Pick Pony Track Condition Report — Colonial Downs, June 27, 2026

Track Surface & Bias

Colonial Downs features a 1¼-mile dirt oval (D) and the expansive Secretariat Turf Course (T), both typically maintained to a fair, fast configuration early in the meet. The dirt surface historically plays kind to tactical speed: forwardly placed runners and pace-pressing stalkers from the middle posts tend to have an edge, while deep closers usually need an above-average pace to get involved. On the turf, the long stretch and wide turns favor stalkers and mid-pack runners with a sustained run, and outside/mid posts are often more comfortable than the tight inside draws, especially in larger fields.

Handicapper’s Edge

On dirt, give extra credit to horses with early or tactical speed who have shown the ability to finish, particularly those breaking from middle gates rather than the far outside. On turf, lean toward stalking and mid-pack types with proven late kick and form over firm ground, and be cautious about short-priced front-runners who may face pressure in the long Colonial stretch.
