Delaware Park Race Day Overview — Thursday, July 30, 2026

Delaware Park kicks off its Thursday card with ten races spanning dirt and turf, ranging from bottom-level $5,000 claimers to a $48,000 optional claimer on the grass. The card leans heavily on claiming company, which is typical for a mid-week Delaware card, but Races 5 and 8 feature legitimate turf fields that should attract sharp money. The meet has been running strong through the heart of summer, and Delaware's turf course has been in excellent shape throughout July. With Saratoga drawing the headlines — Magnitude's Whitney prep and White Abarrio both working sharply this week — the regional tracks like Delaware present overlay opportunities for the savvy bettor willing to dig into the condition book.

Notable angle for the day: trainer Jamie Ness has three horses entered across the card — Majestic Tiger (POST 5) in Race 6, Guaponess (POST 4) in Race 7, and Daw Samaa (POST 11) in Race 3. Ness runs a high-volume operation at Delaware and is among the meet's leading trainers. His barn should be monitored closely. Cathal Lynch similarly doubles up with Blackfoot Bounty (POST 15) and Read The Meter (POST 2) in Race 3, along with Capricorn Belle (POST 4) and Good Golly Msfolly (POST 5) in Race 4. Lynch is a perennial top-five trainer at Delaware and his horses consistently fire fresh and when dropping or stretching out on turf.

The Diodoro ruling noted in this week's national rulings is not relevant to today's Delaware card, as Diodoro does not appear among the trainers listed. The $400,000 Rainbow 6 carryover that headlined Monday at Gulfstream has since been resolved, but Delaware's own multi-race sequences deserve attention on a ten-race card.

Weather and Track Conditions — Delaware Park, July 30, 2026

The Mid-Atlantic region is experiencing a stretch of warm, humid summer weather typical of late July in Wilmington, Delaware. Temperatures are expected to reach the low-to-mid 90s by mid-afternoon, with humidity making it feel closer to the upper 90s. No significant precipitation is forecast for Thursday, meaning the main track should be listed as fast and the turf course should remain firm to good.

Delaware's main dirt track has been playing fair through the Saratoga simulcast meet period, with no major maintenance reports flagging unusual bias conditions. The turf course at Delaware is a well-maintained inner course that tends to favor horses with a ground-saving trip, especially when it plays firm. Post position can matter slightly on turf routes, as the inside posts have a shorter run to the first turn, but the course is wide enough that outside posts are not a severe disadvantage.

Delaware's main track historically plays with a slight speed bias in sprint distances, particularly at six furlongs and six and a half furlongs, where horses that clear the field early from inside posts have an advantage. Route races on the main track at a mile and an eighth tend to be more pace-dependent, and closers have a better opportunity when two or more horses contest the early fractions.

Track and Post Position Bias Analysis

On the Delaware Park main track at sprint distances, the rail and inside posts (1 through 3) have shown a modest speed bias advantage throughout the 2026 meet, particularly in fields of eight or fewer. Horses that can get to the front from posts 1 through 4 without burning excessive early energy tend to hold on. In six-furlong races, pace scenarios with a lone front-runner are especially dangerous to fade.

In route races on dirt (Races 7), post position matters less than pace setup. The longer run to the first turn at a mile and an eighth neutralizes some of the inside advantage. Closers can be effective here when early fractions are honest.

On the turf course in today's two turf routes (Races 5 and 8 at approximately a mile and an eighth and a mile and three-sixteenths respectively), the rail has been favorable for pace-pressers who can save ground on the turn. Outside posts beyond 8 in large fields can be a disadvantage if the pace collapses. Both turf races today have fields of nine and ten runners, so ground loss from the outside posts is a real consideration.

RACE 1 — Post (12:20) — 1320f | D | C | Clm 10000b | BUM | Purse $20,000

Six furlongs on the main track for fillies and mares, claiming price $10,000, bottom-end claiming company. Eight runners entered. This race is wide open at the top with two horses sharing the morning line favoritism.

Race 1

Pace Analysis

Sunset Express (POST 7) projects as the likely pace-setter from the outside of the post draw. Rozzyroo (POST 6) and Vino Bella (POST 3) both figure to be close to the pace as well. If multiple horses contest the early fractions, this sets up as a race that could be won by a stalker or a closer, which makes Rozzyroo (POST 6) and Vino Bella (POST 3) interesting, as both can press or stalk depending on how the race develops. A lone-speed scenario for Sunset Express (POST 7) would make her dangerous on the front end.

Key Contenders

Sunset Express (POST 7), the morning line favorite at 2-1, is trained by John E. Salzman Jr. and ridden by J.S. Rocco Jr. The Salzman-Rocco combination has been reliable at this level at Delaware throughout the meet. Sunset Express (POST 7) figures on current form and class, and the 2-1 morning line reflects her standing as the horse the field must beat. She draws the seven post, which in a six-furlong sprint for mares can mean a wide early trip if the pace is contentious, but Rocco is experienced enough to get her a clean run.

Vino Bella (POST 3), co-favorite at 4-1 on the morning line, is trained by Michael V. Simone and gets the call of Edwin Gonzalez, who is one of the more active and capable riders on the Delaware circuit. Post 3 is a favorable starting point in a sprint. Vino Bella (POST 3) at 4-1 may represent better value than the morning line favorite given the better post position.

