Gulfstream Park — Race Day Overview: Friday, April 25, 2026

The Gulfstream Park spring meet rolls into its final stretch on Friday, April 24, with a nine-race card that offers a healthy mix of claiming, maiden, allowance, and optional claiming action across both the main track and the turf course. The card opens at 12:50 PM ET with a maiden-claiming sprint on the dirt and closes just after 5 PM with a two-turn dirt claimer on the main track. The feature races of the afternoon are the paired optional claimers in Races 6 and 7, each carrying a $71,000 purse — the turf mile and the dirt mile respectively — both carded as non-winner-of-two conditions at the $62,500 claiming level.

Worth noting on the trainer front: Gustavo Delgado is represented on the card in Race 1 with Alluring Serenity (2), and his high-profile barn remains in the spotlight this week as The Puma continues to draw strong pre-Derby attention following a noted bullet workout at Palm Meadows. Saffie Joseph Jr. fields runners in four races and enters the day as one of the more active conditioners at the meet. Mark Casse continues to work both ends of the card with quality horses, entering four runners across the nine-race program. Brad Cox makes a one-race appearance with The Town (7) in Race 8, a typically sharp move from the national barn when targeting a specific spot.

Weather and Track Conditions

South Florida in late April is in its shoulder season heading toward summer, and conditions on April 24 are forecast to be warm and mostly sunny with high temperatures near 84 degrees Fahrenheit. Humidity levels will be elevated as is typical for the Hallandale Beach area at this time of year. No significant rainfall is expected for Friday, with only minimal chance of isolated afternoon showers typical of the region.

The main track at Gulfstream Park is expected to be listed as fast, with the recent lack of rainfall keeping the surface firm and consistent. The Bermuda turf course is anticipated to be rated firm to good. Gulfstream's turf has held up well through the spring meet, and with no significant precipitation in the recent forecast window, it should remain in excellent condition for the two turf routes on the card in Races 6 and 8, plus the turf sprint in Race 4.

Track Bias and Post Position Analysis

Gulfstream Park's main track has displayed a pronounced speed-favoring bias throughout the 2026 spring meet. Horses that establish early position and secure the rail or a stalking spot on or near the fence have consistently held their advantage around the single turn in sprints. In two-turn routes on the dirt, pace scenario matters more, but horses with early foot and the ability to secure a clean trip from the inside posts have held a clear edge.

The turf course at Gulfstream at this time of year tends to play fairly honest, with closers able to get their run on the good-to-firm ground. In turf sprints, the outside posts can be a disadvantage early as horses have to cover extra ground to find position, but in routes, the additional distance largely neutralizes post position concerns. That said, horses working from posts one through four in turf routes tend to get the most economical trips.

In dirt sprints at one turn (Races 1 and 5), the early speed and inside posts are advantaged. In dirt routes (Races 3, 7, and 9), the two turn layout extends from the clubhouse turn, rewarding horses with tactical speed that can track in good position without burning energy early. For the turf events, horses with European-style closing kicks or proven form on firm turf will be respected, particularly in the two-turn formats.

RACE 1 — Post (12:50)/11:50/10:50/9:50 — 1320f | D | C | Clm 8000n2l | BUM | Purse $26,500

This is a one-mile dirt sprint restricted to fillies and mares that have not won two lifetime races, carded at the $8,000 claiming level. The purse of $26,500 is modest and the field of nine features a combination of chronic maiden-breaking types, recent maiden winners, and horses dropping in class in search of their second win. The n2l condition sorts out a competitive but beatable group.

Race 1

Pace Analysis

This race figures to be contested at a moderate-to-honest pace. Several horses in here have shown a tendency to show early speed, and the eight-horse field with a wide post draw could create some early jockeying for position. Alluring Serenity (2) from the Delgado barn has shown tactical speed in recent efforts and will likely be prominent. Valiant Honor (6) from the Saffie Joseph Jr. barn is also expected to contest for the early lead or sit close behind the pace. A mild pace duel between these two could set things up favorably for any horses tracking just off the early action.

Key Contenders

Alluring Serenity (2) is the horse to beat from the morning line co-favorite position at 2-1, and trainer Gustavo Delgado is in sharp form with his barn appearing active and well-aimed at this time of the meet. Miguel Angel Vasquez, who has been riding a solid book at Gulfstream this spring, has been on this horse previously and knows the filly well. She has shown consistent tactical positioning in her recent races and the seven-furlong trip appears to suit her running style. Dropping into a relatively modest claiming level suggests connections want this win secured, and Samy Camacho has the experience to manage a pace scenario from the two-post.

Valiant Honor (6) is the other morning line co-favorite at 2-1 and comes from the Saffie Joseph Jr. barn, which has been one of the leading operations at Gulfstream throughout the spring meet. Micah Husbands picks up the mount and has been a dependable pilot for the Joseph stable when available. This filly's credentials at the claiming level suggest she belongs at the top of the class in this particular condition, and Joseph has a strong record when targeting specific spots on horses that have recently broken their maiden.

