Monmouth Park Race Day Overview — Friday, July 31, 2026

Monmouth Park closes out the month of July with a six-race Friday afternoon card, and while the field sizes are modest by midsummer standards, there is plenty of analytical meat on the bone here. The card features a mix of turf claiming events, a maiden special weight sprint on the main track, and a midlevel claiming sprint that should generate solid handle. Post time for the opener is 2:00 PM EDT. This is the sixth consecutive year that the Monmouth meet has been covered in depth by the ITM Blog crew, and today's six-race program offers a manageable but strategically interesting card for exotic players.

Today's program arrives the day before the eyes of the racing world shift toward the Arlington Million weekend, but serious bettors should not overlook the value opportunities a short Friday card at Monmouth can generate. Tighter pools mean sharper overlays when you find them, and this card has several spots where the morning line appears exploitable.

The card is headlined by Race 5, the $31,250 claiming sprint for non-winners of three (Clm 150000n3x), which features Wildncrazynight (5) from the powerful Kelly Breen barn as the co-morning-line favorite. Race 3 is an eleven-horse turf mile field at the $50,000 claiming level that will demand careful pace analysis given the depth of the field.

Todd Pletcher's imminent approach to 6,000 career wins has dominated the national training conversation this week, and while no Pletcher runners appear on today's Monmouth card, the milestone underscores the type of elite-level trainer consciousness that separates sharp bettors from the crowd. At Monmouth today, the relevant trainer names to watch closely are Kelly Breen, Michael Maker, and Juan Carlos Avila, all of whom have multiple runners on the card.

Brad Cox's dominant Saratoga meet is also noteworthy context for the summer meet landscape, but today our focus is entirely on the Monmouth strip and grass courses.

Weather and Track Conditions — Monmouth Park, July 31, 2026

Late July weather along the Jersey Shore is consistent: expect heat, humidity, and the potential for afternoon convective activity. Monmouth sits just a few miles from the Atlantic in Oceanport, New Jersey, and sea breezes can moderate temperatures somewhat by mid-afternoon. Expect temperatures in the upper 80s to low 90s Fahrenheit at post time for the first race, with humidity levels in the 65 to 75 percent range. There is a chance of scattered thunderstorms in the late afternoon hours, which could affect the turf courses for the later races.

The main track at Monmouth is a fast, well-maintained surface that drains efficiently under normal conditions. If any precipitation arrives before or during the card, expect the track to shift toward good or good-to-firm before potentially degrading. The two turf events — Races 1 and 3 — are the ones to watch if weather deteriorates. A turf scratch scenario would push those fields to the main track and dramatically alter the betting dynamics in both races.

As of the morning of July 31, track management has not issued any surface advisories. The turf courses are expected to be rated firm to good, typical for this time of year at Monmouth.

Track and Post Position Bias — Monmouth Park

Monmouth's main track, a one-mile oval, exhibits a consistent early-speed bias in sprints. The one-turn sprint layout rewards horses that can break alertly and establish position along the inside rail. In recent summer meets, the inside posts (posts one through four) in dirt sprints have performed at an above-average rate when the main track is fast. For today's dirt races — Races 2, 4, 5, and 6 — early speed from favorable post positions should be weighted heavily.

On the Monmouth turf, particularly in longer routes, pace dynamics tend to be more fluid. The turf at Monmouth plays fairly true to form, with closers getting their fair share of wins when the pace is honest. In the one-mile turf claiming events like Race 1 and the mile-and-a-quarter turf route in Race 3, pace setters who get uncontested leads can be dangerous, but the final turn configuration at Monmouth does give late runners a run at the field if they have enough room to maneuver. Post positions in the middle of the field (posts four through seven in eight-to-eleven-horse turf fields) have historically performed best, giving horses a clean trip without the wide sweeping turns that extreme outside posts produce.

In today's eleven-horse turf field in Race 3, horses drawn in posts eight through eleven will need early positioning help from their jockeys to avoid spending unnecessary energy going wide. The rail in Race 1 (a six-and-a-half-furlong turf sprint with nine horses) is a significant factor; Bad Girl Betty Lou (1) inherits the inside turf rail, which can be an advantage or a disadvantage depending on how the race sets up.

