Mountaineer Park Race Day Overview — Tuesday, October 6, 2026

Mountaineer Park kicks off its Tuesday evening card with eight races spanning a range of conditions from cheap claimers to optional claimers carrying purses up to $21,000. The card is dominated by turf action early before transitioning to the main dirt track for the back half of the program. The field sizes are large throughout, particularly in Race 2, which goes to the post with a massive 14-horse field. Trainer Jay P. Bernardini is omnipresent on this card, saddling runners in nearly every race and deserving close attention as the day's dominant conditioner. Juan Carlos Vazquez also has multiple entries and figures to be a factor throughout the afternoon. The card offers solid exotic wagering opportunities, particularly in the turf sprints and the two-turn routes, where pace dynamics and trip concerns can create overlay situations.

Notable on today's card: Vazquez enters two horses in Race 2 and two in Race 3, triggering coupled entry rules that bettors should factor into their exotic strategies. Similarly, Bernardini has two horses in Race 5 and two in Race 3, which may affect pool distributions.

Weather and Track Conditions

October in Chester, West Virginia, historically brings cool, stable conditions with average highs in the low-to-mid 60s Fahrenheit. For the evening of October 6, 2026, conditions are expected to be seasonably cool with temperatures dropping into the low 50s by post time for the later races. No significant precipitation is anticipated, which should allow both the turf course and dirt main track to present at or near their optimal surfaces.

The Mountaineer Park turf course has historically played fair with a slight lean toward horses that can sit just off the pace or rate within striking distance in the final turn. The dirt track at Mountaineer is a one-mile oval that tends to favor early speed, particularly in the sprint distances, though horses with tactical speed often find success by saving ground on the inside in route races. With dry conditions expected, both surfaces should be labeled fast and firm respectively by post time.

Track Bias and Post Position Analysis

On the Mountaineer dirt track, early speed is a meaningful factor in sprint distances (990f and 1210f), where inside posts have historically performed well when the track is rated fast. In the 990f sprint (Race 6 on today's card), horses from Posts 1-3 tend to establish position quickly into the first turn and can clear to the rail, representing a positive angle for pace-pressers.

In the 1210f dirt sprints (Races 4, 7, and 8), inside and middle posts tend to be advantageous, as horses can obtain good tracking positions without burning excessive energy. The far outside posts in seven-horse or smaller fields are less of a concern but should still be noted in larger groups.

On the turf course, the rail at Mountaineer has been reported in reasonable condition this fall meet. In the longer turf routes (1760f), middle posts offer horses a clean path to settle on the fence or find the hedge, while extreme outside posts face the disadvantage of covering additional ground around the turns. In the 1540f turf sprint (Race 3), the inside posts carry some risk of traffic through the first quarter, so mid-draw runners deserve a slight upgrade.

Overall, today's bias leans toward early speed on dirt and stalker-types on the turf routes.

RACE 1 — Post (7:00) — 1760f | T | C | Clm 4000n1l | BUN | Purse $11,000

This is a one-mile turf route restricted to claimers that have not won a lifetime claiming race. With the n1l condition in play, the field is composed of horses searching for a breakthrough win, which often produces unpredictable pace dynamics. The purse of $11,000 at the $4,000 claiming level represents the basement of today's card.

Pace Analysis

With ten horses entered, the pace scenario is somewhat muddled. Beachwalker (POST 5) and My Two Aunt Joans (POST 6) project as the likely early pace-setters based on their morning line positioning and connections. The turf course at this distance favors horses that can rate and close, so a contested early pace could open the door for closers. Centsofwander (POST 10) and Loony (POST 2) profile as potential stalkers or closers depending on how the early fractions unfold.

Key Contenders

My Two Aunt Joans (POST 6) is the morning line favorite at 2-1 and comes from the barn of trainer Alysha Robillard with Norbert Arroyo Jr. aboard. Arroyo is one of the more accomplished jockeys on the Mountaineer circuit and provides a meaningful positive angle for any horse he rides at this level. The 2-1 morning line suggests this horse has demonstrated enough form in recent efforts to be considered the class of this restricted field. Arroyo's ability to find good position early in turf routes and rate horses into the stretch is a strong fit for the 1760f distance. At the $4,000 claiming level on the turf, Robillard's runners have shown the capacity to fire fresh or off short rest, and this horse deserves top billing.

Beachwalker (POST 5) is the second choice at 4-1 under trainer Juan Carlos Vazquez with Luis Negron up. Vazquez is the most active trainer on today's card, and his horses are consistently fit and competitive. Negron is a reliable hand who knows this track well. BEACHWALKER is drawn favorably in Post 5 and should be forwardly placed from the outset. Any advantage Negron can establish into the first turn could translate into a clear advantage through the middle portions of this turf route.

Secondary Choices

Centsofwander (POST 10) at 6-1 with Jeff Fletcher training and Y. Yaranga in the irons deserves serious consideration. The outside post is a mild concern on the turf, but if this horse can find a clean trip and get into rhythm, the price warrants inclusion in exotics. Fletcher has been known to spot horses well at this level.

