Canterbury Park Race Day Overview — June 4, 2026

Canterbury Park opens its Thursday evening card with seven races spanning both the main track and turf course. The program features a mix of claiming, optional claiming, allowance, and maiden races, with purses ranging from $10,000 in the bottom maiden claiming event up to $29,000 for the featured allowance turf sprint in Race 6. The card leans heavily toward the grass, with Races 2, 4, 6, and 7 all carded for the turf course. The main track sees action in Races 1, 3, and 5, along with the maiden event. Several of the Canterbury Park regulars are well-represented across the card, with trainers Tim Padilla, Jose Silva Jr., Robertson McLean, and the Bethke and Berndt barns all saddling multiple horses tonight.

The claiming ranks are competitive across the board, and the two co-favorites in Race 1 come from the same barn, which adds a strategic dimension to that opener. Race 6 stands out as the marquee event, a first-level allowance turf route offering the richest purse on the card and a full field of seven. The maiden race in Race 5, carded at the bottom of the claiming ladder at $7,500, features a short field of five and figures to be dominated by the heavy favorite. Trainer Manuel Ortiz Sr. has entries across multiple races, as does the Robertson McLean outfit. No major scratches have been reported at the time of this publication, and the card appears to be running as drawn.

Weather and Track Conditions — Canterbury Park, June 4, 2026

The Minneapolis-Shakopee area is experiencing partly cloudy skies with temperatures in the mid-60s Fahrenheit heading into the evening card. Winds are light out of the southwest at approximately 8 to 12 miles per hour, which should have minimal effect on race times. No significant precipitation is anticipated during racing hours, though there is a slight chance of a passing shower late in the evening that warrants monitoring. The main track at Canterbury Park is listed as fast, and officials expect it to remain fast throughout the card barring any unexpected weather.

The turf course is rated firm, which is ideal for the four grass races on the program. A firm Bermuda turf course at Canterbury typically favors horses that can rate comfortably off a contested pace and produce a strong late kick. With no rain in the recent forecast for the Shakopee area, the turf is expected to hold its condition throughout the evening. Bettors can plan their turf race approaches around a firm, true course that should play fairly to all running styles.

Track Bias and Post Position Analysis

Canterbury Park's main dirt track has historically shown a modest inside speed bias in sprints, particularly in the early weeks of the summer meet when the rail is freshest. On a fast track with standard maintenance, horses that can secure the rail or the first flight off the break in short fields tend to carry an advantage. In routes on the main track, the bias tends to neutralize slightly, favoring class and stamina over pure position. For tonight's dirt races — Race 1 at six and a half furlongs and Race 3 at a mile and three-sixteenths on the dirt — post position one and two carry some tactical advantage, particularly for horses with natural speed.

On the Canterbury turf course, the rail has historically been advantageous when the course is firm, as the inside ground remains truest and fastest. The one-mile turf oval at Canterbury features a chute start for most turf routes, and horses breaking from posts one through three in turf routes have a documented statistical advantage at this venue. In turf sprints at six and a half furlongs, the benefit of the inside post is somewhat offset by the sharper first turn, but horses that can settle efficiently in the first three furlongs from any post remain competitive. For tonight's turf card, posts one through three in the route races and posts one through four in the sprints are the most desirable positions based on recent Canterbury bias patterns.

RACE 1 — Post 6:10 — 1320f | D | C | Clm 15000b | BUN | Purse $14,500

Pace Analysis

This six and a half furlong maiden/open claiming sprint on the main track features two co-favorites and a dual-barn entry from the Robertson McLean stable. CREW DRAGON (1) and R N R AUDIBLE (3) share the morning line favoritism at 2-1, creating an interesting pace dynamic. CREW DRAGON (1) figures to be the most likely pace-setter from the one-hole, and any early speed from SUPERSTAR SWANK (5) could create a contested pace scenario. R N R AUDIBLE (3) has the look of a presser or close stalker depending on how aggressively CREW DRAGON (1) is ridden early. MONGOLIAN CHAMP (4) and BAVARIA ROAD (2) both profile as middle-to-late movers who could benefit if the pace gets hot up front.

Key Contenders

CREW DRAGON (1), trained by Robertson McLean and ridden by J. Riquelme, draws the favorable inside post and is likely to be forwardly placed from the break. McLean has been one of the more consistent trainers at Canterbury this summer, and the rail in a six and a half furlong dirt sprint is a genuine asset. The co-favorite morning line price reflects strong overall support, and Riquelme has been among the more active riders on the Canterbury colony this meet.

R N R AUDIBLE (3), the other co-favorite from the Tim Padilla barn, is the logical alternative. Padilla also saddles MONGOLIAN CHAMP (4) in this spot, giving him a powerful two-pronged attack. R N R AUDIBLE (3) is likely to get a tactical trip in the three-hole with Constantino up, and the horse's class at this level makes it a genuine contender to go wire-to-wire or come charging in the final furlong.

