Finger Lakes Race Day Overview — August 26, 2026

Finger Lakes Racetrack in Farmington, New York opens its Wednesday card with ten races spanning a variety of conditions, from maiden special weight sprints on the synthetic Tapeta surface to claiming routes on the dirt. The card offers a solid cross-section of the upstate New York circuit's best available stock, with purse values ranging from $13,700 in the lower-level claiming events to $32,600 in the maiden special weight sprint. Eight of the ten races are contested on the main dirt track, with Race 6 shifting to the synthetic surface, providing an important distinction for bettors when evaluating form.

Notable on today's card is the volume of n1y (non-winners of one race in the last year) restrictions in the claiming ranks, which tends to produce competitive fields with horses at similar experience levels. Chris Englehart, one of the most active and consistent trainers on the Finger Lakes circuit, saddles horses in multiple races today, as does Paul Barrow, who has solid representation across the card. Weather and Track Conditions — August 26, 2026

August in the Finger Lakes region of western New York typically brings warm, humid conditions in late summer. Forecast models for Farmington, New York on August 26 show temperatures in the low-to-mid 80s Fahrenheit with partly cloudy skies through the afternoon. No significant precipitation is expected during racing hours, and winds are forecast out of the southwest at 8-12 mph — conditions that should not materially affect race times or surface maintenance.

The main dirt track at Finger Lakes is expected to be listed as fast for today's card, consistent with the recent run of dry late-summer weather in the region. Fast dirt conditions at Finger Lakes tend to favor horses with tactical speed and the ability to establish position early, particularly in sprints around one turn. Track Bias and Post Position Analysis

Finger Lakes is a tight one-mile oval with relatively short straights, and the main dirt track has shown tendencies this meet that are important for handicappers to understand. On fast dirt days, horses with early speed and the ability to secure a forward position have a measurable advantage, particularly in routes where the first turn comes up quickly after the start. Khali's Dream (POST 3) draws the attention of most handicappers as the morning-line co-favorite at 2-1. Trained by Chris Englehart, who is among the top percentage trainers working the Finger Lakes circuit at this level, this horse benefits from a live inside post in a sprint. Englehart has consistently demonstrated the ability to place horses correctly in the claiming ranks, and when he sends a horse out at 2-1 in a race like this, it commands respect. Jockey Andre Shivnarine Worrie picks up the mount and brings strong recent form at this meet. The combination of Englehart's conditioning and Worrie's tactical intelligence in a short sprint makes Khali's Dream (POST 3) the horse to beat.

Charging Aero (POST 5) shares the 2-1 morning-line favoritism and is trained by Rafael Jose Rohena, who is active on this circuit. Post 5 in a seven-horse sprint at Finger Lakes is workable, and Charging Aero (POST 5) will need jockey Joel Cruz to establish position efficiently out of the gate. Cruz is a capable hand at this level, and if Charging Aero (POST 5) gets a clear trip, the horse has every right to compete at the top of the market.

Breaking Stones (POST 7) at 3-1 is trained by Paul Barrow, who has a strong presence on today's card. From the outside post in a seven-horse sprint, Jeremias Flores will need to either push for early position or surrender ground and hope for a pace meltdown. Barrow's horses are often fit and ready, and at 3-1, Breaking Stones (POST 7) represents solid value if the two co-favorites engage in a genuine duel.

Revivalism (POST 1) at 6-1 is trained by Jonathan B. Buckley, who also has PROPHETIC in Race 5 and BLUESETTE in Race 8. Buckley is a journeyman Finger Lakes trainer who finds spots well. The inside post in a sprint is tactically ideal, and Kevin Navarro is a capable pilot. Double Shot (POST 6) at 6-1 is trained by David Oyola and ridden by M.A. Davila Jr. This horse shares the same odds tier as Revivalism (POST 1) but must overcome a wide outside post in a sprint. Without a clean early break, Double Shot (POST 6) faces a difficult task.

Captainofmyheart (POST 2) at 15-1 is trained by Linda K. Dixon, who also has horses in Race 4 and Race 8. At this price, it is difficult to recommend Captainofmyheart (POST 2) without a compelling angle, and nothing in the morning line setup suggests one.

Jewels In The Bay (POST 4) at 15-1 is trained by Michael LeCesse with J.M. Rohena aboard. This horse is a significant morning-line longshot and has little to recommend at face value in this field.

The second race stretches out to a mile and a sixteenth on the main dirt track, again restricted to non-winners of a race in the last year at the $5,000 claiming level. This six-horse field offers a bit more separation in the morning-line odds, with two horses sharing the 2-1 favoritism and a legitimate 4-1 second choice. Route races at this level at Finger Lakes can be tricky to read because class is thin throughout, and pace collapses are common.

