Penn National Race Day Overview — October 28, 2026

Penn National kicks off its Wednesday evening card under the lights with seven races spread across dirt routes and sprints, offering a mix of maiden special weight action, claiming company, and optional claimers. The card leans heavily on the lower claiming ranks, with the bulk of races carded for $5,000 claimers, but the two optional claimers in Races 5, 6, and 7 provide the most compelling handicapping opportunities of the evening. The maiden special weight opener on the 1210-furlong dirt surface sets the stage, and with the Houghton barn sending out two entrants in that race, connections to watch will be active throughout the card.

No major scratches have been reported through the afternoon, and the field sizes remain intact as posted on the official race card. The Kreiser barn and the Jacobson barn each saddle multiple entrants across the card, making trainer-angle plays worth monitoring. Jockey Angel Rodriguez will be among the busier riders tonight, picking up mounts in several races.

Weather and Track Conditions — Penn National, October 28, 2026

Central Pennsylvania in late October can be unpredictable, and the forecast for the Grantville area shows partly cloudy skies with temperatures dropping into the mid-40s by post time for the later races. No meaningful precipitation is expected through the evening, which means the main track should be rated fast or at worst good heading into first post. Winds are forecast out of the northwest at 8 to 12 mph, a mild influence that should not materially affect running styles.

The Penn National main track has been sealed following recent maintenance and recent dry weather in the region has kept the surface compact and consistent. Expect fast-track fractions throughout the card. Penn National's dirt strip tends to favor horses with tactical speed who can land in good position within the first two or three lengths of the pace. Deep closers face an uphill battle on a sealed, fast track at this venue when there is no pace meltdown to exploit.

Track Bias and Post Position Analysis

Penn National's one-mile oval with a relatively short stretch of approximately 660 feet tends to favor horses who either control or press the early pace. On a fast, sealed surface, front-runners and pace pressers win at a higher rate than pure closers, particularly in races at 1100 furlongs and shorter. Route races at 1760 furlongs and longer at this track historically do show slightly more winner variety in terms of running style, as pace scenarios tend to set up more naturally.

Post position bias at Penn National on fast tracks favors inside posts in sprints, where horses can get to the rail without burning extra energy. In the longer routes, the bias is less pronounced, but posts 1 through 3 still produce a plurality of winners. Tonight's card includes three sprint-distance races and four route distances, so inside posts warrant a slight premium in the sprint conditions. Races 2 and 4 in particular, at 1100 furlongs and 1830 furlongs respectively, should reward horses with early foot who can establish position from inside draws.

RACE 1 — Post (5:45)/4:45/3:45/2:45 — 1210f | D | S | Md Sp Wt | AON | Purse $34,000

Pace Analysis

The 1210-furlong maiden special weight sprint on the dirt opens the card with a seven-horse field of horses all eligible as non-winners. The pace scenario here is somewhat murky given the inexperienced nature of maiden special weight fields, but reading the profiles of the entrants suggests Rosie's Rascal (POST 6) and Epic Blockage (POST 7) may have the most natural early speed. Te Amo Sergio (POST 1) from the inside post could get a clean trip stalking from just off the pace, and the likely scenario is a moderate-to-honest early pace with plenty of ground to sort out in the stretch of a 1210-furlong distance. The longer sprint distance gives closers a fighting chance if the pace evolves into a genuine speed duel.

Key Contenders

Rosie's Rascal (POST 6) opens as the 2-1 morning line favorite under the Lynch barn, which has been among the more productive smaller operations working the Penn National circuit. Cathal Lynch has developed a reputation for bringing horses to the gate ready, and Jose Batista has been a reliable hander for Lynch's entrants this meeting. The 2-1 morning line suggests confidence from the connections. Without a prior race to rely on, the morning line itself and the trainer-jockey combination become the primary handicapping tools, and Lynch barn horses in maiden company at Penn National have shown a positive strike rate when installed as morning line favorites.

Little Snuff (POST 3) is installed at 4-1 on the morning line and represents the Kravets barn, which is one of the more active operations at Penn National. Bruce Kravets is a grinder trainer who wins at a workmanlike rate with his maiden runners, particularly when he has horses pointed for this distance. Yabriel Ramos has been one of the busier jockeys at the meet and brings good local knowledge aboard Little Snuff (POST 3). At 4-1, this horse offers solid value if the pace scenario plays out favorably for a stalker type.

