Race Day Overview — Horseshoe Indianapolis | Saturday, July 11, 2026

Horseshoe Indianapolis hosts its marquee racing day of the calendar year with a loaded 13-race card highlighted by two Grade 3 stakes events: the $300,000 Indiana Derby and the $200,000 Indiana Oaks. The card also features six additional $100,000 stakes races, making this one of the richest Saturdays in the track's history. The day draws a notable collection of nationally recognized trainers and jockeys, giving the card a quality level that rivals many major racing venues.

The Indiana Derby, now in its 32nd running, has attracted significant attention with the entry of Leading Change (POST 8) for Brad Cox, a horse TDN designated a Rising Star following his dominant debut win at Churchill Downs on June 7. The morning-line favorite is Desert Gate (POST 9) for Bob Baffert, with the field also including Out Of The Woods (POST 7) for Philip D'Amato and Our Moneyman (POST 4) for Bret Calhoun.

The Indiana Oaks features Prom Queen (POST 5), recently sold privately to Delta Squad Racing from Gary and Mary West's operation. She enters as the morning-line favorite at 2-1 under the care of Brad Cox and Irad Ortiz Jr. Cox saddles two horses in the Oaks, also entering Nahla (POST 2).

Brad Cox is the dominant presence on this card, entering horses in multiple stakes events and bringing Hall of Fame-caliber connections throughout the card.

Weather and Track Conditions

Indianapolis in mid-July typically brings warm, humid conditions. The forecast for July 11, 2026, calls for partly cloudy skies with temperatures in the upper 80s and heat index values potentially reaching the low 90s during afternoon and early evening posts. No significant precipitation is anticipated through race time, which should result in a fast main track and a firm turf course for the races on the lawn.

The main track at Horseshoe Indianapolis has been rated fast for the bulk of the recent meet, and the turf course has been playing firm to good-firm. Given the dry, warm stretch through the first half of July, expect both surfaces to play to their typical characteristics, with early speed receiving a slight advantage on the main track and stamina rewarded on the turf at the 1 1/16-mile distance.

Track Bias and Post Position Analysis

The main track at Horseshoe Indianapolis has historically favored horses that can establish early position, particularly in sprint races. The one-turn mile and sprint distances tend to favor horses breaking from the inside half of the gate, as the run to the first turn is short and outside posts can cost horses ground. In route races going two turns on the dirt, the bias softens somewhat and pace becomes the dominant factor, but horses with forward-running styles continue to perform well.

On the turf course, inside posts at the 1 1/16-mile trip carry an advantage, as the course is relatively tight and horses that can establish position along the rail without burning energy are set up well for the run home. However, in full fields, a mid-pack stalking trip from a middle post can be equally effective.

For the sprint stakes races today, expect pace to be honest-to-fast, and horses that can rate just off the speed or press from second should be well-positioned to run down a potentially tiring front-runner.

RACE 1 — Post (12:00) — 1320f | D | A | Alw 46240n1x | Purse $46,240

This is a one-turn sprint on the main track for fillies and mares that have never won an allowance race. The non-winners of one allowance condition brings together horses at a significant turning point in their careers. The field of nine will see a healthy pace scenario develop with multiple horses carrying early speed.

Race 1

Pace Analysis

Don't Miss Out (POST 1) and Lil Gin N Class (POST 6) figure to contest the early lead, with Fun On The Bayou (POST 8) and Tiz In Sight (POST 7) pressing from just off the pace. The pace should be honest, and the race sets up well for a stalker or presser to close through a tiring front runner.

Key Contenders

Fun On The Bayou (POST 8) draws the eye immediately by virtue of securing the services of Irad Ortiz Jr., one of the most accomplished jockeys in North America. Ortiz is at Saratoga for most of the summer meet but is clearly making a trip to Indianapolis for the stakes action on this card, and his presence on Fun on the Bayou in the opener suggests connections view this horse as a live runner. Trainer Chris Block is capable with this class of horse, and the 4-1 morning line undervalues the jockey advantage here.

Lil Gin N Class (POST 6) comes in with Fernando De La Cruz, who has been one of the top riders working at this meet. Trainer Tim Eggleston has solid figures locally and this horse's 4-1 price reflects legitimate expectations. She rates as a key contender from the outside of the early speed pack.

Secondary Choices

Don't Miss Out (POST 1) is the morning-line favorite at 3-1 for trainer Genaro Garcia, who saddles two horses on the card today. The rail post in a one-turn sprint is a genuine asset, and with Marcelino Pedroza up, this horse must be factored into all exotic wagering. Tiz In Sight (POST 7) at 5-1 for trainer Chris Hartman with Mitchell Murrill aboard is a respected secondary contender. Murrill is one of the stronger journeyman riders on the Midwest circuit.

Longshots

Ibuki (POST 3) at 20-1 for Rodolphe Brisset with Axel Concepcion cuts back in class from prior efforts. Brisset will have horses running throughout this card and connections clearly made the trip from the East for a reason. Turkish Pistachio (POST 5) at 20-1 is the second Garcia entry and likely serves as the stable's secondary runner. Jr Miss Buttercup (POST 2) at 6-1 for Joseph D. Davis with Hannah Leahey gets a fair look in these conditions. Cloudy Star (POST 4) at 10-1 for Tomas Medina and Joseph D. Ramos has upside at a number. What's Up Dog (POST 9) at 20-1 for Cipriano Contreras closes out the field and faces a tough spot.