Pace Analysis

Eric From Miami (POST 1) and Street Cop Officer (POST 3) share the 2-1 morning line and both figure to show tactical speed. In a route at Finger Lakes, the inside post for Eric From Miami (POST 1) is a significant asset, particularly in a field of only six horses where traffic is less of an issue. If both horses press the early pace, Co Conspirator (POST 5) at 5-1 could benefit from a ground-saving stalking trip. The fractions in a mile and sixteenth at this level can be honest or slow depending on how aggressively the speed horses are asked to run in the first half mile.

Key Contenders

Eric From Miami (POST 1) is trained by Timothy P. Murphy, who has MORE VINO in Race 5 later in the card. The inside post at a mile and a sixteenth is a meaningful advantage at this track, and M.A. Davila Jr. is a regular presence in the Finger Lakes jockey standings. Street Cop Officer (POST 3) is trained by Eduardo Maver and ridden by Jacqueline A. Davis. Post 3 in a six-horse route is perfectly acceptable, and Davis has been active throughout this meet. At 5-1 with a stalking style that could benefit from a contested pace, Co Conspirator (POST 5) is the prime logical upset candidate.

Longshots

Whiskey Frens (POST 4) at 10-1 is trained by Rachel Sells, who also has CLASSIC CUT in Race 5 and FELIX'S FLOWER in Race 3. Sells is a recognizable name at Finger Lakes, and while Whiskey Frens (POST 4) is a significant price, the trainer's presence at multiple levels on the card today could indicate a horse being pointed for a specific spot.

Buck Wild (POST 6) at 8-1 is trained by Dewight J. Wadams and ridden by O. Gomez. The outside post in a six-horse route is the least desirable draw, and at 8-1, Buck Wild (POST 6) needs a perfect pace scenario to factor.

The third race moves up in class to the $11,000 claiming level restricted to non-winners of two races lifetime, and this is a fillies and mares contest at six furlongs on the main dirt track. The seven-horse field features Cinnamon Sugar (POST 4) as the morning-line favorite at 2-1, with Tahila (POST 1) at 3-1 and Montauk Mystique (POST 3) at 4-1 rounding out the top tier. The class step up from the Race 1 and Race 2 claimers makes for a more interesting handicapping exercise.

Pace Analysis

This sprint will likely see Cinnamon Sugar (POST 4) and Tahila (POST 1) as the primary early-pace factors, given their respective post positions and morning-line standings. Tahila (POST 1) from the rail can settle just off any early pace and be in a perfect stalking position. If Cinnamon Sugar (POST 4) is pushed to go fast early, the 4-1 shot Montauk Mystique (POST 3) has the pace scenario to make a sweeping move on the far turn. Fairweatherlover (POST 7) at 6-1 as the deepest closer in the field needs honest fractions to threaten.

Cinnamon Sugar (POST 4) at 2-1 is trained by Charlton Baker and ridden by Andre Shivnarine Worrie. Baker has a history of placing horses well at this level at Finger Lakes, and Cinnamon Sugar (POST 4) from post 4 in a seven-horse sprint is in a sound tactical position. The fourth race is a mile-and-a-sixteenth route for fillies and mares restricted to non-winners of one race in the last year at the $5,000 claiming level. This eight-horse field is one of the most competitive on the card in terms of parity, with Oh Mrs. Maisel (POST 3) heading the morning line at 2-1 and four horses bunched between 3-1 and 5-1. Routes for fillies and mares at this level at Finger Lakes can produce tactical early battles that set up closers nicely.

Pace Analysis

Oh Mrs. Maisel (POST 3) at 2-1 will likely be forwardly placed from a solid post position. Dorth's Sol Dancer (POST 5) at 3-1 may also factor early. Roshiell My Belle (POST 6) at 20-1 is trained by Aadil S. Khan with Steven Fret up. The morning-line price suggests limited credentials at this level.

Creme Caramel (POST 7) at 15-1 is trained by Marvin Richards with Laird O. Bailey aboard. A 15-1 morning-liner in a route at this level is a trifecta-only inclusion at best.

RACE 5 — Post (2:51)/1:51/12:51/11:51 — 1830f | D | C | Clm 11000b | BUN | Purse $18,100

Race 5 is the deepest field on today's card with eleven horses going a mile and an eighth on the main dirt track in a straight claiming event at the $11,000 level for male horses. This is not restricted to non-winners, which means some of these horses could have legitimate experience and recent form. The wide-open morning line — with Hey Toby (POST 3) and Classic Cut (POST 4) sharing the 4-1 favoritism, Ice Time (POST 5) at 5-1, and Prophetic (POST 8) at 6-1 — indicates the field is fairly matched. A full field at a mile and an eighth will require careful pace analysis.