Secondary Choices

Miss Magical (4) at 4-1 is trained by Laura Cazares, who has shown a knack for spotting horses in favorable spots at Gulfstream. Edwin Gonzalez has the call and the filly draws the four-post, which is a serviceable position in a dirt sprint. If the pace develops into a genuine battle between the two favorites, Miss Magical (4) has the profile of a horse that could save ground early and arrive with a late run.

Jayana (9) at 6-1 is trained by Joseph Catanese and gets Miguel Angel Vasquez aboard, making this an interesting ride assignment given Vasquez's overall activity on the card. From the nine-post, she will need to find a favorable position early but Vasquez is experienced enough to adapt. Catanese has been quietly effective this spring and the 6-1 morning line may underestimate his ability to prepare a horse for a spot like this.

Longshots

La Dinamita (1) at 10-1 from the Beau Chapman barn gets Diego Herrera, who has been active and producing at a respectable clip at Gulfstream. The rail post is advantaged in a sprint, but the 10-1 morning line suggests the form is lacking relative to the top choices. Areacodefiveoone (7) at 12-1 and Bal De Mar (8) at 12-1 are long shots that would require a significant pace collapse to get involved at the business end. Triple Threat (3) at 20-1 for Herbert Miller is an extreme price and figures to be a non-factor. Ave Fenix (5) at 30-1 for Amparo Lizardi is the longest price in the race and is considered a throw-out at that number.

Betting Strategy

This is a logical win-bet race for the more confident player. The two co-favorites at 2-1 both have legitimate credentials, making a win bet on Valiant Honor (6) more appealing given the Joseph barn's sharp form. Miss Magical (4) is the natural exacta companion from the outside of the chalk. A small exacta box of Valiant Honor (6) and Alluring Serenity (2) is viable, with Miss Magical (4) added underneath in trifecta coverage.

Selections

Win: Valiant Honor (6) Place: Alluring Serenity (2) Show: Miss Magical (4)

RACE 2 — Post (1:22)/12:22/11:22/10:22 — 1760f | T | M | Md 50000 | BON | Purse $44,000

A one-mile maiden race on the turf for horses purchased at a price of $50,000 or less. This is a more interesting betting race than the opener, as turf maidens at a mile carry significant form question marks and trainer/jockey angles often play a larger role than raw numbers. The seven-horse field is manageable and the purse of $44,000 reflects the restricted nature of the condition.

Race 2

Pace Analysis

The mile turf maiden with seven horses should produce a moderate early pace. King Prince (4) from the Casse barn is likely the most tactical horse in here and figures to be positioned prominently. Municipal (6) from the Saffie Joseph Jr. stable with Micah Husbands in the irons will also be expected to compete near the front. With two well-conditioned horses from leading barns likely setting an honest but not suicidal pace, the race could develop into a stretch battle between the top two favorites, with closers having a chance to pounce if the front-runners set it up.

Key Contenders

King Prince (4) at 2-1 is the most attractive play in this race based on trainer angle alone. Mark Casse is one of the premier trainers in North America when it comes to developing turf horses, and his maiden turf runners at Gulfstream are well-respected by the betting public and professional handicappers alike. Pascacio Lopez has been solid at Gulfstream this spring and gets the inside position to work with. If King Prince (4) has been pointing toward this spot, expect a sharp effort.

Municipal (6) at 2-1 from the Saffie Joseph Jr. barn is the other morning line co-favorite and Husbands continues to be the reliable partner for this operation. Joseph's barn has a strong record with first-time turf starters and horses bred to excel on the grass, and Municipal (6) at the mile on turf suits the typical Joseph development model. The six-post in a turf mile at Gulfstream is acceptable.

Secondary Choices

Parnassus (7) at 4-1 is trained by Jose Francisco D'Angelo and gets Yolber Torres, who has been one of the more active riders at the meet. From the outside post, Parnassus (7) will need to be covered up quickly or the wide trip will cost meaningful lengths. D'Angelo is a capable conditioner and the 4-1 morning line suggests some respected form or breeding that warrants attention.

Laudable (1) at 6-1 for Steven Dwoskin gets Jose Morelos and draws the rail post in a turf mile — which is actually favorable at Gulfstream's configuration. The 6-1 price represents mild value if Dwoskin has this horse ready for a sharp debut or return.

Longshots

Sofocles (2) at 8-1 for Faustio Gutierrez with Miguel Angel Vasquez is an intriguing situational play at odds. Vasquez is clearly the busiest skilled rider on the card today, and if he has a positive report on this horse from the morning, the 8-1 number might be stealable. Gran Campanero (3) at 12-1 and Bravo Rough (5) at 20-1 for Angel Quiroz appear to be weak entries that fill out the field. Two horses from the same barn (Gran Campanero (3) and Bravo Rough (5)) will have interest split and are difficult to separate without additional form data.

Betting Strategy

The pairing of two 2-1 morning line co-favorites in a turf maiden creates value in the exotics. An exacta singling King Prince (4) on top over Municipal (6) with Parnassus (7) underneath offers a reasonable payout. The 4-1 on Parnassus (7) to complete a trifecta with the two favorites is worth a small investment. At 6-1, Laudable (1) is a live alternative in trifectas if the pace gets hot between the two chalk horses.