Secondary Choices

Rozzyroo (POST 6) is the other 4-1 horse, trained by Andrew Simoff and ridden by Julio A. Hernandez. Simoff is a solid claiming trainer at Delaware, and Hernandez has been in good form on the circuit. Rozzyroo (POST 6) figures as a legitimate pace factor and should not be ignored at co-fourth on the morning line.

Stylish Gem (POST 4) at 6-1 for trainer Jeffrey A. Poole and jockey Cipriano Gil is a horse to consider if she can get a ground-saving trip from the four hole. Poole trains a solid claiming barn at Delaware and occasionally finds value spots at this level.

Longshots

Barbados Bulldog (POST 2) at 8-1 for trainer Jose Corrales and jockey Jorge F. Hernandez is worth a glance as a potential pace factor from the inside. Corrales occasionally places horses well in bottom-end claiming spots. Miss Raucus (POST 5) at 8-1 for trainer Michael V. Pino and jockey Martin Chuan is a mid-pack type who needs pace help. Sister Carlie (POST 8) at 8-1 for trainer Pedro Nazario and jockey Emanuel Rosario draws the extreme outside post in a sprint, which is a tough task at this level. Sugar Princess (POST 1) at 10-1 for trainer Jorge Diaz and jockey Bryan L. Torres is at the top of the rail, which can be advantageous in a sprint if she breaks cleanly, though the 10-1 morning line suggests she is not the form choice.

Betting Strategy

The race comes down to Sunset Express (POST 7) versus Vino Bella (POST 3) and Rozzyroo (POST 6). The exacta pairing of Vino Bella (POST 3) and Rozzyroo (POST 6) underneath Sunset Express (POST 7) is the primary structure. Vino Bella (POST 3) at 4-1 with a favorable inside post offers the best win value on the top.

Selections

Win: Vino Bella (POST 3) Place: Sunset Express (POST 7) Show: Rozzyroo (POST 6)

RACE 2 — Post (12:52) — 1320f | D | CO | OClm 12500 | CUN | Purse $22,000

Six furlongs on the main track, optional claimer at $12,500 for fillies and mares. Seven runners. Gallant Knight (POST 6) is the prohibitive morning line favorite at 2-1 in this modest field.

Race 2

Pace Analysis

With only seven runners, the pace scenario is easier to identify. Gallant Knight (POST 6) and Triple Pass (POST 5) are likely to be the primary speed horses here, with both trainers — Jose A. Gallegos and John Collins, respectively — known for running their horses near the pace. Just Relax (POST 1) could also factor early from the rail. If Gallant Knight (POST 6) secures the lead uncontested, the 2-1 morning line may be hard to beat. A pace duel between Gallant Knight (POST 6) and Triple Pass (POST 5) opens the door for Just Relax (POST 1) or Liberty Star (POST 7).

Key Contenders

Gallant Knight (POST 6) at 2-1 for trainer Jose A. Gallegos and jockey Cipriano Gil is the clear morning line choice. At the 2-1 price there is limited win value, but he is the horse the field must beat. The six post in a six-furlong sprint means he will need to find his way through traffic or take back early, which Cipriano Gil is adept at handling.

Triple Pass (POST 5) at 3-1 for trainer John Collins and jockey Carol Cedeno is a logical main rival. Collins is a competent condition claimer trainer at Delaware, and the five post is ideal in a sprint. If Triple Pass (POST 5) can establish position early and apply pressure to Gallant Knight (POST 6), the race becomes competitive.

Secondary Choices

Just Relax (POST 1) at 4-1 for trainer Michael V. Simone and jockey Edwin Gonzalez draws the rail and could benefit from a pace battle between the two favorites. Gonzalez's rail experience is an asset here. Liberty Star (POST 7) at 4-1 for trainer Ernesto Padilla-Preciado and jockey Ruben Silvera draws the outside post but could close into a pace duel.

Longshots

Leonids (POST 2) at 10-1 for trainer Freya Gerlach and jockey Shirley Yancapallo Gomocio is a deep longshot who would need significant pace collapse. Murray (POST 3) at 12-1 for trainer A. Ferris Allen III and jockey Julio A. Hernandez and City Panda (POST 4) at 12-1 for trainer Alejandro Olais Mendieta and jockey Sara Hess are both at long prices and figure to be non-factors unless the pace completely falls apart.

Betting Strategy

Gallant Knight (POST 6) at 2-1 is limited win value. The best play is to use Triple Pass (POST 5) on top with Gallant Knight (POST 6) and Just Relax (POST 1) underneath in exactas. If Gallant Knight (POST 6) is odds-on at post time, Triple Pass (POST 5) at 3-1 is the value win play.

Selections

Win: Gallant Knight (POST 6) Place: Triple Pass (POST 5) Show: Just Relax (POST 1)

RACE 3 — Post (1:24) — 1980f | T | M | Md 16000 | BUN | Purse $20,000

A mile and a quarter on the turf for maidens at $16,000 claiming. Fifteen runners in the gate makes this one of the most challenging races on the card. Large full-field turf maiden claimers are notoriously difficult to handicap, as many horses are trying the distance or the surface for the first time. Post position becomes magnified at this distance, especially for outside posts in a 15-horse field.

Race 3

Pace Analysis

Starmetal (POST 5) is the morning line favorite at 2-1, and Daw Samaa (POST 11) comes in at 4-1 as the second choice. In a 15-horse maiden turf route, the pace is typically contested as multiple horses attempt to secure position on the first turn. The inside posts — My Friend Lou (POST 1), Read The Meter (POST 2), and Putter Man (POST 3) — have the advantage of a clear run to the first turn. Rum Rock (POST 4) and Starmetal (POST 5) are also favorably drawn. Both Sides Of Bad (POST 9) at 3-1 has a middle draw that is manageable. Horses from posts 12 through 15 will need the pace to set up or will need to find significant ground savings on the rail.