Selections

Win: Fun On The Bayou (POST 8) Place: Lil Gin N Class (POST 6) Show: Don't Miss Out (POST 1)

RACE 2 — Post (12:43) — 1210f | D | C | Clm 5000b | Purse $14,000

The bottom of the claiming ranks provides a competitive if modest field of ten sprinters. At $5,000 claiming price, these are horses at the lowest level of the condition book, and consistency within this tier is the primary handicapping factor. With a full field of ten going six furlongs, pace will be contested and the horse that can find the cleanest trip should have the edge.

Race 2

Pace Analysis

Zappinit (POST 1) figures to be the controlling speed from the rail, and Rocket Hoss (POST 7) may press or stalk depending on the break. The pace should be fast enough to set up a closer, though at this level, front-running types often survive.

Key Contenders

Zappinit (POST 1) draws in from the rail and is the 2-1 morning-line choice for trainer Rogelio Labra with Alberto Burgos up. The rail in a sprint at this level with the top early speed makes this horse the one to beat. At 2-1, the price is short for a claiming race but the logic is sound.

Hedge (POST 8) at 6-1 for trainer David Jacobson with Joseph D. Ramos is a solid second choice from a capable conditioner. Jacobson ships horses that tend to be ready, and at this price point in the field, Hedge represents real value.

Secondary Choices

Rocket Hoss (POST 7) at 5-1 for Joseph D. Davis and Alexander Crispin is a live contender from a barn that fields multiple horses today. Bella's Prayer (POST 5) at 6-1 for John Haran and Amir Mendoza fits the profile of a horse that can stalk and pounce in a competitive cheap sprint.

Longshots

Keepin It Classy (POST 2) at 10-1 for Tim Eggleston and Fernando De La Cruz should not be dismissed entirely, as Eggleston is a local trainer who knows these horses. Do Ya Wanna Dance (POST 3) at 8-1 for Randy Matthews and Joseph C. Bealmear has a legitimate chance at a price. Vsop (POST 4) at 12-1 and Might As Well (POST 10) at 12-1 are deep longshots with minimal upside at these odds. Tay (POST 6) at 15-1 for Scott D. Mullins and Jose Ramos Gutierrez is a fringe play. Optimal Courage (POST 9) at 10-1 for Miguel Silva and Alex Achard rounds out the field.

Selections

Win: Zappinit (POST 1) Place: Hedge (POST 8) Show: Rocket Hoss (POST 7)

RACE 3 — Post (1:17) — 1320f | D | S | Md Sp Wt | Purse $38,500

A seven-furlong maiden special weight for fillies on the main track. Three-way battle at the top of the morning line with One More Question (POST 2), Misty Moon Song (POST 5), and Innisfree Prayer (POST 7) drawing the most attention from handicappers.

Race 3

Pace Analysis

With multiple horses at or near even money, the pace scenario likely features a contested early pace. Innisfree Prayer (POST 7) is trained by John Haran, who has had success with forward-running types on this card. The pace should be honest, setting up a stalker well.

Key Contenders

One More Question (POST 2) is co-favored at 2-1 for trainer Tracey J. Wisner with Samuel E. Bermudez. The two post is an asset in a seven-furlong sprint and the horse draws the most support from the morning line for a reason. Wisner's horses are well-prepared at the maiden level and this filly warrants top billing.

Misty Moon Song (POST 5) is also co-favored at 2-1 for trainer Erin Thompson and Hannah Leahey. Thompson is a capable conditioner at the local level, and Leahey has been building a solid book at this meet. Two horses at identical 2-1 odds in a seven-horse maiden field is unusual and suggests the morning line maker sees these two as genuinely equal contenders.

Secondary Choices

Innisfree Prayer (POST 7) at 4-1 for John Haran and Marcelino Pedroza is the logical alternative. Haran is active throughout this card and will be sending out well-prepared horses. The outside post in a seven-furlong sprint is manageable, and Pedroza is a reliable pilot on this circuit.

It'stheonlywaytogo (POST 3) at 5-1 for Anthony J. Granitz and Amir Mendoza rounds out the secondary tier. Granitz saddles multiple horses today and knows the surface well.

Longshots

Tiva (POST 1) at 10-1 for Jonathan Nance and R. Prescott could sneak into the exotics at a price from the rail. Low Bid (POST 4) at 12-1 for Karin Yike and Alex Achard is a deep longshot. This Little Light (POST 6) at 15-1 for Randy Matthews and Joseph C. Bealmear is a filler entry with limited upside.

Selections

Win: One More Question (POST 2) Place: Misty Moon Song (POST 5) Show: Innisfree Prayer (POST 7)

RACE 4 — Post (1:50) — 1870f | T | S | Md Sp Wt | Purse $43,520

The first turf race of the day, a maiden special weight going 1 1/16 miles on the lawn. Eight horses with Max (POST 4) as the morning-line favorite at 2-1. Turf maiden routes can often be unpredictable, but pedigree and connections provide strong signals.

Race 4

Pace Analysis

At 1 1/16 miles on the turf, pace typically develops in a measured fashion early before accelerating into the stretch. Max (POST 4) and Lucky To Dance (POST 3) figure to be prominent, while Beau Cup (POST 8) with Luis Saez may stalk from a closer position.

Key Contenders

Max (POST 4) is the 2-1 morning-line choice for trainer Jim Corrigan with Santo Sanjur. The four post on a turf course at this distance is workable, and Corrigan's consistent preparation at the maiden level makes this horse the one to beat. Sanjur is developing into a reliable option on this circuit.