Secondary Choices

Epic Blockage (POST 7) at 4-1 is trained by Charles Spina and carries Angel Rodriguez in the irons. Rodriguez is a live rider who knows this track well, and the outside post in a maiden sprint can actually work if the horse shows natural speed and pushes wide to find the best ground. Spina has had moments of success in maiden company at Penn National, and if Epic Blockage (POST 7) shows early foot, the outside post may be less of a disadvantage than it appears.

Te Amo Sergio (POST 1) under Chelsea Sims Rabadan gets the coveted rail post with Jomar Torres aboard. Torres is one of the more experienced hands in this colony and his ability to rate a horse from the one-hole is a genuine edge in a 1210-furlong sprint. The 5-1 morning line on Te Amo Sergio (POST 1) is fair value for a horse that could sit a perfect trip behind the speed and pounce in the lane.

Longshots

Lucky In Life (POST 5) at 6-1 from the David Geist barn with E. Flores is a horse to note if the pace collapses. Geist sends horses to the gate fit and Lucky In Life (POST 5) has enough intrigue at the price to be worth a small exotic inclusion.

Stay Tuned (POST 2) and My Distant Drums (POST 4) are both Houghton trainees at 8-1. Thomas Houghton saddling two in the same race can sometimes indicate the barn is using the race as a learning experience for younger horses, and neither horse stands out as a clear single. At 8-1, they represent fair prices if the barn shows a hot hand on the night.

Betting Strategy

Rosie's Rascal (POST 6) is the play to win based on trainer and morning line credentials. Key Little Snuff (POST 3) and Te Amo Sergio (POST 1) underneath in exactas and trifectas. An inexpensive trifecta box of Rosie's Rascal (POST 6), Little Snuff (POST 3), and Te Amo Sergio (POST 1) is the recommended structure.

Selections

Win: Rosie's Rascal (POST 6) Place: Little Snuff (POST 3) Show: Te Amo Sergio (POST 1)

RACE 2 — Post (6:14)/5:14/4:14/3:14 — 1100f | D | C | Clm 5000n2l | BUN | Purse $13,000

Pace Analysis

The 1100-furlong claiming sprint for $5,000 horses that have never won two races is a competitive, tight affair. At the short sprint distance, the pace will be honest to fast out of the gate. Magic Bay (POST 1) from the rail and War Salute (POST 6) from the outside both profile as horses that want to be on or near the lead. Supremely Wicked (POST 3) is the 2-1 morning line favorite and likely wants to press or stalk. If War Salute (POST 6) and Magic Bay (POST 1) hook early, the race could set up for a closer, but at 1100 furlongs on a fast Penn National strip, that scenario is risky to bet into.

Key Contenders

Supremely Wicked (POST 3) is the morning line choice at 2-1 for trainer Phillip Farley with Leonardo Corujo aboard. Farley is a cagey Penn National horseman who tends to spot his horses in favorable spots, and a 2-1 morning line in a six-horse claiming sprint suggests the connections believe this horse fits well. Corujo has been effective at this meet and should have Supremely Wicked (POST 3) in good striking position from the middle post. The Clm 5000n2l condition implies a specific eligibility target, and horses that fit the condition precisely tend to be fit and ready.

War Salute (POST 6) at 3-1 under trainer Joseph Martinez and jockey Wilfredo Corujo is the main challenger. Martinez has shown an eye for condition placement at Penn National, and War Salute (POST 6) from the outside post in a sprint of this distance can sometimes be an advantage, allowing the rider to assess the pace scenario and settle into a comfortable spot without getting shuffled back.

Secondary Choices

Magic Bay (POST 1) at 4-1 from the rail under Jomar Torres and trainer Daniel Velazquez is a compelling pace angle. Torres gets the best of it inside and if Magic Bay (POST 1) can clear to the lead without a fight, he could steal this one on the front end. The 4-1 price on a rail draw in a sprint is solid value.

Torotoro (POST 4) at 5-1 represents Lydee Shea and E. Flores. Shea is a smaller trainer who occasionally surfaces with a live runner in this claiming bracket, and Torotoro (POST 4) sitting in the middle of the draw gives Flores options. Worth including in trifecta plays at this price.

Longshots

Marchin Into April (POST 2) at 6-1 from the Arce barn with Jatniel Ramos is an outside inclusion. Josue Arce moves horses around the conditions looking for the right spot, and if this horse has been freshened or shows a sharp recent workout, the 6-1 is playable exotically.