RACE 1 — Post (2:00) — 1100f | T | C | Clm 16000n2l | BUM | Purse $15,500

This is a six-and-a-half furlong turf claiming sprint for fillies and mares that have never won two races, limited to horses that have not won a race other than maiden, claiming, or starter in 2025 or 2026. The $15,500 purse keeps this at the lower end of the Monmouth claiming ladder, and the nine-horse field features a broad range of form and class.

Race 1

Pace Analysis

This field has a muddled early pace picture. Pure Bliss (5), Lupine (7), and Trading Trouble (3) all show tactical speed on the turf and are likely to engage for the early lead. With three horses potentially wanting to press the front, the pace should be honest enough to set up a closer. Lady Khoz (8) and Gwen To Win (9) project to come from off the pace and could benefit if the speed horses burn each other up through the first half-mile. On a firm turf course, the pace scenario here slightly favors stalkers over pure front-runners.

Key Contenders

Trading Trouble (3), trained by Michael Maker and ridden by Luis Rivera Jr., is the first of the two morning-line co-favorites at 2-1. Maker is one of the top grass trainers in the country and consistently delivers well-prepared runners to the Monmouth turf. TRADING TROUBLE fits the conditions well and the Maker barn's turf stats at this class level are among the best on the grounds. Rivera has been active and effective at Monmouth this meet and pairs well with Maker horses. Expect Trading Trouble (3) to sit just off the pace and make a run on the turn.

Pure Bliss (5), also at 2-1, is trained by Jorge Duarte Jr. and will be ridden by Taylor Kingsley. Pure Bliss (5) has tactical speed and figures to be in contention throughout. Duarte runners at this class level have shown solid consistency at Monmouth, and Pure Bliss (5) brings competitive turf form that makes her a genuine threat at the price.

Lupine (7) from the Devon Dougherty barn closes out the trifecta of 2-1 morning-line choices, partnered with Charlie Marquez. Lupine (7) has speed to burn and could clear to the front if the other speed horses don't press hard out of the gate. From post seven in a nine-horse turf sprint, however, she will need to work across to find a good spot early.

Secondary Choices

Lady Khoz (8) is the 4-1 morning-line choice trained by Derek Ryan, who regularly fields competitive horses at Monmouth. Lady Khoz (8) drew into a manageable post and if the pace is honest up front, she could be finding her best stride in the final furlong. Edwin Gonzalez rides and is a capable partner in this spot.

Gwen To Win (9), the 3-1 second choice, is trained by Wayne Potts and returns to Luis Rivera Jr. It is worth noting that Rivera has a mount in Trading Trouble (3) as well, which means he cannot ride both — the connections will need to sort this out before post time. Handicappers should verify the final jockey assignments. Gwen To Win (9) is a legitimate contender at 3-1 if she gets a clean trip from the outside post.

Ausplexity (2) at 6-1 for Terri Pompay and Melissa Iorio offers some turf value. Pompay is a Monmouth fixture who knows how to place her horses. Ausplexity (2) benefits from a rail-adjacent post and could outrun her odds if the speed horses set up the race for closers.

Longshots

Elsie's Smile (6) at 6-1 for Silvino Ramirez and Christian Maragh has some turf experience and cannot be completely dismissed in a field that may not be particularly deep. Bee N Dee (4) at 8-1 for Jose Lozano Sanchez and Edwin Gonzalez faces a challenging task but has shown willingness on the turf in the past. Bad Girl Betty Lou (1) at 20-1 from the Timothy Hills barn and jockey C. Sutherland is a longshot that only appeals in bottom-of-the-field exotic structures.

Betting Strategy

With three co-favorites at 2-1, this is a race that screams for exotic play rather than straight win wagering. A reasonable exacta approach is to key Trading Trouble (3) on top of Lady Khoz (8) and Gwen To Win (9). A small trifecta box using Trading Trouble (3), Pure Bliss (5), and Lady Khoz (8) gives coverage at manageable cost. Avoid the 2-1 horses on top in win betting unless odds drift; the value in this race lives in the exacta and trifecta pools.

Selections

Win: Trading Trouble (3) Place: Lady Khoz (8) Show: Pure Bliss (5)

RACE 2 — Post (2:38) — 1320f | D | C | Clm 20000b | BUM | Purse $17,000

An eight-and-a-half furlong one-mile dirt claiming event for fillies and mares, with a $17,000 purse at the $20,000 claiming tag. This is a relatively short six-horse field that should generate a fair amount of action in the exacta and trifecta pools given how manageable the combinations are.

