Race Day Overview — Aqueduct Racetrack, Saturday April 18, 2026

The Big A closes out its spring meet stretch with a nine-race Saturday card highlighted by the Grade 3-equivalent Bay Shore Stakes (Listed, $150,000) in Race 4, drawing a compact five-horse field of three-year-olds going a mile and a sixteenth on the main track. Beyond the feature, the card is stacked with allowance company on both dirt and turf, a pair of maiden special weight events, and a deep optional claiming mile on the grass in Race 8 that carries the largest field of the day at sixteen horses. New York Racing Association's Aqueduct plant has been active through the mid-April stretch, and the turf course at Aqueduct has been confirmed open following the delayed start to turf racing at the Big A that was reported earlier this week, with NYRA having staged its first turf races of the spring on Thursday, April 17.

The card draws a strong jockey colony headlined by J.J. Castellano, Manuel Franco, Jose Lezcano, Kendrick Carmouche, Ricardo Santana Jr., and Jamie Rodriguez, with trainer representation from Chad Brown, Todd Pletcher, Brad Cox, William Mott, Linda Rice, Saffie Joseph Jr., and Norm Casse among the key barns to watch.

The Bay Shore is a key local prep on the road toward the Kentucky Derby and Kentucky Oaks cycle, and the morning line has installed Solitude Dude (POST 1) as the heavy favorite under the Saffie Joseph Jr./J.J. Castellano combination. Elsewhere, Tampa Bay Derby winner The Puma and related Derby hopefuls are being pointed toward Louisville while local three-year-olds battle it out in the Bay Shore on this Aqueduct card.

The Plenty of Grace Stakes result from Friday, April 17, confirms that turf racing conditions on the East Coast are producing competitive fields and live longshot prices in allowance and stakes company on the grass, a trend worth noting for Races 2, 5, and 8 on today's card.

Weather and Track Conditions

Forecast for Ozone Park, New York on April 18, 2026 calls for partly cloudy skies with temperatures in the mid-50s Fahrenheit at post time. Winds are expected from the west-northwest at approximately 10-15 mph, which at Aqueduct can create a headwind through the stretch for routes going long. No significant precipitation is anticipated through the afternoon, leaving the main track listed as fast and the inner turf course listed as firm to good. The outer turf at Aqueduct is not in use for this card. Track maintenance crews have had favorable drying conditions following earlier-week rainfall, and the fast main track has been confirmed for Saturday's racing. The firm turf favors horses with good tactical speed rather than deep closers who need a yielding surface to generate momentum.

Track Bias and Post Position Analysis

Aqueduct's one-turn mile configuration creates a well-documented early speed bias when the main track is rated fast, particularly in routes at six furlongs and one mile. Horses that can secure position on or near the lead through the opening quarter and into the first turn have a strong historical advantage at this plant in fast conditions, and the rail has been no negative — inside posts have been competitive through the recent meet. On the turf course, with the firm rating and the tight turns of the Aqueduct inner oval, horses with tactical speed or the ability to save ground along the inside are at a premium. Pure closers on the turf here need a hot pace scenario and clean running room. Post positions 1 through 5 on the turf are historically preferred, though the large fields in Races 5 and 8 can shuffle those dynamics. In maiden dirt sprints and routes, early pace control has proven decisive during the current meet, making pace setters and stalkers with a proven first-quarter punch the overlays to attack.

RACE 1 — Post (1:10) — 1320f | D | A | Alw 77000n1x | BUM | Purse $77,000

Fillies and mares, non-winners of a race other than maiden, claiming, or starter, going one mile on the main track. A full field of six goes in this afternoon opener with a competitive morning line spread.

Race 1

Pace Analysis

This is a field without a dominant gate speed horse at first glance, which sets up for a contested but manageable pace scenario. Cloudy Chance (POST 5) and Graceful Rose (POST 4) are both likely to show early interest, with Helen's Revenge (POST 3) as a potential presser. The pace should be honest but not suicidal — expect fractions in the :23-:24 range for the opening quarter with the field strung out by the half. A wire-to-wire scenario is possible if one horse gets loose on the lead, which would benefit the horse with the best tactical positioning into the first turn from an inside post.

Key Contenders

Graceful Rose (POST 4) draws favorable inside-out position under Jamie Rodriguez for trainer Michael Gorham and comes in as the 3-1 morning line choice. She enters this spot having shown competitive form against similar company and fits the conditions well. Rodriguez has been reliable in these allowance spots at NYRA, and Gorham's barn is live when dropping into the first allowance condition. Expect her to stalk the pace from second or third and unleash a sustained run in the final three-sixteenths.

Helen's Revenge (POST 3) at 4-1 for Linda Rice and Jose Lezcano is a deeply respected barn-and-rider combination at this level. Rice has consistently produced horses ready for their first allowance try, and Lezcano's knowledge of the Aqueduct surface is second to none in the current colony. Helen's Revenge (POST 3) should rate kindly behind the pace and figures to be involved in a productive stretch duel.

Secondary Choices

Cloudy Chance (POST 5) trained by Chris Englehart and piloted by Manuel Franco brings honest pace figures to the table and deserves respect at 4-1. Englehart is one of the better condition-spot trainers in the NYRA circuit and does not waste starts. Franco, the leading NYRA rider, gives this horse every chance in a tactical one-turn mile.

D's A Rock (POST 1) at 5-1 for William Morey and Christopher Elliott has a post position advantage along the rail that cannot be ignored on a surface that has been rewarding inside stalkers. Elliott is underrated at Aqueduct and has hit the board at a respectable clip this spring.