Lucky To Dance (POST 3) at 3-1 for Darrin Miller pairs with Adam Beschizza, a jockey with turf experience. Miller saddles two horses in this race, also entering Love To (POST 2), which suggests confidence in his barn's turf stock. Lucky to Dance draws inside and should get a favorable ground-saving trip.

Secondary Choices

Beau Cup (POST 8) at 4-1 for trainer Kelsey Danner and Luis Saez is a serious contender. Saez is one of the top jockeys in North America and his presence on this mount is a significant upgrade. Danner's horses tend to be fit when sent and this one should be closing through the stretch.

Moremi (POST 5) at 8-1 for Rey Hernandez and Alexander Crispin is a secondary play with some pace flexibility.

Longshots

Love To (POST 2) at 12-1 is the second Miller entry with Fernando De La Cruz, likely to serve as a pace factor or sacrificial rabbit. O G Lemon Drop (POST 6) at 10-1 for Agustin Gonzalez Jr. and Samuel E. Bermudez could surface at a price on the turf. Nancy Mak (POST 7) at 6-1 for Rogelio Labra and Joseph D. Ramos is not a true longshot at 6-1 but figures as a modest overlay if the top three falter. Private Text (POST 1) at 20-1 for Justin Wojczynski and Alex Achard faces a difficult task from the rail at this distance.

Selections

Win: Max (POST 4) Place: Beau Cup (POST 8) Show: Lucky To Dance (POST 3)

RACE 5 — Post (2:23) — 1320f | D | N | HooBrdSphH100k | Purse $100,000

The Hoosier Bred Sprint Handicap for horses bred in Indiana, run at six furlongs on the main track. Jr Shadow Boy (POST 7) is listed at 0-1 on the morning line, an apparent typo or notation that suggests this horse is the dominant figure in the race.

Race 5

Pace Analysis

With multiple horses in a six-furlong Hoosier-bred sprint, the early pace will be contested. Mister T (POST 1) and Hard Luck Prayer (POST 3) figure to push the pace from outside, while Rank Randy (POST 6) could also be involved early. The hot pace sets up the race for Jr Shadow Boy (POST 7) to close or press depending on his style.

Key Contenders

Jr Shadow Boy (POST 7) for Joseph D. Davis and Hannah Leahey is clearly the dominant figure, given the unusual 0-1 morning line listing. This horse has established himself as the top Indiana-bred sprinter and connections expect a wire-to-wire or dominating performance. In a Hoosier-bred stakes, a horse with this kind of favoritism demands respect as the top selection.

Mister T (POST 1) at 5-1 for Justin Bailey and Mitchell Murrill opens from the rail in a six-furlong sprint, which is a significant advantage. Bailey has been a consistent presence on the Indiana circuit and this horse figures to be a major pace factor and a legitimate threat to beat the favorite.

Secondary Choices

Hard Luck Prayer (POST 3) at 6-1 for Robert M. Gorham and Andres P. Ulloa is a capable Hoosier-bred runner. Rank Randy (POST 6) at 15-1 for Randy Klopp and Fernando De La Cruz may improve beyond his price tag in a short field.

Longshots

Fools Jester (POST 2) at 20-1 for John Haran and Jose Ramos Gutierrez is a long shot in a short field. Q's Topnotch (POST 4) at 30-1 for Genaro Garcia and Marcelino Pedroza and Speedy Spirit (POST 5) at 30-1 for Antonio Duran and Santo Sanjur are deep prices. Tail Gunner (POST 8) at 20-1 for Anthony J. Granitz and Joseph D. Ramos rounds out the field.

Selections

Win: Jr Shadow Boy (POST 7) Place: Mister T (POST 1) Show: Hard Luck Prayer (POST 3)

RACE 6 — Post (2:56) — 1830f | D | N | SchfrMemL100k | Purse $100,000

The Schaefer Memorial is a stakes sprint going approximately 1 1/16 miles on the dirt for older horses. This is one of the better open company races on the undercard, featuring nine horses including Brad Cox's dual entry and horses from national barns.

Race 6

Pace Analysis

First Division (POST 3) and Woodcourt (POST 7) figure as the early pace setters, while Encino (POST 4) and Instant Replay (POST 6) from the Cox barn may stalk. Bendoog (POST 8) from William Mott figures to be the closing force, while Gould's Gold (POST 9) for Kenneth McPeek and Luis Saez is another late runner to consider.

Key Contenders

Bendoog (POST 8) at 3-1 for William Mott and Junior Alvarado is the morning-line favorite and warrants every bit of that respect. Mott is one of the premier trainers in American racing, and when he ships to a secondary market like Indianapolis, his horses are serious and ready. Alvarado provides reliable horsemanship in route races and this combination should be difficult to beat.

Woodcourt (POST 7) at 4-1 for Cipriano Contreras and Evin A. Roman is a co-second choice. Contreras saddles horses throughout this card and this one carries a respectable price. Roman has developed into a capable local rider.

Encino (POST 4) at 5-1 for Brad Cox and Axel Concepcion is the first of the Cox double entries. Cox has won three of the last six Indiana Derbies and his horses are always live on this grounds. At 5-1, this is fair value for a Cox trainee.