Race 2

Pace Analysis

Blue Moon Tide (1) and Derby Hangover (2) both figure to contest the pace in this one-mile main track route. With both early speed horses drawn inside, the opening half-mile could be contested at a quick clip. Bashful Baby (6), also at 2-1, figures to stalk from just off the pace and is the most logical beneficiary if the two speed horses duel. Critical Magic (5) and Lady Hathor (3) project as closers who need the pace to be honest.

Key Contenders

Blue Moon Tide (1), trained by Eddie Owens Jr. and ridden by Luis Rivera Jr., draws the rail and gets a co-morning-line price of 2-1. On a Monmouth main track that rewards early speed from inside posts in dirt routes, Blue Moon Tide (1) is perfectly positioned. If she can settle slightly while still tracking the pace, she is a serious threat to last in the stretch. Rivera is one of the more active riders at this meet and knows the Monmouth rail game well.

Bashful Baby (6) is co-trained by Juan Carlos Avila and draws the outside post with Charlie Marquez aboard at 2-1. Avila is having a productive Monmouth meet and Bashful Baby (6) gets the prime stalker post in a six-horse field. From post six in a one-mile dirt route at Monmouth, Marquez can drop back and find a clean trip in the two-path before firing in the stretch.

Derby Hangover (2) at 2-1 for Terri Pompay and Jose Antonio Gomez completes the three co-favorites. Derby Hangover (2) has early foot and will be forwardly placed from the break. If Blue Moon Tide (1) takes control, Derby Hangover (2) may find herself in a costly speed duel that benefits closers.

Secondary Choices

Critical Magic (5) at 6-1 for Jose M. Santaella-Calderon and Eliseo Ruiz is the most logical price horse in this field. Santaella-Calderon runs multiple horses on today's card and Critical Magic (5) is the barn's better representative in this race. If the pace heats up between the inside speed horses, Critical Magic (5) can close into the picture.

Lady Hathor (3) at 5-1 for Juan Carlos Avila and Noel Herman gives Avila another angle in this race. Lady Hathor (3) is the barn's secondary entry and Herman is a workmanlike rider at this circuit.

Longshots

J J's Honor (4) at 15-1 for Jose M. Santaella-Calderon and Jorge Luis Gonzalez is a distant longshot. Santaella-Calderon doubles up in this race, but J J's Honor (4) projects as the barn's second-best option and only appeals in deep exotic structures. At 15-1, the price could be worth a small spot in the trifecta.

Betting Strategy

In a six-horse field with three co-favorites, the exacta pool will be compressed and pricing will be modest. The most strategically sound approach is to play Bashful Baby (6) over Blue Moon Tide (1) in the exacta, as the stalker from the outside post in a contested pace scenario is the scenario that pays best. A small trifecta using Bashful Baby (6) and Blue Moon Tide (1) on top, with Critical Magic (5) and Derby Hangover (2) in the third slot, gives you coverage of the logical scenarios.

Selections

Win: Bashful Baby (6) Place: Blue Moon Tide (1) Show: Critical Magic (5)

RACE 3 — Post (3:11) — 1760f | T | C | Clm 50000b | BUN | Purse $22,000

A mile-and-a-quarter turf route for non-winners of a race other than maiden, claiming, or starter in the past year — this is the most complex race on the card. Eleven horses going long on the turf at the $50,000 claiming level with a $22,000 purse. This is the race that will define the card for exotic players, and the full-field nature and distance make the pace analysis particularly critical.

Race 3

Pace Analysis

Frankie G (7) is the lone 2-1 morning-line choice and figures to be the controlling speed in this field. In a mile-and-a-quarter turf race with eleven horses, setting a comfortable pace from the front is a significant advantage when the race is run on firm turf. Mo Action (1) and Gold Light (8) from the Avila barn, along with Orator (4), figure to be in the early mix as well. The pace should be honest given the distance and field size, which means closers with legitimate late kick could factor at big prices. Mentor (11) from the Kelly Breen barn and Street Party (10) are the most obvious deep closers and could fire with a strong pace scenario.

Key Contenders

Frankie G (7) at 2-1 for Russell Cash and Ramon Moya is the class of this field on paper. At ten furlongs on the turf with a clear pace advantage from post seven, Frankie G (7) must be respected as the favorite. Moya is an experienced turf handler and will know how to conserve ground on the first turn. The question for Frankie G (7) is whether the mile-and-a-quarter distance stretches his stamina, and whether the eleven-horse field produces enough pressure to catch him in the final furlong.