Key Contenders

Starmetal (POST 5) at 2-1 for trainer Michelle Nihei and jockey Gavin Ashton is the clear morning line choice. The five post in a turf mile and a quarter is excellent. Ashton is a competent rider for the Delaware circuit, and Nihei spots her horses well. The 2-1 morning line suggests Starmetal (POST 5) is well-regarded on early figures or breeding that suits the distance and surface.

Both Sides Of Bad (POST 9) at 3-1 for trainer Richard J. Hendriks and jockey Julio A. Hernandez is the second wagering choice. Hendriks is experienced with turf routes at the Delaware level, and Hernandez is the meet's top or near-top jockey. The nine post is workable in a 15-horse field on turf.

Secondary Choices

Daw Samaa (POST 11) at 4-1 for trainer Jamie Ness and jockey Martin Chuan is the Ness runner to consider in this spot. Ness trains a large volume of horses at Delaware, and he places horses effectively in maiden claiming routes. The 11 post is a disadvantage in a 15-horse field, requiring either a ground-saving trip or significant pace in front to make a late run. Rum Rock (POST 4) at 5-1 for trainer Bentley Combs and jockey Angel Cruz draws well inside and could factor if he has any turf affinity.

Longshots

Quain (POST 6) at 10-1 for trainer Nesvil Hernan Bailon and jockey Jose A. Batista, Tyrus (POST 8) at 10-1 for trainer Anthony Pecoraro and jockey Edwin Gonzalez, and Christmas Surprise (POST 10) at 15-1 for trainer Mark Shuman and jockey Cipriano Gil are all horses that could hit the board at big prices in a full field. Putter Man (POST 3) at 12-1 for trainer Tim Woolley and jockey Jose R. Betancourt and Pujol (POST 7) at 12-1 for trainer Kelly Lynn Deiter and jockey Martin Chuan are worth noting as post-position-friendly longshots. Read The Meter (POST 2) at 15-1 for trainer Cathal Lynch and jockey Emanuel Rosario has the Lynch barn flag, which is meaningful. Blackfoot Bounty (POST 15) at 15-1 for trainer Cathal Lynch and jockey Julio A. Hernandez faces the extreme outside post draw in a 15-horse field, which is a significant disadvantage. My Friend Lou (POST 1) at 20-1 for trainer Carlos A. Mancilla and jockey Yomar Orlando Ortiz draws the rail, which can be advantageous in turf routes but the 20-1 morning line indicates limited expectations. Saint Solomon (POST 14) at 20-1 for trainer Tamara Housel and jockey Joshua J. Radosevich and Goldinthesky (POST 12) at 12-1 for trainer Mauricio Nunez and jockey Paul A. Luna are extreme outsiders. Bukovel (POST 13) at 30-1 for trainer Christine F. Clagett and jockey Brittany Scampton is a throwout at that price in a 15-horse turf maiden claimer.

Betting Strategy

In a 15-horse maiden turf claimer, trifecta and superfecta wagering offer the best bang. Use Starmetal (POST 5) and Both Sides Of Bad (POST 9) as your top two and spread underneath to Both Sides Of Bad (POST 9), Daw Samaa (POST 11), Rum Rock (POST 4), and Quain (POST 6). The Lynch horses — Read The Meter (POST 2) and Blackfoot Bounty (POST 15) — at combined 15-1 prices in a full turf field are worth small trifecta inclusion for the payoff upside.

Selections

Win: Starmetal (POST 5) Place: Both Sides Of Bad (POST 9) Show: Daw Samaa (POST 11)

RACE 4 — Post (1:56) — 1210f | D | CO | OClm 25000 | BUM | Purse $26,000

Six and a half furlongs on the dirt for older fillies and mares, optional claiming at $25,000. Seven runners. Truthorconsequence (POST 7) is the morning line favorite at 2-1.

Race 4

Pace Analysis

Six and a half furlongs tends to sort out pace scenarios more decisively than a flat six furlongs. Truthorconsequence (POST 7) from the outside post and Starlit Nite (POST 1) from the rail are likely the primary early speed. Good Golly Msfolly (POST 5) for trainer Lynch could also apply pressure. If Truthorconsequence (POST 7) has to work from the outside post and gets involved in a pace duel, that opens the race for the Lynch barn's horses to hit the board.

Key Contenders

Truthorconsequence (POST 7) at 2-1 for trainer Michael M. Moore and jockey Andy Hernandez is the morning line choice. Moore is a capable condition claimer trainer, and the seven post in a seven-runner field means she is effectively drawing near the middle of the field after the first break. The 2-1 price suggests she is the form choice, likely based on recent speed figures or class.

Good Golly Msfolly (POST 5) at 4-1 for trainer Cathal Lynch and jockey Julio A. Hernandez is a must-use. Lynch's record at Delaware in optional claiming spots for mares is excellent, and the five post is ideal. The Lynch-Hernandez combination should be treated with respect.

Secondary Choices

Starlit Nite (POST 1) at 4-1 for trainer Harold Wyner and jockey F. Pennington draws the rail and could be effective if she can clear to a clear lead. Wyner is an experienced Delaware trainer. Capricorn Belle (POST 4) at 6-1 for trainer Cathal Lynch and jockey Jose A. Batista gives Lynch a second runner in this race, which is notable. Lynch does not typically split his horses without reason.