Selections

Win: King Prince (4) Place: Municipal (6) Show: Parnassus (7)

RACE 3 — Post (1:54)/12:54/11:54/10:54 — 1870f | D | M | Md 17500 | BON | Purse $31,000

A two-turn dirt route of approximately one mile and one-sixteenth for maidens with a claiming price of $17,500. This is the lowest-end maiden route on the card, and fields at this level are frequently composed of horses that have been unable to break their maiden at higher levels and have been dropped repeatedly. The seven-horse field features entries from several active barns.

Race 3

Pace Analysis

Two-turn dirt maiden routes at this level often lack genuine early speed, which can produce a dawdle that sets up closers. Tonytone (7) and I Wish You Love (4) figure to be the primary pace-setters or stalkers based on connections. If neither is inclined to go to the front, the pace could be genuinely slow, which would benefit horses with tactical speed. Jackpot Cree (2) has the breeding to handle a two-turn route and may be positioned to stalk and pounce.

Key Contenders

I Wish You Love (4) at 2-1 from trainer Georgina Baxter is the morning line favorite and gets Pascacio Lopez. Baxter is a capable conditioner who has been quietly effective at Gulfstream during the spring meet. The 2-1 price reflects genuine respect from the morning line maker, and Lopez's presence indicates the barn considers this horse a solid chance. In a two-turn maiden route at this modest claiming level, a well-prepared horse from a competent barn often takes the prize.

Tonytone (7) at 2-1 from the Saffie Joseph Jr. barn with Micah Husbands is the other co-favorite. Joseph continues to field live horses across the card today, and Tonytone (7) draws the outside post in the seven-horse field. From the seven-post in a two-turn route, the horse will have to navigate early but the extra distance helps work out any positional disadvantages. Husbands is comfortable in these spots for the Joseph operation.

Secondary Choices

Jackpot Cree (2) at 4-1 trained by Victor Barboza Jr. with Miguel Angel Vasquez is a horse that warrants serious secondary consideration. Vasquez has shown sharp judgment at this meet and the 4-1 morning line is worth respecting. Barboza has been developing this horse carefully and the two-post is a favorable draw in a dirt route.

Surfer's Joy (3) at 6-1 for Heather Smullen with Yolber Torres is a modest price for a horse from the same barn as Infinityandbeyond (1). Smullen fields two in this race, which often means the barn has a genuine runner and a secondary option. Surfer's Joy (3) at 6-1 is the more likely intended winner from this operation if the form supports it.

Longshots

Van Cleef (5) at 10-1 for Joseph Catanese with Jose Morelos is at double-digit odds for a reason but Catanese's record with developing horses at the maiden claiming level earns a mention. Four Guns (6) at 12-1 for Ronald Spatz with Diego Herrera is unlikely to factor. Infinityandbeyond (1) at 20-1 for Smullen is presumably the barn's second string.

Betting Strategy

The two 2-1 co-favorites make win betting uncomfortable unless you have a strong opinion. The trifecta is the play, with I Wish You Love (4) and Tonytone (7) on top and Jackpot Cree (2) underneath. At 4-1, Jackpot Cree (2) to win is also a viable standalone play if the Joseph and Baxter horses come in below expectations.

Selections

Win: I Wish You Love (4) Place: Tonytone (7) Show: Jackpot Cree (2)

RACE 4 — Post (2:27)/1:27/12:27/11:27 — 1100f | T | CO | OClm 50000 | BOF | Purse $42,000

A six-and-a-half furlong optional claiming sprint on the turf for fillies and mares with a claiming tag of $50,000. This is a more competitive race than the earlier events, with a purse of $42,000 and a field of seven that includes some experienced turf sprinters. The optional claiming condition means horses can enter for the tag or not, and connections that chose not to claim signal confidence in their horse's form.

Race 4

Pace Analysis

Six-and-a-half furlongs on the turf typically produces a genuine early pace as turf sprinters in this condition tend to be quick out of the gate. Viable Asset (3) at 2-1 and Clowning Around (4) at 2-1 are the morning line co-favorites and both figure to be near the pace or contesting it outright. The pace in this race may be honest enough to set up a late runner, though Gulfstream's turf course can be kind to stalkers who find a good early position.

Key Contenders

Viable Asset (3) at 2-1 from the Fernando Abreu barn gets Diego Herrera, who has been busy and productive on the card. Abreu is a capable conditioner with turf horses at Gulfstream and the 2-1 morning line suggests strong early-line respect. Herrera has the experience to place this horse in a favorable position from the three-post in a turf sprint.

Clowning Around (4) at 2-1 from the Wesley Ward barn is immediately the most notable entry in this race. Ward is arguably the leading trainer of turf sprinters in North America, with a record of developing horses specifically for this type of race. Ward's horses at the $50,000 optional claiming level for fillies and mares are typically well-focused and ready, and Pascacio Lopez is a capable choice for the assignment. The four-post is a clean draw.

