Fairmount Park — Race Day Overview: Saturday, August 1, 2026

Fairmount Park returns to action on a Saturday afternoon card featuring twelve races across a range of conditions, from maiden claimers at the bottom of the ladder all the way up to a $38,000 maiden special weight to close the card. The meet at Collinsville, Illinois continues to draw a competitive mix of Midwest-based stock, and today's twelve-race card offers multiple opportunities across claiming, optional claiming, and maiden company. The headliner of the afternoon is the finale, Race 8, a maiden special weight at 1320 furlongs on dirt for a $38,000 purse — the richest event of the day and the one most likely to feature horses with future upside. The optional claiming events in Races 4, 5, and 6 carry the most class depth on the card, with purses ranging from $19,000 to $39,500. The Whitney Stakes buzz circling Saratoga adds a national backdrop to what is otherwise a regional Saturday card, but Fairmount's regulars will be focused squarely on the eight-race opportunities in front of them. No major scratches have been reported ahead of first post.

Weather and Track Conditions

Fairmount Park sits in the American Bottom region of southwestern Illinois, near the Missouri border, and early August weather here typically runs hot and humid. Forecasts for the Collinsville/St. Louis metro area on August 1, 2026, call for partly cloudy skies with high temperatures in the low-to-mid 90s Fahrenheit. Humidity levels will be elevated, typical of the region in midsummer. No significant precipitation is expected during racing hours, though isolated afternoon pop-up thunderstorms are always possible in this corridor during August. The main track is expected to be listed as fast at the time of first post. A fast, sealed main track at Fairmount tends to play to horses with early speed, especially in sprints.

Track Bias and Post Position Analysis

Fairmount Park is a five-eighths-mile oval with tight turns and a relatively short stretch. The track has a pronounced tendency to favor horses with early speed, particularly those that can settle in the two-path coming out of the first turn. On a fast track, front-runners and presser-types are rewarded significantly, and closers who are too far back at the half-mile pole face a difficult task navigating the tight second turn. Inside posts (1 through 3) carry a slight advantage in sprints when the pace is honest, as horses can save ground and establish a favorable stalking position. However, horses drawn very wide (posts 7 and above in fields of 10 or more) are not automatically disadvantaged if they have enough speed to cross over early. At today's 1320-furlong (roughly 6.6-furlong) sprint distance, which appears on nearly every race, the bias strongly favors horses that can reach the front or be within two lengths of the lead by the first turn. Closers at Fairmount Park tend to win only when a genuine speed duel collapses the front end. In large fields, the inside posts take on additional importance, as early position is at a premium heading into the first bend. Bettors should downgrade horses showing only late-running styles and elevate horses with early pace figures or a history of pressing the leader at Fairmount-style tracks.

RACE 1 — Post 2:30 — 1320f | D | M | Md 5000 | BUM | Purse $10,000

This is the lowest-level event on the card — a maiden claimer for $5,000 on the main track at six and a half furlongs. The field of nine features fillies and mares, many of whom have been bouncing around the maiden claiming ranks for some time. With a purse of just $10,000, the talent level is limited, making pace and connections carry extra weight in the analysis. Lolita J (POST 7), installed as the heavy 1-1 morning line favorite, commands immediate attention from the connections of trainer Elias Lopez and jockey Frank Reyes. Favorites at this level and at this track with trainer-jockey combinations that know the circuit tend to hold their price, and Lolita J (POST 7) projects as the most accomplished runner in what is a thin field.

Pace Analysis

The pace scenario in Race 1 sets up as a moderate-to-fast early pace affair. Several horses in this field have shown willingness to be forwardly placed in prior efforts. Spicy Cantaloupe (POST 5) and Wish Upon A Flame (POST 9) both figure to be factors early, and Lolita J (POST 7) has the natural ability to press or sit just off the leader. If Spicy Cantaloupe (POST 5) and Wish Upon A Flame (POST 9) hook up early, the pace could set up for a closer, but at this level, the early speed horses tend to lope along comfortably and hold. The 1-1 favorite Lolita J (POST 7) has the class edge and should not be asked to do too much early given her outside post.

Key Contenders

Lolita J (POST 7) is the clear key contender here, installed at 1-1 on the morning line with the most accomplished connections in the field. Trainer Elias Lopez has a solid win percentage at Fairmount Park, and Frank Reyes riding at post 7 means there is enough width to find a comfortable position without getting squeamish in traffic. At the 1-1 price, there is little overlay value, but her class edge in a $5,000 maiden claimer for fillies and mares makes her the one to beat. Wish Upon A Flame (POST 9) at 2-1 represents the second choice of the morning line. Trainer Marvel Straub is competent at this level, and jockey Ademar Santos has been one of the more active riders on the Fairmount circuit this season. Wish Upon A Flame (POST 9) will need to overcome the outside post in a field of nine, but if she gets a clean break, she has the tactical speed to secure a ground-saving position heading into the first turn.

Secondary Choices

Atraxa (POST 3) at 10-1 catches the eye as a potential overlaid runner. Trainer Dennis Higgins keeps a modest but active stable at Fairmount, and Alexander Bendezu in the irons provides a legitimate riding upgrade. The post 3 draw is favorable for a sprint on this track, allowing Atraxa (POST 3) to find a spot just off the early pace without expending excessive energy. Spicy Cantaloupe (POST 5) at 8-1 for trainer Harry Lynch and jockey Victor Lara is another who may find herself in a comfortable stalking spot through the first turn. Lynch is a regular in the Fairmount claiming ranks and knows which spots suit his horses.