Loony (POST 2) at 7-1 is a price worth exploring. Humberto Haldar has the mount for trainer Johanson Serrano. The Post 2 draw is workable on the turf, and if Loony (POST 2) can find a stalking trip just behind the early pace, the closer's profile on the turf at a mile could prove productive.

Train And Trust (POST 8) at 9-1 from the Vazquez barn with Miguel Martinez up is a secondary Vazquez entry that could improve on prior form. The coupling of Beachwalker (POST 5) and Train And Trust (POST 8) as a Vazquez entry may create value in the exotics if one of them is bet heavily while the other gets overlooked.

Longshots

Fabelman (POST 7) at 10-1 for trainer Donald T. Blankenship with Bailey Weatherly aboard is a name to watch. Weatherly is a capable apprentice-level rider who has been competitive in recent weeks at Mountaineer, and the price is interesting if the pace sets up favorably.

Parade Of Fears (POST 4) at 12-1 from trainer Jay P. Bernardini and rider Luis Tapara represents the Bernardini connection, which should never be completely dismissed. However, the layered morning line and the 12-1 price suggest this runner is facing a tough task against My Two Aunt Joans (POST 6) and Beachwalker (POST 5).

Wiley Willard (POST 9) at 15-1 from the Bernardini barn with D.L. Parker is a second Bernardini entry and may be live if coupled, though the 15-1 reflects the challenge of the spot. You Are Awesome (POST 1) at 15-1 for trainer Julia Gilbert with Kyle Gilbert up is a family-connected stable entry that faces a difficult task at this price. Sugar Lips (POST 3) at 20-1 for trainer Gary R. Welsh with Jose A. Leon looks like a true longshot who would need a significant pace collapse to contend. SOME R BLESSED is not in this race. GROWTH CAPITAL is not in this race.

Betting Strategy

Single My Two Aunt Joans (POST 6) on top in win wagers and use as the key in exactas. Box My Two Aunt Joans (POST 6), Beachwalker (POST 5), and Centsofwander (POST 10) in trifectas. Consider including Loony (POST 2) as a fourth horse in the trifecta if budget allows.

Selections

Win: My Two Aunt Joans (POST 6) Place: Beachwalker (POST 5) Show: Centsofwander (POST 10)

RACE 2 — Post (7:25) — 1760f | T | AO | OClm 15000n3x | BUN | Purse $21,000

This is the richest race on the turf portion of today's card at $21,000, a one-mile optional claimer restricted to horses that have not won three races at the claiming level. The 14-horse field is massive and creates significant traffic concerns, particularly in the first turn of this turf route. The class level is meaningfully higher than Race 1, and the connections reflect some of the more accomplished horsemen at this meet.

Pace Analysis

With 14 runners, finding a clean trip will be at a premium. Italian Symphony (POST 2) and Nate The Great (POST 13) both carry short morning lines of 2-1 and 3-1 respectively, suggesting two distinct camps of support and likely a contested pace scenario. Legal Titan (POST 1) from the rail has a great opportunity to establish position if the horse has any early foot. The large field could produce a slow early tempo if horses bunch and wait, which would favor closers like Jujubee (POST 6) at 3-1. Alternatively, a hot pace with multiple speed horses jockeying for position would set the table for a deep closer to sweep past late.

Key Contenders

Italian Symphony (POST 2) at 2-1 is co-favored and comes from trainer Shane Meyers with Alexander Chavez up. Meyers and Chavez form a productive combination at Mountaineer, and the Post 2 draw is excellent for a turf route, allowing the horse to find the rail or settle just off it without burning energy. The 2-1 morning line reflects legitimate class and consistent form. Chavez has been strong on the local circuit.

Nate The Great (POST 13) at 3-1 is co-favored with trainer Jeffrey D. Allen and Luis Alberto Batista up. The outside draw in Post 13 of a 14-horse field is a significant concern in a turf route, as the horse will be forced wide around the first turn and cover additional ground. However, the market's confidence at 3-1 despite the post suggests sharp money has found enough form here to warrant the price. Batista is an experienced hand who will need to make a quick decision about whether to save ground or stay wide.

Archimedes (POST 14) at 2-1 is the other co-morning line favorite from trainer Anthony Farrior with L.R. Rivera up. Post 14 in a 14-horse turf field is the most compromised draw on the board. Rivera will need to hustle this horse into position early or accept a wide trip, both of which carry cost. Despite the morning line, the post deserves a meaningful downgrade in actual wagering.

Secondary Choices

Jujubee (POST 6) at 3-1 from trainer Richard Estvanko with Jose A. Bracho is the most attractively positioned of the principals. Post 6 is near ideal in a 14-horse turf field, allowing the horse to find cover and rate comfortably. Estvanko has a sharp eye for spotting horses in spots where they can win, and Jujubee (POST 6) comes into this optional claimer at a price that makes sense if the pace gets hot up front.

Z Dancer (POST 5) at 5-1 is a second Vazquez entry alongside Battuta D'oro (POST 3). The 5-1 price makes Z Dancer (POST 5) an interesting value play if Negron, who has the Tricky Tiger (POST 11) call, is replaced. Note: Tricky Tiger (POST 11) at 10-1 from the Bernardini barn with Negron up creates a situation where the jockey carousel may be important. Check late jockey changes for the Vazquez and Bernardini stables.