Secondary Choices

Instant Replay (POST 6) at 6-1 for Brad Cox and Irad Ortiz Jr. is fascinating. Having Ortiz on one of your horses in any race is meaningful, and at 6-1 versus a stablemate at 5-1, there may be a case that connections are higher on Instant Replay. Cox horses that draw Ortiz tend to be the stable's top selection.

Gould's Gold (POST 9) at 6-1 for Kenneth McPeek and Luis Saez is a live closer from a top-flight national trainer. McPeek has won at this level consistently and Saez closes for him well.

Longshots

First Division (POST 3) at 4-1 for D. Whitworth Beckman and Joseph D. Ramos is technically a secondary choice on the line but functions as a pace angle more than a closer. Fountain Run (POST 1) at 15-1 for Anna M. Meah and Danny Sheehy is a filler. C. J's Storm (POST 2) at 20-1 for John Haran and Amir Mendoza is a deep longshot. Touch Of Destiny (POST 5) at 30-1 for Jose Luiz Aranha and Fernando De La Cruz is a throwout.

Selections

Win: Bendoog (POST 8) Place: Instant Replay (POST 6) Show: Gould's Gold (POST 9)

RACE 7 — Post (3:30) — 1320f | D | N | HooBrSphHB100k | Purse $100,000

The Hoosier Bred Sprint Handicap for fillies and mares bred in Indiana. A full field of ten goes six furlongs with several capable local fillies and mares competing for the top prize. The race is wide open on the morning line with Spirited Justice (POST 4) at 3-1 as the early choice.

Race 7

Pace Analysis

Grand Harbor (POST 1), Prayer Unbridled (POST 5), and Negra Noche (POST 7) could all be involved early. With multiple potential front-runners in a ten-horse field, the early pace should be honest, setting up the closers and stalkers.

Key Contenders

Spirited Justice (POST 4) at 3-1 for Tomas Medina and Luis Contreras is the morning-line leader. Medina's barn has had live runners throughout this card and this filly should be well-prepared. Contreras is an adequate pilot at this level.

Prayer Unbridled (POST 5) at 4-1 for Terry Phillips and Joseph D. Ramos is an equally compelling choice. Ramos has been active and effective throughout the card, and this filly's price offers solid value in a wide-open field.

Lady Chaos (POST 10) at 4-1 for Robert E. Dobbs Jr. and Irving Moncada is co-favored on the line. Dobbs Jr. also saddles Liam's Charge (POST 9) in the same race, and like the Cox double in Race 6, the horse drawing the inside rider between the two stable entries may reveal preferences. Lady Chaos from the ten post in a sprint is a concern for post position.

Secondary Choices

Kaboom (POST 8) at 8-1 for Michael Lauer and Luis Saez is an intriguing price. Saez rarely accepts mounts at this level unless the horse is a genuine contender, and a Saez-ridden 8-1 shot in a local bred stakes deserves attention.

Stanka (POST 2) at 8-1 for Randy Klopp and Fernando De La Cruz is another fair price with an active rider.

Liam's Charge (POST 9) at 5-1 for Robert E. Dobbs Jr. and Alberto Burgos is the stablemate of Lady Chaos and a legitimate secondary contender.

Longshots

Grand Harbor (POST 1) at 12-1 for Aaron M. West and Axel Concepcion has the advantage of the rail but carries a big number in a competitive field. Eltinge (POST 3) at 20-1 for John L. Langemeier and Marcelino Pedroza is a deep longshot. Sweet Summertime (POST 6) at 20-1 for Miguel Silva and Alex Achard and Negra Noche (POST 7) at 30-1 for Antonio Duran and Santo Sanjur are throwouts.

Selections

Win: Spirited Justice (POST 4) Place: Kaboom (POST 8) Show: Prayer Unbridled (POST 5)

RACE 8 — Post (4:05) — 1870f | T | N | InGenADsHB100k | Purse $100,000

The Indiana General Assembly Distaff Handicap on the turf, 1 1/16 miles for fillies and mares. An eleven-horse field with Charlene's Dream (POST 6) as the 2-1 morning-line favorite and In The Stars (POST 11) at 3-1 as a close second choice.

Race 8

Pace Analysis

The turf route will develop at a measured early pace. Modarosa (POST 1) may set a moderate tempo from the rail, which typically suits closers on the turf. Charlene's Dream (POST 6) and In The Stars (POST 11) figure to stalk and close.

Key Contenders

Charlene's Dream (POST 6) at 2-1 for trainer Ed Moger Jr. and Umberto Rispoli is the morning-line favorite. Rispoli is an accomplished turf jockey who has ridden effectively at major venues, and his presence on the favorite is a strong signal. Moger is a solid conditioner and this filly appears well-placed.

In The Stars (POST 11) at 3-1 for George R. Arnold II and Luis Saez is the likely closer. Arnold is a capable trainer, and Saez on a 3-1 turf horse from the outside post is worth watching. At 1 1/16 miles, outside posts can be overcome with a good closing run, and Saez excels in this setup.

Secondary Choices

Miwa (POST 7) at 4-1 for Joe Sharp and Irad Ortiz Jr. is a significant contender. Sharp is one of the better turf trainers on the national circuit and Ortiz is the most accomplished rider on the grounds today. At 4-1, this is the most interesting betting angle in the race, as the Ortiz-Sharp connection on a turf router is a live combination.

Princess Attitude (POST 9) at 8-1 for Victoria Oliver and Mario Gutierrez rounds out the top tier.