Longshots

O'hara At Dawn (POST 1) at 30-1 for trainer Mike Durham and jockey J.E. Felix is difficult to recommend at any level, though the inside post is a natural advantage in a sprint. Wave Of Memories (POST 2) at 20-1 for trainer Jose G. Rodriguez and Emmanuel Giles projects as a deep closer who will struggle on a bias that favors early speed. Cupie Cutie (POST 4) at 20-1 for trainer Fernando Bahena and jockey Javier Tavares offers little in the form figures to suggest a competitive effort. Lady Artist (POST 6) at 30-1 for trainer Amy Nesbitt and Alvin Ortiz is a longshot with little to recommend at this price. Holly Springs (POST 8) at 30-1 for trainer Mark W. Anderson and Javour M. Simpson is buried in the morning line and lacks the credentials to upset here.

Betting Strategy

This is a race to key the chalk. Lolita J (POST 7) is the single most likely winner on the card at this level, and while 1-1 offers no win bet value, the race is worth targeting in exactas by using Lolita J (POST 7) on top with Wish Upon A Flame (POST 9) and Atraxa (POST 3) underneath. The $1 exacta box of Lolita J (POST 7) / Wish Upon A Flame (POST 9) / Atraxa (POST 3) is the recommended exotic play.

Selections

Win: Lolita J (POST 7) Place: Wish Upon A Flame (POST 9) Show: Atraxa (POST 3)

RACE 2 — Post 2:55 — 1210f | D | C | Clm 6250n1y | BUM | Purse $12,500

Race 2 is a claiming race at $6,250 restricted to horses that have not won within the last year, run over an abbreviated 1210-furlong diStance (approximately 6 furlongs). The field of eight fillies and mares presents a tighter contest than Race 1, with two co-favorites on the morning line at 2-1 in Ghaaleb's City (POST 2) and Smooth Claret (POST 4). The n1y condition (no win in one year) suggests the field is comprised largely of horses returning to form or coming off difficult stretches, making trainer and jockey connections particularly important.

Pace Analysis

The early pace in Race 2 figures to be contested. Ghaaleb's City (POST 2) and Sharp Attack (POST 3) both project as early speed horses who could be within striking distance of the lead at the first call. Smooth Claret (POST 4) with Frank Reyes aboard may elect to stalk just off the pace, which could be the ideal positioning in a race where two or more speed horses could soften each other up. The 1210-furlong distance is a true six-furlong sprint, and Fairmount's bias favors horses in the two or three path who can save ground efficiently.

Key Contenders

Ghaaleb's City (POST 2) at 2-1 draws the pivotal post 2 inside the speed horses and should be forwardly placed from the start. Trainer Scott Becker is one of the most prominent names on the Fairmount condition book, maintaining a strong stable and consistently placing horses in spots they can handle. Alexander Bendezu in the irons is the standout jockey on today's card and has been lighting up the Fairmount leaderboard this meet. The combination of post, connections, and pace profile makes Ghaaleb's City (POST 2) the slight lean over the other co-favorite. Smooth Claret (POST 4) at 2-1 for trainer Joel Martinez and Frank Reyes offers a clean stalking trip from post 4. Reyes has shown a strong affinity for the Fairmount circuit and typically puts horses in the right position in the early going. With the n1y condition in play, class questions linger for both co-favorites, but Smooth Claret (POST 4) should be in the mix at every call.

Secondary Choices

Sharp Attack (POST 3) at 4-1 for trainer Hugo Rodriguez and Luis H. Colon represents solid value if Ghaaleb's City (POST 2) and Smooth Claret (POST 4) soften each other up. Post 3 is excellent for this sprint distance, and Colon is a capable Fairmount hand who will have Sharp Attack (POST 3) in a ground-saving position from the gate. Lily's Woofy (POST 1) at 5-1 for trainer Ralph A. Martinez and jockey Brody Martinez (a trainer-jockey family combination) holds the rail and could benefit enormously from a contested pace scenario. Trainer Ralph Martinez is among the busier outfits at Fairmount and knows how to spot horses at the right level.

Longshots

Bethy (POST 5) at 12-1 for trainer Frank C. Randazzo Jr. and Javier Tavares is a price horse who needs a pace meltdown to threaten. Frosted Eclair (POST 7) at 12-1 for trainer Ralph A. Martinez and J.E. Felix gives Martinez a second runner in the race, which can occasionally yield a barn stable switch angle worth noting, though Lily's Woofy (POST 1) appears to be the stable's intended winner. Visionista (POST 8) at 12-1 for trainer Eduardo Rodriguez and Johanis Aranguren has the worst post in a sprint and will need an excellent break to avoid a wide trip. Goodbye Indy (POST 6) at 30-1 for trainer Lori Plasters and Cory Orm is a rank outsider in this spot and would require a complete field collapse to factor.

Betting Strategy

The 2-1 co-favorites make this a challenging race for win bettors. The best approach is to use both Ghaaleb's City (POST 2) and Smooth Claret (POST 4) in exactas with Sharp Attack (POST 3) and Lily's Woofy (POST 1) underneath for a value-oriented approach. A $2 exacta wheel of Ghaaleb's City (POST 2) / Smooth Claret (POST 4) with Sharp Attack (POST 3) and Lily's Woofy (POST 1) underneath is the recommended play.

