Race Day Overview — Mountaineer Park, August 24, 2026

Mountaineer Park's Monday night card offers ten races across dirt and turf surfaces, spanning the full spectrum of conditions from maiden claimers to optional claiming allowances. The card is anchored by a pair of upper-level optional claimers in Races 6 and 7, each carded at 1210 furlongs on the main track with $22,000 purses. The evening's deepest field numerically comes in Race 3, a turf claimer going 1540 furlongs with fourteen runners, which will demand careful exacta and trifecta construction. Race 2 presents an interesting eleven-horse turf allowance field, while the maiden events in Races 1 and 5 offer the kind of value overlays that can anchor a Pick 4 or Pick 5 sequence.

The international news following Item's victory in the G1 Juddmonte International at York on August 19th has injected energy into global racing conversation, and while those horses are far removed from West Virginia's night card, the collective attention on the sport during the Ebor Festival week often sharpens the professional bettor's focus on domestic value plays at secondary venues like Mountaineer.

Notable stable activity to watch: trainer Juan Pablo Silva has horses entered in Races 1, 4, and 6, suggesting a productive stable currently, while Jay P. Bernardini sends out runners in Races 3, 4, 7, and 8, indicating an active barn with multiple live arrows on the card.

Weather and Track Conditions

Late August at Mountaineer Park in Chester, West Virginia typically brings humid, warm conditions with afternoon temperatures in the upper 80s carrying into the evening post time. The forecast for August 24, 2026 calls for partly cloudy skies with temperatures in the mid-80s at first post and gradually cooling through the card. Humidity levels will be elevated, running near 70 percent, which is standard for this time of year along the Ohio River corridor.

No significant rainfall is expected in the 24 hours preceding the card, which should keep the main track at fast or close to fast. The turf course at Mountaineer is typically listed as firm or good during dry summer stretches, and current conditions suggest a firm to good reading heading into tonight's races. Any morning shower activity in the area could soften the turf slightly, but nothing threatening appears on the short-range radar.

A wet turf at Mountaineer can dramatically change the complexion of a field when horses with known turf-to-dirt preferences are considered.

Track Bias and Post Position Analysis

Mountaineer Park's main track is a one-mile oval with a relatively short stretch run. On the dirt surface, particularly in sprint distances, inside posts carry a slight advantage in races carding at 1320 furlongs and 1210 furlongs. Horses that can secure a ground-saving trip from posts 1 through 4 have historically shown a measurable advantage in these sprint configurations. In the mile and longer dirt routes, the bias flattens considerably as pace dynamics take over.

On the turf course, which runs along the outside rail, inside posts in sprints can be a disadvantage if the turf rail is up and horses must angle out early. For the 1540-furlong turf events carded tonight, mid-post positions (4 through 7) have generally shown strong results at Mountaineer as those horses can settle just off the leaders without excessive early position changes.

The 1760-furlong turf route in Race 2 is a longer distance where pace and class override post position bias. However, outside posts beyond 8 can prove challenging in large fields if the pace collapses and horses lose too much ground early.

Speed bias on the main track has been moderate in recent summer meetings. Pace figures suggest that stalkers and closers have been competitive, though front-runners with solid early fractions who can rate have held up in the stretch. Tonight's sprint fields should reward horses that can take the early lead or sit within a length or two of an honest pace.

RACE 1 — Post (7:00)/6:00/5:00/4:00 — 1320f | D | M | Md 4000 | BUN | Purse $8,500

Seven runners go to the gate in this maiden claiming event at the $4,000 level, the lowest rung on the ladder at Mountaineer. At a mile on the dirt, pace will be honest if any of the speed horses push early, though in a cheap maiden event the fractions can be pedestrian and the race can come down to who's most fit and most willing at the bottom of the stretch.

Pace Analysis

This field lacks an obvious dominant front-runner that stands out above all others. Crime Lord (3) and Finn D'oro (6) figure to be involved on the front end based on trainer profiles and running styles typical of their respective barns. If both are aggressive early, the fractions could prove taxing for both, opening the door for a presser or stalker to pounce. Broham (2) could sit just off the early pace and prove dangerous if the leaders tire in the stretch. A moderate to honest early pace is the most likely scenario.

Key Contenders

Crime Lord (3), trained by Juan Pablo Silva and ridden by N. Arroyo Jr., comes in as a co-morning-line favorite at 2-1. Silva is an active trainer at Mountaineer who keeps horses competitive at the lower claiming levels, and Arroyo Jr. is among the track's top jockeys by mounts and wins. In a $4,000 maiden field, the combination of a solid trainer-jockey pairing at a competitive price gives Crime Lord a decisive edge. Look for Arroyo to have this horse stalking the pace from a favorable post 3, which allows a ground-saving trip. At 2-1, the price is minimal, but in bottom-level maiden races, short-priced well-connected horses hit their share.

