Ellis Park Handicapper Report — August 21, 2026

Fast main track favoring early speed; turf course playing firm with a clear inside-rail advantage. Humidity and heat typical for mid-August Ohio Valley, no weather disruptions expected. Pace and post position are the dominant factors shaping today's card.

Race 1

Danzig's Dora (2) offers the best value at 4-1 to upset Heartbeat (6), who controls the pace but is thin at even money in a claiming race. Menkaure (1) and Final Shipman (7) are viable trifecta fillers; Carol's Melody (4) is worth a look only if Danzig's Dora (2) scratches.

Race 2

Elewene (11) is the top choice at 2-1 as a closers-friendly pace scenario develops in a full 13-horse mile. Unbridled Freedom (8) and Breadcrumb Trail (7) are the primary threats; Tipoff (4) and Junction (1) round out exotic coverage with Cairo Charlie (3), Honor And Courage (5), and Gimmeatreat (6) safely eliminated.

Race 3

Quality Mischief (5) is the standout at 2-1 in a spot where the Into Mischief pedigree and barn class project to be well above the claiming tag. Good Mojo (8) and Dr. Park (6) are legitimate rivals at 4-1; Feral (4) at 8-1 deserves a marginal exotic look, while Winery (7) can be cut.

Race 4

Differential (5) at 6-1 is the primary value play — a Cox-Geroux combination in a maiden special weight route represents a meaningful overlay over the morning line. Our Forefathers (6) and Flick (10) are the most dangerous rivals; Liberty Valance (1) and Find No Fault (3) fill third in trifectas, with Unconnected (9) eliminated entirely.

Race 5

Modern Sound (7) is the top selection on class and jockey alignment, but Kittens Stormy Gal (4) at 8-1 with an elite rider aboard is the best value on the turf card and warrants a straight win bet. Storm Cloud Rising (5) rounds out the exacta box; Asteria (11) is speculative at 8-1 from the wide outside post.

Race 6

Ezum (5) at 3-1 is the betting choice over morning-line favorite Tre Italiani (2) in a deep NW2L allowance where the Cox barn's preparation tends to show at the top of the stretch. Penalty Box (1) and Pimlott (4) are the most credible threats at 4-1; Vintage Cowboy (7) and Admiral Hall (6) can be used only as superfecta filler.

Race 7

The Dover Specter (1) from the rail is an ideal single in a Pick 3 or Pick 4 on a turf course explicitly favoring inside posts in larger fields. Gene And Jude (2) is the primary rival and merits exacta coverage; Michael's Cove (4) adds a third legitimate option, while Equilibrium (10) and Utopian (9) are the live longshots for deeper trifecta positions.

Race 8

Highgrove (5) at 1-1 is the dominant choice but should be used in exotics rather than straight win wagering. Moonlight Dash (7) at 4-1 is the most attractive alternative and the better upset single; My Sweetheart (6) and Kenz (8) at 12-1 are the trifecta fillers of note.

Race 9

Jokester (2) at 5-1 is the top selection in a 16-horse maiden sprint where a patient, ready-to-fire barn profile stands out. Roosevelt (13) at 6-1 is the preferred Cox entry for exotic use, with Staunch (3) and National Forest (12) rounding out the core superfecta group; Borax (4), Shelton (7), Bardstown (6), and Clear For Takeoff (8) provide deeper coverage, and Ritornello (14) is a speculative superfecta inclusion given the elite jockey assignment at 30-1.