Secondary Choices

Viking Quest (7) at 4-1 trained by Lauren Robson with Rajiv Maragh is the most interesting secondary play on the board. Maragh is one of the more experienced jockeys on the card today, and Robson has shown ability to place horses effectively on the Gulfstream turf. From the outside post in a turf sprint, Viking Quest (7) will need to break alertly, but Maragh's ability to find position quickly is a genuine asset here.

Longshots

Rockyta (1) at 8-1 for Kent Sweezey with Samy Camacho draws the rail in a turf sprint, which can be a double-edged sword — favorable if the horse gets out cleanly, problematic if traffic develops. Glancing My Way (2) at 8-1 for Carlos David with Nik Juarez is a price horse that fills out the field. Rogue Runner (5) at 8-1 for Gary Jackson with Jose Morelos is at a price that could represent value if the pace gets contentious. Mo Java (6) at 20-1 for Joel Santiago is the longest price and is essentially a throw-out.

Betting Strategy

The Ward angle on Clowning Around (4) is the primary play, and at 2-1 it is worth a straight win bet. A morning line co-favorite from the Wesley Ward barn targeting a turf sprint at this level deserves full respect. Viable Asset (3) is the natural exacta partner. Viking Quest (7) at 4-1 is worth including in trifecta coverage given Maragh's situational awareness.

Selections

Win: Clowning Around (4) Place: Viable Asset (3) Show: Viking Quest (7)

RACE 5 — Post (3:00)/2:00/1:00/12:00 — 1320f | D | C | Clm 6250 | CUN | Purse $25,500

A one-mile dirt sprint for colts, geldings, and horses of all ages at the $6,250 claiming level, the lowest claiming price on the card. This is a race where fresh class droppers and sharp barn moves can dominate. The purse of $25,500 draws a competitive field of eight at the bottom of the Gulfstream claiming ladder.

Race 5

Pace Analysis

Eight horses at the sprint distance with several capable of showing speed suggests a potentially contentious early pace. Big Paradise (3) at 1-1 is the heavy morning line favorite and will likely be in or near the front of the field. Kinetic Stone (8) at 4-1 and Torch Is Passed (6) at 4-1 are the other likely forwardly-placed runners. If Big Paradise (3) gets clear early and dictates a comfortable pace, the race may not be competitive. If there is a challenge from Kinetic Stone (8) or others, the pace could set up a closer.

Key Contenders

Big Paradise (3) at 1-1 from trainer Laura Cazares with Edgar Perez is the overwhelming morning line favorite, and the 1-1 price demands respect. When a horse is this short on the morning line at a competitive track, it typically signals sharp recent form or a significant class advantage. Cazares is a Gulfstream-based conditioner who knows how to prepare horses for this level, and the three-post is a workable draw in a dirt sprint. The main handicapping question at this price is not whether Big Paradise (3) is the best horse — it likely is — but whether the value exists in win wagering versus exotic opportunities.

Torch Is Passed (6) at 4-1 from trainer Nolan Ramsey with Miguel Angel Vasquez is the clearest threat to the favorite. Ramsey's barn has been represented well at this meet, and Vasquez is one of the top riders on the card. If Big Paradise (3) gets into a pace battle, Torch Is Passed (6) is positioned to capitalize. The six-post is fair in a sprint.

Secondary Choices

Kinetic Stone (8) at 4-1 for Beau Chapman with Micah Husbands is worth noting as the co-second choice. Chapman trains solid lower-level horses at Gulfstream and Husbands is an upgrade. From the eight-post in a one-turn sprint, there could be some early positional challenges, but if Kinetic Stone (8) can find a clean lane, the 4-1 price offers more value than the even-money favorite.

Cross Haste (7) at 8-1 for Pedro Garcia Jr. with Yolber Torres is a live longshot in this spot, particularly if the pace becomes contentious between the favorites. Torres has been riding with confidence at this meet.

Longshots

Etendre (1) at 12-1 for Ronald Coy with Leonel Reyes draws the rail, which is an advantage in a sprint, but the price suggests limited form. Prince David (4) at 15-1, Selecto (2) at 20-1, and Sweet Cha Cha (5) at 20-1 are all at double-digit prices that reflect non-competitive form at this level.

Betting Strategy

At 1-1, Big Paradise (3) offers no win value but is a logical single in multi-race wagers. The play here is using Big Paradise (3) on top in exactas with Torch Is Passed (6) and Kinetic Stone (8) underneath. A box of those three in the trifecta at modest investment is the proper approach.

Selections

Win: Big Paradise (3) Place: Torch Is Passed (6) Show: Kinetic Stone (8)

RACE 6 — Post (3:32)/2:32/1:32/12:32 — 1760f | T | AO | OClm 62500b | CUN | Purse $71,000

One of the two feature races on the card. This is a one-mile optional claiming race on the turf for horses of all ages and both genders at the $62,500 claiming level. The field of eleven is large and the $71,000 purse represents the richest race of the afternoon. Large turf field with a wide range of morning line prices from 2-1 down to 20-1.