Legal Titan (POST 1) at 7-1 from trainer Wallace A. Jenkins with Arroyo aboard has the rail, which on the Mountaineer turf at a mile can be a decided advantage if the horse can clear to the fence early. The 7-1 represents a legitimate overlay if this horse has the tactical speed to use the rail effectively.

Longshots

Battuta D'oro (POST 3) at 9-1 is the less-fancied Vazquez entry but draws a workable inside post. St. Louie Louie (POST 7) at 10-1 from trainer Benny R. Feliciano with R. Feliciano up is a family-connected barn entry that can occasionally surprise when the price gets this long. Afraidofthebunny (POST 4) at 12-1 is a name that will attract recreational bettors but the price and form may not justify serious inclusion. Tricky Tiger (POST 11) at 10-1 is worth a small inclusion in deep trifecta tickets as a Bernardini runner who could be live. Xiao Long (POST 12) at 15-1 with Bruce DeStefano training and Alejandro Gomez up is a deep longshot. Runningforjoy (POST 8) at 15-1 for trainer Leland Hayes with Erik Barbaran riding is another deep longshot. If I Were You (POST 10) at 20-1 from trainer Robert S. Scallan with Bailey Weatherly faces a tough task. Bosley (POST 9) at 20-1 for trainer Dennis Cluley with Kevin Gonzalez represents the longest of prices and is best left off exotic tickets.

Betting Strategy

The wide fields make trifecta and superfecta wagering attractive here. Use Jujubee (POST 6) and Italian Symphony (POST 2) as the top two in exactas. In trifectas, spread underneath with Legal Titan (POST 1), Z Dancer (POST 5), and Nate The Great (POST 13), while fading Archimedes (POST 14) on the basis of the post draw alone.

Selections

Win: Jujubee (POST 6) Place: Italian Symphony (POST 2) Show: Legal Titan (POST 1)

RACE 3 — Post (7:50) — 1540f | T | C | Clm 7500b | BUN | Purse $13,000

A 13-horse turf sprint at approximately 1540 feet, this claiming event carries a $7,500 claiming tag with a $13,000 purse. The field is loaded with horses from familiar Mountaineer barns. The b designation at the end of the class indicates this is a bottom claiming level race, restricted in some fashion that may impact eligibility. With two Bernardini entries and two Negron rides in the Bernardini barn as well as a Vazquez entry, the connections are again prominent.

Pace Analysis

This 1540f turf sprint will see horses sharply contested through the early stages. Bring Me A Check (POST 2) at 2-1 appears to be the class of the field based on the morning line and trainer Juan R. Aguirre's connections. Small Field (POST 5) at 3-1 from Shane Meyers will also be forwardly placed. The pace in a turf sprint of this distance can get very fast, as horses dig in from the outset. A contested pace could favor closers, but the turf at Mountaineer at 1540f does not always reward deep closers the way longer routes do. Tactical horses that rate in second or third and pounce in the stretch are ideal in this scenario.

Key Contenders

Bring Me A Check (POST 2) at 2-1 from trainer Juan R. Aguirre with Luis Tapara up is the morning line choice and deserves respect. Aguirre has been effective placing horses at this level, and Tapara is a reliable rider who can rate and sprint. The inside post draw is excellent for a turf sprint, allowing Bring Me A Check (POST 2) to break cleanly and establish a ground-saving position.

Small Field (POST 5) at 3-1 from trainer Shane Meyers with Alexander Chavez up is the main danger. Meyers was noted earlier with Italian Symphony (POST 2) in Race 2, and if that horse runs well it will reinforce confidence in this stable's horses on today's turf. Chavez riding back-to-back for Meyers is a good trainer-jockey angle to monitor. Post 5 is workable in a turf sprint.

Secondary Choices

My Balboa (POST 3) at 5-1 from trainer Jennifer A. Johnson with F. Garcia up is at a workable price. Post 3 in a turf sprint is near ideal, and if this horse has the early foot to establish a striking position, Garcia can guide the horse through a clean trip.

Button Box (POST 9) at 7-1 from trainer Crystal Cain with Kevin Gonzalez up is an interesting price. Further back in the starting sequence, this horse may find its best running late in the turf sprint, which is a risky strategy but pays off at the right price.

Cool Couple (POST 8) at 9-1 from trainer Jabdiel Castillo with D.L. Parker aboard is a secondary consideration. Parker has had several mounts today and is a jockey worth tracking at this meet. The 9-1 makes Cool Couple (POST 8) a reasonable inclusion in trifecta tickets.

