Colonial Downs – Thursday, July 2, 2026 | First Post 10:45 AM ET

Heat wave has pushed first post to 10:45 AM ET. Turf playing firm to good, favoring European-style pedigrees. Dirt neutral with speed holding. Outside posts carry a mild disadvantage in turf routes; inside posts preferred in turf sprints. Lopez and Loveberry dominate the jockey colony and their mounts deserve automatic upgrades throughout the card.

Race 1 — 10:45 AM | 6.5f Dirt | Claiming

Turkish Breeze (3) gets the nod on the strength of Lopez in the irons and a solid trainer in a short five-horse field. Over My Cents (4) and Finance Finance (5) are the co-favorites and must be included in all exotics. Thousand Story's (2) at 5-1 is the only longshot but offers little compelling reason to single out in a field this small.

Race 2 — 11:13 AM | 6f Turf | Optional Claiming

One Timer (1) is well-drawn on the inside in a turf sprint with Loveberry up and figures to control the pace. Warheart (5) at 3-1 is the prime value threat if the two favorites duel early, while Bushido (4) must be included as the other co-favorite. Biz Biz Buzz (6) at 4-1 is a viable fourth exotics inclusion from the outside.

Race 3 — 11:41 AM | 1m Turf | Maiden Special Weight

Emerald Spun (4) is the deserving even-money favorite from a barn that excels in this exact condition. Panama Canal (6) at 4-1 is the top secondary threat from a trainer with an unmatched turf debut record and represents genuine exotic value. Kimmy Got Glasses (5) at 6-1 is the recommended trifecta fill; the two 30-1 shots are experience runners only.

Race 4 — 12:09 PM | 5.5f Turf | Maiden Claiming (14 horses)

Second City Saint (10) is the 2-1 favorite in a chaotic 14-horse field and remains the logical top choice. Hurricane Lynn (3) at 4-1 and Snowboarder (2) at 8-1 are the best value plays based on favorable inside draws in a crowded field. Avoid heavy win investment here; spread wide in exotics with Forty Seven Smoker (13) as a fourth inclusion.

Race 5 — 12:37 PM | 6f Dirt | Maiden Special Weight

Charlie's Clock (4) at 2-1 is the top choice based on a premier sprint barn's exceptional maiden debut record. Bearamour (3) and Full Tank (6) are both legitimate pace threats at 3-1 and belong in all exotics. Freedom Hall (2) at 5-1 is the best value play; note that Hope Your Happy (8) at 8-1 is the second entry from the same barn and could be the sleeper if connections prefer that runner.

Race 6 — 1:05 PM | 6f Turf | Claiming

Pajaro (3) is the clear class of the field from a prime inside draw and is the straightforward win play. Sinetic (6) at 3-1 with Lopez aboard is the best exacta partner, and Seasonal Love (7) at 4-1 rounds out the trifecta. Rennie (1) at 15-1 from the rail is worth a token longshot inclusion given the post position advantage.

Race 7 — 1:33 PM | 1m Turf | Allowance — DRF Best Bet Race

Screen Test (5) at 5-1 is the top selection, supported by one of the best trainer-surface combinations on the card in this exact condition. Mia Familia (1) at 4-1 is the morning line favorite with an elite jockey and the coveted rail post in a 12-horse field. Horsing Around (11) at 6-1 is the best pure value play on the entire card; Getting Serious (6) at 10-1 from a Hall of Fame barn is the day's top longshot play and worth a small win wager.

Race 8 — 2:01 PM | 1m⅛ Turf | Claiming

Justifiable Steel (4) gets the edge over co-favorite Reading Time (7) based on the superior inside draw with Loveberry up. Queen Rocket (9) at 4-1 is the logical third choice if the favorites set each other up. Boys Go To Jupiter (1) at 10-1 from the rail is the day's best route longshot and deserves trifecta inclusion alongside the two co-favorites.