Longshots

Belle Ofthe Wood (POST 3) at 6-1 for trainer Brittany T. Russell and jockey J. Pimentel is a legitimate longshot worth consideration. Russell has been active at Delaware this summer. Reckless Spending (POST 2) at 8-1 for trainer Elisha Rathman and jockey Edwin Gonzalez is a longer price and likely needs a significant pace collapse. High Heel Native (POST 6) at 12-1 for trainer Jaclyn J. Reed and jockey Martin Chuan is at a generous price and figures to be a non-factor.

Betting Strategy

The Lynch double-entry — Good Golly Msfolly (POST 5) and Capricorn Belle (POST 4) — at 4-1 and 6-1 respectively is compelling. If Lynch fires one of them, it could be at the expense of the other, but both offer value over Truthorconsequence (POST 7) at 2-1. Exactas pairing Truthorconsequence (POST 7) with Good Golly Msfolly (POST 5) and Capricorn Belle (POST 4) are the primary structures.

Selections

Win: Truthorconsequence (POST 7) Place: Good Golly Msfolly (POST 5) Show: Capricorn Belle (POST 4)

RACE 5 — Post (2:28) — 1760f | T | AO | OClm 75000n1x | BOF | Purse $46,000

A mile and three-sixteenths on the turf, optional claiming at $75,000, non-winners of one allowance race. Fillies and mares. Nine runners in what figures to be the most competitive race of the first half of the card. Tideoftime (POST 7) and Intrepids Fantasy (POST 8) are co-morning line favorites at 2-1.

Race 5

Pace Analysis

Lunar Buzz (POST 1) for trainer Arnaud Delacour could push the pace from the inside. Dale (POST 5) is a 12-1 longshot who figures to press early. Amberia (POST 6) for trainer H. Graham Motion and Echo Juliet (POST 4) for Brett Brinkman are likely to be pace-pressers or stalkers. Tideoftime (POST 7) and Intrepids Fantasy (POST 8) are both likely to be ridden off the pace from their outside posts, making a pace-honest scenario important for their chances. If the pace is slow, either one could be vulnerable to a horse that gets to the front cheaply.

Key Contenders

Tideoftime (POST 7) at 2-1 for trainer Michael R. Matz and jockey J.S. Rocco Jr. is one of two co-favorites. Matz is an elite-level Mid-Atlantic trainer with an exceptional record on turf, and his horses are always prepared. Tideoftime (POST 7) figures to have significant class over most of this field, and the seven post on a wide turf course at Delaware is not a major obstacle.

Intrepids Fantasy (POST 8) at 2-1 for trainer Gary A. Capuano and jockey Emanuel Rosario is the other co-favorite. Capuano is one of the top trainers at Delaware and Laurel and has a very strong record in optional claimer turf routes. Rosario is an experienced rider for this circuit. The eight post is slightly wide but manageable in a nine-horse field on turf.

Cozy Rosie (POST 9) at 4-1 for trainer Michael R. Matz and jockey Martin Chuan is Matz's second entry. A Matz double entry in the same race is always meaningful. Cozy Rosie (POST 9) at 4-1 is clearly the second-best of the Matz pair in his estimation, but at 4-1 she offers value relative to the even-money co-favorites.

Secondary Choices

Amberia (POST 6) at 5-1 for trainer H. Graham Motion and jockey Julio A. Hernandez is a horse to respect. Motion is one of the most accomplished turf trainers in North America and regularly places horses at Delaware in spots designed to find the winner's circle. The five-post for Amberia (POST 6) in a turf route is ideal. Echo Juliet (POST 4) at 5-1 for trainer Brett Brinkman and jockey Edwin Gonzalez is another legitimate contender, well-drawn in the four hole.

Longshots

Lunar Buzz (POST 1) at 8-1 for trainer Arnaud Delacour and jockey Angel Cruz is a Delacour runner, and Delacour's turf horses should always be respected regardless of price. The one post on turf routes can be a significant advantage. Sticker Shocked (POST 3) at 8-1 for trainer Arnaud Delacour and jockey Charlie Marquez gives Delacour a second bullet in this race — the trainer has two runners, which suggests confidence. Thirst For Hope (POST 2) at 8-1 for trainer Lynn Ashby and jockey Joshua J. Radosevich is an 8-1 price who may find the competition stiff but could surface in the exotics. Dale (POST 5) at 12-1 for trainer Robert Mosco and jockey Francisco Martinez is likely a non-factor.

Betting Strategy

The Matz double entry and the Delacour double entry both signal trainer confidence. Cozy Rosie (POST 9) at 4-1 with the Matz barn and Amberia (POST 6) at 5-1 with Motion are the two best value plays on the board. Exactas using Tideoftime (POST 7) and Intrepids Fantasy (POST 8) on top with Cozy Rosie (POST 9), Amberia (POST 6), and Echo Juliet (POST 4) underneath provide solid coverage. Lunar Buzz (POST 1) and Sticker Shocked (POST 3) for Delacour are worth trifecta inclusion at 8-1.

Selections

Win: Cozy Rosie (POST 9) Place: Tideoftime (POST 7) Show: Amberia (POST 6)

RACE 6 — Post (3:00) — 1320f | D | C | Clm 5000b | BUN | Purse $16,000

Six furlongs on the dirt, $5,000 claiming, open company. Fifteen runners in the field makes this as chaotic as the Race 3 maiden event. Bottom-level claiming races with 15 horses are essentially impossible to confidently handicap, and the wide speed in the post spread creates a pace scenario that could turn into a demolition derby on the front end.