Selections

Win: Ghaaleb's City (POST 2) Place: Smooth Claret (POST 4) Show: Sharp Attack (POST 3)

RACE 3 — Post 3:20 — 1320f | D | C | Clm 5000n2l | BUN | Purse $10,200

Race 3 brings a $5,000 claiming event restricted to horses with no more than two lifetime wins, run around one turn at 1320 furlongs. The seven-horse field is a manageable size, and the n2l condition (no more than two lifetime wins) means the competition is relatively even in terms of overall achievement. Tower Grove Park (POST 2) is the 2-1 morning line favorite under the powerful Becker-Bendezu combination, while Man Of Quality (POST 5) at 3-1 and Hunts Promise (POST 6) at 3-1 share co-second billing. This is an evenly contested race with genuine pace questions.

Pace Analysis

Tower Grove Park (POST 2) from the inside figures to be one of the speed horses in this race and will attempt to dictate from the front with Bendezu steering. Man Of Quality (POST 5) for trainer Dawn Martin and jockey Reynier Arrieta is likely a pressing type, as is Hunts Promise (POST 6) for Harry Lynch and Victor Lara. Regained Power (POST 4) at 4-1 could also be forwardly placed early. If multiple speed horses hook up through the opening panels, the pace could collapse the front end and set up Last Moon (POST 7) or Tigersaurus Rex (POST 3) as late runners.

Key Contenders

Tower Grove Park (POST 2) at 2-1 is the morning line choice, and the Becker-Bendezu partnership is producing results throughout today's card. Post 2 is ideal for a front-running or pressing type at this sprint distance, and Bendezu should have Tower Grove Park (POST 2) in perfect position by the time the field hits the first turn. Man Of Quality (POST 5) at 3-1 for trainer Dawn Martin and Reynier Arrieta is a legitimate threat at a price that represents mild overlay over the favorite. Martin is a capable conditioner at the regional level, and Arrieta is an effective jockey who can put horses in winning positions. Post 5 requires a good break to avoid getting shuffled back early, but if Man Of Quality (POST 5) breaks cleanly, he should be within striking distance of the lead throughout.

Secondary Choices

Hunts Promise (POST 6) at 3-1 for trainer Harry Lynch and Victor Lara shares the co-second billing and is the likely danger horse in the race. Lynch's track knowledge and Lara's ability to rate a horse will be key factors. Regained Power (POST 4) at 4-1 for trainer Eduardo Rodriguez and Johanis Aranguren has a middle post that allows for tactical flexibility. Rodriguez runs a busy Fairmount outfit and placing horses in appropriate spots is a strength. Last Moon (POST 7) at 5-1 for trainer Eduardo Rodriguez and J.E. Felix gives Rodriguez two entries in the race. As the outside runner, Last Moon (POST 7) may benefit if the pace heats up and closers are rewarded late.

Longshots

Tigersaurus Rex (POST 3) at 10-1 for trainer Mike Durham and Ademar Santos is an intriguing price horse. The post 3 draw is favorable, and Santos has shown competence on the Fairmount circuit. If Tigersaurus Rex (POST 3) can find a comfortable stalking spot, the 10-1 morning line price is worth a small investment. Sneaky Feet (POST 1) at 30-1 for trainer Fernando Bahena and Emmanuel Giles is a significant longshot with little realistic chance but will benefit from the inside post in a front-running scenario.

Betting Strategy

Tower Grove Park (POST 2) is a solid single here given the favorable post and elite rider combination. Use Tower Grove Park (POST 2) on top in exactas with Man Of Quality (POST 5), Hunts Promise (POST 6), and Regained Power (POST 4) underneath. The 10-1 morning line price on Tigersaurus Rex (POST 3) makes a small exacta play worthwhile underneath the top selections.

Selections

Win: Tower Grove Park (POST 2) Place: Man Of Quality (POST 5) Show: Hunts Promise (POST 6)

RACE 4 — Post 3:45 — 1320f | D | AO | OClm 20000n3l | BUN | Purse $39,500

The richest dirt sprint of the afternoon at $39,500 and the first optional claiming event of the card, Race 4 is restricted to horses with no more than three lifetime wins and carries a $20,000 claiming tag for those who want to enter at that level. The co-favorites are Fiveo'clockcharlie (POST 3) and Wayllen Richard (POST 8) at 2-1 each, with Baby I'm Hammered (POST 4) and Coolthing (POST 5) at 6-1, and Dream Gold (POST 1) and Stance (POST 2) at 8-1 rounding out the contender tier. This is the most competitive race of the early portion of the card.

Pace Analysis

With Fiveo'clockcharlie (POST 3) and Wayllen Richard (POST 8) both installed at 2-1 and presumably drawing interest as pace-setters or early forwardly-placed runners, the early fractions figure to be honest. Baby I'm Hammered (POST 4) from post 4 could also be forwardly placed with Reynier Arrieta, who rides aggressively. If multiple horses contest the pace early, the door opens for Coolthing (POST 5) or Dream Gold (POST 1) to close from a stalking position. Post 8 is a potential concern for Wayllen Richard (POST 8), who will need to find the pace from the extreme outside.