Race 6

Pace Analysis

Eleven horses going a mile on the turf will create significant early jockeying for position, particularly given the large field. Win For The Money (10) at 2-1 from the Casse barn is the morning line favorite and figures to be in a prominent tracking position. Missed The Cut (9) at 3-1 is the second choice and the race's pace narrative will likely hinge on how many of the field's mid-packers press the issue. With Harrow (1) from the Joseph barn potentially establishing pace, and several other horses capable of pressing, the pace could be moderate to honest, which would suit closers in a large turf field.

Key Contenders

Win For The Money (10) at 2-1 from the Mark Casse barn with Sonny Leon is the morning line favorite, and Casse's record with turf runners at Gulfstream is exemplary. Leon has been riding for the Casse operation with success and the 2-1 price is a fair reflection of this horse's class in the field. From the ten-post in an eleven-horse turf field, Leon will need to maneuver carefully early but the mile distance provides enough time to find position.

Missed The Cut (9) at 3-1 for Robert DiBona with Jose Morelos is the most interesting bet on the board. The 3-1 morning line price on a horse that figures to track the pace from a favorable position in a large turf field represents genuine value. DiBona has been a sharp operator at Gulfstream this spring and Morelos is a reliable partner in these spots.

Secondary Choices

Walley World (4) at 6-1 from the Saffie Joseph Jr. barn with Micah Husbands is a legitimate secondary play. Joseph enters two horses in this race — Harrow (1) and Walley World (4) — with Harrow (1) at 10-1 and Walley World (4) at 6-1, suggesting Walley World (4) is the stable's intended first string. Husbands has the experience to place a horse well in a large turf field.

Degree Of Risk (11) at 10-1 from trainer Nolan Ramsey with Miguel Angel Vasquez is worth a look at double-digit odds. Ramsey has shown he can target these optional claiming turf routes effectively, and Vasquez riding from the outside post in a turf mile is not an impossible ask given his experience at finding trips.

One Time Willard (5) at 8-1 from Kelly Breen's barn with Pascacio Lopez warrants respect. Breen is an accomplished conditioner with turf horses and the 8-1 morning line could represent value if this horse has been pointing here following a sharp prep.

Longshots

Harrow (1) at 10-1 for Joseph with Hughes is the barn's secondary runner but the rail post in a turf mile is not without merit. Indecisiveness (2) at 12-1 for Ruben Sierra with Diego Herrera, War Bomber (7) at 12-1 for Ronald Coy with Leonel Reyes, and Tour The City (6) at 15-1 for Casse with Samy Camacho are all priced beyond normal consideration. Sky's Not Falling (8) at 15-1 for Michael Trombetta with Edwin Gonzalez and Bridle A Butterfly (3) at 20-1 for Thomas Proctor with Torrealba are longshots that would need a significant pace collapse to factor.

Betting Strategy

Win For The Money (10) and Missed The Cut (9) form the logical exacta pairing at the top of the wagering structure. The wide field creates value in trifectas, where Walley World (4) and One Time Willard (5) as the primary third-leg options make sense. A partial wheel of Win For The Money (10) and Missed The Cut (9) on top over Walley World (4), One Time Willard (5), and Degree Of Risk (11) is the recommended trifecta play.

Selections

Win: Win For The Money (10) Place: Missed The Cut (9) Show: Walley World (4)

RACE 7 — Post (4:04)/3:04/2:04/1:04 — 1760f | D | AO | OClm 62500b | CUN | Purse $71,000

The second of the two feature races, this one on the main track at one mile. Optional claiming at $62,500 for all ages and genders, with the same $71,000 purse. A six-horse field makes this a much more manageable betting race than Race 6.

Race 7

Pace Analysis

Six horses in a one-mile dirt route creates a clearer pace picture than the turf counterpart. Flying Liam (3) at 2-1 and Cadet Corps (5) at 2-1 figure to be the two pace-setting or prominently positioned types. If both want to be on the lead, the pace could be genuinely honest, which would benefit Con Compania (2) at 3-1 or Grand Mo The First (6) at 4-1 if those horses have the ability to close. The six-horse field means every running style is clearly identifiable and pace handicapping is more reliable.

Key Contenders

Flying Liam (3) at 2-1 from trainer Nolan Ramsey with Miguel Angel Vasquez is the morning line co-favorite and the most visually appealing play on the card from a jockey-trainer angle. Vasquez has been the meet's most active and productive jockey and Ramsey has been sharp with his route runners. The three-post in a dirt route is a clean, advantaged position, and if Flying Liam (3) can establish a comfortable lead or sit close to it, Vasquez has the race management skills to control the pace and hold on.

Cadet Corps (5) at 2-1 from the Kelly Breen barn with Pascacio Lopez is the other co-favorite. Breen is one of the shrewdest conditioners in the Mid-Atlantic and Mid-South region, and when his horses ship to Gulfstream they are typically very well-prepared. Lopez has been a reliable booking on this card and the five-post is serviceable in a six-horse field.

Secondary Choices

Con Compania (2) at 3-1 for Robert DiBona with Diego Herrera is the most attractive secondary play in Race 7. DiBona placed Missed The Cut (9) as a 3-1 morning line price in Race 6 as well, which suggests the barn has two horses ready for top efforts on the same card. Herrera has been active and confident at this meet, and the 3-1 price on a horse trained by a Gulfstream specialist offers genuine value.