Longshots

Sunshine Lily (POST 2) at 6-1 for Gregory DiPrima and Kendrick Carmouche is a name to respect on ability alone — Carmouche rarely takes a throwaway mount in a six-horse field. DiPrima horses can improve dramatically between starts. Admiral Sol (POST 6) at 8-1 for Joseph Lee and Sahin Civaci faces a wide post draw and class questions that make the morning line accurate enough to dismiss as a win contender, though a superfecta inclusion makes sense at the price.

Selections

Win: Helen's Revenge (POST 3) Place: Graceful Rose (POST 4) Show: Cloudy Chance (POST 5)

Betting Strategy: Key Helen's Revenge (POST 3) over Graceful Rose (POST 4) and Cloudy Chance (POST 5) in exactas. In the trifecta, use Helen's Revenge (POST 3) and Graceful Rose (POST 4) on top with D's A Rock (POST 1) and Cloudy Chance (POST 5) underneath. Six-horse field presents a manageable trifecta investment.

RACE 2 — Post (1:38) — 1760f | T | A | Alw 83000n1x | BUM | Purse $83,000

Fillies and mares, non-winners of a race other than maiden, claiming, or starter allowance, going one mile on the inner turf. A full field of eight goes, with two Chad Brown horses in the race including the morning line favorite Sandtrap (POST 5) at even money.

Race 2

Pace Analysis

Sandtrap (POST 5) may be content to rate off the pace in a field that could see Agia Marina (POST 1) or Pookie (POST 7) establish early fractions. The firm turf setup here means pace will be honest but the surface should hold up for late runners. With Brunch With Amy (POST 8) as Carmouche's mount for Rice at 2-1, expect two well-backed horses to race within striking distance of whatever pace develops. The inside post belongs to Agia Marina (POST 1) under Amelia Green, who has been quietly competent with her NYRA turf shippers. A pace collapse in the stretch is unlikely on firm turf — the winner will likely be a horse with a turn of foot in the final quarter.

Key Contenders

Sandtrap (POST 5) at even money under Manuel Franco for Chad Brown is the clear public choice and deserves to be. Brown's barn converts first-time allowance starters on the turf at an elite rate, and Sandtrap (POST 5) figures to have been specifically pointed toward this condition. Franco knows Brown's horses and is regularly at his best on turf routes. Respect the price but look elsewhere for value.

Brunch With Amy (POST 8) at 2-1 for Linda Rice and Kendrick Carmouche sets up as the natural key to beating the favorite. Rice has multiple horses in this race and bringing Brunch With Amy (POST 8) in at post eight with Carmouche suggests she is her barn's best chance. Carmouche's numbers on turf routes at this distance are competitive, and the outside post on a firm course is not the liability it would be on a wet surface.

Secondary Choices

Pookie (POST 7) at 6-1 for Thomas Morley and Ricardo Santana Jr. represents genuine value. Santana has been excellent on the NYRA turf circuit this spring and is not a rider who gets on horses he cannot win with in allowance company. Pookie (POST 7) at 6-1 is a serious exotic play. Agia Marina (POST 1) at 5-1 under Jamie Rodriguez for Amelia Green gets the rail and figures to control or press the pace — on a firm course that can be gold.

Longshots

Scarlett's Halo (POST 2) at 8-1 is Chad Brown's second entry and should not be dismissed even at the longer price — Brown sometimes wins with the longer-priced barn mate. Thiene (POST 3) at 8-1 for Linda Rice is another Rice runner who warrants exacta coverage given the barn's depth of local knowledge. Trail Of Gold (POST 4) at 4-1 under David Donk/Sahin Civaci is a fair price for a horse that can stalk on firm turf. Widdershins (POST 6) at 50-1 is a genuine throwout at this level. Include Trail Of Gold (POST 4) in exotics but set Widdershins (POST 6) aside.

Selections

Win: Sandtrap (POST 5) Place: Brunch With Amy (POST 8) Show: Pookie (POST 7)

Betting Strategy: With Sandtrap (POST 5) at even money, the win bet offers poor value. Concentrate on exactas using Sandtrap (POST 5) and Brunch With Amy (POST 8) on top with Pookie (POST 7) and Agia Marina (POST 1) underneath. A $2 exacta box of Sandtrap (POST 5), Brunch With Amy (POST 8), and Pookie (POST 7) at 6-1 is the play for value.

RACE 3 — Post (2:11) — 1540f | D | AO | OClm 50000n1x | BUM | Purse $83,000

Fillies and mares, optional claiming for $50,000, non-winners of two races lifetime, going one mile and seventy yards on the main track. Six fillies and mares contest this optional claimer with a rich purse relative to the claiming price.

Race 3

Pace Analysis

Bernieandtherose (POST 1) and Filly Freedom (POST 5) share co-favorite status at 2-1, suggesting the race will be competitively run from the front. With Romantic Dancer (POST 2) under Richard Dutrow likely to also show early speed, the fractions should be honest and this race could set up for a closer or a stalker with tactical ability. The one-mile-and-seventy-yard distance slightly favors horses with stamina over pure sprinters, and the distance around one turn suits a horse that can get a clean run from off the pace.

Key Contenders

Bernieandtherose (POST 1) at 2-1 for Dominick Schettino and Jamie Rodriguez draws the favorable rail post and has the profile of a horse that fits this spot precisely — a lightly raced filly whose best is ahead of her in the optional claiming ranks. Schettino is a competent NYRA conditioner who targets spots well, and Rodriguez has been consistent in stakes and allowance company. The rail in a six-horse field at one mile is a legitimate weapon.

Filly Freedom (POST 5) at 2-1 for Chad Brown and Manuel Franco is the power-barn threat. Brown's optional claiming runners are often just horses being positioned for a move up the conditions ladder, and Filly Freedom (POST 5) with Franco aboard is the type of horse that can control the race from the outside or rate comfortably behind whatever pace develops.