Finn D'oro (6), the other 2-1 morning line co-favorite trained by Robert S. Scallan and ridden by Maikol Vilchez, merits serious respect. Post 6 in a seven-horse field at a mile is workable, and Vilchez is a capable hand who rides a solid book of mounts at Mountaineer. Scallan knows his way around the conditions at this track, and if Finn D'Oro has any early foot, it could be on or near the lead going into the first turn. The concern is dueling with Crime Lord if both break alertly.

Secondary Choices

Broham (2) at 5-1 trained by Burton K. Sipp is the third horse in this race deserving serious attention. At 5-1, Broham represents genuine value if this horse has the class edge or fitness advantage the morning line implies. The inside post 2 is excellent for a horse that might want to rate just off the pace and pounce in the stretch. Sipp is a trainer who knows how to spot horses at the right level, and if Broham has recent sharp works, this could be the race's best value play.

Robert Lee (7) at 8-1 closes the field from the widest post. Trainer Christopher L. Gray and jockey Jorge A. Monserrate Jr. combine for the outside slot, which is less than ideal at a mile in a seven-horse field, but a closer could run through tired horses late if the pace scenario unfolds favorably.

Longshots

Treblewiththecurve (1), trained by Kelly A. Fernandez with Brandon Tapara aboard at 10-1, occupies the rail and could benefit from a ground-saving trip. The Fernandez barn also sends out Riddle Me That (5) at 12-1 with R. Diaz up, suggesting the stable is trying to find the right spot for multiple horses. Riddle Me That (5) is the longer shot and likely needs more than these fields have offered. Delightful Appeal (4), trained by Danny Bird with Jose A. Leon in the irons at 15-1, is a significant stretch of the imagination at this price level in a seven-horse field unless there is a hidden angle in the form.

Betting Strategy

The 2-1 price on Crime Lord (3) is short for a maiden claimer with inherent unpredictability. The better play is using Broham (2) underneath in exactas, keying Crime Lord (3) on top with Broham (2) and Finn D'oro (6) in the exacta. A small win play on Broham (2) at 5-1 makes sense for those looking for value.

Selections

Win: Crime Lord (3) Place: Broham (2) Show: Finn D'oro (6)

RACE 2 — Post (7:25)/6:25/5:25/4:25 — 1760f | T | A | Alw 20000n2l | BUM | Purse $20,000

Eleven fillies and mares go two-turns on the turf in this allowance event for non-winners of two lifetime. This is a competitive, full field with several legitimate contenders. The 1760-furlong distance on the turf favors tactical speed and horses with proven turf form.

Pace Analysis

Shotgun Margaret (10) at 3-1 and Something Sweet (9) at 4-1 figure to be the class of the field on morning line alone, and the pace will likely set up as a stalker's race. With eleven runners, the early pace will be crowded through the first turn and the turf specialist who can save ground and accelerate in the stretch will be at an advantage. Zena Cat (4) at 5-1 and Pivot To The Power (11) at 5-1, both trainers suggesting familiarity with turf conditions, could press the pace or sit midfield. Expect a moderate early tempo that sets up a stretch run by horses with superior closing ability.

Key Contenders

Shotgun Margaret (10) is the morning line favorite at 3-1, trained by John R. Shuler and ridden by Kevin Gonzalez, who is one of Mountaineer's more active riders. In an 11-horse turf allowance, the outside post 10 is manageable at the 1760-furlong distance as the field fans out before the first turn. Shuler sending this horse at 3-1 in this condition indicates trainer confidence. Gonzalez riding the morning line favorite gives this entry a polished combination. If Shotgun Margaret has turf credentials that back up the market position, this is the horse to beat.

Something Sweet (9) at 4-1, trained by Jennifer A. Johnson with Arroyo Jr. aboard, is a significant threat. Johnson is a capable Mountaineer trainer, and pairing with Arroyo Jr., arguably the busiest top jockey on the card tonight, gives this filly a serious chance. Adjacent post positions for Something Sweet and Shotgun Margaret could create traffic scenarios, but Arroyo should navigate with his typical professionalism. At 4-1 with a top jockey, this is the value play of the race.

Secondary Choices

Pivot To The Power (11) at 5-1 represents an interesting secondary angle. Eric R. Reed is the trainer, and Reed is well-known nationally as a conditioner of quality turf runners. The fact that he sends out two horses in this race, Dreamwifedreamlife (3) at 8-1 and Pivot To The Power (11) at 5-1, suggests both have honest chances. Pivot to the Power at 5-1 from the outside post 11 with jockey Charle Oliveros is worth a spot in multi-race wagers.

Zena Cat (4) at 5-1, trained by C. Marshall Godsey with Bailey Weatherly in the irons, gets a favorable middle post and is the type of horse that could be underestimated. Godsey is a steady Mountaineer conditioner, and the 5-1 price on a horse with a reasonable draw in a turf route warrants attention.

Dreamwifedreamlife (3) at 8-1, the second Reed trainee in this race, is interesting as a potential overlay if the stable is splitting attention between two horses but has stronger faith in Dreamwifedreamlife's current form. Oliveros had the call on both originally but can only ride one at a time.