Longshots

Modarosa (POST 1) at 10-1 for Riley Mott and Junior Alvarado carries the Mott barn name and is worth a small inclusion in exotics. Always Wanting (POST 2) at 30-1 and Top (POST 4) at 30-1, both for Michelle L. Elliott, are deep longshots. Chilled (POST 3) at 20-1 for Victoria Oliver and Marcelino Pedroza and Go Town (POST 5) at 20-1 for Rene Cazares Jr. and Joseph M. Romero are fillers. Calamity (POST 8) at 20-1 for Brendan P. Walsh and Axel Concepcion is noted but faces a big task. Totally Justified (POST 10) at 20-1 for Anna M. Meah and Joseph C. Bealmear is a throwout.

Selections

Win: Charlene's Dream (POST 6) Place: Miwa (POST 7) Show: In The Stars (POST 11)

RACE 9 — Post (4:40) — 1870f | D | N | MHGrgMmHB100k | Purse $100,000

The Merrillville Heritage Grandma Memorial Handicap at 1 1/16 miles on the dirt for fillies and mares. A twelve-horse field with Brad Cox once again represented along with William Mott, Eddie Kenneally, and other national trainers.

Race 9

Pace Analysis

This is a complex pace scenario with twelve horses going 1 1/16 miles. Just Be Quiet (POST 3) and Chilled (POST 8) may establish early, but the larger field and the route distance will likely produce a moderate pace that sets up closers. Yes It Tiz (POST 6) with Irad Ortiz Jr. figures to press or stalk.

Key Contenders

Yes It Tiz (POST 6) at 4-1 for Brad Cox and Irad Ortiz Jr. is the standout selection in this race. Cox's record in Indiana stakes races is exceptional, and having Ortiz Jr. on this horse is the most powerful jockey-trainer combination available in the field. At 4-1, this is fair value for a Cox-Ortiz horse in a stakes at this level.

Too Much Kiki (POST 2) at 4-1 for Bret Calhoun and Axel Concepcion is a co-favorite and legitimate threat. Calhoun is a national-caliber trainer and Concepcion is riding with confidence on this card.

Secondary Choices

Queen Azteca (POST 7) at 5-1 for Rodolphe Brisset and Marcelino Pedroza offers value as the third choice. Brisset has multiple horses on the card today and the stable is clearly targeting this meet aggressively.

Kapoor (POST 11) at 6-1 for William I. Mott and Junior Alvarado is a Mott trainee that commands respect regardless of the odds. Mott's horses rarely appear without purpose.

Clairita (POST 5) at 8-1 for Philip A. Bauer and Luis Saez is another Saez mount to note. Saez on an 8-1 in a stakes race is a price worth exploring.

Longshots

Five A Side (POST 10) at 8-1 for John C. Servis and Fernando De La Cruz is a capable runner with a respected trainer. Anna's Promise (POST 12) at 12-1 for Carlos A. David and Umberto Rispoli has turf experience that may not translate on the dirt. Just Be Quiet (POST 3) at 15-1 for Robert M. Gorham and Joseph D. Ramos is a pace factor at best. Chilled (POST 8) at 15-1 for Victoria Oliver and Mario Gutierrez is a filler. Amarth (POST 4) at 20-1 for Eddie Kenneally and Mitchell Murrill and Night Kiss (POST 9) at 20-1 for Tomas Medina and Alberto Burgos are deep prices. Top (POST 1) at 30-1 for Michelle L. Elliott and Amir Mendoza is a throwout.

Selections

Win: Yes It Tiz (POST 6) Place: Too Much Kiki (POST 2) Show: Kapoor (POST 11)

RACE 10 — Post (5:16) — 1870f | T | N | JBSchstrML100k | Purse $100,000

The John B. Schuster Memorial on the turf at 1 1/16 miles for older males. A ten-horse field with Brad Cox sending out two horses in Wadsworth (POST 3) and Encino (POST 5), and Michael Maker represented by Judge Davis (POST 2). Note that Encino (POST 5) in Race 10 is a different horse than Encino (POST 4) in Race 6, as the names are identical but they run in different races on different surfaces.

Race 10

Pace Analysis

The turf route should develop at a moderate early pace. Higgins Boat (POST 6) and Vote No (POST 1) could be early movers, while Wadsworth (POST 3) and Encino (POST 5) from Cox's barn figure to stalk. The late pace is where the race will be decided.

Key Contenders

Wadsworth (POST 3) at 4-1 for Brad Cox and Irad Ortiz Jr. is the marquee selection in this race. Cox's turf routers are always well-prepared and having Ortiz on the three horse is a powerful combination. This horse should be making a winning move at the quarter pole.

Judge Davis (POST 2) at 5-1 for Michael Maker and Fernando De La Cruz is among the most intriguing angles on the card. The TDN Saratoga Notebook mentioned Maker's improved conditioning as he pursues racing success this meet, and Judge Davis in this spot represents a trainer who is motivated and in form.

Secondary Choices

Encino (POST 5) at 4-1 for Brad Cox and Axel Concepcion is the second Cox entry. As noted in Race 6, between two Cox horses, the one carrying Ortiz is typically the stable's primary hope. Concepcion has been riding with energy on this card however, and Cox entries rarely run off the board.

Vote No (POST 1) at 6-1 for Kelsey Danner and Luis Saez is another Saez mount to monitor. Danner saddles Baby Max (POST 10) in the same race and a Saez selection between the two entries suggests Vote No is the primary runner.