Mo Action (1) at 3-1 for Juan Carlos Avila and Edwin Gonzalez holds the rail in an eleven-horse turf field. At a mile-and-a-quarter, the inside post at Monmouth can be an advantage if the horse gets into stride early and avoids trouble. Avila has been effective on the Monmouth turf this summer and Gold Light (8), the barn's other entry, gives them multiple angles in this race.

Orator (4) at 3-1 for Kathy Neilson and Charlie Marquez is a legitimate contender with a clean middle draw. At 3-1, Orator (4) offers reasonable value in a race where the favorite is only 2-1. Neilson places her horses thoughtfully and Orator (4) should be in good shape form-wise to fire at this distance.

Secondary Choices

Roscommon (2) at 4-1 for Derek Ryan and Christian Maragh is well-positioned near the rail and gives Ryan another live contender at the meet. Roscommon (2) has turf credentials and the 4-1 price represents fair market value in this competitive field.

Gold Light (8) at 3-1 is Avila's second entry and gives the barn a second wheel in the exacta. While Gold Light (8) faces the wide post disadvantage, Avila's double-entry strategy suggests the barn has confidence in both horses. Edwin Gonzalez can be counted on to get Gold Light (8) into a good stalking position.

Mentor (11) at 4-1 for Kelly Breen and Luis Rivera Jr. is the one closer in this field that has the pedigree and trainer firepower to produce a big late run. Breen is one of the top operations at Monmouth and Mentor (11) from the extreme outside draws the toughest post in an eleven-horse turf route, but if the pace truly collapses in the final furlong, Rivera can unleash Mentor (11) down the lane for a powerful closing bid. At 4-1, Mentor (11) is one of the better value plays on the card.

Kauai Breeze (5) at 5-1 for Lindsay Schultz and Jorge Vargas Jr. is a horse to respect at a price. Schultz handles turf horses competently and Kauai Breeze (5) from post five gets a clean outside draw without the extreme width penalty.

Chowser (9) at 4-1 for Jorge Duarte Jr. and Taylor Kingsley is another legitimate late-running threat. In a twelve-and-a-half furlong race on firm turf, Chowser (9) could be a significant player.

Street Party (10) at 4-1 for Michael Pino and Ruben Silvera has the closing profile to be dangerous. Pino is a capable conditioner and Street Party (10) from post ten would need a wide, sweeping trip but could close powerfully in the final furlong.

Longshots

Ad Majora (3) at 15-1 for Jose M. Santaella-Calderon and Jorge Luis Gonzalez is a clear longshot in this field but gives the Santaella-Calderon barn a turf entry. At 15-1, worth a small trifecta inclusion if you believe in pace meltdown scenarios. Splitting Stones (6) at 20-1 for JoAnn Bertone and Eliseo Ruiz is the longest shot in the race and only plays in the deepest exotic configurations.

Betting Strategy

This is the prime race on the card for exotic wagering. With eleven horses at a route distance on the turf, trifecta and superfecta payouts can be significant. Key Mentor (11) and Frankie G (7) in the exacta both ways, then build out trifectas using Orator (4), Mo Action (1), and Kauai Breeze (5) as the third wheel. For superfecta players, this is the race to go wide in the fourth position. A Pick 3 starting here and running through Races 4 and 5 is also worth constructing.

Selections

Win: Mentor (11) Place: Frankie G (7) Show: Orator (4)

RACE 4 — Post (3:44) — 1100f | D | S | Md Sp Wt | AON | Purse $51,250

The maiden special weight sprint for all-ages is the most prestigious race on today's card from a class standpoint. Ten horses going six and a half furlongs on the dirt at Monmouth with a $51,250 purse. This is the race where trainer credentials and workout patterns matter most, as maiden special weight horses are often lightly raced and can improve dramatically from race to race.

Race 4

Pace Analysis

T L From E K (1) and Time To Groove (2) are the co-morning-line favorites at 2-1 each, and both figure to be involved in the early pace. Sun Tan Man (9) at 6-1 has early speed as well. With three speed horses likely to contest the front, the pace in this maiden sprint could be hot, which would set up a late-running stalker or closer to catch the leaders in the final furlong. The inside posts in this Monmouth dirt sprint are advantageous, and both T L From E K (1) and Time To Groove (2) are perfectly drawn.