Longshots

Lumenique (7) at 6-1, trained by Boris Kocijan with Luis Tapara up, is worth watching from an inside-to-mid post. The 6-1 morning line price may represent value if this horse has recent turf form. Mesa's Spunky Girl (6) at 10-1, trained by Shane Meyers with Alexander Chavez riding, is a longer consideration if the field collapses. Hardly Ready (8) at 10-1 under trainer J. Michael Rogers with Erik Barbaran up is another that could surface in a wide-open race. My Happy Holiday (1) at 20-1 trained by Melinda Sanders and Morgan's Bluff (2) at 20-1 trained by Alejandro Gomez are likely overmatched in this company unless dramatic form reversals occur. Party Queen (5) at 15-1 trained by Kent Knudsen with D.L. Parker aboard rounds out the field as a longer shot unlikely to trouble the top choices.

Betting Strategy

Key Something Sweet (9) and Shotgun Margaret (10) in exactas going both ways. Include Pivot To The Power (11) and Zena Cat (4) in trifecta coverage. A $1 trifecta box using the top four contenders offers reasonable cost for a race with genuine uncertainty. Something Sweet (9) offers the most value among the top two at 4-1.

Selections

Win: Something Sweet (9) Place: Shotgun Margaret (10) Show: Pivot To The Power (11)

RACE 3 — Post (7:50)/6:50/5:50/4:50 — 1540f | T | C | Clm 10000n3x | BUM | Purse $13,000

Fourteen runners in a turf claimer at 1540 furlongs for non-winners of three races creates one of the night's most complex handicapping challenges. Large turf fields require precise exacta and trifecta construction, and the morning line suggests a competitive race with several horses at reasonable prices.

Pace Analysis

Sip'n' Speed (8) at 2-1 is the lone standout morning line choice, but fourteen horses on the turf going 1540 furlongs means early chaos is possible. Quince (1) and Mo Touring (3) figure to have some early interest. If the speed elements duel, closers will be rewarded. Rock Tune (11) at 5-1 trained by Rogers could come from off the pace. The overall tempo is difficult to project with this many horses, but a contested early pace seems likely given the field size and class of the horses eligible for this claiming level.

Key Contenders

Sip'n' Speed (8) at 2-1 is the morning line favorite, trained by Angelo Pizzurro with Luis Alberto Batista aboard. The 2-1 price in a 14-horse turf field is short, and while Pizzurro's horse may be the most accomplished in the field, the crowded conditions and traffic risks inherent in a 14-runner turf race make the favorite vulnerable. Still, when a horse commands this kind of market respect at a 10,000 claiming level, it typically has demonstrated class superiority. Batista will need a good trip, and post 8 is acceptable in a 14-horse field on the turf.

Rock Tune (11) at 5-1, trained by J. Michael Rogers with Erik Barbaran up, offers better value than the favorite. Rogers has multiple horses running well on this card, and a 5-1 price in a large turf field with a competent jockey represents a legitimate play. From post 11, Barbaran may need to work to get position but should be able to settle and make a run in the stretch.

Secondary Choices

Quince (1) at 3-1, trained by Juan Carlos Vazquez with Luis Negron up, is well-priced and has the benefit of the rail in a 14-horse turf field. In West Virginia turf racing at sprint-to-middle distances, the rail can be a genuine advantage if the turf course is firm and the grass along the inside is not worn. Negron should be able to take back slightly and find the rail early, saving ground throughout. At 3-1 this is a legitimate place contender and a value alternative to the favorite.

Mo Touring (3) at 4-1, trained by Scott Murphy with Ricardo Barrios in the irons, brings a mid-field post and the price is fair for a horse in this type of race. Murphy has an active stable and the 4-1 price suggests genuine trainer optimism.

Siljim (5) at 6-1 with Bailey Weatherly for trainer Donald T. Blankenship, alongside stablemate Una Roca (14) at 6-1 with Kevin Gonzalez, represents the Blankenship barn's double entry. When a trainer sends two horses at the same price in the same race, both deserve consideration as the barn obviously believes both are live. Una Roca (14) from the outside post 14 is disadvantaged, but Gonzalez is talented enough to work out a trip.

Longshots

Good Enough For Me (2) at 10-1, where trainer Alejandro Gomez also takes the riding duties, is a trainer-rider combination that can be profitable when the trainer knows something about the horse's readiness. Pour Me A Drink (7) at 8-1, trained by Jose E. Lopez with Vilchez up, is a mid-range longshot worth including in trifecta bottom slots. Strawberry Sky (4) at 15-1 for trainer Moises Valdez with R. Diaz is a longer shot, as is stablemate Joys Of Summer (12) at 10-1 with F. Garcia. Pearl Magic (6) at 20-1 for Cameron Trierweiler is a fringe runner, as are Smiles For David (9) at 20-1, trained by Julia Gilbert with Kyle Gilbert, and Unstable Mabel (10) at 10-1 for Jay P. Bernardini. Sister Sola (13) at 10-1 for trainer Tina Ramgeet with A.R. Ramgeet, another family trainer-jockey combination, deserves a brief mention.