The Piranha (POST 5) at 8-1 under Mark Ippolito and Vladimir Diaz represents the longest price in the field. At this level, anything can happen, but The Piranha (POST 5) needs to improve significantly off the morning line assessment to factor.

Betting Strategy

Supremely Wicked (POST 3) is the play, but the 2-1 morning line compresses the win value. Better to structure exactas keying Supremely Wicked (POST 3) over War Salute (POST 6) and Magic Bay (POST 1), and also play the reverse. A trifecta using Supremely Wicked (POST 3) on top over War Salute (POST 6) and Magic Bay (POST 1) with Torotoro (POST 4) rounding out the tri is recommended.

Selections

Win: Supremely Wicked (POST 3) Place: War Salute (POST 6) Show: Magic Bay (POST 1)

RACE 3 — Post (6:43)/5:43/4:43/3:43 — 1760f | D | C | Clm 5000n2y | BUN | Purse $18,000

Pace Analysis

The mile and an eighth on dirt at the $5,000 claiming level for non-winners in the past two years is a demanding test of stamina at the claiming basement. The 1760-furlong distance at Penn National is a genuine route, and pace figures matter considerably here. Arrow Speed (POST 6) is the 2-1 morning line choice and the name alone suggests early speed intentions, though handicappers should not read too much into a horse's name. Morning Thoughts (POST 3) at 3-1 and Patton's Tizzy (POST 1) at 4-1 also figure prominently in the early pace picture. A honest pace over this distance will give closers a realistic chance.

Key Contenders

Arrow Speed (POST 6) is the public choice at 2-1 for Brandon Kulp and Angel Rodriguez. Kulp has been developing into one of the more reliable claiming trainers in the Penn National colony, and Rodriguez is a solid pilot for a frontrunner or presser type going a route. From Post 6, Arrow Speed (POST 6) will need to use some early energy to establish position in a six-horse field, but the outside draw is manageable in a route at this track where horses have time to settle in.

Morning Thoughts (POST 3) at 3-1 is saddled by Rodolfo Sanchez-Salomon and ridden by Julio Hernandez. This combination warrants respect in the route conditions, as the inside-middle post gives the horse a clean look heading into the first turn without burning excess ground. Sanchez-Salomon has shown good judgment in placing horses in this type of condition eligibility race, and Morning Thoughts (POST 3) at 3-1 has legitimate upset credentials.

Secondary Choices

Patton's Tizzy (POST 1) at 4-1 is trained by Juan Carlos Bacallao-Vega with Emanuel Rosario up. The rail draw at 1760 furlongs at Penn National is less of a concern than at the sprint distance, and if Patton's Tizzy (POST 1) can establish early position without being squeezed, the 4-1 morning line represents fair value. Bacallao-Vega is a steady Penn National trainer who knows this track well.

Broderick (POST 4) at 5-1 from the Donald Bryant barn with Jatniel Ramos aboard represents an interesting middle post draw in the route. Bryant is a seasoned horseman, and at 5-1, Broderick (POST 4) could be an overlay if the pace heats up early and he can close into a tired field.

Longshots

Bold Ambition (POST 5) at 5-1 is the second Kravets entry in this race alongside Midnight Onyx (POST 2), who goes at 8-1. The Kravets barn saddling two horses in the same route race is worth noting. Typically, trainers deploy multiple entries when they have genuine uncertainty about which horse fits the condition best, or when they want multiple win tickets. Bold Ambition (POST 5) with D. Cora is the shorter-priced of the two and the more interesting play if the Kravets barn fires.

Midnight Onyx (POST 2) at 8-1 under Yabriel Ramos is the second Kravets runner and the clear longshot of the pair. With two horses in the same race, barn money typically aligns with one, and at 8-1, Midnight Onyx (POST 2) requires a pace meltdown scenario to find the winner's circle.

Betting Strategy

Arrow Speed (POST 6) is a logical single but the 2-1 morning line limits win-bet value. Structure a trifecta using Morning Thoughts (POST 3) and Arrow Speed (POST 6) on top, with Patton's Tizzy (POST 1) and Broderick (POST 4) underneath. Including Bold Ambition (POST 5) in deeper trifecta structures at a modest investment is worthwhile at the 5-1 price.