Key Contenders

Fiveo'clockcharlie (POST 3) at 2-1 for trainer James M. Watkins and Ademar Santos draws the ideal post in a sprint of this nature. Post 3 allows the horse to save ground heading into the first turn, and Santos is more than capable of finding the right spot off the lead. Watkins runs a credible Fairmount operation and at the $39,500 purse level, these horses tend to be better prepared. Wayllen Richard (POST 8) at 2-1 for trainer Hugo Rodriguez and Alexander Bendezu is the other half of the early betting. Bendezu's presence commands respect regardless of post position, and Wayllen Richard (POST 8) must overcome the outside draw but has the talent to compensate. Rodriguez's stable has been active at Fairmount, and the trainer clearly believes Wayllen Richard (POST 8) belongs in this spot.

Secondary Choices

Baby I'm Hammered (POST 4) at 6-1 for trainer Edward Essenpreis and Reynier Arrieta represents legitimate value at a price that may be slightly generous given the moderate class of the spot. Post 4 is serviceable in a sprint, and Arrieta is capable of rating a horse to track the pace from a comfortable position. Coolthing (POST 5) at 6-1 for trainer Harry Lynch and Victor Lara is another value runner. Lynch's veteran track presence and Lara's ability to ride a pace-stalking trip could pay dividends at 6-1 in an optional claimer of this nature.

Longshots

Dream Gold (POST 1) at 8-1 for trainer Steve Fridley and Cory Orm has the coveted inside post and could find the rail heading into the first turn. Stance (POST 2) at 8-1 for trainer John Wainwright and J.E. Felix also has a favorable draw and the connections necessary to compete. Wainwright runs a disciplined operation and Stance (POST 2) at 8-1 merits at least minor consideration in the exotics. Steve (POST 6) at 20-1 for trainer Marvel Straub and Javier Tavares is a significant overlay against the favorites, though the price reflects the realistic gap in ability. Span (POST 7) at 30-1 for trainer Tony Blea Jr. and Harold Joseph Ortega is a rank outsider here.

Betting Strategy

This is the primary race to invest in on the card given the purse size and the legitimate exacta/trifecta possibilities. Key Fiveo'clockcharlie (POST 3) with Wayllen Richard (POST 8), Baby I'm Hammered (POST 4), and Coolthing (POST 5) in trifectas. The $0.50 trifecta with Fiveo'clockcharlie (POST 3) on top, and the three secondary selections in various orders underneath is recommended.

Selections

Win: Fiveo'clockcharlie (POST 3) Place: Wayllen Richard (POST 8) Show: Baby I'm Hammered (POST 4)

RACE 5 — Post 4:10 — 1320f | D | AO | OClm 10000n1x | BUM | Purse $19,000

Race 5 is an optional claiming event at $10,000 restricted to horses with no more than one win lifetime (the “x” restriction in the condition book), run at 1320 furlongs for fillies and mares. The nine-horse field is topped by Smoked (POST 1) at 2-1 as the morning line favorite for the powerful combination of trainer Larry Rivelli and jockey J.E. Felix. Global Tour (POST 6) at 3-1 is the second choice on the morning line for trainer James M. Watkins and Johanis Aranguren.

Pace Analysis

Smoked (POST 1) from the inside post is likely to establish early position with Felix aboard, as the Rivelli barn is known for training horses that are in top condition. Global Tour (POST 6) at 3-1 figures to be forwardly placed as well, creating a potential speed duel for the lead. Chance Taker (POST 8) at 6-1 for trainer Scott Becker and Bendezu could stalk from just off the pace and be dangerous in the final quarter mile. Looks Lucky To Me (POST 3) at 6-1 could press early as well. If Smoked (POST 1) and Global Tour (POST 6) hook up in a duel, the door opens for a closer.

Key Contenders

Smoked (POST 1) at 2-1 is the standout morning line choice. Larry Rivelli is a well-regarded trainer in the Illinois and Midwest circuit with a consistent win percentage. He is known for placing horses exactly where they belong on the condition book, and if he has Smoked (POST 1) in at this level, the horse is likely ready to run its best effort. J.E. Felix on the inside post is an ideal combination for a horse that projects as a speed or stalking type. Global Tour (POST 6) at 3-1 for Watkins and Aranguren represents the most likely upset candidate. Post 6 in a field of nine is manageable if the horse breaks well, and Aranguren has been competent on the circuit.

Secondary Choices

Chance Taker (POST 8) at 6-1 for trainer Scott Becker and Alexander Bendezu is an automatic secondary consideration whenever the Becker-Bendezu combination shows up on the card. Despite the outside post 8, Bendezu's ability to find early position cannot be dismissed. Looks Lucky To Me (POST 3) at 6-1 for trainer Ralph A. Martinez and Brody Martinez again presents the trainer-jockey family angle. Post 3 is excellent for a sprint, and the Martinez barn has multiple runners on the card today, suggesting the stable is in good form. Natalia's Rap (POST 7) at 8-1 for trainer Scott Becker and T. Wales gives Becker two entries in this spot, and occasionally the less-heralded Becker runner can outperform the more visible one.

