Race Day Overview — Los Alamitos, Sunday August 23, 2026

Los Alamitos Race Course presents a nine-race card on Sunday, August 23, 2026, with first post set for 9:50 AM Pacific. The entire card is contested on the main dirt track at the Cypress, California oval, with Races 1 through 8 run as 350-yard All-Or-None trials, each carrying a $6,000 purse. The card concludes with the featured Race 9, a $75,000 stakes event at 400 yards — the marquee event of the afternoon and the race that will draw the sharpest attention from serious quarter horse bettors across Southern California and beyond.

The trial format that dominates today's card deserves special attention from a wagering perspective. All-Or-None trials mean that in the event of a dead heat or disqualification, all win wagers are refunded — a significant structural consideration when building exotic tickets. The trial races are essentially qualification heats, and horses are running to earn placement in a future final, which means some connections may be conservative in terms of asking horses for maximum effort if they feel assured of a qualifying position. That said, at this purse level, connections are generally running hard.

The featured Race 9 is a $75,000 stakes at 400 yards — a full furlong longer than the trial races — and it brings together some legitimate talent including the heavily favored Lethal Cowboy 123 (POST 3), who opened as the 1-1 morning line choice under trainer Marc Jungers.

The Borell licensing situation in Kentucky and the HISA database transparency story circulating in industry media this week do not have direct bearing on today's Los Alamitos card, but the broader conversation about regulatory oversight is worth keeping in mind as exotic handle at smaller tracks continues to attract scrutiny.

Weather and Track Conditions — Los Alamitos, August 23, 2026

August in the Los Angeles basin brings reliably warm, dry conditions, and today is no exception. Temperatures at Cypress are forecast in the mid-80s Fahrenheit with low humidity, light westerly winds, and no precipitation in the forecast. The track is expected to be listed as fast.

Los Alamitos maintains one of the most consistent dirt surfaces in North American quarter horse racing. The track is a tight oval with a short stretch, and the maintenance crew keeps the strip firm and true through the summer months. No unusual harrowing, watering, or surface alteration has been reported ahead of today's card. Expect a fast, uniform track that rewards horses with clean breaks and early acceleration — the fundamental currency of quarter horse racing at this distance.

Track Bias and Post Position Analysis

At Los Alamitos, post position bias at 350 yards is one of the most important pre-race handicapping factors on the card. The track is narrow and the trip from the gate to the wire is essentially a straight sprint with almost no margin for recovery after a poor start.

At 350 yards, inside posts (1 through 3) historically carry a slight advantage in terms of the shortest path to the wire, but gates at Los Alamitos are generally even and the bias is less pronounced than at some tracks. Middle posts (3 through 5) tend to produce the most winners over a large sample, and outside posts (6 through 8) can be compromised if a horse gets squeezed or bumped at the break. In tight fields, outside posts become more manageable, but in full gates of seven or eight horses, post 7 and post 8 carry a statistical disadvantage.

At 400 yards, the featured distance in Race 9, the post position dynamics shift slightly. The longer run gives horses more time to overcome initial positional disadvantages, and pace becomes slightly more relevant than at 350. Inside posts still hold a nominal edge, but a horse with elite early speed from an outside post can overcome position if the break is clean.

For today's card, pay attention to middle posts in the trial races, particularly posts 3, 4, and 5. In races where a heavy favorite draws an outside post, the morning line may underestimate the degree of difficulty. Conversely, when a lightly regarded horse draws a favorable inside or middle post, there is overlay potential worth exploring.

RACE 1 — Post 9:50 AM PT — 350f | D | N | Trial | AON | Purse $6,000

Pace Analysis

With seven horses breaking from the gate over 350 yards, this race will be decided in the first two jumps. There is no pace scenario to dissect in the traditional sense — every horse in the field will be asked to run at maximum effort from the bell. The key variables are gate speed, stride length, and consistency of the break. Zionsville (POST 4) draws a perfect middle post and is the 1-1 morning line favorite, while Shes Jess Shinning (POST 3) and Rational (POST 7) figure as the primary threats.

Key Contenders

Zionsville (POST 4) draws the enviable post 4 position and opens as the heavy 1-1 morning line choice for trainer James W. Glenn Jr. and jockey Cesar Ortega. Glenn is a solid presence at Los Alamitos and his barn consistently produces horses that fire fresh in trial situations. Post 4 at 350 yards is nearly ideal, and the 1-1 price suggests the connections have genuine confidence. Ortega is a capable hand who knows this oval well. If Zionsville (POST 4) fires anything close to his best, he should be controlling his lane from gate to wire.

Shes Jess Shinning (POST 3) is the 3-1 second choice trained by Felix L. Gonzalez with Erasmo Gasca in the irons. Gonzalez has a solid book of juveniles at Los Alamitos, and Shes Jess Shinning (POST 3) draws adjacent to the favorite in post 3, which is a clean, favorable position. At 3-1, this filly or colt represents fair value if the favorite is vulnerable.

Secondary Choices

Rational (POST 7) is the 4-1 third choice for trainer Paul C. Jones, one of the more consistent conditioners at this level. The outside post 7 is a concern in a field of seven at 350 yards — any interference in the first stride is costly. Eduardo Nicasio takes the mount. Jones runners frequently run to form, and if Rational (POST 7) breaks cleanly despite the outside draw, the talent appears to be there. The post is the primary risk factor.