Secondary Choices

MONGOLIAN CHAMP (4), the second Padilla entry, goes at 4-1 on the morning line. Victor Lara takes the mount, and with stablemate R N R AUDIBLE (3) likely to draw some attention at even odds, MONGOLIAN CHAMP (4) offers a touch of value if the pace scenario sets up for a closer. Padilla winning with both entries is not out of the question given the depth of the barn's current form.

SUPERSTAR SWANK (5), the second Robertson McLean entry at 4-1, goes with Manuel Americano. This one figures to press CREW DRAGON (1) early or track just off the leader, and a contested pace between the two McLean horses is a real possibility. If the pace gets honest, SUPERSTAR SWANK (5) could tire in the stretch, but if CREW DRAGON (1) gets a soft lead, the result could favor the stablemate chase.

Longshots

BAVARIA ROAD (2) goes at 6-1 with Eduardo Gallardo up for trainer Coty Rosin. Rosin is a competent Canterbury conditioner, and Gallardo is one of the colony's leading riders. This one is the least talked about horse in the field but should not be completely dismissed if it sneaks into a forward position early and gets a clear trip. At 6-1, there is modest value if pace troubles develop ahead of it.

Selections

Win: CREW DRAGON (1) Place: R N R AUDIBLE (3) Show: MONGOLIAN CHAMP (4)

Betting Strategy: With two co-favorites from different barns sharing the race, exacta boxing CREW DRAGON (1) and R N R AUDIBLE (3) is the most logical approach for conservative players. Adding MONGOLIAN CHAMP (4) to trifecta tickets using the top two as your key horses makes sense given the Padilla barn's strength tonight. Avoid the win pool entirely at even money — focus your capital on exotics.

RACE 2 — Post 6:40 — 1760f | T | AO | OClm 12500n1x | BUM | Purse $24,000

Pace Analysis

This is an optional claiming mile on the turf for older fillies and mares that have not won one allowance race other than maiden, claiming, or starter. The five-horse field features two horses tied at 2-1 on the morning line — LOW KEY (3) from the Robertson McLean barn and DUTTON STREET GIRL (5) from the Jose Silva Jr. operation. Both are likely pace-pressers or stalkers on the turf. REBEL GAL (1) from the Woolley barn could show early speed to set the table. DONTMESSWITHTESS (2) and CHAMAVILLE (4) both offer fair value at 4-1 in what shapes up as a small but competitive field.

The pace should be modest early, as none of these mares figures to blast to a big lead on firm turf going a mile. The race will likely be set up by whoever establishes themselves two to three lengths off the lead by the half-mile marker, with a genuine stretch duel expected in the final furlong.

Key Contenders

LOW KEY (3), the Robertson McLean-trained co-favorite, draws the three-hole on the turf and has J. Riquelme back in the irons. McLean has developed a strong grass operation at Canterbury, and LOW KEY (3) appears well-spotted in this optional claiming mile. The firm turf should suit this type, and the three-post on the one-turn turf mile at Canterbury is workable.

DUTTON STREET GIRL (5), trained by Jose Silva Jr. and ridden by Manuel Americano, shares the 2-1 morning line. Silva has had horses running well on the Canterbury turf this meet, and Americano has proven to be one of the track's most effective grass riders. Closing from the outside post in a five-horse field is manageable, and this mare's recent form suggests she is fit and ready.

Secondary Choices

DONTMESSWITHTESS (2) sits at 4-1 on the morning line with Fausto Henrique Da Silva aboard for trainer Manuel Ortiz Sr. The two-post on the turf mile is favorable, and Da Silva is capable of rating this one off a modest pace before asking for run. Ortiz has been quietly placing horses at Canterbury this meet and this could be a sneaky live longshot with a wider price on the board.

CHAMAVILLE (4), trained by Martin Escobar and piloted by Eduardo Gallardo, also goes at 4-1. Escobar is a sharp trainer when he finds the right spot, and CHAMAVILLE (4) in the four-hole on a firm turf mile with a top-five rider is a legitimate contender. The horse's campaign profile fits this spot.

Longshots

REBEL GAL (1) goes at 5-1 with Alonso Quinonez for trainer Bennie Woolley Jr. Woolley is a capable Canterbury trainer and Quinonez has been effective at the meet. REBEL GAL (1) from the rail on turf could be a pace factor, and at 5-1, the price makes it a fair inclusion in wider exotics. This one figures to be on or near the lead early.

Selections

Win: LOW KEY (3) Place: DUTTON STREET GIRL (5) Show: CHAMAVILLE (4)

Betting Strategy: The co-favorite situation here is ripe for exacta play. Using LOW KEY (3) over DUTTON STREET GIRL (5) as a straight exacta makes sense, with a saver on the reverse. The $1 trifecta using LOW KEY (3) and DUTTON STREET GIRL (5) over the field offers excellent value given the five-horse field size. At 4-1, CHAMAVILLE (4) with Gallardo is worth a small win bet as a value play.