Race 6

Pace Analysis

Concealed Carry (POST 9) at 2-1 is the morning line choice, trained by Jamie Ness and ridden by Martin Chuan. Majestic Tiger (POST 5) at 3-1, also from the Ness barn and ridden by Emanuel Rosario, is the other top choice. In a field this large and this cheap, early positioning will be chaotic. Prom Knight (POST 4), Broderick (POST 1), and Mogalu (POST 3) could all press the pace early. Robert's Moon (POST 13) at 4-1 from the Salzman barn could close late into a pressured pace.

Key Contenders

Concealed Carry (POST 9) at 2-1 for trainer Jamie Ness and jockey Martin Chuan is the class of the field based on the morning line. Ness doing double-duty with two horses in this race at the top of the board is notable. The nine post in a 15-horse sprint means early traffic will need to be navigated, but Chuan is experienced here.

Majestic Tiger (POST 5) at 3-1 for trainer Jamie Ness and jockey Emanuel Rosario is the inside Ness runner. The five post is significantly better than the nine post in a 15-horse sprint, and Rosario riding the other Ness horse at 3-1 suggests this could be the stable's primary target. If one Ness horse fires, Majestic Tiger (POST 5) may be the form preference given the post advantage.

Secondary Choices

Robert's Moon (POST 13) at 4-1 for trainer John E. Salzman Jr. and jockey J.S. Rocco Jr. is a legitimate contender despite the wide post draw. Salzman has been effective at this level throughout the meet, and Rocco knows how to rate a horse and close. Little Lance (POST 8) at 5-1 for trainer Alfredo Velazquez and jockey Sebastian Orellana is a middle-priced horse with a good post draw.

Longshots

Addy's Laddy T N T (POST 6) at 8-1 for trainer Jose Corrales and jockey Raul E. Mena and Sassy Lad (POST 2) at 8-1 for trainer Bruce M. Kravets and jockey Marvin Fernandez are mid-field closers who need pace help. Backnthewoods (POST 15) at 8-1 for trainer Jose Corrales and jockey Charlie Munoz draws the extreme outside and needs a pace collapse. Bourbon Aficionado (POST 14) at 10-1 for trainer Miguel Penaloza and jockey Kleiner A. Mejias. Starship Mocha (POST 11) at 15-1 for trainer Mauricio Nunez and jockey Ronaldo Rodriguez. Rolly (POST 12) at 20-1 for trainer Thomas E. Waltke Jr. and jockey Teshawn Hazelwood, Prom Knight (POST 4) at 20-1 for trainer Cesar Nambo and jockey Angel Cruz, Broderick (POST 1) at 12-1 for trainer Jane Martin and jockey Shirley Yancapallo Gomocio, and Ryan's Fleet (POST 7) at 30-1 for trainer Carlos A. Leung and jockey Felix Vasquez Jr. are all considerable outsiders. Mogalu (POST 3) at 30-1 for trainer Jose S. Rodriguez and jockey Ferley A. Infante and Latin Spice (POST 10) at 30-1 for trainer Jeffrey A. Poole and jockey Ajhari Williams round out the field as horses to dismiss at current prices.

Betting Strategy

In a 15-horse, $5,000 claimer, the best approach is a small trifecta play using Majestic Tiger (POST 5) and Concealed Carry (POST 9) on top and spreading to Robert's Moon (POST 13), Little Lance (POST 8), and a few others in third. The win pool is risky at this level, but if you play singles, Majestic Tiger (POST 5) at 3-1 with the better post is the play.

Selections

Win: Majestic Tiger (POST 5) Place: Concealed Carry (POST 9) Show: Robert's Moon (POST 13)

RACE 7 — Post (3:32) — 1870f | D | CO | OClm 15000 | BUN | Purse $25,000

A mile and a sixteenth on the dirt, optional claimer at $15,000. Eight runners. Guaponess (POST 4) and Epic Luck (POST 5) share co-morning line favoritism at 2-1. This figures as the most competitive route race on the main track.

Race 7

Pace Analysis

A mile and a sixteenth on the Delaware main track sets up the pace scenario clearly. Epic Luck (POST 5) for trainer Harold Wyner and jockey F. Pennington is likely to press the pace or stalk, while Guaponess (POST 4) from the Ness barn may prefer to rate off the pace. Maximus Magic (POST 6) at 4-1 for trainer Martin Hinckson and jockey Paul A. Luna is a stalker type. Striking Sparks (POST 1) for trainer Jose S. Rodriguez and Bill Of Rights (POST 2) for trainer Joanne Shankle could push the early pace from the inside. If the front end gets honest fractions, Guaponess (POST 4) and Maximus Magic (POST 6) have the pace shape to close.

Key Contenders

Guaponess (POST 4) at 2-1 for trainer Jamie Ness and jockey Martin Chuan is one of the co-favorites. Ness runs horses effectively in these optional claimer route spots, and the four post on the main track at a mile and a sixteenth is ideal. Chuan has been getting good results from the Ness barn.

Epic Luck (POST 5) at 2-1 for trainer Harold Wyner and jockey F. Pennington is the other co-favorite. Five post is a fine draw at this distance. Wyner's horses tend to be fit and ready, particularly in route spots.