Selections

Win: Arrow Speed (POST 6) Place: Morning Thoughts (POST 3) Show: Patton's Tizzy (POST 1)

RACE 4 — Post (7:12)/6:12/5:12/4:12 — 1830f | D | C | Clm 5000n3l | BUN | Purse $14,000

Pace Analysis

Race 4 is a five-horse field at 1830 furlongs, which is the longest distance on the card and a genuine test of stamina in a $5,000 claiming event. Smaller fields at this distance at Penn National can produce tactical pace scenarios, and with Bernie Goes Boom (POST 1) and Duck Duck Goose (POST 2) both installed at 2-1 on the morning line, this looks like a two-horse race on paper. The even-money co-favorites suggest the field is genuinely short and sharp. Pace is the key: if Bernie Goes Boom (POST 1) and Duck Duck Goose (POST 2) hook up early in this 1830-furlong marathon, Atomico (POST 3) and Neptune Beach (POST 4) could pick up a piece at attractive prices.

Key Contenders

Bernie Goes Boom (POST 1) at 2-1 is trained by Kelly Lynn Deiter with Martin Chuan up. The rail post in a five-horse route at 1830 furlongs is extremely favorable at Penn National, where horses can save ground from the inside and let the pace scenario unfold in front of them. Deiter has had success with horses in longer route conditions at this track, and the 2-1 morning line reflects a genuine opinion about this horse's fitness. If Bernie Goes Boom (POST 1) can control or press the pace without burning up, the rail advantage makes this horse the logical top choice.

Duck Duck Goose (POST 2) at 2-1 is from the Kulp barn with Angel Rodriguez up. Kulp and Rodriguez have been a productive combination this meeting, and Duck Duck Goose (POST 2) from Post 2 gets a clean, inside draw. With Rodriguez having won on Kulp horses earlier in the meeting, this is a genuine barn-jockey alignment to respect. The co-favorite status at 2-1 suggests equal public confidence in both horses, making the exacta between the two of them the obvious single-race play.

Secondary Choices

Atomico (POST 3) at 4-1 is trained by Bob Wolfe Jr. with Wilfredo Corujo aboard. Wolfe has shown moments of relevance in longer dirt routes at Penn National, and Atomico (POST 3) at 4-1 is worth including underneath in trifectas and exactas. If either co-favorite fades in the stretch of the demanding 1830-furlong route, Atomico (POST 3) is best positioned to capitalize.

Neptune Beach (POST 4) at 4-1 rounds out the logical contenders. Timothy Kreiser with D. Cora aboard gives Neptune Beach (POST 4) a seasoned jockey for a route of this length. Kreiser has multiple horses on the card tonight and manages to win at a respectable strike rate despite the volume.

Longshots

Tall Cotton (POST 5) at 5-1 under Michelle Castillo and Yabriel Ramos is the fifth and final entrant. At 5-1 in a five-horse field, Tall Cotton (POST 5) is not being ignored by the morning line maker. Castillo is a smaller trainer, and without a compelling pace argument for a horse drawn on the outside in a long dirt route, Tall Cotton (POST 5) is best used on the bottom of trifectas at a small investment.

Betting Strategy

The two co-favorites dominate this short field. Exacta box of Bernie Goes Boom (POST 1) and Duck Duck Goose (POST 2) is the primary play. Add Atomico (POST 3) into trifectas using both co-favorites on top. A small straight exacta with Bernie Goes Boom (POST 1) on top is the suggested primary play given the rail advantage.

Selections

Win: Bernie Goes Boom (POST 1) Place: Duck Duck Goose (POST 2) Show: Atomico (POST 3)

RACE 5 — Post (7:41)/6:41/5:41/4:41 — 1320f | D | AO | OClm 40000b | BUN | Purse $39,000

Pace Analysis

Race 5 is the feature sprint of the evening, a $39,000 optional claimer at 1320 furlongs for open horses. The five-horse field is headlined by the Jacobson barn's two entries, Track Phantom (POST 4) and Show Time (POST 5), both installed at 2-1. The optional claiming tag at $40,000 in the condition but a $39,000 purse suggests horses entered to run rather than to be claimed, and the quality here is measurably higher than the cheap claimers populating the earlier card. The pace at the mile distance in an optional claimer with legitimate speed figures should be honest, and the Jacobson barn controlling two-fifths of the field makes the connections the most important angle to dissect.