RACE 3 — Post 7:10 — 1760f | D | CO | OClm 20000 | BUN | Purse $15,500

Pace Analysis

This optional claiming route at a mile and three-sixteenths on the main track is the longest dirt race on the card and features a dual barn entry from the Tranquilino stable. MR. WHO (3) goes as the morning line favorite at 1-1 from the Jose Silva Jr. barn, while COBBLESTONE BRIDGE (1) and SCOTTISH STORM (2) represent a formidable one-two punch from the Santiago Tranquilino operation. The pace in a route on the Canterbury main track at this condition tends to be moderately honest, and the rail advantage is real going this far. PRINCE RAMA (4) and SIR EXTON (5) round out the field and offer some middle-of-the-pack opposition.

With MR. WHO (3) as the morning line favorite and likely to be heavily bet below that number on the board, pace could get contentious early if COBBLESTONE BRIDGE (1) establishes itself on the front end. SCOTTISH STORM (2) at 8-1 is the longer-priced Tranquilino entry and could loom as a major price play.

Key Contenders

MR. WHO (3), trained by Jose Silva Jr. and ridden by Manuel Americano, is the dominant morning line choice at even money. In routes on the Canterbury main track, Americano has shown the ability to rate horses efficiently off a stalking trip. If MR. WHO (3) has the class edge at this level, the even money price will be justified, though the field will likely push this horse lower on the toteboard.

COBBLESTONE BRIDGE (1), the Tranquilino co-entry with Gallardo up, draws the favorable inside rail post. In a mile and three-sixteenths dirt route at Canterbury, the one-post is arguably the most advantageous draw on the card. Gallardo on a horse with a capable trainer and the rail in a longer route is a very dangerous combination.

Secondary Choices

PRINCE RAMA (4), trained by Tony Rengstorf and ridden by Alonso Quinonez, goes at 3-1. Rengstorf is a methodical Canterbury trainer who tends to target horses in spots where they can run to their ability. PRINCE RAMA (4) from the four-post in a route is workable, and Quinonez will likely look to secure a stalking position behind any early pace. At 3-1, this is the main value play if MR. WHO (3) disappoints.

Longshots

SCOTTISH STORM (2), the second Tranquilino entry, goes at 8-1 with Victor Lara aboard. If the stable's primary attention is on COBBLESTONE BRIDGE (1), SCOTTISH STORM (2) could surprise at a big price. The two-post is useful in a route, and Lara has ridden competently in Canterbury routes this meet. A trifecta saver using SCOTTISH STORM (2) under the top two makes sense at 8-1.

SIR EXTON (5), trained by Robert Cline and ridden by Kelsi Harr, goes at 4-1 from the outside post. Cline has put together some sharp performances at Canterbury this meet, and Harr is an underrated rider who often runs horses above expectations. The five-post in a nine-furlong-plus route is a slight disadvantage, but if SIR EXTON (5) can establish early position on the first turn, it remains a factor. Use underneath in trifectas.

Selections

Win: MR. WHO (3) Place: COBBLESTONE BRIDGE (1) Show: PRINCE RAMA (4)

Betting Strategy: The even money on MR. WHO (3) is too short to bet to win with confidence given the Tranquilino barn's two-pronged attack. Structuring trifecta tickets with MR. WHO (3) and COBBLESTONE BRIDGE (1) on top, with PRINCE RAMA (4) and SCOTTISH STORM (2) in third, provides solid coverage. A small exacta on COBBLESTONE BRIDGE (1) over MR. WHO (3) as a reversal is worth the investment given the rail advantage.

RACE 4 — Post 7:40 — 1760f | T | CO | OClm 7500 | BUN | Purse $12,000

Pace Analysis

This is the lowest-level optional claiming turf mile on the card at $7,500 and features a full field of six. HOT LEGS ROMOLO (2) and MR FABRICATOR (3) are co-favorites at 2-1. The Jose Silva Jr. barn runs two horses in this event — MR FABRICATOR (3) and SOCAL RED (6) — creating a split stable scenario. LOGICAL MYTH (1) from the Woolley barn, HOT LEGS ROMOLO (2) from Edgar Espinoza, LORING PARK (4) from Troy Bethke, and HOLIDAY FANTASY (5) from Tim Padilla complete the field.

The pace should be moderate on the firm turf, with LOGICAL MYTH (1) and HOT LEGS ROMOLO (2) both capable of pressing early. MR FABRICATOR (3) and SOCAL RED (6) figure to stalk or come from off the pace. The mile distance on the Canterbury turf should suit the more professional turf runners in this field.

Key Contenders

HOT LEGS ROMOLO (2), trained by Edgar Espinoza and ridden by Constantino Roman, is the primary co-favorite and projects as one of the pace-setters. Espinoza has been active at Canterbury this meet and Roman has been consistent in the irons. From the two-post on the turf, this horse can secure a forward position without any issues.