Secondary Choices

Romantic Dancer (POST 2) at 3-1 for Richard Dutrow and Ruben Silvera deserves respect. Dutrow has been training winners at this level throughout the meet, and Romantic Dancer (POST 2) at 3-1 offers fair value against the two co-favorites if she can establish her preferred position early from post two. Always Practical (POST 6) at 5-1 for Linda Rice and Kendrick Carmouche is a Rice-Carmouche combination that is always live in NYRA optional claiming races. Post six is manageable in a six-horse field.

Longshots

Sarir (POST 3) at 6-1 for Linda Rice and Jose Lezcano is an interesting secondary Rice runner at a better price than Always Practical (POST 6). Rice saddling two horses here is a meaningful tell — she believes in her horses' chances. Kadena (POST 4) at 8-1 for Fernando Abreu and Dylan Davis is the realistic throwout at this level — the morning line reflects honest skepticism about ability.

Selections

Win: Bernieandtherose (POST 1) Place: Filly Freedom (POST 5) Show: Romantic Dancer (POST 2)

Betting Strategy: In a six-horse field with two 2-1 co-favorites, focus on exactas. Bernieandtherose (POST 1) over Filly Freedom (POST 5) at roughly 4-1 is the play. Trifecta structure: Bernieandtherose (POST 1) and Filly Freedom (POST 5) on top over Romantic Dancer (POST 2) and Always Practical (POST 6). Consider a small win bet on Romantic Dancer (POST 2) at 3-1 as a single value play.

RACE 4 — Post (2:44) — 1540f | D | N | BayShoreL150k | BON | Purse $150,000

The Bay Shore, a Listed stakes for three-year-olds going one mile and seventy yards on the main track. Five-horse field with significant potential implications for the Kentucky Derby and Oaks conversation.

Race 4

Pace Analysis

With only five horses, pace scenarios are easier to map. Solitude Dude (POST 1) at even money under J.J. Castellano for Saffie Joseph Jr. gets the rail and figures to control the pace from the front. Igniter (POST 4) under Manuel Franco for Richard Dutrow is the most likely early challenger. Time To Roll (POST 5) from the Horacio De Paz barn under Jamie Rodriguez will likely settle in a pressing or stalking position. Fulmine (POST 3) under Ricardo Santana Jr. for Norm Casse and Racetrack Romance (POST 2) under Andy Hernandez for Hugo Padilla will occupy the back of the pace scenario. The pace should be honest given Igniter (POST 4)'s presence but not suicidal in a small fieldSolitude Dude (POST 1) is talented enough to control tempo and still have something in reserve.

Key Contenders

Solitude Dude (POST 1) is the deserving morning line favorite at even money. The combination of Saffie Joseph Jr. — one of the hottest trainers in the country over recent seasons — and Hall of Famer J.J. Castellano is as formidable as it gets in the NYRA stakes ranks. The rail post in a five-horse field at this distance is a gift rather than a disadvantage. Solitude Dude (POST 1) has the tactical speed to set a comfortable pace and the class to repel late challenges. He is the most likely winner.

Igniter (POST 4) at 2-1 for Richard Dutrow and Manuel Franco is the most legitimate threat to the chalk. Dutrow has been in excellent form during the current NYRA meet, and Franco has the experience to make the favorite work in a two-horse pace duel. Igniter (POST 4) at 2-1 is not generous value against the favorite but represents the natural win alternative in this small field.

Secondary Choices

Fulmine (POST 3) at 6-1 for Norm Casse and Ricardo Santana Jr. represents meaningful value in a five-horse field. Casse is a thoughtful conditioner who rarely sends horses into stakes spots without preparation, and Fulmine (POST 3) at 6-1 is a legitimate each-way play for bettors looking to beat the favorite. Santana Jr. is riding with confidence at this meet.

Time To Roll (POST 5) at 6-1 for Horacio De Paz and Jamie Rodriguez is the tactical wild card. De Paz horses can surprise in spots like this, and Rodriguez at 6-1 in a five-horse stakes has win-bet appeal. The outside post is a minor concern but not a deal-breaker in such a small field.

Longshots

Racetrack Romance (POST 2) at 12-1 for Hugo Padilla and Andy Hernandez is a clear throwout at the stakes level. The morning line accurately reflects the class gap between Racetrack Romance (POST 2) and the top contenders. Include in superfectas only.

Selections

Win: Solitude Dude (POST 1) Place: Igniter (POST 4) Show: Fulmine (POST 3)

Betting Strategy: In a five-horse stakes, Solitude Dude (POST 1) at even money is not a value win bet. The play is to use Solitude Dude (POST 1) and Igniter (POST 4) on top of exactas with Fulmine (POST 3) and Time To Roll (POST 5) underneath. An exacta box of all four logical contenders is reasonable. Fulmine (POST 3) at 6-1 and Time To Roll (POST 5) at 6-1 both warrant small win bets as overlays against the favorite price.

RACE 5 — Post (3:16) — 1760f | T | A | Alw 77000n1x | BUM | Purse $77,000

Fillies and mares, non-winners of a race other than maiden, claiming, or starter, going one mile on the inner turf. Fourteen-horse field with an exceptionally wide morning line spread — a bettor's race with multiple angles.