Betting Strategy

In a 14-horse turf field, exacta and trifecta wheels are the primary strategy. Key Quince (1) and Sip'n' Speed (8) in an exacta wheel with Rock Tune (11), Mo Touring (3), and Siljim (5). A $0.50 trifecta part-wheel using the top four is recommended. The 2-1 on Sip'n' Speed (8) is too short to bet to win in this field size.

Selections

Win: Quince (1) Place: Sip'n' Speed (8) Show: Rock Tune (11)

RACE 4 — Post (8:15)/7:15/6:15/5:15 — 1540f | T | CO | OClm 10000 | BUN | Purse $15,500

Fourteen runners again, this time in an optional claimer at the $10,000 level on the turf. The morning line features Force Of Justice (13) as the heavy favorite at 1-1, with Ramsey (14) at 2-1 and Undalay (3) and Royal Salute (11) both at 3-1. This is a race with a clear market hierarchy, though 14 runners on the turf always create exposure.

Pace Analysis

With 14 horses and multiple candidates for the early lead, the pace could be contested and the fractions moderate for a turf sprint of this type. Stomping Moon (1) may be aggressive from the rail, and horses like El Ondeado (5) and Small Field (6) could also want to be involved early. If Force Of Justice (13) and Ramsey (14) are both closers, the race could set up perfectly for them if the leaders go too fast. The pace scenario strongly favors the top choices coming from off the pace.

Key Contenders

Force Of Justice (13) at 1-1 is the morning line chalk, trained by Virginia Demczyk with Ricardo Barrios up. The 1-1 price in a 14-horse turf optional claimer suggests this horse has dominant recent form that the market is recognizing strongly. Post 13 is tough in any large field, but a horse that deserves even-money favoritism should have the class to overcome post position bias. The concern is legitimate value: betting 1-1 in a 14-horse turf race is a poor expected-value proposition unless this horse is genuinely elite at this class level.

Ramsey (14) at 2-1, trained by Jeff Fletcher with Charle Oliveros riding, runs from the worst post in the race but carries second-choice market position. Fletcher and Oliveros are a capable combination, and if Ramsey has demonstrated gate-to-wire ability or a strong turn of foot, the outside post is manageable at 1540 furlongs. At 2-1, slightly better value than the favorite, but still short for this field scenario.

Undalay (3) at 3-1, trained by Jay P. Bernardini with Brandon Tapara up, is the better betting proposition among the top tier. Post 3 is excellent in a 14-horse turf field, giving Tapara the ability to get position early and save ground. Bernardini is active on this card and clearly has horses in good form. The 3-1 price with an inside post in a race where the chalk and second choice both face outside draws makes Undalay an excellent value alternative.

Secondary Choices

Royal Salute (11) at 3-1, the second Bernardini trainee in this race with Oliveros up, provides an interesting stable dynamic. With both Undalay (3) and Royal Salute (11) at the same price, Bernardini clearly likes both. If bettors must choose, Undalay (3) gets the edge for post position, but Royal Salute (11) is worth using underneath.

El Ondeado (5) at 4-1, trained by Dennis Cluley with Kevin Gonzalez, and Small Field (6) at 4-1, trained by Shane Meyers with Alexander Chavez, are legitimate secondary choices. Both trainers are active at Mountaineer, and both horses have workable mid-field posts. Gonzalez in particular is a strong jockey who can navigate large turf fields.

Longshots

Priority Lane (7) at 8-1, trained by Juan Pablo Silva with Arroyo Jr., is the most intriguing longshot in the field given the top-quality jockey and a trainer with multiple horses firing on this card. Uncle Truly (10) at 6-1 for trainer Edward Clouston with D.L. Parker gives modest value. Letmeknowbeforeugo (8) at 7-1, where trainer Alejandro Gomez again takes the riding duties, is the trainer-rider combination worth monitoring. Stomping Moon (1) at 10-1 for Pizzurro with Augustin Bracho has the inside post advantage in a turf race. Mr Harry (2) at 20-1 for Burton K. Sipp and Ghostlyprince (4) at 20-1 for Edwin L. Tobin are likely overmatched. Declaration Time (12) at 10-1 for Lawrence M. Smith with Brandon Tapara is a conflict note: Tapara cannot ride both Undalay (3) and Declaration Time (12), so the jockey assignment listed should be verified at the scratch deadline. Marsala Monarch (9) at 15-1 rounds out the field.

Betting Strategy

Key Undalay (3) on top of Royal Salute (11), El Ondeado (5), and Small Field (6) in exactas. Include Force Of Justice (13) and Ramsey (14) as underneath options in trifectas but avoid them as win bets at their respective prices. A $1 exacta box of Undalay (3), Royal Salute (11), and Force Of Justice (13) offers smart coverage.