Grand Mo The First (6) at 4-1 for Victor Barboza Jr. with Samy Camacho is an outside post runner in a six-horse field that could benefit if the two co-favorites press each other through honest fractions. Camacho has been a solid booking in these situations and Barboza knows how to prepare horses for competitive optional claiming routes.

Longshots

Awesome Train (4) at 8-1 for Antonio Sano with Edwin Gonzalez is at a price that could represent fringe value if the top choices disappoint. Sano is an active Gulfstream conditioner. Special Session (1) at 15-1 from the Casse barn with Sonny Leon draws the rail but is clearly not the top Casse entry of the afternoon. At 15-1, this is a throw-out.

Race 7 is a sharp three-horse race on paper. The recommended play is a CON COMPANIA (2) win bet at 3-1 for value, with FLYING LIAM (3) and CADET CORPS (5) in exacta coverage underneath. A trifecta key using CON COMPANIA (2) on top over FLYING LIAM (3), CADET CORPS (5), and GRAND MO THE FIRST (6) is the aggressive play.

Selections

Win: Flying Liam (3) Place: Con Compania (2) Show: Cadet Corps (5)

RACE 8 — Post (4:36)/3:36/2:36/1:36 — 1760f | T | A | Alw 65000n1x | BUN | Purse $65,000

A one-mile turf allowance race for horses that have not won two allowance races or a graded stakes. This is a non-claiming event, which raises the overall class level significantly. The $65,000 purse attracts a field of nine that includes horses from national barns including Brad Cox and Mark Casse (two horses), Michael Maker, and Fernando Abreu. Win With Faith (8) at 2-1 is the morning line favorite.

Race 8

Pace Analysis

Nine horses going one mile on the turf in an allowance condition that draws national barns creates a competitive pace scenario. Win With Faith (8) at 2-1 is the likely pacesetter or prominent runner, with The Town (7) from the Cox barn likely to be positioned in a stalking role. Time Passes (6) from Casse and Souper Attentive (1), also Casse, will likely settle in behind the early leaders. The quality of horses in allowance fields at this level means the pace will be honest and the closers will have a genuine opportunity.

Key Contenders

Win With Faith (8) at 2-1 from trainer Ronald Spatz with Pascacio Lopez is the morning line favorite and the opening play. Spatz is a Gulfstream regular and Win With Faith (8) appears well-placed at this allowance level. At 2-1, this is a legitimate chalk play, and Lopez has been strong at the meet.

The Town (7) at 4-1 for Brad Cox with Samy Camacho is the most intriguing play on the board in Race 8. Cox is one of the premier trainers in North America and his horses at Gulfstream in allowance conditions have an excellent historical record. The Cox barn targeting a $65,000 allowance turf race with a single entry demands full attention. Camacho has been effective for multiple barns on this card and the seven-post in a turf mile is workable. The Town (7) at 4-1 is the value play of the race.

Secondary Choices

Time Passes (6) at 4-1 from the Casse barn with Yolber Torres is a co-secondary choice alongside The Town (7). Casse entering two horses in this race — Souper Attentive (1) at 6-1 and Time Passes (6) at 4-1 — with Time Passes (6) at the shorter price suggests it is the stable's primary entry. Torres has been dependable in these spots and the six-post is comfortable in a turf mile.

Cajun Gold (9) at 6-1 for Heather Smullen with Leonel Reyes is an outside post runner that could benefit from a strong pace. Smullen's barn has shown activity on this card and the 6-1 morning line on a horse that figures to close late in a mile turf race represents potential value.

Souper Attentive (1) at 6-1 for Casse with Sonny Leon draws the rail, which is a favorable post in a turf route. The co-6-1 price with Cajun Gold (9) means there could be a value play here if Casse's attention is split between two entries, but Leon on the rail in a turf route at a mile is a situation-specific angle worth noting.

Longshots

Wearebackyoungman (4) at 12-1 for Michael Maker with Rajiv Maragh is worth a token mention. Maker is a quality national barn and the 12-1 price could represent overlay value if the form supports it, but the morning line suggests he enters as a secondary option. Chicken Dance (3) at 10-1 for Fernando Abreu with Diego Herrera is at a price that suggests limited competitiveness at this level. David Pepperman (5) at 20-1 for Daniel Hurtak and Justin Smiles (2) at 20-1 for Joseph Orseno are extreme prices that are throw-outs.

Race 8 is the best betting race of the afternoon given the quality of trainers involved and the range of morning line prices. THE TOWN (7) at 4-1 is the strongest single play of the day from a value standpoint. A win bet on THE TOWN (7) combined with an exacta using WIN WITH FAITH (8) and TIME PASSES (6) in the secondary spots is the recommended approach. A three-horse exacta box of THE TOWN (7), WIN WITH FAITH (8), and TIME PASSES (6) covers the primary possibilities.