Race 5

Pace Analysis

Fourteen horses on the inner turf at one mile creates a complex pace scenario. With Cosmic Candy Girl (POST 9) at 2-1 and Full Pour (POST 12) at 2-1 as co-favorites on the morning line, both presumably have similar tactical profiles. Downtown Channel (POST 7) at 3-1 under Ricardo Santana Jr. for Horacio De Paz could show early speed from the preferred inner portion of the field. Heavenly Light (POST 1) at 10-1 will be on or near the pace from the rail. Fourteen horses means traffic trouble is nearly certain for closers — the premium here goes to horses that can settle in position early without getting shuffled back. Early and middle fractions should be quick with this many horses, which could benefit a late runner with a clean trip.

Key Contenders

Cosmic Candy Girl (POST 9) at 2-1 for James Ryerson and Kendrick Carmouche is one of the co-morning-line favorites. Carmouche is one of the most reliable turf-route riders in the NYRA colony, and Cosmic Candy Girl (POST 9) at 2-1 reflects serious support. In a fourteen-horse turf mile, the pace scenario is the biggest variable, but Carmouche's ability to find the right trip is a genuine asset.

Full Pour (POST 12) at 2-1 under Jamie Rodriguez for Mark Hennig is the other morning line co-favorite. Hennig is an established NYRA turf conditioner who targets these allowance spots methodically, and Full Pour (POST 12) from post twelve will need a clean trip with fourteen horses. Rodriguez is an aggressive rider who can navigate traffic in a large field.

Downtown Channel (POST 7) at 3-1 under Ricardo Santana Jr. for Horacio De Paz gets a favorable inside-field draw and figures to be perfectly placed early. At 3-1, this is the value-forward play in the race — third on the morning line but in ideal post position relative to both co-favorites.

Secondary Choices

Unmiztaken (POST 6) at 5-1 under Manuel Franco for Keri Brion has a compact post position that keeps her near the inside early. Franco's ability on turf routes is established, and Unmiztaken (POST 6) at 5-1 is a genuine live second option. Starlight Dancer (POST 5) at 6-1 for Michelle Nevin and Luis R. Rivera Jr. is another inside-draw turf horse that warrants exacta and trifecta coverage. Blue Note (POST 11) at 6-1 for Linda Rice and Dylan Davis is a bit far out in post position but Rice's local turf knowledge and Davis aboard make Blue Note (POST 11) a legitimate exotic piece. Top Of The Table (POST 14) at 3-1 for Linda Rice and Sahin Civaci will face a tactical challenge from post fourteen in a fourteen-horse field but Rice's second entry in this race at a matching morning line price is a signal worth heeding.

Longshots

Blue Note (POST 11) at 6-1 as noted above merits inclusion. Pocket Queens (POST 10) at 8-1 for Miguel Clement and Sahin Civaci is an interesting late-price piece — Clement knows the turf game at NYRA well. Timia (POST 13) at 8-1 for Wayne Potts and Edgard Zayas offers an outside price but the post position and trainer combination are challenging. Heavenly Light (POST 1) at 10-1 for Horacio De Paz and Rodriguez gets the rail — in a large turf field, that is a genuine positive. Lady Wisdom (POST 3) at 10-1 for William Morey and Christopher Elliott is a fair price but the morning line reflects honest credentials. Quick Power Nap (POST 4) at 12-1 for Rudy Rodriguez and Reylu Gutierrez could surprise at a price if the pace collapses. Queen Sally (POST 2) at 20-1 and Lonchura (POST 8) at 50-1 are throwouts for win purposes but can be used minimally in wide-open trifecta/superfecta structures.

Selections

Win: Downtown Channel (POST 7) Place: Cosmic Candy Girl (POST 9) Show: Unmiztaken (POST 6)

Betting Strategy: With fourteen horses and two co-favorites at 2-1, this race is a prime exotic opportunity. Focus on a trifecta using Downtown Channel (POST 7) and Cosmic Candy Girl (POST 9) on top, with Unmiztaken (POST 6), Starlight Dancer (POST 5), Blue Note (POST 11), and Full Pour (POST 12) underneath. In a race this wide, a $1 trifecta box or wheel can pay handsomely. Do not overlook Top Of The Table (POST 14) as a Rice sleeper if she navigates the post cleanly.

RACE 6 — Post (3:48) — 1870f | t | S | Md Sp Wt | BON | Purse $75,000

Maiden special weight for three-year-olds and up going one mile and three-sixteenths on the inner turf. Nine horses with a competitive morning line.

Race 6

Pace Analysis

A maiden turf route of this distance tends to produce a slow or moderate pace as inexperienced horses feel their way around the turns. Homewood Hustle (POST 6) at 3-1 under Manuel Franco for William Walden is likely to be the pace setter based on his morning line position as the chalk. High Leverage (POST 5) at 4-1 under Jose Lezcano for Jose Francisco D'Angelo is the presser profile. With a nine-horse maiden turf field, the pace should be soft enough to allow closers an opportunity — the mile and three-sixteenths distance specifically benefits horses with stamina, and this distance can catch sprinter types who go too fast early.

Key Contenders

Homewood Hustle (POST 6) at 3-1 for William Walden and Manuel Franco is the morning line choice and Franco's presence at the top of the market demands respect. Franco has been selective and effective this spring, and Homewood Hustle (POST 6) appears to be the horse with the best combination of pace ability and tactical range for this distance.

High Leverage (POST 5) at 4-1 under Jose Lezcano for Jose Francisco D'Angelo gets a comfortable inside draw and Lezcano's expertise at the Aqueduct turf course is a meaningful advantage. A 4-1 morning line for Lezcano on an inside draw in a maiden turf route is worth taking seriously.

Nowucme Nowudont (POST 9) at 5-1 for Michael Maker and Jamie Rodriguez is a major barn-rider angle. Maker is among the most successful turf conditioners in the country at the maiden level, and Rodriguez aboard a Maker turf maiden at 5-1 in a nine-horse field is a live overlay.