Longshots

Stagflation (POST 2) at 10-1 for trainer Ralph A. Martinez and A.O. Stanley gives Martinez a third runner in this race, though the connections appear strongest on Looks Lucky To Me (POST 3). Betty Pack (POST 4) at 15-1 for trainer James M. Watkins and Ademar Santos provides Watkins a second entry alongside Global Tour (POST 6). When trainers double up, it can signal confidence or uncertainty — here the main money appears on Global Tour (POST 6). Raceday Attire (POST 5) at 12-1 for trainer Ruben Cruz Jr. and Javier Tavares is a difficult puzzle at this price. Wampus Kitten (POST 9) at 15-1 for trainer Hugo Rodriguez and Luis H. Colon is buried on the outside of a nine-horse field and needs a pace meltdown to threaten.

Betting Strategy

Smoked (POST 1) is a strong single for multi-race wagers. Key Smoked (POST 1) with Global Tour (POST 6) and Chance Taker (POST 8) in exactas. For trifectas, use Smoked (POST 1) on top with Global Tour (POST 6), Chance Taker (POST 8), and Looks Lucky To Me (POST 3) rotating in second and third.

Selections

Win: Smoked (POST 1) Place: Global Tour (POST 6) Show: Chance Taker (POST 8)

RACE 6 — Post 4:35 — 1320f | D | AO | OClm 10000n1x | BUN | Purse $19,000

Race 6 mirrors Race 5 in conditions — an optional claiming event at $10,000 for horses with no more than one lifetime win — but this version is restricted to males (BUN designation) and draws a larger field of ten runners. The co-favorites are Handsome Herb (POST 3) and Chryso Alogo (POST 4) at 2-1 each, followed by El Peligro (POST 7) and Excellent Empire (POST 10) at 4-1. With a ten-horse field and a significant cluster of speed in the first half of the gate, the pace scenario is crucial.

Pace Analysis

Handsome Herb (POST 3) and Chryso Alogo (POST 4) are the two co-favorites, and both draw ideal posts for this sprint distance. If they engage in a head-to-head pace duel, the outcome could favor a closer or a horse that settles off the early heat. El Peligro (POST 7) at 4-1 for trainer Dennis Higgins and Ademar Santos could be a pace-stalker that benefits if the speed horses wear each other down. Excellent Empire (POST 10) at 4-1 for trainer Ralph A. Martinez and Brody Martinez has the widest post in the race and will need to find early position to overcome the draw disadvantage.

Key Contenders

Handsome Herb (POST 3) at 2-1 for trainer Armando Hernandez and Frank Reyes brings the right combination of post position and jockey for an early speed horse in this spot. Reyes aboard a 2-1 favorite at post 3 is a formidable combination, and if Handsome Herb (POST 3) can establish early fractions without being challenged, he could go wire-to-wire. Chryso Alogo (POST 4) at 2-1 for trainer James M. Watkins and Alexander Bendezu is the other half of the early betting, and the Watkins-Bendezu pairing is one of the most reliable on today's card. Post 4 is excellent, and if Chryso Alogo (POST 4) runs to his morning line billing, he should be pressing the pace or at it by the first call.

Secondary Choices

El Peligro (POST 7) at 4-1 for trainer Dennis Higgins and Ademar Santos is the most interesting secondary choice in the race. Higgins is comfortable placing horses at this level, and Santos is capable of finding a pace-stalking trip if the two co-favorites decide to test each other in the early going. Excellent Empire (POST 10) at 4-1 for trainer Ralph A. Martinez and Brody Martinez needs to overcome the wide post but has the class credentials that the Martinez barn typically provides. At 4-1 from post 10, Excellent Empire (POST 10) is a dangerous player in the exotics. Strope (POST 9) at 12-1 for trainer John Wainwright and Javier Diego is a potential value player from post 9, a difficult draw, but the Wainwright barn has shown the ability to win with horses starting from outside posts.

Longshots

Maqamat (POST 8) at 15-1 for trainer Lori Plasters and Cory Orm is a price horse who could find a pace-stalking trip if the field strings out. Red Speedo (POST 1) at 30-1 for trainer Harry Lynch and Victor Lara draws the inside post but the morning line price suggests limited ability at this level. Weslan (POST 2) at 30-1 for trainer John Wainwright and J.E. Felix gives Wainwright a second runner, though the 30-1 price is telling. Seminole Beach (POST 5) at 30-1 for trainer Tony Blea Jr. and R. Jaime is a rank outsider. Midnite Alex (POST 6) at 30-1 for trainer Jose G. Rodriguez and Harold Joseph Ortega requires the favorites to collapse completely before becoming relevant.

Betting Strategy

This is an excellent trifecta race. Key Handsome Herb (POST 3) and Chryso Alogo (POST 4) in the first two legs of the trifecta with El Peligro (POST 7) and Excellent Empire (POST 10) in third. The $0.50 trifecta box of Handsome Herb (POST 3), Chryso Alogo (POST 4), and El Peligro (POST 7) is the primary recommendation, with Excellent Empire (POST 10) added as a fourth runner at minimal cost.

Selections

Win: Chryso Alogo (POST 4) Place: Handsome Herb (POST 3) Show: El Peligro (POST 7)

RACE 7 — Post 5:00 — 1320f | D | C | Clm 5000n2l | BUM | Purse $10,200

Race 7 returns to the lower claiming ranks at $5,000, this time for fillies and mares with no more than two lifetime wins. The eleven-horse field is the largest on the card and sets up as a wide-open race despite Girls Knicks Now (POST 2) and Fasttimesatmidnite (POST 6) sharing 2-1 co-favorite billing. The Becker-Bendezu combination appears again on Fasttimesatmidnite (POST 6), making it a race where the handicapper's main task is finding value against the expected short prices.