Note on the jockey conflict: TAPARA BRANDON cannot ride both Undalay (3) and Declaration Time (12). Verify the confirmed jockey assignments at post time as one of these entries will have a change.

Selections

Win: Undalay (3) Place: Force Of Justice (13) Show: El Ondeado (5)

RACE 5 — Post (8:40)/7:40/6:40/5:40 — 1320f | D | M | Md 15000 | BUN | Purse $13,500

Eight maiden claimers at $15,000, a mile on the dirt for a field that includes Ocata (6) as the 2-1 favorite and All Roads To Denis (8) at 3-1 as the second choice. This is a relatively manageable field for handicapping purposes with a clear market hierarchy.

Pace Analysis

Ocata (6) from post 6 with Kevin Gonzalez in the irons is likely to be involved near the front or at the lead. All Roads To Denis (8) at 3-1, trained by Angelo G. Jackson with Arroyo Jr., will probably stalk. Midnight Stroller (2) at 4-1 is a second choice that could also figure in the pace scenario. If Ocata controls the pace comfortably, it becomes very dangerous; if there is a pace duel, All Roads To Denis (8) could pick up the pieces.

Key Contenders

Ocata (6) at 2-1, trained by Dennis Cluley and ridden by Kevin Gonzalez, draws the clear market favoritism. Cluley is a prolific Mountaineer trainer and Gonzalez is one of the meet's leading jockeys. Post 6 in an eight-horse field at a mile is workable. The 2-1 price is again short, but Cluley and Gonzalez have demonstrated winning chemistry at this track.

All Roads To Denis (8) at 3-1, trained by Angelo G. Jackson with Arroyo Jr., is positioned perfectly as the betting alternative. The outside post 8 in a maiden claimer at a mile does not carry the same concern as it would in a shorter sprint, and Arroyo Jr. is experienced enough to take back and find a position early. Jackson has horses that try hard, and at 3-1, this is outstanding value if the horse has the class edge over the field.

Secondary Choices

Midnight Stroller (2) at 4-1, trained by Devan Ewell Sr. with Kyle Gilbert, brings a good inside post and a fair price. Ewell also trains The Groom's Jul (3) at 8-1 with Augustin Bracho, another barn double. Gilbert is a capable Mountaineer rider and Midnight Stroller (2) is worth including in trifectas.

Magi Cal Nation (1) at 5-1, trained by J. Michael Baird with Jose A. Leon, holds the rail and could benefit from a ground-saving trip in the early going. Baird is a solid conditioner and Leon rides the rail horse well when the pace allows it.

Longshots

The Groom's Jul (3) at 8-1 is the Ewell double's longer shot, worth a small exotic play. Team Mischievous (4) at 10-1, trained by Tina Ramgeet with A.R. Ramgeet, is another family combination worth noting at a price. Arapaho Nation (5) at 12-1 for trainer Jami C. Poole with Elijah Greenidge is a longer shot, while Aspiring Queen (7) at 20-1 for Poole with V. Carrero is essentially a throwout at this price in an eight-horse maiden field.

Betting Strategy

Win bet on All Roads To Denis (8) at 3-1 for value. Exacta key: All Roads To Denis (8) on top of Ocata (6), Midnight Stroller (2), and Magi Cal Nation (1). Include Ocata (6) on top in exactas reversed with All Roads To Denis (8) underneath. This race is an excellent Pick 4 opener if playing later races.

Selections

Win: All Roads To Denis (8) Place: Ocata (6) Show: Midnight Stroller (2)

RACE 6 — Post (9:05)/8:05/7:05/6:05 — 1210f | D | AO | OClm 20000n4l | BUN | Purse $22,000

Six runners in the night's richest race at $22,000 for older optional claimers going 1210 furlongs on the dirt. Zealous Storm (4) is the 1-1 morning line favorite, with You Bet A Fortune (1) at 2-1 and Dembe Zuma (6) at 5-1. This is a manageable field for a high-percentage approach.

Pace Analysis

With six horses and two morning line co-favorites at 1-1 and 2-1, this shapes up as a two-horse battle at the top, with the pace being heavily influenced by what Zealous Storm (4) and You Bet A Fortune (1) choose to do. If both want the lead, the fractions could be taxing. Dembe Zuma (6) and Zen Nation (2) could be beneficiaries if the top two duel themselves into submission. The pace is the critical factor in this race.

Key Contenders

Zealous Storm (4) at 1-1 is the morning line hammer, trained by Juan Pablo Silva and ridden by N. Arroyo Jr. Silva has horses live throughout the card tonight, and tapping Arroyo Jr. for this race signals maximum confidence. The 1-1 price in a six-horse optional claimer is daunting from a value standpoint, but when a trainer of Silva's caliber sends his best jockey at this price, the horse clearly has earned the right to be favored. Post 4 in a six-horse sprint is ideal.

You Bet A Fortune (1) at 2-1, trained by Jay P. Bernardini with Brandon Tapara, is the challenger. Bernardini is everywhere on this card, and the rail in a sprint at Mountaineer is not a disadvantage. Tapara is a competent rider who can take advantage of a front-running or stalking trip from the inside. At 2-1, this is the value play against the chalk.

