Pick Pony Track Condition Report — Belterra Park, May 27, 2026

Track Surface & Bias

Dirt at Belterra Park in late May typically plays fair to mildly speed-favoring, especially in the afternoon when the surface tightens and temperatures trend into the low 80s. Inside-to-middle posts (1–6) on the main track generally hold a slight edge, with forwardly placed runners and pace-pressers faring best, while deep closers need an honest or contested pace to get involved. The turf course, when firm, often rewards stalkers and mid-pack runners who can save some ground early and tip out in the lane, while wide-sweeping moves around both turns can be at a disadvantage compared to those launching from the two- to four-path turning for home.

Handicapper’s Edge

Given the expected profile, give extra credit on the dirt to horses with proven early speed or tactical pace drawn toward the inside or middle, particularly in sprints where lone-speed types can prove hard to reel in. On the turf, prioritize runners with a consistent stalking style and efficient tactical speed over deep closers or need-the-lead types, and be cautious about horses that repeatedly make wide, grinding bids without finishing the job.
