Pick Pony Track Condition Report — Churchill Downs, November 6, 2026
Track Surface & Bias
With dirt and turf races scheduled, Churchill Downs should offer a modest inside-position advantage on the main track, especially in sprints, where posts 1–5 can help runners secure position before the turn. Recent meet data also showed strong results for posts 1–3 in dirt sprints and routes, while stalkers and closers had performed well in the larger sprint sample. On turf, outside posts have been competitive in sprints, but tactical runners able to secure an efficient trip several paths off the rail may hold an edge.
Handicapper’s Edge
Prioritize dirt horses with tactical speed, particularly those drawn inside and capable of stalking without needing the lead. On turf, avoid overcommitting to pure front-runners; favor runners with adaptable positioning and proven ability to finish through traffic. Monitor any early maintenance or weather-related changes, as they could quickly alter the apparent bias.