Secondary Choices

Maximus Magic (POST 6) at 4-1 for trainer Martin Hinckson and jockey Paul A. Luna is the prime value play. Hinckson is a solid Delaware trainer who wins at a respectable rate, and Maximus Magic (POST 6) figures to get a mid-pack stalking trip from the six post. At 4-1 with solid credentials, he could outrun his price.

Longshots

Lookin At Roses (POST 7) at 10-1 for trainer Bruce M. Kravets and jockey Julio A. Hernandez is a closer who could benefit from a pace battle. Hernandez on a closer in a pace duel scenario is a meaningful angle. Striking Sparks (POST 1) at 10-1 for trainer Jose S. Rodriguez and jockey Marvin Fernandez and Bill Of Rights (POST 2) at 10-1 for trainer Joanne Shankle and jockey Brittany Scampton are pace horses who figure to be passed in the stretch. Martini Martin (POST 3) at 10-1 for trainer Jose S. Rodriguez and jockey Ronaldo Rodriguez is another distant outsider. Guys Trip (POST 8) at 15-1 for trainer Johnathon Fearon and jockey Teshawn Hazelwood draws the outside post and faces a difficult assignment from the gate.

Betting Strategy

Exacta pairing of Guaponess (POST 4) and Epic Luck (POST 5) in both directions is the safe play. Add Maximus Magic (POST 6) in second and third of trifectas for value. Lookin At Roses (POST 7) at 10-1 with Hernandez on a potential pace scenario is worth a minor trifecta ticket.

Selections

Win: Guaponess (POST 4) Place: Maximus Magic (POST 6) Show: Epic Luck (POST 5)

RACE 8 — Post (4:04) — 1830f | T | AO | OClm 62500b | BUN | Purse $48,000

A mile and three-sixteenths on the turf, optional claiming at $62,500. The day's richest purse at $48,000. Ten runners. Crazy Mason (POST 4) and Taking Candy (POST 6) are co-morning line favorites at 1-1, which is a rare double even-money scenario. This is the card's feature race.

Race 8

Pace Analysis

Crazy Mason (POST 4) for trainer Gregory D. Sacco and jockey Edwin Gonzalez and Taking Candy (POST 6) for trainer Cherie Devaux and jockey Martin Chuan are both likely to be ridden competitively in the early fractions. The scenario where both co-favorites contest the early pace could open the door for the horses behind them. Hunt Master (POST 5) for trainer Martin Hinckson and jockey Jose A. Batista is positioned between the co-favorites and could get a dream stalking trip if the two morning line choices set each other alight. Raise Cain (POST 10) for trainer Brittany T. Russell and jockey Julio A. Hernandez draws the outside post but is likely a closer. Versus (POST 2) and What Say Thee (POST 1) could factor from inside posts if the pace collapses.

Key Contenders

Crazy Mason (POST 4) at 1-1 for trainer Gregory D. Sacco and jockey Edwin Gonzalez is one of the two co-favorites. Sacco is a well-regarded Mid-Atlantic trainer with a solid record in turf optional claimers, and Gonzalez is a trusted rider. The four post in a ten-horse turf field is advantageous.

Taking Candy (POST 6) at 1-1 for trainer Cherie Devaux and jockey Martin Chuan is the other even-money choice. Devaux is an accomplished trainer, particularly on turf. Chuan has been riding well at Delaware throughout the meet.

Secondary Choices

Hunt Master (POST 5) at 4-1 for trainer Martin Hinckson and jockey Jose A. Batista is squeezed between the two co-favorites in the post draw, which is actually a favorable position for a horse likely to stalk the pace. If the two co-favorites duel, Hunt Master (POST 5) becomes a serious threat. At 4-1 he may represent the best win value on the board if that scenario materializes.

Raise Cain (POST 10) at 4-1 for trainer Brittany T. Russell and jockey Julio A. Hernandez figures as a closing threat from the outside. Hernandez is a capable closer-style rider, and Raise Cain (POST 10) at 4-1 in a pace-contested race offers significant value.

Longshots

Versus (POST 2) at 6-1 for trainer Kelly J. Breen and jockey Luis R. Rivera Jr. is a Breen runner on turf, which always demands respect. Breen has one of the best records of any active trainer in turf optional claimers throughout the Mid-Atlantic. St. Jude (POST 7) at 6-1 for trainer Ben Perkins Jr. and jockey Jose A. Batista — note that Batista is booked on two horses in this race (HUNT MASTER and ST. JUDE), which means there will be a jockey change on one. Verify the final jockey assignments before wagering on either horse. Majorca (POST 3) at 8-1 for trainer Daniel G. Eubanks and jockey Angel Cruz is a mid-pack type. What Say Thee (POST 1) at 5-1 for trainer Horacio De Paz and jockey Angel Cruz draws the inside rail on turf, which is an advantageous post. Cruz rides both What Say Thee (POST 1) and Majorca (POST 3) — another jockey conflict to watch. There Are No Words (POST 9) at 8-1 for trainer Charles Spina and jockey Charlie Marquez is an outsider who would need multiple things to go right. Crisper (POST 8) at 15-1 for trainer Tim Woolley and jockey Edwin Gonzalez — note that Gonzalez is also booked on Crazy Mason (POST 4), which means there will be a jockey change for Crisper (POST 8). At 15-1 this is a throwout.