Longshots

Bold Advance (POST 1) at 10-1 from trainer Michael E. Jones Jr. with Luis Alberto Batista up has the rail in a turf sprint, which can be a gift or a curse depending on the break. At 10-1, Bold Advance (POST 1) has some appeal if the horse fires early and clears. Uncle William (POST 11) at 10-1 from trainer Juan Carlos Vazquez with Luis Negron up is the Vazquez representative and should never be completely dismissed. Post 11 in a turf sprint is a concern for ground loss, but Negron is experienced enough to manage the trip. Growth Capital (POST 4) at 12-1 from trainer Jeff W. Zook with Jose A. Leon aboard is a mid-priced longshot. Why Not Me (POST 13) at 12-1 from trainer Chad T. Skelton with Rocco Bowen up is the widest post in the race and faces a difficult trip. Trikitraki (POST 10) at 15-1 from trainer Bernardini with Brandon Tapara aboard is a second Bernardini entry and merits a small mention for exacta bottom or trifecta fourth leg inclusion. Theo's Thunder (POST 12) at 15-1 from trainer Brandon Glasgow with Elijah Greenidge is a deep price. Khozando (POST 6) at 20-1 from trainer Jeff Fletcher with Yaranga up is well behind the main contenders in the market. Some R Blessed (POST 7) at 20-1 from trainer Bernardini with Luis Negron returns for a third Bernardini runner and is best used only in superfectas.

Betting Strategy

Exacta box of Bring Me A Check (POST 2) and Small Field (POST 5) is the foundation wager. Add My Balboa (POST 3) in trifectas. Consider a small win wager on Button Box (POST 9) for value.

Selections

Win: Bring Me A Check (POST 2) Place: Small Field (POST 5) Show: My Balboa (POST 3)

RACE 4 — Post (8:15) — 1210f | D | R | Alw 3200s | BUN | Purse $14,000

The first dirt race on the card is a 1210f allowance at the 3200 claiming level, which in Mountaineer parlance refers to a state-bred or regional allowance restricted by earnings or eligibility. Eight horses are entered, and this is a manageable field for handicapping purposes. Bernardini has two entries in Bailamos (POST 3) and Align (POST 6), and Aguirre saddles two runners as well in Quistmer (POST 2) and Gilligan (POST 8).

Pace Analysis

Quistmer (POST 2) and Align (POST 6) figure to be the primary speed horses based on their morning line prices and connections. In a 1210f dirt sprint, the horse that clears to the front on or near the turn is often difficult to catch. Bernardini's Bailamos (POST 3) and Align (POST 6) could set up a pace scenario where one pressures the other, potentially opening the door for closers. Mighty Mo (POST 7) from Vazquez at 4-1 profiles as a pace-presser or stalker who could benefit from a contested early duel.

Key Contenders

Quistmer (POST 2) at 2-1 from trainer Juan R. Aguirre with Charlie Oliveros up is the morning line favorite. Aguirre's barn has been consistent, and the 2-1 price reflects legitimate confidence. Post 2 on the dirt at Mountaineer is a strong draw, allowing the horse to save ground while remaining close to the pace. Oliveros has been an effective partner for Aguirre horses at the sprint distance.

Align (POST 6) at 3-1 from trainer Jay P. Bernardini with Brandon Tapara up is the most likely winner from the Bernardini duo. The Post 6 draw is workable in an eight-horse field, and Bernardini's horses at this level have demonstrated the ability to win on the front end or just off the pace. Align (POST 6) at 3-1 with Tapara is a horse that could be involved in a prolonged speed duel that either wears down rivals or gets caught late.

Secondary Choices

Mighty Mo (POST 7) at 4-1 from trainer Juan Carlos Vazquez with Luis Negron up is the most interesting secondary bet. Negron has had multiple opportunities today, and Vazquez's horses are typically fit. Mighty Mo (POST 7) drawn to the outside of the speed horses is ideal if this horse wants to sit in a stalking position and pounce in the stretch.

Bailamos (POST 3) at 5-1 from trainer Bernardini with Luis Tapara up shares the Tapara connection with Align (POST 6), but note that Brandon Tapara has Align (POST 6) and Luis Tapara has Bailamos (POST 3), indicating Bernardini's preference of the two is Align (POST 6). Bettors should upgrade Align (POST 6) accordingly.

Versatile (POST 5) at 8-1 from trainer Shane M. Spiess with Yaranga up is at an interesting price. Spiess is a capable conditioner and Versatile (POST 5) has a good middle post in the sprint. If this horse has shown improvement on the dirt, the 8-1 represents a mild overlay.

Longshots

Ninety Two (POST 1) at 10-1 from trainer John T. Brown with Bailey Weatherly up has the rail in a dirt sprint, which can be a prime position. However, the 10-1 morning line suggests this horse has not shown sufficient form to be considered a serious contender. First Citizen (POST 4) at 20-1 from trainer Jose A. Romero with Juan Pablo Silva Jr. is a significant longshot. Gilligan (POST 8) at 15-1 from trainer Aguirre with Maikol Vilchez up is the less-fancied of the two Aguirre runners and faces a difficult task from the outside post.

Betting Strategy

Key Quistmer (POST 2) and Align (POST 6) in exactas. Use Mighty Mo (POST 7) underneath in trifectas. Single Quistmer (POST 2) in win wagers if looking for a straightforward play.

Selections

Win: Quistmer (POST 2) Place: Align (POST 6) Show: Mighty Mo (POST 7)

RACE 5 — Post (8:40) — 1760f | D | C | Clm 5000n3x | BUN | Purse $12,000

A one-mile dirt claiming route restricted to horses that have not won three races at the claiming level. Seven horses compete at the $5,000 claiming level with a $12,000 purse. Bernardini again has two entries in Lomachenko (POST 5) and More Than Five (POST 6), and Negron picks up More Than Five (POST 6) while Brandon Tapara has Lomachenko (POST 5).