Longshots

Sweet Aguila Mere (POST 1) at 10-1 for trainer Rudolfo Viramontes draws the rail but is lightly regarded. Post 1 can be problematic if a horse gets squeezed from the right, and the 10-1 morning line reflects modest expectations.

Bridgewater (POST 2) at 10-1 for Jose Flores with Irving Lara in the irons is part of the Flores barn, which does place horses competitively at this level. Bridgewater (POST 2) is worth a small look if Flores has been pointing this horse toward today.

Queenship (POST 6) at 10-1 for trainer Scott L. Willoughby with Ricardo S. Ramirez up is another outside draw that complicates any projection. Willoughby is one of the more active trainers on the card today and worth watching for barn patterns across the card.

Elicit Favorite (POST 5) at 20-1 is the longest shot in the field for trainer Juan G. Aleman and jockey Martin Arriaga. Aleman runs multiple horses across today's card, and at 20-1, Elicit Favorite (POST 5) is a throw-out for win purposes but might land in a trifecta at a price.

Selections

Win: Zionsville (POST 4) Place: Shes Jess Shinning (POST 3) Show: Rational (POST 7)

RACE 2 — Post 10:16 AM PT — 350f | D | N | Trial | AON | Purse $6,000

Pace Analysis

Race 2 is an eight-horse field at 350 yards with Mp Jess Rockin (POST 6) opening as the 2-1 morning line favorite. The pace picture is identical to Race 1 — a flat-out sprint from the gate with no quarter given. In an eight-horse field, outside posts become more consequential. Cyber Eyes (POST 3) and Dice Game (POST 4) draw the most favorable positions in the gate, while Mp Jess Rockin (POST 6) must overcome a moderate outside draw to fulfill the role of favorite.

Key Contenders

Mp Jess Rockin (POST 6) is the 2-1 morning line choice for trainer Sergio Morfin with Ricardo S. Ramirez in the irons. This is one of the more interesting barn-jockey combinations on the card. Morfin is a competent trainer at Los Alamitos who is capable of sending out horses fit and ready. The post 6 draw in an eight-horse field is a mild negative at 350 yards — Ramirez will need a clean, unimpeded break to make the morning line stand up. At 2-1, the price is fair but not generous.

Cyber Eyes (POST 3) at 3-1 for trainer Jose Flores and jockey Irving Lara draws one of the best posts in the race. Flores has multiple runners on the card today, which can be a positive indicator of a barn in good form. Cyber Eyes (POST 3) at 3-1 with a favorable gate position deserves serious consideration as a potential upset vehicle.

Secondary Choices

Dice Game (POST 4) at 4-1 for trainer Scott L. Willoughby draws post 4, the center of the gate. Gabriel Angel Gomez Lara takes the mount. Willoughby has horses spread across the card today, and Dice Game (POST 4) in the ideal post at a reasonable price is a sneaky angle. If the Willoughby barn is live today — and the volume of starters suggests the barn is in motion — Dice Game (POST 4) could easily run past the 2-1 favorite.

Uptick (POST 1) at 5-1 for Juan G. Aleman and Martin Arriaga draws the rail. In a wide-open field, Arriaga is a capable rider who can navigate traffic, but the rail in a full gate has inherent risks.

Longshots

Favorite Consent (POST 2) at 8-1 for Jesus Nunez and Jesus Rios Ayala draws post 2 and offers a price with some positional logic. Favorite Consent (POST 2) is not a headline horse but the gate position is workable.

Kr Candy Dragon (POST 8) at 8-1 for Juan G. Aleman and Henry Reynoso Lopez draws the far outside post 8 in an eight-horse field. Gate position is a serious issue at 350 yards, and this price may underestimate the post disadvantage.

Pelaossecretmongoose (POST 5) at 10-1 for trainer Elena Andrade and jockey R. Aceves is one of the more obscurely named horses on the card. At 10-1 from post 5, there is mild exotic appeal but insufficient form to project with confidence.

Igotaheartlikeatruck (POST 7) at 20-1 for trainer Valentin A. Zamudio and jockey Reuben Lozano draws post 7 in a crowded field. The long odds and outside draw make this a trifecta-only consideration at best.

Selections

Win: Mp Jess Rockin (POST 6) Place: Cyber Eyes (POST 3) Show: Dice Game (POST 4)

RACE 3 — Post 10:40 AM PT — 350f | D | N | Trial | AON | Purse $6,000

Pace Analysis

Race 3 presents a rare co-favorite situation, with Contentious (POST 2) and Lonely At Night (POST 6) both listed at 2-1 on the morning line. Rr Gotta Run (POST 7) at 5-1 adds a third legitimate contender. In a seven-horse field at 350 yards, the two co-favorites have very different post positions — Contentious (POST 2) has an inside draw while Lonely At Night (POST 6) draws outside. The pace is academic — maximum from the gun — but the gate positions create an interesting analytical split.

Key Contenders

Contentious (POST 2) is the 2-1 morning line co-favorite for trainer Paul C. Jones with Eduardo Nicasio in the irons. Post 2 is inside and clean, giving Contentious (POST 2) a clear path to the wire without interference from the right. Jones is one of the more productive trainers on today's card, and Contentious (POST 2) figures prominently. The inside draw is a genuine edge over the co-favorite.