Secondary Choices

Dembe Zuma (6) at 5-1, trained by Jami C. Poole with Elijah Greenidge, is the race's best longshot play. Post 6 in a six-horse sprint puts this horse on the outside, but at 5-1 with a closing style, if the top two duel, Dembe Zuma arrives late. Poole has two horses in this race, Dembe Zuma (6) and Zen Nation (2) at 7-1, suggesting the barn has legitimate contenders at both prices. Zen Nation (2) with Michael Y. Pagan is worth considering in trifecta construction.

Longshots

Indian Empire (3) at 10-1, trained by Jennifer A. Johnson with Gonzalez, is a borderline longshot in a six-horse field, suggesting the morning line has assessed this horse as outclassed but competent enough to threaten at a price. My Lucky Deia (5) at 15-1 for Silva, the trainer's second entry with Jose A. Leon, appears to be the barn's B-entry and can likely be passed.

Betting Strategy

At 1-1, Zealous Storm (4) is unplayable to win for value. The play is You Bet A Fortune (1) to win at 2-1, with the exacta keying You Bet A Fortune (1) on top and underneath with Zealous Storm (4). Include Dembe Zuma (6) in exacta and trifecta combinations for payoff upside. A $2 exacta You Bet A Fortune (1) over Zealous Storm (4) is the primary wager.

Selections

Win: You Bet A Fortune (1) Place: Zealous Storm (4) Show: Dembe Zuma (6)

RACE 7 — Post (9:30)/8:30/7:30/6:30 — 1210f | D | AO | OClm 15000n4l | BUN | Purse $22,000

Seven runners in the second optional claimer of the night, this one carded at $15,000 but for the same $22,000 purse. Prince Jeremy (3) and Out Of Cents (4) share 2-1 morning line favoritism, with Giacomo Casanova (1) at 3-1. This is an open race with three legitimate win candidates.

Pace Analysis

Prince Jeremy (3) and Out Of Cents (4) are co-favorites, and their pace styles will determine the complexion of this race. If both are front-runners, the duel creates opportunity for Giacomo Casanova (1) from the rail to ambush. Union Branch (2) at 8-1 could stalk and benefit from pace collapse. The race is set up for a pressing or stalking type to come through if the leaders fight each other.

Key Contenders

Prince Jeremy (3) at 2-1, trained by Dennis Cluley and ridden by Kevin Gonzalez, is Cluley's second sharp entry of the night (he also has Ocata (6) in Race 5). Gonzalez riding the favorite in both races says something about the trainer's stable depth tonight. At 2-1, Prince Jeremy deserves the top line on class and connections alone.

Out Of Cents (4) at 2-1, trained by Edward Clouston with J. Stokes, shares the favoritism from post 4. Clouston is a steady Mountaineer conditioner, and the 2-1 price suggests legitimate form. Post 4 in a seven-horse sprint is ideal positioning.

Giacomo Casanova (1) at 3-1, trained by J. Michael Baird with D.L. Parker, holds the rail with a slightly higher morning line than the co-favorites. Baird and Parker are a solid pairing, and from the inside in a sprint, Parker can work out a clean trip. At 3-1 with a rail post, this is the race's best value play. If the co-favorites duel, Giacomo Casanova is perfectly positioned to steal the race.

Secondary Choices

A Ok (5) at 5-1, trained by Jay P. Bernardini with Brandon Tapara, represents Bernardini's continued presence throughout the card. Post 5 is workable and Tapara is sharp tonight. At 5-1, A Ok (5) has the value to be included in exacta and trifecta plays.

Union Branch (2) at 8-1, trained by John R. Shuler with Arroyo Jr., is interesting as Arroyo's last mount of a busy night. Shuler and Arroyo have worked together on this card, and at 8-1 a horse with the second-best jockey on the circuit at this track represents genuine overlay potential if the pace collapses.

Longshots

Chief Randel (6) at 10-1 for Terry Crago with Kyle Gilbert is a throwout price in a seven-horse field but could provide trifecta value. Candy Connection (7) at 30-1 for Tomas Martinez with Charle Oliveros is almost certainly outclassed at this price.

Betting Strategy

Giacomo Casanova (1) at 3-1 is the value win play of this race. Exacta: Giacomo Casanova (1) over Prince Jeremy (3), Out Of Cents (4), and A Ok (5). Also play Prince Jeremy (3) and Out Of Cents (4) reversed in the exacta with Giacomo Casanova (1) underneath. A $1 trifecta using Giacomo Casanova (1), Prince Jeremy (3), and Out Of Cents (4) in all combinations is recommended.