Secondary Choices

Tuning In (POST 2) at 6-1 under J.J. Castellano for Harold James Bond draws the number two post and gets a Hall of Fame rider at a 6-1 price. Bond is an experienced NYRA conditioner and Castellano does not take maiden mounts without genuine confidence. Ohonte's Own (POST 4) at 8-1 for Thomas Morley and Ricardo Santana Jr. is an interesting second choice — Santana has been effective in maiden turf routes this spring. Mo Curls (POST 7) at 6-1 for Rudy Rodriguez and Ruben Silvera rounds out the secondary choices at a competitive price.

Longshots

Classic Commander (POST 1) at 8-1 for Ilkay Kantarmaci and Christopher Elliott gets the rail and could be involved on pace in a nine-horse field. Sicilian Dancer (POST 3) at 12-1 for Michelle Nevin and Luis R. Rivera Jr. and Pilot Knob (POST 8) at 12-1 for Bruce Brown and Kendrick Carmouche are double-digit prices with limited realistic chance at winning but can be used minimally in trifecta structures at a value price. Carmouche on Pilot Knob (POST 8) at 12-1 is the one longshot worth a small exotics investment — Carmouche is rarely aboard a total longshot without some trainer belief in the horse's readiness.

Selections

Win: Nowucme Nowudont (POST 9) Place: High Leverage (POST 5) Show: Homewood Hustle (POST 6)

Betting Strategy: The Maker-Rodriguez angle on Nowucme Nowudont (POST 9) at 5-1 is the value bet of this race. Key Nowucme Nowudont (POST 9) over Homewood Hustle (POST 6) and High Leverage (POST 5) in exactas, and add Tuning In (POST 2) in trifectas for breadth of coverage.

RACE 7 — Post (4:21) — 1540f | D | A | Alw 77000n1x | BUN | Purse $77,000

Males, non-winners of a race other than maiden, claiming, or starter, going one mile and seventy yards on the main track. Eight horses with Fireballin (POST 8) as the morning line favorite at 2-1 for Michael Maker.

Race 7

Pace Analysis

Fireballin (POST 8) is expected to be the primary early pace factor from the outside post — unusual for a favorite in a route but Maker horses often set or press the pace in these spots. Mozambique (POST 2) and Leo's Reward (POST 3) should both press for position early. Kenny Be (POST 4) at 3-1 for David Duggan and Ricardo Santana Jr. figures to sit a striking position from mid-pack. The pace should be solid with Fireballin (POST 8) likely controlling fractions, and a stalker with a sustained run in the final quarter is well-positioned to win.

Key Contenders

Fireballin (POST 8) at 2-1 for Michael Maker and Manuel Franco is the dominant morning line choice. Maker's first allowance runners routinely win at a strong clip, and Fireballin (POST 8) with Franco from the outside post of an eight-horse field is formidable. Franco will have plenty of room to position from post eight and can dictate his own pace into the first turn. Respect the price.

Kenny Be (POST 4) at 3-1 for David Duggan and Ricardo Santana Jr. sits at the perfect morning line price to consider as the top alternative. Duggan is a sharp conditioner who places horses well, and Kenny Be (POST 4) at 3-1 with Santana Jr. in the irons figures to get a patient, ground-saving trip from mid-pack. This is the value play to beat the favorite.

Secondary Choices

Leo's Reward (POST 3) at 4-1 for David Donk and Jamie Rodriguez is a class-forward entry. Donk consistently sends competitive horses into the first allowance condition, and Rodriguez is a reliable pilot at this level. Mozambique (POST 2) at 4-1 for Rudy Rodriguez and Ruben Silvera rounds out the secondary tier — matching morning line odds with Leo's Reward (POST 3) means one of these two is likely to be an overlay at post time.

Longshots

Guilty (POST 7) at 8-1 for Bruce Levine and Kendrick Carmouche is the interesting price horse in this race. Levine is a shrewd NYRA conditioner who has placed horses correctly in allowance spots before, and CARMOUCHE on a Levine horse at 8-1 merits inclusion in trifecta and superfecta tickets. Ducky Medwick (POST 6) at 12-1 for Chad Summers and Dylan Davis is a longer shot than his stable would suggest. Tiote (POST 1) at 12-1 for Dana Saul and Jose Baez draws the rail but faces class questions. Solo Dancing (POST 5) at 20-1 for Ralph D'Alessandro and Christopher Elliott is a genuine throwout at this price in this field.

Selections

Win: Fireballin (POST 8) Place: Kenny Be (POST 4) Show: Leo's Reward (POST 3)

Betting Strategy: Fireballin (POST 8) at 2-1 is the kind of Maker-Franco combination that warrants a win bet despite the price. Key Fireballin (POST 8) over Kenny Be (POST 4) and Leo's Reward (POST 3) in exactas. In trifectas, add Guilty (POST 7) as the value closer beneath the top two. The Carmouche-on-a-Levine-horse angle at 8-1 makes Guilty (POST 7) a compelling trifecta piece.

RACE 8 — Post (4:53) — 1760f | T | AO | OClm 75000n2x | CUN | Purse $86,000

Optional claiming for $75,000, non-winners of three races other than maiden, claiming, or starter, going one mile on the inner turf. Males, three-year-olds and up. Sixteen horses — a massive field on the inner turf that will require significant traffic management. Intellect (POST 5) is listed at 0-1 on the morning line, an apparent error or placeholder that likely reflects 1-5 or heavy odds-on favoritism. Bramito (POST 13) at 2-1 is listed as the next shortest price.