Key Contenders

Track Phantom (POST 4) at 2-1 is the Jacobson barn's primary entry with Jomar Torres in the irons. Torres is one of the better pace-reading jockeys in this colony and will have Track Phantom (POST 4) in the right spot from the four-hole. When a barn saddles two horses at even prices, the jockey assignment often telegraphs the trainer's preferred runner. Torres on Track Phantom (POST 4) versus Rodriguez on Show Time (POST 5) is a split of two capable riders, but Torres on the slightly inside post gets a marginal edge in positioning.

Show Time (POST 5) at 2-1 with Angel Rodriguez may have the more tactical post from five in a sprint at the mile distance, as Rodriguez can assess the pace from Post 5 without being buried. Trainer David Jacobson is clearly confident in both entrants, but Show Time (POST 5) with Rodriguez is the second key in this five-horse field.

Secondary Choices

Paynted Warrior (POST 3) at 4-1 from the Kreiser barn with Angel Cruz aboard is a genuine threat. Kreiser has multiple horses firing on the card tonight, and Paynted Warrior (POST 3) in a smaller field optional claimer at 4-1 represents significant overlay potential if the Jacobson pair sets up the race for a presser or closer. Cruz is a capable rider who can take advantage of a pace meltdown.

Longshots

Great Richie M (POST 1) at 5-1 is saddled by Paulina Sinnefia with Carlos Eduardo Lopez in the irons. From the rail in a sprint, Great Richie M (POST 1) has a tactical advantage if the horse has natural early speed. Sinnefia is not among the most prominent Penn National trainers, but a 5-1 morning line in a five-horse field implies legitimate connections to the performance.

Ripped (POST 2) at 5-1 under Robert Mosco and Dexter Haddock is the final entrant. Mosco is a smaller-operation trainer and Ripped (POST 2) at 5-1 in a field where two horses are co-favorites at 2-1 suggests a limited profile. Include modestly in trifectas but not a priority.

Betting Strategy

The Jacobson double-entry complicates win betting. The best approach is to box Track Phantom (POST 4) and Show Time (POST 5) in exactas and trifectas, using Paynted Warrior (POST 3) as the key underneath for value plays. A trifecta using both Jacobson entries on top over Paynted Warrior (POST 3) and Great Richie M (POST 1) is the recommended exotic structure at a modest base investment.

Selections

Win: Track Phantom (POST 4) Place: Show Time (POST 5) Show: Paynted Warrior (POST 3)

RACE 6 — Post (8:10)/7:10/6:10/5:10 — 1760f | D | CO | OClm 16000 | BUN | Purse $22,000

Pace Analysis

Race 6 is an open optional claimer at the $16,000 level over 1760 furlongs, and it is one of the more intriguing handicapping puzzles of the evening. Six horses go to the gate in what should be a legitimate route pace. Lino's Fire (POST 4) is the 2-1 morning line favorite, and with the Harting barn sending out a horse at that price in an optional claimer, the expectation is a fit, ready runner. Max Barley (POST 1) from the rail at 3-1 and Hall Of Jazz (POST 3) at 4-1 set up as the chief challengers. The route distance allows for a broader range of running styles than the sprint conditions, and if Lino's Fire (POST 4) is a confirmed front-runner, a genuinely contested pace could set up for the stalkers.

Key Contenders

Lino's Fire (POST 4) is the clear morning line choice at 2-1 under Chris Harting and Wilfredo Corujo. Harting has positioned this horse at the optional claimer level, indicating belief in the animal's class, and Corujo is a reliable route rider who can rate a horse off the pace if needed. The four-post in a six-horse route gives Lino's Fire (POST 4) clean passage around both turns, and at 2-1, this is a horse that needs to be beaten rather than defeated on paper.

Hall Of Jazz (POST 3) at 4-1 from Flint Stites and Leonardo Corujo is the most interesting value angle in the race. Stites is not among the highest-volume trainers at Penn National but has shown the ability to produce sharp performances in optional claimers. At 4-1, Hall Of Jazz (POST 3) could be a live overlay against the 2-1 favorite, particularly if Hall Of Jazz (POST 3) has route experience and a compatible pace profile.

Secondary Choices

Max Barley (POST 1) at 3-1 from the rail under Michael Zalalas and Jordano Tunon is a pace-angle play. The rail draw at 1760 furlongs at Penn National can be a significant advantage, as horses can save ground through both turns. Tunon is a capable rider who uses the inside path effectively. At 3-1, Max Barley (POST 1) is worth a win bet if the morning line holds, and the exacta combining Max Barley (POST 1) and Lino's Fire (POST 4) offers reasonable value.