Longshots

Higgins Boat (POST 6) at 6-1 for John Alexander Ortiz and Declan Cannon is a legitimate secondary contender at a fair price. Balnikhov (POST 9) at 8-1 for Philip D'Amato and Umberto Rispoli is a D'Amato turf horse, which always merits attention. D'Amato is among the best turf trainers in the country. Baby Max (POST 10) at 8-1 for Kelsey Danner and Adam Beschizza is worth a look as the second Danner entry. Noises Off (POST 4) at 10-1 for Paulo H. Lobo and Evin A. Roman is a longshot. Clever Mischief (POST 7) at 15-1 for Brendan P. Walsh and Alberto Burgos is a Walsh horse that merits a small exotic inclusion. Seminole Chief (POST 8) at 20-1 for Joe Sharp and Junior Alvarado rounds out the field.

Selections

Win: Wadsworth (POST 3) Place: Judge Davis (POST 2) Show: Balnikhov (POST 9)

RACE 11 — Post (5:55) — 1870f | D | G3 | Indiana Oaks-G3 | Purse $200,000

The Grade 3 Indiana Oaks at 1 1/16 miles on the dirt for 3-year-old fillies. A six-horse field featuring top national connections including Brad Cox's dual entry of Prom Queen (POST 5) and Nahla (POST 2), Bob Baffert's Mizumi (POST 6), Kenneth McPeek's Maximum Offer (POST 3), and Brian Lynch's Betty's Pearl (POST 4).

Race 11

Pace Analysis

With only six horses and multiple quality runners, the pace should be honest but not suicidal. Prom Queen (POST 5) may press or stalk while Mizumi (POST 6) is likely to sit just off the pace. Maximum Offer (POST 3) and Betty's Pearl (POST 4) will find their spots mid-pack. Star Actress (POST 1) with Junior Alvarado from the Mott barn may go forward early.

Key Contenders

Prom Queen (POST 5) is the 2-1 morning-line favorite and the most talked-about horse in this race heading into the weekend. The recent private sale to Delta Squad Racing adds intrigue, as the connections clearly paid a significant sum with confidence in this specific race. Under the care of Brad Cox with Irad Ortiz Jr. up, Prom Queen brings the best trainer-jockey combination in the field and was a Grade 2 winner at Gulfstream Park. Her form entering this spot is excellent and the Cox barn knows this track.

Mizumi (POST 6) at 3-1 for Bob Baffert and Florent Geroux is the logical alternative. Baffert-trained fillies in Grade 3 races at this level are dangerous regardless of where they run, and Geroux is a capable veteran who rides turf and dirt effectively. Mizumi figures to be forwardly placed and can make a sustained run at Prom Queen.

Secondary Choices

Maximum Offer (POST 3) at 4-1 for Kenneth McPeek and Luis Saez is a legitimate threat. McPeek has been active throughout this card and Saez rarely takes a Grade 3 mount he does not believe in. At 4-1, this is fair value in a six-horse field.

Betty's Pearl (POST 4) at 4-1 for Brian Lynch and Mario Gutierrez rounds out the secondary tier. Lynch is a solid trainer with experience at the stakes level and this filly is properly placed.

Longshots

Star Actress (POST 1) at 8-1 for William Mott and Junior Alvarado is never a true throwout when Mott is involved, and Alvarado is an excellent partner in route races. Nahla (POST 2) at 6-1 for Brad Cox and Fernando De La Cruz is the secondary Cox entry. As previously noted, Cox's primary emphasis is Prom Queen (POST 5), but Nahla should be included in all exotic wagers given the trainer's consistent success in this race.

Selections

Win: Prom Queen (POST 5) Place: Mizumi (POST 6) Show: Maximum Offer (POST 3)

RACE 12 — Post (6:40) — 1870f | D | G3 | Indiana Derby-G3 | Purse $300,000

The 32nd running of the Grade 3 Indiana Derby, the richest race of the day and one of the highlights of the Indiana racing calendar. A nine-horse field at 1 1/16 miles on the dirt for 3-year-olds features a genuinely competitive group including a horse making a bold move off a maiden win.

Race 12

Pace Analysis

Desert Gate (POST 9) and Out Of The Woods (POST 7) figure as the controlling pace scenario, while Leading Change (POST 8) has shown impressive early speed in his debut. Creole Chrome (POST 6) and Our Moneyman (POST 4) may stalk. The pace should be honest in a Grade 3 with this caliber of horse, and the race could set up for a horse that rates just off the early pace.

Key Contenders

Desert Gate (POST 9) at 2-1 for Bob Baffert and Florent Geroux is the morning-line favorite from the outside post. Baffert's horses are dangerous at any price, and Geroux is a versatile jockey who can adapt to whatever scenario develops. The outside post at 1 1/16 miles is a concern, but Baffert knows how to position horses from challenging draws. Desert Gate is the horse to beat.

Leading Change (POST 8) at 5-1 for Brad Cox and Irad Ortiz Jr. is the most exciting storyline on the card. The TDN Rising Star designation following his debut win at Churchill Downs on June 7 signals a horse of significant promise, and Cox's decision to skip the softer conditions and go straight to a Grade 3 reflects extreme confidence in this horse's ability. Having Ortiz Jr. on board makes this the most compelling play on the entire card from a value perspective. A debut winner stepping into Grade 3 company carries risk, but the Cox-Ortiz combination at 5-1 demands attention.