Key Contenders

T L From E K (1) at 2-1 for Kelly Breen and Luis Rivera Jr. is the morning-line co-favorite from the best post in the race. Breen is one of the leading trainers at this meet and wins at a high clip with maiden special weight horses when he spots them right. T L From E K (1) gets the rail draw and Rivera, who has been sharp this meet, is an ideal partner. This is the horse the sharp money will likely support.

Time To Groove (2) at 2-1 for Cathal Lynch and Edwin Gonzalez is the other co-favorite. Lynch is a respected conditioner who sends out fit horses, and post two is nearly as ideal as post one in a Monmouth dirt sprint. Gonzalez is among the more active riders at this circuit and has a strong relationship with Lynch horses. Time To Groove (2) must be considered as dangerous as T L From E K (1) on talent grounds.

Secondary Choices

Tactfully Wild (8) at 6-1 for Ben Perkins Jr. and C. Sutherland is the most interesting price horse in this race. Perkins is a solid conditioner at this circuit and horses from this barn at maiden special weight level have shown the ability to run big at prices. Tactfully Wild (8) will need to find early cover from post eight and get into a good stalking position to close in the stretch.

Sun Tan Man (9) at 6-1 for Andrew Simoff and Eliseo Ruiz figures to be forwardly placed and could benefit from a track that rewards early speed. Simoff places his horses conservatively and Sun Tan Man (9) at 6-1 is a fair price on a horse that should fire on the early part of the race.

It's Prime Time (10) at 8-1 for Anthony Margotta Jr. and Ramon Moya is worth considering. Margotta has multiple horses on today's card and demonstrates confidence in his stable's overall form. From post ten in a Monmouth sprint, It's Prime Time (10) faces the widest draw, but Moya is experienced enough to find a clean path.

Longshots

Andonemorething (7) at 12-1 for Kim Einhorn and J.C. Ferrer is an interesting stable entry from a trainer who has produced occasional maiden surprise winners at this circuit. Control The Time (3) at 12-1 for Pompeyo Gomez and Jorge Luis Gonzalez needs early position to have any chance. Thatain'tnowaytogo (5) at 12-1 for Rory Huston and Jefferson Skerrett is a horse from a barn that appears multiple times on today's card; Huston could have one of his horses fire at a price. Soy Dominicano (6) at 15-1 for Riquelvis Grullon and P.L. Cotto Jr. is a deep longshot with limited appeal outside of superfecta structures. Itsy Bitsy Boss (4) at 20-1 for Sergio Rabadan and Jose Antonio Gomez rounds out the field as a maximum longshot.

Betting Strategy

With two co-favorites at 2-1, the win pool will be chalky. The strategy here is to key T L From E K (1) and Time To Groove (2) at the top of exactas and trifectas, with Tactfully Wild (8), Sun Tan Man (9), and It's Prime Time (10) filling the place and show spots. A trifecta wheel using T L From E K (1) and Time To Groove (2) on top, with Tactfully Wild (8), Sun Tan Man (9), and It's Prime Time (10) underneath, covers the most logical race scenarios.

Selections

Win: T L From E K (1) Place: Time To Groove (2) Show: Tactfully Wild (8)

RACE 5 — Post (4:17) — 1320f | D | C | Clm 150000n3x | BUN | Purse $31,250

This is a one-mile dirt claiming sprint for non-winners of three races at the $150,000 claiming level — a significant step up in class from the earlier races on the card. The $31,250 purse is the largest of the day outside of the maiden special weight, and this seven-horse field is the most compact and potentially competitive of the afternoon.

Race 5

Pace Analysis

Wildncrazynight (5) at 2-1 from the Breen barn and Happy Offering (7) at 2-1 are the co-favorites, and both figure to have pace influence in a one-mile dirt route. Molly's A Bullet (1) at 15-1 shows early speed and will try to set the tempo. Bon Courage (4) at 8-1 could be involved early as well. The pace in this seven-horse field at a mile should be competitive enough to give the closers a reasonable shot, particularly Cassation (3) and Doin This (6) from off the pace.