Pace Analysis

With eleven runners in a sprint at 1320 furlongs, the pace figures to be contested. Girls Knicks Now (POST 2) from an inside post will push for position early, and Fasttimesatmidnite (POST 6) will be forwardly placed given trainer Scott Becker's preference for horses that engage early. Wildwood Overtime (POST 11) at 3-1 for Becker and Victor Santiago is the most intriguing pace scenario horse — at post 11, she will need to use some early energy to cross over, which could either leave her slightly outrun early or settled in a comfortable spot by the half-mile marker. A contested pace featuring two or more co-favorites setting the fractions opens the door for midpackers and closers.

Key Contenders

Fasttimesatmidnite (POST 6) at 2-1 is the co-favorite with the Becker-Bendezu combination, the most powerful trainer-jockey pairing on today's card. Post 6 in an eleven-horse field is workable in a sprint, and Bendezu will find the right spot. Girls Knicks Now (POST 2) at 2-1 for trainer Charles Davis Jr. and Brody Martinez draws the more favorable post and could establish early position heading into the first turn. If Girls Knicks Now (POST 2) can take the lead uncontested, the inside post becomes a major advantage in a sprint at Fairmount. Wildwood Overtime (POST 11) at 3-1 for Becker and Santiago represents Becker's second runner in this race. The 3-1 morning line price on a horse starting from post 11 is notable — when a trainer puts his second runner at a tighter price from an outside post, it suggests genuine ability that can overcome the draw disadvantage.

Secondary Choices

Safecracker Sue (POST 1) at 10-1 for trainer Manny Perez and Victor Lara draws the inside post in a field of eleven and represents legitimate value if the field goes wide early. Post 1 at Fairmount in a large sprint field is a natural advantage for a horse with even modest early speed. Flathead Finale (POST 4) at 15-1 for trainer Ralph A. Martinez and Alvin Ortiz is another potential value play from a central post. Martinez has multiple runners on the card today and is clearly in good form.

Longshots

Madam Lee (POST 3) at 30-1 for trainer Rhonda Thurman and Javier Diego is a rank outsider despite the favorable post. Diva Las Vegas (POST 5) at 20-1 for trainer Terry Burdess and Cory Orm needs the favorites to fade badly. Green Grace (POST 7) at 30-1 for trainer Omar Razvi and Harold Joseph Ortega is priced accordingly. Cowgirl Frankie (POST 8) at 30-1 for trainer John Rednour Jr. and Javour M. Simpson is a rank outsider. Jack's Yellow Rose (POST 9) at 30-1 for trainer Terry Burdess and A.O. Stanley is another significant longshot. D'ARGONAUT (POST 10) at 20-1 for trainer Eduardo Rodriguez and Johanis Aranguren has the difficult post 10 to overcome.

Betting Strategy

This is a wide-open race best attacked through trifecta and superfecta wagering given the large field and multiple plausible outcomes. Key Fasttimesatmidnite (POST 6) and Girls Knicks Now (POST 2) in the first two positions of trifectas with Wildwood Overtime (POST 11) and Safecracker Sue (POST 1) in third. The $0.10 superfecta of the top four choices in various orders offers the best return potential in a race of this size.

RACE 8 — Post 5:25 — 1320f | D | S | Md Sp Wt | BUN | Purse $38,000

The card closes with the most prestigious race of the afternoon — a maiden special weight at $38,000 for males over 1320 furlongs on dirt. This is a significant step up from the claiming company that has dominated the earlier portion of the card. Eerie's Song (POST 5) is the 2-1 morning line favorite for the prolific Ralph A. Martinez barn and jockey Reynier Arrieta. Dang It Dan (POST 3) and Midwest Wildcat (POST 8) share 4-1 second billing for trainers Scott Becker and Steve Manley, respectively. The twelve-horse field is the largest of the card and includes several intriguing price horses.

Pace Analysis

A twelve-horse maiden special weight sprint on dirt at Fairmount figures to produce an honest pace. Eerie's Song (POST 5) from post 5 will be positioned in the middle of the pack by Arrieta, who is a disciplined pace reader. Dang It Dan (POST 3) for Becker and Bendezu will be forwardly placed from post 3, a natural position for this connection. Midwest Wildcat (POST 8) for Manley and Santos draws a middle-outside post and could settle in a stalking position. I'm Thisty Kid (POST 7) at 5-1 for trainer Harry Lynch and Victor Lara could be another early speed factor, setting up a potential pace battle in the first three furlongs. The pace scenario in maiden company is inherently difficult to predict, but the Fairmount bias toward early speed remains applicable.

Key Contenders

Eerie's Song (POST 5) at 2-1 for trainer Ralph A. Martinez and Reynier Arrieta heads the morning line in the richest sprint of the day. The Martinez barn has been exceptionally busy today, and the stable's presence across multiple races suggests a stable in peak form. Post 5 in a twelve-horse field allows Arrieta to assess the pace in the early going and find the right spot. In maiden special weight company, the trainer's ability to have a first-time-out or lightly-raced horse ready to run is paramount, and Martinez has demonstrated this skill at Fairmount. Dang It Dan (POST 3) at 4-1 for trainer Scott Becker and Alexander Bendezu is the strongest opposition from a connections standpoint. Becker and Bendezu have been the dominant trainer-jockey pairing on today's card, and Dang It Dan (POST 3) from post 3 is the ideal spot for a speed or pressing type in a twelve-horse sprint.