Lonely At Night (POST 6) is the 2-1 co-favorite for trainer Mike Casselman and jockey Justine Klaiber. Despite sharing the morning line price with Contentious (POST 2), the outside post 6 in a seven-horse field adds risk. Klaiber is a capable rider who handles this track well, and Casselman is a respected conditioner. If the break is clean, Lonely At Night (POST 6) has the talent to win, but the inside draw gives Contentious (POST 2) a meaningful edge on paper.

Secondary Choices

Rr Gotta Run (POST 7) at 5-1 for trainer Jose Flores and jockey Irving Lara draws the outside post 7 in a seven-horse field — another outside draw concern. However, Flores has multiple horses running today, and if this barn is sharp, Rr Gotta Run (POST 7) could surprise.

Longshots

Flying Fast 123 (POST 1) at 8-1 for Juan G. Aleman and Martin Arriaga draws the rail. In a seven-horse field, post 1 is less problematic than in a full eight-horse gate, and 8-1 may represent some value if Aleman has this horse pointed correctly.

Getting Higher (POST 3) at 8-1 for Scott Willoughby and Gabriel Angel Gomez Lara draws a middle post and offers a price. Willoughby again has a runner mid-card. The 8-1 price combined with post 3 makes Getting Higher (POST 3) an interesting trifecta deeper.

Favorite Daytona (POST 4) at 8-1 for trainer Jaime H. Gomez and Henry Reynoso Lopez draws post 4, the geometric center of the gate. At 8-1, this is arguably underpriced structurally given the post advantage. Worth including in trifectas and superfectas.

Lightning Capo (POST 5) at 15-1 for Felix L. Gonzalez and Erasmo Gasca is the longest shot in the field. At 350 yards, 15-1 shots occasionally find daylight if the gate opens well, but the odds reflect a wide gap in projected ability. Use sparingly in bottom of superfectas.

Selections

Win: Contentious (POST 2) Place: Lonely At Night (POST 6) Show: Rr Gotta Run (POST 7)

RACE 4 — Post 11:04 AM PT — 350f | D | N | Trial | AON | Purse $6,000

Pace Analysis

Golden Token (POST 2) is the heavy 1-1 morning line favorite for trainer Valentin A. Zamudio, while Jessonefamouseagle (POST 7) at 2-1 is the clear second choice. The contrast in post positions is stark — Golden Token (POST 2) draws adjacent to the rail with a clean path, while Jessonefamouseagle (POST 7) draws the far outside in a seven-horse field. This post position dynamic sets up a potentially interesting pace scenario and potential overlay situation.

Key Contenders

Golden Token (POST 2) at 1-1 for Valentin A. Zamudio and Reuben Lozano is the morning line favorite and draws a favorable post 2. Zamudio has multiple runners on the card, which suggests a barn in active training form. Golden Token (POST 2) with Lozano from post 2 is a structurally sound play. At 1-1, there is no overlay here, but the favorite deserves respect.

Jessonefamouseagle (POST 7) at 2-1 for trainer Paul C. Jones and Henry Reynoso Lopez is the chief rival but draws post 7 in a seven-horse field. Jones has been consistently competitive on today's card, and Lopez is one of the stronger jockeys in today's book. The outside post is a handicapping negative at 350 yards, and 2-1 with post 7 creates a potential short-priced underlay. If Jessonefamouseagle (POST 7) wins despite the post disadvantage, it will validate the talent level significantly.

Secondary Choices

Aj Your Favorite (POST 3) at 6-1 for trainer Eddie D. Willis and Justine Klaiber draws the center of the gate and offers reasonable value at the price. Willis is a lesser-volume trainer whose horses often run to form when entered. KLAIBER has been riding well, and Aj Your Favorite (POST 3) at 6-1 from post 3 is a live overlay candidate.

Longshots

Wee Political (POST 1) at 8-1 for Juan G. Aleman and Martin Arriaga draws the rail in a field that is top-heavy in terms of talent concentration. At 8-1 from the rail, ARRIAGA will need to find daylight quickly.

Gorgeous Guy (POST 6) at 8-1 for Scott Willoughby and Gabriel Angel Gomez Lara is another Willoughby runner drawing an outside post. The trainer volume from Willoughby today is notable, and Gorgeous Guy (POST 6) at 8-1 in a race where the short-priced favorite draws a favorable post deserves trifecta inclusion.

Jessforlyndsie (POST 4) at 20-1 for Jose Flores and Irving Lara draws the center of the gate but is lightly regarded at 20-1. Flores is a live barn today, and 20-1 may represent some trifecta value.

Like To Shine (POST 5) at 15-1 for Mike Casselman and Edwin G. Escobedo is a deeper longshot. Casselman's horses are well-conditioned at this level, and Like To Shine (POST 5) at 15-1 is a minimal superfecta inclusion.