Betting Strategy

The dual even-money morning line creates a unique betting situation. Neither Crazy Mason (POST 4) nor Taking Candy (POST 6) offers win value at 1-1. The play is to use Hunt Master (POST 5) at 4-1 and Raise Cain (POST 10) at 4-1 on top in exactas and trifectas, keying them over the co-favorites. Versus (POST 2) for trainer Kelly J. Breen at 6-1 is a must-include in all exotics given the trainer's turf record. What Say Thee (POST 1) at 5-1 from the inside rail is worth inclusion as well.

RACE 9 — Post (4:36) — 1210f | D | C | Clm 7500b | BUN | Purse $16,000

Six and a half furlongs on the dirt, $7,500 claiming. Ten runners. Federal Exchange (POST 8) is the morning line favorite at 2-1 for trainer Robert A. Werneth and jockey Cipriano Gil.

Race 9

Pace Analysis

Six and a half furlongs on the Delaware main track typically produces a more honest pace than a flat six, which should help closers. Battle Warrior (POST 2) at 5-1 for trainer Pedro Posadas and jockey Marvin Fernandez figures as an early pace horse from the inside. Ellinger (POST 5) at 4-1 for trainer Charles A. Frock and jockey Jasmine McGuin is likely a stalker or presser type from the five post. Federal Exchange (POST 8) at 2-1 will need to be patient from the outside post.

Key Contenders

Federal Exchange (POST 8) at 2-1 for trainer Robert A. Werneth and jockey Cipriano Gil is the morning line choice. Werneth is a consistent claiming trainer at Delaware with a track record of placing horses effectively at the $7,500 level. The eight post in a ten-horse sprint is manageable but requires a clean break. Gil is an experienced local jockey.

Ellinger (POST 5) at 4-1 for trainer Charles A. Frock and jockey Jasmine McGuin is a logical main rival. The five post is ideal, and Ellinger (POST 5) at 4-1 offers value over the morning line choice if the pace scenario sets up for a presser or stalker.

Secondary Choices

Battle Warrior (POST 2) at 5-1 for trainer Pedro Posadas and jockey Marvin Fernandez is a logical pace horse from the inside. If he can establish early and the pace is not contested, he has a shot. Borz (POST 10) at 8-1 for trainer Anthony Pecoraro and jockey Joshua J. Radosevich draws the outside post but could close into a hotly-contested pace.

Longshots

Twelve Nelson (POST 9) at 12-1 for trainer Michael E. Gorham and jockey Raul E. Mena, Borletti (POST 7) at 12-1 for trainer Christine F. Clagett and jockey Brittany Scampton, and God's Gold (POST 3) at 15-1 for trainer Robert A. Werneth and jockey Teshawn Hazelwood — note that Werneth has two horses in this race, God's Gold (POST 3) and Federal Exchange (POST 8). Trainers typically favor one horse over the other in these situations, and the morning line strongly suggests Federal Exchange (POST 8) is the primary runner. Good News Rocket (POST 4) at 10-1 for trainer Giovanni M. Salinas and jockey Carol Cedeno, Scudetto (POST 6) at 20-1 for trainer Jorge Diaz and jockey Bryan L. Torres, and Zingales King (POST 1) at 20-1 for trainer Orlando Rose and jockey Teresa Salazar are all distant outsiders.

Betting Strategy

Federal Exchange (POST 8) is a legitimate favorite at 2-1 in this spot, but Ellinger (POST 5) at 4-1 with the superior post is the value alternative. Exactas pairing Ellinger (POST 5) over Federal Exchange (POST 8) and Federal Exchange (POST 8) over Ellinger (POST 5) cover both win scenarios. Battle Warrior (POST 2) is worth inclusion in trifectas.

Jockey Notes and Insights

Julio A. Hernandez is the most prominent rider on today's Delaware card, appearing in Races 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, and 9 across the ten-race card. His mounts include Rozzyroo (POST 6) in Race 1, Murray (POST 3) in Race 2, Both Sides Of Bad (POST 9) in Race 3, Good Golly Msfolly (POST 5) in Race 4, Amberia (POST 6) in Race 5, and Lookin At Roses (POST 7) in Race 7 and Raise Cain (POST 10) in Race 9. Hernandez riding for trainer H. Graham Motion on Amberia (POST 6) in Race 5 is a significant angle — Motion rarely ships a horse to Delaware without a realistic winning chance.

Edwin Gonzalez appears on Vino Bella (POST 3) in Race 1, Just Relax (POST 1) in Race 2, Tyrus (POST 8) in Race 3, Reckless Spending (POST 2) in Race 4, Echo Juliet (POST 4) in Race 5, and Crazy Mason (POST 4) in Race 8. Gonzalez has been a reliable rider at Delaware throughout the 2026 meet, consistently finishing near the top of the jockey standings.

Martin Chuan picks up multiple high-profile mounts including Miss Raucus (POST 5) in Race 1, Pujol (POST 7) in Race 3, Daw Samaa (POST 11) in Race 3, High Heel Native (POST 6) in Race 4, Cozy Rosie (POST 9) in Race 5, Concealed Carry (POST 9) in Race 6, Guaponess (POST 4) in Race 7, and Taking Candy (POST 6) in Race 8. Note that Chuan is booked on both Daw Samaa (POST 11) and Pujol (POST 7) in Race 3 — there will be a jockey change on one of those horses. Confirm final assignments before wagering.

J.S. Rocco Jr. rides for multiple significant connections today, including Sunset Express (POST 7) in Race 1, Tideoftime (POST 7) in Race 5, and Robert's Moon (POST 13) in Race 6. The Rocco-Matz combination on Tideoftime (POST 7) in Race 5 is particularly notable given Matz's exceptional turf record.