RACE 9 — Post (5:08)/4:08/3:08/2:08 — 1870f | D | C | Clm 12500n2l | BUN | Purse $30,000

The card closes with a two-turn dirt route of approximately one mile and three-sixteenths at the $12,500 claiming level, restricted to horses that have not won two races. The n2l condition at this claiming price creates a genuinely competitive field of nine, with several horses trying to pick up a second career win. The $30,000 purse is modest but the betting interest in a nine-horse route to close the card is real.

Race 9

Pace Analysis

A nine-horse field in a two-turn route creates a potentially complex pace scenario. Royal Salute (3) at 2-1 and Always True (8) at 3-1 are the top two on the morning line and both figure to factor into the pace discussion. Backdoor Royalty (2) at 4-1 is likely a stalker-type. If the early fractions are honest, the closers will have a shot. If there is a front-runner who gets away with a slow initial pace, the leader may be difficult to catch. Always True (8) at 3-1 has the profile of a horse that could come from just off the pace.

Key Contenders

Royal Salute (3) at 2-1 from trainer Michael Lerman with Pascacio Lopez is the morning line favorite and Lopez's busy day ends here. Lerman is a Gulfstream-based conditioner who targets specific conditions carefully, and the 2-1 price reflects genuine confidence. From the three-post in a two-turn route, Royal Salute (3) is ideally positioned to track the pace and make a run in the stretch.

Always True (8) at 3-1 from trainer Dante Zanelli with Yolber Torres is the second choice and arguably the more interesting betting play given the 3-1 morning line price. Zanelli is a careful conditioner and Torres has been solid throughout the card. In a two-turn route, horses from the wider posts often benefit from avoiding early trouble that can occur near the rail in large fields.

Secondary Choices

Backdoor Royalty (2) at 4-1 for Kent Sweezey with Miguel Angel Vasquez is the clear secondary choice. Vasquez has been exceptional throughout this card and his presence on a 4-1 morning line horse in the closing race of the day is worth noting. Sweezey has been a consistent trainer at Gulfstream's lower claiming levels and Backdoor Royalty (2) from the two-post has a clean draw in a dirt route.

Frosted Punk (4) at 6-1 for Kathleen O'Connell with Diego Herrera is a fair price on a horse that could benefit from a contested early pace. O'Connell is an active conditioner at Gulfstream and Herrera has had a workmanlike day on the card.

Longshots

Don't Fire Joe (1) at 10-1 for Joseph Orseno with Edwin Gonzalez draws the rail in a two-turn route, which carries the usual caveats about early traffic. Laser (5) at 10-1 for Elizabeth Dobles with Jose Morelos and Noble Prince (7) at 10-1 for Ronald Coy with Leonel Reyes are both at double-digit prices and are likely non-factors unless the field encounters trouble. Chivado (6) at 8-1 for Antonio Sano with Samy Camacho could be a mild price play if Sano has this horse ready following some prep work. Saratoga Cruiser (9) at 20-1 for Collin Maragh with Rajiv Maragh is the longest price in the race and the father-son Maragh combination draws attention, but the 20-1 morning line is too long to chase without supporting form.

Betting Strategy

Always True (8) at 3-1 provides the best value at the top of the card for Race 9. A win bet on Always True (8) with Royal Salute (3) and Backdoor Royalty (2) in exacta and trifecta coverage is the recommended approach. Chivado (6) at 8-1 is worth a small inclusion in trifecta bottoms as a Sano barn throwback.

Jockey Notes and Insights

Miguel Angel Vasquez is the jockey to follow on this card. He has mounts in at least seven of the nine races, including major plays on Alluring Serenity (2) in Race 1, Jackpot Cree (2) in Race 3, Torch Is Passed (6) in Race 5, Degree Of Risk (11) in Race 6, Flying Liam (3) in Race 7, and Backdoor Royalty (2) in Race 9. When a jockey of this experience level accepts a full book at Gulfstream, it typically signals a positive morning relationship with the stables involved. Vasquez's ability to rate horses in two-turn routes is a particular strength, and his rides in Races 7 and 9 deserve extra attention.

Pascacio Lopez is also riding a full card, with top calls in several of the day's key races including King Prince (4) in Race 2, Clowning Around (4) in Race 4, Win With Faith (8) in Race 8, and Royal Salute (3) in Race 9. Lopez has been consistent at Gulfstream this spring and his presence on morning line favorites across the card is a positive indicator.

Micah Husbands continues to be the primary rider for the Saffie Joseph Jr. barn and has multiple mounts today including Valiant Honor (6) in Race 1, Municipal (6) in Race 2, Tonytone (7) in Race 3, Kinetic Stone (8) in Race 5, and Walley World (4) in Race 6. The Joseph barn's productivity throughout the spring meet means Husbands is among the more active pilots on the card with live chances.

Diego Herrera has been riding aggressively at this meet and picks up mounts across multiple races including La Dinamita (1) in Race 1, Viable Asset (3) in Race 4, Con Compania (2) in Race 7, Chicken Dance (3) in Race 8, and Frosted Punk (4) in Race 9. Herrera's activity level and strike rate at Gulfstream have been solid.