Key Contenders

Wildncrazynight (5) at 2-1 for Kelly Breen and Luis Rivera Jr. is the top choice based on trainer and jockey credentials. Breen is dominant at this meet and pairing with Rivera gives Wildncrazynight (5) the best overall connections of any horse in the field. At 2-1, the price is fair but not generous, and Wildncrazynight (5) needs to be respected as the horse to beat.

Happy Offering (7) at 2-1 for Charles Spina and Charlie Marquez is the other co-favorite. Spina has a competitive horse here and Happy Offering (7) from post seven in a one-mile dirt route can be rated off the pace before making a late bid. Marquez rides at a solid level at this circuit and the connections make Happy Offering (7) a genuine co-equal threat to Wildncrazynight (5).

Secondary Choices

Doin This (6) at 5-1 for Rory Huston and Jorge Vargas Jr. is the most interesting price horse in this race. In a pace scenario that could get competitive at the front, Doin This (6) as a stalker-closer from the six-post gives Huston his best runner on the card and Vargas can sit comfortably in traffic before angling for the stretch run.

Cassation (3) at 6-1 for Anthony Margotta Jr. and Christian Maragh is a horse worth including in exotics. Margotta is active on today's card and Cassation (3) figures to come from off the pace. At 6-1, the price gives the horse enough value to be included in trifecta and exacta structures.

Really Quick (2) at 8-1 for Joan Milne and J.C. Ferrer is a legitimate longshot-to-second-choice type. Milne also saddles Bon Courage (4) with C. Sutherland at 8-1, giving the barn two angles in this race. Really Quick (2) at 8-1 is the Milne barn's more intriguing play from a price perspective.

Longshots

Bon Courage (4) at 8-1 for Joan Milne and C. Sutherland is worth noting as a secondary Milne entry. Molly's A Bullet (1) at 15-1 for Anthony Margotta Jr. and Ramon Moya is a pace setter who projects to set fractions but is unlikely to last in a competitive mile at this class level.

Betting Strategy

Key Wildncrazynight (5) and Happy Offering (7) on top in exactas, with Doin This (6) and Cassation (3) as the value underneath. A part-wheel exacta with Wildncrazynight (5) and Happy Offering (7) on top of all horses pays modest prices given the co-favorite setup, but the reverse exacta — Happy Offering (7) over Wildncrazynight (5) — could pay a decent overlay. Include Doin This (6) in all trifecta structures.

Selections

Win: Wildncrazynight (5) Place: Happy Offering (7) Show: Doin This (6)

RACE 6 — Post (4:47) — 1320f | D | M | Md 10000 | BUM | Purse $15,000

The finale is a one-mile dirt maiden claimer for fillies and mares at the $10,000 level with a $15,000 purse. These are the most modestly bred and lightly accomplished runners on the card, and maiden claiming events at this level can be notoriously unpredictable. Ten horses give exotic bettors a chance at strong payouts in the trifecta and superfecta.

Race 6

Pace Analysis

Mind Boggling (2) at 3-1 is likely to be forwardly placed along with La Pluma (3) and possibly By My Dreams (7). In a ten-horse one-mile maiden claimer, the pace is often honest to fast early as multiple horses look to establish position. This sets up nicely for stalker-closers like Bet On Beth (4) and Infamy (10). The key is whether any horse has a decisive class edge at a level where form can be erratic.

Key Contenders

Mind Boggling (2) at 3-1 for Silvino Ramirez and Eliseo Ruiz is the morning-line favorite and the horse that most handicappers have identified as the class of this maiden claiming field. Ramirez has competitive form this meet and Mind Boggling (2) from post two is drawn well for a Monmouth one-mile maiden route. Ruiz handles the assignment and Mind Boggling (2) should be on or near the pace throughout.

La Pluma (3) at 4-1 for Mike Dini and Edwin Gonzalez is the co-second choice and gets the Mike Dini barn's best rider. Dini also saddles Bet On Beth (4) with Charlie Marquez. The double entry from Dini is significant — when a trainer enters two horses in a maiden claimer at this level, it often means the barn is confident in the overall group. La Pluma (3) from post three with Gonzalez is the preferred Dini horse given the rider upgrade.

Infamy (10) at 4-1 for Jorge Delgado and Carlos Eduardo Rojas is the closing threat from the outside post. Delgado is a veteran conditioner at this circuit and Infamy (10) at 4-1 from post ten represents the best closing value on the board. If the pace is honest, Infamy (10) can arrive late and collect.

