.