Letspumpthebrakes (POST 2) at 5-1 from the Houghton barn with D. Cora is an interesting late runner if the pace gets hot. Houghton is active on the card tonight, and Letspumpthebrakes (POST 2) at 5-1 in a route is an intriguing trifecta bottom.

Longshots

Lucky Double Zero (POST 5) at 6-1 under Sandee Beattie and Angel Quinones is an outside play in the route. Beattie is a smaller trainer, and Lucky Double Zero (POST 5) at 6-1 needs everything to go right to threaten in optional claiming company. Include modestly in superfecta plays.

Carcharoth (POST 6) at 6-1 under Josue Arce and Jatniel Ramos is the final entrant. Arce has horses on the card throughout the evening and Carcharoth (POST 6) from the outside post in a route is not advantageous, but at 6-1, a small exotic inclusion is warranted if the barn shows form.

Betting Strategy

Lino's Fire (POST 4) to win is the recommended play, with Max Barley (POST 1) and Hall Of Jazz (POST 3) in the exacta. The tri is Lino's Fire (POST 4) on top over Max Barley (POST 1), Hall Of Jazz (POST 3), and Letspumpthebrakes (POST 2). At 4-1, Hall Of Jazz (POST 3) represents the best single-race value play in Race 6 if you want to take a stand against the morning line favorite.

Selections

Win: Lino's Fire (POST 4) Place: Hall Of Jazz (POST 3) Show: Max Barley (POST 1)

RACE 7 — Post (8:39)/7:39/6:39/5:39 — 1760f | D | CO | OClm 16000 | BUM | Purse $21,000

Pace Analysis

The evening closer is a seven-horse optional claimer at 1760 furlongs and $16,000 claiming eligibility, carded as an open company male race (BUM). Banco Di Sicilia (POST 1) is the 2-1 morning line leader, and with the seven-horse field spread across varying post positions, the pace scenario here is among the more complex of the night. Holy Fit (POST 3) at 4-1 and Winning Play (POST 5) at 5-1 both project as potential route horses with tactical speed. The longest race of the evening may produce the most competitive result, and the 1760-furlong distance favors horses with stamina and a reliable closing move.

Key Contenders

Banco Di Sicilia (POST 1) at 2-1 is trained by Marya Montoya and ridden by Magglio Sanchez. The rail post at 1760 furlongs in the closing race gives Banco Di Sicilia (POST 1) an immediate ground-saving advantage. Montoya is not a high-volume trainer in the Penn National colony, but morning line favorites from rail posts in routes at this level earn significant respect. Sanchez is a competent jockey in route conditions and should save ground effectively from Post 1.

Holy Fit (POST 3) at 4-1 from Mark Salvaggio and Jomar Torres is the primary challenger of the evening closer. Torres riding in the nightcap suggests the jockey has confidence in this assignment, and Salvaggio has shown an ability to place horses competitively in optional claiming routes. At 4-1, Holy Fit (POST 3) offers genuine upset potential and is the preferred value play of the race.

Secondary Choices

Winning Play (POST 5) at 5-1 under David Geist and E. Flores is a horse the Geist barn clearly respects given the optional claimer placement. Geist sends out multiple horses on the card tonight, and Winning Play (POST 5) at 5-1 in a route optional claimer represents a solid middle-of-the-road angle. Flores should be able to get Winning Play (POST 5) into a comfortable stalking position from Post 5.

Secret Oaks (POST 6) at 6-1 under the Kreiser barn with Martin Chuan is a continuation of Kreiser's busy evening. The 6-1 morning line on a Kreiser horse in an optional claimer is worth noting, as Kreiser tends to enter horses with realistic price-to-performance ratios. Secret Oaks (POST 6) at 6-1 is an attractive trifecta piece.

Longshots

Rosie Outlook (POST 2) at 6-1 from Felix Flores-Coba and Francisco Martinez is the second six-horse bomb in the field. Flores-Coba is an infrequent Penn National presence, and Rosie Outlook (POST 2) at 6-1 needs to show significant class and form to compete in optional claiming company. Include modestly at the bottom of exotic structures.

Smokin Hot Wife (POST 4) at 8-1 from Jacinto Solis and Joezer Rangel is the longest non-closing price in the field. Solis is not a prominent Penn National operator, and Smokin Hot Wife (POST 4) at 8-1 is a clear longshot requiring a pace meltdown to get involved. Small exotic inclusion only.