Pace Analysis

In an eleven-horse field at a mile and an eighth, the early pace is unlikely to be slow. Rock Star Rebel (POST 1) at 8-1 will likely be forwardly placed from the inside post. Hey Toby (POST 3) and Classic Cut (POST 4) both figure to be involved early or in stalking positions. Ice Time (POST 5) and Prophetic (POST 8) may take up stalking or middle-of-the-pack trips. More Vino (POST 9), Solo's Fury (POST 7), Wild Banker (POST 11), and Mad Magic (POST 10) figure to be farther back. In a mile-and-an-eighth route with this many horses, the pace should be honest enough to give closers a legitimate chance, and the winner could come from a wide variety of running styles.

Hey Toby (POST 3) at 4-1 is trained by Gregory E. Charlerie and ridden by Andre Shivnarine Worrie, who has one of the busiest books on the card today. Post 3 in an eleven-horse mile-and-an-eighth route is excellent, allowing for a clean trip regardless of early pace development. Worrie's tactical ability in routes is one of his calling cards, and CHARLERIE is a consistent trainer at this level.

Classic Cut (POST 4) at 4-1 is trained by Rachel Sells and ridden by Jeremias Flores. Sells appears throughout today's card and has her horses properly conditioned. Classic Cut (POST 4) from post 4 in a big field should find a clear trip, and Flores is capable of managing pace in longer routes. This horse is a co-morning-line choice for a reason.

Secondary Choices

Ice Time (POST 5) at 5-1 is trained by Chris Englehart, who also has Khali's Dream (POST 3) in Race 1 and No Filter (POST 3) in Race 6. Englehart is the benchmark trainer at Finger Lakes in terms of win percentage, and his 5-1 morning-line horse in a straight claiming mile-and-an-eighth is a strong contender. J.M. Rohena gets the mount, and post 5 in an eleven-horse field is manageable.

Prophetic (POST 8) at 6-1 is trained by Jonathan B. Buckley and ridden by Kevin Navarro. Buckley has multiple horses today, and Prophetic (POST 8) from post 8 in a large field is a pure closer that needs a clear path in the stretch. At 6-1, this horse could pay well in exactas and trifectas if the pace collapses in front of the closers.

Longshots

Rock Star Rebel (POST 1) at 8-1 is trained by Michael Ferraro, who also has Mad Magic (POST 10) in this same race. The inside post in a mile-and-an-eighth is a potential speed position, and at 8-1, there is value if this horse gets loose on the lead. Ferraro doubling up in the same race is a worth-watching trainer angle.

Raw Courage (POST 2) at 10-1 is trained by Aadil S. Khan with Joel Cruz aboard. At double-digit odds in a field this size, Raw Courage (POST 2) is a deep trifecta inclusion.

October Bliss (POST 6) at 10-1 is trained by Nirka Huertas and ridden by O. Gomez. Outside post with double-digit morning-line odds makes this horse a long-shot inclusion only.

More Vino (POST 9) at 15-1 is trained by Timothy P. Murphy with O.K. Hernandez aboard. Murphy is active today, and at 15-1, More Vino (POST 9) is a superfecta target only.

Solo's Fury (POST 7) at 15-1 is trained by Katlynn Gutterson with Emanuel De Diego aboard. Another deep price in a crowded field.

Mad Magic (POST 10) at 12-1 is the Ferraro second string, ridden by Keiber J. Coa. The outside post in a large field is the primary obstacle. At 12-1, the Ferraro barn's second entry could surprise if the stable's primary runner ties up.

Wild Banker (POST 11) at 12-1 is trained by David Oyola with M.A. Davila Jr. aboard. From the outside post in an eleven-horse field, Wild Banker (POST 11) will need an extraordinary pace collapse to factor.

Betting Strategy: This is the most difficult race on the card to single, given the parity of the field. Use Hey Toby (POST 3) and Ice Time (POST 5) as a two-horse key in exactas with Classic Cut (POST 4) and Prophetic (POST 8) underneath. The Ferraro double entry angle is worth a small investment on Rock Star Rebel (POST 1) in wide trifectas. Avoid heavy singles in this race.

RACE 6 — Post (3:20)/2:20/1:20/12:20 — 1210f | D | S | Md Sp Wt | BUN | Purse $32,600

Race 6 shifts to the synthetic Tapeta surface for the highest-purse event on the card — a maiden special weight sprint at five and a half furlongs for males. This is also the most talent-forward race of the afternoon, as maiden special weight horses are generally better-bred and more promising than the n1y claimers that populate much of today's card. No Filter (POST 3) at 2-1 is the clear morning-line choice, with Romantic Charmer (POST 6) at 3-1 close behind.

Pace Analysis

In a nine-horse maiden field on the synthetic surface, pace development can be unpredictable because many of these horses may not have established running styles.