Race 8

Pace Analysis

Sixteen horses on the inner turf at one mile is among the most chaotic pace scenarios in everyday racing. Traffic trouble is almost guaranteed for any horse that breaks slowly or gets shuffled back. The premium in a field this size on firm turf goes to horses with early positional speed that can secure a clean spot on the rail or in a good stalking position within the first three furlongs. Bramito (POST 13) at 2-1 for Steve Schauer is the clear pace-setters' rival, while Intellect (POST 5) under Manuel Franco for Chad Brown from post five has an ideal draw to rate in the first flight and move when asked.

Key Contenders

Intellect (POST 5) for Chad Brown and Manuel Franco is the morning line standout. Post five in a sixteen-horse turf mile is near-ideal positioning — inside enough to save ground but not so tight that the horse gets pinched on the first turn. Brown's ability to produce horses at peak condition for optional claiming turf routes at NYRA is well-documented, and with Franco in the irons, Intellect (POST 5) figures to be the one to beat regardless of the morning line notation.

Bramito (POST 13) at 2-1 for Steven Schauer and Kendrick Carmouche draws the concern of a wide outside post in a sixteen-horse field, but a 2-1 morning line reflects genuine class and form. Carmouche is one of the best turf riders in the colony and will find a way to get Bramito (POST 13) into position. His ability to rate a horse and produce a late kick on firm turf is a genuine asset. This is the race's primary challenge to the favorite.

Waitlist (POST 14) at 4-1 for Linda Rice and Ruben Silvera is a Rice turf horse going outside post in a large field — but Rice's track record in these conditions and Silvera's improving form make Waitlist (POST 14) a legitimate exacta partner.

Secondary Choices

Exact Estimate (POST 7) at 8-1 for Brad Cox and J.J. Castellano is the value angle in this race. Cox is a championship-level trainer and Exact Estimate (POST 7) with Castellano at 8-1 in a field this competitive is a significant overlay. Castellano rarely takes a mount in an optional claiming turf race at NYRA without a horse he believes can run into the exacta at minimum.

Garamond (POST 6) at 12-1 for Chad Brown and Dylan Davis is the barn's second entry — in a large-field turf race, Brown's second string still has talent. Pass The Hat (POST 3) at 6-1 for William Mott and Sahin Civaci is another established-barn entry at a fair price. Mott's turf horses are consistently well-prepared. Dr. Kraft (POST 10) at 6-1 for Ilkay Kantarmaci with a rider to be announced adds uncertainty but the morning line is competitive.

Longshots

Ranger Battalion (POST 11) at 6-1 for Linda Rice and Jose Lezcano gives Rice-Lezcano another opportunity on the turf, and Rice with two horses in this race again signals confidence. Mayday Malone (POST 9) at 10-1 for Miguel Clement and Jamie Rodriguez is a usable trifecta piece at a double-digit price — Clement is sharp on turf. Agate Road (POST 1) at 12-1 for Todd Pletcher and Carmouche gets the rail — in a sixteen-horse turf mile, the rail can be a significant positive for a horse that breaks cleanly, though 12-1 suggests form questions. Otago (POST 2) at 15-1 for Kelsey Danner is a throwout for win purposes. Treaty Obligation (POST 12) at 12-1 and Castle Chaos (POST 16) at 12-1 both carry rider TBA designations that are concerning. Big Blue Line (POST 4) at 30-1 and I'm A Gambler (POST 8) at 30-1 are throwouts. Celestial Glaze (POST 15) at 8-1 with rider TBA is another that loses appeal without a confirmed jockey.

Selections

Win: Intellect (POST 5) Place: Bramito (POST 13) Show: Exact Estimate (POST 7)

Betting Strategy: Sixteen horses in a turf mile creates enormous exotic opportunities. Key Intellect (POST 5) over Bramito (POST 13), Waitlist (POST 14), and Exact Estimate (POST 7) in exactas. A trifecta structure using Intellect (POST 5) on top with Bramito (POST 13) and Exact Estimate (POST 7) in the second slot and a spread of Pass The Hat (POST 3), Garamond (POST 6), Ranger Battalion (POST 11), and Waitlist (POST 14) in the third slot gives excellent coverage. The 2-1/8-1 exacta of Intellect (POST 5) over Exact Estimate (POST 7) could pay handsomely if it lands.

RACE 9 — Post (5:25) — 1540f | D | S | Md Sp Wt | BUN | Purse $75,000

Maiden special weight for three-year-olds and up, males, going one mile and seventy yards on the main track. Nine horses with Irish Goodbye (POST 8) at 2-1 for Brad Cox as the morning line favorite.

Race 9

Pace Analysis

Bakuto (POST 1) at 4-1 under Ricardo Santana Jr. for Horacio De Paz gets the rail in a nine-horse maiden sprint — well, a route at one mile and seventy yards — and could be on or near the pace. Max Money (POST 3) at 3-1 under Dylan Davis for Michael Maker is likely to press or stalk from inside. Irish Goodbye (POST 8) under Manuel Franco for Brad Cox will settle behind early fractions and will need a clear run from post eight as the pace develops. With nine horses, the inside posts have an advantage and the pace should be honest enough for a closer to arrive if the leaders go too fast.

Key Contenders

Irish Goodbye (POST 8) at 2-1 for Brad Cox and Manuel Franco is the clear class of the field based on connections alone. Cox and Franco is a proven combination at NYRA, and Irish Goodbye (POST 8) is the kind of well-bred maiden that Cox points toward a spot like this when ready to win. The 2-1 morning line in a nine-horse maiden field reflects genuine confidence from the market.