Selections

Win: Golden Token (POST 2) Place: Aj Your Favorite (POST 3) Show: Jessonefamouseagle (POST 7)

RACE 5 — Post 11:28 AM PT — 350f | D | N | Trial | AON | Purse $6,000

Pace Analysis

Race 5 features Test Pilot (POST 6) as the 2-1 morning line favorite for trainer Jose Flores, with Indiana Fever (POST 7) at 3-1 and Ab Elite Blood (POST 2) at 4-1 as the primary contenders. Notably, the two favorites draw the outside posts 6 and 7 in a seven-horse field. The three horses with the most favorable inside or middle posts — College Boy (POST 1), Ab Elite Blood (POST 2), and Ximenarey (POST 3) — include one of the primary contenders, setting up an interesting dynamic.

Key Contenders

Test Pilot (POST 6) at 2-1 for Jose Flores and Ricardo S. Ramirez is the morning line favorite but must overcome post 6 in a seven-horse field at 350 yards. Flores is clearly in form today with multiple runners across the card, and Test Pilot (POST 6) is presumably among the barn's better horses given the favorite status. Ramirez is an experienced hand at this track. The outside draw is a concern, but talent and barn form can overcome marginal post disadvantages.

Indiana Fever (POST 7) at 3-1 for Mike Casselman and Justine Klaiber draws post 7 — the most exposed position in the gate. Casselman's barn has been productive, and Klaiber is a capable rider. The combination of an outside post and a 3-1 price in a race dominated by outside draws creates a situation where the inside post horses may be significantly undervalued on the morning line.

Secondary Choices

Ab Elite Blood (POST 2) at 4-1 for Juan G. Aleman and Martin Arriaga draws post 2 and represents potentially the best post-to-price relationship in the race. Aleman has runners throughout the card, and if this horse is among his better prospects, 4-1 from post 2 could be the value play of the morning. ARRIAGA rides well at Los Alamitos and knows how to maximize inside breaks.

Ximenarey (POST 3) at 6-1 for trainer Jaime H. Gomez and Jesus Rios Ayala draws post 3 — another favorable gate position. At 6-1, Ximenarey (POST 3) offers genuine overlay potential given that the two horses priced below it are running from outside posts.

Longshots

Romoland (POST 4) at 6-1 for Paul C. Jones and Eduardo Nicasio draws post 4. Jones continues to be a productive trainer on today's card, and Romoland (POST 4) at 6-1 from a neutral center post warrants inclusion in all exotic wagers.

Czech Berry Delight (POST 5) at 10-1 for Felix L. Gonzalez and Henry Reynoso Lopez draws post 5. At 10-1, there is trifecta value here, particularly given the favorable post position relative to the morning line price.

College Boy (POST 1) at 8-1 for James W. Glenn Jr. and Cesar Ortega draws the rail. Glenn has a horse in Race 1 who figures prominently, and College Boy (POST 1) at 8-1 from the rail is a deeper exotic play.

Selections

Win: Ab Elite Blood (POST 2) Place: Test Pilot (POST 6) Show: Ximenarey (POST 3)

RACE 6 — Post 11:52 AM PT — 350f | D | N | Trial | AON | Purse $6,000

Pace Analysis

Race 6 is the most lopsided morning line on the card, with Cv Fdddinasty Shan (POST 7) installed at 1-1 by trainer Lindolfo Diaz. Faultless (POST 3) at 2-1 is the clear second choice. The morning line favorite draws post 7 in an eight-horse field, which at 350 yards is a significant structural concern despite the horse's obvious ability edge over the field. This creates one of the more interesting wagering situations on the card.

Key Contenders

Cv Fdddinasty Shan (POST 7) at 1-1 for trainer Lindolfo Diaz and Jesus Rios Ayala is a horse that the morning line maker clearly believes is dramatically superior to this field. Despite the post 7 draw in eight horses, the 1-1 price suggests that class advantage outweighs the post disadvantage in the market's view. If Cv Fdddinasty Shan (POST 7) breaks cleanly, the talent level should be sufficient to overcome position.

Faultless (POST 3) at 2-1 for Scott Willoughby and Gabriel Angel Gomez Lara draws one of the better gate positions in the race and is priced as the main rival to the favorite. Willoughby continues to run horses throughout the card, and Faultless (POST 3) from post 3 is a legitimate win contender if the 1-1 favorite stumbles at the gate. The post advantage relative to the favorite is a meaningful factor.

Secondary Choices

Celtic Cowboy (POST 6) at 5-1 for Jose Flores and Irving Lara draws post 6 adjacent to the favorite. At 5-1, Celtic Cowboy (POST 6) is the third choice and worth including in exacta wheels if you're using Faultless (POST 3) over the top.

Smilinthruthetears (POST 8) at 8-1 for Sergio Morfin and Justine Klaiber draws the far outside post 8 in an eight-horse field. The post is the most exposed position on the track, and 8-1 may not adequately compensate for the structural disadvantage. However, Morfin and Klaiber have shown the ability to make outside posts work.

Longshots

Talk To Yourself (POST 2) at 20-1 for Juan G. Aleman and Jesse P. Gonzalez draws post 2 and, despite the distant morning line odds, at least has a favorable gate position. Aleman has multiple runners today, and the 20-1 price from post 2 deserves a small superfecta look.

High Resolve (POST 4) at 20-1 for Juan G. Aleman and Martin Arriaga draws the center post. Another Aleman runner at 20-1 — the trainer clearly has multiple horses entered across the card, and one of them may surprise. ARRIAGA knows how to break from post 4.

