Track Surface & Bias

Assiniboia Downs' dirt (D) surface is expected to play fast and generally fair with a slight speed bias, consistent with typical mid-summer evening conditions in Winnipeg when the track is dry and well-packed. On such days, front-runners and pace-pressers from inside to middle posts usually hold an edge, as the tight turns and firm surface allow early speed to carry effectively around the oval. Closers can still be competitive, but they tend to need an honest or pressured early pace and clear outside lanes; the rail and just-off-the-rail paths are historically the most efficient when the track is firm and not rain-compromised.

Handicapper’s Edge