Secondary Choices

Midwest Wildcat (POST 8) at 4-1 for trainer Steve Manley and Ademar Santos shares co-second billing and adds intrigue as a horse from outside the circuit's typical barns. Manley is not as prominent as Becker or Martinez at Fairmount, which makes Midwest Wildcat (POST 8) an overlay candidate if the connection is in peak form. Santos is a reliable jockey who has been effective throughout the card. I'm Thisty Kid (POST 7) at 5-1 for trainer Harry Lynch and Victor Lara represents value in a field where the top prices could be squeezed by the sheer number of co-favorites. Lynch knows this track well and will have THISTY KID (POST 7) forwardly placed from post 7. Lies N Deception (POST 2) at 8-1 for trainer Gabe Retana and Cory Orm draws post 2, an enviable position in a large sprint field. If Lies N Deception (POST 2) has the natural ability to match the opening fractions of the field's better horses, the post 2 draw becomes a major weapon.

Longshots

Hang Tuff (POST 12) at 10-1 for trainer Robert Pompell and Brody Martinez is the widest post in the race, but maiden races sometimes produce unexpected results from horses with explosive late figures. Delong Shot (POST 1) at 12-1 for trainer Ben Delong and Javier Diego draws the rail in a twelve-horse field and is worth a small exotic investment for the post advantage alone. Road Man (POST 10) at 15-1 for trainer Frank J. Kirby and J.E. Felix represents a value angle given Felix's day-long activity across the card. Big Skookum (POST 6) at 30-1 for trainer Clay Laux and Alvin Ortiz is a distant price. Lord Block (POST 4) at 30-1 for trainer Omar Razvi and Harold Joseph Ortega is another rank outsider. Midnight Master (POST 9) at 30-1 for trainer Fernando Bahena and Javier Tavares is buried in the morning line. Warshin Machine (POST 11) at 30-1 for trainer John Rednour Jr. and Javour M. Simpson faces a steep challenge from an outside post.

Betting Strategy

This is the race of the day for significant investment. Key Eerie's Song (POST 5) and Dang It Dan (POST 3) in exactas with Midwest Wildcat (POST 8), I'm Thisty Kid (POST 7), and Lies N Deception (POST 2). For trifectas, use Eerie's Song (POST 5) and Dang It Dan (POST 3) in the first two slots with the secondary horses in third. The $0.50 trifecta wheel of Eerie's Song (POST 5) / Dang It Dan (POST 3) / Midwest Wildcat (POST 8), I'm Thisty Kid (POST 7), Lies N Deception (POST 2) is the recommended approach.

Jockey Notes and Insights

Alexander Bendezu is the standout jockey of the day at Fairmount Park. He rides in Races 1, 2, 3, 4, 6, 7, 8, and additional spots throughout the card, giving him a dominant book of business. His connections to trainer Scott Becker in multiple races — Ghaaleb's City (POST 2) in Race 2, Tower Grove Park (POST 2) in Race 3, Wayllen Richard (POST 8) in Race 4, Chance Taker (POST 8) in Race 5, Chryso Alogo (POST 4) in Race 6, Fasttimesatmidnite (POST 6) in Race 7, and Dang It Dan (POST 3) in Race 8 — make the Becker-Bendezu tandem the most important combination to track throughout the afternoon. Bendezu's ability to find early position from a variety of post positions is his greatest asset on a track that rewards horses who establish early framing.

Reynier Arrieta is a capable secondary rider who draws mounts across the card for multiple trainers, including Baby I'm Hammered (POST 4) in Race 4, Man Of Quality (POST 5) in Race 3, and the important Race 8 mount on morning line favorite Eerie's Song (POST 5). Arrieta tends to ride aggressively in the early stages of sprints, which suits Fairmount's bias perfectly.

Ademar Santos rides consistently throughout the card on horses for trainer James M. Watkins and others, including Fiveo'clockcharlie (POST 3) in Race 4, El Peligro (POST 7) in Race 6, and Midwest Wildcat (POST 8) in Race 8. Santos is a reliable jockey who rarely wastes energy in the early going and tends to produce horses with something left in the tank for the final stages.

Frank Reyes is another productive rider whose mounts include Smooth Claret (POST 4) in Race 2 and Handsome Herb (POST 3) in Race 6. Reyes knows the Fairmount circuit well and consistently finds the two-path in sprints, which suits the track bias.

Victor Lara rides primarily for trainer Harry Lynch throughout the card, including Red Speedo (POST 1) in Race 6, Hunts Promise (POST 6) in Race 3, Coolthing (POST 5) in Race 4, and I'm Thisty Kid (POST 7) in Race 8. Lara and Lynch are a productive combination at this level, and anytime Lynch ships a horse in for a sprint at Fairmount with Lara up, it warrants attention.

J.E. Felix is one of the busiest riders on the card, appearing in nearly every race. His most notable mounts are Smoked (POST 1) in Race 5 for Larry Rivelli — who may be the best connection Felix has today — and Road Man (POST 10) in Race 8. The volume of mounts Felix carries today suggests he has strong ties to multiple stables at Fairmount.