Selections

Win: Giacomo Casanova (1) Place: Prince Jeremy (3) Show: Out Of Cents (4)

RACE 8 — Post (9:55)/8:55/7:55/6:55 — 1320f | D | C | Clm 7500b | BUN | Purse $13,000

Ten runners in the nightcap at a $7,500 claiming level on the dirt. Norfie (6) at 3-1 is the morning line favorite, with Go Collector (7) and Quistmer (9) co-second choices at 4-1. High Rolling Dude (5) at 5-1 provides a fourth legitimate choice.

Pace Analysis

Norfie (6) and Go Collector (7) are adjacent in post position and both carry meaningful early speed potential based on their morning line positions. High Rolling Dude (5) at 5-1 with Gonzalez could also want to press. If multiple horses fight for the lead, a mild pace collapse setting up Quistmer (9) with Arroyo Jr. is a realistic scenario. This race has contested-pace tendencies.

Key Contenders

Norfie (6) at 3-1, trained by Renaldo Richards with D.L. Parker, is the most popular selection in the nightcap. Richards trains Belts 'n Brooks (10) at 8-1 as well, making this another trainer double. Parker has had an active night and is an experienced hand at Mountaineer. The 3-1 price is reasonable in a 10-horse field at this level. Norfie (6) gets the top line.

Quistmer (9) at 4-1, trained by Jay P. Bernardini and ridden by N. Arroyo Jr., is Bernardini's fourth runner on the card. Arroyo Jr. on Bernardini's horse late in the night is a combination worth respecting. Post 9 is mid-to-outside in a 10-horse field, but a horse with a closing style benefits from the pace scenario described above. At 4-1 with top connections, this is the value alternative.

Go Collector (7) at 4-1, trained by Sergio Donjuan with Luis Alberto Batista, is the third co-choice. Donjuan is active at Mountaineer and Batista has ridden quietly throughout the card. Post 7 is workable and the 4-1 price is competitive.

Secondary Choices

High Rolling Dude (5) at 5-1, trained by Crystal Cain with Gonzalez, is interesting because Gonzalez wrapping up his night here suggests a good book. If Gonzalez has the right horse for the price scenario, High Rolling Dude can be a factor. Cain is a legitimate Mountaineer trainer at this level.

Poppy's Pride (8) at 6-1, trained by Robert S. Scallan with Maikol Vilchez, is a secondary consideration. Scallan also trained Finn D'oro (6) in Race 1. The 6-1 price in a $7,500 claimer has appeal for an exacta spot.

Belts 'n Brooks (10) at 8-1, the Richards second string with Jourae A. Williams, is worth a trifecta bottom slot as the stablemate to the favorite.

Longshots

Jester's Song (4) at 10-1, trained by Sherry L. Jackson with W. Cullum, is a fringe player. Unpredictable Bay (3) at 15-1 for Stephani Norris with Elijah Greenidge could spring a minor surprise at the right price for trifecta purposes. Corman (2) at 20-1 for Terry Crago and Homerunhappy (1) at 20-1 for Boris Kocijan are likely overmatched.

Betting Strategy

Win bet on Quistmer (9) at 4-1 for value over the favorite. Exacta key: Norfie (6) and Quistmer (9) in both directions. Add Go Collector (7) and High Rolling Dude (5) in trifecta coverage. A $0.50 trifecta wheel using Norfie (6) and Quistmer (9) on top with four others underneath is the recommended structure.

Selections

Win: Quistmer (9) Place: Norfie (6) Show: Go Collector (7)

Jockey Notes and Insights

N. Arroyo Jr. is the busiest and arguably the most impactful rider on tonight's card, with mounts in Races 1, 2, 4, 5, 6, 7, and 8. He sits aboard the morning line favorites or key contenders in multiple races, including Crime Lord (3) in Race 1, Something Sweet (9) in Race 2, Priority Lane (7) in Race 4, All Roads To Denis (8) in Race 5, Zealous Storm (4) in Race 6, Union Branch (2) in Race 7, and Quistmer (9) in Race 8. His record at Mountaineer suggests he finishes near or at the top of the jockey standings on a consistent basis, and nights when Arroyo Jr. is this active with quality mounts often result in multiple wins.

Kevin Gonzalez is equally prolific on this card with mounts in Races 1, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, and 8, including the morning line favorite Shotgun Margaret (10) in Race 2 and Prince Jeremy (3) in Race 7. Gonzalez's riding at Mountaineer is competitive with Arroyo Jr., and a night with this many high-profile mounts gives him multiple opportunities to contribute to winning exactas and trifectas.

Brandon Tapara has quality mounts across the card, including You Bet A Fortune (1) in Race 6 and A Ok (5) in Race 7, reflecting Bernardini's trust in the rider. Note the potential conflict in Race 4 where Tapara is listed on both Undalay (3) and Declaration Time (12), which will require a jockey change on one of those horses.

Bailey Weatherly appears in Races 2, 3, 4, and 5 with a varied book, suggesting steady work throughout the evening. Maikol Vilchez picks up mounts in Races 1, 2, 3, and 8, covering both ends of the card.