Sema (POST 1) at 20-1 for Valentin Zamudio and Reuben Lozano draws the rail at 20-1. In an eight-horse field, the rail can be difficult if the speed comes from outside. Bottom of superfectas only.

The Red Boy (POST 5) at 30-1 for Jesus Nunez and Damian Diaz Cruz is the longest shot in the field at 30-1. At 350 yards, a 30-1 shot represents near-throwout status for win purposes but can land in deeper exotics on a good day.

Selections

Win: Cv Fdddinasty Shan (POST 7) Place: Faultless (POST 3) Show: Celtic Cowboy (POST 6)

RACE 7 — Post 12:18 PM PT — 350f | D | N | Trial | AON | Purse $6,000

Pace Analysis

Race 7 presents a co-favorite situation with Nuclear Arsenal (POST 3) and Still Standing (POST 5) both listed at 2-1. The two favorites draw significantly different posts — Nuclear Arsenal (POST 3) benefits from an inside draw while Still Standing (POST 5) is positioned in the middle. Blackk Maggic (POST 6) and Famous Cowboy To You (POST 7) at 4-1 each add legitimate competition in the mid-price range.

Key Contenders

Nuclear Arsenal (POST 3) at 2-1 for trainer Paul C. Jones and Eduardo Nicasio draws post 3, which is the more favorable of the two co-favorite posts. Jones has been a consistent presence throughout today's card and is running horses that are clearly prepared. Post 3 from the inside gives Nuclear Arsenal (POST 3) a clear path, and at 2-1, the price is fair for a horse with gate position working in its favor.

Still Standing (POST 5) at 2-1 for trainer James W. Glenn Jr. and Oscar M. Peinado draws the neutral post 5. Glenn also has Zionsville (POST 4) in Race 1 and College Boy (POST 1) in Race 5. If Glenn's barn is running sharp today, Still Standing (POST 5) could be the most dangerous horse in the field. Peinado is a capable hand at this track. Splitting the morning line between two horses at 2-1 suggests genuine uncertainty at the top.

Secondary Choices

Blackk Maggic (POST 6) at 4-1 for trainer Cesar De Alba and jockey Cesar Franco draws post 6. De Alba is not as prominently represented on today's card as some of the other trainers, which can occasionally mean a focused single-horse effort. At 4-1 with Franco in the irons, Blackk Maggic (POST 6) is a legitimate exacta and trifecta contender.

Famous Cowboy To You (POST 7) at 4-1 for Jose Flores and Irving Lara draws post 7, the outside position. Flores has been active throughout the card, and Famous Cowboy To You (POST 7) at 4-1 is priced as a co-equal third choice despite the outside draw. The price may be slightly generous given the post concern.

Longshots

Scary Sherry (POST 1) at 6-1 for Scott Willoughby and Gabriel Angel Gomez Lara draws the rail. Willoughby has been running horses throughout the card. At 6-1 from the rail, Scary Sherry (POST 1) is a trifecta play if the gate break is clean.

Cyber Charm (POST 2) at 12-1 for Juan G. Aleman and Jesse P. Gonzalez draws post 2 at a generous price. Aleman's barn is all over this card, and Cyber Charm (POST 2) at 12-1 from an inside post is a deep exotic play worth including for the price.

Rock It Felix (POST 4) at 20-1 for Jesus Nunez and Jesus Rios Ayala draws post 4 at 20-1. The post is favorable but the odds reflect a wide class gap. Superfecta filler only.

Selections

Win: Nuclear Arsenal (POST 3) Place: Still Standing (POST 5) Show: Blackk Maggic (POST 6)

RACE 8 — Post 12:42 PM PT — 350f | D | N | Trial | AON | Purse $6,000

Pace Analysis

Race 8 is an eight-horse field with Ap First To Rocket (POST 7) as the 2-1 morning line favorite for trainer Valentin A. Zamudio. Redd Line (POST 1) and Sister Rae (POST 6) at 4-1 each are the primary secondary choices. Jaque (POST 8) also opens at 4-1. With the favorite in post 7 and multiple 4-1 horses scattered across the field, this is among the more competitive races on the card from a wagering perspective.

Key Contenders

Ap First To Rocket (POST 7) at 2-1 for Valentin A. Zamudio and Reuben Lozano is the morning line favorite despite drawing post 7 in an eight-horse field. Zamudio has multiple horses running today, and Ap First To Rocket (POST 7) is clearly the barn's best of the day if the 2-1 morning line is to be believed. The outside draw at 350 yards remains a structural concern, and at 2-1 with post 7, this may be a slight underlay. Lozano knows the track well, which mitigates some of the concern.

Redd Line (POST 1) at 4-1 for Sergio Morfin and Jesus Rios Ayala draws the rail. Morfin had Mp Jess Rockin (POST 6) as the morning line favorite in Race 2, which suggests the barn is in active form. Redd Line (POST 1) at 4-1 from the rail with Ayala in the irons is an interesting play — the gate position offers the shortest path to the wire if the break is clean.

Sister Rae (POST 6) at 4-1 for Scott Willoughby and Gabriel Angel Gomez Lara draws post 6. Willoughby has been all over this card, and Sister Rae (POST 6) represents another live runner from the barn at a playable price. With the favorite drawing outside and two 4-1 horses offering different gate positions, there is genuine exacta value in pairing Redd Line (POST 1) over Sister Rae (POST 6) or vice versa.