Samy Camacho has key rides on Alluring Serenity (2) in Race 1, Rockyta (1) in Race 4, Tour The City (6) in Race 6, Grand Mo The First (6) in Race 7, and The Town (7) in Race 8. The assignment on The Town (7) for the Brad Cox barn in Race 8 is his most significant ride of the afternoon.

Yolber Torres rides for multiple barns including a key assignment on Time Passes (6) in Race 8 for Casse and Always True (8) in Race 9. Torres has been a steady presence on the Gulfstream circuit and has shown he can get the job done in competitive spots.

Rajiv Maragh's key assignment is Viking Quest (7) in Race 4 for Lauren Robson and Wearebackyoungman (4) in Race 8 for Michael Maker. Maragh is an experienced rider who has been active at the meet and his presence on the Maker horse in Race 8 is a barn angle worth tracking.

Trainer Notes and Insights

Saffie Joseph Jr. is the dominant presence on this card with entries in Races 1, 2, 3, 5, 6, and others. His barn's continued sharp form throughout the 2026 Gulfstream spring meet makes every Joseph horse a contender regardless of morning line price. Specifically, Valiant Honor (6) in Race 1, Municipal (6) in Race 2, Tonytone (7) in Race 3, and Walley World (4) in Race 6 represent his most prominent plays today.

Mark Casse fields multiple runners including King Prince (4) in Race 2, Tour The City (6) in Race 6, Special Session (1) in Race 7, Souper Attentive (1) in Race 8, and Time Passes (6) in Race 8. Casse's record with turf horses at all distances is exceptional, and his two-horse entry in Race 8 elevates that race's profile significantly.

Brad Cox's sole entry is The Town (7) in Race 8, making it the most targeted single-barn play of the afternoon. National barns that ship or specifically target a single race at Gulfstream typically arrive in sharp form, and Cox's record in non-restricted allowance turf routes is among the best in the country.

Kelly Breen is represented by One Time Willard (5) in Race 6 and Cadet Corps (5) in Race 7. Breen is an accomplished conditioner whose horses are typically well-prepared and fit when they appear in competitive optional claiming and allowance company.

Wesley Ward's Clowning Around (4) in Race 4 is the most powerful single trainer angle on the card. Ward's record with turf sprint fillies and mares in optional claiming spots at Gulfstream is exceptional and his morning line price of 2-1 is absolutely justified.

Nolan Ramsey is an active presence throughout the card with Torch Is Passed (6) in Race 5, Degree Of Risk (11) in Race 6, and Flying Liam (3) in Race 7. The Race 7 entry is Ramsey's most prominent play and Flying Liam (3) with Vasquez has the look of a well-aimed race.

Gustavo Delgado, whose barn is in the spotlight nationally with The Puma preparing for the Kentucky Derby, fields Alluring Serenity (2) in Race 1. The Delgado operation's current high profile and sharp national form is a genuine angle in a modest maiden claiming sprint.

Best Wagering Strategies and Value Plays

The standout value play of the day is The Town (7) in Race 8 at a morning line of 4-1. The Brad Cox angle targeting a single race at Gulfstream in a quality allowance turf field is the strongest barn move on the card. At 4-1, this is a horse that could easily go off at 5-2 to 3-1 on race day, making early wagering consideration worthwhile. A strong win bet recommendation.

The second-best value play is Clowning Around (4) in Race 4. The Wesley Ward turf sprint angle for fillies and mares is one of the most reliable in American racing. At 2-1, the price is short but the play is legitimate, and Ward's horses in these spots rarely run poorly.

Con Compania (2) at 3-1 in Race 7 represents a strong value play relative to the co-favorites at 2-1. Robert DiBona's barn has two live horses on the card today, and if Missed The Cut (9) fires well in Race 6, the DiBona pattern continues with Con Compania (2) in Race 7. Diego Herrera has been the barn's go-to rider in these spots.

For multi-race wagering, the Pick 4 spanning Races 6 through 9 is the recommended exotic structure. Using Win For The Money (10) in Race 6, Flying Liam (3) in Race 7, The Town (7) in Race 8, and Always True (8) in Race 9 as singles or near-singles in a Pick 4 structure creates a manageable ticket with substantial upside, particularly if Flying Liam (3) or Always True (8) win at morning line prices that hold near 2-1 and 3-1 respectively.

For the Early Pick 5 or any multi-race sequence beginning with Race 1, anchoring Big Paradise (3) as a near-single in Race 5 and The Town (7) in Race 8 while using multiple horses in the other legs is the recommended approach. Big Paradise (3) at 1-1 is too short to beat in most scenarios, making it the logical single, while spreading in the maiden events in Races 2 and 3 accounts for the unpredictability of those conditions.

Exacta plays to prioritize across the card:

Race 8: THE TOWN (7) over WIN WITH FAITH (8) and TIME PASSES (6)

The trifecta in Race 6 with eleven horses is the biggest potential payout of the afternoon. A partial wheel using Win For The Money (10) and Missed The Cut (9) on top over a spread of Walley World (4), One Time Willard (5), Degree Of Risk (11), and Harrow (1) in the third position at modest investment could return a meaningful score given the size of the field and the range of closing prices in the exotic pools.