Pace Analysis

In a seven-horse mile route on the dirt, pace scenarios are typically cleaner to identify. Roundball Rock (POST 3) at 2-1 from trainer Oscar Romero is the morning line favorite and may want to lead or press. Citizen (POST 1) at 4-1 has the rail and could press from the outset. With Bernardini's two entries positioned in Posts 5 and 6, the middle of the field is loaded with talent. If the early fractions are honest or fast, the closers from the inside positions could get run off their feet, while the middle-post runners from Bernardini's barn are ideally placed.

Key Contenders

Roundball Rock (POST 3) at 2-1 from trainer Oscar Romero with Charlie Oliveros up is the most well-supported horse in the field. The 2-1 morning line at a mile on the dirt for a n3x claimer suggests form that stands out at this level. Romero places horses effectively, and Oliveros riding back from the turf sprint earlier on the card will be fresh and alert. Roundball Rock (POST 3) in Post 3 at a mile is a solid draw, allowing the horse to settle near the pace without burning position early.

Lomachenko (POST 5) at 3-1 from trainer Bernardini with Brandon Tapara up is the preferred Bernardini runner based on jockey preference. The name Lomachenko evokes aggression and forward movement, and if this horse has a similar style, the middle post in a mile route is nearly ideal. Bernardini's ability to place horses in these n3x spots suggests Lomachenko (POST 5) may be ready for a peak effort.

Secondary Choices

Citizen (POST 1) at 4-1 from trainer Nancy J. Ramunno with F. Garcia up is at a price that creates value from the rail. In a seven-horse field at a mile on the dirt, the rail at Mountaineer can be a significant advantage if the horse can maintain position without being squeezed. Garcia is a capable rider who can navigate the rail well.

More Than Five (POST 6) at 4-1 from trainer Bernardini with Luis Negron up is the second Bernardini entry at co-4-1. With Negron aboard, this is a serious contender that could run past a tiring Lomachenko (POST 5) if the race sets up with a fast pace. Both Bernardini horses are on equal footing in terms of price, suggesting the trainer is genuinely unsure which will run better.

Longshots

John's Rock (POST 7) at 10-1 from trainer Nestor R. Rivera with Angel I. Diaz up is the wide outside runner in this field. At a mile on the dirt, Post 7 creates ground loss around both turns and is a significant concern. Formal Affair (POST 2) at 8-1 from trainer Anthony Farrior with Erik Barbaran is an upper-tier longshot that could surprise if Barbaran can secure a tracking position. Only Get'n Better (POST 4) at 15-1 from trainer Juan Pablo Silva with Jose A. Leon up faces a substantial task against the market horses.

Betting Strategy

Exacta key Roundball Rock (POST 3) over Lomachenko (POST 5) and Citizen (POST 1). Include More Than Five (POST 6) as a live secondary in trifectas. A small win bet on Citizen (POST 1) at 4-1 from the rail is a reasonable value play.

Selections

Win: Roundball Rock (POST 3) Place: Lomachenko (POST 5) Show: Citizen (POST 1)

RACE 6 — Post (9:05) — 990f | D | C | Clm 4000n3x | BUM | Purse $9,500

A six-furlong dirt sprint at the $4,000 claiming level, this race carries the smallest purse on the card at $9,500. Six mares or fillies compete based on the BUM designation, making this a female-only sprint. With only six horses, the field is small and straightforward, but the competition appears strong between Diamond Dancer (POST 2) and Crystal Water (POST 3).

Pace Analysis

Diamond Dancer (POST 2) at 1-1 is the even-money favorite and is expected to be forwardly placed. At 990f on the dirt, front-runners who can clear to an uncontested lead are extremely difficult to catch. Crystal Water (POST 3) at 2-1 is likely the only horse capable of pressuring Diamond Dancer (POST 2) early, and the result of that duel will determine whether any closers can get involved. Fiery Side (POST 6) at 4-1 from trainer L. Craig Cox with Charlie Oliveros up is the most logical beneficiary of a contested pace.

Key Contenders

Diamond Dancer (POST 2) at 1-1 from trainer Juan Pablo Silva with Jose A. Leon up is a dominant morning line favorite. Even money in a six-horse field suggests overwhelming form advantage. Leon is one of the busiest jockeys on today's card, and his rapport with the Silva barn gives this horse a significant advantage. Post 2 in a 990f sprint is near ideal, and if Diamond Dancer (POST 2) breaks cleanly and reaches the first turn on the lead, she could prove very difficult to catch.

Crystal Water (POST 3) at 2-1 from trainer Moises Valdez with R. Diaz up is the only horse likely to challenge Diamond Dancer (POST 2) for the front. The 2-1 morning line reflects legitimate form, and Diaz should have this horse in position to press from the outset. If Crystal Water (POST 3) can force Diamond Dancer (POST 2) into a pace that burns her out, the result could be wide open.