Secondary Choices

Jaque (POST 8) at 4-1 for Jose Flores and Irving Lara draws the far outside post 8. Flores has been running horses throughout the card, and Jaque (POST 8) co-priced with the other 4-1 horses raises eyebrows given the post disadvantage. At 350 yards, post 8 in a full eight-horse field is the most exposed position on the track.

Longshots

Byeanose (POST 3) at 8-1 for trainer Roman Figueroa and Edwin G. Escobedo draws post 3. Figueroa is not as prominently featured on today's card, which can be either a sign of a low-key barn or a focused effort on a single horse. At 8-1 from post 3, Byeanose (POST 3) is trifecta material.

Valiant Resolve (POST 4) at 8-1 for Eddie D. Willis and Justine Klaiber draws post 4 in the center of the gate. Willis had Aj Your Favorite (POST 3) at 6-1 in Race 4, and if the barn is running consistent horses, Valiant Resolve (POST 4) at 8-1 from a favorable center post warrants consideration.

Martha Starr (POST 5) at 10-1 for Paul C. Jones and Ricardo S. Ramirez draws post 5. Jones has been active throughout the card, and Martha Starr (POST 5) at 10-1 from a neutral post is worth a trifecta look.

Jess Like Beth (POST 2) at 12-1 for Juan G. Aleman and Martin Arriaga draws post 2 adjacent to the rail. Aleman has been everywhere today, and Jess Like Beth (POST 2) at 12-1 from an inside post is a deeper exotic option.

Selections

Win: Ap First To Rocket (POST 7) Place: Redd Line (POST 1) Show: Sister Rae (POST 6)

RACE 9 — Post 1:06 PM PT — 400f | D | N | Stakes | Purse $75,000

Pace Analysis

Race 9 is the marquee event of the day at a full 400 yards — one-quarter mile — and carries a $75,000 purse that draws a different caliber of athlete than the $6,000 trial races that preceded it. At 400 yards, pace plays a slightly larger role than at 350, and the additional yards give horses more time to establish position and show sustained speed. Lethal Cowboy 123 (POST 3) is the dominant 1-1 morning line favorite, while Astronomical 123 (POST 6) at 4-1 is the clear second choice. Scoops Dynasty (POST 4) at 5-1 rounds out the top three in the morning line.

The “123” suffix shared by Lethal Cowboy 123 (POST 3) and Astronomical 123 (POST 6) suggests both horses have likely qualified through trial races, reinforcing the stakes nature of this event. At 400 yards, the ability to maintain maximum effort through the wire is essential, and horses with strong trial form at the shorter distance sometimes show an improvement at the added yardage.

Key Contenders

Lethal Cowboy 123 (POST 3) at 1-1 for trainer Marc E. Jungers and Edwin G. Escobedo is the clear public choice and draws a favorable post 3. Jungers is a respected trainer in the quarter horse ranks, and a 1-1 morning line price on a stakes day is a strong market signal. Post 3 at 400 yards is clean and advantageous — Lethal Cowboy 123 (POST 3) should break cleanly and find running room without interference. If this horse is in top form, the 1-1 price may be close to fair value. However, in sprint races at this distance, upsets are not uncommon, and the exacta and trifecta prices behind a 1-1 favorite can be substantial.

Astronomical 123 (POST 6) at 4-1 for trainer Mike Casselman and Martin Arriaga draws post 6 in an eight-horse field. Casselman has shown up throughout today's card with competitive horses, and Astronomical 123 (POST 6) is clearly the barn's showcase runner of the day. At 4-1 with Arriaga in the irons — who switches from his trial race assignments to this featured mount — the horse carries legitimate winning credentials. The post 6 draw is manageable at 400 yards given the slightly longer run, and if Lethal Cowboy 123 (POST 3) is even marginally off form, Astronomical 123 (POST 6) is the most likely beneficiary.

Secondary Choices

Scoops Dynasty (POST 4) at 5-1 for trainer Diego Cervantes and Jacob Enriquez draws post 4, the center of the gate. Cervantes is not as frequently seen on the card as some of the other trainers, which can be a sign of a focused preparation for a single stakes target. At 5-1 from post 4, Scoops Dynasty (POST 4) is the most structurally well-positioned horse in the field relative to its morning line price. This is the most attractive overlay on the card for win wagering if the favorite stumbles.

Defending Champ (POST 1) at 8-1 for trainer Scott L. Willoughby and Gabriel Angel Gomez Lara draws the rail in the feature. The name itself carries implications, and if this horse has run competitively at this level before, 8-1 from the inside post is a genuine overlay. Willoughby has had horses throughout the card, and Defending Champ (POST 1) in the feature at 8-1 is a prime candidate for the top of exacta and trifecta wagers.

Longshots

Winners Share (POST 7) at 8-1 for Valentin A. Zamudio and Reuben Lozano draws post 7 in the feature. Zamudio has multiple horses running throughout the card today, suggesting the barn is in strong training form. Winners Share (POST 7) at 8-1 is worth including in all multi-horse exotic combinations.