Trainer Notes and Insights

Scott Becker is the dominant trainer at Fairmount Park on this card, saddling runners across virtually every race. His barn includes Ghaaleb's City (POST 2) in Race 2, Tower Grove Park (POST 2) in Race 3, Chance Taker (POST 8) and Natalia's Rap (POST 7) in Race 5, Fasttimesatmidnite (POST 6) and Wildwood Overtime (POST 11) in Race 7, and Dang It Dan (POST 3) in Race 8. When a trainer saddles this many horses on a single card at a regional track, the stable is clearly at peak form and horses are being placed correctly. The Becker-Bendezu combination in particular should be followed throughout the day.

Ralph A. Martinez is the second busiest trainer on today's card, with runners including Lily's Woofy (POST 1) and Frosted Eclair (POST 7) in Race 2, Stagflation (POST 2) and Looks Lucky To Me (POST 3) in Race 5, Excellent Empire (POST 10) in Race 6, Flathead Finale (POST 4) in Race 7, and Eerie's Song (POST 5) in Race 8. Martinez's volume today rivals Becker's, and the morning line suggests Eerie's Song (POST 5) is the stable's best chance for a significant victory.

James M. Watkins runs multiple horses on the card, including Fiveo'clockcharlie (POST 3) in Race 4, Betty Pack (POST 4) and Global Tour (POST 6) in Race 5, and Chryso Alogo (POST 4) in Race 6. Watkins has the co-favorite in Race 4 with Fiveo'clockcharlie (POST 3), which suggests a well-prepared horse in what is the highest-purse dirt sprint of the afternoon.

Harry Lynch fields horses across the card with Victor Lara riding most of his starters. The Lynch-Lara combination appears in Race 1 (SPICY CANTALOUPE POST 5), Race 3 (HUNTS PROMISE POST 6), Race 4 (COOLTHING POST 5), Race 6 (RED SPEEDO POST 1), and Race 8 (I'M THISTY KID POST 7). Lynch is a veteran of the Illinois circuit and consistently places horses at appropriate claiming levels.

Eduardo Rodriguez runs a busy outfit with Regained Power (POST 4) and Last Moon (POST 7) in Race 3, and D'ARGONAUT (POST 10) in Race 7. Having two runners in Race 3 gives Rodriguez tactical flexibility, and the morning line differentials suggest Regained Power (POST 4) is the primary runner.

Larry Rivelli's single entry, Smoked (POST 1) in Race 5, stands out. Rivelli is a respected trainer at the Illinois circuit level, and when he enters a horse at a regional track like Fairmount, the horse is generally well-prepared. Smoked (POST 1) at 2-1 for Rivelli and Felix is a banker single worth leaning on in multi-race sequences.

Best Wagering Strategies and Value Plays

The daily double connecting Race 7 and Race 8 represents the best value opportunity on the card. Using Fasttimesatmidnite (POST 6) and Girls Knicks Now (POST 2) in Race 7 with Eerie's Song (POST 5) and Dang It Dan (POST 3) in Race 8 creates a four-ticket daily double for manageable investment. If Fasttimesatmidnite (POST 6) wins Race 7 and Eerie's Song (POST 5) closes the card, the combination should return a fair price given the multiple co-favorites and large fields.

For the Pick 4 connecting Races 5 through 8, the structure is as follows: Smoked (POST 1) single in Race 5 / Chryso Alogo (POST 4) and Handsome Herb (POST 3) in Race 6 / Fasttimesatmidnite (POST 6) and Girls Knicks Now (POST 2) in Race 7 / Eerie's Song (POST 5) and Dang It Dan (POST 3) in Race 8. This creates a 1x2x2x2 structure with eight total tickets at $0.50 each, for a total investment of $4.00. The potential payoff given the co-favorites and large fields in Races 7 and 8 should generate a meaningful return if two or more secondary choices land.

The single best win bet value of the card is Eerie's Song (POST 5) in Race 8. At 2-1 in a maiden special weight race with a sharp trainer and capable jockey, Eerie's Song (POST 5) offers the combination of class edge and connections that defines a bankable win bet.

The best overlay on the card is Chance Taker (POST 8) at 6-1 in Race 5. The Becker-Bendezu combination rarely underperforms, and the 6-1 morning line price for a trainer of Becker's caliber pairing with Bendezu in an optional claimer represents a mispriced morning line.

For Race 4, the $39,500 purse makes trifecta and superfecta investment worthwhile. The structure of Fiveo'clockcharlie (POST 3) and Wayllen Richard (POST 8) with Baby I'm Hammered (POST 4), Coolthing (POST 5), Dream Gold (POST 1), and Stance (POST 2) underneath creates attractive trifecta payoffs given the variety of the morning line prices.

In Race 7, the $0.10 superfecta of Fasttimesatmidnite (POST 6), Girls Knicks Now (POST 2), Wildwood Overtime (POST 11), and Safecracker Sue (POST 1) in a partial wheel is recommended. Eleven-horse fields in claiming sprints at regional tracks frequently produce superfecta payoffs in the triple and quadruple digit range, and the modest investment required at $0.10 makes it worthwhile.

The day's best single exotic bet is the $1 exacta box of Eerie's Song (POST 5) and Dang It Dan (POST 3) in Race 8, which should return a fair price given both horses are installed between 2-1 and 4-1 and come from reliable connections capable of upsetting each other.