MR FABRICATOR (3), trained by Jose Silva Jr. and ridden by Manuel Americano, is the other co-favorite. Silva's turf operation has been productive and Americano's ability on grass is well-documented at Canterbury. The three-post is workable on the turf, and if MR FABRICATOR (3) can rate just off the early pace, it has the pedigree and class to close.

Secondary Choices

LOGICAL MYTH (1), trained by Bennie Woolley Jr. and ridden by Alonso Quinonez, goes at 4-1 from the rail. In a turf mile, the inside post can be a major advantage, and Quinonez is capable of rating this one off the front before making a run. LOGICAL MYTH (1) represents fair value in the secondary choice range and is a must-use in all exotic tickets.

SOCAL RED (6), the second Silva entry with Da Silva in the irons, goes at 4-1. The six-post in a turf mile at Canterbury is a slight disadvantage from an early positioning standpoint, but if the pace gets honest up front, SOCAL RED (6) could sweep past rivals in the stretch. Da Silva has been riding with confidence this meet.

Longshots

HOLIDAY FANTASY (5), from the Padilla barn with Victor Lara up, goes at 8-1. Padilla has multiple horses on the card tonight and is running his operation at full throttle. HOLIDAY FANTASY (5) at 8-1 with a capable rider on the firm turf is worth a trifecta look underneath.

LORING PARK (4), trained by Troy Bethke and ridden by Eduardo Gallardo, is the longest shot on the board at 10-1. Bethke is not as active as some of the other trainers on the card, and the 10-1 morning line reflects the horse's modest profile at this condition. However, Gallardo at 10-1 is not something to entirely dismiss — he is capable of stealing a race from anywhere on the board.

Selections

Win: HOT LEGS ROMOLO (2) Place: MR FABRICATOR (3) Show: LOGICAL MYTH (1)

Betting Strategy: The Silva barn's two-horse entry (MR FABRICATOR (3) and SOCAL RED (6)) complicates matters for bettors. Focus trifecta action on HOT LEGS ROMOLO (2) and MR FABRICATOR (3) on top with LOGICAL MYTH (1) and SOCAL RED (6) in the third slot. LOGICAL MYTH (1) at 4-1 from the rail is worth a straight win bet as a value play in an otherwise chalky race.

RACE 5 — Post 8:10 — 1210f | D | M | Md 7500 | GON | Purse $10,000

Pace Analysis

This five and a half furlong maiden claiming event on the main track features the shortest field of the night at five horses. AINT BEHAVIN (5), trained by Jose Silva Jr. and ridden by Manuel Americano, goes as the dominant morning line favorite at 1-1. NO BILLS CAMPAIGN (3), trained by Manuel Ortiz Sr., is the second choice at 2-1. The pace in a maiden sprint at this level will likely be set by whoever breaks cleanest, and the short field means minimal traffic headaches for closers or pressers alike.

Key Contenders

AINT BEHAVIN (5), the heavy favorite, is trained by one of the meet's most productive barns. At even money, this horse is expected to dominate, and Americano's experience riding winners at Canterbury makes this connection the clear top choice. The five-post in a short sprint field does require some traffic navigation, but with only five horses, there is plenty of room to work.

NO BILLS CAMPAIGN (3), trained by Manuel Ortiz Sr. and ridden by Constantino Roman, is the logical pace threat. From the three-post, this one could press or stalk AINT BEHAVIN (5) and represents the most likely upset candidate in the field. Ortiz has been improving his win percentage at Canterbury and this horse deserves respect.

Secondary Choices

SMILE SMILE SMILE (2), trained by Bennie Woolley Jr. and ridden by Sachin Parris, goes at 4-1. Woolley has runners throughout the card tonight and SMILE SMILE SMILE (2) could sneak onto the board at a fair price. The two-post is useful in a sprint, and Parris is a developing rider who occasionally upsets the odds.

Longshots

RULY'S STREET (1), trained by Jose Silva Jr. and ridden by Fausto Da Silva, goes at 8-1. Silva running two horses in this maiden event — RULY'S STREET (1) and AINT BEHAVIN (5) — gives the barn excellent coverage. If AINT BEHAVIN (5) gets into trouble early, RULY'S STREET (1) from the rail with a competent rider could move up to a placing.

TWENTYTHREEONBLACK (4), trained by Tena Birdwell and ridden by Victor Lara, goes at 8-1. Birdwell is a less active Canterbury trainer and this horse is at a long price for a reason. However, Lara has ridden competently throughout the meet and could coax a better performance than the morning line suggests.

Selections

Win: AINT BEHAVIN (5) Place: NO BILLS CAMPAIGN (3) Show: SMILE SMILE SMILE (2)

Betting Strategy: AINT BEHAVIN (5) at even money is not worth a straight win bet. The play here is the exacta using AINT BEHAVIN (5) over NO BILLS CAMPAIGN (3) and SMILE SMILE SMILE (2), which offers better value than the win pool. A $2 exacta using the favorite over the field gives modest but worthwhile return if the top selection runs to its morning line form.