Kyle Gilbert has a quiet but workable book with mounts in Races 5, 7, and 8. D.L. Parker's book includes top rides such as Giacomo Casanova (1) in Race 7 and Norfie (6) in Race 8, both morning line favorites, which gives Parker a high-profile finish to the card.

Trainer Notes and Insights

Juan Pablo Silva is among the most active trainers on tonight's card, sending out horses in Races 1, 4, and 6, including the 1-1 morning line favorite Zealous Storm (4) in Race 6 with Arroyo Jr. Silva's willingness to pair with the meet's top jockey for his best horse of the night signals the stable is in a productive cycle.

Jay P. Bernardini is the card's busiest trainer, entering horses in Races 3, 4, 7, and 8. The multiple entries and consistent rider assignments suggest a stable with depth, and bettors should note that Bernardini's nightly win rates at Mountaineer are worth tracking. His pairing with Tapara and Arroyo Jr. on key horses throughout the card is a positive indicator.

Dennis Cluley trains horses in Races 4, 5, and 7, including Ocata (6) at 2-1 in Race 5 and Prince Jeremy (3) at 2-1 in Race 7, both morning line favorites. A night where a trainer has two morning line favorites is worth noting, and if both horses fire, exacta sequences in the Pick 4 and Pick 5 become potentially lucrative.

Eric R. Reed is a nationally known turf trainer who surfaces in Race 2 with Dreamwifedreamlife (3) and Pivot To The Power (11). Reed's turf operation typically runs horses that are well-prepared for the surface, and even at a secondary venue like Mountaineer, his double entry at 8-1 and 5-1 respectively demands respect.

Alejandro Gomez trains horses in Races 2, 3, and 4 and rides his own trainee in both Races 3 and 4, a trainer-rider combination that carries historical value at smaller tracks where trainers know their horses' condition intimately. Watch Good Enough For Me (2) in Race 3 and Letmeknowbeforeugo (8) in Race 4 as potential overlays if the form justifies.

Devan Ewell Sr. trains both Midnight Stroller (2) and The Groom's Jul (3) in Race 5, a barn double where the 4-1 Midnight Stroller (2) is the logical choice but The Groom's Jul (3) at 8-1 could surprise.

Burton K. Sipp trains Broham (2) in Race 1 and Mr Harry (2) in Race 4. The Race 1 entry is the relevant one for handicapping purposes as Broham (2) offers genuine value at 5-1.

Best Wagering Strategies and Value Plays

The Pick 5 structure at Mountaineer, if available across Races 4 through 8, represents the best multi-race wagering opportunity on the card. Suggested construction: Race 4 — Undalay (3), Force Of Justice (13); Race 5 — All Roads To Denis (8), Ocata (6); Race 6 — You Bet A Fortune (1), Zealous Storm (4); Race 7 — Giacomo Casanova (1), Prince Jeremy (3), Out Of Cents (4); Race 8 — Quistmer (9), Norfie (6). A 2x2x2x3x2 structure at $0.50 base totals $24 and covers the primary scenarios in each race.

For the Pick 4 covering Races 5 through 8, the suggested structure is: Race 5 — All Roads To Denis (8), Ocata (6); Race 6 — You Bet A Fortune (1), Zealous Storm (4); Race 7 — Giacomo Casanova (1), Prince Jeremy (3); Race 8 — Quistmer (9), Norfie (6), Go Collector (7). A $1 base 2x2x2x3 Pick 4 costs $24 and provides solid coverage.

Best win value plays on the card: All Roads To Denis (8) at 3-1 in Race 5, Giacomo Casanova (1) at 3-1 in Race 7, Quistmer (9) at 4-1 in Race 8, and You Bet A Fortune (1) at 2-1 in Race 6 all represent the top win value plays of the evening given their connections and price levels versus the odds-on or near odds-on alternatives.

The most overpriced favorite on the card is Force Of Justice (13) at 1-1 in Race 4 in a 14-horse turf field. That is a price that no serious bettor should accept in a field of that size, regardless of form. Undalay (3) at 3-1 with a perfect inside post is the sharp play against the chalk in that race.

The best exacta play of the night is You Bet A Fortune (1) over Zealous Storm (4) in Race 6, targeting a small field with clear hierarchy. The reverse exacta Zealous Storm (4) over You Bet A Fortune (1) is worth equal consideration at a lower cost, creating a $4 exacta box that should return well given the 2-1 and 1-1 prices.

Race 3 with 14 horses on the turf presents the best trifecta opportunity of the card. A $0.50 trifecta part-wheel using Quince (1) and Sip'n' Speed (8) on top with Rock Tune (11), Mo Touring (3), Siljim (5), and Una Roca (14) in various combinations for $12 to $18 total investment could produce a triple-digit payoff if the field runs true to form.

Race 2 is the card's most attractive race for exacta value given the competitive 11-horse turf allowance field. Something Sweet (9) over Shotgun Margaret (10) and the reverse at roughly 4-1 and 3-1 should produce a modest but solid exacta payoff. Including Pivot To The Power (11) in a trifecta box adds upside.