Secondary Choices

By My Dreams (7) at 5-1 for Juan Carlos Avila and J.C. Ferrer is a horse that carries the Avila barn's turf and dirt competence into the finale. At 5-1, By My Dreams (7) gives the barn another live runner to end the card and Ferrer is an accomplished rider who can maneuver in traffic.

Bet On Beth (4) at 6-1 for Mike Dini and Charlie Marquez is the second Dini entry and gives the barn coverage in both the race and exotic pools. Marquez is one of the more reliable jockeys at this circuit and Bet On Beth (4) at 6-1 represents fair value in exacta structures.

Prime City (6) at 8-1 for Anthony Margotta Jr. and Ramon Moya is a horse that has been active on the card for the Margotta barn. Prime City (6) in the finale is the barn's final entry of the day, and at 8-1 has the potential to surprise.

Longshots

Miskita (9) at 8-1 for Irving Rodriguez and Noel Herman is a distant price play. Dylan Rose (5) at 15-1 for Rory Huston and Christian Maragh is from a barn that has multiple entries today and could surprise at a big price. Thegangsallhere (8) at 12-1 for Rory Huston and C. Sutherland is the barn's second entry in this race — Huston doubles up in the finale as well. Refined Elaine (1) at 30-1 for Howard Brown Jr. and Jefferson Skerrett is a maximum longshot with virtually no angle to recommend.

Betting Strategy

Target the trifecta and superfecta in the finale. A straightforward trifecta key of Mind Boggling (2) and Infamy (10) on top of La Pluma (3), By My Dreams (7), and Bet On Beth (4) captures the most likely finishing order permutations. At a $10,000 claiming level, overlays exist throughout the exotic pools. The superfecta at this level and price range can return $500 or more on a $1 ticket if even one longshot cracks the top four.

Selections

Win: Mind Boggling (2) Place: Infamy (10) Show: La Pluma (3)

Jockey Notes and Insights

Luis Rivera Jr. is the most active and effective rider on today's card, booked on multiple horses including Trading Trouble (3) in Race 1, Blue Moon Tide (1) in Race 2, Mentor (11) in Race 3, T L From E K (1) in Race 4, Wildncrazynight (5) in Race 5, and Gwen To Win (9) in Race 1. Verify his final mount list at post time as conflicts may require a change. Rivera has been riding with consistent energy at Monmouth this summer and his presence on Kelly Breen horses is particularly significant.

Edwin Gonzalez is another rider to note with multiple mounts today, including Bee N Dee (4) and Lady Khoz (8) in Race 1 — another conflict to watch — Mo Action (1) and Gold Light (8) in Race 3 (the Avila double entry), Time To Groove (2) in Race 4, and La Pluma (3) in Race 6. Gonzalez rides confidently at this circuit and is particularly dangerous when paired with Avila horses.

Charlie Marquez has a strong book as well, including Lupine (7) in Race 1, Bashful Baby (6) in Race 2, Orator (4) in Race 3, Bet On Beth (4) in Race 6, and Happy Offering (7) in Race 5. Marquez has been sharp at Monmouth and his presence on Happy Offering (7) in Race 5 is notable.

Christian Maragh holds mounts on Elsie's Smile (6) in Race 1, Roscommon (2) in Race 2, Cassation (3) in Race 5, and Dylan Rose (5) in Race 6. Maragh is a capable professional who can be trusted on turf horses.

Ramon Moya has an interesting book today riding Frankie G (7) in Race 3, It's Prime Time (10) in Race 4, Molly's A Bullet (1) in Race 5, and Prime City (6) in Race 6. His mount on Frankie G (7) is the most significant of the day.

J.C. Ferrer handles Andonemorething (7) in Race 4, Really Quick (2) in Race 5, and By My Dreams (7) in Race 6 for the Avila barn. Ferrer is a veteran of the Mid-Atlantic circuit and gives each barn a professional ride.

Trainer Notes and Insights

Kelly Breen enters today with the most powerful operations on the card. His runners include T L From E K (1) in Race 4 and Wildncrazynight (5) in Race 5 as morning-line favorites, plus Mentor (11) in Race 3 at 4-1. Breen's win percentage at Monmouth this meet has been among the highest on the grounds, and pairing consistently with Luis Rivera Jr. has given the barn a formidable jockey-trainer combination. When Breen sends out a morning-line favorite, the sharp money almost always follows.