RACE 6 — Post 8:40 — 1650f | T | A | Alw 29000n1x | BUM | Purse $29,000

Pace Analysis

The featured race of the evening is a first-level allowance turf sprint at six and a half furlongs for fillies and mares. BABY DOLL PEACH (3) goes as the morning line favorite at 2-1 from the Joel Berndt barn. MARIAROSADELASERDA (2), KAIA'S CHOICE (4), and HEAVENLY CAPTIVE (6) all go at 4-1, creating a wide-open exotics race. BLUES CROSS (7) is at 5-1, NANCY'S SHAWL (1) at 6-1, and CHARGING DARLING (5) at a generous 12-1.

The pace in a first-level allowance turf sprint should be honest, as several of these mares figure to show speed early. NANCY'S SHAWL (1) from the rail could establish position on the lead, with BABY DOLL PEACH (3) and HEAVENLY CAPTIVE (6) likely to press. The stretch run at Canterbury's turf course favors horses that can rate off a fast pace and produce a sustained late run.

Key Contenders

BABY DOLL PEACH (3), trained by Joel Berndt and ridden by Eduardo Gallardo, is the morning line top choice. Berndt has saddled multiple winners at Canterbury this summer and Gallardo is one of the most accomplished riders on the circuit. In a six and a half furlong turf sprint for mares at the allowance level, class and pace positioning are paramount, and this combination ticks both boxes. The three-post is favorable in a seven-horse field on the turf.

HEAVENLY CAPTIVE (6), trained by Robertson McLean and ridden by Manuel Americano, goes at 4-1. McLean has had a strong turf presence at Canterbury this meet and HEAVENLY CAPTIVE (6) with Americano in a first-level allowance turf sprint is a legitimate win contender. The six-post requires some early maneuvering, but Americano is aggressive enough off the gate to find a workable trip.

Secondary Choices

KAIA'S CHOICE (4), the second Berndt entry with Luis Fuentes up, goes at 4-1. The dual-barn entry situation means Berndt's camp has significant coverage in this race. KAIA'S CHOICE (4) from the four-hole with Fuentes is a fair stalker type that could loom with a run in the final turn. The Berndt barn picking up a third jockey (Fuentes alongside Gallardo) suggests confidence in both horses.

MARIAROSADELASERDA (2), trained by Troy Bethke and ridden by J. Riquelme, also goes at 4-1. The two-post on the turf sprint is extremely favorable, and Bethke has had solid results placing mares in turf routes this summer. Riquelme in the irons from a perfect post in a featured allowance event is a compelling angle.

Longshots

BLUES CROSS (7), trained by Martin Escobar and ridden by Victor Lara, goes at 5-1 from the outside post. In a seven-horse turf sprint, the outside post requires traffic luck, but BLUES CROSS (7) could save ground if it settles early. At 5-1, this is worth a place/show ticket and inclusion in deeper trifecta and superfecta structures.

NANCY'S SHAWL (1), trained by Tim Padilla and ridden by Constantino Roman, goes at 6-1 from the rail. In a turf sprint from the inside post, Padilla will need Roman to avoid getting bottled up on the first turn. If NANCY'S SHAWL (1) can clear the traffic and establish a forward position early, the 6-1 morning line represents solid value.

CHARGING DARLING (5), trained by Troy Bethke and ridden by Kelsi Harr, is the 12-1 outsider. Bethke has two horses in this race, and CHARGING DARLING (5) figures to be the stable's secondary choice. At 12-1, the horse is a longshot inclusion in superfecta bottoms only.

Selections

Win: BABY DOLL PEACH (3) Place: HEAVENLY CAPTIVE (6) Show: MARIAROSADELASERDA (2)

Betting Strategy: Race 6 is the best exotic race on the card. The wide-open 4-1 threesome creates excellent trifecta and superfecta value. A $1 trifecta key using BABY DOLL PEACH (3) on top, with HEAVENLY CAPTIVE (6), MARIAROSADELASERDA (2), KAIA'S CHOICE (4), and BLUES CROSS (7) alternating in the second and third slots, provides broad coverage. NANCY'S SHAWL (1) at 6-1 from the rail in a sprint is also worthy of late inclusion in trifecta bottoms. The superfecta at Canterbury's featured allowance level can pay handsomely — invest accordingly.

RACE 7 — Post 9:10 — 1650f | T | C | Clm 15000b | BUN | Purse $14,000

Pace Analysis

The card closes with a claiming turf sprint at six and a half furlongs with a solid field of seven. FLYING MARTINI (7), trained by Coty Rosin and ridden by Eduardo Gallardo, is the morning line favorite at 2-1 from the outside post. PAT CAN'T COUNT (4), trained by Manuel Ortiz Sr. with J. Riquelme up, goes at 3-1. OUTLAW RUN (2) and MATT'S LUCK (5) are at 4-1, LATIN FORCE (3) is at 5-1, MORE MONEY MO (6) is at 12-1, and ARJUN FOR KARZ (1) is the longshot at 15-1.