Secondary Choices

Out Of The Woods (POST 7) at 4-1 for Philip D'Amato and Luis Saez is a serious alternative. D'Amato's turf horses are well-known nationally, but this race is on the dirt, and if D'Amato is sending this horse, the horse has established himself on the main track as well. Saez is hard to dismiss at any level.

Our Moneyman (POST 4) at 4-1 for Bret Calhoun and Axel Concepcion is Calhoun's best weapon in the feature. Calhoun has run horses well at this track and this colt carries legitimate Grade 3 credentials.

Longshots

Creole Chrome (POST 6) at 6-1 for Joe Sharp and Junior Alvarado is worth a broader exotic play. Sharp has been competitive throughout this card and Alvarado is a capable closer. Zihnal (POST 3) at 12-1 for Jonathan Thomas and Umberto Rispoli is a price that could offer trifecta value. Bricklin (POST 5) at 8-1 for Rodolphe Brisset and Fernando De La Cruz is the second Brisset entry after Lighter (POST 1), and potentially the barn's better shot at the lower price. Lighter (POST 1) at 20-1 for Brisset and Marcelino Pedroza is a longshot. Mister T (POST 2) at 30-1 for Justin Bailey and Mitchell Murrill also ran in Race 5 today, which requires confirmation as a scratch or a legitimate double card entry.

Selections

Win: Desert Gate (POST 9) Place: Leading Change (POST 8) Show: Out Of The Woods (POST 7)

RACE 13 — Post (7:06) — 1870f | T | S | Md Sp Wt | Purse $36,000

The closing race of the day is a maiden special weight at 1 1/16 miles on the turf for fillies and mares. A ten-horse field with Hotline Iris (POST 9) at 2-1 as the morning-line favorite.

Race 13

Pace Analysis

The turf route at this distance tends to be slow early before accelerating in the final quarter. Haziel (POST 5) and Lovers Carril (POST 8) may press forward, while Hotline Iris (POST 9) figures to stalk and close under R. Prescott.

Key Contenders

Hotline Iris (POST 9) at 2-1 for Robert E. Dobbs Jr. and R. Prescott is the clear morning-line favorite and the horse to beat in the nightcap. Dobbs Jr. has been active throughout this card with multiple runners and his horses have appeared well-prepared.

Lovers Carril (POST 8) at 5-1 for Jeff A. Hiles and Fernando De La Cruz is the most interesting price at the top of the card. De La Cruz has been consistent throughout the day and an active jockey finishing a long card with a live mount can be dangerous.

Secondary Choices

Haziel (POST 5) at 4-1 for John L. Langemeier and Marcelino Pedroza is the third option in this field. Langemeier is a known local conditioner and Pedroza has been reliable all day. Dreaming Bonita (POST 10) at 6-1 for Rene Cazares Jr. and Alexander Crispin rounds out the secondary tier.

Longshots

Koger Lane (POST 3) at 8-1 for Aaron M. West and Mitchell Murrill deserves a look on the turf at a fair price. Uncles Lil Trophy (POST 1) at 10-1 for Tim Eggleston and Andres P. Ulloa is a filler. Beautiful Ester (POST 4) at 15-1 for Anthony J. Granitz and Joseph D. Ramos and Moon Lite Girl (POST 7) at 15-1 for James Egbert and Joseph M. Romero are deep longshots. Amy El (POST 2) at 20-1 for Robert C. Sturgeon and Joseph C. Bealmear and Country Embrace (POST 6) at 20-1 for Anthony J. Granitz and Alex Achard are throwouts.

Selections

Win: Hotline Iris (POST 9) Place: Lovers Carril (POST 8) Show: Haziel (POST 5)

Jockey Notes and Insights

Irad Ortiz Jr. is the most accomplished jockey on the grounds today. Noted in TDN as currently working toward his eighth Saratoga title, Ortiz has clearly carved out time to ride at Indianapolis given the quality of the card. His mounts deserve a premium: Fun On The Bayou (POST 8) in Race 1, Instant Replay (POST 6) in Race 6, Yes It Tiz (POST 6) in Race 9, Miwa (POST 7) in Race 8, Wadsworth (POST 3) in Race 10, Prom Queen (POST 5) in Race 11, and Leading Change (POST 8) in Race 12. In nearly every case, the Ortiz horse is either the top selection or a live alternative. Any day an Ortiz book this strong appears at a secondary circuit venue, the public should follow aggressively.

Luis Saez is the second most prominent jockey on the card. His mounts include Beau Cup (POST 8) in Race 4, Kaboom (POST 8) in Race 7, Vote No (POST 1) in Race 10, Gould's Gold (POST 9) in Race 6, Clairita (POST 5) in Race 9, Maximum Offer (POST 3) in Race 11, and Out Of The Woods (POST 7) in Race 12. Saez consistently accepts mounts he believes in at the stakes level and his book across this card should be mined for value.

Fernando De La Cruz has the largest book on the card for a local or regional rider, with mounts in nearly every race. He has been consistent and reliable throughout the meet and provides strong local knowledge. Key rides include Lil Gin N Class (POST 6) in Race 1, Keepin It Classy (POST 2) in Race 2, Encino (POST 5) in Race 10, Nahla (POST 2) in Race 11, Bricklin (POST 5) in Race 12, and Lovers Carril (POST 8) in Race 13.

Marcelino Pedroza handles a heavy local book including Don't Miss Out (POST 1) in Race 1, Q's Topnotch (POST 4) in Race 5, and Queen Azteca (POST 7) in Race 9. Pedroza is a solid regional rider who knows this track well.