Max Money (POST 3) at 3-1 for Michael Maker and Dylan Davis is the natural alternative. Maker is outstanding with maiden runners on dirt, and Max Money (POST 3) from post three with Davis aboard gets a favorable inside draw. In a head-to-head matchup of Cox vs. Maker in a maiden dirt route, either horse can win and the 3-1 price on Max Money (POST 3) is better value than the 2-1 on the favorite.

Bakuto (POST 1) at 4-1 for Horacio De Paz and Ricardo Santana Jr. gets the rail and Santana Jr. aboard a De Paz maiden at 4-1 is a combination that has won these races before. The rail in a nine-horse maiden route is a meaningful advantage if Bakuto (POST 1) has the tactical speed to use it.

Secondary Choices

Volatile Situation (POST 2) at 8-1 for Todd Pletcher and Kendrick Carmouche is an interesting price angle. Pletcher-Carmouche at 8-1 in a maiden dirt route at NYRA with an inside draw is a combination that projects to hit the board regularly. Volatile Situation (POST 2) warrants serious exotics consideration at that price. Teuflesdale (POST 7) at 10-1 for Kevin Bond and Jose Lezcano gives Lezcano an interesting mount at a double-digit price — Bond's maiden runners on dirt occasionally spring a surprise, and Lezcano aboard at any price warrants a trifecta inclusion.

Longshots

Lord King (POST 6) at 8-1 for Eduardo Jones and Reylu Gutierrez is the same morning line as Volatile Situation (POST 2) but with less compelling connections. Nordic Fyre (POST 9) at 12-1 for Harold James Bond and Ruben Silvera is a far outside post in a nine-horse field — manageable but Silvera will need a perfect break. George's Gold (POST 5) at 12-1 for Horacio De Paz and Jamie Rodriguez gives De Paz a second horse in this race, which is a mild positive signal, but 12-1 reflects appropriate skepticism. Portadown Lad (POST 4) at 30-1 for James Ferraro and Christopher Elliott is a throwout at that price in maiden special weight company.

Selections

Win: Irish Goodbye (POST 8) Place: Max Money (POST 3) Show: Bakuto (POST 1)

Betting Strategy: With the top two favorites at 2-1 and 3-1, the value in this race is in the exacta. Irish Goodbye (POST 8) over Max Money (POST 3) will pay modestly but is the most likely outcome. The better play is to use Max Money (POST 3) over Irish Goodbye (POST 8) as a reversal at a slightly better price, and add Bakuto (POST 1) as the key trifecta piece underneath the top two. Volatile Situation (POST 2) at 8-1 under Pletcher-Carmouche is the exotic play of this race — include in all trifecta structures in the second or third slot.

Jockey Notes and Insights

Manuel Franco continues to be the dominant force in the NYRA jockey colony. With mounts in virtually every race on this card — including Cloudy Chance (POST 5) in Race 1, Sandtrap (POST 5) in Race 2, Filly Freedom (POST 5) in Race 3, Igniter (POST 4) in Race 4, Unmiztaken (POST 6) in Race 5, Homewood Hustle (POST 6) in Race 6, Fireballin (POST 8) in Race 7, Intellect (POST 5) in Race 8, and Irish Goodbye (POST 8) in Race 9 — Franco has an exceptional book today and is live on every single race. His win percentage at NYRA in 2026 has been among the best in the colony and he converts with major stables at an elite rate. When Franco is aboard a Chad Brown, Michael Maker, or Brad Cox horse in allowance and stakes company, his mounts must be respected regardless of price.

Jose Lezcano has the second-best book on the card, with mounts in multiple races for Linda Rice and other barns. Lezcano's knowledge of the Aqueduct surface — both dirt and turf — is unparalleled among current NYRA riders. He is particularly deadly in turf routes on the inner oval. His mounts today include Helen's Revenge (POST 3) in Race 1, Thiene (POST 3) in Race 2, Sarir (POST 3) in Race 3, High Leverage (POST 5) in Race 6, Ranger Battalion (POST 11) in Race 8, and Teuflesdale (POST 7) in Race 9.

Ricardo Santana Jr. is riding with confidence and purpose this spring at NYRA. His mounts include Pookie (POST 7) in Race 2, Fulmine (POST 3) in Race 4, Downtown Channel (POST 7) in Race 5, Ohonte's Own (POST 4) in Race 6, Kenny Be (POST 4) in Race 7, and Bakuto (POST 1) in Race 9. He is particularly sharp in turf routing and in stakes company.

Kendrick Carmouche is another pivotal rider today with strong mounts throughout the card. His assignments include Sunshine Lily (POST 2) in Race 1, Brunch With Amy (POST 8) in Race 2, Always Practical (POST 6) in Race 3, Cosmic Candy Girl (POST 9) in Race 5, Pilot Knob (POST 8) in Race 6, Guilty (POST 7) in Race 7, Agate Road (POST 1) and Bramito (POST 13) in Race 8, and Volatile Situation (POST 2) in Race 9. Note that Carmouche appears listed for two horses in Race 8 — riders in large fields can be reassigned and bettors should confirm closer to post.

J.J. Castellano takes three key mounts today: Solitude Dude (POST 1) in the Bay Shore feature in Race 4, Tuning In (POST 2) in Race 6, and Exact Estimate (POST 7) in Race 8. The Hall of Famer is selective and when he takes a mount at 6-1 or longer in an allowance spot, his presence alone upgrades the horse's chances considerably.

Jamie Rodriguez is exceptionally busy on this card, with mounts in nearly every race. He rides for multiple stables including Linda Rice, Fernando Abreu, and Horacio De Paz and has been consistent and reliable throughout the meet.