The pace will be key here. With multiple horses capable of pressuring early in a turf sprint, a hot pace could set up the closers. FLYING MARTINI (7) from the outside post will need to work for position, and Gallardo's ability to find the running lane in a stretch-drive situation is critical. PAT CAN'T COUNT (4) figures to be a stalker type that benefits from a genuine early pace.

Key Contenders

FLYING MARTINI (7), trained by Coty Rosin and ridden by Eduardo Gallardo, is the morning line choice despite the outside post. Rosin has been one of the more underrated trainers at Canterbury this meet, and FLYING MARTINI (7) closing from the outside in a six and a half furlong turf sprint with Gallardo is the highest-profile connection in the race. Gallardo's late-race awareness is a major asset in sprint finales.

PAT CAN'T COUNT (4), trained by Manuel Ortiz Sr. and ridden by J. Riquelme, goes at 3-1 from the middle of the pack. The four-post is ideal in a seven-horse turf sprint, and Riquelme can settle this one into a nice spot behind the early pace before asking. Ortiz has been placing horses well in closing sprints this meet, and this is a live alternative to the favorite.

Secondary Choices

OUTLAW RUN (2), trained by Robert Cline and ridden by Kelsi Harr, goes at 4-1. The two-post on the turf sprint is favorable, and Cline has produced a couple of surprising performances at Canterbury. Harr has the tactical awareness to rate a horse off a hot pace, and at 4-1, OUTLAW RUN (2) is the most underrated horse in the field based on post position alone.

MATT'S LUCK (5), trained by Robertson McLean and ridden by Manuel Americano, goes at 4-1. McLean has been active with turf horses all evening and MATT'S LUCK (5) figures to be well-prepared. From the five-post in a seven-horse field, Americano will have options for positioning. A late-card winning push from the McLean barn is not out of the question.

Longshots

LATIN FORCE (3), trained by Nik Goodwin and ridden by Fausto Da Silva, goes at 5-1. Goodwin is a less prolific Canterbury conditioner, but Da Silva has been riding with purpose this meet and the 5-1 price suggests modest board interest. LATIN FORCE (3) from the three-post on the turf has a workable draw.

MORE MONEY MO (6), trained by Edgar Espinoza and ridden by Constantino Roman, goes at 12-1. Espinoza also trains HOT LEGS ROMOLO (2) in Race 4 and is active on the card tonight. MORE MONEY MO (6) at 12-1 is deep trifecta/superfecta material only — include in larger ticket structures.

ARJUN FOR KARZ (1), trained by Edgar Espinoza and ridden by Alonso Quinonez, is the morning line longshot at 15-1. The rail in a turf sprint carries risk of getting boxed in on the first turn, and the 15-1 price reflects the horse's challenges. Small superfecta inclusion only.

Selections

Win: FLYING MARTINI (7) Place: PAT CAN'T COUNT (4) Show: OUTLAW RUN (2)

Betting Strategy: FLYING MARTINI (7) at 2-1 is playable in exotics but not at that price to win. Structure a trifecta using FLYING MARTINI (7) and PAT CAN'T COUNT (4) on top, with OUTLAW RUN (2), MATT'S LUCK (5), and LATIN FORCE (3) filling in the third slot. OUTLAW RUN (2) at 4-1 from the two-post is worth a small straight win bet as a value play. The closer PAT CAN'T COUNT (4) at 3-1 is the best win play on the race for bettors seeking a clear price edge.

Jockey Notes and Insights

Eduardo Gallardo is the most strategically positioned jockey on tonight's card with mounts in Races 1, 2, 3, 4, 6, and 7. He rides BAVARIA ROAD (2) in Race 1, CHAMAVILLE (4) in Race 2, COBBLESTONE BRIDGE (1) in Race 3, LORING PARK (4) in Race 4, BABY DOLL PEACH (3) in Race 6, and FLYING MARTINI (7) in Race 7. His book includes morning line favorites BABY DOLL PEACH (3) in the feature and FLYING MARTINI (7) in the closer. Gallardo consistently ranks among the Canterbury meet leaders in wins and earnings, and his combination of strong gate tactics and reliable finishes in stretch duels makes him a must-follow tonight.

Manuel Americano rides SUPERSTAR SWANK (5) in Race 1, DUTTON STREET GIRL (5) in Race 2, MR. WHO (3) in Race 3, MR FABRICATOR (3) in Race 4, AINT BEHAVIN (5) in Race 5, HEAVENLY CAPTIVE (6) in Race 6, and MATT'S LUCK (5) in Race 7. A full card of seven mounts puts Americano in contention for a big night. He is aboard several co-favorites and has the benefit of riding for the productive Jose Silva Jr. barn multiple times. His mount on MR. WHO (3) in Race 3 and HEAVENLY CAPTIVE (6) in Race 6 are the two live chances for an Americano banner night.