Junior Alvarado handles the Mott barn throughout the card, including Bendoog (POST 8) in Race 6, Modarosa (POST 1) in Race 8, Kapoor (POST 11) in Race 9, Creole Chrome (POST 6) in Race 12, and Star Actress (POST 1) in Race 11. The Mott-Alvarado partnership is respected at every level of the game.

Trainer Notes and Insights

Brad Cox enters this day as the dominant national trainer presence at Horseshoe Indianapolis. His record of three Indiana Derby wins in the last six editions, including Shared Sense in 2020, Verifying in 2023, and Dragoon Guard in 2024, makes his runners in the feature mandatory considerations. Cox enters two horses in the Indiana Derby, with Leading Change (POST 8) representing the most exciting new addition to the 3-year-old landscape. He also saddles the Oaks favorite Prom Queen (POST 5), dual entries in the Schaefer Memorial and the turf mile, and representatives in the distaff 1 1/16 route. Cox's ability to manage multiple high-stakes runners on a single card while maintaining competitive preparation is a sign of elite training.

William I. Mott enters Bendoog (POST 8) in Race 6 as the race favorite, a horse that carries every bit of credibility his trainer's reputation implies. Mott also sends out Kapoor (POST 11) in Race 9 and Star Actress (POST 1) in Race 11. Mott horses shipping to secondary markets are reliably serious.

Bob Baffert enters Desert Gate (POST 9) in the Indiana Derby as the morning-line favorite and Mizumi (POST 6) in the Indiana Oaks as the second choice. Baffert's national presence in these Indiana stakes elevates the quality of both fields and his horses always deserve full respect.

Kenneth McPeek saddles Gould's Gold (POST 9) in Race 6 and Maximum Offer (POST 3) in Race 11. McPeek's knowledge of this meet and his ability to prepare horses for Grade 3 competition is well-documented.

Rodolphe Brisset enters multiple horses throughout the card, suggesting an aggressive targeting of the Indianapolis card. His runners include Ibuki (POST 3) in Race 1, Queen Azteca (POST 7) in Race 9, Lighter (POST 1) and Bricklin (POST 5) in Race 12.

Philip D'Amato's Balnikhov (POST 9) in Race 10 and Out Of The Woods (POST 7) in Race 12 represent a national trainer known primarily for turf, but Out of the Woods on the dirt in the Indiana Derby is worth noting if D'Amato is comfortable sending this horse on the main track.

Joe Sharp saddles Miwa (POST 7) in Race 8, Seminole Chief (POST 8) in Race 10, and Creole Chrome (POST 6) in Race 12. Sharp's turf runners are dangerous and Miwa in particular represents strong value.

Best Wagering Strategies and Value Plays

The card at Horseshoe Indianapolis today is structured to reward bettors who follow the top national connections while identifying value within their booking. The following strategies are recommended.

The single most compelling bet on the card is Leading Change (POST 8) to win the Indiana Derby in Race 12. A TDN Rising Star with Brad Cox training and Irad Ortiz Jr. riding at 5-1 against a morning-line favorite trained by Bob Baffert in a Grade 3 on the biggest day of the meet is a classic overlay situation. Cox knows this track, Ortiz knows how to win big races, and a debut winner with this pedigree jumping straight into Grade 3 company is a bold move that speaks to Cox's supreme confidence. The 5-1 price is generous and should be backed to win with meaningful investment.

The second most compelling single win bet is Miwa (POST 7) in Race 8 at 4-1 for Joe Sharp and Irad Ortiz Jr. The Sharp-Ortiz combination on a turf horse in a stakes race is a powerful angle and 4-1 is a fair price for this caliber of connection.

For the Indiana Derby exacta, the box of Leading Change (POST 8) and Desert Gate (POST 9) is worth playing, with a key of Leading Change (POST 8) on top of Desert Gate (POST 9), Out Of The Woods (POST 7), and Our Moneyman (POST 4) as the primary exacta structure.

The Indiana Oaks trifecta should be structured as Prom Queen (POST 5) on top with Mizumi (POST 6) and Maximum Offer (POST 3) for the second position and the full field underneath for third. The six-horse field makes this a manageable trifecta.

For a Pick 4 running through Races 9 through 12, consider the following structure: Yes It Tiz (POST 6) in Race 9 with Wadsworth (POST 3) in Race 10 with Prom Queen (POST 5) in Race 11 with Leading Change (POST 8) and Desert Gate (POST 9) in Race 12. This pick 4 ticket uses Cox-Ortiz horses as singles in three of the four legs, which is a high-variance but high-reward approach on a card this dominated by one trainer-jockey pairing.

For a late Pick 5 running Races 9 through 13, add Hotline Iris (POST 9) as a single in Race 13 to complete the sequence. The nightcap favorite is strongly positioned and can anchor the ticket at a manageable cost.

The best longshot play on the card is Balnikhov (POST 9) at 8-1 in Race 10 for Philip D'Amato and Umberto Rispoli. D'Amato shipping a turf horse to Indiana for a $100,000 turf stakes is a purposeful move, and Rispoli is a capable turf jockey. At 8-1, this is a live dart in a race where the favorite carries a significant burden of proof.

For bettors looking for a single exotic play with upside, the Race 12 trifecta of Leading Change (POST 8) over Desert Gate (POST 9) over Out Of The Woods (POST 7) or Our Moneyman (POST 4) offers a potential payout that would reward the handicapping work required to identify the Cox-Ortiz angle in the feature.