Mask Mandate (POST 8) at 10-1 for Jose Flores and Irving Lara draws the far outside post 8. Flores has been consistently active today, and Mask Mandate (POST 8) at 10-1 from post 8 is a longer shot given the post disadvantage at any distance. However, 400 yards provides more time for recovery, and if Mask Mandate (POST 8) breaks cleanly, the price makes it a productive trifecta addition.

Invasive (POST 5) at 10-1 for Valentin A. Zamudio and E.R. Ramirez draws post 5. Zamudio runs three horses in Race 9, which is an unusually aggressive barn representation in a single stakes race. Invasive (POST 5) at 10-1 from post 5 is the most favorably posted of the Zamudio trio and should be on trifecta tickets.

Special Batch (POST 2) at 30-1 for Valentin A. Zamudio and Oscar M. Peinado is the longest shot in the race and represents the third Zamudio entry. At 30-1, Special Batch (POST 2) is a throwout for win purposes but draws post 2 adjacent to the rail. In a race where three Zamudio horses are entered, the barn will likely have a preferred runner — and Special Batch (POST 2) at 30-1 is clearly not it. Superfecta filler only.

Jockey Notes and Insights

Martin Arriaga rides across the entire card with mounts in nearly every trial race, finishing with the feature ride aboard Astronomical 123 (POST 6) in Race 9. Arriaga's inside and middle post draws throughout the card give him consistent positional advantages. The fact that he ends up on the 4-1 second choice in the feature suggests he may be the second-most-sought jockey on the card by trainer connection strength. Watch his performance in the earlier trial races as a barn form indicator — if his horses are breaking cleanly and finishing, the Astronomical 123 (POST 6) connection is worth strengthening.

Irving Lara rides for trainer Jose Flores throughout the card. Flores is clearly in strong training form given the volume of entries, and Lara is the primary conduit for that barn's success today. Cyber Eyes (POST 3) in Race 2, Rr Gotta Run (POST 7) in Race 3, and Famous Cowboy To You (POST 7) in Race 7 are among Lara's most notable mounts in the trials. His feature ride on Mask Mandate (POST 8) in Race 9 is from an outside post, but Flores's barn activity warrants attention.

Gabriel Angel Gomez Lara rides primarily for trainer Scott L. Willoughby throughout the card. Willoughby has horses in nearly every race, and Gomez Lara's performance on the trainer's stock will be a clear indicator of barn form. Faultless (POST 3) in Race 6 and Sister Rae (POST 6) in Race 8 are among the more prominent of his Willoughby assignments. His feature ride on Defending Champ (POST 1) in Race 9 at 8-1 is a key storyline of the card.

Justine Klaiber has multiple rides throughout the card, including Lonely At Night (POST 6) in Race 3, Aj Your Favorite (POST 3) in Race 4, and Indiana Fever (POST 7) in Race 5. Several of her mounts come from trainer Mike Casselman, who also has the feature runner Astronomical 123 (POST 6) in Race 9. Klaiber's performance in the trials for Casselman should be watched as a barn fitness indicator.

Eduardo Nicasio rides primarily for Paul C. Jones throughout the card, with mounts including Rational (POST 7) in Race 1, Contentious (POST 2) in Race 3, Nuclear Arsenal (POST 3) in Race 7, and Romoland (POST 4) in Race 5. Jones is one of the more productive trainers on the card, and Nicasio's ability on the Jones horses will be a clear indicator of the barn's readiness heading into the afternoon.

Henry Reynoso Lopez rides several mounts, including Jessonefamouseagle (POST 7) in Race 4 and Czech Berry Delight (POST 5) in Race 5. Lopez is capable of overcoming outside posts, which is relevant given some of his gate assignments.

Reuben Lozano rides primarily for Valentin A. Zamudio, with mounts including Golden Token (POST 2) in Race 4, Ap First To Rocket (POST 7) in Race 8, and Winners Share (POST 7) in Race 9. Zamudio's aggressive entry pattern — particularly running three horses in Race 9 — makes the choice of Lozano on Winners Share (POST 7) over the other Zamudio entries a potential signal of the barn's preferred runner in the feature.

Trainer Notes and Insights

Jose Flores runs horses in nearly every race on the card, with entries in Races 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 7, 8, and 9. This level of barn activity strongly suggests a training operation in good health and with multiple horses pointed at today's program. The sheer volume of entries means that Flores will have horses at varying levels of readiness, but the overall barn signal is positive. Cyber Eyes (POST 3) in Race 2 and Test Pilot (POST 6) in Race 5 represent the barn's best chances in the trials, and Mask Mandate (POST 8) in the feature at 10-1 is worth following.

Scott L. Willoughby runs entries in Races 1, 2, 3, 4, 6, 7, 8, and 9, making him statistically the most active trainer on today's card. This level of activity over a single nine-race card is significant. If the Willoughby barn is running sharp, Faultless (POST 3) in Race 6 and Defending Champ (POST 1) in Race 9 at 8-1 stand out as the barn's highest-profile trial and stakes entries respectively. A barn that is running this many horses is either in peak form or running across several horses at varying fitness levels — watch the early races for barn form signals before committing to the later-race Willoughby runners.

Juan G. Aleman runs horses in Races 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, and 8, a remarkable volume of entries across the first eight races. Ab Elite Blood (POST 2) in Race 5 is among the Aleman barn's more prominent entries at 4-1, representing genuine value given the favorable post position. The trainer's willingness to run across essentially every race on the card suggests horses are fresh and pointed, but handicappers should weight each runner individually.