Secondary Choices

Fiery Side (POST 6) at 4-1 from trainer L. Craig Cox with Charlie Oliveros up is the most logical alternative. Cox is a capable trainer and Oliveros has been effective in dirt sprints today. Post 6 in a six-horse field on the 990f is not ideal but is manageable if the horse has the foot to get a stalking position early. This is the best value play in the race if the even-money horse is dismissed.

Coastalness (POST 4) at 6-1 from trainer Sara Stanoszek with Kevin Gonzalez up is the mid-priced alternative. A 6-1 in a six-horse field suggests limited form, but the price creates exotic value if included in exactas underneath the leaders.

Longshots

Athena's Ghost (POST 5) at 10-1 from trainer Jason Uelmen with Ricardo Barrios up faces a significant task against the co-favorites. Moonlight Tango (POST 1) at 15-1 from trainer Terry Crago with Kyle Gilbert is the longest shot in the field and is likely overmatched against the quality of Diamond Dancer (POST 2) and Crystal Water (POST 3).

Betting Strategy

With Diamond Dancer (POST 2) at even money, the best wagering approach is to accept the favorite while structuring exactas with Crystal Water (POST 3) and Fiery Side (POST 6) underneath. A small trifecta box of Diamond Dancer (POST 2), Crystal Water (POST 3), and Fiery Side (POST 6) at $1 is a cost-effective play.

Selections

Win: Diamond Dancer (POST 2) Place: Crystal Water (POST 3) Show: Fiery Side (POST 6)

RACE 7 — Post (9:30) — 1210f | D | CO | OClm 15000 | BUM | Purse $17,000

A 1210f optional claimer for mares and fillies at the $15,000 claiming level, carrying a $17,000 purse. This is the richest dirt race on the card and features a six-horse field with a very clear favorite in Soupergirl (POST 4) at even money. The BUM designation confirms this is a female-only event.

Pace Analysis

With only six fillies and mares entered, the pace scenario is relatively clear. Soupergirl (POST 4) from trainer Anthony Adamo at 1-1 is expected to control the pace or sit in a prime tracking position. Back On Track (POST 5) from trainer Juan Pablo Silva at 2-1 could press or stalk, creating a pace duel between the top two choices. Anhinga (POST 3) at 5-1 from the outside of the speed horses could benefit from a contested pace and make a move in the stretch.

Key Contenders

Soupergirl (POST 4) at 1-1 from trainer Anthony Adamo with Luis Negron up is the dominant morning line favorite. Adamo placing this mare at even money in an optional claimer at the $15,000 level suggests she has demonstrated form that stands clearly above this field. Negron has been active throughout the card and will be comfortable aboard a horse of this caliber. The middle post draw is fine for the sprint distance.

Back On Track (POST 5) at 2-1 from trainer Juan Pablo Silva with Jose A. Leon up is the main danger. Leon has been Silva's primary jockey today and continues the partnership here. The 2-1 morning line is well-supported, and if this mare can get comfortable in a tracking position behind Soupergirl (POST 4), she has the class to challenge in the stretch.

Secondary Choices

Anhinga (POST 3) at 5-1 from trainer Carol A. Skawinski with Erik Barbaran up is the most intriguing secondary bet. Post 3 is a good draw, and if the pace between Soupergirl (POST 4) and Back On Track (POST 5) develops into something honest, Anhinga (POST 3) at 5-1 could fly past late. Skawinski is a trainer who finds her horses ready to go, and Barbaran has been industrious today.

Goldcrest (POST 1) at 6-1 from trainer Juan Carlos Vazquez with Humberto Haldar up is the rail runner for a capable barn. Vazquez horses have been discussed throughout this card, and Goldcrest (POST 1) from the inside post could save ground and pounce in the stretch if the speed horses tire. The 6-1 creates value in exactas with Soupergirl (POST 4) or Back On Track (POST 5) on top.

Longshots

Giuliana's Dream (POST 6) at 10-1 from trainer Juan Pablo Silva with Juan Pablo Silva Jr. up is the wide outside runner and a second Silva entry. The trainer's preference appears to be Back On Track (POST 5) with Leon, as Silva Jr. gets the Giuliana's Dream (POST 6) call. Tator Made (POST 2) at 15-1 from trainer Rachel Lynn Lopez Olmeda with Elijah Greenidge up faces a substantial task against the two even-money-range horses.

Betting Strategy

Single Soupergirl (POST 4) on top in win and exactas with Back On Track (POST 5) and Anhinga (POST 3) underneath. A small exacta of Back On Track (POST 5) over Soupergirl (POST 4) as a saver is worth a few dollars.

Selections

Win: Soupergirl (POST 4) Place: Back On Track (POST 5) Show: Anhinga (POST 3)

RACE 8 — Post (9:55) — 1210f | D | C | Clm 4000n2x | BUN | Purse $9,000

The closer is a 1210f dirt sprint claiming race at $4,000 for horses that have not won two races at the claiming level. Nine horses are entered for the lowest purse of the card at $9,000, making this a basement-level sprint that often produces chaotic early pace and wide-open results. The morning line is unusually compressed, with Talkin Pharoah (POST 5) and Poppy's Pride (POST 6) and Printrack (POST 8) all bunched near the top.