Jose A. Batista appears on Both Sides Of Bad (POST 9) in Race 3, Capricorn Belle (POST 4) in Race 4, Quain (POST 6) in Race 3, Hunt Master (POST 5) in Race 8, and St. Jude (POST 7) in Race 8. The dual booking in Race 8 means one of those mounts will require a rider change.

Angel Cruz picks up Lunar Buzz (POST 1) in Race 5, What Say Thee (POST 1) and Majorca (POST 3) in Race 8 — another dual booking conflict that will require resolution before post time.

Trainer Notes and Insights

Jamie Ness fields three horses today — Daw Samaa (POST 11) in Race 3, Majestic Tiger (POST 5) and Concealed Carry (POST 9) in Race 6, and Guaponess (POST 4) in Race 7. Ness is one of Delaware Park's most active trainers, and his horses regularly pop at double-digit prices when the conditions align. The dual entry in Race 6 at 3-1 and 2-1 is unusual and bears watching on the tote board — sharp money flowing to one of the pair could indicate the intended runner.

Cathal Lynch has Blackfoot Bounty (POST 15) and Read The Meter (POST 2) in Race 3, then Capricorn Belle (POST 4) and Good Golly Msfolly (POST 5) in Race 4. Lynch is among Delaware's leading trainers by wins and win percentage, and his record in turf maiden claiming routes and optional claiming sprints is very strong. Lynch double entries are worth watching for late tote action.

Michael R. Matz fields Tideoftime (POST 7) and Cozy Rosie (POST 9) in Race 5, making Race 5 a two-trainer showdown between Matz and Arnaud Delacour, who also enters two horses — Lunar Buzz (POST 1) and Sticker Shocked (POST 3). Matz's turf record is elite at any level, and his presence on a Delaware optional claimer card with two entries signals confidence.

H. Graham Motion enters Amberia (POST 6) in Race 5. Motion rarely appears on Delaware cards without a real shot, and at 5-1 with Hernandez aboard, Amberia (POST 6) could easily be underrated.

Gregory D. Sacco enters Crazy Mason (POST 4) in Race 8 as a co-even-money choice. Sacco has a strong record in turf routes throughout the Mid-Atlantic circuit.

Kelly J. Breen enters Versus (POST 2) in Race 8, and Breen's turf horses at Delaware regularly outperform their morning line prices. At 6-1 with a favorable inside post, Versus (POST 2) deserves serious consideration.

Robert A. Werneth has two horses in Race 9 — Federal Exchange (POST 8) and God's Gold (POST 3). The trainer's betting preference is almost certainly Federal Exchange (POST 8) based on the morning line.

Best Wagering Strategies and Value Plays

The best value on today's entire card is in Race 5 and Race 8, the two turf optional claiming routes with the deepest fields and the most accomplished trainers. These two races anchor a natural Pick 3 with Race 7 sandwiched between them.

Race 5 Pick: Cozy Rosie (POST 9) at 4-1 represents the best win value on the card. Matz double entries at Delaware typically run one horse as the main battery and one as the secondary option, but at 4-1 versus 2-1 for the stablemate, Cozy Rosie (POST 9) offers two full price points of value. Amberia (POST 6) at 5-1 for Motion is the second-best value play on the card.

Race 8 angle: Both co-favorites at 1-1 are unplayable on the win end. The proper play is to use Hunt Master (POST 5) at 4-1 and Raise Cain (POST 10) at 4-1 as the primary win contenders, then build exactas and trifectas with Taking Candy (POST 6), Crazy Mason (POST 4), and Versus (POST 2) in the underneath slots.

Pick 3 structure (Races 5-6-7): Use Cozy Rosie (POST 9) / Tideoftime (POST 7) / Amberia (POST 6) in Race 5 over Majestic Tiger (POST 5) / Concealed Carry (POST 9) in Race 6 over Guaponess (POST 4) / Maximus Magic (POST 6) in Race 7. This gives you six combinations and covers the main angles in all three legs.

Pick 4 structure (Races 6-7-8-9): A four-race sequence covering the second half of the card is available. Recommended structure: Majestic Tiger (POST 5) / Concealed Carry (POST 9) in Race 6, single Guaponess (POST 4) in Race 7, Hunt Master (POST 5) / Taking Candy (POST 6) / Raise Cain (POST 10) in Race 8, Federal Exchange (POST 8) / Ellinger (POST 5) in Race 9. This covers 12 combinations and provides legitimate longshot upside if Hunt Master (POST 5) or Raise Cain (POST 10) wins Race 8 at 4-1.

Race 3 exotics angle: In the 15-horse maiden turf claimer, a $1 trifecta box of Starmetal (POST 5) / Both Sides Of Bad (POST 9) / Daw Samaa (POST 11) / Rum Rock (POST 4) using any three of the four costs $24 and provides solid coverage for a potential triple-digit payout. Including a Lynch runner — Read The Meter (POST 2) at 15-1 — in a partial wheel adds value.

Best single-race bet of the day: Amberia (POST 6) in Race 5 at 5-1 (morning line). Motion's horses are always dangerous, the post is ideal, and Hernandez is the right rider. At 5-1 this is a legitimate overlay in a field where two co-favorites at 2-1 are going to compress the pool.

Watch the tote board in Race 6 for the Ness double entry. Any significant steam toward Majestic Tiger (POST 5) over Concealed Carry (POST 9) should be treated as a meaningful signal from the barn.