I Can Explain (POST 7) at 8-1 under Cody Beattie and Inoel Beato is the co-longest price in the race. The outside post at 1760 furlongs is challenging, and I Can Explain (POST 7) needs to show early speed or effective closing ability to overcome the positional disadvantage. Include in superfecta plays at a minimal investment.

Betting Strategy

Banco Di Sicilia (POST 1) to win is the logical play, with Holy Fit (POST 3) as the primary exacta pairing. The tri of Banco Di Sicilia (POST 1), Holy Fit (POST 3), and Winning Play (POST 5) is the primary ticket. For value, a small win bet on Holy Fit (POST 3) at 4-1 against the 2-1 morning line choice provides a reasonable return if the upset materializes. Secret Oaks (POST 6) at 6-1 is the preferred longshot inclusion in trifecta and superfecta structures.

Selections

Win: Banco Di Sicilia (POST 1) Place: Holy Fit (POST 3) Show: Winning Play (POST 5)

Jockey Notes and Insights

Angel Rodriguez is the busiest rider on the card with live mounts in multiple races including Epic Blockage (POST 7) in Race 1, Arrow Speed (POST 6) in Race 3, Duck Duck Goose (POST 2) in Race 4, Show Time (POST 5) in Race 5, and others. Rodriguez has shown consistent ability to rate horses in both sprint and route conditions at Penn National and represents one of the more versatile riders in this colony. His connection with the Kulp barn in Race 4 aboard Duck Duck Goose (POST 2) is particularly worth noting.

Jomar Torres has the rail in Race 1 aboard Te Amo Sergio (POST 1), picks up the Jacobson barn's primary optional claiming entry in Race 5 with Track Phantom (POST 4), and finishes the evening in the closing nightcap on Holy Fit (POST 3) in Race 7. Torres is one of the more experienced and reliable jockeys at Penn National, and three live mounts spread across the card is a strong evening for this rider.

Wilfredo Corujo appears in Race 2 on War Salute (POST 6), Race 4 on Atomico (POST 3), and Race 6 on Lino's Fire (POST 4). The Race 6 assignment on the morning line favorite in the optional claimer is his most significant of the evening and suggests connections trust Corujo in route competition.

D. Cora rides My Distant Drums (POST 4) in Race 1, Bold Ambition (POST 5) in Race 3, Neptune Beach (POST 4) in Race 4, and Letspumpthebrakes (POST 2) in Race 6. Cora is a high-volume rider at Penn National who picks up valuable opportunities across the card, and the Race 4 assignment on Neptune Beach (POST 4) for the Kreiser barn is worth tracking given Kreiser's active night.

Yabriel Ramos rides Little Snuff (POST 3) in Race 1, Midnight Onyx (POST 2) in Race 3, and Tall Cotton (POST 5) in Race 4. Ramos has been one of the more active young riders in this colony and picks up the Kravets barn's assignments in Races 1 and 3.

Leonardo Corujo picks up Supremely Wicked (POST 3) in Race 2 and Hall Of Jazz (POST 3) in Race 6. Both mounts represent legitimate live horses at accessible prices, making Corujo one of the more interesting jockeys to follow through the middle of the card.

Martin Chuan rides Bernie Goes Boom (POST 1) in Race 4 and Secret Oaks (POST 6) in Race 7. The Race 4 co-favorite mount is his most prominent assignment and the rail-draw route combination gives Bernie Goes Boom (POST 1) an excellent tactical setup.

Trainer Notes and Insights

Timothy Kreiser saddles horses in Race 4 with Neptune Beach (POST 4), Race 5 with Paynted Warrior (POST 3), and Race 7 with Secret Oaks (POST 6). Kreiser is one of the more active trainers at Penn National and consistently wins at a rate above 15 percent at this track. Three live mounts in a seven-race card reflects a busy and well-organized barn, and Paynted Warrior (POST 3) at 4-1 in the feature Race 5 optional claimer is his most significant opportunity of the evening.

David Jacobson controls two spots in Race 5 with Track Phantom (POST 4) and Show Time (POST 5), both at 2-1. When a trainer has two horses in the same optional claimer, the jockey assignments usually telegraph the trainer's preference. Torres on Track Phantom (POST 4) gives that horse the slight edge in the trainer's assessment, but Jacobson winning with either entry represents a productive evening.