Juan Carlos Avila is the trainer with the most horses on today's card — Mo Action (1) and Gold Light (8) in Race 3, Bashful Baby (6) in Race 2, Lady Hathor (3) in Race 2, and By My Dreams (7) in Race 6. The double entries in Race 2 and Race 3 give Avila multiple chances and represent genuine confidence in his stable's form. Avila has been one of the more productive trainers at Monmouth this summer and his turf form is particularly strong.

Michael Maker's lone entry, Trading Trouble (3) in Race 1, deserves maximum respect. Maker is one of the elite turf trainers in North America and when he ships a horse to Monmouth at the claiming level, the horse is typically fit and ready to fire.

Anthony Margotta Jr. is active with multiple entries today, including Molly's A Bullet (1) and Cassation (3) in Race 5, It's Prime Time (10) in Race 4, and Prime City (6) in Race 6. The barn's most interesting entry is Cassation (3) in Race 5 at 6-1.

Rory Huston saddles Thatain'tnowaytogo (5) in Race 4, Doin This (6) in Race 5, Dylan Rose (5) and Thegangsallhere (8) in Race 6. Huston's best chance of the day is Doin This (6) in Race 5.

Jose M. Santaella-Calderon enters J J's Honor (4) and Critical Magic (5) in Race 2 and Ad Majora (3) in Race 3 — three total entries today. The barn has limited upside horses on this card but Critical Magic (5) at 6-1 in Race 2 is the best representative.

Jorge Duarte Jr. handles Pure Bliss (5) in Race 1 and Chowser (9) in Race 3. The barn's turf form has been competitive at Monmouth and both horses deserve inclusion in exotic structures.

Best Wagering Strategies and Value Plays

The card today breaks naturally into two types of betting opportunities: races where you play for profit against chalk, and races where you structure exotics around consensus favorites.

The best single-race value play on the card is Mentor (11) in Race 3 at 4-1. This horse carries the Kelly Breen training stamp, pairs with Rivera in a race where the pace should set up for closers, and draws an outside post in an eleven-horse turf route where the pace is expected to be genuine. The 4-1 morning-line price against a 2-1 favorite is the type of mild overlay that experienced Monmouth players exploit regularly. Mentor (11) to win is the card's best stand-alone value.

The best exacta on the card is Race 2: Bashful Baby (6) over Blue Moon Tide (1). In a six-horse field with three co-favorites all at 2-1, the exacta using two of the three at 2-1 will pay a modest but positive expected value price. Bashful Baby (6) as the pace-stalking outside horse in a contested pace scenario is the most logical winner, and Blue Moon Tide (1) from the inside rail is the most logical second horse.

The Pick 3 most worth constructing runs through Races 3, 4, and 5. In Race 3, use Mentor (11), Frankie G (7), and Orator (4). In Race 4, use T L From E K (1) and Time To Groove (2). In Race 5, use Wildncrazynight (5) and Happy Offering (7). This six-combination Pick 3 covers the most logical outcomes in the three most structurally sound races on the card and gives you multiple live tickets throughout the sequence.

For the final race trifecta in Race 6, the recommended structure is Mind Boggling (2) and Infamy (10) on top, singled or floated with La Pluma (3), By My Dreams (7), Bet On Beth (4), and Prime City (6) in the bottom two spots. At the $10,000 maiden claiming level, the trifecta payouts can be surprisingly large when even one horse at 6-1 or better cracks the top three.

The best value single on the board from a risk-reward standpoint is Doin This (6) in Race 5 at 5-1. With the Breen barn and Margotta barn monopolizing attention at 2-1 and 6-1 respectively, Doin This (6) at 5-1 for the Huston barn with Vargas Jr. in the irons is a horse that could be overlooked by the public. A small win bet combined with exacta placement behind the co-favorites gives Doin This (6) the best risk-reward profile of any horse listed at 5-1 or above on today's card.

The best longshot play of the day for exotic players is Miskita (9) in Race 6 at 8-1. In a maiden claiming finale at the $10,000 level, 8-1 shots find their way into the exotics regularly, and Irving Rodriguez has shown the ability to place horses competitively in these bottom-of-the-ladder sprints. A small inclusion of Miskita (9) in the trifecta's third slot adds significant upside to the finale at minimal cost.