Paul C. Jones is one of the more quietly consistent trainers on the card, with runners in Races 1, 3, 4, 5, 7, and 8. Jones's horses — Contentious (POST 2) in Race 3 and Nuclear Arsenal (POST 3) in Race 7 — are each priced as favorites or co-favorites, and the trainer's deliberate approach to entering horses in races where they appear competitive is a positive signal.

Valentin A. Zamudio runs multiple horses throughout the card, including the notable entry of three runners in Race 9 — Special Batch (POST 2), Invasive (POST 5), and Winners Share (POST 7). The choice of Lozano aboard Winners Share (POST 7) over Invasive (POST 5) with E.R. Ramirez and Special Batch (POST 2) with Peinado is a barn signal that Winners Share (POST 7) is the stable's preferred runner in the feature. Golden Token (POST 2) in Race 4 at 1-1 is another prominent Zamudio entry.

Mike Casselman has a focused entry pattern with horses including Lonely At Night (POST 6) in Race 3, Aj Your Favorite (POST 3) in Race 4, Indiana Fever (POST 7) in Race 5, and Astronomical 123 (POST 6) in Race 9. The feature horse is clearly the centerpiece of Casselman's day, and his trial horses should be watched carefully for barn form indicators.

Marc E. Jungers trains the featured horse of the day, Lethal Cowboy 123 (POST 3), in Race 9. The trainer's single entry on the card — in the feature — suggests a focused effort with a horse prepared specifically for today's stakes. This is often a positive signal for focused trainers targeting a specific race.

Best Wagering Strategies and Value Plays

The structure of today's card — eight AON trial races at $6,000 each followed by a $75,000 stakes — creates a natural wagering narrative that builds throughout the morning and peaks in Race 9. The All-Or-None format in the trial races affects daily doubles, exactas, and multi-race wagers, and bettors should be aware that in the event of dead heats, refunds apply, which can affect parlay structures.

The single most compelling value play on the card is Scoops Dynasty (POST 4) in Race 9 at 5-1 from post 4. This horse combines a center gate position with a morning line price that reflects genuine uncertainty about the favorite's ability to dominate. A small win bet on Scoops Dynasty (POST 4) alongside exacta coverage using Lethal Cowboy 123 (POST 3) over Scoops Dynasty (POST 4) and Astronomical 123 (POST 6) over Scoops Dynasty (POST 4) is a structurally sound approach.

In Race 6, the post 7 draw for Cv Fdddinasty Shan (POST 7) at 1-1 combined with Faultless (POST 3) drawing post 3 creates an interesting exacta angle. An exacta box of Cv Fdddinasty Shan (POST 7) and Faultless (POST 3) at 1-1 and 2-1 respectively will return only a modest payoff, but if you believe Faultless (POST 3) can outrun the favorite given the post advantage, a straight exacta of Faultless (POST 3) over Cv Fdddinasty Shan (POST 7) at a significantly higher price is a value wager.

In Race 5, the morning line structure where the two favorites draw outside posts 6 and 7 while Ab Elite Blood (POST 2) at 4-1 draws an inside post creates a clear overlay angle. A win bet on Ab Elite Blood (POST 2) at 4-1 and a straight exacta of Ab Elite Blood (POST 2) over Test Pilot (POST 6) represents the best post-to-price relationship on the morning line in the trial races.

For the Pick 4 covering Races 6 through 9, a sensible structure would include:

Race 6: Cv Fdddinasty Shan (POST 7) with Faultless (POST 3) as a saver. Race 7: Nuclear Arsenal (POST 3) and Still Standing (POST 5). Race 8: Ap First To Rocket (POST 7), Redd Line (POST 1), and Sister Rae (POST 6). Race 9: Lethal Cowboy 123 (POST 3) with Astronomical 123 (POST 6) and Scoops Dynasty (POST 4) as savers.

This structure — two singles bookending two-horse and three-horse legs — provides reasonable coverage of the most likely outcomes while maintaining manageable ticket cost for a four-leg Pick 4.

In Race 8, the trifecta presents a productive opportunity. Using Ap First To Rocket (POST 7) on top, with Redd Line (POST 1) and Sister Rae (POST 6) in the second hole, and spreading Byeanose (POST 3), Valiant Resolve (POST 4), and Martha Starr (POST 5) in the third position should return a solid trifecta price given the distribution of morning line odds across the field.

For the daily double linking Races 8 and 9, the combination of Ap First To Rocket (POST 7) in Race 8 with Lethal Cowboy 123 (POST 3) in Race 9 is the chalk play. A value approach would be to add Redd Line (POST 1) on top in Race 8 paired with Astronomical 123 (POST 6) or Scoops Dynasty (POST 4) in Race 9, targeting a return well above the minimum.

The single most important piece of advice for today's card is to watch the first two races carefully before committing heavily to the later trial races. The gate breaks and barn signals from Races 1 and 2 — particularly from the Flores, Willoughby, Aleman, and Jones barns — will provide live information that no morning line can fully capture. Adjust your investments in Races 3 through 8 accordingly, and enter Race 9 with clear conviction built on the observable evidence of the day.