Bruce Kravets saddled two in Race 3 with Midnight Onyx (POST 2) and Bold Ambition (POST 5), plus Little Snuff (POST 3) in Race 1. The Kravets barn is one of the more volume-oriented operations at Penn National, and when Kravets doubles up in a single race as in Race 3, the public is usually left to determine which horse has the better chance. Bold Ambition (POST 5) at 5-1 with the slightly better morning line odds of the two Race 3 entries is the preferred Kravets selection.

Thomas Houghton sends out Stay Tuned (POST 2) and My Distant Drums (POST 4) in Race 1, plus Letspumpthebrakes (POST 2) in Race 6. Like Kravets, Houghton's split entry in Race 1 complicates the win analysis and is best approached as a trifecta piece rather than a win single. Letspumpthebrakes (POST 2) in Race 6 at 5-1 is Houghton's best value opportunity of the evening.

David Geist runs Lucky In Life (POST 5) in Race 1 and Winning Play (POST 5) in Race 7. Geist is a steady Penn National presence, and the Race 7 entry Winning Play (POST 5) at 5-1 in the optional claimer is the more compelling of the two assignments from a class and pace perspective.

Brandon Kulp appears in Race 3 with Arrow Speed (POST 6) and Race 4 with Duck Duck Goose (POST 2). The Kulp-Rodriguez combination on both horses makes these two entries among the more confident jockey-trainer alignments of the evening. Arrow Speed (POST 6) at 2-1 in Race 3 may compress win value, but the exacta structures built around this horse provide solid return potential.

Best Wagering Strategies and Value Plays

The best value play on the card is Hall Of Jazz (POST 3) at 4-1 in Race 6. The optional claimer field is not a deep one and Hall Of Jazz (POST 3) from Post 3 in a six-horse route with Stites training and Leonardo Corujo riding is a legitimate contender at a price that exceeds the 2-1 morning line of Lino's Fire (POST 4). A win bet on Hall Of Jazz (POST 3) combined with Lino's Fire (POST 4) in the exacta both ways provides coverage and return potential.

The second-best value on the card is Holy Fit (POST 3) at 4-1 in Race 7 against the 2-1 morning line favorite Banco Di Sicilia (POST 1). Torres is a premier jockey assignment and Salvaggio placing a horse in an optional claimer at this price suggests genuine competitive intent.

For exotic wagering, the Pick 4 from Race 4 through Race 7 is the recommended sequence. In Race 4, single Bernie Goes Boom (POST 1). In Race 5, use both Track Phantom (POST 4) and Show Time (POST 5). In Race 6, use Lino's Fire (POST 4) and Hall Of Jazz (POST 3). In Race 7, use Banco Di Sicilia (POST 1) and Holy Fit (POST 3). This structure produces a two-by-two-by-two ticket with Bernie Goes Boom (POST 1) as the single, and a $2 base ticket costs $16 for the combination coverage.

For the early Pick 4 covering Races 1 through 4, single Supremely Wicked (POST 3) in Race 2, use Arrow Speed (POST 6) and Morning Thoughts (POST 3) in Race 3, and single Bernie Goes Boom (POST 1) in Race 4. Add multiple coverage in Race 1 using Rosie's Rascal (POST 6), Little Snuff (POST 3), and Te Amo Sergio (POST 1). This structure at a $1 base produces a $12 ticket with three singles and one spreaded leg.

The best straight exacta play of the night is Race 4: Bernie Goes Boom (POST 1) over Duck Duck Goose (POST 2). Two co-favorites at 2-1 in a five-horse field means the exacta of the two chalk horses will likely return in the $6 to $9 range, which is modest but appropriate for a near-even money situation in a short field. Adding Atomico (POST 3) in a trifecta underneath provides reasonable upside if the two co-favorites hold their positions.

For superfecta action in Race 7, a 4-horse box of Banco Di Sicilia (POST 1), Holy Fit (POST 3), Winning Play (POST 5), and Secret Oaks (POST 6) at a $0.10 base costs $2.40 and captures the most logical combination of morning-line-supported horses in the closing optional claimer. Given the seven-horse field and the wide spread of prices, a superfecta in Race 7 could return meaningful money if the 6-1 Secret Oaks (POST 6) finishes fourth.

The overall approach for this Penn National card is to attack the optional claimers in Races 5, 6, and 7 with win bets on value plays and structure the claiming races in Races 2, 3, and 4 as exacta and trifecta investments rather than straight win bets, given the compressed morning line odds on the top choices. Race 1 with the seven-horse maiden field is best played exotically through the Pick 4 rather than as a standalone race.