Pace Analysis

Talkin Pharoah (POST 5) at 2-1 from trainer Michael E. Jones Jr. with Luis Alberto Batista up appears to be the speed or stalking horse at the top of the morning line. In a nine-horse $4,000 claiming sprint, the pace can get very hot as horses with limited accomplishments try to establish positions early. Poppy's Pride (POST 6) at 4-1 and Printrack (POST 8) at 4-1 both figure to be forwardly placed, creating the possibility of a multi-horse speed duel that could collapse in the stretch and set up a closer.

Key Contenders

Talkin Pharoah (POST 5) at 2-1 from trainer Michael E. Jones Jr. with Luis Alberto Batista up is the morning line favorite. Batista has ridden multiple winners today across the card and arrives at the finale in good form. Jones Jr. placing a horse at the top of a bottom-of-the-ladder sprint suggests he has spotted a competitive edge. Post 5 is workable in a nine-horse field.

Poppy's Pride (POST 6) at 4-1 from trainer Robert S. Scallan with Maikol Vilchez up is well-positioned. Scallan has two runners in this finale with Cost Basis (POST 7) also entered, suggesting a tactical ploy where one horse pressures the pace while the other saves energy. Poppy's Pride (POST 6) at 4-1 is likely Scallan's preferred runner based on the jockey assignments.

Printrack (POST 8) at 4-1 from trainer Marco Ccamaque with D.L. Parker up is co-second choice and draws wide in the field. Parker has had multiple mounts today and should have a good feel for the track surface at this point in the program. The 4-1 at Post 8 requires the horse to use energy getting into position early.

Secondary Choices

Enjoy Baseball (POST 4) at 7-1 from trainer Nancy J. Ramunno with F. Garcia up is at a workable price from a good mid-field post. Ramunno had Citizen (POST 1) in Race 5, and if that horse ran well, it could signal the barn is firing today. Shriner (POST 9) at 6-1 from trainer Genevieve Londono with Augustin Bracho up is the widest post in a nine-horse sprint but at 6-1 offers reasonable value if the pace collapses in front.

Longshots

Cugine (POST 3) at 10-1 from trainer Jose A. Romero with Ricardo Barrios up is a mid-field longshot. The inner third of the post positions at 990 to 1210f on the Mountaineer dirt are not unfavorable, and at 10-1 there is some exotic value here. Cold Plunge (POST 1) at 15-1 from trainer John T. Brown with Kyle Gilbert up has the rail in a nine-horse sprint. At 15-1, this horse needs a perfect trip. Mean Tweets (POST 2) at 12-1 from trainer Randy Bayley with Alejandro Gomez up is a double-digit longshot that offers exotic speculation value. Cost Basis (POST 7) at 20-1 from trainer Scallan with Bailey Weatherly up is the less-preferred Scallan entry and at 20-1 is best avoided in win wagering.

Betting Strategy

Use Talkin Pharoah (POST 5), Poppy's Pride (POST 6), and Printrack (POST 8) in a trifecta box for the finale. Add Shriner (POST 9) as a fourth for partial coverage. A small exacta box of the top three is the core wager.

Selections

Win: Talkin Pharoah (POST 5) Place: Poppy's Pride (POST 6) Show: Printrack (POST 8)

Jockey Notes and Insights

Luis Negron is the busiest jockey on today's card, with mounts in Races 1, 3, 5, 6, and 7. The volume of quality mounts he carries speaks to the confidence trainers have in his abilities at this meet. Negron picks up Beachwalker (POST 5) for Vazquez in Race 1, Uncle William (POST 11) for Vazquez in Race 3, More Than Five (POST 6) for Bernardini in Race 5, and Soupergirl (POST 4) in Race 7. His Race 7 mount on the even-money favorite is his most important call of the evening.

Jose A. Leon is equally busy and carries key mounts for the Silva barn in Races 6 and 7, which are the two female-only races. Leon has been the go-to rider for Juan Pablo Silva throughout the card, and his partnership with Diamond Dancer (POST 2) in Race 6 and Back On Track (POST 5) in Race 7 makes him worth tracking as a powerful barn-jockey team.

Norbert Arroyo Jr. has the top mounts in Races 1 and 2, including My Two Aunt Joans (POST 6) at 2-1 in Race 1 and Legal Titan (POST 1) at 7-1 in Race 2. Arroyo is an accomplished rider whose presence on the 2-1 morning line favorite in the opening race suggests the stable is confident in the horse's readiness.

Luis Alberto Batista rides Nate The Great (POST 13) in Race 2 and Talkin Pharoah (POST 5) in Race 8, two of the short-priced horses on the card. Batista coming to the finale with energy and a feel for today's track surface is a positive angle for Talkin Pharoah (POST 5).

Alexander Chavez picks up Italian Symphony (POST 2) in Race 2 and Small Field (POST 5) in Race 3 for trainer Shane Meyers. If Meyers's horses are running well, the Chavez double is worth monitoring for Pick 3 and Pick 4 wagering.

D.L. Parker has mounts throughout the card including Wiley Willard (POST 9) in Race 1, Cool Couple (POST 8) in Race 3, Printrack (POST 8) in Race 8. Parker's late-card mount on Printrack (POST 8) for trainer Ccamaque at 4-1 in the finale deserves attention.