J. Riquelme rides four horses tonight — CREW DRAGON (1) in Race 1, LOW KEY (3) in Race 2, MARIAROSADELASERDA (2) in Race 6, and PAT CAN'T COUNT (4) in Race 7. Three of those four mounts are morning line co-favorites or co-second choices, putting Riquelme in a strong position to accumulate winners. His pairing with the Robertson McLean barn in Race 1 and Race 2 is particularly noteworthy.

Victor Lara rides MONGOLIAN CHAMP (4) in Race 1, SCOTTISH STORM (2) in Race 3, HOLIDAY FANTASY (5) in Race 4, TWENTYTHREEONBLACK (4) in Race 5, and BLUES CROSS (7) in Race 6. Lara's book is composed primarily of secondary choices and longer shots, which makes his Race 6 mount on BLUES CROSS (7) at 5-1 the most intriguing. In a wide-open allowance event, Lara stealing a win at that price would not be a shock.

Alonso Quinonez rides REBEL GAL (1) in Race 2, COBBLESTONE BRIDGE (1) in Race 3 — wait, the card has COBBLESTONE BRIDGE (1) assigned to Gallardo. Quinonez rides PRINCE RAMA (4) in Race 3, LOGICAL MYTH (1) in Race 4, and ARJUN FOR KARZ (1) in Race 7. The Woolley barn uses Quinonez regularly, and his mounts tonight are mostly secondary choices and longshots. PRINCE RAMA (4) at 3-1 in Race 3 is his best chance at a win.

Kelsi Harr rides SIR EXTON (5) in Race 3, OUTLAW RUN (2) in Race 7, and CHARGING DARLING (5) in Race 6. The 4-1 on SIR EXTON (5) and OUTLAW RUN (2) give Harr two legitimate chances to visit the winner's circle tonight. She is a capable and improving rider at Canterbury who tends to deliver best when her horses have tactical room to maneuver.

Fausto Da Silva rides DONTMESSWITHTESS (2) in Race 2, SOCAL RED (6) in Race 4, RULY'S STREET (1) in Race 5, and LATIN FORCE (3) in Race 7. Da Silva has been one of the more consistent riders at Canterbury this summer, and his combination with the Silva barn on SOCAL RED (6) in Race 4 is the most interesting angle in his book tonight.

Sachin Parris rides one horse tonight — SMILE SMILE SMILE (2) in Race 5. In a short field maiden event, a single mount is workable, and Parris is developing into a reliable journeyman rider at Canterbury. The 4-1 price offers fair value.

Trainer Notes and Insights

Jose Silva Jr. is the most active trainer on tonight's card, saddling MR FABRICATOR (3) and SOCAL RED (6) in Race 4, RULY'S STREET (1) and AINT BEHAVIN (5) in Race 5, MR. WHO (3) in Race 3, and DUTTON STREET GIRL (5) in Race 2. With seven horses in seven races, Silva is essentially running the equivalent of a full-time operation in a single evening. His win rate at Canterbury this meet has been competitive, and the dual entries in Races 4 and 5 suggest barn-wide confidence. MR. WHO (3) at even money in Race 3 and AINT BEHAVIN (5) at even money in Race 5 are the barn's two expected chart-toppers.

Robertson McLean saddles CREW DRAGON (1) and SUPERSTAR SWANK (5) in Race 1, LOW KEY (3) in Race 2, HEAVENLY CAPTIVE (6) in Race 6, and MATT'S LUCK (5) in Race 7. The dual entry in Race 1 adds an interesting management dimension — with both horses at 2-1 and 4-1 on the morning line, the barn has outstanding coverage. McLean's grass horses have been particularly productive this meet, making LOW KEY (3) and HEAVENLY CAPTIVE (6) the most important starts of his evening.

Tim Padilla trains R N R AUDIBLE (3) and MONGOLIAN CHAMP (4) in Race 1, NANCY'S SHAWL (1) in Race 6, and HOLIDAY FANTASY (5) in Race 4. The dual entry in Race 1 mirrors the McLean situation, and Padilla could clean up the opener entirely. The barn's Race 6 entry NANCY'S SHAWL (1) at 6-1 from the inside post is worth monitoring — Padilla sometimes targets featured races for live longshots.

Joel Berndt runs BABY DOLL PEACH (3) and KAIA'S CHOICE (4) in Race 6, giving him exceptional coverage in the card's richest race. Berndt selecting two different jockeys — Gallardo and Fuentes — suggests he is confident in both horses and does not have a clear stable preference. When a trainer uses top riders on both entries in a featured race, the message is clear: both horses belong.

Troy Bethke trains MARIAROSADELASERDA (2) and CHARGING DARLING (5) in Race 6 and LORING PARK (4) in Race 4. The dual entry in Race 6 gives Bethke a horse at 4-1 and a horse at 12-1 in the same event. MARIAROSADELASERDA (2) with Riquelme from the two-post is the primary Bethke selection, while CHARGING DARLING (5) provides superfecta coverage.