Trainer Notes and Insights

Chad Brown is the dominant force among trainers on today's card. He saddles Sandtrap (POST 5) and Scarlett's Halo (POST 2) in Race 2, Filly Freedom (POST 5) in Race 3, Intellect (POST 5) and Garamond (POST 6) in Race 8. Brown's barn operates at near-elite win percentages with first allowance starters on turf and in optional claiming routes. When Brown runs two horses in the same race, the shorter-priced entry is usually the primary weapon but the longer-priced barn mate frequently hits the board.

Linda Rice has multiple entries throughout the card including Helen's Revenge (POST 3) in Race 1, Thiene (POST 3) and Brunch With Amy (POST 8) in Race 2, Sarir (POST 3) and Always Practical (POST 6) in Race 3, Blue Note (POST 11) and Top Of The Table (POST 14) in Race 5, Ranger Battalion (POST 11) and Waitlist (POST 14) in Race 8. Rice is the queen of NYRA allowance racing and her multiple-entry approach signals genuine confidence in the competitive viability of her runners. When Rice runs two horses in a race, bettors should cover both in exotics.

Michael Maker has key mounts in Race 6 with Nowucme Nowudont (POST 9), Race 7 with Fireballin (POST 8), Race 8 with no direct entry but Nowucme Nowudont (POST 9) noted earlier, and Race 9 with Max Money (POST 3). Maker's maiden win percentage is consistently above-average at NYRA and his first allowance runners are often dangerous second-out performers.

Saffie Joseph Jr. brings Solitude Dude (POST 1) to the Bay Shore in Race 4 as the heavy favorite. Joseph has been one of the most consistently productive trainers in the country over the past several years and his stakes horses at NYRA are invariably well-prepared. The combination with Castellano in a stakes race is among the most formidable in American racing.

Brad Cox saddles Exact Estimate (POST 7) in Race 8 and Irish Goodbye (POST 8) in Race 9. Cox is a championship trainer whose horses regularly arrive at peak fitness at NYRA meets. His 8-1 morning line on Exact Estimate (POST 7) in Race 8 and 2-1 on Irish Goodbye (POST 8) in Race 9 reflect appropriate assessments of each horse's chances.

Richard Dutrow brings Romantic Dancer (POST 2) in Race 3 and Igniter (POST 4) to the Bay Shore in Race 4. Dutrow has been training actively and competitively during this NYRA meet, and Igniter (POST 4) at 2-1 in the Bay Shore is a serious win contender backed by a conditioner who knows the New York game well.

Horacio De Paz has multiple entries today including Heavenly Light (POST 1) and Downtown Channel (POST 7) and Full Pour (POST 12) across several races. His stable has been producing competitive horses at the NYRA meet and should not be underestimated in any race where his horses appear live on pace.

Best Wagering Strategies and Value Plays

The best win value on the entire card is Nowucme Nowudont (POST 9) at 5-1 in Race 6. The Michael Maker-Jamie Rodriguez combination on a turf maiden at the mile-and-three-sixteenths distance on the inner oval is a classic overlay situation. Maker excels at this level and this distance, and 5-1 in a nine-horse field is a legitimate value price for a horse that fits the conditions.

The single best wagering opportunity on the card is the Race 8 trifecta structure in the sixteen-horse optional claiming turf mile. Using Intellect (POST 5) on top, with Bramito (POST 13) and Exact Estimate (POST 7) in the second slot, and a spread of Pass The Hat (POST 3), Garamond (POST 6), Ranger Battalion (POST 11), and Waitlist (POST 14) in third at $1 each creates an affordable ticket with enormous potential payoff given the field size and odds distribution.

Race 5 is the prime exacta race for value. Downtown Channel (POST 7) at 3-1 over Cosmic Candy Girl (POST 9) at 2-1 should pay $12-16 depending on pool distribution in a fourteen-horse turf mile. Add Full Pour (POST 12) on top and underneath Downtown Channel (POST 7) for a reversal play.

For Pick 4 players, the best sequence runs through Races 6-9. The structure would be:

Race 6: Nowucme Nowudont (POST 9) with Homewood Hustle (POST 6) and High Leverage (POST 5) Race 7: Fireballin (POST 8) with Kenny Be (POST 4) Race 8: Intellect (POST 5) with Bramito (POST 13) and Exact Estimate (POST 7) Race 9: Irish Goodbye (POST 8) with Max Money (POST 3)

A 3x2x3x2 Pick 4 ticket using these horses gives eighteen combinations. If any race produces a surprise winner, the inclusion of secondary selections provides insurance without breaking the ticket budget.

The Pick 5 starting in Race 5 and running through Race 9 is a significant bankroll play on a card with this much talent and competitive depth. Using Downtown Channel (POST 7) and Cosmic Candy Girl (POST 9) in Race 5, Nowucme Nowudont (POST 9) in Race 6 single, Fireballin (POST 8) in Race 7 single, Intellect (POST 5) with Bramito (POST 13) in Race 8, and Irish Goodbye (POST 8) with Max Money (POST 3) in Race 9 creates a 2x1x1x2x2 structure of eight combinations at $1 each — a highly focused and affordable Pick 5 investment with legitimate carryover potential.

Avoid win betting on horses shorter than 3-2 on the entire card. The value proposition does not support chasing Sandtrap (POST 5) at even money in Race 2 or Solitude Dude (POST 1) at even money in Race 4 for straight win purposes. Instead, build them into multi-race exotic tickets where their likely victories power downstream legs.

The sleeper of the card is Volatile Situation (POST 2) at 8-1 in Race 9 under Todd Pletcher and Kendrick Carmouche. Inside post, elite connections, and a double-digit morning line in a nine-horse maiden field represent genuine overlay territory for a Pletcher horse getting Carmouche in a spot where the market has focused on Cox and Maker. A small win bet and inclusion in all trifectas and superfectas is the play.