Bailey Weatherly has multiple mounts including Fabelman (POST 7) in Race 1, If I Were You (POST 10) in Race 2, Ninety Two (POST 1) in Race 4, and Cost Basis (POST 7) in Race 8. Weatherly is a journeyman-level rider at this circuit, and the quality of mounts today skews toward the deeper prices.

Trainer Notes and Insights

Jay P. Bernardini is the dominant trainer presence on today's card with horses in nearly every race. His most important horses today are Align (POST 6) in Race 4 at 3-1, Lomachenko (POST 5) in Race 5 at 3-1, and the Bernardini entries in Races 1, 2, and 3. Bernardini's ability to place horses at this meet is well established. When he splits the jockey duties between the Tapara brothers on the same race, as he does in Race 5, the horse with the more senior jockey typically represents his top preference.

Juan Carlos Vazquez is the second most active trainer with entries in Races 1, 2, 3, 5, and 7. Vazquez saddles multiple entrants in Races 1 and 2, and his stable is consistently fit and ready to run. The coupling of Beachwalker (POST 5) and Train And Trust (POST 8) in Race 1 could affect exotic pool distributions. Goldcrest (POST 1) in Race 7 represents a single Vazquez entry at 6-1 with upside.

Juan Pablo Silva and his son Juan Pablo Silva Jr. operate as a connected barn and jockey team at Mountaineer. The elder Silva trains and the junior rides, providing a tight feedback loop on horse conditions. Diamond Dancer (POST 2) in Race 6 and Back On Track (POST 5) in Race 7 are their most important runners today. The Silva barn's performance in the two female-only sprint races will be the defining measure of their day.

Shane Meyers has two entries through Italian Symphony (POST 2) in Race 2 and Small Field (POST 5) in Race 3, both with Chavez up. This double represents strong value in the Pick 3 that bridges Races 2 and 3 if both fire on the same evening.

Juan R. Aguirre saddles Bring Me A Check (POST 2) in Race 3 and Quistmer (POST 2) in Race 4, two co-favorites with short morning line prices. An Aguirre double through Races 3 and 4 would pay well in the Pick 3 given the low multiplier of two relatively short-priced horses combined.

Nancy J. Ramunno trains Citizen (POST 1) in Race 5 and Enjoy Baseball (POST 4) in Race 8. While neither is at the top of the morning line, a trainer with multiple entries at reasonable prices across the card can offer value in multi-race sequences.

Best Wagering Strategies and Value Plays

Today's eight-race card at Mountaineer Park offers a range of opportunities in both straight wagering and exotic structures. The following strategies identify the highest-value plays based on pace analysis, connections, and morning line assessments.

Pick 3, Races 1-2-3: My Two Aunt Joans (POST 6) with Jujubee (POST 6) or Italian Symphony (POST 2) with Bring Me A Check (POST 2) represents the core Pick 3 ticket. Adding Small Field (POST 5) in Race 3 as an alternate costs modestly and provides insurance. This three-leg sequence is all on the turf and rewards those who analyze turf-specific form carefully.

Pick 3, Races 6-7-8: The back-end Pick 3 is a strong sequence for those focused on the dirt races. Use Diamond Dancer (POST 2) single in Race 6, Soupergirl (POST 4) as the likely single in Race 7, and spread in Race 8 with Talkin Pharoah (POST 5), Poppy's Pride (POST 6), and Printrack (POST 8). A $1 Pick 3 ticket of $1 x $1 x $3 costs $3 and could return meaningfully if either Poppy's Pride (POST 6) or Printrack (POST 8) hits in the finale at 4-1.

Pick 4, Races 4-5-6-7: Use Quistmer (POST 2) and Align (POST 6) in Race 4, Roundball Rock (POST 3) and Lomachenko (POST 5) in Race 5, Diamond Dancer (POST 2) single in Race 6, and Soupergirl (POST 4) and Back On Track (POST 5) in Race 7. A 2x2x1x2 Pick 4 costs $4 at $1 minimum and focuses on the most confident selections.

Value plays: Jujubee (POST 6) at 3-1 in Race 2 represents the best single-race value play given the favorable post, capable trainer, and clear positioning advantage over the 2-1 morning line shots who drew poorly. Citizen (POST 1) at 4-1 in Race 5 from the rail in a seven-horse mile on the dirt is underestimated. Goldcrest (POST 1) at 6-1 in Race 7 from the Vazquez barn offers live value in the exacta underneath Soupergirl (POST 4) and Back On Track (POST 5).

Longshot of the day: Button Box (POST 9) at 7-1 in Race 3 is the best-priced alternative in a turf sprint where the pace could get contested and a closer could sweep. A small win bet and inclusion in trifectas underneath the favorites is recommended.

Fade of the day: Archimedes (POST 14) at 2-1 in Race 2 faces the most compromised draw on the entire card in a 14-horse turf field. Despite the morning line support, Post 14 in a one-mile turf route at Mountaineer is a death sentence for any horse that cannot overcome significant ground loss. Bettors should strongly consider using the morning line price as a signal to load up against this horse in exactas and trifectas at Mountaineer's Tuesday evening card.