Martin Escobar trains CHAMAVILLE (4) in Race 2 and BLUES CROSS (7) in Race 6 and MORE MONEY MO (6) in Race 7. Escobar's best horse tonight appears to be CHAMAVILLE (4) in Race 2 at 4-1, where the firm turf and Gallardo in the irons create a legitimate winning opportunity.

Manuel Ortiz Sr. trains DONTMESSWITHTESS (2) in Race 2, NO BILLS CAMPAIGN (3) in Race 5, and PAT CAN'T COUNT (4) in Race 7. Ortiz's best chance tonight may be PAT CAN'T COUNT (4) at 3-1 in Race 7, where the four-post on the turf sprint creates ideal positioning for a stalking-style finisher.

Bennie Woolley Jr. trains REBEL GAL (1) in Race 2, LOGICAL MYTH (1) in Race 4, and SMILE SMILE SMILE (2) in Race 5. Woolley's busiest night of the summer, with three starters and Quinonez carrying much of the weight. LOGICAL MYTH (1) at 4-1 from the turf rail in Race 4 is the barn's best value play.

Best Wagering Strategies and Value Plays

The Canterbury Park evening card on June 4 offers several high-quality wagering opportunities for players who prioritize value over chalk. The key to this card is avoiding the four morning line co-favorites priced at or near even money — MR. WHO (3) in Race 3, AINT BEHAVIN (5) in Race 5, and the co-favorites in Races 1 and 2 — and instead focusing on exotic combinations where the horses in the 3-1 to 6-1 range can maximize payout.

The best single-race value play on the card is PAT CAN'T COUNT (4) at 3-1 in Race 7. This horse has an ideal post-position draw on the turf, an improving trainer in Ortiz, and a high-percentage jockey in Riquelme. In a race where the 2-1 morning line favorite FLYING MARTINI (7) comes from the outside post, the middle-of-the-pack draw of PAT CAN'T COUNT (4) is a legitimate edge.

For the Pick 4 covering Races 4 through 7, the following structure offers excellent value and coverage. In Race 4, use HOT LEGS ROMOLO (2) and MR FABRICATOR (3) as the top pair with LOGICAL MYTH (1) as the saver. In Race 5, single AINT BEHAVIN (5) to reduce ticket cost — the heavy favorite in a five-horse maiden field is as close to a single as the card offers. In Race 6, use BABY DOLL PEACH (3), HEAVENLY CAPTIVE (6), MARIAROSADELASERDA (2), and KAIA'S CHOICE (4) for broad coverage in the featured event. In Race 7, use FLYING MARTINI (7), PAT CAN'T COUNT (4), and OUTLAW RUN (2) as the closing trio. A $1 Pick 4 using this structure costs $36 with the single in Race 5, and any race where the longshot section fires will result in a meaningful payout.

The best trifecta race on the card is Race 6. The seven-horse field with four horses sharing 4-1 to 5-1 morning line odds creates trifecta payouts that could easily reach the three-figure range for a $1 ticket. A structured approach using BABY DOLL PEACH (3) on top with four horses underneath in alternating second and third positions offers broad coverage. NANCY'S SHAWL (1) at 6-1 from the rail is the value inclusion in this trifecta structure — if she fires, the ticket could pay north of $200 for $1.

For Race 2, the five-horse turf mile field offers an affordable $1 trifecta investment. Boxing LOW KEY (3), DUTTON STREET GIRL (5), CHAMAVILLE (4), and DONTMESSWITHTESS (2) in a $1 trifecta box costs $24 and covers virtually every competitive scenario in the race. At those prices, the payout could easily return $40 to $80 on a $1 ticket.

The best exacta bet of the night is COBBLESTONE BRIDGE (1) over MR. WHO (3) in Race 3. At 2-1 and with the rail in a nine-furlong-plus dirt route, COBBLESTONE BRIDGE (1) has been underestimated at its current morning line price. If COBBLESTONE BRIDGE (1) defeats the heavily-backed MR. WHO (3), the exacta could return $12 to $18 for a $2 ticket — well worth the investment.

For players who prefer to spread across the entire card with a Pick 7, use singles on CREW DRAGON (1) in Race 1, LOW KEY (3) in Race 2, MR. WHO (3) in Race 3, HOT LEGS ROMOLO (2) in Race 4, and AINT BEHAVIN (5) in Race 5, then spread to four horses in Race 6 and three horses in Race 7. This gives a manageable ticket size while covering the most likely outcomes. The value in any Pick 7 at Canterbury comes when one or two medium-priced horses (in the 4-1 to 6-1 range) hit in the wide-open races, which tonight most likely means Race 6 or Race 7.

One final value angle: the Robertson McLean barn is running horses in five of the seven races tonight. When a barn of that quality is operating at full capacity on a single card, stabling synergies, fresh legs, and tactical advantage tend to compound. McLean's best shot of the evening is HEAVENLY CAPTIVE (6) at 4-1 in Race 6 — a live contender in the card's featured event with one of the meet's most reliable riders.
